The Aken/Hamada Collective--Christmas Bits #3

On the list of Christmas specials the Aken-Hamadas make a point to watch, White Christmas is always a priority because it’s Elaine’s favorite Christmas movie

The collective, during their knockabout years, did indeed go to Vermont one year to try to recreate the movie for funzies (also to get Obake out of Miami, he had done things again)

Elaine got the outfit they wear at the end when she was little and wore it until it fell apart, got a grown-up version of it that year

BH6 Snippets--2/12/2024

So after getting the sequel to (Not So) Hated by Life Itself, Ghost's Reign, and Ghost's Legacy all up to the next hundred, I'm going through my other fics to see if I got one close, ended up working on the main body of The Aken/Hamada Collective:

“Oh hi, Mr. Dibs!” Honey Lemon said, waving. “Hi Honey Lemon!  You hear that?  She calls me mister,” Dibs said to Uncle Bob. “I suppose it’s less insulting than what you’re usually called,” Uncle Bob said. “Hey.” “Hi, Uncle Dibs,” Tadashi said—mostly to be needling to Uncle Bob.  “What’s that you got there?” “That reminds me, you owe me twenty bucks,” Dibs told Uncle Bob.  “In the meantime: this is for you.” “Lovely,” Uncle Bob said, unwrapping the rectangular parcel to reveal what Tadashi had been dreading. “City Rises!” Honey Lemon gasped.  “It’s okay!  Where’d you find it?” “Uhhhh on a wall,” Dibs said.  “Definitely on a wall.” “On a wall in the museum,” Tadashi clarified, glowering at Uncle Bob.  “Did you seriously pay Uncle Dibs to steal that?” “Stealing it myself was beneath me,” Uncle Bob said. “Also he hasn’t paid me yet,” Dibs said. Uncle Bob rolled his eyes, dug in a pocket and handed Dibs a twenty.  “Here, use it in good health.  In the meantime.”  Swung the painting around and up with the clear intent to bring it down on the edge of the desk—Tadashi was already moving to intercept when Uncle Bob stopped at Dibs and Honey Lemon’s dismayed gasps. “Okay fine we’ll do it the pedantic way,” Uncle Bob groused, taking a screwdriver and cutting the back covering of the painting open.  “Honestly.”

I love how I got a lot more of the backstory for this fic written up as opposed to the actual fic itself, delving into the pre-'canon' lives of these guys is fun.

Also:

“Well I was going to do City Rises for my masters’ copy so maybe I can give you that one?” Honey Lemon offered. “Okay.  What’s a masters’ copy?” “It’s when you go to school to learn how to forge art,” Uncle Bob called back. “Oh—you don’t have to pay college prices, I know a guy,” Dibs assured her. "Know a guy who'll fence it for you too."

For clarification, my first college had the senior art majors doing "masters' copies," where they tried their best to imitate one of the masters' art pieces. My thought even as a freshman was so they're teaching us to do art forgeries???

BH6 Snippets - 2/17/2023

Got some work done on The Aken/Hamada Collective last night--have a bit where Obake and Hiro are discussing the whole decision to become superheroes:

“Well, it was nice being your uncle.”

“Wait what?” Hiro asked, blinking.  “Why would you say that?”

“Because your aunt made it very clear that if this persisted she would kill me.”

“Uhhh we can talk to her about it, right?  Convince her not to do that?”

Hmm, could they?  Debate….

Pull a chair over so he could sit in front of Hiro.

“Yes, we can,” he said.  “But it’s going to involve the prickly aspect of basically baby-proofing the city.”

“Huh?” Hiro noised, looking offended.

“Your aunt’s main concern is the chaos aspect of this whole ordeal, the unpredictability that could end in one of you dead in a gutter somewhere,” Obake explained, waving a hand.  “And I’m sure you’ve noticed a lack of purse-snatching and such to stop.”

“Yeah—Fred’s disappointed that there’s not monsters and giant robots to stop.”

“I can’t say anything to the former, but we could do something about the latter.”

Hiro blinked—perked up.  “Come again?”

Tap his knee.  “I’ll be nice and humor Tadashi—I’ll even play along.  You need an overarching supervillain to fight, do you not?  This way all parties win.”

“Except you.”

“Hardly—you two get to enjoy yourselves, and Tadashi and I finally have interactions we agree on.”  Seeing as how Tadashi viewed him as a villain anyway. “Cass is assured you’re safe, you all get something challenging to face, I get to test out designs…everyone wins.”

“Except for the part where it’s kinda fake.”

“Your video games are kind of fake, does that ever stop you?” But he did have a point in how Tadashi would handle this if he knew.  “But I agree—therefore it’s our little secret, is it not?”

Hiro grinned as this sunk in.  “Yeah!”

Shook his hand on it—maybe this would work out in his favor after all.

So long as Tadashi never found out.

Obake knows that Cass will murder him if something happens to the boys so he’s got some work to do to prep the city for a little superhero group.

Tadashi would probably introduce her to Juniper too like I feel like you two would vibe

Olivia and Fred gabbing about cute animal comics gives Juniper new reading material :D

Obake has limits

And now I’m thinking the Supersonics and High Voltage team up at one point and Tadashi is just like WHY???

Juniper and Stu are just like it seemed like a good idea and Barb and Sue are like oh honey you’re sweet but you don’t tell us what to do XD

IDK maybe???  We definitely need more info on the various characters and this feels like the perfect way to poke around with that XD

If SFIT survives Hiro and Rishi Granville will just declare it a job well done and take like a three-year vacation XD

Someone from the group offers to take a teaching position and her NO can be heard three counties over XD

Ey don’t feel bad toot your own horn! :D

Also mood about getting to a particular part you’re looking forward to in your fic

I mean you can always skip ahead and write it out but then there’s the whole waiting to get to where you can POST it that’s its whole special agony

I have felt that so many times and then staring at my inbox waiting for the screams X’D

Yes this AU is the Max Chaos AU and from my own experiences with group chats that just cranks the chaos up to 11 (but oh man writing group chat sections in fics is fuuuuun! :D)

The nerd gang refuses to play Among Us with the Aken-Hamadas anymore

Also the Halloween episode, since the general plot gets nixed:

Everyone always dresses up, Obake and Cass dress up as Loki and Thor, complete with helmets

Occasionally Obake will wear the Loki-jacket out of season he likes the vibes it gives him

It took Hiro until he was like seven to realize that Obake wasn’t really Loki

Tadashi still thinks so tho

Ever since Ragnarok Cass has insisted on doing “Get help” with Obake

Obake objects, mostly because he plays Loki then

He might be taller but his sisters have always been compact muscle yes Cass could totally yeet Obake if she wanted to

And the events of “Food Fight” come from Obake’s suggestions since he heard about this from Momakase

And because Cass won’t let him bump off Grammercy she has limits

He’s very proud of his sister’s knife collection :D

Her and Momakase’s fight goes off more good-natured than canon but still has the dirty fighting because just because we’re friends doesn’t mean I’m going easy on you

Cass, throwing the net at her at the end: the feeling’s mutual

They meet up later after Obake breaks her out of prison, Momakase takes pictures of the knife collection and shares it on Insta with a very truncated story on how it came to be

Someone on there comments with this has the same energy as that girl who stabbed the guy in the kitchen

Momakase: I am happy to inform you that it is in fact the same girl

Been thinking and….

