[OLD] These are the Fakemon designs I submitted to Subjectively's Mazah Region! My submission didn't end up winning, but I was really happy to participate in the contest regardless.
I've had the idea for Gruband, Pupatone and Wahvil for a long time now, and I'm planning to make my own Fakemon region eventually, so I'll probably redesign these at some point.

Recreated a scene from the Book of Life with the Mazah mons. Here we have Mega Roserade (made by me!) and Mega Spectrazal (made by FedeRex). These were some of the winners of the mega contest for Subjectively's region and I was glad I got to be a part of it 💖💖💖

Old Mazah region contest submission, Desperena.
Desperena (Desperado + Rena)
My old submission to Subjectively's Mazah region contest, based on the texan blind snake, bandits, vaqueros and phantom thieves. It was meant to be a raider of a nest of ant Pokemon within the region. Looking back, I'd probably give it the Infiltrator instead of Sand Stream as it's more befitting of a thief (Sheer Force works fine). It's stats would also need to be tweeked but I'd like to keep it offensive since the other 2 Ghost/Ground types are rather defensive. Like many irl blind snakes, Desperena is entirely female!

I made a Farigiraf mega evolution for the mazah region. It's based off of Alebrijes, sense Farigiraf and Girafraig or odd chimera looking pokemon I figured it made sense. I even played up the chimera bit with replacing its normal type with dragon. It's bizarre, colorful and wild looking and I love that because it captures the idea of what Alebrijes are like, colorful and bizarre creatures.
Mega Farigiraf
The Long Neck Pokémon
This pokemon is believed to be able to communicate with the dead with its large intenas. Due to this pokemon's kind nature, people believe it helps them find their way in life via looking into the past, present, and future. Due to the pokemon being known as a caring guide, it's considered a sign of luck when a Mega Farigiraf appears.

This was the final line I made before Subjectively’s Mazah region contest ended. This was hands down my favorite batch of drawings. I’d had this idea since I’d finished my Mazian Lucario but I held off on doing it until the end. I considered making a Zangoose line to go with them but the contest would only choose one Pokemon/Pokemon line per person if that person were to win. A regular Zangoose would fit their story about humans introducing mongoose into foreign environments just fine. This is a split evolution line where Seviper can evolve into Cleavillain or Asparition depending on how a battle ends.
Seviper (Mazian Form) The lack of Zangoose has allowed these Pokemon to heal their scars and settle down. They lack the aggressive disposition their Hoenn variant is known for, but they make up for that with their cunning and habit of holding grudges. These Pokemon are generally found living in loose family groups deep in the forests of the Mazah region. They use their tails to slash and poison enemies and prey alike. It is said that if you come across any rocks with deep divuts slashed into them, you have entered Seviper territory and need to leave immediately. Unfortunately, due to an incident ending with the release of an unknown amount of Zangoose, this territory is beginning to spread further out and uncomfortably close to civilization.
Asparition It is unknown when the first Asparition appeared, but it is understood now that they are the result of vengeful Seviper reviving after being struck down by the invasive Zangoose of the region. These Pokemon are merciless towards Zangoose, making it their mission to take out as many of them as they can. Despite their vengeful desires, Asparition still stick to the outskirts of their family groups. They view themselves as unworthy of rejoining them after losing their lives to the Zangoose they should’ve been able to counter, but they make up for it by devoting their afterlives to preventing another Asparition from being made. Humans are also targets for Asparition’s ire due to their involvement in the Zangoose invasion and it is advised that trainers should avoid these Pokemon at all costs.
Cleavillain Cleavillain are the leaders of their family groups. They lead with an iron fist and a lack of mercy, but they still put the care of their subordinates over their own. These Pokemon stay deep within their territory, leaving the management of it to the Sevipers and only revealing themselves to help fight off powerful enemies. They use their bladed tails as both shields and poison-dealing cleavers, commonly baiting offending Pokemon into striking first so they can slash them whilst batting them away. Their speed is unrivaled, and they don’t let their prey or enemies get away once they’ve laid their eyes on them. They can be quite vain however as they hold their appearance in high regard and take great offense to their scales or crown being dirtied.
The appearance for Mazian Seviper was changed to resemble a fer-de-lance, the most venomous snake in Central America.
Mazian Seviper can become either Cleavillain or Asparition depending on how some battles end. Seviper becomes Cleavillain after reaching a certain level, but Seviper will become an Asparition after being defeated by a Zangoose regardless of its level.
Cleavillain (cleaver+villain) wasn’t really based off any snake, but they have a theme regarding royalty because I wanted Seviper’s gold markings to actually mean something. Their cloak is meant to work like a cobra’s hood, flaring up and out as a form of intimidation when in battle.
Asparition (asp+apparition) isn’t based off any snake like Seviper or Cleavillain. Instead, Asparition is based on Seviper and Cleavillain themselves. It is essentially a botched evolution into Cleavillain triggered by Seviper dying during a high stress situation. Instead of becoming something looked up to in their community, they become a malformed version of it. The cloak-hood becomes tattered, the gemstones that did manage to form are dull, and the crown they were supposed to gain is twisted and broken. Most importantly though is the loss of the signature tail their line is meant to have. That doesn’t stop them from forming something using the ghostly energy coming from what’s left of their tail.
Asparition’s design was one I fought with for a while because I wanted to show that this was a spirit piloting a body. The drawing in red was the first one that clicked for me, and I ended up coming back to it in the end. The idea behind this sketch was that the spirit was so detatched from its body that it would be forced to drag itself along using ghostly arms opposed to a smooth slither. It would’ve pushed the fact that this form was a disgrace and something unnatural. I ended up toning it down while keeping the tattered hood, the scarring, and the ghostly tail. I also kept the posing.
#pokemon#Fakemon#mazah region#subjectively#Mega Mazah Lucario was one of my favorite drawings but this whole Seviper line is hands down one of the best things to come from this imo#Love the shading in this because it feels like I finally got it right#I'll be bringing my other designs over to this account from my art one because I really want to show them off lmao#art of mine

