I hate hate hate how all newspapers talk about the unpredictable storm that happened in valencia. It was not unpredictable. Meteorologists had been warning about it for a week. 12 hours before it happened they issued a red alert.

It was not unpredictable. It was the politician's fault that it caught people unaware: even having all the information they decided not no warn anyone until the catastrophe was already happening

The storm in valencia this week was many things, but unpredictable is not one of them unless knowing a week in advance can be considered unpredictable

why a good head of state is important

the prez (in spain the leader of the executive, the gov't, more like a prime minister) left or didn't get out of the car in some towns, king felipe stayed and faced the people against security's advice.

ppl are angry at everything including media and the regional gov't. but they still know what they are like. it's so blatant even spanish left-wing media (LaSexta) has to portray their characters and the prez is an awful narcissist. this happens every single time they appear together. on top of things like protocol breaches to diss the king.

in moments like this i'm not mad there is a ceremonial monarch, well more like that it's currently this man, cos our prez is a spineless opportunist and the king has been an actual leader. he's a person at the end of the day, in a role, a constitutional monarchy is basically a republican form of government w/ diff offices, and he tries.

the regional president of valencia is also SO incompetent rn, withholding aid so he's not got to "ask for the help" of someone from another party and the national prez going like "well you gotta ask!" and meanwhile people are rotting. fuck both from the two major parties. some pictures coming out:

How is the flood relief situation? It seems like the media dropped it really quick, is the government at least being less terrible abt it now or...?

Flood relief is alright, the goverment did offer help. the army is still deployed in affected areas, as are other emergency services. A lot of the roads and affected transport infrastructure has been fixed or otherwise rebuilt. There's still a LOT of work to do though, people are still cleaning mud out of their homes, there are a lot of bridges to reinstate, and a lot of people still need food and water but so far things seem to be going better!

Our province president has washed his hands of the whole ordeal though and frankly it's just deeply exhausting to be Aware Of Him and what he says all the time so I haven't really looked more into it, but last I checked every single politician involved was playing hot potato with the blame and also there was climate change denial in the mix to boot 💀.

However, I can show you this video of the incompetent scumbag where he's at an important meeting and is too preoccupied slapping a fly away looking like Mr. Bean than paying attention:
