New Winx Design: Personal Thoughts Because Why Not lol
Aisha:
❤️ love the dreads and her face shape is so cute! It looks like she has defined abs which is cool if she's meant to be particularly more fit.
💔 her outfit is plain compared to the other girls. It doesn't really have a personality to it other than she's sporty and the bright colours make it less cool as well. Aisha deserves better, her outfit shouldn't look like that of a background character!
Bloom
❤️ she looks just like her classic design! Although I prefer the fashion of the original Winx, for what this new Winx is going for, it's not bad. I like the colours!
💔 The bracelets and necklaces make her outfit look boho which doesn't fit Bloom. I'm also questionable on the plaid leggings, I can see how they work but I'd maybe go with a solid colour instead. I'm also confused about what that translucent thing over her right hand is?? But I can go without it.
Flora
❤️ Although I can't make out the whole silhouette, the style works for this iteration of Winx. It's more boho and the flower motif with the sleeves and frills are fun and creative!
💔 I prefer her classic eye shape much more, her eyes look too big here. I see some frill poking out above the belt and I'm going to hope that was an error because it'd be an awkward look. The belt could also be cuter or maybe replaced with some delicate chains/beads! I also think the top green part of her dress overwhelms the design and I'd make her hoop earrings gold instead.
Musa
❤️ I love this cool hair style and her outfit lives up to the fashion of classic Winx imo! I love the cool short sleeve jacket and vest with the big choker! Almost everything about this fit slays!
💔 the only things I don't like are the frilly top and the striped waistband. The top adds an unnecessary element of femininity that doesn't suit Musa and was something I didn't like being integrated into her design over the course of Winx. It could be a cropped tee instead! The waistband could also just be a solid purple.
Stella
❤️....
💔 I'm sorry but I find this Stella to be a serious down grade. Her style is very plain and uncreative for someone who's supposed to be the most fashion savvy. I also find it cliche to give her this pink preppy look because she's the "girly one" when her past design was so transcendent. I can see a colourful beaded bracelet too which makes her outfit look more childish, especially when that's the only accessory she has besides the shades. Her head also looks much bigger than everyone else's???
Techna
❤️ probably my favourite of the redesigns, I just love the commitment to the alternative neon punk aesthetic! The robotic details on her sleeves and tights are so cool and I love the overall metallic texture of her outfit. I like that they gave her bright makeup as well, she looks badass and the most modernized!
💔 no real complaints! I just hope the shoes are just as good lol

Albums of 2023 part 2
And so, on from part 1, we continue. This is more dreamy synth-dub that sits perfectly next to the Harrow album: Richard Norris is another artist with an extraordinarily long and illustrious career but who also has never lost the exploratory urge and total delight in sonic finesse.
Honestly Uruguayan-in-Ireland Lila Tirando a Violeta is right up there with the very best of the "deconstructed club" generation - dark, gothic, complex, VERY WEIRD - and this collab with Berliner Sin Maldita is up there with her best. It's really, REALLY intense!
Just impossibly beautiful elegies from ambient harpist Mary Lattimore which builds towards the final track collaboration with Slowdive's Rachel Goswell that is so lovely it will single handedly bring back swooning as a popular pastime.
Officially an EP but there's enough here to cement Nia Archives's place as a heavyweight - add "Off Wiv Ya Headz" and that Jorja Smith remix, and she's had a humdinger of a 2023....
Saw some discourse suggesting that Burna Boy is resting on his laurels here, but I don't hear it. Maybe it's the fact that the cover looks dashed-off? But musically, this bangs: it expertly joins so many dots but keeps his voice and personality right at the heart of it.
I mean come on there was no way a collab between Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist was going to be anything but good, right? Just purest essence of deep and dreamy stoner hip hop. Yet another small (27min) but beautifully formed album - definitely a trend there.
Feels kind of (literally) sacrilegious to say I prefer Cleo Sol's more personal, less scriptural records (e.g. Rose in the Dark) - and this is, top to bottom, a gospel album - but the conviction to her performance and the whole realisation of it here is still really magical.
From Coventry via Skopje, man like NOT_MDK's first album in 23 years, and he's zooming into the deep flows that join grime and dubstep into the longer, deeper electronic funk continuum... These tracks are so crisp and crunchy!
She's from Turkey but Ahu's been plugged into the London Plastic People / NTS / etc scene for years - file this with Yazmin Lacey and similar LDN soul-jazz, also it's very Boho and vibesy and incensey, definitely one to light your best candles for.
Can't remember who put me on to this, possibly Radio 3? Anyway if cold wet misty Scottish hillsides are your jam Claire M Singer has you covered - these slower-than-slowly unfolding organ-led pieces practically smell of wet moss, and are extremely beautiful.
He's lent vocals to a who's who of electronic music, but it turns out Paul St Hilaire's own studio craft is the equal of just about any of them - this is just a stunning, ocean-deep album of dub abstraction and subtly potent lyricism.
Icelander Eva Jóhannsdóttir aka EVA808 has already made a name in the dubstep/grime world but this is her really spreading her creative wings. Mad psychedelia, elemental abstraction, movie-theme composition - there's not much she can't do. Big things beckon!
There's still SO much to say about amapiano, and so much incredible UK, SA and wider world stuff last year (this isn't even the only great DJ Maphorisa album - he had THREE out in 2023, including a mini album with Shino Kikai and a 25-track one with fellow originator Kabza De Small!!). Suffice to say this has gorgeous songs, primal grooves, endlessly sophisticated mixdowns and bass that'll take your breath away.
Just gonna link to my review for this one (it's got the music embedded) - but TL;DR Darren J Cunningham aka Actress is the holy prophet of the era of enshittification, yet for all that his music is constantly "off" and made for a world that is "off", he alchemises it into real gold.
Yeah I'm going to be THAT space-jazz hipster and say this is the record I wish Andre3000 (who is on it, and Carlos Niño co-produced his album) had made. It's just a more lavish, free, FUN way to cavort with the five-dimensional fractal machine elves.
Zoning in on the platonic breakbeat mathematics that underly Jersey / B'more club Chicago hip house, UK rave, trip hop etc, Bored Lord could seem arch or retro if her beats weren't so gloriously functional and bumping.
Fed up of generic records? You will never EVER find another one that sounds like IFS MA. Polish abstract slightly Autechre-y footwork / drum'n'bass with Japanese rapper MA sounding like a cyborg beat poet Taliban Trim and I.... 🤯
Every man jack and their dog are doing high bpm retro rave lately but you can trust Meemo Comma to put a fresh and uneasy twist on it. These tracks will get you proper buzzing up loud! I got to DJ for her live performance of this at Spiritland earlier in the year, hearing them on that system was a real treat.
You get a twofer with this one. Phil Kieran's ode to Belfast is gorgeous in studio form here, but he also recorded and released a version with the Ulster Orchestra that single handedly revivifies the idea of electronic music done classical style!
Two true underground troupers teaming up here - Jordan GCZ from Juju & Jordash and David "Move D" Moufang with some otherworldly good-dream ambient, deep house and space-soul jams heavy on the Fender Rhodes, fuzzy reverberation and sensually sweeping portamento.
My musical safe place for so much of this year. Brooklyn "electronic jam band" Purelink somehow burrowed into electronic music history and found the softest, happiest, warmest fur lined chamber and then invited us in. I cannot emphasise enough how LOVELY this record is.
