Oh look it’s these two goombas—

So most of my writing time right now is occupied by LaL 2, but infrequently I’ll circle back to The Aken-Hamada Collective, AKA that AU where Obake and Cass are siblings.  Do have some stuff written up for them, and in comparing what I have written for the ‘main’ story and what I have written on the side, I seem to prefer writing the stuff that comes pre-canon.  Saying that, I do have some lined up and ready to go, just need to do the illustrations for them.

On the topic of the art…Cass 100% wants to do cute and goofy stuff and Obake doesn’t, especially before coffee, he probably just rolled out of bed after Cass has been up and running for a good five hours.  It’s not his fault he’s a night owl, okay???

Also reference time, Obake’s mug is in reference to the song “Crazy = Genius” by Panic! At the Disco, while his sweater is based on a shirt Krumitz wears on CSI: Cyber.  Now it’s the question of if he’s the nerd that bought the sweater or if one of his relatives did instead. XD

BH6 Snippets--2/12/2024

So after getting the sequel to (Not So) Hated by Life Itself, Ghost's Reign, and Ghost's Legacy all up to the next hundred, I'm going through my other fics to see if I got one close, ended up working on the main body of The Aken/Hamada Collective:

“Oh hi, Mr. Dibs!” Honey Lemon said, waving. “Hi Honey Lemon!  You hear that?  She calls me mister,” Dibs said to Uncle Bob. “I suppose it’s less insulting than what you’re usually called,” Uncle Bob said. “Hey.” “Hi, Uncle Dibs,” Tadashi said—mostly to be needling to Uncle Bob.  “What’s that you got there?” “That reminds me, you owe me twenty bucks,” Dibs told Uncle Bob.  “In the meantime: this is for you.” “Lovely,” Uncle Bob said, unwrapping the rectangular parcel to reveal what Tadashi had been dreading. “City Rises!” Honey Lemon gasped.  “It’s okay!  Where’d you find it?” “Uhhhh on a wall,” Dibs said.  “Definitely on a wall.” “On a wall in the museum,” Tadashi clarified, glowering at Uncle Bob.  “Did you seriously pay Uncle Dibs to steal that?” “Stealing it myself was beneath me,” Uncle Bob said. “Also he hasn’t paid me yet,” Dibs said. Uncle Bob rolled his eyes, dug in a pocket and handed Dibs a twenty.  “Here, use it in good health.  In the meantime.”  Swung the painting around and up with the clear intent to bring it down on the edge of the desk—Tadashi was already moving to intercept when Uncle Bob stopped at Dibs and Honey Lemon’s dismayed gasps. “Okay fine we’ll do it the pedantic way,” Uncle Bob groused, taking a screwdriver and cutting the back covering of the painting open.  “Honestly.”

I love how I got a lot more of the backstory for this fic written up as opposed to the actual fic itself, delving into the pre-'canon' lives of these guys is fun.

Also:

“Well I was going to do City Rises for my masters’ copy so maybe I can give you that one?” Honey Lemon offered. “Okay.  What’s a masters’ copy?” “It’s when you go to school to learn how to forge art,” Uncle Bob called back. “Oh—you don’t have to pay college prices, I know a guy,” Dibs assured her. "Know a guy who'll fence it for you too."

For clarification, my first college had the senior art majors doing "masters' copies," where they tried their best to imitate one of the masters' art pieces. My thought even as a freshman was so they're teaching us to do art forgeries???

Mood music~

So y’all remember that AU where Aunt Cass and Obake are siblings, AKA The Aken/Hamada Collective?  Have some art of the siblings being siblings.

So when Obake’s home at the Lucky Cat with Cass he tends to slum down a little—it’s his sister, he doesn’t have to dress to impress, obviously.  Plus when he stays home someone else makes the coffee, which is always a bonus. ;)

Obake’s sweater and mug are in reference to the song “Istanbul (not Constantinople),” which was stuck in my head while working up some of the info for Austinbul—figure if there’s an Austinbul, there’s a Dallastinople. XD

More Big Hero 6~

Getting ready to post a short story for The Aken/Hamada Collective so I wanted to have some art for it…context is occasionally Tadashi gets picked up from school by Uncle Bob, which tends to be an awkward ride because the two have never gotten along well.  Tadashi has a Kim Possible backpack, by the way.

Had to get some images of the inside of a trolley car for reference—other than that, mini-Tadashi was fun to draw. :D

Lucky Number 18 is: The Aken/Hamada Collective!

Being that AU where Obake and Aunt Cass are siblings, which resulted in total chaos and a good chunk of angst but eh, it's Big Hero 6, angst is to be expected. Basically the boys, in addition to their aunt, have a chaos uncle who does not vibe with the law and neither do his friends who also end up being Aunt Cass's friends too. Also the whole star machine thing never happens because Aunt Cass has Opinions about her cafe getting nuked no blowing up the city Bob.

Obake: But science!

Cass: BOB!

