Redesign concepts of Webmaster and Feathers

After a year

WEBMASTER

My biggest problem with the Webmaster design is how cluttered it seems; there's just a lot going on here. So I tried to calm it down a bit; I took away one pair of legs to make him less cluttered but keep (more or less) original body lenght. And I know that in his episode Jun says “if something has eight legs, she doesn't like it,” refering to spiders, but I think eight limbs works too.

I also played around a bit with his colors and markings. As well as body structure and proportions, noting this dragon's show-off skill - spinning webs.

When he puffs up his “cheeks” just before he spits, you can hear a sticky, mushy sound - you know that something is going on inside. The muscles are moving and pushing something with a sticky, gluey consistency. I would like it to be somewhat repulsive.

When he spits silk in attack it does not come out as big ball of burning web. It's more like net in "V" shape, in form of many separate threads of silk shooted at the same time. Similar to actual spiders, but on the bigger scale. His webs also don't burn; I feel like it's an overkill.

I changed the arrangement of his forelegs slightly. I know it's not quite in line with the style of HTTYD (see Speed Spingers' front limbs) but in his case I think arranging his hands in a similar way to therizinosaurus gives him a more menacing look.

Deadly Spinners are dragons that give a very unpleasant first impression. They are not the most beautiful dragons around (at least not by the standard) and their behavior can be repulsive to some. The type of dragon that people are willing to pin an unfriendly, sometimes unfair patch on more easily than on other dragons - as many people do with spiders or snakes and other similiar animals.

Deadly Spinners don't live in large groups - either small groups or solo. But when they are in a group they have very close bonds and spend a lot of time socializing among themselves.

FEATHERS

She is a challenge to me, not gonna lie. She definitely is the most changed among my redesigns so far. She just seems very basic to me.

The most bothering thing to me about her are those "feathers". Because, Alex in s1ep3 calls these "feathers", as well as Olivia in s5ep2, wiki calls these "feathers-like scales", but they can move and are thick what implies they are more like Furies'/Night Light's head numbs? I absolutely can pass the crowns as feathers, but Queen's horns and holes in her meaty tail were here the last straw to not to

And yes, I made a shitty video because I'm really confused and wanted that confusion express lmao. I hope Tumblr won't take it down.

So idk, I wanted to clarify what the frick those things are and go from there. I had two main ideas - either give her actual feathers or quills similiar to those of Bewilderbeast. When drawning I wasn't sure about either idea but finally decided for the latter one. Feels more HTTYD-like I think? And very flammable feathers don't seem like the best survival choice when almost every other animal around can spit fire.

I reimagine Featherhides as way more nervous and skittish dragons. Changewings were mysterious but usually seemed calm and strategical. Featherhides' nature is more in type of "flee" than "fight" (tho they can get so smoke when needed, they are not defensless or smth). They are very easy to spook and sometimes will flee in panic from something very trival just to return seconds later when they realise there was no danger at all, or are curious of whatever scared them. They often make rapid little movements, much like birds - especially if something catches their eye and they are not sure what it is.

Featherhides also live in large flocks without a complex hierarchy. If they can - they run, if any of them can't - at least some of them also stay behind.

Once Feathers bonds with Alex she would be very protective of her little human.

When Featherhides mimic sounds they do not do weird things with their faces like in the show. It looks much more like like some birds do that. But that's just a sidenote.

I've been listening to Hotel California by Eagles and now I think it would be really funny if we trapped our ocs in a hotel with no real exit. They just wanna have a nice time and then realise "hey. Where'd. Where'd the doors go. Hey I can go outside but I can't leave the property. What."

(The hotel is also haunted and something may or may not eat you)

do you have any thoughts on the story of abraham and isaac? my parents talk about it and praise abraham for being willing to kill his son which..... scares me to say the least, and i'd love to hear your perspective as someone who seems more well-adjusted

Where I am now, it disgusts me more than anything. The interpretation of "I'm willing to sacrifice your life if I was told to" feels like the step before "I put you into this world and I can take you out of it." It's entitlement to a child, who is an independent individual, just because they are dependent on you for survival. I prefer the interpretation of understanding the actions you're taking and the reasons why (like how there's multiple religions that don't eat pork because it was so unsafe to eat at the time), especially if it's at someone else's expense.

