Part two to that supervillain roman au, context for this comic strip sketch under the cut:
So. For one, both quotes spoken arent mine they are raw lines sourced from a list of tumblr shitposts.
Somehow its come into my mind that the way that Roman came to be a supervillain was because of a dare/promise to his twin brother when they were kids when one of them had just been discovered as having super powers(they both had powers, but they’d both been raised trying to hide it and live a normal-ish life before getting dragged into what we’ll dub “super youth school” or whatever for the forseeable future, bc they knew that that was easily a life sentence to hero work whether they wanted it or not.) Remus got found-out first bc his powers control fluctuates with how much control remus has over his own head at that moment. Roman was dragged along with even if he hadnt been found out as twins were known to share the super power trait more commonly than if only one did, regardless of when/if their powers actually manifested at the same time.
So at like 13 they’re dragged to this super school thats def more like a training camp but a *littol more* ethical than u would think it was. Its not a super horrible place, honestly. But Roman’s still trying to hide his powers. This is made easier by the fact that he and Remus do not have identical powers but instead entirely seperate/opposite foils in a way? Remus has more access to offensive power-sets while roman is more defensive.
Well.
One day a super nasty Actual Supervillain plans and executes a sudden and devastating attack on the school, first aiming to collapse the building and then taking out any stragglers inside, because, yknow. These kids could be the future heros of his undoing(oh how right and yet so*wrong* that turns out to be) and taking a chunk of this generation out now atleast delays the eventual inevitable.
Its in this event that Roman is with a fellow classmate Remy, and Remus is in a dif part of the building, with classmates Janus, Patton, and Virgil. Remy wasnt gifted with super strength, but Roman had quick enough reflexes to summon a hard-light type shield from the collapse. Only he and Remy and maybe one other student out of their entire classroom makes it past the initial collapse, and while Remus has a quick regeneration factor, that doesnt mean he has invincibility so much as super strength in the sense that he wouldnt withstand the inital collapse but it probs would kill him.(lucky for remus, Virgil is a prodigy at teleportation and manages to get the four of them out safely and *far* away from the chaos. ….at the same time, this group roughly around ages 16-18 realizes this is their only real chance to run and escape this place for good and have a second chance at living low-profile normal-ish lives for a while, and thus make a *run for it*)
Roman and Remy manage to lay low and eventually get rescued by an active superhero, all the while Roman doing his level best to maintain the lightshield to keep the weight of the building from crushing them for *hours*
Essentially, the brothers end up believing that the other is dead from the disaster, the others even legally registered as such for years. And that silly kid promise of ‘if you win, we can become superheros, but if I win, we’re becoming super villains.’ It was just like, another one of their running jokes growing up. At a young age, Remus saw a major appeal in becoming a super villain, and Roman saw a major appeal in becoming a superhero, and as twins sometimes do, their young-adult counterparts came to the exact same conclusion(again, at different times but still the same decision in the end) after the collapse: “I’ll be the best super [hero/villain] i can be, for you, because *you* never got to.”
And Remus? His first order of business? Making his first superhero debut by offing the fucker that killed his brother and all the other helpless innocent lives that hadnt deserved to die.

oof, give the guy a second to talk virge. Maybe he’s changed for the better?
-Robin
"No! he's supposed to be dead!! I KILLED YOU!" Virgil shouts, pointing his finger at Pax.
"I dont even know you!" Pax responded, his voice cracking.
"dont fucking lie to me! i created you! you know who i am, Impulse!"
Pax stood there, eyes wide open... "Virgil... Anxiety..." he whispered
"good. now explain to me how youre-"
"Im not him! Virg, its me, its Patton! do you not.. recognize me?" Pax Patton begged
"you- youre not Patton! dont lie to me!!"
"Virgil. let him explain himself." Thomas finally jumped into the conversation.
"even if you are Patton, youve hurt people i care about, i dont care what your intentions are"
"thats unfair, Virg. you have to believe me! i didnt want to hurt you all, youre my family! but he... he told me it would help"
"and you listened to him?!" Virgil cried out
"he told me thats the only way to make Thomas better! i wasnt thinking! i... im sorry."
"prove it to me. prove to me that youve changed. prove to me that youre not going to hurt me or the others the moment we let our guard down."
Patton takes out a small purple box, it hisses.
"my weakness box... how did you get it? it was in my room"
"Janus stole it a bit ago to convince you to join us. but i held on to it because they didnt get along."
Virgil didnt respond
Patton handed the box to Virg, "here. i dont have anything to do with it"
"you- youre giving it to me?"
"yeah, its better than Janus having it" Patton smiled, "now come on, lets go calm the others down, i think we all need it"
"this is so cute" Thomas whispered
"i mean, we are the duo-est duo in the whole Thomasphere" Patton put his hand out for Virg
Virgil smiled, his eyeshadow turning purple as he grabs Patton's hand, "hell yeah we are"
"now the duo-est duo has some stuff to do" Patton led Virgil back into the mindscape.
"wow. that was a lot to find out.." Thomas picked up his phone, noticing a missed call from Nico, then throwing it on the couch.
"i need to talk to Roman."

Daily #11
As the anchor rose from the low crashing waves it slowly revealed the tied up bruised form of a bright red and yellow merman. It was hard to tell from a distance but if you heard closely you could hear it, the crying of the creature. And the sounds of it breathing, gasping for air, as the tight ropes cut off its main air supply. The creature didn’t even have enough strength anymore to fight back now only having barely enough to somehow get air in its lungs...and yet somehow it was still crying. Its only thoughts were of one person, one human, and those thoughts were cut off as he heard the voice of the same human he was just thinking about shouting something...
His name...
“ROMAN!!!”
He sounded so scared...so terrified...
He didn’t even have enough strength to open his eyes to see the one person he cared about most in the world...
His next thoughts were hoping his love would be safe, won’t be under this same torture, as his mind turned black.

Melted Mask
awitchbravestheverge prompt: I don't know if you're still taking prompts but you are a master of hurt/comfort and would sell you my soul for some of that for Janus. Maybe where he's feeling insecure or like he's worn out his welcome post acceptance, or maybe a little touch starved, or both. Preferably with Virgil or Patton as the comforter, but if not thats ok. I just have a never-ending need for fic where people are soft and gentle with the snake boy, and I love everything you write with my whole heart
Thanks for the request, babe!
Read on Ao3
Pairings: DLAMPR, focus on anxceit and moceit, can be platonic or romantic you decide I don’t mind
Warnings: uhhh sympathetic deceit and remus
Word Count: 4804
“How many masks of your own face are you currently wearing?”
 “At least four.”
Between the gloves, the cape, and the hat, there’s not an awful lot of Janus that is seen most of the time. Not that he particularly minds. There is a certain benefit that layers upon layers of clothing provides. One, they’re perfect for concealing his cane—the others always look so surprised when he summons it from nowhere. Two, he is Dark Side, thanks to Roman’s fantastic naming system. There is an aesthetic standard that must be met. What was he going to do, show up in some ratted old hoodie?
Three, well—there is an awful lot to look at. If the others are focused on the clasps at his throat, the shock of the yellow gloves, the logo hidden under the black fabric, they’re not looking at him.
If they were, they’d see his scales.
He is the only side with a visible animal trait, after all. The scales cover the left side of his face, down beneath his collar. He doesn’t mind the stares—come on, it’s so easy to catch them off guard, how could he?—but sometimes he does wonder if they’ll ever get used to it.
  To him.
The scales are a reminder. That he’s different. That he’s not like them. He’s not like the others, he doesn’t look like Thomas, at least not to the extent that they do. Thomas doesn’t have golden scales along the side of his face. Thomas doesn’t have a mouth that curves up along his cheek. Thomas doesn’t have a slit-eye pupil. No, no, Thomas is normal.
 How dreadful.
Then, of course, there are the lies.
‘Deceit.’ Such a funny word. And so…polarizing.
‘Deceitful,’ ‘dishonest,’ ‘dastardly’—lot of ‘d’s, here, hmm?—all of the words that just mean he’s a liar. And lying must be bad, right? So it follows logically then, because we simply adore logic in this house, that he must be bad.
He’s not to be trusted, he’s a liar. He’s not honest, he’s a liar. They have to double and triple-check everything he says because he’s a liar.
They always conveniently seem to forget that you can always trust a dishonest person to be dishonest. It’s the truthful ones you have to watch out for.
Janus knows he’s a liar. Frankly, he’s quite proud of it. He’s gotten very good at it too; twisting the words together just right in order to tug slightly at a heartstring there, block off just a little rationality there, get the job done. The others always get caught up in his words, too busy focusing on the minutia of it, the details, leaving him free to step around them and speak to Thomas.
They see the gloves, they see the scales, they see the lies.
 They see the masks.
Oh, sometimes he’ll put on a little bit more of a show if he needs to make a point, if the normal masks aren’t quite enough to get Thomas to listen. He’ll tie a hoodie around his shoulders, push a pair of glasses up his nose, knot a tie around his neck. Problem is…those ones are a little easier to see through. No matter how hard he tries, all of his disguises end up being a self-portrait.
Which is how he ended up here.
“You know the rules,” Patton says, his hands on his hips, “no impersonating others outside of filming!”
Janus rolls his eyes and idly flicks a speck of dirt off one of his gloves. “Oh, please. You don’t want me to do it during filming either.”
“No, I don’t, but we made a compromise, kiddo, now we both have to stick to it.”
Janus raises an eyebrow. “Yes, I’m sure the others will be relieved to hear so.”
“What have we said about impersonations?”
He sighs. “The others may be idiots—“
 “Oi!”
“—but idiots are also deserving of respect,” Janus finishes, glancing at Virgil draped over the back of the couch. “And I would never dream of being anything less than perfectly respectful.”
Virgil snorts. “What do you even get out of it anyway?” He sits up a little straighter. “Wait, you haven’t been tricking Roman into telling you how to impersonate us better, have you?”
“Now why would I do that?”
 “Janus!”
“What? Like you don’t make a habit of going to the others for advice.”
“There’s a difference between openly asking for it and tricking them into giving it to you.”
Janus levels a stare at him. “I suppose there is, isn’t there?”
“Hey!” Patton steps between them. “That’s enough.”
“Oh, well—“ Janus makes a show of resettling his cape—“if you say so.”
Patton sighs. “Janus, we are trying, okay? You heard Thomas, you’re…well, you’re more welcome now.”
“And you’re doing a marvelous job of that.”
Patton doesn’t quite deflate, but it’s close. “Well, maybe we could all try a little harder.” He gives Janus a pointed look.
“Yes, I’m sure my efforts will be richly rewarded.”
“Well, you could start by showing up as yourself more often.”
“Myself?” Janus gasps theatrically, putting a gloved hand to his scales. “Who’s that?”
“Dude,” Virgil sniggers—Virgil did always appreciate his sense of humor—“how many masks of your own face are you currently wearing”
 “At least four.”
Patton lets him go with another verbal slap on the wrist and Virgil flips him off. Janus sinks out, striding down the hallway near his room. It’s quieter here. The walls hum a little less. He can think.
He hadn’t gone to Roman to gets tips on his acting. He’d gone because Roman doesn’t want to talk to Janus.
Janus, the liar. Janus, the manipulator. Janus, the Dark Side.
Janus shuts the door of his room and instinctively slumps, the cape hanging off his shoulders. He knows Patton means well, and Virgil’s…Virgil, but sometimes it stings a little more than it should. Not that the others will ever see it.
He’ll never forget the look on Thomas’s face when Logan said he was the side that acts with the one priority of self-preservation. Of how it instantly demonized the idea of protecting yourself. Of Thomas keeping himself safe.
He looks at his hands, sees the gloves. They still don’t fit quite right, even after all these years. He can’t get the seams to run down the sides of the fingers, not curve around to the front or the back. It really shouldn’t be this difficult. Especially considering how much use he’s gotten out of them.
Lying kept Thomas alive. It kept him safe. He helped keep Thomas safe. When Virgil couldn’t breathe, when Logan faltered, when Patton froze, Janus would quietly make his way over to Roman and whisper a suggestion. Just a suggestion. To lie. To keep Thomas safe. To get them out of here. And it saved them. So many times.
Janus walks over to the mirror. It’s a fairly modest thing; about the size of a small sink, oval, large enough so he can see himself completely if he takes a few steps back. He ignores his own face and reaches for the golden latch on the side. He turns it.
The cabinet swings open to reveal a dark velvet interior with several small podiums. Each has a thin mask laid atop it. They gleam in the low light of the room. Janus reaches out and carefully makes sure each is perfectly centered. As he does so, his gloves linger on the fine print beneath the podiums.
Everyone has masks. Versions of themselves to present to the world when they need to. A mask that keeps you safe, a mask that keeps you alive, a mask that has the courage to speak when you don’t. The mask they wear around their homophobic relatives, the mask they wear when they need to make a phone call, the mask they wear when they need to pretend they’re something they’re not.
Janus is very, very good at making masks.
He never wears these. These are for Thomas. When Thomas needs help, Janus slips one of these out of the cabinet and sets it on the desk in front of the mirror. He looks at it, then at the mirror, and works. These masks are what helps Thomas.
He shuts the cabinet with a decisive click, suddenly confronted with his own face.
Janus is so good at making masks that he doesn’t even need a mask to wear one.
A mask because you’re the bad guy. A mask because you can never be trusted. A mask because when you try to be vulnerable they won’t listen. A mask because they don’t want you, they want the character that you embody to survive.
He pities the others sometimes. They don’t have these masks and they hurt. They can’t distance themselves, pull away just a little more, embody a role so that when it’s over, when they’re safe again, they can take it off and breathe. But they don’t. So they just get hurt. Over and over and over.
Janus’s lips involuntarily curl up into a snarl. The hand on the mirror closes into a fist.
They’re not supposed to get hurt. That’s not how this is supposed to work.
He’s not supposed to hurt them.
Part of him argues that he has to. If he keeps working the way he’s been working he can get right to Thomas, who is who needs the most protection. If he tries to do it their way they risk Thomas getting hurt and Janus won’t have that.
Part of him whispers that this is good for them. If he can make them a little tougher, help them get thicker skin, they’ll be safer. And then it won’t matter if they hate him. They’ll be safe. That’s all he cares about.
 The rest of him—
…well, the rest of him is currently the reason he’s having trouble looking in the mirror right now.
The problem with wearing so many masks is that it becomes harder and harder to figure what’s the mask and what’s not. And he’s gotten so good at making them that now…now he doesn’t have to think about it.
A mask for when Logan asks to debate about philosophy. A mask for when Remus wants him to help him and Roman make something new. A mask for when Patton wants to bake. A mask for when Virgil comes to him for help.
A mask for all of them. A mask for none of them.
Janus doesn’t want to wear the masks all the time. He wants them to be warm, to care, to smile when he comes into the room, or even ask where he is. He wants to laugh as Patton smears batter all over his nose accidentally. He wants to listen to Logan ramble about some new advancement in quantum gravity. He wants Virgil to come plop down next to him while everyone else is in the living room. He wants Remus to stay with him while they watch the others get into ridiculous fights over board games. He wants Roman to not be afraid to come talk to him.
 He wants.
 Janus is selfish.
 But he isn’t stupid.
He knows they don’t want him. He knows they don’t want him, even without the masks. Deep down, he knows they don’t need him either.
 But Thomas does.
So here Janus will stay, in the dark, in the cold, wearing too many masks of his own face to keep count.
—————————————————————
The Mindscape is cold. It never quite feels solid. Drafts blow in and out of the walls, through the little gaps in the floor, from places that Janus can’t find, no matter how many times he looks for them. He bundles himself up in his cloak and his hat and does his best to hold still, sink in as much warmth as he can. He sneaks up behind the others, pressing himself up near them, purring in their ears, just to snatch their body heat. They always shove him away with flustered protests and blushy little faces. They’re so adorable.
Plus, he knows that’s all he’s ever really going to get from them.
But he’s cold, goddamnit. Why do they keep the air conditioning so high in this house? Snakes are cold-blooded. They get slow. Lethargic. Hypothermic, if it gets very bad.
Janus can’t afford to be slow.
So he wears his gloves, his cape, his hat. He stands opposite the window so he can get the most sunlight. He finds the patches of warmth where none of the others will find him and he can curl up for the warmth he needs...
…and fine, maybe it’s a little more than just being cold.
The others are…touchy. Patton throws his arm around just about everyone. Bumps his hip against theirs. Pats their shoulders, squeezes their hands, kisses their cheeks. Roman sweeps people into his arms, pulls them in for hugs, keeps an arm around their waists for as long as he’s allowed. Remus can and will just tackle whoever he wants. Logan holds himself a little further away, but even he’ll lay a comforting hand on someone’s arm. Janus will admit he was shocked when Virgil started exhibiting spider characteristics. That Side is a cat and you will not convince him otherwise. And everyone knows if a cat falls asleep on you, you’re not allowed to move until it wakes up.
Not that Virgil has fallen asleep on him recently.
Janus is not too proud to admit that at first, he didn’t want their touches. He had a job to do, he didn’t need to be distracted. But now…now he does.
He sees the way they move around each other and it stings. The accidental brushes he gets from standing too close or when they aren’t thinking about it sear through layers and layers of clothing to burn into his skin. When he stays close to them—close, but not too close—his whole side begins to tingle, reaching for them, their warmth, for them. But now it’s too late. His mask is already firmly in place and they know Deceit hates being touched.
That’s another reason for the layers. For the gloves.
Janus knows that if they ever touch him directly, skin to skin, his mask will shatter. And that is too dangerous to risk. With his gloves, his cape, his hat, his masks, the only way that would happen is if one of them tried to touch his face.
And that is certainly very likely indeed.
The clothes give him a barrier. A last line of defense. No touch is better than unexpected touch.
But that doesn’t stop him from being cold.
He can tell it’s going to happen when he can’t quite close his fingers around the end of his staff in the middle of their conversation. His gloves don’t catch on the wood quite right and he has to fumble to grab it properly. He glances up. No one’s looking at him.
  Are they ever?
He tucks his hands smoothly out of sight, frantically burrowing them into his cloak to see if they’ll warm up. He locks his knees. No good. His fingers start to hurt as he flexes them. They’re still not moving faster. It’s cold.
He glances at the clock. Two minutes. He can last two minutes. Or so he thinks, until his jaw starts to clench. He clenches it harder, ignoring the protest from his neck, his shoulders, trying to make it stop. He takes a deep slow breath and tries to relax, to stop his muscles from tensing. It works, barely.
 One minute.
His hands aren’t responding properly. He can barely move his fingers. He just needs to get out of here. If he gets out of here he can get warm. He has his electric blanket, he has everything he needs. He just needs to leave.
 Thirty seconds.
The conversation draws to a close and Janus nods deeply, tossing one last barb over his shoulder as he sinks out, only to collapse in the hallway as soon as he does. A draft flows out right next to his shoulder, freezing fingers dancing up his arm, along the back of his neck, diving into his collar to snatch more of his warmth. He curses, heaves himself to his feet, and makes it to his room. It’s so cold.
Something tugs in his chest. No, no—!
“I suppose there must be a good reason for summoning me back,” Janus drawls, snapping his gloves right back into place as he appears in the living room.
Patton and Virgil stare back at him. Patton fidgets with his hands. “W-well, we, uh, I had a question for you.”
Damn. “Well.” Janus spreads his arms, trying to play off how slow he’s moving for dramatic effect. “I’m here. Ask away.”
“I, uh, a few days ago you mentioned that you didn’t feel as welcome here.” Patton looks at him with such an expression of sincerity that it makes Janus’s tongue itch. “And I wanted to know what I could do to help.”
 “Aren’t you sweet?”
Patton won’t be deterred, it seems. He stares at Janus, resolute as ever. It’s so cold in here he’s going to start slurring in a moment.
 “Janus?”
 “That is my name, yes.”
 “Are you…are you feeling alright?”
Janus gestures to himself, movements growing slower by the second. “I’m right here, aren’t I?”
 Slow. Too slow.
Patton frowns. He gives him a look. “You don’t seem like you normally are, are you sure?”
“I am entirely in one piece.”
 “That doesn’t answer my question.”
“Honey, if you’re looking for a straight answer, I’m afraid you’re looking in the wrong place.”
Virgil moves. Right, Virgil was here too. Janus is slow. Too slow. He can’t move. He can’t get away. His mask forms a bored expression on his face, quirking an eyebrow. Virgil approaches him and holds out a hand. A cold part of Janus’s chest leaps.
The lips of the mask part. “And what exactly do you intend to do with that?”
“This,” Virgil mutters, and cups the side of Janus’s face.
 Everything stops.
Distantly, he feels Virgil’s hand leave his face. Hears something about being too cold. Sees a blur of blue rush away. But all he can focus on is—
Warm. Virgil touched you. Warm. Warm. So warm. Keep the mask on. Don’t let the mask slip. Warm. If the mask slips everything will be ruined. Warm. Don’t you remember how to take the mask off? Virgil. Patton. Warm.
 “Janus? Janus!”
Janus blinks. Virgil is still standing in front of him. There’s a little wrinkle between his brows. The mask is frozen in place, iced into a neutral expression.
“Hey,” Virgil says quietly, “you’re freezing, bud. You gotta get warm.”
Janus can’t speak. The mask is so cold.
“You remember what happens when you get too cold,” Virgil continues, taking a step closer. Janus can’t move. Virgil’s frown deepens and he tilts his head. “What’s going on, Janus, you don’t normally let it get this bad.”
  Yes, Virgil, we’re aware.
“You could’ve asked, dude,” Virgil says, taking another step closer, a little exasperation mingling with the concern, “any of us.”
The mask smirks. Barely. “Yes, because I’m sure everyone would be so willing to cuddle me so I could steal their body heat.”
“You don’t know that.” The mask doesn’t move. Virgil glances over his shoulder. When he speaks next, his voice is lowered to a whisper.
“You don’t have to keep that on right now, Jan,” he says quietly, “it’s okay. It’s just me. I know you. You can…you know. Emote and stuff.”
Janus huffs a laugh. It’s weak.
“You ever wear a mask so long you forget how to take it off?”
 Vigil pauses. “Huh?”
“Ever pretended to be something for so long you forget which is real and which isn’t?” Janus’s smile turns sad. “Made yourself believe it too?”
Virgil’s eyes close for a second. When he opens them, the concern in his gaze takes the last of the warm breath from Janus’s lungs. “Does this have anything to do with…?” He waves in Janus’s direction.
Janus nods, slowly, so slowly. “I can’t. Because I’ve been…I’ve been trained out of it. I built my masks to hide behind. And now I can’t take them off.”
“And we haven’t been good about helping you do that, huh.” He sounds so tired. He’s been through so much…
 “I’m…”
The mask won’t let him apologize.
Like they would ever accept it.
“No, no,” Virgil says, “don’t apologize. You aren’t to blame for what you’ve been put through.”
  Oh, Virgil…
Virgil glances over his shoulder. Then he shakes his head. “Just…look, go.”
 “What?”
“I know this isn’t the time to talk about stuff. You’re not in any sort of shape to do that and Patton will understand. Go get warm.” He gives Janus a pointed look. “You take care of yourself first, okay?”
He tries. He goes back to his room and buries himself in blankets, in pillows, in more layers than he can stand. The pressure is good but it’s still so cold. The weight of the electric blanket is nothing compared to the warmth of Virgil’s hand. Everything in here smells sterile, clinical, detached. It’s all so cold.
  You take care of yourself.
The last sentence rings through his head late at night. He wants. But everyone’s probably asleep by now, and god knows they need to sleep. Surely it’ll be alright if he just goes to the living room? That’s not too far, right?
There’s a fire going in the fireplace—since when did they have a fireplace? And there’s someone sitting on the couch. Hmm. Maybe if…if he’s quiet, if he doesn’t make too much noise, he can slip in and soak up some of the warmth.
 Virgil turns around.
“Hey, Janus,” he murmurs, standing, and comes over to him. “Can’t sleep?”
Janus shakes his head. It’s warm in here, but he’s still cold. Virgil can see that, apparently.
“Here,” he says, handing him a cup of tea that appeared out of thin air, “drink. It’ll warm you up.”
Janus takes it cautiously. Isn’t it Virgil’s? There’s no way Virgil would’ve know Janus was coming…right?
“This is my third one, figure I should let you catch up first.”
He gestures to the couch, an encouraging smile on his lips.
 “Sit. C’mon”
Janus does, sinking into the plush couch and cradling the warm mug in his hands. The couch groans as Virgil sits next to him. He can feel Virgil just out of reach, just there…
“I like watching the fire,” comes a low voice from next to him as he sips the tea. “Helps me think. Or stop thinking.”
He keeps talking in that low voice and the warm tea flows through Janus, sapping the cold slowly away from his body.
Distantly, he feels someone steering him down onto the couch, and heavy arms around him.
“Or maybe you just need a cuddle. Go to sleep, Janus.”
—————————————————————
 “ — stop twitching, Remus! You’ll make a mistake!”
“Stop tugging his arm all over the place and then you won’t.”
“Will you two pipe the fuck down? You’re gonna wake him up.”
 “Says the loudmouth!”
 “Roman, stop it.”
 “Stop moving his arm!”
What is…? He’s lying on something. It’s warm, really warm. It smells like…coffee, makeup, and…cinnamon? He shifts slightly, and oh he slept on his neck wrong. A low groan escapes his throat.
His pillow stiffens. “Shit. He’s awake.”
 “Good going, Remus.”
 “You were the one yelling!”
“Shut the fuck up, both of you.” The chest underneath him vibrates. “Shh, snake-face, go back to sleep. You’re alright. Go back to sleep.”
Janus shifts again, trying to look around, but he’s held down by another strong arm. A hand cards itself through his hair—where’s his hat? “Shh, be still, buddy, you’re okay. Can’t we get you back to sleep?”
“What…’s going on?” His tongue feels heavy, swelling up in his mouth.
“I believe the chances of getting him back to sleep will increase if you tell him what you’re doing.”
It’s…Logan? He appears, fuzzy but definitely there, over the back of the couch. Janus tries to turn to make it easier to see him but his right arm is pinned and he can’t move—
“Easy, J, easy, shh, shh, you’re okay, you’re safe, just keep your arm nice and still, okay?” Virgil, it’s Virgil he’s lying on, runs his hand through his hair again. “I’m pretty sure Roman would pitch a fit.”
“Hah.” Roman snorts from somewhere close to the ground. “If this got ruined, yours would be too.”
“If you hadn’t insisted on going last,” Remus says, “this wouldn’t’ve been an issue.”
And then he feels it. Something is drawn sharply across his right wrist.
“Shh, shh, Janus, breathe, breathe, you’re okay, damnit, Princey, stop! You’re making him freak out!”
It’s gone, the contact is gone. His arm is still hanging over the edge of the couch but it’s held there by Virgil’s arm and another hand.
“Hey there, Snakey.” Remus appears over Virgil’s shoulder. “You’re okay. We’re just making sure you’re okay.”
Roman snorts. “There’s something wrong with how you phrased that.”
Then suddenly Patton appears out of nowhere and doesn’t surprise him at all. Luckily, or unluckily, Janus is far too exhausted and disoriented to react more than rucking up the fabric of Virgil’s hoodie a little. Patton looks at the couch.
“There isn’t room, Pop-star,” Virgil says, lazily stretching so his bulk takes up all of it, moving slow enough so Janus isn’t jostled too much. Then Virgil yelps and their lower bodies are lifted and he can feel the couch sag under another body.
 “What the hell, Pat.”
“Now there’s room.” Patton reaches up and ruffles Virgil’s hair.
There are so many people and it’s warm but why are they all here? Did he miss something? Does he need to leave?
“Looks good,” Patton says, interrupting his train of thought, “it’s coming along well.”
Logan clears his throat. “Would someone like to inform Janus about what exactly ‘this’ is?”
“Oh, right, sorry, Snakey,” Remus says, crouching back down, “let’s show you.”
Virgil turns over slowly, lifting his arm and using the leverage to shift Janus onto his chest. “Jeez, Janus, you’re light. Patton, have we been feeding him enough?”
“I suspect there’s been a lack of communication, kiddo.”
“Now is not the time to yell at him, Patton,” Logan says quietly.
“I’m not yelling! But yes, now is not the time.”
Virgil coaxes his head to one side, and Roman lifts his arm by the back of his hand.
 Janus’s mouth drops open.
There are little animals drawn on his right arm, from his wrist to his elbow. There’s a navy cat, simple and clean, near the vein. A light blue frog with little glasses. A purple and black spider. A green octopus with large black tentacles. And an unfinished red dragon right near his wrist.
“If I could finish,” Roman asks softly.
“Alright, calm down, here.” Remus lowers his arm and holds it steady. Roman puts the brush back to his arm and starts painting again. Virgil and Remus start arguing about something, probably, but he can’t focus on anything besides the soft bristles of the brush on his arm, the rumble of Virgil’s chest, and the warmth of the weight on his legs.
Logan stands behind his head. “You don’t need to wear a mask here, Janus,” he says softly, “not unless you want to.”
No one else hears him except for Patton. He gives Janus’s leg a squeeze.
 It’s warm. It’s so warm.
He wants to watch as Roman paints the dragon but he’s tired but he doesn’t want to sleep yet…not just yet.
Patton reaches towards his face. His finger lands on his forehead and drags gently down the bridge of his nose.
 What…?
 Oh.
As he follows his touch, Janus’s eyes drift closed.
 It’s so warm.
And a warm hand on his cheek wipes the last of the mask away.