AU where Cass and Obake are siblings

So just picture her raising her nephews with occasional chaotic input from their ‘weird uncle Bob’

Whom she doesn’t DARE let babysit anymore because 1) he never says no and 2) he also happily enables the chaos

And totally lets the boys play with the chainsaw

Forget the fact that she doesn’t know WHERE it came from, for some reason they have one now

Also Obake keeps letting Hiro go on ‘supervised visits’ to Good Luck Alley

And of all his ‘friends’ Felony Carl is honestly the only one she trusts to take care of kids despite being called ‘Felony’ Carl

Felony Carl is forever the mom friend no matter what situation I’m sorry I don’t make the rules

Basically Obake and Cass have the same sibling dynamic that Jon and Evvie do in The Mummy

“You lied to me!”

“So? I lie to everyone!”

“I’m your sister!”

“That just makes you more gullible!”

They take the mickey out of each other Cass never lets him forget about that time he blew up his college and Obake never lets her forget the time she stabbed a dude

“It was an ACCIDENT”

And yet they’re also ride-or-die and would totally help each other hide the body

The boys’ mom was the responsible one so basically it’s two feral gremlins trying to raise two feral gremlins

Hiro declares revenge on someone and Obake helps him brainstorm

Hiro graduates at thirteen and everyone in the school system is glad to see the back end of him AND his uncle

Tadashi graduated early too you don’t have a supergenius for a relative AND bad math grades

Hiro just graduated earlier because he vibes more with Obake

Obake and Cass are both aware of the family resemblance and have concerns

Cass more than Obake, Obake is more like Mushu on our little baby’s all grown up and destroying people

Tadashi is AGGRESSIVELY nice and responsible in an attempt to counterbalance his uncle

Who likes to say that SFIT wasn’t the same since he left

Cass: that’s what being reduced to rubble generally does, yes

Obake: do you MIND???

Yes she’s aware her brother is a supervillain but she’d like to keep the boys from knowing

So basically Tadashi and Hiro are like the youngest members of a crime syndicate without being aware of it

They secretly suspect

So do Tadashi’s friends

Wait what do you mean your weird uncle is a scary crime boss?

Also Cass has informed Obake that he has to give her at least twenty-four hours’ notice before he does anything catastrophic

Obake: define catastrophic

Cass: blowing up the city, reversing street signs, stealing people’s left shoes…basically stop and ask yourself ‘will this cause Cass to punch me’ and if the answer’s ‘yes’ don’t do it

Obake: if I asked myself that I’d never get anything done

Basically I want chaos sibs who are suddenly responsible for small humans and have no idea how to go about that

If we can’t call her Cass Hamada y’all’d best be prepared for the consequences

More Big Hero 6~

Eventually Obake does give Hiro the so you think you’re ace talk, but he felt this one was more immediately important. *bricked*

More on that Aken/Hamada Collective I pick at on occasion—doodled this up back in August and felt recently compelled to finish it, so here we go. :D

So I had a lot of fun doing the different poses and expressions—that middle there feels inspired by stuff like Lackadaisy Cats and Calvin and Hobbes, since both of those comics have those big panels of people talking.  Although Aunt Cass there might be channeling more of the mom from Calvin and Hobbes than anything else.  Her brother is the source of a lot of stress-eating for her. ^^;

Did this in my monochromatic sketchy style that I love—the initial sketch was blue so I decided to keep that color scheme, but I did want to include Obake’s stripe in a different color.  In a different piece I had experimented with red and didn’t like it, but as it turns out the pink works just fine (and matches his face).  Maybe because I had done that color combo for a different BH6 piece (one for Obake Itoko that I’m still kinda debating on posting).

Also, I love the fact that Obake’s official design 1) does not have stripes on his sweater, 2) does not have lapels, and 3) has the buttons on the opposite side, but every time I failed to include one of those things or tried to put the buttons on the proper side my brain went mmm no like and left me to put everything as I usually have it. X’D

Anything else?  I think that’s it…please do not let Obake help with child-rearing that way lies anarchy. D:

Ok I don't think I even need you to tell me that their wedding day was total chaos (or maybe it wasn't? And it suspiciously went off without a bang???), like, there are villains there from almost EVERYWHERE, and Kaijo's family and the Villains are all like "sup, how you doin'?"