I've been playing 2 pokemon fan game demos recently
First off, Project Untamed, probably more well known as the Mazah Region fan game being made based on Subjectively's fakemon region project
The demo isn't long and only goes 1 gym deep so far, but this is definitely a fan game to watch out for. The fakemon all have this unique charm but unifying style that make them stand out, and the overall quality is pretty great. It's based on Central America, and overall have a Tradition vs Change motif. My time was fun, however brief it was. Mechanically speaking too, this is one of the few fakemon fan games I've played with an actual speed up button- something I desperately wish normal pokemon games had, and I definitely appreciate it. Artistically speaking the game is gorgeous to look at, and I admire the respect towards the culture and actually allowing it to... well, exist unsullied. A lot of pokemon games have this issue where they put regions in unique locations but skimp on the unique culture of the area in favor of a more generic map- which I would get why in some cases, but not others. Mazah shows it off respectfully, even the first gym being a ghost gym with inspiration from Day of the Dead (also I just want to say how funny and happy I was at the gym theme for that one). The characters are also endearing so far, and the game's humor is also on point, which I always appreciate.
Anyway keep an eye on this game. In a few years every poketuber will be hailing it as the best fan game of whatever year it comes out.
For my next game
I took a dip back into the Spanish side of the fan games to play a demo of Pokémon Armonia, which has a very decent English translation so far. I think 4 gyms are in, and I'm nearing the end of that.
Armonia's region is Safar, which I believe is based on Africa- at least the map sort of looks like the hook of the upper west side. The environments are beautiful and varied, and the art style is really high quality and filled with so much soul in each location and sprite. I find myself studying these Spanish games tbh, because there's always such a unique quality and extra care out into them, and I'm actually taking notes on the sprite style here as well. There's big photos done in pixel art as well that just... well, it looks great, as I've been gushing about for a while.
Remember how I said Spanish fan games have a unique quality to them? How's this for unique: the opening scene has VOICE ACTING. Yes, the world's richest franchise can't even add it to the spearhead of off their commercial operations for the next few years, but a fan game certainly can! I'm not sure if more is planned to be added in the future, but I hope so.
Anyway, that little aside put... well. Aside. I guess. The fakemon are fun and fantastic. I will say that it's rare to find fan games with fakemon in general, and of the 3 I've played from the Spanish side so far, they're still somewhat rare to see here. That's different in Armonia. The dex is still building, but so far, 4 gyms in, and I've seen mostly new designs rather than old- think something like Hoenn if that makes sense. Pretty much every single one has been a hit in some fashion or another and are fun to mess with. The regional variants are fun too, and I especially adore my Safaran Arcanine, which is Ground/Fairy.
I say this too, they do a very interesting take on introducing new evolution methods: in one particular side quest, they pull over and basically demonstrate the circumstances required to evolve a certain regional variant. Honestly, that is super refreshing from a story telling, mechanical, and time saving angle, and is something I really wish official Pokémon games would do instead of us having to wait for a data dump to reveal you have to take your guy to a particular spot under a particular tree at a certain phase of the moon while landing 3 crits in a row and singing The Macarena backwards. Like seriously, an NPC being like "hey, here's a rare candy, why not try evolving X here in this little spot?" Is not only immersive, it just makes more sense! It's simple, but brilliant! Honestly great job to the devs here.
As far as anything else mechanically speaking, the game also features a mobile PC like in Realidea System, and of all things, the selective multi exp share similar to the one from Opalo. I'm gonna guess that feature must be from a special build of Pokémon essentials or something. I really enjoy it and I think more fan games should make use of it.
So far, gyms and exploration are sort of straight shots, but I think that's okay given the story it wants to tell. And let me tell you, the story is looking interesting so far. I can't wait to see where it goes!
I'll probably make a team shot of the Fakémon I've used so far soonish. I'd definitely say check it out if you can- although I gotta say, hunting down the EN translation was ROUGH. It's a good translation, minus dex entries, but it is R O U G H finding it.
Good luck to both the Mazah and Safar teams! I can't wait to explore your fully made regions someday!