I really like your fic recs and I don’t really keep very up to date with the latest sanders sides stuff on ao3 so, favorite fics from the past week?
Oh uh... lets see today is 8/5/2020... and I’ll do my fav fics that have just been posted or updated this week:
Swept Away - Part Three of my favorite Sirens au, where Logan gets swept up in a storm and wonders if anyone will miss him (they will).
The Variables -  Logan bought a house in the middle of nowhere so he could avoid having to ever talk to anyone else ever again. The ghosts have other plans.
You Can Picani Family You Want - Emile fosters two kids and quickly learns he’ll do anything to see them smile.
Atypical Destiny - LAMP soulmates are determined to make their polyamory work, even if no one else thinks it will.
‘Cause Every Time We Touch, I Get This Feeling - Touch starved Janus falls for touchy-feely Patton.
Rays on My Skin - Virgil is six when he discovers that he has multiple soulmates and absolutely none of them speak his language. Oh and also three of them don’t know he exists.
If You Give a Side a Lion - Remus and Roman have some things to work out, but first it looks like theyre gonna have to save the universe, along with three other guys, an alien prince, and his assistant. A Voltron AU that I didn’t know I needed.
The Story of Emile the Seer - Emile is unfortunately born with the ability to see the future. Theres a lot of awful things people would do about that.
Alleyway - Logan finds a baby in a dumpster in an alley and decides to keep it.
Slower Than Words - Virgil can’t see. Patton can’t hear. But theyre stuck in a cell together while people conduct unethical experimentation on them, so maybe they can learn to communicate?
Old Scars, Future Hearts - Virgil has a problem asking for help when he’s overwhelmed, but this time? This time the others are already angry at him. And they wont want to help him if they’re angry at him, right?
the shapes in the silence - Virgil turns into a cat-sized Dragon when he gets overwhelmed which only becomes a problem when Patton finds him hiding in the pantry and thinks he’s a figment from imagination and not another side. And if the Light sides like him so much as a dragon....well maybe he should stay that way.
breathing and other rhythms that used to be easy - A Nightmare brings Virgil back to the dark side of the mindscape, just to check, just to make sure, just to see that Deceit and Remus are still breathing and thats it. In and out. They won’t even know he was there.
Road Trips and Missing Persons - Patton goes out for groceries and doesn’t come back home because he gets kidnapped by a child with a knife. Virgil is on the run from his crazy mother after she killed his father. Janus will do anything to get to his brother before his mother does. Remy isn’t actually dead. And Logan will strangle his entire family for not answering their phones.
Bounty - A sequel to Abduction in the Space Family series: Space, aliens and Virgil is a human in the middle of it all. Excellent series, 20/10 and I will cry about it. thanks.
The Curse of Hanahaki - In which Remus plays himself by cursing Imagination so that anyone who falls in love will cough up flowers. Aka Hanahaki but with a tangible plot.
fall out of in love with me - Deceit asks Remus to make him a potion to dilute his intense feelings for Virgil before they crush him at the absolute worst possible time for Virgil.
A Wager. - Virgil meets professional gambler and they mage a wager they both come out winning in.
i’ll sink for you - Deceit can hypnotize anyone, but Virgil is all to willing to be his plaything.
Save the Moment - Patton takes pictures of everything. Janus notices more than he should.
Lavender - Patton can’t handle the sound of Logan and Roman’s argument, but thankfully Janus steps up to the plate.
Mind Over Matter - Being a human in Space is just asking for trouble. Being forced to fight in fighting ring just makes Virgil another sad statistic. However, choosing not to fight his clearly harmless opponent....that makes him different.
The Apartment - Virgil moves into his first apartment and becomes best friends with the elderly man who lives next door and tells fond stories of his numerous grandkids that can never seem to make time for him. Virgil is unaware this is how to get himself adopted into a new family.
sweet tea in the summer - Roman and Patton are the sweetest of lovers through the years.
How two exasperated doctors adopted three robots - Rival Scientists Janus and Logan both have the great idea to see what their company is hiding on the same night. They were not prepared for the answer, but they can definitely get used to it. (Bickering Loceit? uh hell yeah.)
Breathe Out - Virgil will become minion for one chance to get out of the closet, thanks. aka: The other darksides are terrible, and Janus thinks that he and Virgil might be able to work well together, and somehow that puts Virgil on track becoming a Light side whether he wants to or not. (And I gush because everything this author writes is amazing)
The Debate - Part of The Other Side of the Mirror au, where Janus, Remus, and Virgil are Thomas’s core sides and big bad scary Logan shows up to ruin everything. Except that he’s actually helping and Janus might have to reconsider if the other sides are actually as bad as he’s made them out to be.
And It Fell Away - Patton and Virgil are part of the Earth Kingdom army. Janus is part of the Fire Kingdom infantry. It seems that the only thing they all have in common are their need to escape the current battle and then the war itself, if just to save their own lives.
Come Alive - Patton tries to end it all but not-so-friendly vampire Janus stops him. Now there’s just an agreement: Patton spends one year as a vampire in the underworld city for the supernatural, and if they decide living still isn’t worth it they can take a stake to themselves, but...Janus is willing to bet they can find at least one person whos worth it. Ft: everyone falls in love with Patton at first sight, as it should be.
by the book - Librarian Virgil runs the adult section of the library, but his most interesting visitor is the tiny child who talks too fast and has really super attractive dads.
Pen Pal - Logan’s roommates all get together and Logan doesn’t think he has a place there with them, so he withdraws and turns to his pen pal for company.
Wedding Crashers -  While standing at the alter for his arranged marriage to a princess he will never love, Logan doesn’t think his really lovers are coming for him. He’s pleasantly surprised.
You Haunt Me And I Like It - Ghost Virgil has had a lot of roommates before without ever needing to show himself, but this one is just too skeptical for him to leave alone.
Wow that is a lot more than I thought I had!