BH6 Snippets - 2/17/2023

Got some work done on The Aken/Hamada Collective last night--have a bit where Obake and Hiro are discussing the whole decision to become superheroes:

“Well, it was nice being your uncle.”

“Wait what?” Hiro asked, blinking.  “Why would you say that?”

“Because your aunt made it very clear that if this persisted she would kill me.”

“Uhhh we can talk to her about it, right?  Convince her not to do that?”

Hmm, could they?  Debate….

Pull a chair over so he could sit in front of Hiro.

“Yes, we can,” he said.  “But it’s going to involve the prickly aspect of basically baby-proofing the city.”

“Huh?” Hiro noised, looking offended.

“Your aunt’s main concern is the chaos aspect of this whole ordeal, the unpredictability that could end in one of you dead in a gutter somewhere,” Obake explained, waving a hand.  “And I’m sure you’ve noticed a lack of purse-snatching and such to stop.”

“Yeah—Fred’s disappointed that there’s not monsters and giant robots to stop.”

“I can’t say anything to the former, but we could do something about the latter.”

Hiro blinked—perked up.  “Come again?”

Tap his knee.  “I’ll be nice and humor Tadashi—I’ll even play along.  You need an overarching supervillain to fight, do you not?  This way all parties win.”

“Except you.”

“Hardly—you two get to enjoy yourselves, and Tadashi and I finally have interactions we agree on.”  Seeing as how Tadashi viewed him as a villain anyway. “Cass is assured you’re safe, you all get something challenging to face, I get to test out designs…everyone wins.”

“Except for the part where it’s kinda fake.”

“Your video games are kind of fake, does that ever stop you?” But he did have a point in how Tadashi would handle this if he knew.  “But I agree—therefore it’s our little secret, is it not?”

Hiro grinned as this sunk in.  “Yeah!”

Shook his hand on it—maybe this would work out in his favor after all.

So long as Tadashi never found out.

Obake knows that Cass will murder him if something happens to the boys so he’s got some work to do to prep the city for a little superhero group.

The Aken/Hamada Collective--Christmas Bits #3

On the list of Christmas specials the Aken-Hamadas make a point to watch, White Christmas is always a priority because it’s Elaine’s favorite Christmas movie

The collective, during their knockabout years, did indeed go to Vermont one year to try to recreate the movie for funzies (also to get Obake out of Miami, he had done things again)

Elaine got the outfit they wear at the end when she was little and wore it until it fell apart, got a grown-up version of it that year

The Aken/Hamada Collective--Christmas Bits #2

Cass will play a ton of old Christmas songs since that’s what they listened to growing up (parents were big fans of Bing, Dean, Frank and the Beach Boys) but she’ll also play a lot of country Christmas and Jimmy Buffet, plus Harry Belafonte, since she got used to listening to that while wintering in Austinbul and Miami with Obake in their knockabout years

She also got him to learn some of the dances over the years so when a really rockin’ song comes on she expects some assistance

The Aken/Hamada Collective--Christmas Bits

Obake will rock the ugliest Christmas sweaters and vests, they’re gifts from his sisters and if you dare mock them just know that blood red goes well with his current ensemble.

Tadashi too rocks ugly Christmas sweaters and will spend the year scouring San Fransokyo for that one sweater that gets an eye-twitch out of Obake.

(they all do, sibling gifts are the only ones that get a pass from Obake but he uses Tadashi’s attempts as an excuse to practice his nonreactions)

BH6 Snippets--2/2/2023

Spent the day working on a piece that you’ll see tomorrow and the one fic is in endgame stuff that can basically be summarized as breaking news: the boys are fighting so instead have a snippet from The Aken/Hamada Collective

For context, this is the Thanksgiving special and takes place after The Coffee is Best in Austinbul:

“Thanks Elaine, you’re the best,” Sam said as they filed in—froze when he spotted Bob.  “YOU.”

Bob looked like Christmas came early as recognition kicked in, was grinning broadly at Sam.  “Me.”

“No.  No. Not you.”

“Mind filling us in?” Bucky asked.

“My brother, Bob,” Elaine explained.  “He and Sam have had disagreements in the past.”

“Disagreements remember how I told you about the little gremlin that kept undoing all my hard work as her best man?” Sam demanded.  “That guy.  You rigged the turkey, didn’t you.”

“I rigged everything,” Bob said, grinning so hard he was in danger of splitting his face.

“He touched nothing don’t believe him,” Elaine said.

“Do believe me.”

“Bob.”

Also Elaine may or may not be friends with the Avengers.