More modular synth grooves from E Ruscha aka Secret Circuits, but no over-indulgence here and the grooves REALLY DO GROOVE. Trippy as a weasel circus and twice as funky.
Talking of trippy, here's Optimo Music's second acid-drenched entry, from the man formerly known as TB Arthur and the mighty Magda trading as Blotter Trax, it's a kind of parallel universe early 80s alt disco where everything gurgles and melts.
More from South Africa - King Mzaiza Sound via the reliably tough Parisian PSSNGR label - not 100% sure what you'd call this though it definitely has some gqom sonics, some trap drums, and some strident rap vocals... It's HARD AS NAILS is what it is.
EVEN HARDER - Nyege Nyege brought us a sampler of this (and I don't use mental health language lightly) FUCKING MENTAL shrieking, raging, solvent-huffing sound from São Paulo stewarded by the young DJ K, and it's extremely funky and scarily thrilling.
OK there we go, part three is here.....

How to Determine Your Fashion Style
Ever felt overwhelmed by the endless fashion trends and styles? Wondering which one is right for you? Figuring out your personal fashion style can feel like a daunting task, but it’s an essential step to building a wardrobe that not only looks great but reflects your unique personality. This guide will help you uncover your fashion style and create a wardrobe you feel confident in.
Understanding Your Personality
Your fashion style should align with who you are as a person. Take a moment to reflect on your personality traits, values, and lifestyle. Are you someone who loves simplicity, or do you enjoy bold, creative expressions? Understanding these traits can help shape your fashion choices.
Style influences can also come from your profession, hobbies, and cultural background. For example, a creative individual might lean towards eclectic, artistic styles, while a professional working in a corporate environment may prefer more classic, tailored looks.
Analysing Your Wardrobe
One of the easiest ways to start discovering your fashion style is by taking stock of your current wardrobe. Create a list or simply take a good look at what you already own. Identify patterns in colours, fabrics, and silhouettes. Do you tend to gravitate towards certain shades or textures? Perhaps you’re drawn to soft fabrics like cotton and silk, or maybe you love structured jackets and bold colours.
Comfort and fit are equally important. Pay attention to the pieces you wear most often. These are usually the ones that feel good and flatter your body shape. If you love how something makes you feel, it’s a sign you’re on the right track to discovering your style.
Exploring Different Fashion Styles
Once you’ve reflected on your personality and wardrobe, explore different fashion styles to see what resonates with you. Here are some popular options:
Classic: Timeless and elegant, classic styles never go out of fashion. Think tailored suits, button-down shirts, and neutral colours.
Bohemian: Free-spirited and eclectic, the boho style is inspired by nature and ethnic cultures. Expect flowy dresses, fringed accessories, and earthy tones.
Minimalist: Simple, clean lines and neutral colours define minimalist style. It’s perfect for those who prefer a sleek, understated look.
Vintage: Retro styles from past decades are making a comeback. From 1950s swing dresses to 1970s bell-bottom jeans, vintage styles bring a nostalgic flair to your wardrobe.
Androgynous: If you enjoy blending masculine and feminine elements, this gender-fluid style focuses on boxy silhouettes and neutral tones.
Don’t be afraid to explore other styles like sporty, preppy, or edgy. These may offer elements that complement your personality and existing wardrobe.
Experimenting and Finding Your Niche
The key to developing your personal style is to experiment. Step out of your comfort zone and try new looks. Whether it’s adding a pop of colour or incorporating bold accessories, experimentation allows you to refine your style over time.
Confidence and individuality are crucial. The clothes you wear should make you feel like the best version of yourself. Fashion is all about self-expression, so embrace styles that resonate with you, even if they’re not trending.
You can also look for inspiration from fashion bloggers, influencers, and magazines. Following fashion icons will give you fresh ideas and help you see how others interpret different styles.

Could you expand on how you think Ravens chaveater has changed from the show? I started reading NTT after your comic guide and she still seems to behave somewhat the same way so maybe im just missing something. This is fully in good faith btw not trying to like say youre wrong or anything <3
Yes! Sorry this one took me a bit. Trying to get my thoughts in order. I watched the animated show as a kid, got into comics later, and I thought the differences between Raven in the show and in New Teen Titans were so huge and clear that I'd never really tried putting it to words before.
Context for everyone: imo the original version of Raven existed from her introduction in New Teen Titans 1980 to the early 2000s, before they heavily changed her for the 2003 cartoon, and then that popular depiction bled into her comics counterpart ever since.
So I think the best thing is to just contrast NTT Raven and animated Raven. I'm going to start with three concrete differences:
Ages. Raven, like most of the team, is notably younger in the show than NTT. I don't think the show ever declared ages, but they definitely come across as in their young/mid teens to me--teenagers, but still kids. On the flip side, Raven was already ~18 when introduced in the comics. NTT is very much a story about young adults (plus their kid teammate Changeling), and that's inherently a different vibe.
Style. Animated Raven is ultimate goth girl, dark and edgy. NTT Raven is more boho in style, wears a lot of bright or light colors, is vegetarian, etc. The costuming here isn't so much the important part as that personal style is a fundamental part of character design.
Powers. Both Ravens have general magic powers including various utilities like teleportation. But her primary power in the show was a newly invented telekinetic one, visually represented by turning things black. That didn't exist in the original comics. NTT focused largely on her empathic and healing powers: she can sense people's pain, and she can take that pain into herself to heal them. iirc I think she heals at some point in the show, but it's a minor piece, whereas it's her Main Thing in the comics run.
(Tangent here: most of these changes have very clear reasoning for fitting with the show. The characters are younger because it's for a younger audience and has a wackier tone. Raven was given a new fight-based power because it's an actiony cartoon with lots of fighting. But the goth thing seems purely by choice.)
Those three things are all in some ways aesthetic, but each one influences or reflects her personality as well. And they come together to indicate the overall character. So, to the slightly more subjective analysis:
I would say animated Raven is defined by being monotone, wry and sarcastic, secretive, and reserved.
I would say NTT Raven is defined by being gentle, compassionate, shy, and reserved.
The only thing in common on those lists is "reserved"; they're both introverts. They do have other personality details in common: sometimes feeling overwhelmed by their empathic powers, keeping friends at arm's length out of fear, sometimes coming off as exceptionally mysterious.
But they're very different character concepts! Animated Raven is the snarky goth girl; NTT Raven is the sweet wallflower. Suppressing her every emotion is a key element of Raven's character concept in the show, but not so present in the comics. Constantly taking other's pain onto herself is a key element of Raven in NTT, but not really part of the show.
Animated Raven is prickly, deadpan in her humor, has a lot of defenses to get through; she can never truly emote because of her powers. NTT Raven is earnest, keeps herself separate mostly just because she's shy, and doesn't have to worry about expressing herself when she feels confident enough to do so.
You may disagree with this reading! Personality analysis is always subjective! It's also possible that the aura of mystery around Raven early in NTT obscures some of these traits until later!
But imo, they are very, very different characters.
And after the show started airing, I see a distinct shift in Raven's comic appearances to match. She's aged down to be younger than she ever was, ~16 instead of long-since an adult. She's more snarky, less sweet. She adopts the goth thing. And her visual design has slowly shifted away from its first incarnation as well.
