"Otra botella, amigo?", me preguntó.

Second Chances - CH. 8
Description: Agathrio AU / Wagatha - Ralph, Jen and Alice bug Agatha into texting Rio about going on a date.
Warnings: None
Wordcount: 2,300
Notes: I am leaving town next week so I'm not sure how much I'm going to be able to write. I'm hoping to get a few more chapters out before I go.

Chapter 8 - Dinner with Friends
Agatha, not being one to admit when she was wrong, did her best to avoid Ralph as the day unfolded. The feeling must have been somewhat mutual as it appeared Ralph was doing his best to avoid Agatha’s attention anytime they were in the same room. This didn’t last long though as Jen sent them both a text around dinner time.
So which one of you was going to tell me you were back in town, Ralph!? And, Agatha, Alice reminded me you still owe us dinner for helping out at the fundraiser.
“Whose Alice?” Ralph asked as he made his way into the living room.
“Oh, right, I guess you haven’t been here since that started. Jen has a new girlfriend.”
“Oh boy, is this another Madison situation?”
“No, I think you might actually like Alice. She seems good for Jen.”
“Oh, well, good for Jen then. Look, Agatha, about last night.”
“Don’t worry about it, I'm over it.”
“Really though, I’m sorry for bringing your mother into it, that was too much.”
“Like I said, don't worry about it.” She said with a forced grin.
“Ok, fine, I’ll drop it. Just know that I really do care about you. I just want you to be happy.”
“That doesn’t sound like dropping it.” He gestured to zip his lips and throw away an imaginary key.
“So, you buying dinner for me too or just Jen and Alice?”
“Don’t push it and I just might, if you’re lucky.”
“Maybe if you see what I got you in Greece you might be persuaded?”
“Perhaps, show me to me.” He rushed off to the guest room, returning quickly with a gift bag and a wrapped gift.
“Here, start with the bag.” She first pulled out a bottle of olive oil followed by a bag of greek coffee.
“Oooo, alright this is a good start.” She held out her hand anticipating the wrapped item.
“This I found on Lesbos island and immediately thought of you. I mean, it’s lesbian island, how could I not?” Agatha snorted and rolled her eyes as she opened the package. She pulled out a navy robe adorned with leaves, flowers, purple butterflies, and snakes winding themselves throughout the foliage.
“Ok, now this might get you dinner!”
“It better, it was not cheap! But worth it, considering I did miss your function.” She flashed Ralph a cheeky smile. “So you like it?”
“Yes, I like it very much. So, when do you want to do dinner with Jen?”
“Let’s see if she’s free tomorrow.”
Hey Bitch! Yes I’m back. Agatha’s buying dinner tomorrow if you’re in? - RB
Hell yeah! Alice says that works for her too. So Agatha, where are you taking us? - JK
Anywhere Alice wants. - AH
Alice says she’s thinking mexican. Mazunte work for everybody? - JK
I can swing that but you’re buying your own drinks. - AH
Seriously?! You’re gonna be that cheap? - JK
With the way you and Ralph drink, yes. Alice, I may make an exception for. - AH
Fine, we’ll see you at 7? - JK
Works for us. - RB
As they arrived at dinner the next night Agatha was already regretting agreeing to Mexican food. It was just her luck that once again her stomach felt like it was doing backflips.
“You sure you’re good?” Ralph asked her as they got out of the car
“I’m fine, I’ll just have to take it easy tonight. Ugh, I am so sick of feeling like this like every other day.”
“Well if you didn’t eat shit like those kool aid pickles you probably wouldn’t feel like shit. Here, have a mint, maybe that’ll help.”
“Ugh, that was one time!” She glared at him as she took three mints and shoved them into her mouth. Ralph held the door open as she stormed in. They were greeted by a beaming Jen beckoning them over. Alice was sat in the corner and gave them a small wave and a smile.
“Oh my gosh hey girl! Long time no see!” Ralph said as he rushed over to hug Jen. “Oh shit, Alice? This Alice is your Alice? Well damn so good to see you too.”
“Oh right, I guess you two know each other.” Agatha grumbled.
“Uh, yeah, I’ve only been doing drag on and off at her bar for the last, what’s it been 10 years? Ok, this makes sense. How did you meet Jen?”