Oh, and what about when Elaine finds out she's expecting? Like, I can imagine the panic Elaine must have felt because, "Me? A mom??? In MY line of work????? And Kaijo was like "It's ok, calm down, pregnancy tests aren't always right... right?" And she's like "How would I know, YOU'RE THE DOCTOR HERE!"

And it was all just fear and angst (and moments of calm and tender) until the very last minute when it's finally time and everyone is holding their breaths.

Obake doesn't know what to feel because Elaine doesn't even know what to feel, but he has already made plans on who and where the child can stay with, just in case (which his sister legitimately almost strangled him for it after he told her (pregnancy hormones)).

Cass is conflicted because she knows that bringing a child into a family like theirs is really dangerous, but also "I'M GONNA BE AN AUNT!!! HECK YEAH!!!"

Mr. Hamada is terrified (because new dad) and also he doesn't know what this means for them moving forward, but he'd been putting on a brave face and reassuring Elaine that he's gonna be there every step of the way.

And Elaine, well, she's the one caught up in it all isn't she?

She's scared and confused and doesn't know if she's ready, their parents died, and she's sure she did a pretty ok job with Obake and Cass, but then she sees Obake throw someone out a window and wonders "Ok, maybe not that good" and starts questioning everything, even herself.

But it isn't until she heard the crying did it all become real, or the first time she held her son that everything became clear.

A snippet on that Aken-Hamada AU:

Obake totally as a kid had A Phase—brief one, mind you—where he tried to get in on the biker/skater scene

Briefly

I imagine the Aken kids grew up in their universe’s equivalent of the 90s/00s during peak grunge and when Tony Hawk (Tonii Taka?) was at the height of his popularity

And Obake did all the calculations and physics and such and went oh yes I can TOTALLY do this

The risk he took was calculated but man was he bad at math

So he makes a whole thing in the backyard and gets Cass to help, when he gets ready to do it Cass has the camcorder and Elaine has the cordless phone in one hand and the car keys in the other, because she just KNOWS this will end badly and she’ll either have to drive him to the hospital herself or call an ambulance

Long story short is Obake failed to account for personal skill and did totally wipe out hard enough to be rushed to the hospital

Cass is filming and laughing the whole way

Obake is yelling at Elaine and claiming all the safety stuff she made him wear threw off his calculations

Elaine is yelling at Obake and telling him well at least I’m not driving you to the MORGUE if you’re so smart why didn’t you account for the extra weight?

So, after healing up from his various bumps, bruises, scrapes, stitches, and greenstick fractures, Obake does revise his calculations and try again

This time around the doctor stitching him up suggests finding a new hobby. Obake agrees

(Obake also thinks his idiocy is safe on the camcorder because of how much fuss it would be to play it on anything else.  What he doesn’t count on is Cass telling Tadashi this and Tadashi being motivated enough to dig it up, convert it, and put it on YouTube oops)

Yes I will shenanigan until some Tumblr limit makes me stop XD

Obake would definitely be the proud dad, Tadashi would be all sorts of concerned because dangit even the cat is bottled chaos

Tadashi enjoys hanging out with his friends because as far as he’s concerned they’re ‘normal’ so he really has no idea how to handle Fred’s dad being a superhero

Tadashi: anyone else have anything they’d like to declare?

Honey Lemon: I have a baby cousin who says he sees our dead relatives but he’s like twelve and super-hyper.