Sanders Sides D&D 2
Ooh fresh take: Jan is virge’s patron and that’s why there’s beef
Also: Jan is some sort of fae related being
Jan: i need you to do something for me Virgil: no Janus: that's not how this works!! Virgil: watch me :P
Okay so I was thinking of Patton as a cleric cuz ooh healer however, Patton as a Druid makes me so happy
I want logan to have Rage
(Also that could tie nicely in an arc about Logan learning to accept feelings)
but barbarian logan is going to be a scholar again and is gonna be smort
bc hes logan. he cant be not smart
Oh I figured he’d be the bbeg that eventually joins the party (hurt/comfort baybee!)(Remus)
he was the bbeg but then joined the party as a bardbarian or just a bard
plus, actual bard who accidentally casts vicious mockery instead of bardic inspiration
Side note: please include a scene where Remus attempts to seduce the dragon
also with this second au, i can start them at like level 5 so people can multiclass
Pat as cleric/druid
gasp logan as artificer/barbarian
janus sorcerer/rogue
because basically everything but alchemist would work well with barbarian, but alchemist feels very Logan
bc mad scientist being actually mad
alchemist logan making an experimental potion and going "here im not sure what this does but im sure its fine! someone drink it"
Remus does it voluntarily, but Logan usually tries to get Roman to drink it
Virgil will occasionally drink it when he's on his last legs and is just like.....100% done with the party
remus as a wild magic path barbarian and just fucking teleporting or doing something equally ridiculous whenever he rages
Oh my god Remus with rage would be a force to be reckoned with
You gotta describe the first time he goes into a rage really dramatically
obviously virgil is trying to "escape" his patron, Janus (really just do whatever he says to not do out of spite)
Eldritch knight roman
Feywild warlock virgil
hey so in the second d&d au, should roman and remus be actual full siblings but like remus went darkside and like romans just trying to get back at him for putting a dark stain on the family name
hey hey hey what about warforged Logan? (essentially a robot)(so like "i dont feel anything" becoming real)
okay hear me out. elf roman and elf base simic hybrid remus. so like maybe the reason remus went darkside was experimentation? so like. hes elf but special
FALLEN AASIMAR VIRGIL
virgil just transforming in the middle of a combat scenario and like his eyes turn into black pits and flightless skeletal wings appear on his back and like everyone near him has to make a charisma check and like he deals extra necrotic damage
Pat is the one human stuck in a band of misfits
so with it, roman would be a full elf, and remus would be an elf that has tentacles bc octopus
So robot logan
i meant literally he doesnt feel anything
like he has all the emotions, but he doesnt physically feel the need to like eat or sleep or stuff like that
he just.....he pretend he don't have the feelings.....but he do.....he feel so much and he hides it all in his littol mechanical heart <3
plus......if he warforged, then like.....AC huge
he stands in front of friends.....he protecc...."no, i don't have feelings, i am physically incapable of affection" but he do!! he do! he take hits for them because he do!! he care so much
Bro he spouts all this and then he uses a reaction to dive in front of someone and everyone’s just like oh
LIKE ROMAN STILL BEING MEAN TO LO BC HE THINKS HE DOESNT HAVE FEELINGS BECAUSE HE DOESNT HAVE A HEART BUT HE DOES
hey hey everyone needs to grow
and logan standing up for himself and other people stepping in and saying no stop thats not right
plus if canon wont give me roman facing the consequences of his actions towards Logan......
but also Roman learning how to properly handle his own emotions and how he interacts with others
logan who doesn't view himself as anything more than a machine to be useful to others
the party giving logan love and affection until he slowly learns his own worth as a person
Roman and Logan not getting along (maybe Roman has a Lore reason to distrust Warforged, maybe not) and slowly learning to trust each other
when Logan is feeling real down or having some issue, Roman actually comes through to help him, showing how far both characters have come
Okay yes but also can we please give Roman more confidence than canon? Like I’m sooooo sick of low self esteem being played for laughs or just being really really sad
this boy is going on a mission and will slap his brother upside the head and tell him to shut tf up remus youre not a monster just come back home and he will do it alone if need be
OKAY SO WHAT IF HE ORIGINALLY WENT ON THE QUEST JUST TO STOP REMUS ONCE AND FOR ALL BC ROMAN THOUGHT HE WAS A MONSTER, BUT ALONG THE WAY, AND AFTER LOGAN, HE CAME TO REALIZE THAT NO, JUST BECAUSE REMUS (AND LOGAN) ARE DIFFERENT, THEY ARENT MONSTERS, JUST DIFFERENT
AND LIKE IN THE FINAL PUSH TO MAKE REMUS JOIN BACK WITH HIS BROTHER, ROMAN IS PROJECTING HIS OWN FEELINGS ONTO REMUS AND EVERYONE IS LIKE WOW BRO YOU GOOD THERE, BUT ITS A BIG MOMENT FOR LOGAN, ROMAN, AND REMUS
im unsure as to how, but it happened when he was an older teen/young adult. a simic scientist either picked him (read: kidnapped), or remus volunteered (potentially to escape court life, unaware what exactly the experiment was going to do to him physically
bc also, remus and roman are royalty
so like. how best to get at the nobes/royalty/rich famous people than by turning their kid into a monster
wait, wait, wait, because i'm lowkey a sucker for this trope, but i'm not sure if it fits Remus: the experiments left him with some fairly significant physical pain/uncontrolled magical reactions. through some combo of trying to deal with that and trying find a cure for his pain, he keeps like....absolutely wrecking random towns on accident but also deliberately wrecking certain places looking for either a) vengeance on the guy(s) responsible or b) someone who can make the pain stop
SO LIKE. WILD MAGIC BARBARIAN DOING WEIRD SHIT TO HIM WHENEVER HE RAGES
AND LOGAN COULD MAYBE HELP WITH THE PAIN AND SHIT
BC ALCHEMY
Yknow, for simplification purposes, we could say the True Bbeg just gave Remus lycanthropy and Remus hasn’t managed to control it yet
lycanthropy but simic shit?
Mr. I-Don't-Have-Feelings sees the poor dude in pain and also Roman in emotional pain from seeing his brother in pain and is absolutely like "i must resolve this like right now, immediately" because he definitely doesn't hate seeing his friend suffering, or his friend's brother whom he's just met
he definitely doesn't relate at all to the idea of someone else shaping your body and absolutely does not sympathize with Remus's plight
i was thinking the grappling thing and either manta glide or the ability to breathe underwater for the simic stuff, but like he doesnt have control over the tentacles yet?
Manta glide seems like we could have fun battle scenes
he just jumps off a cliff to avoid mushy talk/dealing with his actions/roman
Roman: Remus just because you're a monster and though i wish i was an only child-- Remus, jumping off a cliff: byyeeeeee Patton: Roman, look what you did! Virgil: dammit jan what did you do? Janus: why do you think i had anything to do with that? im a fae, not a genie Logan, thinking: what an asshole. i wish i could do that
oh my god Logan always being tired mentally bc he cant sleep
Oh my gosh I love that. So Remus got kidnapped super young, (from royal family) they never found him, as a result Roman had to grow up super fast (side effect: lowkey inconsiderate and forgets to ask for others input). Meanwhile, Remus was experimented on by True Bbeg and came out with some trauma and super cool additives
yep! chronic pain and ptsd and all sorts of other shit!
so like, simic hybrids are usually created when they're adults. but what if the true bbeg decided to go younger to see what would happen, and thats why remus has chronic pain and stuff
he was still growing when his genes were spliced, so hes dealing with growth plates shifting and his body maturing and puberty and body changes and stuff
Pat is going to have a lighthearted story. Im saying that now. Hes the one without all the baggage
Sure, but his parents have to lowkey be the really kind people who are surprisingly always down for violence
everyone: multiple crises Pat: y'all need help Pat: love and affection in spades for his little band of misfits
Patton (which I think would be pretty simple, honestly he might just see danger and jump in and suddenly everyone in the party has Feelings)
Logan
Mhm. So how did he grow up? Was he just poof created? Wait
What if he was created by the king?
To make up for remuss disappearance
wait, wait....angst......he was created to fight (hence the barbarian stuff) but alchemy is his real passion
wait so like. a second son???
hes there to replace remus?
Yea! (But like in a sympathetic grief way) But that causes a bit of a complex in Roman and ergo Roman and Logan have a bit of a beef
okay so like. hes there to be a companion for roman, and like take remus' place, even though hes not actually in line for the throne?
LOGAN AS A KNIGHT
and just......the conflict of being created for a specific purpose (plus being, you know, robot and technically incapable of deviated from said purpose) vs the fact that he actually does have independent consciousness and like....wants to live life for himself
the parents made Logan a barbarian in hopes that him and Roman would be safe
okay. so logan was created by the king with the sole purpose to take remus' place as romans brother/companion, and to be his like guard? protector? and fight, but logan wants to be an alchemist and study shit
wait, wait, wait.....thinks about Asimov's Laws
he.....his first operative is protect (specifically protect Roman)
oh man. so hes literally just a shield
his second level operative is just like.....care for Roman's emotional well-being, but he doesn't really know emotions because he was kinda just spawned and nobody told him how
and he just....kind of....lets Roman treat him like garbage and take all his grief out on him because he's staunchly in denial of both having feelings or knowing how they work
Anyway Yea so Logan created by royal family in place of Remus which created angst between the two “brothers” and identity issues in Logan. Their arcs are learning how to healthily process emotions plus Roman apology and Logan commits to alchemy
So big question: why did virge make a deal?
Tricked
he gave janus his name
and instead of janus like killing him or whatever the fae do to people who break the rules of dealing with the fae, jan was like. hey. i'll give you magic, but do what i say
Janus is lawful neutral, but leans towards being selfish
hes self serving, but he has a strong set of morals and rules he follows
Tho I want to Virgil to also not be pushover so let’s say loophole happened and Jan has to stay with virge (hence why Jan is a part of the party)
okay so a couple of the rules are dont give a fae your true name and don't try to figure out their true name
So
what if virgil accidentally gave up part of his true name, and got stuck in the deal, but then figured out janus' true name
so in the same vein that janus had control over virgil, virgil now has more control over janus
he still gets his magic from janus, so he cant break free completely, but virgil has more freedom and can occasionally tell janus what to do or when to shove it
there should a running gag where virge can explain how he learned Jan’s true name but Jan can make something loudly censor him every time
(he learned his name bc once he heard janus practicing his evil genius voice and talking to himself in the mirror and janus said his true name)
so maybe janus sent virgil on the quest to protect a town or stop something related to remus, but virgil dragged him along
he might just be trying to protect a town thats close to a ley line, or something fae-related, and they just happen upon the whole thing
janus is selfish. but lawful vs chaotic is where he comes through, in morals vs doing whatever. janus has a strong set of loyalties to the fae, and to himself
so like....Remus is just too close to Jan's stuff and he wants to take him down
Virgil is just like....exhausted and said "fine, but if i gotta do this, you're coming, too"
or at least figure out a way to protect his place, even if it doesnt mean fully taking out remus. just moving him would work for jan
Janus: virgilllllllllll hes going to mess up my magic storage locker Virgil: Jan, its empty Janus: but its mine
Yea. Remus attacks a city away from the fae: Jan: Yknow I’m gonna sit this one out Virge: oh no you don’t, get up
Or
Janus vs Janice
so his real name is Janus, but Virgil calls him Janice
Virgil: This is Janice Janice: with a “U-S” Virgil: mhm, sure Jan
I'm a big fan of just like any of the old theory name being various aliases for Jan
Damien, Dante, Ethan, Declan, etc, etc

Thoughts on intruality?? Rant away :D
ok THANK U now i have an excuse to write the essay i've had in my head for the past month about these boys:
So for anyone who doesn't know (which should be no one at this point) remus and patton are my absolute favorite characters and i kin both of them to varying degree. And what do we do when we like two separate things? add 'em together and obsess over the sum, obviously!!! so that's essentially how i gave myself intruality brainrot. and here's why u should get it, too:
1. they r both impulsive and have Very Little Regard for health in the face of, like, having a good time. Granted, in Remus' case its more for bodily mutilation than just, eating poorly or w/e, but the vibes are similar nonetheless. i feel like remus could just properly bring out more of the Chaos that we all know Patton is capable of, and really, isn't that what they both deserve?
2. As much as remus would be a bad (fun) influence on patton, i dont doubt he'd have a good impact on him too!! remus is like anti-repression incarnate, and even if patton's made *some* progress since Moving On, he's still... rough. with the whole emotional vulnerability thing. He needs somebody to encourage him to hold Absolutely Nothing back, not even sadness!
3. i hate talking about religion but i just gotta mention. listen. there are unmistakable religious undertones to this relationship and i think thats very hot of them.
 4. theyre both eldritch monsters. no im not joking. lilypadton and cephalopodic remus, match made in heaven.
 5. ok look patton has this problem with being Too Much, or at least feeling that way- hence shutting down on his negative emotions and apologizing for being overeager and getting told off for being too enthusiastic- and remus would 100% be able to handle him and make him feel, you know, less shitty for being the way he is. Which he needs and deserves!!! and also he'd probably realize along the way that he can relate to remus more than previously assumed, like- the idea of being pushed down and reprimanded because of feelings and thoughts that you aren't in control over, they can both understand. its only that remus and patton had different responses to this treatment (and now this is a little bit of theory territory)- patton tries to comply and be what others want him to be, and bend over backwards for other ppl's comfort. remus, to put it nicely, Does Not Do That. he doubles down and actively *tries* to be upsetting for attention, in revolt of getting repressed over and over again. Both r really extreme reactions to unfair treatment, and this is one of the areas I think these two could balance each other out and maybe undo some of all that emotional damage.
6. i think it'd be funny if remus claimed Step-dad Authority over Virgil Logan & Roman and used it only for evil <3
7. Thematically, i feel like it makes sense for them at least to become friends, considering how patton was more-or-less the first to befriend both Virgil and now Janus. it is just in his nature to acquire more people to care for.
8. they both seem very tactile, so. cuddling <3
I could definitely come up with more reasons but yeah, in summary- intruality is based and everyone should ship it. Thanks for the ask!!!
(*Send me an ask with “Thoughts on ____?” and I’ll respond!!)

hiii!! ok so i was thinking abt this au yesyerday and i was like “:O how cute would it be if lo and pat got married???” now idk if thats ever a thing theyd do but imagine them getting married and virgil throwing the flowers!! he could be the flower baby!!!! just imagine ro walking him down the aisle (to keep him safe bc hes the best big brother ever) while hes gently tossing lil flowers and giggling 🥺 yEs i know he cant walk well but lemme have this fjjjdksjdjdj -💚
okay i can't imagine this being a legal wedding BUT roman arranging a surprise garden wedding for them........
like little prince has been working on this for WEEKS since pat and lo essentially come out to the boys as dating each other
and he let baby vee in on it too! but only in the last week because he didnt want vee to spoil it but he really needed help making the decorations
actually this is the first time roman is little and virgil is big and they interact!! virgil is a bit anxious and stunted with little prince but essentially he just treats roman the same and its goes fine, it's actually easier to get along with him like this in some ways because when they're both big they just bicker
(before you ask yes i am writing a fic where virgil tries out caregiving and yes its as disasterous as romans attempts but in a different way)
when the day of the wedding comes roman convinces patton to leave baby vee with logan for a bit and roman sneakily offers to do pattons makeup
and after some pink glittery LOL surprise flavoured lip gloss and roman making a flower crown for his dad, he guides him into the garden - patton weakly argues that its too late to be playing outside because the sun is setting but really he cant deny that adorable smile on romans face
they get outside and patton is stunned because the patio is covered in origami flowers in all colours of the rainbow, and theres strings of them snaking up the gazebo railings and electric candles lining the pathway
and it all culminates in a large archway of intertwined branches and origami flowers at the end of the patio, framing the pink and orange sunset in the sky
'roman, sweetheart, this is gorgeous'
but patton hasnt got much more time to stand in awe because roman is pushing him eagerly to stand in the archway and then runs off. and patton doesnt think much of it - to be honest he's just amazed that roman had made all of this and takes out his phone to take lots of pictures of the wonderful scene
and then he hears logan's shocked voice: 'roman... what is the meaning of this?'
patton slips his phone back into his khakis pocket and turns back to see logan with virgil on his hip standing in the doorway
roman is smiling as wide as ever and looking between pat and lo and holding a basket of flower petals - on closer inspection later patton realises its torn pieces of the rainbow origami paper
and it doesn't click until roman is prying virgil's hand off of logan's shirt and pushing the basket into his hand despite the babys little whines 'vee come on, we talked about this. you need to be the flower boy!'
and suddenly pattons heart is in his throat and he looks up at logan who is redfaced and staring at him with wide eyes
but neither of them stop it
after a bit more coaxing from roman virgil takes the basket and roman shoves logans shoulder
'mom you gotta put him down you're not allowed up the aisle yet'
and logan is dumbfounded and just does as hes told, his eyes not leaving patton's face
and roman very very carefully walks his little brother down the aisle - it takes a while despite it only being about 20 feet of distance because virgil is wobbly, but roman is a very protective big brother and has a firm hold around his shoulders. he stops them every few steps and whispers to vee and with his other hand he helps vee pick some flower petals and throw them on the path
baby vee starts to get excited by the pretty colours and the fluttery petals and by the time they have reached patton everyone is smiling at the sweet giggles coming from the baby as he tips the basket over to make the rest of the petals fall onto patton's crocs
'what a sweet little flower bud' patton cooes and picks virgil up - the baby buries his face in papa's shoulder with a blush
'mom n-now now now now you gotta come down the the aisle!!' roman stutters, literally bouncing on his toes and squealing with excitement when logan chuckles with a blush and then takes the first step forward
patton could not be paid to look away from logan's begrudging pout which so so obviously tried to conceal his shy smile (and thoroughly failed)
it feels like minutes before logan reaches his side, but patton knows it can't be more than a few seconds
when they're standing next to each other with virgil on pattons hip and roman giggling with excitement in front of them in the archway, logan and patton get so shy and blushy
logans cheeks are red and he's smiling a little and can't quite meet pattons eyes
and patton is biting his lip to hide how it trembles and his eyes are wide and his belly is FULL of butterflies and he knows he might be swaying a bit too fast for the baby on his hip but he just cannot keep still
'dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to marry mommy and daddy,' roman said very formally. 'they're both really nice and fun and pretty and theyre the bestest. if anyone here objects to this, then you're dumb. *whispering* vee do you have the rings?'
patton looks down at the baby in his arms who pouts and whines and points at ro
'oh yeah i took them!' roman gasps, fumbling in the pocket of his shorts
patton and logan didn't know what they had been expecting - plastic toy rings perhaps? maybe even those haribo sweets? - but they definitely had no idea that roman would reveal two very real wedding rings, one gold, one silver
and then its very serious, its very tangible, it's very real
the caregivers look up to each other both with a question in their eyes: should we really do this?
and its the first time their eyes have met directly for more than half a second since logan appeared in the doorway
and as they gaze at each other the questions in their eyes fade and melt into soft adoration
they smile at each other and look back to roman expectantly
'do you mommy take daddy to be your morally wedded husband?'
'i do' logan says confidently, and patton has to remind himself to breathe
'do you daddy take mommy to be your logically wedded husband?'
'yes!' patton giggles quite hysterically, and has to reign himself in to manage a breathy 'i-i do!'
roman positively beams. 'eep!! th then i now pronounce you husbands!! Now n Now NOW KISS!!'
patton and logan grin at each other for a couple of seconds before logan gently eases pattons jaw up with gentle fingers and locks their lips. its an awkward position because patton is still mainly facing away from logan with virgil clinging onto his opposite side, but they dont care, the kiss is just as magical as every one they have ever shared and will ever share