Where I was in the thick of it all, it gave me morbid comfort that scares me now. I had fantasies of being a martyr for the church and the idea of being the next Isaac was just so appealing. Being a hand-selected sacrifice chosen by the Good Lord Himself? Sign me the fuck up, babey!

I think if I admitted that to my family, they'd be horrified.

It's another one of those stories or beliefs where I think the majority of christians just regurgitate what they've heard. It's a point of pride and devotion, but there's no personal reflection or cross-cultural awareness of it. Lean not unto your own understanding and whatnot. It's the potential that scares me the most, like the Quiverfull movement with the Duggars or Turpins. I'm sure there's stories now, but I can't remember them off the top of my head

ok so in the finale, he said that he wants freedom, meaning he has been restricted in some way. but as far as we’ve seen and can tell, he is basically free to do as he wishes. and of course there’s the theory with lilith being the one owning his soul, which he might have traded away to gain such insane amounts of power. but what has he ever done that didn’t seem to be in his best interest?

yea, yea, i hear you and your sassy clips of him saying he’s helping the hotel simply for boredom’s sake and that he enjoys watching people try to do something meaningful but then fail in the process but! that would imply that he’d done so before, but we have never, not once, ever heard that he even dabbled in such a thing. (and don’t you dare try to tell me that he actually cares about charlie, the man is the most manipulative, sadistic little mf i’ve ever seen, and that’s saying something because i’ve seen miraculous ladybug and hate liela rossi as much as anyone else.) the only things we know about his past is that he appeared in hell very suddenly with lots of power, he toppled countless overlords overnight, and his radio podcast killed tons of demons. nothing of this has to do with other beings in hell trying to make it better (as i highly doubt any of those overlords had good intentions since they were, well, overlords). but he doesn’t seem the type to do things meaninglessly, he always has ulterior motives.

but then if his excuses of entertainment are as flimsy as i’m making them out to be then why would he ever help charlie? well, i think that brings us back to lilith. it’s far from a rarely-noticed detail that the length of alastor and her’s disappearances were for the same amount of time and while we know that lilith spent that time in heaven (if that even is lilith, but idk enough about that theory so i’m just gonna assume that it’s her and that she’s been in heaven the whole time), we don’t have a smack-dab CLUE as to what alastor was up to during his vacay. then he just shows up out of nowhere, at the idealistic princess of hell’s doorstep of all places.

well, i’ve had a sneaking suspicion for a while that lilith’s deal (at least part of it), in exchange for his power, was to help charlie in some way. i’m thinking that’s why he seemed so torn-up about how he almost ‘died for his friends’. he doesn’t care for any of them (except maybe nifty but i think that’s just bonding over shared mania (i think rosie (and maybe zestial) is the only one he truly, honestly cares about, but i get the feeling that even that relationship is pretty business-based)).

we have no idea what lilith is like, we have absolutely zero characterization of her except for what charlie explains about her in episode 1, that she’s passionate and hardworking and stubborn and independent—qualities that charlie mostly has in abundance. so i would say that she’s cared about charlie this whole time but due to whatever is keeping her in heaven, she can’t help her, except that lilith seems a little too malevolent to care about charlie’s hotel. why would she? she fell in love with a dreamer who shared her rebellious heart and for this, she was the first human soul cast into hell. she has never had any kind of reason as to why she would ever want to go to heaven, or anyone else for that matter (as she did work to make hell into the semi-civil place it is now). and we have no idea how close she and charlie were before she left (i suspect we’ll learn more about that in season 2), so we can’t assume that she’ll just support charlie, whatever her aspirations may be. so i honestly have no idea as to why lilith would enlist alastor to help charlie, but i am fairly convinced that this is the case of what’s happened.