I do remember—that was the time I got my parents to watch the show and posted about it XD

The whole family is just barely contained chaos I found a screenshot of a muddy Hiro with no backup or nothing legit getting ready to throw down with Monster!Ned and that has to come from somewhere

Tadashi, when he finally snaps and goes feral, makes Obake weep tears of joy because finally, we’re connecting

Obake’s torn when it comes to Olivia because on the one hand he’s ambivalent about Fred and disgusted at Mole BUT this is a good excuse to bust out the popcorn and obnoxious straws again Cass you are failing me in the entertainment department

He’s probably more concerned with Fred coming in and flopping down on the table do it on the floor like a normal person

I do think we’d skip the whole Fredrique thing because Tadashi would yeet Mole out of the café and tell Fred yeah we’re not doing that

OH WAIT—Supersonic Sue and Supersonic Stu XD

Sue’s more willing to play by The Rules than Steamer and has declared Gogo her nemesis-in-training, she’s filed the papers and everything

Gogo is fine with this, Tadashi isn’t sure what to make about Sue and Stu coming into the café for cookies, Sue and Stu are the only ones cool with the idea of Hiro having his own pair of rocket skates

Cass questions why there’s paperwork and Obake tells her he honestly thought that would deter people

Oh gosh the plot of “Big Hero Seven” would go off the rails once Obake found out—first half would be Tadashi and Hiro going do NOT let Uncle Bob know, second half would be I hate the fact that we have to RESCUE Richardson but what can you do

Gogo: Not rescue him?

Obake also vibes with Gogo she’s like the only one who is not surprised at the fact that he’s a supervillain

That time he rocked in announcing that for personal reasons I will be destroying the city, her knee-jerk response was mood

4 2 Sing probably gets a flat what from him XD

And then he tells Cass that he’ll be hiding in his lair until this all blows over

Cass: don’t you leave me alone with this

Maybe he (or Hiro, or Trina, or Tadashi) reprograms the dragon so NBB and his sibs have a dragon-sib

It ends up being good advertising for 4 2 Sing too so that backfired XD

OH, RISHI

At this point Granville is like why do I attract these kids

And it’s the question of do I have Hiro mentor him to calm the both of them down or is that a bad idea because then the chaos multiplies?

It’s the latter

Hiro gets aggravated by Rishi (his font of patience is much shallower in the AU) and declares him his new nemesis

Obake’s response to this is good you needed a new one after you friendzoned Karmi

Honey Lemon and Cass both term the shift from nemesis to friend as upgraded to friend status but Obake prefers a good nemesis those are so hard to find

Hiro mentors Rishi all right, but it’s primarily in how to be a proper nemesis, Rishi thinks he’s kinda nuts and WHY would I care what your uncle thinks?

AND THEN UNCLE BOB SHOWS UP

“No, no, this scheme is poorly researched and ill-planned, fail, try again, once more from the top”

The good news is, the boys are learning new things and how to build a better mousetrap

The bad news is, Granville is buying stock in migraine medication

Chaos everywhere XD

(SFIT is doomed to catch fire a second time, she just knows it)

I KNOW SHAME ON ME

While we’re talking about Obake and characters I haven’t mentioned yet:

Obake has this whole conniption when he finds out that Fred’s dad is Boss Awesome

Calls him up because he got BA’s number from his sister Elaine (because of course BA would consider her a superhero)

Obake is also kind of peeved at this because dangit Elaine I can get on these peoples’ radar ON MY OWN THANK YOU

(Mr. and Mrs. Aken were very concerned while the kids were growing up and HOPING that this was a phase)

(it was not)

BA is all just hi Bob

Obake: Do you MIND???

BA: well our kids are friends so sticking with the formalities at this point is kind of awkward

Also Cass walks by while he’s on the phone and goes Is that Boss Awesome?  Say hi for me will you?

Obake, grumbling: Cass says hi.

Obake also calls him up in a whole fit when Steamer shows up again because Steamer doesn’t play nice by his rules he has them printed up at this point and everything

Meantime BA’s all the kids can totally take Steamer don’t sweat it

I bet Boss Awesome’s files is how Fred finds out ‘uncle Bob’ is actually supervillain Obake and he confronts Tadashi and Tadashi is like ???  Yeah???  It’s why I wanted to start this whole thing

Meantime Obake snitches the files and starts reading through them and THIS is how he finds out Fred’s dad is Boss Awesome

Speaking of not playing by the rules Sparkles is probably who gets Dr. Amara on Obake’s trail to begin with

“Oh yeah we’ve got a whole thing going on he’s got a hit out on me for stealing his sister’s cat—you know Slow Clap Cat?”