To end on a note of pure personal opinion: I love both versions. I was obsessed with Raven from the show as a kid. I adore the Raven in the New Teen Titans comics. But I kinda wish they had never been blended together. Goth Raven is cool, but her becoming the overriding default has wiped out the old Raven entirely, and I miss that sweet girl </3
#*#ask#anon#*dc#dc#dc comics#teen titans#teen titans 2003#new teen titans#raven#side note i am THRILLED to hear someone is using the rec list you don't even know#i hope you are having a good time with comics!!#the titans are the best and i just want everyone to read them <333

my prediction is that hipster is gonna make a comeback sometime this decade. it wont be the same, more an evolved hipster, but still recognizable. i imagine that people will be able to style plaid in a way that suits their own aesthetic. like for the emos theres already punk fashion which to my knowledge incorporates plaid in a way thats edgy and cool. ive seen some pretty cute scarves that a kawaii bitch would die to get. ive also seen cute beanies with pins and cat ears. aswell as nerd glasses (those big squarish ones) that are all sorts of decorated. there probably wont be any skinny jeans and things such as coats and jackets will be cropped fashionably, but its really the accessories that give it that hipster flair. if i remember correctly im pretty sure ive already seen people dress in a way that takes elements from hipster on tiktok.
or maybe living with a boho chic mom has made me think that other people find hipster to look good.
#hipster#hipster fashion#fashion prediction#prediction#toaster-hair#ive also seen this person from my school (i actually used to have a class with them) that dressed kinda hipstery. they usually wore a wide#brimmed black hat with all sorts on dangly bits. they also wore beanies and other clothes that remind me of hipster

I haven’t thought about winx since like 2002, but the netflix adaption pissed me off enough to do my own redesigns out of pure spite.
Short story is that I looked through the wiki galleries, picked out my favorite outfits, and threw them in a blender. Long story under the cut bc I am unable to not write a paragraph of explanations I guess.
So disclaimer, back in the elementary schoolyard arguments of w.i.t.c.h vs winx my bff was firmly team w.i.t.c.h., so i pretended not to like winx and also don’t remember much about it, so i did a real quick scan on the fan wiki to remember things. Soooo some things are probably off the mark? idk. Daphne not included bc didn’t she die? I think she did? Like in a meaningful/sacrificial way to save Bloom? Felt like her being alive again makes the whole thing less dramatic. Maybe I’ll do her in the future? Trix first tho.
Flora: Nature to Plant Life, bc “nature” is kinda broad. Her fairy form is mostly her initial winx with some enchantrix elements. Her wings are a basic butterfly shape. Also I’m taking plus-size Flora from netflix’s incapable hands. I wanted her wardrobe to be simple, girly, and boho.
Miele: Don’t think she has an official “Fairy of” title, and wanted it to relate to plants but not be about plants. Kept the six round wings from one of her designs, idk which, but i think it’s her first? Also included her bc she was important to Flora’s growth, and it’s nice to see siblings in media I think. Changed her hair and skin color to look more like she is related to Flora. Kinda like the idea of her being a hot-head. Her wardrobe is mostly Flora’s hand-me-downs.
Bloom: Fairy form is her initial winx with elements from the bloomix form, which I think is one of the only forms to feel even a little bit draconic. I did want to lean into the fairy element more than the dragon element, but still. Her wing shape is basically the same as her first ones, just more of it. Also I put little embers in them. Kept those iconic pants. Overall, she has a sporty wardrobe, the outlier being her princess dress, which is basically a recolored version of her royal mom’s dress. I feel like she plays soccer or something. Also, I think it’d be fun for her to be super stoked about finding out about secret magic powers instead of her being really timid about it at first.
Roxy: Animals to Beasts, bc that sounds cooler. Cut her hair bc more short hair plz. Also as a kid, I didn’t see Roxy in any episodes, so when I first saw pics of her I thought that she was Bloom. Does she only have the one fairy form? Seems like a waste to do that. Anyway, I swapped out the pink for yellow and purple and extended the lower garment. Let these girls have varied hemlines, I’m begging you. I liked her asymmetrical motif, but not the look really, so I tried to keep that with the skirt placement and strap colors. Her stripes are shaped like claw marks, you know, for the beasts. Her wings are meant to look more angelic/birdlike. I made her a little more casual punk in her wardrobe bc the chain on her pants demanded it. Also, she has a t-shirt from her dad’s juice bar, bc she works there.
Tecna: Technology to Data bc I think it sounds better. Caveman tools are technology, Tecna. Are you the Fairy of the First Wheel?? Her fairy form is basically a detailed version of her first form and pilot episode form. I used the shape of her enchantrix wings, to keep a more classic fairy look. The gem on her suit and her heels are made from nondescript ~glowing science magic~ that is normally cyan in movies. Her wardrobe is e-girl, and bc she doesn’t have a lot of hair to play with I made her an earring and colorful lipstick girl.
Stella: Shining Sun to Celestial Light, bc her dad is king sun and mom is queen moon, and also isn’t her parent’s marriage like a super important thing for her? So she kinda got both. I played with the idea of a Shining Sun and Mystic Moon form, but that was too much work, so I opted for the two eye colors instead. Also the Ring/Staff of Solaria should have stayed in the series longer. Her fairy outfit is basically the same, but her hair accessories are gold/silver and bejeweled. Made no sense to me that not all of the canonical princesses got crowns. Just Bloom, the secret princess. She gets some streaks of dawn colors on her orange, and her boots/gauntlets are more ribbon-like and lighter in color. Her wings are the most complex shape. Her wardrobe is basically the same as in the show, I think, especially the warmer look. Her princess look is inspired by the hairstyle that Stella wore in the infamous beauty contest episode. Also she has three crowns. Queen.
Aisha: Her outfit is basically the same as her canonical first outfit, but I gave her Musa’s see-through midriff. The wrap-around ribbon never made sense to me, so that had to go. I wanted to show off her stomach, bc I gave her some abs, but the outfit looked wrong without something there, so thanks Musa. Aisha also gets a crown that is shaped like waves. Her wings are similar to Bloom’s: kind of the same just more of them. In fairy and princess form, Aisha’s hair is mostly natural, with some twists. In casual attire, her hair is all twists. I wanted her to be a runner/swimmer, so her warmer outfit is gym clothes, but I gave her a softer/more feminine look for the colder weather.
Musa: Music to Acoustics bc it sounds cooler I guess. I took the headphones of the first look off bc they looked more like earmuffs to me. I kept the red pallet of the first form bc there need to be more red magical girls, but I still used purple elements from her later designs. Mostly bc I like red and purple. I kept the see-through elements of her first form, but bc I changed the silhouette so much it ended up as more than just the midriff. Her wings are very simple, like in her first form, but they’re not as skinny. How she flew with those tiny wings, I’ll never know. Musa read as the team’s tomboy to me, so I tried keeping a more loose and simple shape in all of her clothes. Her formal dress has a Monet print, bc I felt that it was feminine, but not overly girly

This is something no one asked for but here I am doing this. Cause I'm hella bored.
Here are the rooms Dr Sora would give to the people the:
Dr Tjme
Yes! Tjme needs to relax and get some sleep. While it's great they're hard working, they can be very prone to be having burnout and this worries them a lot! So,then yes relax and get some sleep Mom Tjme!,you deserve it!
Nurse Grace:
Same thing as Dr Tjme very prone to getting burn out in their eyes and it worries them. They could bring Sally over too! They both need relax maybe they could even catchup on a few things.