“I guess it was the last time you performed actually. I met her that night and we just kind of hit it off.” Alice said, beaming at Jen.
“Wait, wasn’t that when we were there for your birthday?” He turned to Agatha who was guzzling water. She shrugged, “Yeah, I guess so”
“Yeah if you two hadn’t left early that night I might have never met her so thanks I guess.” Jen explained.
“Left early?” He turned back to Agatha who was giving him a death glare. “Oh, right yeah. You’re welcome.” Jen glanced between them both with a questioning look. Pushing past her curiosity she turned her attention back to Ralph.
“So how was Greece?”
“Oh gosh it was amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever eaten as much food as I did there. Everything was so delicious! That reminds me, I have something for you back at Agatha’s. Sorry Alice, no one mentioned you,” he glared at Jen and Agatha “otherwise I would have brought you something too.”
“Oh don’t mention it! I’m just glad to see you!”
“Wow, I wish I could get that reaction out of these two.”
“Hey! I was happy to see you!” Jen proclaimed. They all looked at Agatha.
“I didn’t know you were coming! You just showed up at my house!” She protested, “You should be grateful I let you through the door.”
“Why? It’s not like I was interrupting anything important.” He quipped, giving her a cheeky smile. She drew back in mock offense.
“You disrupted my perfectly quiet evening at home.”
“Isn’t that every evening for you, Agatha?” Jen chuckled. Agatha shot Jen a mocking sneer.
“That’s what I told her, she’s due for a little excitement.” He winked at Agatha and nudged her.
“Yeah, when's the last time you even went out?” Jen joked.
“I’m out right now aren’t I?”
“I mean without us, and not for some work thing.” Agatha bit her tongue, avoiding Jen’s stare. “Yeah, that’s what I thought. If you got laid it might do you some good.” Ralph choked on his drink as he started laughing mid sip. Agatha looked at her unamused.
“That’s what I tried to tell her!” He roared. He gave Jen a high five.
“Oh and here I thought I was being nice taking you all out to dinner. I didn’t realize it was so you two could gang up on me about my sex life. This is the last time I do anything nice for you people. At least Alice has the decency to mind her business.” They sat there silently for a moment before Alice spoke up.
“It’s always hard to get back out there when you’ve lost someone.” Alice chimed in, drawing all attention to herself. “But it’s good to push yourself to try new things when you’re ready.”
“Ugh, I forgot you’re like a walking DSM.” Agatha grimaced.
“Does Jen know about Dr. Vidal?” Ralph posed. If Agatha could have strangled him with her eyes he would have died right then and there.
“Agatha?! Do you have something to share with the class?” Jen said smugly. Agatha, in protest, shoved a handful of chips into her mouth before leaning back in her chair, crossing her arms and looking away from the table. Jen and Alice looked back at Ralph who was grinning like the cat who ate the canary, bursting at the seams with excitement, ready to spill the tea.
“Someone got hit on by a doctor and has been keeping her number on her fridge.”
“STOP! NO! When did this happen?” Jen exclaimed
“At the fundraiser, right Agatha?” Finally having choked down the chips, she resigned herself to the fact that they would not be changing the subject until she gave them the answers they were looking for.
“That was technically when I met her, yes.”
“What do you mean technically?” Jen and Ralph asked in unison
“We may, or may not have, run into each other before.”
“You didn’t tell me that!” Ralph admonished her, “When did you meet her before?”
“I met her at the fundraiser. I ran into her before, a few times actually.”
“Wait, what do you mean, ran into her?” Jen questioned
“I physically ran into her. Or, she ran into me. Not sure exactly.” Agatha was starting to enjoy being withholding.
“Well?” Ralph asked
“Well what?” Agatha snapped
“Oh don’t be like that, come on, give us details!”
“I know virtually nothing about the woman, other than her name and the fact that she works at the children's hospital under Dr. Jones on my board.”
“My children’s hospital? What does she practice?”
“I think I’ve said enough.”
“She’s a surgeon apparently” Ralph answered for her
“OOO was it that woman in the green suit?” Alice added helpfully
“Can’t I have anything for myself with you people?” Agatha bit back.
