Jackson was quiet at night. Peaceful, even. Some nights, she thought she’d get used to it, the way the stillness settled over the town like fresh snow. But other nights, it made her uneasy. A world that hand't been safe for years shouldn’t be this calm.

Still, it was easier with Joel beside her.

He slept on his side, always facing the door, always aware. Even here, with locked doors and walls stronger than most, his body never fully let go of the tension. His arm lay across his stomach, muscles loose in sleep but still there, ready. The old cotton of his shirt had stretched thin over the years, soft with wear, and she could see the slow rise and fall of his breathing.

She hesitated, watching him.

She didn’t know when it had started—the urge to say it. Maybe back on the road, when every day felt like a gamble, or maybe here, when he started softening in the ways only she got to see. Maybe it had been there all along, waiting, patient as the moon, for the edge of survival to wear off, for something gentle to take it's place.

She exhaled slowly, heart beating against her ribs like it wanted to jump right out of her chest.

Leaning in, she whispered, “I love you.”

Into the shell of his bad ear—the one that so often missed words here and there, the one that never caught anything quieter than a shout, or worse, a gunshot—soft as a secret.

He didn’t stir.

Her heart pounded anyway, some part of her half-expecting him to hear, to roll over and look at her with those dark, unreadable eyes and tell her she was being foolish. But he didn’t. His breathing stayed even, his body still.

She let out a small, nervous breath of relief, barely more than a sigh. Then, pressing her forehead against his back, she let her eyes slip shut and let sleep take her.

But now, the next night when the world was quiet again, she melted up to him once again. Her breathing was labored, hesitant, uncertain as she leaned into him, cuddling up against his back and lips curling near his ear again. Goosebumps rose over his neck at the feeling of her soft breath against him.

"I love you," she said. The words were muffled, like he was hearing them underwater, but there was no mistaking them.

Joel’s fingers twitched where they rested against the sheets. It wasn’t a dream.

The worst part was that he’d been waiting for this.

Waiting for the moment when her heart caught up to his, when she’d say the words he’d already felt pressing against the walls of his chest for weeks, maybe longer.

But now that it was here, he didn’t know what to do with them.

So he did what he always did—he stayed still.

Not because he didn’t want it. Not because it didn’t mean anything. But because it meant too much.

Because Joel Miller didn’t get to have things like this.

Not after all the years of losing, of holding onto things too tight just to have them slip through his fingers. Not after the things he’d done.

The kind of man he’d become.

It was different this time. Maybe the first few nights she’d said it for herself, testing it out, seeing how the words felt in the dark. But tonight, there was hope in the way she said it, like some part of her wanted him to hear, to wake up, to know.

He wouldn't let that side of him win—stubborn, stupid, cowardly Joel—couldn’t let her keep whispering into the dark, thinking she was the only one carrying it.

So before she could pull away, before she could tuck herself back into that silence, he rolled over, slow and gentle.

He could hear how her breathe froze, her eyes going wide as he turned to face her. He could just barely see her in the dim light, the way her lips parted, the way her fingers curled into the fabric of the sheets like she wasn’t sure if she should run or stay.

Sliding his arm around her waist, he tugged her in, letting her fit against him in a way that always felt so natural, so right between them. The moment stretched, and he could feel her heart pounding against his chest.

And then, low and rough with sleep, he murmured against her temple, “Might be hard of hearin’, darlin’, but I ain’t deaf.”

She stilled.

Then, after a long, trembling pause, she let out a tiny, wobbly laugh—disbelieving, breathless, like she was afraid to trust it. Afraid to let her guard down, to trust that he wouldn't make her feel like a fool for saying it.

Joel hated that.

He didn’t want her to doubt this. Didn’t want her to think for even a second that she’d imagined it, that it wasn't requited.

So before she could pull away, before she could talk herself out of it, Joel lifted a hand and cradled her face to bring her eyes to his, thumb sweeping gently over her cheek, brushing away a tear.

“Hey,” he murmured, tilting her face up so she’d look at him. “No, don’t do that.”