Agent Icarus:
They have seen how working as an MTF for the Foundation be very taxing on mental, emotional, physical and spiritual levels. They're all tierd people who all collectively need to relax, probably get a drink and sleep. Like.....a lot. So, the open door star gazing aesthetic I think would do good for them.
Dr Quill:
^See Agent Icarus ^ they also look like they they need to escape from some people's expectations for a while. Get some sleep, make sure to eat and hydrate yourself! Yes this is a threat 🔫😄
[Bonus]
Dr Kondraki:
Stressed DILF TM in need of rest and relaxation away from society and people.
That's it bro.
I was indecisive with this one
Dr Bright:
No, I will not elaborate on this.
Dr Clef:
Pegs me as the type to be into stuff like this. Nice.
Sora's Dad:
🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕
Sora's Mom:
Just be grateful that you at least have a mattress base to sleep on.
I’m glad me being on the floor most of the time alongside attic dweller energy translates here too and is slightly boho without the White spirituality aspect. 15/10. Tjme would be so pleased, she’s very happy.
Everyone else’s looks so good!! Grace’s feels very on par, especially the cat. Good addition. I’m sure her and Sal would absolutely love to snuggle up there. Icarus is very very spot on! The aesthetic boards she sends me every now and then look like that! Quill is also quite good. I’m not entirely sure what kind of aesthetic to go for Quill but I feel something in that ballpark would work perfectly. She tends to give me just barely rustic with lots of kawaii cyber goth elements.
Konny looks pretty good, Bright is like a barely green up teen but I love it, and Clef gives me huge “aha this is my man cave-a dad cave, if you will.”
Sora’s parents 💀😭

This blue-themed apt. in France, is supposed to be “Fresh BoHo Chic” style, but it only adds to my confusion. The living room does have some BoHo elements in the fabrics on the couches.
In the kitchen, there’s a BoHo throw rug, some wicker, and maybe, loosely, the wallpaper print. The rest of the room looks simply modern.
Maybe the rug and the wallpaper in this room.
And, the only thing I see here is possibly the dream catcher, otherwise it looks modern farmhouse to me. Well, I do like the blue, though.

Rose’s Girl
Requested by @kileyrose-2003: I was wondering if you'd be willing to write a Rose the Hat imagine where the reader goes in a relationship back and forth between members of True Knot, mainly Crow Daddy, and Rose finally gets jealous enough she does the whole "You're mine, Y/n."
Pairing: Rose the Hat x fem!reader, lots of Crow Daddy x fem!reader
Words: 4.3+
A/N - This may not be exactly what you wanted sorry. I hope you enjoy it either way. I didn’t mean to end it with sex
Warnings - Swearing, kidnapping, sexual references and elements of smut towards the end (nothin too explicit)
With a tattered copy of The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan discards by your side, you sit snuggled between the open legs of Crow Daddy who was on a lawn chair just behind you; enjoying the heat radiating from the campfire. You bought the book on the long drive up to the current campsite the True Knot was occupying. You and Andi took a detour into a small bookshop where the owner, who wore the cutest kitten jumper and had to have been in her sixties, recommended it when you asked for something a little different. After a few chapters, you weren't quite sure what to make of it but you were determined to finish it. Right now, however, all attention was on the marshmallows at the end of the stick in your hand hovering over an open flame. Twisting it slowly to ensure a completely golden brown coverage. Believing them to be just right, you pull back and pluck one of the white treats off the end. Sticky white marshmallow goo covering the pads of your fingers as you pop it into your mouth. The next one you offer to the man behind you. Holding the stick up for him but he just shakes his head. Signaling to Andi who was sat a few people away from you on the other side of the fire, she tosses you an unopened bag of graham crackers. Combining the crackers and a marshmallow with the milk chocolate bar you had stashed away for later, you create a reasonably sized S'more. Looking up at Crow again, you offer him the improved snack but not without taking a bite first. He accepts it this time, probably out of courtesy more than anything else. You appreciate it either way. You make another one for yourself, finishing it off in two bites before letting your head fall to rest against Crow's clothed thigh. You liked nights like this, where everything was simply at peace. It could be described as the calm before the storm. The time before everything had to be packed up so you could move on to a new location. Everyone was doing their own thing. Andi and Apron Annie we're chatting as Annie roasted marshmallows. Barry was throwing things into the fire rather recklessly. Silent Sarey walks into the light of the fire, sitting down next to Andi. Grandpa Flick was around somewhere too; you could hear the music coming from his radio.
"Do you wanna come with me tomorrow?" You look up, waiting for him to continue.
"Where?" You eventually ask although the answer was going to be yes. You liked doing things alongside Crow when they weren't strictly business-related.
"Find the kid." He replies casually. "Last check. Make sure we've got the right one?"
Watching the flames of orange and red dance, you nod a little. "Yeah," Both palms against his thighs, you push yourself up and onto your feet. Brushing off the crumbs from your s'more, you collect your book. "You coming to bed?"
Wishing the others goodnight, you come to a halt when you spy Rose the Hat in the dim light of the candles around her. She sat alone on a cushioned bench right beside her Earthcruiser. You wonder why she didn't come over but maybe she just wanted to be alone. Offering her a smile, you're not even sure she can see before pushing her to the back of your mind. Recently you had been spending most nights with Crow and tonight would be no different.
Early morning darkness peeked through the gap in the curtains and you wake from your slumber. Crow snoring softly beside you, he's turned away with a blanket covering most of his body and one arm resting over your back. You close your eyes in an attempt to go back to sleep but after a while, you decide to get up. Slipping carefully out from under him, Crow groans a little and you freeze. With the coast clear, you creep towards the door and exit the camper in search of a change of clothes. The sun was beginning to rise casting a dull glow over the campsite. You imagine everyone else is still sleeping as you stroll over the grass. It was so... quiet. After you had changed, you decide to head back to check on Crow Daddy. Surely he's awake by now.
"You're up early." Twisting on your heel, you see Rose; reaching up and stretching out her arms. Your tired eyes drift over her taking in everything from her long boho skirt adorned with a flower pattern, to the snug t-shirt that said 'Weekend Wine Club. New members welcome' in large black letters. You could tell she wasn't wearing a bra. Her trusty hat sat upon her messy sleep-disturbed hair. "We never normally see you before noon."
"Got a job to do today," An amused smile settles on your lips as you meet her silver eyes. You did like to sleep in but where was the harm in that? Early birds catch the worm but you much prefer when someone else does the work for you.
"Oh," The word seemed more sarcastic than surprised. "And what would that be?"
Before you could respond, two arms wrap around you and pull you closer. "Mornin' ladies," You recognise the voice as Crow. "You ready to go?"
"Morning," you peck his cheek. "Yeah. I was just coming to get you actually. Some of us have been up for hours." You tease, turning back to the other woman as you push out of his grip. "Bye Rose."
Rose offers up a tight-lipped smile but you think nothing of it, waving dismissively and head for the Jeep. Pulling on the handle before waiting patiently as the two of them converse in a hushed tone. They often did this but Crow was basically second in command so you sort of just accept it for what it is. He finally unlocks the car as he heads towards you, the feeling of being watched radiating from the woman left behind. You keep your eyes on her as you pull away and she does the same.