self-destruction pt.1
(welcome to a new series! this will be angsty... but thats to be accepted by now...) tags: @idkanameatall warnings: self-hurt, crying, tears. general angst thrown out the window words:4646 next: n/a
-janus wakes up to a voice in his head he hasnt heard since the day he was created. things can only go down hill from there, cant they?-
She asked me, "Son, when I grow old, Will you buy me a house of gold? And when your father turns to stone, Will you take care of me?"
Nothing had been okay for a while. And no one had realised how much it had been affecting a certain side. the split… Virgil leaving… Remus leaving…
And now he was alone. Something he wished he never was. it had hurt to wake up each morning and make breakfast, only to call on Remus to remember that he was gone. he didn’t know how long he cried when the deep green door wasn’t in its place. The three dark sides had promised each other that no one would be left behind… yet… here he was.
Alone, cold and done. The lines on his arms showing the pain that seemed to break over the surface. maybe that’s why it hadn’t been such a surprise when he woke up late one day, a heavy weight draping over him.
He had laid there for a while before standing up to at least make himself look presentable despite the fact no one was there… old habits die hard.
And when he looked into the mirror. He had been surprised. His once shiny brown hair was duller, grey streaks mixed in, making him look like he had aged years over night. even his scales had matched his grey hair, just darker… his eye was still yellow. Just duller.
He stared at his reflection curiously. Reaching up and running his had along his scales. He flinched as he felt how cold they were. Not warm like they used to be. But now ice cold.
Then he froze in place. A small voice. One he had not heard since the day he was created. But it had stuck with him. And it spoke something that sent a shiver down his back.
“I’m sorry self-destruction,”
And just like that…it was gone.
Had that really been what had happened… had his core shifted? Become something new? this… wasn’t like a split. He would have known if there was one present. Anyone would have.
A weak smile grew on his face. he truly had changed. There was no way the others could trust him when he looked even more like a villain.
he looked around his room. Nothing had changed much to his confusion. Everything was still bright yellow and pitch black.
His eyes landed on his hat. He walked over and picked it up. he brought it up to his chest and held it tight. it was a gift. From the one person who hadn’t deliberately left him. The one gift he had ever gotten… and it had been from Romulus.
He placed it back on his vanity. It was time to retire the hat… things were changing. And maybe it was time to start from fresh. Completely.
“just listen to me!” he jumped at the voice that screamed in his head with such agony. this… was Logan’s voice? What?
He felt himself sinking down before he knew what was happening. Drawn like a moth to a flame. His mind reeling from the sudden noise and overwhelming sensation of sadness that had swept over him.
--
When he arrived. he had been rather surprised. He was in Logan’s room. The walls covered in graphs and papers. It was bigger than his room. Almost double.
His eyes landed on a figure hunched over at a desk. The light sound of tears made his heart ache. But… that was it. he didn’t seem to care as much as he used to. Maybe it was the lack of feeling in his chest.
“Logan?” he said. the logical side seemed to tense at the spoken word. “Logan, are you alright?” Janus said as he made his way over, trying to avoid knocking over the several towers of books.
--
Logan took a breath and looked over to where the deceitful side was. he blinked and rubbed his eyes… what the… what had happened?
He wasn’t sure what to focus on really.
His hair, scales, eye or the thin lines on his arms that were scabbed and fading. “Janus… what happened to you?” he said as he stared at the other. “that’s not why I’m here,” Janus stated coldly, sending a shiver up Logan’s spine, “I want to know if you’re alright.”
“I… I am fine Janus, I assure you?” “really then?” he said as his lips twitched up, “so you’re not bothered by the fact the others wont listen to you then?”
Logan froze as he turned back to his computer. “what?” his head snapped over to look at the other.
“you’re being ignored by everyone… and its causing you stress. But instead of facing it, you’re over working yourself,” Janus stated. “why do you care deceit,” he spat back. “one, that’s not my title… two because I care. If Thomas’s logic burned himself out due to over working, things could get bad. That and despite the fact you say you have no emotions; there you were not just five minuets ago crying due to the others not listening and messing up the schedule.”
Logan was at a loss for words. He glared at the snake. “falsehood,” he said as he stood up, “im logic. Emotions don’t matter to me. they only get in the way. if this is an attempt to make me join the dark side, I suggest you leave.” he glared at the other. Anger boiling in his chest.
“go talk to the others,” Janus muttered as he cast his eyes away, “tell them that they are making you work over time. That’s all I want to say.”
The small smile was replaced with a blank stare. And he was gone just as quickly as he had come. leaving a puzzled Logan in place. Wondering one thing. what had he meant by deceit no longer being his title…
She asked me, "Son, when I grow old, Will you buy me a house of gold? And when your father turns to stone, Will you take care of me?"
Janus sunk to his knees when he arrived back in his room. Silent gasps filled the air as tears poured from his eyes. he thought that maybe Logan would be able to see past all he had done. Think logically about why he was there in the first place.
He guessed wrong. And the words that had fallen out of Logan’s mouth were like knives to his soul. He would be telling the truth when he said that it had taken so much energy not to break down at his words then and there.
Why had it hurt so much? was it because after several weeks of being alone, that was the first thing anyone had said to him? or was it because of his new core… he didn’t know. But he just wanted to stop crying.
it had taken half an hour before he stopped crying. He moved himself off the floor and onto his bed. he laid sprawled out, weakly holding onto the blanket under him. Burying into the fluff and warmth.
Little to no energy left. The lack of sleep from the previous night getting to him, making it hard to keep his eyes open. soon he caved in, grasping onto the sleep.
--
Logan had been concerned, the more he thought about what Janus had said. and it was slowly getting to him. “Logan? Are you alright?” Patton asked.
Ah. He was just staring at his toast. Had he been so caught up in thought? “after breakfast I would like to talk to you all, if that’s alright. But I will have something to do first,” he sighed, slumping his shoulders. “of course! But may I ask why you’d like to talk to us dear nerd?” roman asked. “it’s about the schedule. With everything that keeps coming up I’m constantly trying to fix it. and at the minuet I don’t know how Thomas is going to get everything done,” “so you need help cutting some things out?” Virgil said as he took a sip from a purple cup. “basically… yes.” “no problem specks,” Virgil said as he shrugged his shoulders.
“anyways, where will you be going?” “ah… I will be visiting Janus later,” roman and Virgil froze at his words. “why?” roman said with a raised eyebrow. “he… was the one to bring up the fact I was burning myself out. I said some harsh things. I also have a question to ask him.”
The other four sides looked between each other with confusion and worry.
He was outside Janus’s door sooner than he would have liked. But he was okay with that. Patton had sent him away with a box of cookies for the snake. Worried about him as they hadn’t spoken since the Lilly-Patton incident. he unconsciously rubbed his neck.
He sent three sharp knocks on the door. But much to his surprise, the movement had pushed the door open, the deceitful side must not have closed the door properly.
He nudged it open just enough to peek inside. A sharp pain filled his heart as he saw Janus sprawled on the bed that sat in the furthest corner of the room. another thing he realised was just how cold it was. like an icy blanket that covered the entire room.
He entered cautiously, placing the tub of cookies down by Janus’s hat. he looked over to the sleeping side with worry. He had never seen him looking so peaceful. It was kind of worrying truthfully.
He summoned a blanket and draped it over Janus, hoping it would keep him warm for now. he reached into his pocket. A small sorry letter he had written in case Janus wasn’t in. but sleeping was also another reason he hadn’t thought about.
He placed it at the end of the bed. Hoping the other would find it when he woke up. and if he didn’t, that wouldn’t stop him from apologising in person. he knew when he was wrong about something. And he knew he was wrong to say the things he had.
I will make you queen of everything you see, I'll put you on the map, I'll cure you of disease.
He had been surprised when he was slowly waking up. something warm was covering him like the worlds best hug. He would be lying if he said he didn’t pull it further over himself.
But as he slowly woke up, he cracked his eyes open and almost broke. He stared at the blanket that was covering himself only to see the deep blue colour. Logan had been here?
He sat up quickly, scanning his room quickly to see if the side was there. Not to his surprise… he wasn’t there. his alarm clock told him he had been asleep for a while. Lunch rolling around the corner soon.
He pulled the blue blanket over his shoulders and tied the ends like a cape. He forgot how cold he was for a couple seconds.
He looked over to his hat, a small plastic box sitting next to it. a small part of him thought he was asleep. There was no way that a light side would willingly come over… right?
He picked up the container and opened it up. chocolate chip cookies stared back at him. yes… he was definitely still asleep. There was no other way this was happening. Yeah… he would wake up in a couple seconds and he would be alone once again. None of this would be here.
He sighed and reached into the box, pulling out a cookie. a tiny smile formed on his face. he knew Logan couldn’t cook. So, there was a high chance that it was Patton’s or romans cooking.
He placed it back into the box and closed it over. But he held the container in his hands a little longer before placing it down.
Any warmth that had filled him before seemed to dull down as he realised that despite everything. He was still alone. For all he knew they were doing this to keep him away for a while longer…
“why can’t I do anything right!” the voice yelled in his mind. this one he could tell was Patton’s.
He sighed. Today was going to be a long day. He could already tell. he snapped his fingers and changed out of his pyjamas and into something else.
Black dress pants and a yellow button up. his caplet draped over his shoulders. Logan’s blanket still tied around himself like a cape.
And soon he found himself sinking down.
Let's say we up and left this town, And turned our future upside down. We'll make pretend that you and me, Lived ever after happily.
Janus arrived in the light side’s kitchen. Patton stood staring at the wall. he let out a cough, grabbing Patton attention almost immediately. “oh! Hello Jan- “he cut himself off as he looked at the snake with shock, “you…seem to have changed quite a bit there,”
Janus simply rolled his eyes, not as bothered as he felt he should have been by morality’s words. “anyways… I came to ask if you were okay,” he moved himself over to Patton's side.
“I’m… I’m okay kiddo,” Patton said, plastering a fake smile on his face.
Janus returned the smile with a blank look on his face,” that’s a lie. Isn’t it?” he sighed. “I don’t know what you mean?” “you’re bottling it up. you feel like you keep hurting those around you with everything you do,” Janus felt like such a hypocrite, “and you feel like you’re driving them away in the process. Am I wrong?”
Patton felt tears pricking his eyes as he looked at Janus. “what do I do?” he said, “I don’t want to lose them…”
Janus stayed silent. His face scrunched up in thought. His fingers rapped over the counter. “I don’t know truthfully… but maybe you should just confront it head on. Don’t skirt around the issue…” don’t do what I did, that’s what he meant.
Patton looked at him with a sad smile. “would you like to join us for lunch Janus?” he said as he rubbed his eyes, getting rid of the tears that messed with his vision. “as much as I’d love to, I know roman and Virgil wouldn’t want me there,” he said sadly. Patton could feel the small amounts of sadness coming from him. But it was blocked off by something else. As if it was being hidden by something else. Whatever it was, he couldn’t sense it. “well, if you change your mind, you’re welcome to join us.”
Janus gave a weak smile in Patton's direction and turned to leave but froze as he saw who was standing at the door.
Virgil glared at him but he could see the confusion in his eyes. “why are you here deceit,” he growled. “one, that’s not my title any more. And two… Patton simply needed some assistance. I was happy to help,” he said, keeping his eyes of the anxious side.
“excuse me?” Virgil said startled, “what the hell do you mean deceit isn’t your title anymore?” Janus shifted uncomfortably under the gaze of the other. “you can call me self-destruction from now on,” he said coldly, glancing up an connecting his eyes with the purple of Virgil’s.
Neither side knew what to say at what the now self-destruction side had said. This was new. sure, there had been splits… but never a full core change… “Janus…” Patton said as he took a step closer. “don’t,” Janus said, holding a hand up. Patton stopped walking towards Janus. His concern for the side growing even more.
Virgil didn’t know what to do, he just stood there dumbfounded. This was the last thing he had been expecting. Okay sure, he had been startled when he saw Janus’s new look. but this… his title shifting to something new. something like that? he didn’t know what to do. And he didn’t like not knowing things…
“how long,” Virgil said as he stared at the snake. “only this morning… no one else knows,” Janus said.
They shifted uncomfortably for a couple more seconds. “well… if you don’t mind, I think it would be best if I left for now,” Janus said, making his way over to the door Virgil had been blocking.
“no,” the anxious side said, “we don’t know what you can do now. How do we know if you wont effect Thomas,” he said staring at Janus. “please, you didn’t care about me before, why change that now?”
Virgil felt his chest tighten at the words spoken by Janus. “as much as I hate to say it… Virge has a point. With a new title… you will have to learn new things about yourself. And having people around might help,” he said carefully, trying to block out the words Janus had previously spoken.
“just let me go,” he muttered, swaying as he stood as still as possible. “Janus are you- Janus!” Patton yelled as he caught the side who had toppled over.
Janus was unconscious before he heard Patton yell his name.
Virgil was by their sides in seconds. Panic spreading through his veins. “Janus… Janus,” he said as he shook the snake, hoping to wake him up. “he’s like ice!” Patton said as he jerked his hand away from his head.
“get the others and tell them that Janus will be staying with us for a while,” Patton said as he picked Janus up bridal style. Trying his best not to shiver under the coldness of the others skin.
She asked me, "Son, when I grow old, Will you buy me a house of gold? And when your father turns to stone, Will you take care of me?"
Virgil gave a sharp nod before bolting out the room and making his way to the bedroom hallway. the first door he came to was Logan’s. he pounded on the door, hoping it would startle Logan out of his work. he heard shuffling on the other side before his door creaked open. Logan looked at Virgil rather surprised.
“get your ass down stairs,” Virgil said before shooting of to the twins shared room and pounding on the door in a hurry.
The door opened on its own and he flung the door open irritably. “get your asses down stairs, now,” he said as he looked at the twins who seemed startled by his sudden appearance, most likely thinking he was Patton.
But non the less they both stood up and made their way down the stairs after Virgil and a rather confused Logan. the three of them got closer to the living room. The sound of shuffling and Virgil pacing was all they could hear until they reached the room.
Patton was draping a blanket over something on the couch as Virgil moved something, placing a pillow underneath. and as the three of them got closer. They stopped moving.
“Janus,” Logan said before making his way over to the other two sides. he knelt down next to the unconscious side, “what happened?” he asked looking at the moral side. “we don’t know, we were talking and he started to sway before falling unconscious. I managed to catch him before he hit the ground, but he’s so cold. Almost like ice,” Patton muttered.
Logan reached his hand and placed it gently on the sides head. Patton was correct. He was cold as ice. “keep him wrapped up in the blankets,” he said before turning to the twins, “can one of you come with me to Janus’s room? I need to check something out from earlier,” he said as he stood up. “oh, and Virgil. Go into my room and get the medical box from under the bathroom sink. His arms need to be covered,”
Virgil stared at Logan, “what do you mean by that specks,” he whispered. even Remus who was normally loud and yelling, his eyes glazed over at his words, “he said he stopped…” he whispered horrified.
“ill come with you then dear nerd, we shall be back soon,” he said as he sunk out with Logan not too far behind.
I will make you queen of everything you see, I'll put you on the map, I'll cure you of disease.
Logan and roman appeared in Janus’s room. The first thing roman did was curse under his breath at how cold it was. “no wonder he was so cold specks… his rooms colder than the artic!” “but why…” Logan said as he began to look around.
The room was much smaller than his own. But it was much more cluttered. A wall of trophies Thomas had won sat high and on display. musical posters and photographs hung the walls. a bookshelf sat facing Janus’s bed. Filled to the brim with books on philosophers and snakes.
Then his eyes landed on something. A small leather-bound book that looked far older than anything on the book case. “roman,” he said, causing the side to look up from his position, looking in a small wooden box. he made his way over as Logan removed the book. it didn’t take too long for him to realise what he was holding. “looks like a diary,” he muttered.
What had caught roman was the symbol printed into the front. One he hadn’t seen in on much. but knew all to well. “why does he have Romulus’s diary?” he said to himself, but it didn’t go unheard by the other in the room.
“no… its Janus’s,” he said as he flicked through the pages, “each one was signed of by Janus. Not Romulus- wait look here,” he said.
The hand writing and use of pen had changed from black to a multi coloured one. Red and green ink swirling on the page. he read over what was written.
They re read what was written. Guilt seemed to flood into them as the read it over and over again. had Romulus and Janus been that close that… oh god… a sick feeling laid planted in romans chest. he didn’t know much about the person he had split from. But he knew that Janus had always played a part in his past. He thought that maybe he had been the cause of the split.
Not that Romulus split on purpose in hopes to better balance out the mind scape for everyone’s sake. Maybe… he would discuss his plan with his twin later. “we should keep looking. And if we don’t find anything… we can put it down to his core shifting and messing with his room,” Logan said; he only getting a nod in response.
Ohhhh... And since we know that dreams are dead, And life turns plan’s up on their head, I will plan to be a bum, So I just might become someone.
Janus needed to stop falling asleep. He was going to mess with his sleep schedule. he noticed three things as he began to wake up for the third time that day. one, he was warm. Not Logan’s blanket, just keeping out the cold. This was full on Patton hug level of warmth. second was the smell of cookies that hung in the air. It was comforting to some extent. Only he knew he hadn’t done any cooking in a long time. third was that he was lying on something soft. His bed had always been stiff and hard. This, he was able to melt into like putty.
He didn’t want to move. He was perfectly fine being here for the rest of eternity. but he was curious as to where he was. so despite his body complaining against waking up, he tried his best to crack his eyes open. A bright light filled his vision, causing him to et out a small hiss of pain.
Then noise filled his ears, the sounds of people shouting and moving filled his head as he finally got his eyes open. he didn’t expect to see all the light sides surrounding him.
“Janus! Are you alright?” Patton asked. he didn’t know what to do. His mind ran at several miles an hour, a light panic setting into his chest as he realised how close they were to him.
Virgil seemed to know the look on Janus’s face, “everyone back away, you’re crowding him. He’s already starting to panic,” he said as he shuffled away slightly.
The others followed suit as they realised Janus was indeed internally panicking. they waited a couple minutes before Patton turned to Logan who gave him a quick nod. He stood up and made his way out of the room. “sorry,” Janus muttered as he bowed his head down. “it’s alright Jannie,” Remus said as he smiled at Janus.
He looked around the room once again. Still confused as to why they weren’t being hostile as before… “what happened?” he asked as he looked at them. Virgil shifted uncomfortably, grabbing Janus’s attention, “you fell unconscious after I confronted you in the kitchen. Patton caught you before you hit the ground,” he said, keeping his eyes away from Janus.
The room fell quiet. But it wasn’t bad… it felt calm. “well, should I put a movie on in the mean time?” roman asked everyone. “I have no quarry with that,” Logan said as he adjusted his glasses. “same here princy,” Virgil said. “sure thing bitch,” Remus said punching his twins arm getting a wince in response.
Janus nodded, moving his hand to rub his arm before looking down, realising he wasn’t touching his coarse skin. Once again, he felt himself freeze in place. They had seen them…
Well he was fucked. “Janus- “he looked up from his arms and towards roman. “is there anything you’d like to watch?” Janus didn’t respond, he only looked at roman before casting his eyes back to his wrists.
It was at that moment Patton entered the room with a bowl of soup. He gave it over to the grey scaled side with a smile. “you missed lunch and dinners still a while away, I thought you might get hungry,” he said cheerfully.
He held the bowl staring at it for a couple seconds. The soup seemed to ripple for a couple seconds. And it was then that he realised he had begun to cry. a pair of hands moved the bowl from him and someone wrapped him up in a hug. That only seemed to make him cry harder despite the fact he had clung onto the person.
“I’m sorry,” he hiccupped as tears continued to pour. he tried to stop crying, but the tears continued to pour despite his best efforts. “it’s okay Janus, you’ve been too strong for a long time, its our turn to return the favour,” Virgil whispered into his ear. another several sets of arms wrapped around him to the best of their abilities.
She asked me, "Son, when I grow old, Will you buy me a house of gold? And when your father turns to stone, Will you take care of me?"
Things were far from fine. That was for sure. But in that moment… he knew why he was crying and it wasn’t from sadness or loneliness or the never-ending coldness that laid over his heart that slowly seemed to be filling up with something warm.
The tears were from the overwhelming love he felt the others giving him despite all he had done. the warm looks given his way. he didn’t deserve them. But it felt so nice.
I will make you queen of everything you see, I'll put you on the map, I'll cure you of disease.
He himself was by no means going to be okay for a long time… but this?
This was a start.

Wont you let me take you to the other side?- A dark sides au intrulogical story
okaaaaaay I got hit with alot of inspiration for this one! I was listening to the song The Other Side from The Greatest Showman ( and had @softmushie ‘s animatic of the song on repeat for like an hour its so good) and as I was listening I started thinking and suddenly this song fit these two perfectly for this au.
A bit of context: Remus is pretty damn tired of the light sides and his brother always taking things from him and virgil and the other dark sides and decides that they need a taste of their own medicine, and he knows EXACTLY what to do to do it~
I hope you guys enjoy, I had alot of fun doing this and there will be a corresponding picture being drawn( since I dont have the tools to make animatics- theres an animatic in this that im just writing out at this point) So if this comes off as a song fic thats part of the plan
Anyway enjoy!!
Warnings: Crude language, cursing, remus being remus, unsympathetic sides(all sides not just one, depends on whose side youre viewing the conflict from) Sympathetic dark sides, Sexual implications and innuendos somewhere
Logan would pride himself on being many things, such as prepared for almost any situation. He was rational, logic, level-headedness, problem solver, calm. He was prepared for many things thrown at the sides and at Thomas.
He knew how to calmly ease Deceit’s insecurities about his new role. He knew how to reel back Roman from going overboard and exhausting himself before he can expand on any one idea. He knew how to calm Patton down when and urge him to talk before he bottled up too much negativity. He would even risk saying he could keep the dark sides from causing too much mayhem, as difficult as they could make themselves. Logan was efficient and orderly, and he tried to keep most of the mindscape, and Thomas, the same way despite any roadblocks or shenanigans.
Despite this he was not prepared for everything that could happen, which is what landed him in his current predicament.
Logan’s head throbbed lightly as he pried his eyes open, as if he had a headache or had been hit hard over the head with something heavy. When he had gathered his bearings he looked up to find himself in a dark space shrouded in black, sitting at the end up a sleek dark table. A glance down showed him he was not restrained in any visible way, and he could get up and leave if he so wanted. But where he would be leaving was unclear, and he stayed seated as he thought back to what happened and how he would’ve gotten here. ‘ Lets see....we were brainstorming another video idea...I was with Roman...we were bickering over an idea of his and the actuality of Thomas being able to pull it off in a timely matter or if we should go with something else...it was a bit of a stalemate so to speak...and then Roman yelled something about behind me...and then I saw a glimpse of green...and then...The last thing I can remember seeing was--’
“ Remus.” He said firmly. Thats when he heard a familiar laugh at the other end of the table.
“ You called Logan darling~?” Logan sighed and briefly pinched the bridge of his nose to maintain his composure before reopening his eyes and locking them with the wild, glowing green eyes of the side across from him.
Remus was sitting at the other side of the table with his chair tilted back in a precarious balancing act and a wide grin on his face that reeked of bad intentions...or maybe that was just Remus in general. Logan sat himself up straighter in his chair and sighed.
“ Remus would you please explain where we are, and why you felt the need to knock me out to bring me here.” Remus only shrugged at first, tapping freshly painted black nails on the desk where he could reach. Despite the casual feel to his movements his eyes were unusually sharp and focused, trapping Logan in their grip. He couldnt help the irritated huff he gave, and he tapped his foot a little.
“ Remus please, I’m not in the mood for these games of yours right now. Wheres the exit.” All he got back was an amused hum and the thud of his chair remeeting the floor and the creak as the other leaned towards him.
“ oh ho ho~ No games today Lo-lo not this time...This time I’d like to put an offer for you out on the table.” He gave a grand sweep gesture over the table and grinned, eyes glittering with something Logan recognized somewhere else. Stubborn-ness, determination.
He saw it in Roman’s eyes far too often to mistake it.
“ An...offer? Remus...what are you talking about?” Remus seemed to wave off his clear suspicion and continued his pitch, voice enthusiastic and honest.
“ Cmon lo! I dont want to have to keep chasing you down for it...but I know you see it too. Drop the stuffy ties with those light side pricks and try running with me.” Logan was stunned, too stunned to reply at first. And Remus took that opportunity to keep going.
“ You can run with me, and I can cut you free from them and all the burdens they keep piling on. Out of all that drudgery and the walls that are keeping you in!” He leaned forward more, palms flat on the table as he stood from his chair.
“ Lets trade that boring typical for something different, something colorful! And if its bad or crazy? Fuck it lets live a little crazy!” Logan only had time to blink before Remus was standing beside him, leaning close.
“ You can play it sensible, their king of the conventional. Or you can risk it all and see...dont you just wanna get away from this same old boooooooring part they make you play?” He felt Remus’s hand glid over his chest and shoulder as he circled around the chair, another grand gesture made with his other hand.
“ Because frankly specs, I got more of what you need! So just come with me and take the ride~ and I’ll take you to the other side! Because dont get me wrong...” Another blink and the other was seated directly in front of him on top of the table, one leg crossed over the other and his heeled boot lightly pressing on his thigh above his knee.
“ you can keep doing like you do...or you can do like me! You can stay in you boring little cage, or you can finally take the key...” A golden key dangled in his right hand tauntingly, as his other hand wrapped around Logan’s tie and pulled him up so their faces were close. He lowered his voice to a soften, smooth tone as his smiled curled into a small smirk.
“ Well damn, then suddenly youre free to fly....Just let me take you to the other side.”
Logan blinked, once then twice as he processed what was happening as quickly as he could. And once it had he almost let out a bit of a laugh. Remus was persuasive when he was passionate about something, Logan wouldnt deny him that. His words were urging and hypnotic, but that alone wouldnt make the logical side swoon. So he sighed through his nose and put his hand on the wrist holding his tie and met his eyes confidently.
“ Ok Remus, you want to...” cut me in” so to speak. You want me to join the dark sides with you correct? As...gilded and lovely as you make the offer to be...” He gently pushed his hand off and leaned back in his chair, straightening his tie with a calm, composed expression.
“ Well I hate to tell youm but it simply just wont happen. So I give you my thanks, but no. I think im good to go.” He gave a small smirk and stood from the chair and took a step away, casually dusting his shoulders off as he did.
“ Because despite what you say I quite enjoy the life you claim to say im trapped in. Not to completely disregard you now,” He glanced back, dark blue cutting into bright green as the table disappeared and left the two standing face to face in the darkness
“ Now, I’ll admit I do admire you, and this whole show you can do. Youre onto something Remus, really youre onto something I can say I’ll be proud of you for. But I have to stay among the light sides and rationality, and cannot afford to give in to recklessness. That, I’ll have to leave that up to you.” He chuckled softly with his words and stood up straighter, his smiling faded as he took a more serious approach, turning on his heels to walk away.
“ Dont you know that im ok with this “ uptown” part I get to play. Because there I got what I need and I dont wish to take your ride. So I dont need to see the other side.” He turned and began to walk, waving his hand to dismiss the idea away.
“ So you go back and do like you do, I’m well and good to do like me. I am not in some so called cage...so I dont need to take your key Remus. I believe you can see I’m doing just fine. I dont need you to take me to the other side.” Remus narrowed his eyes and let out his own sigh, watching his back with more seriousness.
“ Is that really how you like to spend your days? Wasted and in misery, locked in their rules and pretty plays?” Logan glanced back with a stern look.
“ If I were to be mixed up with you, I’d be the talk of the mindscape. I’d likely be disgraced and disowned, discarded as unfit for my role as logic.”
Logan had blinked once and suddenly he was swept off his feet and in a twirl. He let out a startled noise as Remus led him in a extravagant waltz, arms around him and keeping him close as the world around them melted and swirled into a  luxurious and gothic ballroom hall, green candlelight flickering and glowing as they danced round and round. Here in his arms Logan realized for the first time that Remus was actually taller than him, and that the other could dance beautifully and elegantly while Logan stumbled along with him. Remus didnt seem to mind as he chuckled and led Logan round and round to music he couldve sworn floated at the edges of his hearing, something somber and sweet on the violin or piano maybe.
“ Cmon Logan dont you enjoy this? The freedom, the thrill?” Logan looked up again and opened his mouth to repeat his stance when Remus leaned close
“ You would finally get to live a little, finally laugh a little....just let me give you the freedom to dream and to breathe a little...” Another twirl and he spun Logan once like a princess before continuing their dance.
“ It’ll wake you up and cure all your aching, I’ll take all your walls and we’ll start ‘em breaking! Now to me that seems like a deal...a risk well worth taking~” He then spun Logan away from him, and the logical side found himself a little speechless as the scene morphed once more. Remus himself fell into a deep sweeping bow as he smiled, a bow worthy of a King’s presence. And for the one moment Logan realized he could feel the weight of a crown on his head, could see parts of the elegant and simple royal robes he was donning and the throne room he now stood at the head of, moonlight pouring in and giving it all an almost heavenly glow. His eyes met Remus’s once more, and he saw they were glittering in the moonlight, like green jewels. And all at once the moonlight faded and Remus pulled himself up. Logan briefly felt a hand slide sensually, longingly across his cheek as it grew darker, and as Remus’s voice grew softer.
“ But I guess I’ll leave that decision up to you Logan...”
He blinked and found himself standing in the hallway, right in front of his room, normal attire and Remus nowhere in sight. It was dark, most likely night now and he could feel Thomas sleeping.
He was back home...right?
Logan took a deep breath as quietly as he could and shook his head, trying to dismiss the whole ordeal as perhaps nothing but a vivid dream of sorts...He let his shoulders slump a little as he headed into his room to go work on some things before bed. But he stopped as his door clicked shut, eyes locked on the single thorny blue rose sitting in the center of his desk. He felt warmth flood his cheeks as his fingers brushed one of the silk soft petals. He caught a glimpse of a single lined note attached to the stem, the paper spotted with a couple suspicious red dots and curvy, messy handwriting.
‘ I’ll be waiting on your answer, you know where to find me once you do~ Until then darling’
aaaaaaaaaand tadaaaa! Its done!! I hope you guys like it!!

Alright ya’ll buckle up, because I think me and my sister just solved Sanders Sides.
The idea stemmed from a comment that one of my sister’s friends made regarding her deceit christmas sweater. This friend had never seen the show before and after my sister explained the concept of the show to her, she asked if the side on her sweater was envy. My sister obviously corrected her and said that the side was Deceit, but she thought it was super strange how that was the first thing the friend came up with. Apparently it was the two headed snake that led her to pick envy.
So this made us think that if Deceit could also represent envy, then maybe the other sides could also encompass one of the seven deadly sins. The sin is not their main function, but each side has a sin that they are in control of. This theory also solidifies the orange side theory as there are seven deadly sins, and with six sides, that would mean we only have one sin left. It’s also fair to mention that the show itself goes out of its way to talk about the seven deadly sins in DWIT, and the show rarely does things without a purpose. So here’s our big, seven deadly sins theory on the show.
💛Deceit and envy:
Envy is defined as a sad or resentful covetousness towards the traits or possessions of someone else. Basically jealously towards what someone has that you do not. Interestingly enough, we’ve already seen Deceit display envy on multiple occasions. Throughout SvsS Deceit is baffled that Thomas is allowing his friends to be happy and have their special day, while letting himself suffer. Deceit feels envious of Thomas’ friends and the joy that they’ll be having on their wedding day. Not only this but, Deceit has also been established as containing a lot of Thomas’ selfish desires, and it goes without saying that envy is a faily selfish sin.
There are also many places where it can be assumed that Deceit feels envy. He is envious towards the light sides and how easily thomas accepts them. He is envious of Patton, not only because of how much Thomas loves him, but how much more Virgil loves him that he loved Deceit. He could also be envious of Virgil for leaving the dark sides and getting what Deceit wants most, acceptance from Thomas. I believe that Deceits arc is where his envy will truly shine.
❤️Roman and greed:
Roman’s connection to his sin is fairly interesting as he, out of all the sides, does the best job ignoring it. Roman is clearly greedy and wants what he desires, but he seems to push away the greed in order to appease not only Thomas, but also Patton. Roman could have easily been greedy and pushed Thomas to go to the callback in SvsS, but he didnt, instead hiding his deepest desires. While doing this obviously made patton feel a lot happier, it also leaves open a door for Roman’s much anticipated arc.
Unfortunatly for Roman, a lot of his desires are impossible to accheive. He is creativity and imagination after all, so he could really want something that is simply too unrealistic to have. For example, in Dealing with a Breakup, Roman clearly wants to get back together with Thomas’ ex, but everyone knows that something like that is unrealistic. In almost every case that Roman shows greed, he pushes it down and ignores it. All of this build up is leading to an arc where he deals with his greedy thoughts and possibly learns that sometimes, its okay to be greedy.
💚Remus and lust:
Honestly, I don’t really feel like I have to explain this one. So far Remus has been the only side to show any sexual character traits, so he would clearly also carry the sin of lust with him.
💜Virgil and sloth:
This one I’m super excited about because it makes a ton of sense. Anyone with anxiety would know that it keeps you from doing a lot of things that you really want to do. Have a social event to go to? Nope. How about we stay home instead and watch youtube. I’m sure a lot of you can relate. This same interaction is literally the entire basis of the newest Asides episode. Virgil is anxious about going to the party with the friend they fought with, so Thomas stays home and sits on the couch watching movies the whole night. Logan even goes as far as mentioning something along the lines of “Do you know how many times we worry about a decision over and over again until its too late for Thomas to change his mind?” Practically calling virgil out.
Apart from this, its also fair to mention that Virgil talks constantly about how he’s lazy and doesn’t like to work hard.
💙Patton and gluttony:
All right Patton time! So, out of all the sins, Patton clearly represents gluttony. One of the only sides to mention food (except for obviously logan and Crofters) is Patton. Whether is pizza or cookies, Patton clearly loves food. He encourages Thomas to eat whatever he wants because he believes that Thomas deserves it. That’s ones obvious with the whole “second cookie” line and also the “when your an adult, you can eat whatever you want!” line.
Even Patton’s gift for Roman in the christmas episode is food! A container of spaghetti. Not to mention that pattons christmas scarf also has milk and cookies and it. Basically patton is just surrounded by food imagery and its hard to see him having any other sin.
🖤Logan and Pride:
Logan is another side where his sin is leading him up to his arc. While a lot of people assume that Roman is pride, I think it makes much more sense as Logan and here’s why. Having pride in your work and the things that you create is almost never a bad thing. You should be proud of those things. But being too proud of yourself and your capabilities can get a bit dangerous. Logan has shown time and time again that he believes he’s the smartest and most important of Thomas’ sides. Saying things like “I’m the most important side here” or “I know I’m smarter than everyone else” or “I can usually solve problems on my own”. All of these show that Logan had a huge ego and a whole lot of pride.
Not only this, but Thomas recently built up this pride by complimenting Logan at the end of DWIT. Something that logan immediately let get to his head in the Asides episode. We all remember “Just your cool teacher being his cool self”. Logan’s whole character is built apon maintaining his pride and his image. He refuses to admit that he has feeling or show any weakness and he is too prideful in himself. This is where Logan’s arc is eventually going to take him.
🧡Orange and Wrath:
So that of course leaves us with one sin, wrath. I think that a lot of fans have speculated that wrath would be the next side, but with this theory, wrath would simply be one part of the sides personality. In each of the other sides, their sin is a small part of a whole. So with this logic, the next side would not be entirely wrathful, but would sometimes exhibit wrathful behavior or desires. Me and my sister, unfortunately couldn’t come up with one set-in-stone name for this character, but we were able to determine a lot of his charcteristics based on the context of the show.
Each dark side has been hinted at or forshadowed before he was revealed. For Deceit, thomas says something along the lines of “Lying is wrong, and thats a side of myself I would rather not feed into”. Remus has quite a few forshadowings. At one point, Roman says “and hopefully not thoughts of your naked aunt patty!” Which him and thomas then proceeds to be disturbed by. Remus is also forshadowed when Logan brings up being beheaded on A roller coaster. He’s even forshadowed right before he’s revealed in DWIT when Roman says “fishier than the crackens crack” and Patton reacts a little disgusted.
So we looked for instances where orange could have possibly been forshadowed and we found two moments in particular. The one obvious example is when Logan throws the balled up paper at Romans eye in LNTAO. The way in which the scene is filmed and logans remark “I don’t know where that came from” make this scene out to be very important. Not only this, but logans remark is the exact same one that Roman makes after the aunt patty naked quote. So this would then go to show that the next side contains a lot of frustration and build up anger and rage.
Another example of forshadowing is in the aSides episode. Virgil explains the encounter that Thomas had with his friend. Clearly Thomas was very angry and upset with this friend for his past homophobic views. He lashed out in a way that couldnt be encompassed by any of the sides other than orange. We’ve never seen one of the other sides angry like this before (except for the forshadowing with logan) so it has to be the last side. Thomas even responds to his friends “your behavior is unacceptable” with the snarky remark “oh yeah, like me being with a man is unacceptable?” Which is so out of character for any of the current sides to say. It’s also very curious to note that virgil is extremely anxious about the encounter. Virgil has shown in the past that his reactions to the dark sides are very intense, and I would feel comfortable saying that this is the most intense anxious reaction we’ve seen from virgil as of yet. With all that said, this encounter shows orange’s ability to hold a grudge and resentment or hatred for another person. While this doesnt show him being wrathful, or seeking vengence, it’s fairly easy to see how such hatred and grudginess could lead to him seeking revenge in the future.
Okay, wow! That took a really long time to write out... Please let me know your thoughts in the comments, or if you have anything else to add to the theory! I really appreciate if you made it through that whole thing, because I know I probably rambled quite a bit.