Her eyes shimmered in the low light, full of something fragile, something nervous, and his heart felt like it was constricting in his chest.

“I love you too, baby,” he said, voice warm, steady and tender. His thumb traced her cheek again, slower this time. “Have for a long time.”

Her lips parted, her breath shuddering against him, and for a second, all she did was stare, like she was trying to hold onto the moment, trying to believe it.

Joel didn’t let her second-guess it. He kissed her temple. Then the bridge of her nose. Then her cheek, slow and soft, like he had all the time in the world.

“Shoulda said it sooner,” he admitted, pressing another kiss into her hair. His grip around her tightened, drawing her fully against his chest. “Thought I was dreamin’ it all these nights.” He exhaled, warm against her skin. “And I’m sorry.”

She shifted, her lips brushing against his stubbled jaw, soft and lingering, "You bastard," he could feel her smiling against him, "you're lucky that I meant it,"

Then, when she let out another small, breathy laugh—lighter this time, softer—he finally let himself smile. Her arms snaked around his middle, holding tight, like she wanted to hang on forever, to never let him go.

He didn’t plan on letting her.

Joel’s hands splayed across her ribs, pulling her in, feeling all of her pressed against him. Warm. Safe. Real.

"Promise I'll make it up to ya, baby." he grinned sleepily as his eyes began to shut again.

And when she tilted her head, when she leaned up and kissed him—soft and sweet, giving in a way that made his chest ache—Joel finally let himself have this.

Just this moment, just this quiet night, wrapped in something so new, so foreign, something he never thought he’d get.

Something like hope.

I actually really hope this like disaster baby join the main gang.

Aside from being an absolute cutie pie i think he would make a great comrade for Anya.

Anya is surrounded by mostly well behaved kids who are very mature (well mature for 6 years olds). Anya falls behind due to a combination of factors (background, age, personality) so i think it would be nice for her to have a kid that is on her level developmentally if any of that makes sense.

A kid who's just as gross and careless as she is. The way his uniform is undone and him playing with his boogers just kinda indicates a very lackadaisical attitude. He just doesn't seem as concerned with/capable of being as prim and proper as his peers. If he was in Henderson's class he would probably be a thorn in Henderson's side.

I can't say if he is intentionally troublesome bc he does seem concerned with his reputation. I won't say he's a complete delinquent because he could be more like Anya, tries but fails.

Narrative he can bring a lot of conflict into the story.

For starters, he would be Anya's first friend that she befriend because they had something in common and not just out of convenience. Someone she can actually talk to and play with who would (hopefully) be less judgemental of her. We don't actually know his personality, just conduct, so it's a bit of a stretch, but if they do get along then it can cause problems in the story.

Naturally, Damian would be very jealous of him. But so would Becky. Becky and Anya are good friends, but they don't have a lot in common, and Anya never really made any other friends. If she were to make any friend who really got along with it, it would really challenge Becky. Of course, Anya won't really care, but I think it would be cute to see Becky get a bit jealous and worried she's losing her bestie. A good reason to explore their friendship and let them have that bonding moment of reassurance.

He would also threaten the mission. Anya's partner in crime who encourages those less than savory traits she has that Loid is desperately trying to squash. Might even reawakened or start some new ones. It would be funny for Loid to have beef with a six year old and everyone thinking it's because it's a boy (which really baffles damian) but no it's literally for the first time actually for the mission.

And of course it asks the question of what Loid values more, Anya's happiness of the stability of the mission. Obviously Anya isnt going to throw her mission to the wind and would still try to get better. She might even be a good influence on him. It would be sad if Loid not only doubts Anya's improvement and dedication but also for him to discourage her from having a friend because of something so trivial. Not to mention being so quick to look down on a kid like that and dismissing him.

Maybe this can prompt a bit of a look into Loid's childhood. What if he was also a bit of a delinquent or troublesome. They look a bit similar so maybe he would see a bit of himself in the little boy and that stirs up a few complicated emotions.

Idk i just think he can be a fun character to add.