Mochi might be Cass’s cat but he likes to sit in Obake’s lap when he works on his stuff there

Also random fluff: Hiro had the habit of crawling into bed with one of the other family members when he had a bad dream, his reasoning for Obake when he stayed over is you come with a built-in nightlight

Obake: that’s not what that is but fair

Matter of fact that episode where Fred loses Mochi would probably have Obake throwing him out of the café like Uncle Phil yeeting Jazz and yelling YOU BRING BACK MY SISTER’S CAT OR SO HELP ME—

Yes Obake would have totally gotten rid of Trevor if he had known

Hiro and Tadashi piece it together from their respective convos and go yeah we must never tell Uncle Bob

Yes XD  I’m thinking she was trying to rein in the crazy so she bans Obake

Oh I like that—and then she goes into her office one morning and there’s Obake, sitting at her desk with one of the dismantled security bots and a grin going hi there!

Granville: I should be glad I got five minutes of peace, it seems

She has changed the locks three times and he still finds a way in

He tries using the excuse that he’s an alumni but she points out that technically, he never graduated

Blowing up the campus is an automatic fail, apparently

AU where Cass and Obake are siblings

So just picture her raising her nephews with occasional chaotic input from their ‘weird uncle Bob’

Whom she doesn’t DARE let babysit anymore because 1) he never says no and 2) he also happily enables the chaos

And totally lets the boys play with the chainsaw

Forget the fact that she doesn’t know WHERE it came from, for some reason they have one now

Also Obake keeps letting Hiro go on ‘supervised visits’ to Good Luck Alley

And of all his ‘friends’ Felony Carl is honestly the only one she trusts to take care of kids despite being called ‘Felony’ Carl

Felony Carl is forever the mom friend no matter what situation I’m sorry I don’t make the rules

Basically Obake and Cass have the same sibling dynamic that Jon and Evvie do in The Mummy

“You lied to me!”

“So? I lie to everyone!”

“I’m your sister!”

“That just makes you more gullible!”

They take the mickey out of each other Cass never lets him forget about that time he blew up his college and Obake never lets her forget the time she stabbed a dude

“It was an ACCIDENT”

And yet they’re also ride-or-die and would totally help each other hide the body

The boys’ mom was the responsible one so basically it’s two feral gremlins trying to raise two feral gremlins

Hiro declares revenge on someone and Obake helps him brainstorm

Hiro graduates at thirteen and everyone in the school system is glad to see the back end of him AND his uncle

Tadashi graduated early too you don’t have a supergenius for a relative AND bad math grades

Hiro just graduated earlier because he vibes more with Obake

Obake and Cass are both aware of the family resemblance and have concerns

Cass more than Obake, Obake is more like Mushu on our little baby’s all grown up and destroying people

Tadashi is AGGRESSIVELY nice and responsible in an attempt to counterbalance his uncle

Who likes to say that SFIT wasn’t the same since he left

Cass: that’s what being reduced to rubble generally does, yes

Obake: do you MIND???

Yes she’s aware her brother is a supervillain but she’d like to keep the boys from knowing

So basically Tadashi and Hiro are like the youngest members of a crime syndicate without being aware of it

They secretly suspect

So do Tadashi’s friends

Wait what do you mean your weird uncle is a scary crime boss?