jus a warmup but i hope u enjoy!! sofd anxceit,, i lvoe them
summary: Virgil isn't a soft person. But sitting on his fire escape with Dee has always been his comfort, and maybe, just for Dee, Virgil can be soft.
warnings: incorrect fire escape usage, two swear words (f word), patton and roman are namedropped but thats it, anything else lmk!
pairing: anxceit
tagging @gr3ml1n-loser for the softd anxceit idea, and @brain-iak and @pattons-cat-hoodie for their support !! also all of them asked fhkdslf
---
Virgil has no idea what the laws about fire escapes are, but he feels like he might be breaking a few of them.
Like, he knows that nobody cares if he chills on the fire escape to escape more than fire, but he’s started transforming it into a getaway, of sorts. He has a waterproof mat that he regularly dries off, places a towel to buffer, and piles with blankets. He strung up some fairy lights the other day when he saw similar lights strung around Patton’s room, because, fuck it, right?
Which is odd, Virgil knows. The fire escape isn’t his balcony. He doesn’t have a balcony. In fact, he dreams of the day he has the money for an apartment with a balcony.
The other day Patton gifted him a succulent and Virgil doesn’t want it to die, so he finds a spot for it on his fire escape.
And he’s sitting there, at eleven o'clock at night, when loud clanging sounds above him.
Startling, Virgil forces himself to focus on keeping his tea in his mug instead of splattered across his blankets. There’s a few more noises, a window closing, some breaths.
“Hey, Virge,” his neighbor to the north says. He’s leaning over the edge of his own fire escape, teeth and eyes bright in the starlight. Fabric drapes along his arms, soft and loose.
“Hey,” Virgil says. He settles further into his hoodie, back pressed against a pillow, supported by the external wall of the building. He peers up at his neighbor. “Coming down?”
His neighbor makes a noise of confirmation before disappearing. Moments later, he slips down the fire escape, touching down softly on Virgil’s private getaway.
He sinks down, expression smoothing. He practically melts into his own pillow setup, a tired sigh escaping his lips.
Virgil hums. Drinks some tea. Stares at the lights of the city.
“You would not believe how the actor for Belle treated me today,” Dee starts. Virgil reaches to a spot outside the realm of blankets, grabbing another mug and handing it to Dee, who takes it without preamble. He takes a sip with one hand, the other settling on the blankets between them.
Virgil watches his movements absently. He makes a noise deep in his throat, confirming that he’s listening to Dee’s story.
Dee talks, and talks, and talks, but it doesn’t sound like rambling. Everything he says is concise, well-thought out, to the point. He’s only talking about his day, a day in the life of a community theater stage hand, but Virgil feels warmed all the same.
He reaches a point where he says, “and then, the newbie says he doesn’t know how to throw weight,” and Virgil cuts in with, “seems like he can barely pull his own weight,” and Dee startles.
The night moves forward, clouds slugging across the sky, choked by pollution. But Dee laughs, and the stars shine a little brighter, the breeze feels a little warmer, the night grows a little quieter.
Virgil smiles into his mug.
“You know,” Dee says. Virgil can read his hesitation on the slight stick of the word, in his fingers twining around the soft blankets, in his shoulders shifting and tightening. “We’re gonna make it, you and I.”
Virgil tears his gaze away from Dee’s hands, their eyes locking together. He can’t see the color of Dee’s eyes in the darkness, not really, but the shine of the fairy lights and Virgil’s memory fill in the striking green easily enough.
Dee’s staring at him like he can solve the world’s problems. No -- not the world’s problems. Dee’s problems. Like Virgil could say the word and his worries would vanish, dissipating in the cool spring air.
Virgil doesn’t know what to do with this power.
For now, though, he’ll keep stealing Dee’s nights, holding his time hostage as they soak in the city and each other’s company.
Virgil doesn’t reply. He sets his mug down on a blanket-less surface to prevent spilling. He shifts, shrinking the space between them inches at a time and tangling their fingers together.
He holds Dee’s hand with reverence, memorizing the creases and calluses for the dozenth time. I know, he says in brushing his thumb against the back of Dee’s hand. We’ll make it together, he adds, pressing nimble fingers against Dee’s strong wrist.
Dee hums. One of his hands still holds the mug but his other slides easily into Virgil’s own halting Virgil’s wordless conversation.
He leans back against the pillow, peering up at the tangle of metal stretching above them. Up, up, up, all the way to the apartments Virgil and Dee cannot afford, even in such a run down building as this one.
“Roman?” Virgil asks, cutting through the gentle softness of the night. They aren’t soft, not exactly. They have jagged edges, torn through situations neither likes to talk about, but sitting on a fire escape surrounded by soft things sometimes allows them to forget.
Like a game of pretend. Like sitting together, two shattered people trying to claw their way back up, this time legally, like sitting in the quiet and talking about easy topics will change their life.
Well. Virgil considers. It has changed their life, even a little bit, hasn’t it?
Dee shifts. His thumb runs circles against Virgil’s wrist. Virgil catches the glint of a smile. “He said we’re in it for the long haul,” he says. He turns to look at Virgil as he says it, and Virgil’s hit with the full force of Dee’s grin.
Every time Dee smiles his entire face transforms. He could topple nations with the quirk of his lips alone.
Virgil, though. His chest swells up, emotion thrumming against every nerve, and he smiles back.
Dee looks away first, looking overwhelmed. They’re closer than they were before, their shoulders pressing. Virgil can feel warmth through the many layers of clothing between them.
Dee takes a breath, staring pointedly at the world beyond them, and continues. “Roman got a callback for a travelling group. The callback is scheduled for next week. If he makes it, he’ll have a five month tour. If he lands a good spot, I’ll be with him.”
“That’s a long time,” Virgil says out loud. He leans, dropping his head against Dee’s shoulder. I don’t want you to leave but I want you to go.
“Yeah,” Dee says, instead of the thousand other thoughts that Virgil knows are swirling around his head. Such as, come with me. Live with me. Leave your apartment, quit your shitty office job, become an author a poet an artist, the person you always wanted to be. Write that song. Laugh. Paint a picture so gorgeous everyone will stop and stare. Live.
Dee settles his head against the top of Virgil’s, the two of them curled together like birds seeking warmth. “Yeah,” he says instead.
They don’t have arguments on the fire escape. It’s their ever present unspoken rule, and Virgil knows that Dee feels just as strongly about the sanctity of existing together in a space never tainted.
They talk about life, but not about movement.
But, maybe this once…
“Maybe,” Virgil whispers. The words steal away in the darkness, lost in the rumble of car engines and sounds of the city.
Dee tenses. His arm, which has slipped around Virgil’s back, holds him tighter. Virgil can read the questions in his movement. The hope beaming out of the cracks in Dee’s facade.
“Not now,” Virgil says. He knows the words leave a lot up to interpretation; not now what? Not now, Virgil can’t move? Can’t uproot his life? Not now, he can’t deal with hard questions?
But Virgil just knows, he knows between the subtle shifts and parted lips, that Dee caught his meaning. Not now. Virgil can’t talk about this right now. But Virgil knows Dee also caught the underlying later.
Virgil exhales. Between the glitter of the fairy lights and the city beyond them, Virgil feels wrapped in a little bubble of his own making.
Safe.
Dee moves, just enough to set his own mug down and settle more completely against Virgil’s form. I love you, Virgil says, in tapping against Dee’s thigh, in melting in Dee’s arms.
A quiet moment, the city sounding so, so far away, then; I love you too, Dee says, fingers sliding against Virgil’s arm, cheek pressed against the crown of Virgil’s head.
Virgil doesn’t have a balcony. He doesn’t have the money for it.
But wrapped in Dee’s arms, lights glittering around them, the night loud far away but quiet where they sit, he thinks that maybe a balcony isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.
After all, Virgil has never been more content than when he’s sitting on his fire escape, Dee by his side.

Thomas Mental Health. I love this visual so much I can’t even begin to explain it.
That’s a nice transition
Dee looks so sincere I feel so sorry for him.
Roman might actually be more black and white then Patton. This doesn’t sound like a surprise but he’s still so adamant that Dee’s a villain even after having been proven so VERY WRONG with Virgil. Then again, we haven’t seen Virgil this whole time and Thomas is very clearly under a LOT of stress. So maybe after the news of last episode V got kicked out again? I don’t know. Roman is very defensive of Patton anyway and that hurts.
Pffft Dee don’t hurt my babies please.
Mood. FUcking Mood. I have never related to Deceit more then now “Never gonna be perfect” mmmmm Ilovemysnakeson

Dee’s also trying so hard. He has a very good point and needs to be listened to more but he himself does need to… learn to… not be so selfish…. Yeah that makes no sense NEVERMIND-
Fauxgan.
Roman’s aware he was being manipulated this is… interesting. He may be arrogant and ignorant but he’s not stupid. Hmm. People are gonna use this for Roceit angst and I am going to eat it up and cry for ten hours.

Side Tracks opinions part 2: Virgil
(Here we go again! I think I may have less to say about Virgil’s than Janus’, so I’ll try to make this one shorter)
1) Sunrise, Sunset: This ones about Virgil when he was with the darksides. Virgil is beginning to get tired of his life as a darkside and the monotony of it (“sunrise, sunset, swiftly go the days. Sunrise, sunset you wake up then you undress, it always is the same”). He feels like something is changing in him, but doubts that he will ever be able to escape the routine that he’s been living in for so long (“Because you've changed, Yeah, you've changed” “from a cradle to a casket, there is no way to escape” “The sunrise, the sunsets, you're hopeful and then you regret, the circle never breaks”).
2) Let’s Kill Tonight: Some of Virgil songs can be very vague and it can be hard to pinpoint who the song is focused toward (this is one of them). My interpretation of the song is that this takes place during Virgil’s first appearance with the light sides (“Make room we're taking over here” “Show them all you're not the ordinary type”) Perhaps the dark sides were aware of Virgil leaving and so Virgil’s initial view of the light sides was a bit more spiteful and angry than we thought. With this interpretation I like to assume that it was Janus’ plan to let Virgil out, perhaps in an attempt to get all the dark sides accepted, but it backfired when Virgil realized that the light sides weren’t as bad as he was raised to believe.
3) Sally’s Song: After the last song, this song shows Virgil’s realization that perhaps he does want to be with the light sides. He really cares about Thomas and wants to be with him, but he’s worried about whether or not he’ll be helpful and worthy (“And though I'd like to stand by him, Can't shake this feeling that I have” “And will he see? How much he means to me. I think it's not to be” “All though I'd like to join the crowd, In their enthusiastic loud. Try as I may It doesn't last”)
4) It Ends Tonight: Virgil is starting to be accepted, woot woot (“When darkness turns to light, It ends tonight, it ends tonight” “A weight is lifted on this evening”). Virgil seems to start to feel a lot of anger towards the other dark sides at this point. He feels as if he’s been tricked by them and that Thomas needed him all along (“A falling star, at least I fall alone”). He’s now showing anger and frustration towards the dark sides that really hasn’t been prevalent in the playlist up until this point. I think he’s realized that they’ve either been using him, lying to him, or fooling him (“I look at you with such disdain” “Now I'm on my own side, It's better than being on your side”).
5) I’d Hate to be You When People find out What this Song is About: Now that Virgil is with the light sides, he’s worried that he may not be good enough or helpful enough for Thomas (“Well, I'm thinking of the worst things That I could say to you” “But I'm tongue tied and terrified of what I'll say” And I'm sorry that this wasn't easy, When I asked you believe me” “I could only sing you sad songs”). He’s so worried about hurting Thomas because of his dark side origins that he doesnt understand why Thomas is trying so hard to accept him (“You never let go, But I let go”). He also refrains from telling Thomas about his true past probably out of fear or worry that Thomas won’t want him anymore (“But I never told you everything, I'm losing hope and fading dreams”).
6) A Decade under the Influence: Virgil is anxious™️. Despite how worried he is about his ability to help Thomas, he knows that he has to try and that he has to protect Thomas from the other dark sides (“Well, I've got a bad feeling about this, I've got a bad feeling about this” “To hell with you and all your friends, To hell with you and all your friends” “I’m a nervous wreck”).
7) Thnks fr th Mmrs: HUGE, SASSY middle finger to Janus. Honestly, thats it. Virgil has been fully accepted by Thomas and the light side gang and he is LOVING it. This song is just Virgil rubbing it in Janus’ face how much better off he is without him and the dark sides (“Who does he think he is?” “Thanks for the memories even though they weren't so great”). He also flaunts the fact that Patton is a much better parent/authority figure than Janus ever was (“He tastes like you, only sweeter”).
8) Be Calm: This ones cuteeeee. Virgil has been with the light sides for some time now and has begun to understand that he can be helpful to thomas (“As I walk through the streets of my new city, My back feeling much better, I suppose”). The entire song just feels like Virgil helping Thomas through an anxiety attack or some panic of sorts. He relates to Thomas on the feeling and tries his best to help him relax (“I close my eyes, I tell myself to breathe” “And be calm. Be calm. I know you feel like you are breaking down. Oh I know that it gets so hard sometimes. Be calm.” “Take it from me, I've been there a thousand times.” “You hate your pulse because it thinks you're still alive” “It just gets so hard sometimes”). Theyre starting to bond and finally understand each other and that is just super sweet 💜💜💜.
9) I’m not Okay (I Promise): Honestly... I’m not super sure about this one. It’s another vague one as to who it is aimed toward, but I’m just gonna assume it’s either Thomas or Patton. Virgil is feeling like he isn’t being listened to and needs to be taken more seriously (“I never want to let you down or have you go” “I told you time and time again you sing the words but don't know what it means” “I held you close as we both shook for the last time” “You said you read me like a book, but the pages all are torn and frayed” “But you really need to listen to me, Because I'm telling you the truth”).
10) Imaginary: Despite now being a light side, Virgil still worries about the darker sides that are hidden within Thomas (“In my field of paper flowers And candy clouds of lullaby. I lie inside myself for hours And watch my purple sky fly over me”). He knows that they will try to get out at any moment and may be harmful to Thomas, so he has to keep his guard up. (“Don't say I'm out of touch, With this rampant chaos your reality” “I know well what lies beyond my sleeping refuge” “Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming, Cannot cease for the fear of silent nights”).
11) Soft Shock: Oof guys... I really, really don’t know here. This song is SO romantic that it’s hard to even imagine why it’s on Virgil’s playlist to begin with. There is also a vague “you” referenced like in most of Virgil’s songs and I frankly have no clue who it’s supposed to be. I’ll just list some lines that I think are important and maybe you all could help me figure it out. “Well it's a shock, shock to your soft side” “Summer moon (this is like a period of summer where its very warm and things are in bloom)” “Better, back together” “Catch your shut eyes in my room”.
12) The Good that Won’t Come out: Virgil is still worried about his dark past and how that will affect the others and Thomas. He knows that he needs to tell Thomas, but he’s worried that if he does, Thomas will only be able to see the bad things that Virgil brings with him (“I do this thing where I think I'm real sick, But I won't go to the doctor to find out about it 'Cause they make you stay real still in a real small space As they chart up your insides and put them on display. They'd see all of it, all of me, all of it” “All of the good that won't come out of me And all the stupid lies I hide behind. It's such a big mistake, Lying here in your warm embrace”). He finishes the song out by comparing himself to his past, dark side friends (“Let's talk about all our friends who lost the war” “It's all of the good that won't come out of them And all the stupid lies they hide behind”).
13) Sick Sad World: Again... I’m sorry guys but this song doesn’t seem that deep to me (at least nothing stood out. Basically, all I got is that Virgil knows he makes a lot of mistakes, but he does his best to fix them (“My head's a permanent mess And I can't think for the stress” “I close my eyes and pretend That the ground beneath me has disappeared” “Rewind and overwrite, Hope life begins at twenty-nine”). Virgil also still seems to think that he isn’t being listened to enough and that he isn’t helping as much as he wants to with the light sides (“So what, is this is as good as it gets?” “So won't you let me in”).
14) Ignorance: Another Janus song! Whose shocked? Anyone? Yeah, me neither 😂. But this one is SUPER interesting as it gives us some insight into what Janus and Virgil’s relationship was like before Virgil left. The two seemed to be very close and perhaps had similar pessimistic views on the world (“Yeah, the friends who stuck together. We wrote our names in blood”). Virgil knows that the change in him was for the better and he wants Janus to realize this too, but he isnt about to feel bad for Janus if he refuses to see the truth (“But I guess you can't accept that the change is good” “If I'm a bad person, you don't like me, Well, I guess I'll make my own way” “This is the best thing that could have happened. Any longer and I wouldn't have made it. It's not a war, no, it's not a rapture. I'm just a person, but you can't take it” “The same tricks that, that once fooled me, They won't get you anywhere. I'm not the same kid from your memory, Well, now I can fend for myself”). Now, a line that I’m sure people will see as confirmation of Ignorance being the next side, has a different meaning to me: “Ignorance is your new best friend”. To me, this proves that Ignorance is a part of Janus. Virgil believes that Janus will be stuck in the dark forever because he is ignorant to what the real world brings. Janus is so stuck in his hatred for society and his lack of trust for others that he ignores information that could prove his thoughts wrong. That is ignorance at it’s core, and Janus is being intentionally ignorant to the fact that Virgil becoming a light side was a good thing.
15) The Ice is Getting Thinner: Another song that solidifies that Virgil and Janus were actually friends at one point (“We're not the same, dear, as we used to be. The seasons have changed and so have we”). Virgil knew that him and Janus were growing apart back when he split from the dark sides and he knew it was for the better, but it still hurt him (“There was little we could say, and even less we could do, To stop the ice from getting thinner under me and you” “And it saddens me to say, But we both know, well, it's true. That the ice was getting thinner Under me and you”). This perhaps shows that the ill-will between the two is not really due to Virgil hating Janus, but instead a sort of broken heart dynamic. Virgil knew he needed to leave, but Janus may not have been ready and may not have understood why someone he cared so much for would just leave him for the others.
16) Overkill: This one seems fairly straight forward to me. Virgil is scared of the dark sides and the implications their acceptance may have for Thomas. He can feel them lurking close by and is on edge because of it. He wants to protect Thomas from them, but at the same time thinks that he may be overreacting (“I can't get to sleep. I think about the implications” “Especially at night. I worry over situations. I know we'll be alright. Perhaps it's just imagination” “Day after day it reappears. Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear. Ghosts appear and fade away” “Especially at night I worry over situations that I know will be alright. It's just overkill.”
17) Under pressure: This ones a bit hard to decipher, but I’ve got an idea. Virgil really respects and values Patton as one of Thomas’ sides, but the other dark sides seem to disagree. Virgil wishes that they would be able to see Patton in the same way that he does and perhaps then they would be accepted by Thomas (“Watching some good friends screaming "Let me out!"” “Can't we give ourselves one more chance?” “Why can't we give love that one more chance?”). Basically, I think the reason that Virgil was accepted by the light sides was because he understood Patton (love and feelings) and what he means to Thomas. Janus has now shown after being accepted that this could be the case (seeing as he was accepted only when Patton accepted him, the other sides didnt really play a part).
18) Everything is Alright: When reading my thoughts on this song, keep in mind that it is connected to the next song. Virgil basically is very anxious about menial things in life that he shouldn’t be anxious about (“Because I hate the ocean, theme parks and airplanes, Talking with strangers, waiting in line..”). Virgil doesn’t feel like things are okay and he doesn’t feel safe, but he asks the person in the song to tell him that everything is okay anyways. Now a while back, I remembered Joan mentioning in a livestream that Janus would be the one to lie to Thomas about things being alright even when they’re not, so this got me thinking. Perhaps Janus and Virgil got along so well in the past because Janus would lie to Virgil whenever he was having a panic attack in order to calm him down. Virgil may have found comfort in this as lying to himself may have been the only way to escape his episodes (“‘Someday you'll be fine..’ Yes, I'll be just fine.” “Tell me that you're alright, everything is alright. Please tell me that you're alright, everything is alright.”). Idk It just feels like Janus trying to calm Virgil down to me.
19) The Middle: (remember how I said this was connected to the above song? Yep, keep that in mind) So right after the last song, this song began to play and at first I thought the two songs were basically about the same thing. Virgil is anxious and needs reassured that things are okay. This song seemed to have a different tone though. The speaker is reassuring Virgil, but in a different way. They’re not lying to Virgil and telling him just what he wants to hear, but they are feeling with Virgil and comforting Virgil with truth and honesty (“Hey, don't write yourself off yet. It's only in your head, you feel left out” “Don't you worry what they tell themselves When you're away.” “It just takes some time, Little girl you're in the middle of the ride. Everything, everything will be just fine. Everything, everything will be alright.” “You know you're doin' better on your own” “Live right now, just be yourself. It doesn't matter if it's good enough For someone else.” “Don't worry what their bitter hearts Are gonna say”) That’s right. This song is about Patton doing the exact same thing that Janus once did for Virgil only better. Not only that, but he’s reassuring Virgil about his worries regarding the dark sides. That must sting for Janus...
20) Vindicated: I think this song takes place right after Virgil confessed his past to Thomas. He’s scared that Thomas will reject him, but he explains that he’s trying his best to be better for Thomas despite the many flaws he may have (“I am selfish I am wrong. I am right, I swear I'm right. Swear I knew it all along And I am flawed, but I am cleaing up so well”). Despite his fear of rejection he has hope that Thomas will accept him as he’s begun to see things in himself that someone (probably Patton) has seen all along (“Hope dangles on a string, Like slow-spinning redemption” “I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself”).
(And there you have it guys! I realize this one is probably just as long as the last one, so I’m sorry about that 😂. Please let me know your thoughts 💜)