Now usually today I draw Stitch because of course it’s 6/26 but after watching Lilo and Stitch again with Mom I had to do this exchange. XD

Granted I don’t have it labeled with a specific story but if I had to guess it takes place in the Live and Learn AU (AKA the time-traveling Obake AU) because of the combo of Tadashi being alive and Honey Lemon and Gogo being roommates—also Tadashi’s way too chipper here to properly fit into the Aken/Hamada Collective version, where he’s much more serious. ^^;  Also yes that’s Stitch on his hat. XD

Anywho banged this out in about an hour, happy Stitch Day and enjoy the existential dread regarding the passage of time and the knowledge that that movie came out 22 years ago. D:

Had a BH6 dream last night

Disney never gave us a season 4 so apparently the subconscious is trying to fill that void

And apparently it was influenced by me working on some BH6 AUs yesterday because there were some similarities there

Anyway Obake and Momakase captured by Sycorax, figured out a way to get out, called Dibs (who was not Globby in this) and Felony Carl for a getaway ride

On the way out they run into Aunt Cass, who had also been captured

To the back fence, almost out, Dibs and Carl hollering for them to go, Sycorax goons after them, Momakase is holding them off, Obake makes a snap decision and tosses Cass at Dibs and tells them to floor it as he goes back for Momakase

Apparently this was motivated by consideration for Hiro

But since all three were imprisoned at Sycorax, that meant Cass had the monster-stuff as well (passive buffs included super-strength apparently) and Dr. Amara was threatening to ‘activate’ Cass to get to Hiro

Woke up going oh wait that’s some good stuff write it down but am also confused because the two AUs I have where this fits well would be...well it wouldn’t fit

Live and Learn series, since it’s adult!Obake, Cass wouldn’t have a thing to do with him and the impression I got was she’d want to go back and rescue him

The Aken/Hamada Collective they’re sibs so that fits with Obake prioritizing her safety over his own, but at the same time Hiro, Tadashi, Trina and company would have been tearing Sycorax to bits

So near as I can figure...it’s another AU that apparently starts off taking place during “Nega-Globby”

Dangit let me finish some of the ones I got before starting a new one *sob*

BH6 Snippets--2/9/2024

Bit of a short snippet today since the majority was for another one-shot from the Aken/Hamada Collective AU that will hopefully be posted next week, in the meantime enjoy a bit from the sequel to that time-traveling Obake AU (Not So) Hated by Life Itself:

Scrub at his face, trying to dislodge the tangle of thoughts in his head—looked over when Hiro plopped down next to him on his pallet. “So?” Hiro asked, grinning.  “Admit it, I have good taste.” Oog.  “Well I trust your taste over your brother’s.” “This is very true, Tadashi’s a total nerd when it comes to clothes.” “Feel like the proper term is square.” “Is that even in vogue anymore?  Didn’t people in like the fifties use that?” “Yes, which makes it even worse—people then think he’s passe as well.” Hiro considered this.  “Okay, fair, the logic checks out."

For context, the Hamada family dragged Obake out clothes shopping. Obake has Opinions™ about this and Hiro and Tadashi enjoyed throwing wild clothes at him.

BH6 Snippets--2/7/2023

*gasp* Yes I’m early but like I said, working ahead to ensure I can play Hogwarts Legacy guilt-free because I KNOW I’ll be too jazzed afterwards to focus.

Anyway...had a run of work on what would be season 2 of the time-travelling Obake AU:

"Anything else to report?”

“The Daisukes are having a yard sale,” Hiro said. “Well, a stoop sale, since they don’t have a garage or yard.”

“And this interests me why?”

“I got a mini shark gun.”

Blink, look at him.  “Do what?”

Hiro grinned, pulled his hand out of his pocket to show him.  “See?  Watch.”  Pull the trigger, making the shark mouth open and shut.  “The dorsal fin flips open I think you put water in it and it squirts at people.”

“It seems like your sort of thing,” Obake said, tipping his head at it.  “I guess this means you don’t want the big shark gun now.”

“I totally want the big shark gun how’s the calculating going?”

“You’re going to have to take up weightlifting,” Obake said, pulling up both the video and the calculations.  “To launch this particular payload and get that effect, we’d need a sturdier material.  The recoil alone would shatter what we have now.”

“We can go for a lighter payload,” Hiro said.  “We don’t have to be able to wipe out a whole council.”

“Follow politics for a while and get back to me.”

“Also Tadashi would be mad and confiscate the gun.”

“That’s more problematic,” Obake agreed.  

I thought of a little shark squirt gun and went definitely a toy Hiro would have.  Obake, of course, would make it more percussive.  The bigger shark gun they’re referencing is the one at the end of Arcane and no, the boys aren’t allowed to make it.

this does not stop Obake

(also if you’ve been following The Aken/Hamada Collective the Daisukes are also the Akens’ neighbors whose living room mini-Obake shot with a cannon once)

Oh look, more stuff for The Aken/Hamada Collective~

So this summer I’ve been working on some more background stuff for The Aken/Hamada Collective, AKA that AU where Obake and Cass are siblings, which includes how Dibs/Globby meets the Aken sibs.  Hopefully we’ll be seeing another short story from this universe before the year’s out.

Anywho—had this scene from Ice Age 2 on the brain and it fit too well.  Not that Obake agrees. XD

(also I love how I’ve done Obake’s outfit in the PLA AU so many times that I actually started trying to do it with this one too X’D)