"How far away is the kid?" You mumble - half grumble - leaning down against your hand. The sun had come up now, gracing the land with its early morning light. There were few clouds in the sky and even fewer cars on the road. The radio plays a tune you couldn't place no matter how hard you tried. It was a strange mix of country and rock. Time merging with the endless stream of trees that seemed to surround you. You were getting bored, trees could only hold your attention so long; the river you zoomed past was pretty though. You really should have brought your book, maybe that would have helped kill some time.
"Not far. Can't you tell?" You shake your head a little. Glancing to him and then back at the endless forest.
"Never been good at the whole GPS in my head thing." You explain with a little shrug. It wasn't entirely a lie but it was more like you never actually tried. It was a skill you didn't think you had. Before joining the True Knot, you hardly used your abilities at all. Cheating on exams mainly. You also enjoyed spying on people's thoughts when the boredom got too much. You had heard some pretty sick things over the years but it was mostly just mindless drivel. "Never needed it."
"Not everyone can do it but it's pretty basic." He states matter-of-factly. You'd laugh if you didn't think he was being condescending.
"Yeah well..." your voice drifts off since you don't really have an excuse; shrugging your shoulders. A short silence comes between the two of you filled by the lyrics of the song that was now more rock.
"We're about an hour away. If we find the kid, we should be able to pack up and be gone by tomorrow night."
"Good," you declare with a heavy sigh, spying something which you think is a fox darting among the brambles. "I'm starving."
"It's been a couple months since we had steam. You shouldn't be that desperate,"
"That last kid wasn't all that steamy," you fire back, thinking about the night in question. It had been three months, maybe four if your memory can be trusted and sure you've gone longer without it but you shouldn't have to. You didn't want to. "And Rose is so strict with the canisters."
"She knows what she's doing," He explains. If there was one thing Crow was good at, it was making excuses for Rose. You were pretty sure Rose could do just about anything and he'd find a way to justify it. Not inherently a bad thing, they had a good relationship. It was just a little annoying sometimes.
"Are we running low?" The car screeches to a halt at a small clearing in the woods. Tall trees tower over you in a way that makes you feel suffocated. You spot a few log cabins in the distance as well as group of rubes gathered around a wooden picnic table. It seems your question would go unanswered so you move on to a more obvious one. "This is the place?"
"You can't tell?" You roll your eyes, getting fed up of him not answering your questions.
"Which one is it?" You look to him, his eyes hidden behind dark sunglasses.
"Figure it out."
You stare at him like he's just said the most ridiculous thing you've heard in a long time. Was he not listening to you earlier? "You know I can't."
"Try." You turn back to the camp; wondering what kind of place it was? It seemed like a camp for kids which was cute. How long had it been here? Probably a while. Did many rubes come to visit? How many were here right now? You didn't fancy knowing the answer to that one. "Just close your eyes and focus."
Air pulled sharply into your lungs, your eyes snap closed in order to humor the man. The trouble with your abilities is that they didn't come with an instruction manual. Everything was a matter of winging it so right now, you had no idea where to start. You didn't know what you were looking for or how it was supposed to feel. And so it only takes a minute or two for you to give up. "I can't do this."
"Yes you can, Y/N." He replies firmly, "just relax."
There's a part of you that wants to be honest and actually learn but there's an even bigger part that just wants this to be over. You try to figure it out through Crow, surely he already knows but you're not getting anything from him. Knowing him, he's probably blocking you out. You take another deep breath but this time you actually focus on locating the rube in question. There should only be three people in the immediate area with enough power to satisfy and two of them were sat in this car. You just had to single out the other one. The music dies down around you and a hand gently rests on your thigh, squeezing softly. An image - a feeling - pops into your mind, brief but long enough for you to get a clear picture. "Do you know who it is?"
"Yes,"
"Is it the small blonde with pigtails?" You wonder, slowly opening your eyes again. You don't expect to be right. "Ca- Casey, no Cassie... maybe?"
He nods but in a way that tells you he's not really listening anymore.
"For real?" Your surprise is evident in your voice. It had been much easier than you thought.
"Yes. We give off a kind of signal to each, maybe it's a survival thing I don't know, but we're drawn to each other like metal to a magnet."
"I'm certainly drawn to you," you hum, lips curling up into a smirk. Crow clearly wasn't in the mood for messing around right now.
"They're going on a hike tomorrow. We can grab her then."
Your little adventure came to a quick close and you returned to home base more than happy with yourself. "I wanna tell Rose," There's a hint of excitement in your voice that you fail to hide as you practically leap out the Jeep. You were hoping for praise even if Crow did help out a little bit. Walking through the middle of the camp, you ask around before heading to her door. Knocking twice before barging in. You don't know what you were expecting to see but she was just sat on her bed. Her legs crossed, with what you think is a cup of tea in her hands.
"Did you find her?" Were the first words out of her mouth. She didn't even look up at you.
"Yeah," you reply happily, shutting the door behind you and waking further inside. "Crow helped me with my tracking so I'm basically a pro now."
"You've been spending an awful lot of time with Crow lately." Her eyes flicker to yours as she lifts the cup to her lips. "What happened to the others?"
Your brow furrows. Others could mean literally anyone so you stay quiet.
"What about Snakebite Andi? Weren't you cozying up to her not long ago? And even Silent Sarey at one point?"
"Does it matter?" You inquire. It was none of her business but you're curious as to why she feels entitled to bring it up. "Crow and I are just having some fun. He's.... cool-"
"And a real good fuck." She interrupts loudly. Heat pools in your cheeks but she's not wrong. "Tea? I just brew a fresh pot."
"Uh..." You shake your head. "No thanks."
"There's no need to be shy, Y/N. I've been there and so have you... more than once apparently and also with half this campsite."
A humorless huff of a laugh falls past your lips. The thing about living for a long time was that monogamy could become kind of tedious. Hundreds of years with the same person may seem romantic in theory but in practice, it would become less so. There was love, sure but there was less pressure when it came to sex. You personally found yourself in a situation were you just drifted in and out of a casual relationship with other members of the tribe. The funny thing was that it actually started with Rose; back when she turned you, she became your everything. Things between the two of you actually lasted a while but one day she just... changed. "What's your point?"
"I just don't want you causing problems." Her eyes narrow in and you shift your weight uncomfortably. She was being weird. Why did she care who you slept with? Was fucking Crow an issue because they were close?
"Is that the only reason?" You wonder, letting your playful side take centre stage in case this backfired. "Or are you just jealous that I'm not kissing your ass anymore."
Her hands tensed around the mug. "Watch your mouth."
"Or what?" You challenge, offering her a smirk. "You'll spank me?"
She laughed, more like a giggle than an outright laugh but it was nice. For a moment you thought she was actually mad. "Don't tempt me," She took a slow sip of her tea before placing it down. "Bet you'd like being bent over my knee."
"If I remember correctly," you pause, pretending to think about it. "you're the one who said I was too needy and pushed me away in the first place."
"That didn't mean go fuck everyone else," she snapped before regaining her composure. You had been messing around before but there was no doubt now. You didn't know if it was of you or Crow but Rose was definitely jealous.
"Fuck you, Rose." You hold up a middle finger as you exit her RV. That wasn't how you expected that conversation to go at all. She's allowed to fuck anyone she wants but when you do it, it's suddenly an issue? You half expected her to come running after you, not in a cute romantic comedy way but more in a threatening 'don't speak to me like that' kinda way.