To Be With You
What happens when an immortal falls in love with a mortal?
  Well nothing good.
"Roman, you're staring at him again." Patton, god of the sky, weather and truth, said.
Roman, god of the sun, day and passion, sighed dreamily. "But have you ever seen him, Pat?" He sighed again from where he lay on a fluffy cloud, looking down at the world below. "He's got the most beautiful face, and his hair! And his eyes are just perfect!" He rolled over and kicked his legs in the air like a four year old child. "He's BEAUTIFUL!!!"
Logan, god of moon, night and knowledge, looked up from his ancient Celtic scroll. "You are really quite insufferable, Roman. I actually can't recall the last time you fell so sickeningly in love with a mortal. I'd forgotten how awful it was." He said in a monotone voice from where he sat in a chair.
Patton pouted. "Oh, Logan! Be nice!!" He walked over and ruffled a very distracted Roman's hair. "Roman's in love! Remember when you were in love?" Logan looked back at his scroll and coughed, a light shade of pink dusting his face.
Patton smirked, walking over to the taller god and leaning down to bring his face close to the other's. "I believe I remember something along the lines of 'The stars aligning themselves so that we could be together for the rest of time and eternity.' Does that ring any bells, hm, Lo-Lo?"
Logan put his scroll down on a nearby table. "The only thing I recall," he pulled Patton into his lap and smiled. "Is you crying uncontrollably, love."
Roman decided to move away from the couple that was now making out and to his room. He pulled out his gazing ball, an object all gods had, and gazed lovingly at the form of his mortal love gardening and pruning rose bushes. The view wasn’t quite as lovely as it was from atop the clouds, but it would have to do for now.
His mortal was truly gorgeous. His dark raven hair was tousled by the wind and looked fluffier than anything Roman had ever seen. His pale skin reminded him of the moon’s shining surface and he wished he could touch it with his own dark hands. His eyes were the most beautiful though. His Alexandria’s genesis turning his eyes the most extraordinary shade of purple ever. They were amazing. And Roman swore if he ever saw them up close, he would fall into them.
Roman let his head rest in his arms as he looked into the ball. “My love, if only you knew what you’d done to the heart of this god…”
~~•~~
“Roman! Are you in there?” Patton’s voice came from the other side of Roman’s door, waking the God up. He had apparently drifted off while his mortal had started working his job as a seamster. His spy glass had long gone dark with lack of attention and his room had gone dark without the light of the sun.
“Yeah, I’m here!” Roman called, putting his glass ball away. He opened the door to his room. “What’s up, Sky?”
Patton smiled. “Nothing much! It’s meal time though!”
Every day, around the same time, the gods would gather up the offerings the mortals made to them.
Roman nodded and went off to gather his portion of the offerings. While they ate, Roman talked about his mortal. More like ranted, but he could hardly tell the difference.
“My heavens, Roman!” Logan rubbed the bridge of his nose as if he had a headache. “I honestly cannot wait until you inevitably outlive that puny human.”
Patton gave a little gasp. “Logan!! How could you say that?!”
“It is going to happen either way. I’m simply stating my opinion on it.” Logan sniffed. “And if it will shut Roman up, all the better, I say.”
Roman was suddenly thrust into the spiraling reality that he wouldn’t ever get to be with his mortal love.
He hardly noticed the ongoing argument between the God of the Sky and the God of the Moon as he got up from the table and left. He locked himself in his room and cried. He felt more like a child than a god. But it really did break his heart. He would never get to hold his love. He’d never get to run his fingers through that thick raven hair. He’d never get to touch his pale, fair skin. He’d never get to look into his beautiful, exquisite purple eyes.
And so Roman cried until an idea struck his mind.
~~•~~
Roman snuck around Patton’s room, and passed quietly by Logan’s study. He ran up the steps to the biggest part of the heavens and took a deep breath, swallowing his apprehension.
And Roman knocked on Life’s door.
Maybe this was a bad idea...Definitely a bad idea. I mean Life probably won’t even come to the door! He’s always so busy so-
The door swung open and Roman was face to face with the god of Life, love, and joy.
He smiled down at him. “Oh, hello Roman!”
Roman bowed down, very quickly regretting his decision to come to Life. “Greetings, Life. I’m very sorry I-”
“You can just call me Emile, Roman!” Life smiled, pulling Roman up out of his bow. “And don’t you tell me you’re sorry for bothering me! Whatever it is that’s bothering you, I’m here to help!”
Roman was once again reminded of how kind Emile was. “Right. Emile, I have...I have a request…”
Emile smiled, leading Roman inside. “A request? Oh I haven’t gotten a request since Patton begged me to make butterflies about...Oh it’s been at least 2,000 years now I guess.” He sat down on a white cushioned chair and gestured for Roman to sit too. “So tell me, dear Sun, what is your request?”
Roman shuffled his feet and sat down, his hands in his lap. “It’s sort of a big request, and I’m sure you’ll say no, but….” Roman looked down at his feet and considered lying. Patton would know if he did and then Logan would chastise him for bothering Emile with something so trivial. Roman met Emile’s shimmering eyes, solidifying his resolve. “I want you to make a new god.”
Emile looked a little shocked, his smile falling away for a moment. It returned, a hint of mischief glittering in his swirling eyes as he leaned forward on his knees. “A new god, Roman? Do you have a subject in mind, or are you just getting bored of your friends?”
Roman smiled suddenly, his chest flaring up with passion. “I do have someone in mind! He’s the most perfect person for the job, I’m sure of it! He’s kind and hardworking, and he has the most magnificent mind!”
Emile smiled and leaned back. “You’re in love with a mortal, aren’t you?”
Roman’s smile didn’t falter. “I am. And what a shame it is that the others will never know what it’s like to fall in love with imperfection!” He stood up. “I beg of you that you make my love immortal that he might live with me in the heavens!”
Emile started to laugh. It was a heavy and delighted one as he nearly fell off his chair shaking from it. “You, dear Sun,” He said, calming his voice, eyes alight with humor and color. “Are still so young!” Roman’s smile started to fade before Emile continued. “I will grant your request. I don’t usually do this, and Remy’s going to try and kill me over this, but for your love, I’ll do it. Though it will take a few days at least. Because it is your request, I will make you my assistant in creating this new god.” He leaned forward again, his ever changing and shining eyes glowing with splendor. “Now, what is the name of this mortal that has stolen your heart?”
  “Virgil Aegir.”
 ~~•~~
Roman and Emile worked hard for four whole days, Roman insisting that he had to be perfect. In time, Virgil was ready to become a god. Emile kicked him out so that the actual name and life giving process could be done without risk of messing it up.
When Roman asked about what Emile meant by giving Virgil a name, Emile smiled. “It’s what he will rule over. Your names are Sun, Day and Passion. Patton’s names are Sky, Weather and Truth. Logan’s names are Moon, Night and Knowledge. Remy’s names are Death, Balance and Justice. My names are Life, Love and Joy. As such, Virgil will receive three names, three powers, three purposes. Now go, before you get yourself hurt.”
Roman sat outside the mansion’s steps, listening to the silence of the heavens as the sun began to sink out of sight, washing the Earth in oranges and reds.. There was a sudden explosion behind him and Roman shot upright and spun around.
Emile burst out of the large doors coughing, smoke spilling out into the open air. Roman ran up the steps to help the god of Life.
Logan and Patton ran up to the smoking mansion.
“Roman!! What did you do?!” Logan demanded, racing up the steps.
Emile coughed again and waved his hand at Logan, smiling. “Oh don’t worry, Logan! It wasn’t his fault! This just happens every time I finish creating something as big as a god!”
Logan’s eyes grew wide. “A god?!”
Patton ran up the stairs, his eyes shining. “We’re going to have a new god?!” He bubbled. “Oh this is wonderful, Lo-Lo!!”
“Not when it’s obviously Roman’s fault!!” Logan argued.
Emile smiled. “Oh, dear Moon, you’re as stubborn as ever! Yes, it was my Sun that came to me with the request, but it was my choice to create him.”
“The point is that Roman bothered you! He should have never made you do something so strenuous!!”
Patton pouted. “You did this last time I asked Emile to make something, and it turned out just fine, Logan! Stop pestering Roman!”
Emile laughed, drawing the attention of the other gods. “Oh you all are still so very young!!” Colors danced in the old god’s eyes like dandelion fluff dances in the wind. “You all have much to learn about the light of your world!!”
“H-hello…?” A timid voice sounded from the doorway.
All heads turned to the small figure.
Roman could have melted under the beauty he saw before him.
His pale skin was perfect and looked softer than silk, faint, white star shaped freckles dotted his arms and cheeks and his hair looked even fluffier, the tips fading into a deep purple that reminded Roman of secrets that had yet to be uncovered. He wore a long cloak that was purple on the outside and contained galaxies swirling on the inside. His deep purple shirt wrapped around him, sewn with silver thread. A silver belt hung around his waist and tight black pant disappeared into knee high purple and silver boots. His shirt’s long, loose purple sleeves were sheer from the shoulder down and long, flowing streams of sheer purple fabric tied themselves to his wrists and vanished behind his back, presumably held and hidden under his belt. And his eyes...His eyes lay unchanged, a beautiful, striking amethyst, so clear and deep they seemed nearly otherworldly.
He was the most magnificent person Roman had ever laid eyes on.
Roman walked up to him and held his perfect face in his hands. “My darling love, you’re here!” As Roman bent down with every intention to kiss the smaller figure, he pulled away, placing his hands firmly on Roman’s chest.
“Who the hell even are you?” He said, his perfect eyes flitting around anxiously. “Or where am I?!” The boy started to stumble backwards, panic clearly settling in. “What the fuck is going on here?!”
Emile gently moved Roman aside and grabbed the boy’s hands, pulling them up and smiling warmly. “My dear Star, you’ve been plucked up from the earth and been created more! Someone here loved you enough to set me upon the task of creating a new god out of you, that they might be with you!” Emile quietly took him down the steps and, with a flick of his hand, a new room popped up, this one covered in tiny stars and a glass roof. He took him over to it, the others following behind like a lost herd of sheep.
“You are the god of the Stars.” Emile said, gesturing up at the stars in the sky above them, just starting to blink into existence in the sun’s absence. He turned back to the boy and moved his pale hands to cover his perfect lips. “You are the god of Secrets.” Emile let the pale hands fall away from the star-freckled face. “And…” He threw his arms wide, his smile never faltering. “You are the god of Time!”
The boy’s eyes went wide in fear. He started to shake his head. “No, no, no no no!” He started slowly. “No, I’m not a god! I’m a seamster that lives in a small town!”
Emile lightly shook his head. “I’m sorry, dear Star, but your life before is over now.”
He ripped his hands from Emile’s light and kind grasp. “No!! Stop calling me that!! My name is Virgil Aegir and I am not a god!!” Virgil locked his hands in his hair.
Emile’s kind smile turned sad. “Your name is still Virgil, my dear. But what is done cannot be undone. You are a god. And in time, you’ll do wonderfully at your job.”
Virgil crouched down to the ground, trying to get away from everything. “No I don’t want to do this!! I never wanted to be a god!!”
Emile’s smile finally fell away. “If you must search for someone to blame, look toward the Sun. He requested that I bring you into the heavens so he might never know the pain of losing you.” Emile started walking back to his mansion, pausing and placing a hand on Roman’s shoulder. “I should have seen this coming. I’m sorry.”
As soon as Emile disappeared through his doors, Logan turned on Roman. “You absolute fool!!” He yelled. “You brainless excuse for a god!! Look at the mess you’ve made!!” He threw a hand in the direction of the paralyzed god silently panicking as tears dripped down his face.
“Logan, stop!!” Patton said, trying to pull the arm off of Roman’s shoulder. “He didn’t mean any harm!!”
Logan turned on the sky god. “Well he caused it!!” He shouted.
Roman’s anger was starting to flare. “You wouldn’t understand!! And you will never understand!!” He pointed angrily and Patton who had started backing away. “You don’t know what it’s like to be afraid that the one person you love more than yourself,” He jabbed a finger at Logan’s chest hard. “Will die knowing that you never will!!”
“It wasn’t your choice to make!!” Logan yelled.
“You would have done the same if Patton was mortal!!”
“But Patton isn’t mortal and will never be mortal!”
“But that’s not the point! I did it because I couldn’t bear the thought of losing him!!’
“The point is, Roman, that you made a mistake! And now someone is hurting because of it!!!”
“HEY!!!” The voice drew their attention to the puffy-eyed god of stars. “Was anyone going to show me how the hell to do this?!!” He shouted.
The two arguing gods stopped and looked over to Virgil. “I don’t care why I’m here anymore! All that matters is I’m here! And I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing or where I am even!”
Logan turned and walked away. “I have a task that requires my attention.” He said stiffly, Patton running after him.
“I guess it’s up to you to show me around then, Princey.” Virgil said, crossing his arms.
  Roman nearly sputtered. “Princey?”
Virgil flushed slightly, hardening his eyes and looking away. “Your outfit reminds me of a prince’s, that’s all. Don’t read into it.”
Roman chuckled slightly. “I make no promises, my love.”
“Don’t call me that.” Virgil said. “I’m not your ‘love’, got it?”
“As you wish, my Star. Shall I show you the ropes of the heavens, so to speak?" Roman asked.
Virgil blew a piece of his hair up out of his face with his breath and rubbed at one of his eyes. "Sure." He finally said, uncrossing his arms and trying to force a smile. "I'm here now, aren't I? Might as well try and enjoy it."
~~•~~
“Emile!!” Emile heard his name booming from inside the place he called home.
Emile sighed, knowing who it would be. “That’s my name, Rem! Don’t wear it out!”
Remy materialized in Emile’s living room pinching the bridge of his nose. “I don’t got time for your cute nonsense, babe.” Emile turned away from the god of Death and focused his attention on making tea. “You made another god without talking to me about it first, didn’t you hun?” Despite the pet names, Remy’s voice was anything but sweet and sympathetic.
Emile smiled, focusing on the tea kettle. Sure, he could just make some tea materialize out of the air, but he liked the traditional ways. “I did make a god. It was about time we got a god to rule over time anyway!” Emile held up two different plants. “Mint or vanilla, sweets?”
Remy waved his hand. “Vanilla, love. And that’s totally not the point!! You took a human to make this god!” Emile turned around, expecting to see Remy pacing again. Though he hardly caught himself as the god of Death was hardly six inches away from his face, ever blind eyes brimming with fury. “Remember what happened last time you did that, Life?”
Emile recalled the memory very clearly. His smile was sad, just a ghost of what it had been before. “I do…”
The kettle behind Emile started whistling.
Remy reached past the god of Life and picked up the kettle. “So you know the mess you’ve made, huh?” He moved over to the counter and poured the boiling water into each of the ancient Chinese pottery cups that Logan had gifted Life one year.
Emile sighed. “Listen, I think it could be different this time!!” He crossed over to where Death had sat down with his cup of vanilla tea. He accepted the cup of peach lemon tea that Remy held out in his free hand and sat down across from Death. “Thanks, honey.” He took a sip before continuing. “Listen, I know I’ve messed up in the past, but I have a really good feeling about Virgil! And you know…” Emile crossed over to where Remy was and slid himself into his lap. “Everything worked out just fine last time, too.”
Remy sighed. “I guess it was okay in the end... but that doesn’t mean you should be doing it all the time, babe.”
Life planted a small kiss on Death’s cheek. “I know.”