“AH! It was, wasn’t it! I knew it!” Jen and Ralph turned their attention to Alice. “I would have kept her number too… if I was Agatha” She added, seeing Jen’s twinge of concern.
“Have you texted her?” Jen asked. Agatha had returned to her silent stewing.
“I never did get a clear answer about that” Ralph added, “So?”
“No.” She muttered as she took another drink of her water.
“What’s stopping you?” Alice asked
“I’m not looking for a therapy session, thank you Alice.” She sighed, “Nothing, I just… haven’t felt like dealing with it. I have a lot going on right now.”
“When don’t you have a lot going on?” Jen asked incredulously
“She’s got a point” Ralph added
“Will you drop it if I agree to text her later?”
“Text her now.” Ralph countered
“Well I don’t have her number in my phone yet.” she said condescendingly
“That’s fine I have the card on me, just in case. I didn’t want to risk you trying to throw it away again.”
“Well that’s…convenient” she chided. They all sat there in silence, waiting for her to pick up the card. “Well, what would I even say?”
“What did she say when she gave you the card?” Jen asked. Agatha bit her tongue again as a blush grew across her face. She was going to make Ralph suffer for bringing this up in front of Jen.
“She said to reach out…when I was…readytoseewherefatetakesus” she trailed off.
“What?” They all leaned in. Agatha let out a groan.
“She said to reach out when I was ready to see where fate takes us.” Agatha wanted to slap the look of delight from each one of their faces.
“Agatha!” Ralph shouted
“And you haven’t texted her yet?” Jen scolded her
‘Ok, ok, let me get this straight. You’ve physically run into this woman on more than one occasion. She is very attractive, from what Alice says,” he nodded in her direction.
“Oh yes, very attractive.” Ralph emphasized his gesture to Alice with a whine.
“Very attractive, she’s a surgeon who is interested in you enough after these run ins that she gave you her number to reach out when you’re ready to see where fate takes you. How are you not in her bed right now?”
“I’ve had a lot going on!!” she emphasized. They each groaned and rolled their eyes. “Again, I ask, what am I supposed to be texting her?”
“Honestly give me your phone, I’m afraid if you do it you’ll screw it up somehow.” Jen reached her hand out as Agatha drew it closer to herself.
“What if I don’t like what you want to send?”
“I’ll let you read it first!”
“Fine.” She handed the phone over.
Hello Dr. Vidal, It’s Agatha Harkness. I thought about what you said the other night and I think I’d like to take you up on your offer to see where fate takes us. When would you like to grab a coffee?
“See, I’m not locking you into anything, just in case she is a freak. You never know with surgeons.”
“That can be fun though too, as long as you match each other’s freak.” Ralph added with a wink.
“Ugh, that could be dangerous for everyone involved.” Jen grimaced
“Sent, ok! Can we drop it now?” She slammed her phone back on the table.
“Sure… until she texts you back.” Jen said with a grin.
Luckily for Agatha they made it through the rest of their dinner without a word from Dr. Vidal. In fact she managed to make it all the way home and settle into bed with her book before she heard her phone buzz. At first she convinced herself it had to be a spam text and chose to ignore it. Then it buzzed again and curiosity overtook her. She reached over grabbing her phone off the nightstand. Her heart skipped a beat as she saw the notification.
Dr. Vidal - Message(2)
As she stared at it contemplating opening the messages, her phone buzzed again
Dr. Vidal - Message(3)
Her heart pounded faster and she bit her lip as she unlocked her phone.
Hey Beautiful!
What a wonderful surprise to hear from you at last! I thought my luck might have run out. 😏
I’d love to take you out for coffee sometime. Any chance you’re free Saturday?
She checked the time, nearly midnight. She read and re-read the texts a few times, contemplating. She started and deleted a few texts debating on whether or not it looked desperate to reply right away. As she drafted another text another message came through.
Come on, I’ll make it worth your while! 😎
Agatha could feel her heart beating faster in her chest. There was no hiding at this point so she resigned herself to respond.
Yes, Saturday. 10:00 Espresso Emporium.
She threw her phone back on the nightstand, attempting to push the thought of this now impending date out of her mind. BUZZ BUZZ, another text.
Yes Ma'am 🫡. See you then gorgeous!