Also Cass has informed Obake that he has to give her at least twenty-four hours’ notice before he does anything catastrophic

Obake: define catastrophic

Cass: blowing up the city, reversing street signs, stealing people’s left shoes…basically stop and ask yourself ‘will this cause Cass to punch me’ and if the answer’s ‘yes’ don’t do it

Obake: if I asked myself that I’d never get anything done

Basically I want chaos sibs who are suddenly responsible for small humans and have no idea how to go about that

If we can’t call her Cass Hamada y’all’d best be prepared for the consequences

And you can't tell me that Obake wasn't close with their mom, she was probably his favourite (older?) sister (when you don't really have a social life you tend to bond with the closest person that actually gets you), so when she died he was probably even more closed off then he was before and was probably a little cold to other family members (if he wasn't already he probably got colder) and only really bonded with Hiro because he saw himself a lot in the boy, but Tadashi was the weird one out (his and Obake's life view are different, and very much the same all at the same time), and then him blaming Obake for their parents dying (kids can be VERY vocal) probably didn't help their relationship much (it probably hurt Obake more hearing those words, that he never even really cared about her, like she wasn't the one person in the world he could count on).

Tadashi probably also grew up thinking that everyone was on Obake's side, even Aunt Cass, and kept his distance from anyone who wasn't his brother and occasionally Aunt.

I feel like Tadashi used to disappear for days on end, making Cass worry to the point that Obake had to do something (she is not a woman of empty threats), and even though Tadashi and Hiro are close, I feel like there's also a big divide between them.

A lot of the times Hiro would get angry that Tadashi was so cold and stand offish towards their uncle that he would start blaming and accusing Tadashi of anything that he thinks would hurt (which is barely anything really) until he goes to far and uses the death of their parents (he doesn't really know him that well anyways he's kind of attached from the fact that they are dead) and blames Tadashi for it like Tadashi blames Obake, and in those moments he sort of regrets it when he sees the visible hurt on Tadashi's face (which, ow, that kinda hurt me to imagine), but it only lasts for a second before he closes off again and walks away (probably to let his frustrations out somewhere else so as not to yell at Hiro) and Hiro tells Obake about it, who just brushes it off and tells Hiro that "Your brother's just being dramatic, he'll get over it, he always does".

Aunt Cass is like the glue that's trying to keep them together, but she knows she isn't enough anymore. When they were younger it was easier, but now?

When sibling dynamics are Chaos™ XD

Oh man that makes me think Elaine babysitting toddler/early grade school Obake and Cass, someone tries to hug them because oh so cute and Obake just whips out a knife and Elaine goes he *will* cut you like Guy does about Belt on The Croods

Just real matter-of-fact

Oh yeah it was always those three together and the moment someone else tried something it was so you have chosen death

So I actually hadn’t given too much thought yet on how Elaine meets Mr. Hamada (I’ve been calling him Kaijo in the AU because I legit don’t know what his canon name is ^^; ) BUT this gives me good vibes like

She ends up in Nueva York for like Fleet Week or something and her friend Sam takes her out on a bar crawl with some of the others but he’s all you gotta meet my friends they live here and they know the BEST shawarma place like remember the one in Budapest it’s better than that

So they’re out having a good time and they run into a bunch of med students at this bar with a cool atmosphere and a flirty bartender

Said bartender talks Kaijo into playing “shoot and score” with Elaine

He goes up to her to flirt and they have a mutual dang they hot moment

They spend the whole night chatting, exchange numbers and the like, stay in contact

And yeah totally she shows up on his fire escape one night and just goes hey d’you want some practical experience with stitching someone up?

And he has this moment of oh bleep are you sure shouldn’t we go to the hospital and she’s like

Nah they charge money and I’m pretty sure you’ll do this for a coffee, right?

And totally he ends up being the one to patch the Akens up on the sly and the first time he has to do it for class the teacher’s super-impressed because he’s not shaking or nothing

Meantime Kaijo’s all so this is the first time I’m doing this when I’m *supposed* to internally

Obake was like the worst with stitches or getting patched up he always twitched away because no touchy I don’t know you

Either Cass or Elaine always has to hold his hand to keep him still during this and Kaijo is a little amused but smart enough to keep his expression neutral

(Hiro and Tadashi end up being the same way)

And them taking Kaijo out for a coffee afterwards kind of becomes a running gag the one time he forgets he’s all AHEM I do not do this for free

But Obake is totally the last one to warm up to him because yeah you’re cool but this is my sister you’re moving in on no you’re not good enough

And he doesn’t really warm up to Kaijo until that time he goes to the apartment looking for Elaine because he’s in trouble again

And Kaijo comes in to him being threatened and after having an oh bleep what did I just walk in on moment he doesn’t hesitate to Throw Hands with the baddies that followed Obake

Which was when Obake was finally all okay no you’re cool

And oh yeah Kaijo’s skilled at talking his way out of things because as a doctor he’s got to deliver news and figure stuff out without making the patients panic so he’s very even-keeled externally even though internally it’s just PANIC

He also kinda gives Obake a male role model, such as it were

Basically it’s okay I like you too anyone messes with you and they’re dead

And for a while Kaijo’s doing like, volunteer work at this little doctor’s office in the Bronx

No one touches Kaijo thanks to the Akens

Obake vibes with Kaijo’s boss Dr. Becker who vibes back because see?  See?  I’m not the only one who feels this way Margret

And Obake does totally start viewing Kaijo as a Family Member when he points out you don’t need any more brownie points with Elaine for helping me and Kaijo goes I wasn’t doing that for Elaine

It does make Elaine surprised when she announces the engagement because she was expecting at least some resistance from Obake instead of yes good when XD

A snippet on that Aken-Hamada AU:

Obake totally as a kid had A Phase—brief one, mind you—where he tried to get in on the biker/skater scene

Briefly

I imagine the Aken kids grew up in their universe’s equivalent of the 90s/00s during peak grunge and when Tony Hawk (Tonii Taka?) was at the height of his popularity

And Obake did all the calculations and physics and such and went oh yes I can TOTALLY do this

The risk he took was calculated but man was he bad at math

So he makes a whole thing in the backyard and gets Cass to help, when he gets ready to do it Cass has the camcorder and Elaine has the cordless phone in one hand and the car keys in the other, because she just KNOWS this will end badly and she’ll either have to drive him to the hospital herself or call an ambulance

Long story short is Obake failed to account for personal skill and did totally wipe out hard enough to be rushed to the hospital

Cass is filming and laughing the whole way

Obake is yelling at Elaine and claiming all the safety stuff she made him wear threw off his calculations

Elaine is yelling at Obake and telling him well at least I’m not driving you to the MORGUE if you’re so smart why didn’t you account for the extra weight?

So, after healing up from his various bumps, bruises, scrapes, stitches, and greenstick fractures, Obake does revise his calculations and try again

This time around the doctor stitching him up suggests finding a new hobby. Obake agrees

(Obake also thinks his idiocy is safe on the camcorder because of how much fuss it would be to play it on anything else.  What he doesn’t count on is Cass telling Tadashi this and Tadashi being motivated enough to dig it up, convert it, and put it on YouTube oops)

And you mentioning Season 2 and the DRAMA makes me think:

So in canon Dr. Amara turns people into monsters apparently for the fits and giggles BUT in the AU these are people Obake’s in contact and friendly with so

Once Obake tells her to shape up or ship out and she goes challenge accepted she immediately begins to work systematically through his contacts

So her turning High Voltage and Momakase (and maybe Dibs?) into monsters isn’t just crimes of opportunity, they’re direct targets against Obake to get him incensed and sloppy

It works, somewhat, by the time she crosses The Line we’ve reached Diplomacy has failed us, you have chosen DEATH

Peace was never an option

Sparkles probably happened earlier and Obake’s like I did not need to be reminded this little gremlin man existed

Although I do wonder how he’d react to the Mayoi

Probably tell Baymax to scan it and when Baymax gets to the part about the mold he and Cass are like get it out before the health inspector comes back