Roman had been showing Virgil around the heavens.
“This is where the Sky sleeps!”
  “Wait isn’t that just night?”
“No, the Night sleeps over there.”
“But isn’t it day when the night sleeps?”
“No, I’m the day and I sleep over there.”
“So when you sleep it’s night?”
“Sometimes. I tend to take little naps throughout the entirety of a day rather than sleep in one sitting like humans do.”
“But when you sleep it becomes night?”
“What does this have anything to do with where the sky sleeps?”
It was filled with questions upon questions upon questions. Some of them Roman didn’t know how to answer.
“What happens if you fall off the clouds?”
“I’m not...sure. No one’s ever fallen off the clouds before…”
“Does time flow differently up here?”
“I don’t believe so...But I could be wrong. I’ve never been a mortal after all.”
  “How many gods are there?”
“I’m not actually sure. I know of at least six now, including you and me, but now that I think about it, there could be tens more…”
Roman showed him his favorite spots, watching the new god look around curiously. In fact, Virgil was so consumed by what was going on around him, he had forgotten what had even happened to him.
Roman looked up at the sky and smiled. “It’s time now, Virgil!”
Virgil looked over at the taller god. “What? Is something cool about to happen?”
Roman smiled. “I guess! It’s nearly dawn, which means you need to put the stars to rest, Vee!”
Virgil started to panic. “I can’t do that!! Who do you think I am?! A god??!”
Roman stared blankly at his love. “Yes.”
Virgil laughed demonically. “Oh shit!! Haha!! I am a god, aren’t I?!”
Roman stared at Virgil. “It’s alright, my darling! This is what you have been remade to do!”
Virgil looked at him with panic stricken eyes. “But I don’t know how to do it!!” Virgil had grown comfortable around Roman. There had been points during the night cycle where Virgil had to put his trust in the sun god. He was also coming to realize he quite liked the taller god, though he’d never admit such a thing. Virgil grabbed Roman by the shoulders and quietly lay his forehead against his chest. "I don't know what I'm doing…" He said, trying to calm down.
Roman considered bringing the smaller god in closer, but decided he'd made enough bad choices for one day. He held Virgil at arms length and bent down to meet his panicked purple gaze. "Listen, Virgil," He started, smiling a very soft and comforting smile. "I can try and help you as much as possible, but you can do it. I believe in you! There's a reason Emile agreed to make you into a god, little starling! You'll do wonderful!"
Virgil seemed to consider Roman's words for a moment before nodding. "Alright…" he said, a minor tremor in his voice. "Tell me what I should do." He turned away and faced the sky. "I'll put the stars away, or whatever."
Roman smiled, his eyes sparkling. It was something small that, in hindsight, might have made Virgil slip just slightly deeper in love with the god of the sun. "That's my starry knight!"
~~•~~
Virgil had managed to put the stars to rest with a bit of effort that night. He had decided to retire to his room after that and slept.
Months had passed now, and Logan was starting to ease up on both Roman and Virgil. He had been completely cold toward Virgil, nearly ignoring his presence entirely. Whenever Logan and Roman had to interact, it always turned into a shouting match, each much too prideful to fess up that they were wrong.
It had been taking a toll on Patton and after a few weeks forced the two opposite gods to sit down and work things out.
It was an entire day and night that they were gone trying to make amends and the mortals thought the world was ending when the moon fell over the sun, casting a shadow across the Earth.
Logan and Roman emerged from Patton’s house and smiled. Roman walking over to Patton to apologise for his behavior and Logan crossing over to Virgil.
"I'm very truly apologetic for my abhorrent behavior towards you. You, like Roman and Patton, are a god. And should be treated as such. There is little excuse for my actions and I beg your forgiveness."
Virgil backed up slightly, waving his hands and an awkward smile alighting upon his face. "Ah, no! It's all fine! I forgive you, Logan!"
Logan let himself out of his apologetic bow. “This is a very pleasant outcome, I believe!” Logan respectfully held out his hand to the smaller god and smiled. “I look forward to spending more time with you, Virgil!”
Virgil would have missed the way Roman smiled fondly at the small god of stars.
Roman had only fallen deeper in love with Virgil since he’d arrived. And he’d had a good amount of time to reflect on the mistakes he had made. He knew he had been wrong. He wished he could take it all back. Seeing how what he’d done effected Virgil, it made his chest burn with guilt. He never wanted anything like this to happen. All he had ever really wanted was to be with his love. Logan had argued that Roman would just move on and fall in love with another mortal again after Virgil had died, but Roman didn’t think so.
Sure it had happened in the past, but this time felt different. Roman hardly had known anything about Virgil before he went to Emile. Every other time Roman would have become obsessed with wanting to know more about him from afar.
But he didn’t want that. He hadn’t wanted that. He had wanted to know him up close. He wanted to talk to him. He wanted to see him. He wanted to hear him. He wanted to laugh with him. He wanted to know all the edges and corners of his mind for himself. He wanted to know him.
And he knew he didn’t want to have Virgil all for himself. He had experienced ‘love’ like that before, and this was not that. He wanted to watch Virgil grow and be free. And in a few more months time, Roman would come to realize that he loved Virgil so much, that he would be willing to let go of the pretty god and never see him again if that was what he had wished.
~~•~~
It was a sunny and warm day as Virgil and Roman sat on the fluffy clouds, drinking in the sunlight. They had grown very used to each other- Roman having fallen deeper in love with the god of the stars, and Virgil finding himself on a deep and irreversible spiral of adoration for the god of the sun.
Virgil had also become very close with the other two gods, and had found himself lacking the desire to return home. There wasn’t any way for him to return home anyway, so why bother wanting to? He liked it here. Quite a lot too.
It was this fateful day that Virgil met the god of Death, Balance and Justice.
Roman opened his eyes at the sound of someone approaching, turning to find the god of Death making his way over to the pair of smaller gods.
He instantly stood up in respect. “Death! What brings you this way? Is there anything we may assist you with?”
Death waved his hand at Roman. “Honey, please. You know you can call me Remy! And besides, I’m not here for you.”Remy turned to Virgil, who was still sitting comfortably on the cloud. “Get up, babe, I got something big to tell you about.” Remy’s blind eyes stared eerily at Virgil.
Virgil stood up and followed Remy as he started to walk away. It was strange. He felt like he should have been unsettled by the god of Death, but he wasn’t. There was a strange warmth about the tall god that made Virgil feel comfortable.
Roman walked with them as Remy began to talk, heading in the direction of Logan’s study. “Now I know that what happened to you was, like, totally unfair and shit, and I’ve been looking into a way to totally make it completely fair! Well, I had Emmy help too of course, I mean I kinda hate reading so why would I waste time doing that?” Remy entered the study where they found Emile sitting in a large chair reading an old book. “Anyway, hun, you can go ahead and take a seat wherever I guess and I can tell you the fab news!”
Virgil sat down, giving Roman a confused side glance. Roman shrugged his shoulders in response and sat down next to him.
Remy clapped his hands together, the bright smile on his face a contrast to his drab outfit. Roman was once again reminded of what a cheery fellow Death actually was. “Alright! So We-” Remy cut off, his dead gaze turning to Roman. “I’m not so sure you should be here, sunshine. Seeing as you were-”
Virgil placed a hand on Roman’s. “No. He stays.” His crystal eyes were solid and bright. Roman didn’t know exactly where his passion had come from, but it was clear that Virgil wasn’t going to bend on the subject.
Roman’s face lit up slightly when Virgil didn’t let go of his hand, instead opting to link their fingers together.
Remy shrugged and continued his animated talking. “As I was saying so fabulously!! With a bit of research and persistence, we found you a way home, mr. dark and stormy!!”
  The world froze.
The air around them all felt so fragile, like it would shatter to pieces if any of them breathed.
Somewhere, a child was laughing at daisys spinning in the air.
Somewhere, someone was celebrating their wedding.
Somewhere, a grandmother and her best friend shared an old crinkling joke, whispy and light.
Somewhere, a father was singing their child to sleep.
And Virgil could hear it all as if he had been the people themselves.
Everything was so very very wide and quiet and frozen.
  Virgil had a way home.
“W-what…?” Virgil finally managed to let the words escape his mouth.
Remy smiled, bouncing a little. “You get to go home, honey cakes!!”
Emile stood up and smiled softly. “It’s a little more complicated than that, but essentially yes. Me and Remy found you a way home.”
Roman’s heart was beating out of his chest. Or was it stuck stone still? He couldn’t tell…
Virgil hardly heard Remy and Emile listing off how it would work, how he would be able to go home.
“Can I…” Virgil cut in harshly. “Can I just get some space to think about this?”
Remy stopped his rambling as Emile smiled. “Yes of course, Star. We will leave you to your decision.”
Life and Death left the study hand in hand, and as Roman started to get up, Virgil’s grip on his hand tightened.
“Wait..” He said softly. “I want you to stay…”
Roman sat sat back down and tried to meet Virgil’s gaze, his own golden eyes laced with concern and worry.
Virgil had the chance to go home. He had ruined his life once already, Roman wasn’t about to let himself ruin it again.
“So how soon will you be leaving?” Roman asked softly.
Panic struck Virgil’s amethyst eyes like lightning. “What?!” He stood up fast, almost knocking the chair over, letting Roman’s hand fall away from his. “What makes you think that I’m leaving?!”
“You finally have the chance to go home! I can’t keep you from that again. I won’t let myself. Besides, you had an entire life down there!” Roman stood up from his chair.
“So what?! I have an entire life up here too! There’s Patton and Logan and- and you!! I don’t want to leave you…” Virgil stepped closer to the taller god, and hesitantly moved his hand toward Roman’s.
Roman, as oblivious as ever, continued. “Patton and Logan would be fine! They’ll probably be ecstatic for you when they find out that you’ll be able to go home!! They care about you too and want to see you happy!” Roman stepped away and started pacing.
“That’s not exactly what I meant, Roman. I could leave them and be fine eventually.” Virgil stepped closer again, catching Roman’s arms. He sighed and rested his head against the god of the Sun’s chest. He let his hands travel down his arms and quietly hold Roman’s dark hands. Virgil thought of his mundane life before. He thought of the way he would never get to be who he wanted to be as a human, how as a human he would be told that he should marry a girl and have children to help with the family business. He thought of how he had longed to be something more, do something more. He thought of how ever since he came to be a god, he’d been happier. How Roman had always been there to help him when he didn’t understand what to do. How Roman was always there. How he would laugh with him, and how his smile made his heart thunder in his chest, how he longed to never part from him. Virgil thought about how he loved to be a god with Roman by his side.
Virgil breathed out, his eyes watering slightly at the thought of having to leave him. “I don’t want to leave you, Roman…” He wrapped his arms around his waist and leaned in more. “I think I’m more scared of losing you than I am of going back…I know I told you time and time again that I didn’t want to be with you, but…”
Virgil looked up to meet Roman’s eyes, and found himself unable to speak. He could no longer find the words to express what he was feeling.
So instead he brought his hands to cradle Roman’s face, and silently he kissed him.
It was sweet and Virgil thought that Roman tasted like sunshine and sweet lemons and honey. It was wonderful and felt so very right and pure.
Roman’s hands wrapped around Virgil’s small waist and, as surprised as he had been at first, he kissed Virgil back. He nearly whined out loud when they finally parted, but he let it happen.
Virgil’s face was flushed as he quickly realized what he’d done. “I-I’m sorry, I really don’t know what I was thinking- Actually I don’t really think I was at all but-”
Roman quietly brushed his hand across Virgil’s cheek, bringing the smaller god’s rambling to rest. “Does this mean you’re staying…?” Roman smiled softly.
Virgil returned the  smile, holding Roman’s hand against his cheek and melting into the warmth of his skin. “Yeah...I think it does, Princey…!”
Their lips met again and they melted into one another, paying no mind to the world around them, the only thing between them being their own beating hearts, alive with passion abound and secrets untold.
So what happens when an immortal falls in love with a mortal?
  Well…
Ask the stars and he’ll tell you.
Holy heck so uh...I got really carried away with this one. So sorry it took so long to get out! And I know I added probably a lot more details than needed and it’s probably not as shippy as you’d like, but I really hope you enjoy it!!

IM REALLY INTO CAT DESIGNS CAN YOU TELL???
anyways...
Sanders Sides, but they're all kitties!!!! Because of the fact that they're all “imaginary” or like, concepts as opposed to physical beings, they all have two designs. One for imaginary (left), with colors, that aren't possible, and one for reality (right).
also, i totally didn't do this because i have an idea for a warrior cats fic but
So this is my idea for the Sides as Warrior Cats. They aren’t the leaders of the clans or anything but there is a storyline. Basically, the journey to the lake prophecy but with these 4.
Logan is Lightstep
Roman is Rowanheart
Patton is Puddlesplash
Virgil is Ivystorm
So now onto the part of the au where we get some backstory.
(i wrote this before the dark sides were introduced, so im going to add them in)
Lightstep is part of WindClan. He's a moor-runner, one of the more experienced, and is training an apprentice, Willowpaw. His family mostly left him and his brother (Sandcloud) to be themselves, and they grew reserved but close. Lightstep is the tallest of the four, and easily the fastest.
Rowanheart is from ThunderClan. He is the kit of the leader and deputy of his clan, along with his twin brother Amberclaw. He had a very connected family, they were constantly playing and hunting together. He’s a warrior and the strongest of the four.
Puddlesplash is from RiverClan. He became a medicine cat apprentice after his father was killed in battle. His brother (Rainfur) continues to be a warrior. Puddlesplash is technically the smallest, but his fluffy fur makes him the second smallest. He likes to take care of other cats, no matter what clan they are in.
Ivystorm is from ShadowClan. His littermates both died when they were kits, and only Ivykit survived. His mother (Rainflower) isn't the nicest, and he doesn't know who his father is. He is withdrawn from most other cats, including the other three at first, excepting a few. Ivystorm is the smallest of the four and the stealthiest.
So for the story, it starts in the forest territories. Everything is pretty much normal, some minor fights but thats it. The biggest news is that near RiverClan there was an oil spill, but they’re dealing with it. When StarClan cats visit the four chosen, and tell them about the new prophecy, they’re sceptical, but eventually band together to save the clans.
The story basically is following the same line as the second arc, with a great journey, and going to the sun-drown-place. Obviously, these four are the chosen cats, and they need to learn to get along to save their clans from the destruction of the forest. There are some changes, no other cats secretly join them, only the four of them go, but the overall storyline stays the same.
In two-leg-place, they get Thomas, a begal house cat as a guide and friend. His friends include Talyn, Joan, Remy and Emile, whose owner is a vet, and helps the group out when one of them is injured in a dog attack. (Talltail and Jake vibes anyone?) Thomas volunteers to escort them to the ocean, and he also takes them to the foot of the mountains.
They still meet Midnight the badger, shes the best character in the whole series im not going to replace her.
When they do all return and find the lake, the four of them agree that no matter what happenns between the rest of the clans, they will remain friends.
Some other scenes and ministories I want to do as well:
Rowanheart and Amberclaw have a brambleclaw and hawkfrost moment. Amberclaw is basically all about the dark forest, and Rowanheart is forced to kill him in self-defence.
A cat with a half burned face who calls himself Janus shows up to tell them about the coming eclipse and how StarClan will abandon them but hes a liar.
Turns out Ivystorms dad was actually a leader of ShadowClan, but died before he was born. He was super evil and tries to recruit Ivystorm into the dark forest, then he leads the dark forest attack.
I want to do the Prophecy of Three, but I’m not sure how. My best idea so far is Puddlesplash helps a rogue deliver 3 kittens, but then she dies, and he has to then deal with them and the other three help. Maybe they each take one back to their clan because Puddlesplash is a medicine cat and can’t care for kittens without suspicion or something. Maybe they actually are Puddlesplash’s kits, in which case same deal. Maybe when Thomas went to the ocean with them, he became destined to find the three kits and bring them to the clans. Idk but i want to do something with this eventually.
The other sides, as well as Thomas and crew, Emile, and Remy Here!!