Overtime, it has become a realization that silliness can be a weapon.

A way to weasel out of circumstances by purposefully playing the fool.

Tapping dancing your way out of situations, by donning the hat of the mad hatter and declaring it a Birthday. Turning the tables away from the original origin of the conversation. While the soft, squishy and fragile part of yourself remains safe and sound.

Flirting, by any other name, is a means to dig into that soft hearted squishiness. Like cracking open an oysters shell, to snatch away a pearl. What better way to redirect one's aim than to improvise?

And yet, and yet, and yet.

You have found that your fancy footwork is slowly being matched in stride. The line is blurred between self-preservation and true enjoyment.

You're dancing with danger.

The hand that is splayed in front of your face, palm up. So still. With an inhuman statue-like elegance. The fingers bloomed open gently, waiting for your fingers to lace with theirs.

"We keep bumping into each other, don't we?" The voice is silken and playful.

Time felt sluggish as your mind worked feverishly to find a way out of this debacle. You take their hand gingerly by their fingertips. Weary to avoid the venus fly trap laid out before you. Once that hand closed you were going to be at their mercy. A brief idea flickered across your temple, before committing to your plan, ducking your head down and blowing a raspberry into their palm.

The magic that held you transfixed is broken. A noise, a squeak of shock has the hand retracting back.

You look up with a grin.

"A bit."

Sharp eyes. Sharper eyebrows. You watch their expression change, from shock, to annoyance, to something with a smile. A smile of something unreadable, and unknown.

"A bit." They echo your words. Walking around you slowly, and you pivot to match their stride. "You know, if I didn't know better. . . I would think you were avoiding me."

"Really?" You chirped, feigning a wide eyed curious smile. "Me? Why, I would never."

They scoff, pulling their lips back to show teeth, and what sharp teeth they have. Your eyes linger on the fangs, pearly white and polished before your eyes dart up. Studying their eyes and regaining the slipping hold of your mask.

"You are. . . really something," They mused, shaking their head.

"I hope it's something good!" You quip, grinning as you rock back and forth on your heels.

"Certainly," That wide grin is quick to reappear, but you pretend to look thoughtful and continue to rock.

"I can't seem to ever get a proper read on you. It's as enticing as it is maddening."

That bit makes you blink, eyebrows raising slightly in amusement.

"Good! That is exactly what I am hoping for," You flourish a bow, bending forward grandly.

They bite back a bark of laughter. "To entice me, or drive me mad? Because dear, truly, I am wrapped up in your mystery."

Now that little bit did take you by surprise. It was sweet, with a hint of affection that had your stomach doing loops.

"I wish. . . to be confusing!" You declare instead, looking all for the world triumphant in your task. You look at them, eyes wide and mirthful.

"You certainly are that,"

And in spite of yourself, you laugh.

I honestly kind of love how magic mirror characters went from monotone objects that tell nothing but the truth to sassy beings that tell the truth, but have fun doing it cuz they actually have a personality. The magic mirror from Snow White, while cool-looking, is all serious and boring while the one from Shrek talks like a dating show host. Queen Delightful’s mirror from The 7D is supportive and has a sassy sense of humor. She tells nothing but the truth but at the same time, she helps Queen D with her morning workout and is even capable of falling in love

I wanna see a magic mirror character that’s a mix of both the original and the new interpretations. The best way to describe the personality is that of the butlers from 90’s sitcoms like Geoffrey from Fresh Prince of Bel Aire or Niles from The Nanny. Serious, formal, takes their job seriously, but also has a sassy/sarcastic sense of humor. I wanna see the mirror absolutely roast its owner/whoever is talking to it. For example…

(Possibly evil?) Queen: Magic Mirror on the wall, is this dress not the fairest of them all?

Magic Mirror: Your dress is absolutely ravishing on you, your highness. No other dress in the land can compare with its elegance, for it is made of the finest silk