"What happened?" Crow asks as you march past him.
"Go ask her."
As the sun begins to set, you're sat in Crow's lap. After a mug of hot chocolate, you had calmed down significantly and let the argument slip from your mind. You lick your finger, flipping to the next page in your stupid werewolf book. Crow's arms were wrapped around you, keeping you in place as he chats with Grandpa Flick. You don't really notice her at first but she was kind of hard to ignore.
"Come to chat with the commoners, oh so powerful leader?" Sliding your fingers between the pages of your book to ensure you don't lose your spot, you close over it over in order to give the woman your full attention. "Don't you have a dark corner to brood in."
"Ha ha." She utters sarcastically. "I came to talk to Crow. Maybe you should run along so the grown-ups can talk, yeah?"
"What's up?" Crow squeezes you gently, his head resting on your shoulder.
"I was serious." Rose growls, giving you a look. You glance between the both of them, slipping down off his lap. Still had to respect Rose to some degree. You watch them from afar for a moment wondering what they were talking about. Was it about the kid? About you? Or about something else entirely? You'd never know.
Everything was packed up pretty quickly and you were speeding down the back roads by lunch. Tossing Cheetos into your mouth from the passenger seat of Rose's camper; watching the world go by as you lead the charge. She had insisted you ride with her and you really hadn't the energy to argue. For most of the ride you had kept to yourself, finishing the last few chapters of your book but when that had come to its thrilling conclusion you started playing with the mic. You were trying to tell Andi, who was riding with Sarey, all about the events of The Last Werewolf but Rose kept going on and on about how she may need it for something important. She ended up using it to formulate a plan with Crow. And so you were left listening to the generic pop song that had started on the radio and wondering why you hadn't ridden with Crow instead. You liked Rose but she was quiet today and the tension between you was icy. It hadn't taken long to secure dinner, you didn't even have to leave the Earthcruiser. In an abandoned lot far enough away from the summer camp to not be suspicious, you feed for the first time in what felt like forever or more accurately a few months. You were given shovel duty alongside Annie but you don't mind. Once you were done, you just got back in the RVs and moved on. Heading to the next location miles away from the last. The tribe taking a break at a rest stop to refuel. The place was practically a ghost town. There wasn't much around so you expect that to be why. Perusing the stock of the gas station, the man behind the counter's stare follows you around the store. He obviously didn't trust you and in some ways he was right not to but you'd never steal anything from here so you were pretty offended by the notion. The selection of candy and treats were too great that you just couldn't decided. Eventually you opt for a bag of gummy bears which just so happen to be Vegetarian. Not that it made a difference to you. You also grab some grapes that you found in the fridge, they were purple and came in a little sealed plastic tub. Returning to the RV, the other woman had been waiting. She smiles warmly as you step in and you smile right back. A long discussion follows on why you consume so much rube shit when you don't need to. It was a matter of indulging yourself more so than anything else. You could eat whatever you wanted and not have to worry about the consequences which is like every rube's dream.
The thing with having just taken steam is that it not only made you look young, it made you feel it too so you were sat with energy to burn. There was a certain element to it that made you very... frisky too which was never a bad thing. So, when you finally stopped for the night, it was kind of expected that you'd end up naked in her bed. Crow probably figured that too when you explain how you'd be ditching him for Rose although they weren't the words you used at the time. Your breathing was raged and you were covered in a thin layer of sweat but this was the best you'd felt in ages. Almost in tears over how good it felt. Dark, silver eyes met yours from between your legs. Peppering wet kisses in a winding trail as she crawled painstakingly slowly up your body "You're mine, Y/N." She whispers softly in your ear, lighting a fire inside you. This side of Rose was one you hadn't experienced in a long time and you were loving every second of it. Every touch like a spark of electricity. She knew what you liked and it showed. "Only mine." The nibbling on your ear drifted to your neck. Taking her time before moving to a new spot. She was obviously marking you but didn't care to stop her especially when it felt so good. The others could probably hear the two of you anyway; you weren't exactly trying to stay quiet. You probably couldn't even if you tried. Her teeth pierce the skin, the pain sharp and you immediately push her away.
"You're being too rough,"
"You like it rough," She wasn't wrong. Reaching up, you hold her face in your hands admiring her before connecting in a slow and gentle embrace; tasting yourself.
"Crow's always so gentle with me." You whisper against her lips. Wanting, so desperately, to get a rise out of her. Fuelling her jealous side. She pushed you firmly against the mattress, stranding your hips.
"Is that right?" She questions, holding you in place for a few seconds. Her fingertips dancing gently over your chest. You didn't dare move and she knew as much. "Is he better than me?"
"Verdicts still out," you reply, shrugging your shoulders just a little. "I think you're gonna have to prove yourself."
"You're playing with fire, little one." There was a smirk on her lips as she ghosted your lips. "Best be careful you don't get burned."
You never liked that phrase. Her smile faded into the night, meeting your eyes. Her body was considerably less tense. "Did I hurt you?"
"You're good, maybe just don't bite so hard."
"That I can do." Slithering back down your body, she pauses around halfway. Kissing the spot just below your belly button before looking up at you. You let out a groan of impatience that utterly amused the leader of the true knot.
"Tell me, Y/N." She started, using her forefinger to draw invisible shapes over your stomach. "Who do you belong to?"
You knew the answer she wanted. You also knew the correct answer. And then there was the one that would piss her off. "Not you,"
Rose sighed softly. "You best change that answer if you ever want this to happen again."
"Plenty of other options." You muse, smiling up at her. Rose watches for a moment and then with a firm nod, she starts to climb off you.
"If that's the case then," You grab her wrist before she can leave. Looking at her with sad eyes and a little pout.
"No- wait." You want to pull her back into bed. "I'm sorry but you can't just leave me like this."
"Oh, sweetie." She pats you softly on the cheek. "I think you'll find I can. Maybe think before you speak next time."
"Rose," You whine, squirming underneath her. "Please, baby. I want you."
"I almost forgot how much I like making you squirm." Rose chuckles playfully. "Do you ever beg for Crow?"
You shake your head. They were two very different people when it came to sex but both good. "He can probably hear you begging me to fuck you." She told you quietly. "All needy and wet for me."
You close your thighs, rubbing them together in an attempt for any kind of friction. Rose gently taps you on the nose, a stark contrast to how rough she was being earlier. "Stop that right now."
You do as you're told and she gets back between your thighs. Cries of pure pleasure ring out from your throat. You forgot how good she truly was but then again, maybe that was the steam talking. It always felt fantastic after steam. Either way, you didn't want it to end anytime soon and knowing Rose, it probably wouldn't.
Tired and a little sore, you wake up enveloped in Rose's arms. Running a hand clumsily over your face, you toss over and nuzzling against her chest. She felt warm and safe and you wanted nothing more than to drown in it. Rose squeezes you gently, a lazy kiss placed against your temple. “My good girl.” If you could live in this moment, you would. Your breathing evens out and you begin to drift back to sleep Maybe it wasn't so bad being Rose's girl... at least for now.

hey girll! I just wanted some advice if that’s alright❤️ so I’m 5’4 and have a fairly big chest and big hips lol and I really love that laid back boho 70 style but I feel like it doesn’t look good on me at all! Do you have any tips? :)
Ofc, it’s alright!
I get what you’re saying because the crux of bohemian style is very much the loose, relaxed silhouette but I don’t think boho should be defined purely by those elements. If you’ve got wider hips then please embraced it (you’re blessed and I’m jealous because I’ve got no hips lmao) and wear curve-hugging flares and pair them with a looser peasant top or a white shirt - maybe unbutton the first two buttons and half tug it in. Also please consider bias-cut maxi skirts! They’re so flattering on your body type and it’s such a versatile piece - you can wear it with a relaxed white/cream blouse or you can wear it with a halter top and it would still give your outfit a bohemian edge. These type of off the shoulder dresses will look amazing on you as well - it will actually play up your chest and your hips but without looking too tight!
I don’t actually think the whole shapeless, free-flowing dressing style that is glorified as a part of the hippie movement is flattering on most body shapes. If you look at a lot of the pics from the 70s, women still made it a point to belt a lot of the maxi dresses or wore shorter dresses (if they were shapeless) with boots or heels to keep it somewhat uniformed.

hi! i’m having a huge sort out in my bedroom because i want to get some more things to decorate it with. i really love the boho look but my wallpaper is bright pink and purple with some gold and red, the rest of the walls are cream and the boho styles have seen tend to have light colored walls. do you have any ideas on what accessories i can use to make it look boho without clashing colours? i really love plants too but i’m worried the green will be too much color. thank you!
First things first, if you don’t like the pink and purple wallpaper, you can cover it pretty easily. There are a lot of options for peel-and-stick wallpaper (basically like a big sticker where you peel off the back and stick it o your wall) that can totally change the look of your room. If you go in that direction of a neutral wallpaper, then I would look for nature-inspired accessories you can put in your room (wicker side table, wicker basket, wooden ladder, wooden mirror, faux-fur rugs or throws, clay pots, a wooden bench, macrame, rope). This kind of thing:
Items you might look for would be:
Even if you kept the wallpaper, I think the above items could work fine because they’re mostly neutral. Look for items in white and grey as opposed to brown wood or wicker. If you’re worried about green plants clashing, you might want to go for pampas grass (the feathery stuff in the vases in the sixth photo from the top). You can get fake pampas grass in white, so it gives an element of nature while still fitting the color scheme.
If you do want to keep the pink and purple wallpaper and lean into it, it’s a little harder to make recommendations because the wallpaper could have a lot of different vibes, but maybe you could go in a more traveler/boho direction? I’m thinking like this:
If you like that look, I would focus on bright rugs and tapestries, accessories with a lot of texture (velvet, silk, satin), flowing curtains, brightly colored plants, lots of pillows and throw blankets, and hanging lights.

13 Fun Summer Rehearsal Dinner Ideas
Your rehearsal dinner will set the tone for your wedding weekend, and choosing an unexpected activity, location, or menu is a sure way to get your guests into the celebratory spirit! For most people, summer is about getting outdoors, being active, and hanging out with friends. So, we think it’s only fitting your summer rehearsal dinner have one, if not all, of those elements! There are countless ways to get your wedding weekend started, but here are 13 of our all-time favorite summer rehearsal dinner ideas that would be perfect for any style, any budget, and any size crowd!
OUTDOOR BARBEQUE
Is there a more classic combination than summer and barbeque? We don’t think so! That’s why an outdoor barbeque continues to be a favorite summer rehearsal dinner idea for low-key couples, families on a budget, or anyone who simply loves to eat BBQ. Set up some picnic tables in your backyard or in a park, add pretty centerpieces, simple place settings, and some lighting if it will be a nighttime dinner — think cafe lights strung through the trees or candles on every table. You can either cater food from your favorite BBQ joint or have someone work the grill. Add some lawn games or other activities to give your guests a reason to get up and mingle, and you’re all set for a night of classic summer fun!
TACOS & TEQUILA
Maybe it’s our Texas roots showing — or maybe it’s just that everyone loves tacos — but if there is something that screams summer more than an outdoor barbeque, it’s a fiesta with tacos and tequila! It’s one of the simplest yet most delicious meals with hundreds of different variations that can satisfy even the pickiest eaters. For a rehearsal dinner with more than 15-20 people, hiring a food truck is the way to go. It gives people options without putting the burden of cooking for a large group on anyone in the group. If you’re expecting a smaller crowd, though, we love the idea of a make-your-own taco buffet with all the fixing, chips, salsa, and queso. Rent a margarita machine for the night, and you’ve got yourself a fiesta!
ICE CREAM SOCIAL
An ice cream social has to be the sweetest (pun intended!) summer rehearsal dinner idea we’ve heard! Not only will it help guests beat the heat, but it’s a totally unexpected treat that everyone will love. Grab a few pints of your favorite flavors, make your own ice cream at home, or hire an ice cream truck for the night! Then create a build-your-own bar with candy, sprinkles, fresh fruit, chocolate sauce, caramel, and maybe some salty items for guests who love the sweet-salty combo. If you want to take it to the next level for your adult guests, set up an adult milkshake and float station where they can add their choice of liquor.
CAMP-INSPIRED PICNIC IN THE PARK
A picnic in the park is always a fun, super casual idea, but we love the idea of adding a theme to make it extra special for a rehearsal dinner. Because it is summer, you can’t go wrong with a camp theme that allows guests to feel one with nature and bring back some of those nostalgic summer camp days. Lay down blankets and pillows in the grass, set up small boho-inspired tents or umbrellas so guests can get some shade, and provide lots of cold beverages. You could even plan a few group games, like horseshoes or charades, to help guests get to know each other.
SEAFOOD BOIL ON THE BEACH
Shrimp, clams, sausage, potatoes, corn, sun, sand…yes to all of the above! If you live near a beach or are having a destination beach wedding, there’s no better way to get your guests into the spirit than with a seafood boil. Check your area for companies who provide all-inclusive services to set up, cook, and clean up to make your life easy. Or make it a multi-hour event with friends or family who know how to boil seafood and invite the rest of your guests to join when it’s time to eat. Just be sure to let them know to wear casual attire that they don’t mind getting a little messy. Check the beach rules to see if you can have a bonfire and, if you can, you should definitely end the evening with s’mores.
YACHT COCKTAIL PARTY
If you’re fortunate enough to have access to a yacht, why not make use of it for your summer rehearsal dinner? On your invitations, ask guests to dress in comfortable but nice attire and set sail a few hours before sunset. This will give you and your guests time to mingle, enjoy delicious cocktails, and watch the sunset over the water. Provide one or two signature cocktails for the evening and don’t forget a few snacks, such as meat and cheese boards, mini sliders, or shrimp cocktail.
BACKYARD GAME NIGHT
If you’re looking for a super low-key option for your summer rehearsal dinner, a game night is great but a backyard game night is even better to enjoy that summer weather! For a large group, have a few different game stations set up — board games on the patio, lawn games in the grass — and have a plan for getting guests to rotate between them. Order pizzas, set out bowls of chips, pretzels, and veggies with dip, and buy a few cases of beer and bottles of wine. Guests won’t be expecting anything fancy for an at-home game night, which means you can spend more time enjoying their company in a super low-key setting.
LATE-NIGHT DESSERT BAR
There’s no rule that dinner has to be part of a rehearsal dinner — it’s really just the traditional name we’ve given the event. So, if your guests are getting in late in the evening, plan a late-night get together with a variety of desserts instead. You could set this up at a local coffee shop or even at your home. Simply provide a variety of your favorite desserts, such as brownies, cookies, pies, or chocolates, and a few non-sweet items for guests who might not have a sweet tooth.
FONDUE PARTY
Fondue parties are fun all year round but they make for a great summer rehearsal dinner idea because they can be so informal and casual. Rather than a sit-down meal, set up one or two stations with different cheeses, bread, meat, potatoes, and veggies. Provide a couple of different wines that pair with the cheeses you select, and make sure to have plenty of extra napkins and fondue skewers on hand. If you want to add dessert, bring out the chocolate fondue later in the evening, and provide berries, marshmallows, graham crackers, and bite-size brownies for guests to dip. This would also be a great time to bring out a dessert wine or nightcap to ease your guests into the rest of their evening.
BEER TASTING
If you and your fiance are really into beer or you have lots of craft breweries nearby, a beer tasting is a great option for a summer rehearsal dinner. Most breweries can handle large groups, but make sure you call ahead to ensure space and availability for the day you choose. If a lot of your out-of-town guests have never tried your local craft beer or are new to beer drinking, this would also be a great time to book a brewery tour for the entire group to learn the ins and outs of the process! For couples who prefer a more personal rehearsal dinner experience, have a DIY beer tasting at your home instead. Choose a variety of your favorite brews, stock up on cups, and let your guests do side-by-side tastings of all your favorites.
ROOFTOP LOUNGE PARTY
Downtown dwellers might not have yards or parks that can accommodate a rehearsal dinner group, but they do have what most suburban areas don’t: a rooftop. If you can’t take your guests out to a green space, take them up to look out over the city with a chic rooftop lounge party. Set up cocktail tables they can stand around and lounge areas where they can sit, and keep the space open so they feel free to move around and mingle. Create the mood with background music to drown out the city noise and provide the same signature cocktails and finger foods you would at a traditional cocktail party. Because rooftops evoke a swankier vibe, make sure to tell your guests to dress for the occasion and opt for elevated (but simple) details, such as well-designed floral centerpieces, gold or rose gold utensils, nice plates, and real wine glasses rather than plastic or paper.
OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT
A rehearsal dinner should speak to your personalities just as much — if not even more — than your actual wedding. So, for the movie buffs and cinephiles, we can’t think of anything better than a movie night under the stars! If you have access to an inflatable screen, that’s amazing. If not, simply hang a sheet between trees or on a free-standing frame or project the movie on a solid-color, unobstructed area of your house. Set up lawn chairs, bean bags, pillows, and blankets in the yard for guests to lounge on. And no movie watching party is complete without the classic foods: popcorn, candy, sodas, pickles, nachos, and pretzels. You could even take it up a notch with a top-your-own popcorn bar with various toppings, such as flavored salts, flavored olive oil, seasonings, or even candies for those sweet-n-salty fans.
AL FRESCO BREAKFAST FOR DINNER
Last, but certainly not least, is the trusty breakfast for dinner option! For summer, you should definitely consider making it an al fresco affair. We love the idea of creating a classic, elegant dinner party setup with tea lights, floral centerpieces, nice place settings, and pretty linens to set the mood, but then serving classic breakfast favorites to keep the overall vibe casual and fun. For food, think family-style dining with egg casseroles, stacks of mini pancakes, plates of bacon, and a variety of pastries that can be easily passed and shared. For drinks, keep the theme going with customizable Bloody Mary’s or mimosas. End the evening with coffee and donut holes, and you’ve got yourself the perfect breakfast for dinner party!

Secret love shacks, or love flats as the case may be, notwithstanding, no affair is an island built for two – there’s always at least a third person in the mix, typically considered the betrayed. In Jamie Lloyd’s masterful revival of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal – one is tempted to call it a reinvention, so deeply and definitely urgent is his take – three of the ever-shifting betrayers and betrayees occupy the stage at all times, one or another bearing silent witness as the other two enact an affair’s all-too-familiar scenes of lies, transgressions, excitement and the love that, at least fleetingly, prompts it all.
With a starry, pitch- and picture-perfect cast imported from the smash London staging – Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Cox and Zawe Ashton – Lloyd’s staging of Pinter’s 1978 masterpiece, opening tonight at Broadway’s Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, Betrayal feels at once classic and altogether contemporary, a seamless weaving together of elements, from the fashionably spare stage and boho chic costumes to the director’s impeccably timed shuffling of characters from stage spot to stage spot, era to era, high mood to low.
Presented in reverse chronology – we meet the characters years after the end of the affair (though certainly not after its consequences) and follow them in scenes that scroll back to the first flirtation – Pinter’s play debuted five years before Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s backward musical Merrily We Roll Along, the play victorious over the structure’s challenges in ways the musical rarely accomplishes.
Lloyd’s staging, unhurried but never dawdling, glides through the emotional time tunnel as each scene, or, rather, each encounter of the characters in configurations of mostly two, occasionally three, flows with the certainty of logic. Or maybe it just seems logical in the hindsight built into the structure. Either way, each and every meeting of these characters is something of an “a-ha!” moment, leaving us convinced we’ve just been handed a crucial piece to a puzzle.
Our first meeting is with Jerry (Cox) and Emma (Ashton), whose seven-year affair (she’s married to Jerry’s longtime best friend Robert, played by Hiddleston) has been over for some years now. She’s called him, seemingly, out of the blue, and their wistful meet-up is loaded with the “You think of me sometimes?” and “I remember” aches and pains that lose none of their haunting durability for having been spoken.
Seated closely in two hard-backed chairs on the otherwise empty stage, Emma takes her time getting to the point: She wants Jerry to know that she has confessed all to Robert, just last night in fact. Hiddleston’s Robert silently watches the encounter just as we do.
The betrayed husband has known everything, through all the increasingly infrequent boozy lunches that had the husband and his seemingly clueless best man continuing a friendship now revealed in all its shabby dishonesty. The betrayer has become the betrayed, and not for the last time.
As Betrayal unfolds in reverse time to the first stolen kiss between Jerry and Emma seven years prior, we learn perhaps more than we’d care to about these attractive, bookish and stylish intellectuals (Pinter based the play on his own real-life affair). Our empathy for the cuckolded Robert diminishes when he owns up to hitting Emma “once or twice” merely because he felt like giving her a good “bashing.” The affable Jerry seems appropriately conscience-stricken, right up to the early point when we discover his backstabbing intentions. Even Emma, so smart, witty and beautiful, won’t get out of here unscathed.
Played against simple, mottled gray panels on a near-bare stage (Jon Clark’s lighting design casts doppelgänger shadows, and Soutra Gilmour did the very effective scenic and costume designs, indicating no era, certainly not the ’60s-’70s period Pinter intended), Betrayal showcases three of the best dramatic performances currently on a New York stage. In their Broadway debuts, Hiddleston (The Avengers), Cox (Daredevil) and Ashton (Velvet Buzzsaw) prove what London theatergoers have long known: Each holds the stage with a conviction that’s unbeatable. The compelling Hiddleston might get top billing, but his co-stars are no less commanding.
As the stage revolves and shuttles them to and fro, giving visual force to Pinter’s movement of these characters each through the others’ lives, Lloyd expertly focuses our attention on the performances. Aching, wistful and wounding, the director’s staging of Betrayal presents three friends and lovers trapped in an undoing of their own making, their inevitable self-destruction no less powerful for showing itself before the happier days.