I'm starting to imagine a Jason x Reader scenario like, Reader gets powers or some sort of magic abilities and they are like... Trying to figure out what to do.

What if it's before they knew Jason was Red Hood? And they got their powers in a freaky accident and they are like. Jason absolutely cannot know about this. Maybe because they don't want to involve him with whatever happened with them or they fear they will see them as a freak/monster or whatever. Or they don't want to accidentally hurt him. So they try to distance/run away.

Plot twist: Jason was present at the moment of the accident and/or are aware of reader's situation and they are hunting their ass down before they hurt themselves or someone with less than nice intentions get their hands on them.

Now I would say Jason's even mores stressed out than you. He hates that you didn't trust him enough to come to him for this, and he's kicking himself over not telling you he's Red Hood. You're in danger, he knows you're afraid to put other people in danger, and the only thing he can do is try to find you before anyone else

He just wasn't anticipating how good you were at staying out of his reach. But being able to avoid him means you're good at avoiding everyone else, that is until you rely on the wrong people to help you. Luckily, Red Hood has a lot of experience breaking into well-protected places. And there isn't anything that could stand in the way of him getting to you

He's going to save you (and he might leave a trail of bodies in his wake), but when he does he's definitely going to scold you for not trusting him. You're going to scold him right back, of course, for not sharing that he's Red Hood. When it's all said and done and he's gotten you home safe, whether you keep your powers or not, he never considers you a monster for a single second

To be absolutely real, even if there was no science proving it, no people testifying to how important it is, I still would 100% support trans people. One of my core beliefs is that if someone is doing something that isn’t harmful to others or themselves, there is no reason to intervene. I don’t have to understand trans people even to support them. I believe so heavily in bodily autonomy that even if someone wanted to change their gender just to fuck around, I’d still support it. You cannot be for freedom of expression or pro bodily autonomy and be transphobic. Those ideologies literally contradict the other at its core. There has never been any proof that being trans causes someone to harm themselves, in fact, there’s an abundance of truth showing that not allowing a person to transition makes a person a fuck ton more likely to harm themselves. And I’ve never seen any proof that being trans directly correlates to hurting others. You see terfs pull news stories where (mostly) trans women commit horrific crimes, but don’t seem to realize there’s no connection between the gender and the crime. Like you can be trans and commit awful crimes. The two can coexist. And cases where men dress as women to commit crimes doesn’t count because they’re no trans women. They’re predators.

If you literally took away every single piece of medical and anecdotal evidence supporting being trans as a real thing, I still would support it unconditionally because I believe freedom of expression and complete bodily autonomy is a human right. Simple as that. Person wants to be a different gender and the process doesn’t involve harm to themselves or others, I genuinely cannot understand what argument there is left.

That’s why I always found it so interesting that most, if not all, terfs are pro choice. An opinion rooted in bodily autonomy and a process that causes harm to no one.

Idk. I just always think about how the first time I even heard of a trans person, i had no issue about it because of this very reason. Even at my young age of like 11, 12 maybe, before I understood anything behind it, I thought it was okay because I believe people have the right to exist as they want. I’ll be real. I’m cis. I believe it’s impossible for me to every fully grasp what a trans person even feels. To fully understand their experience that justifies transitioning. A lot of times I see shit about gender and whatnot and it makes no fucking sense to me. But I cannot find any logical reason for me, as someone who believes so heavily in bodily autonomy and freedom of expression, to deny their right to exist. It doesn’t matter if I understand or not. Because it has nothing to do with me. A person transitioning literally has no impact on me or my well-being. And if it’s safe and a person feels better, I just don’t see why it’s so hard to understand.

Yeah, I remember that. What I mostly did back then was just to watch some DR comic dubs, memes, being happy when I spotted the Fun Gang in WiityUsername's Hot Dog French Fries Animation instead of being happy that I spotted Gaster, and many Revtrosity videos.

Right now I remember watching a video where someone made an animatic of what they imagined Lancer's mom would look like (which looked actually shockingly similar to Queen) with Sardonix from SU as the audio track, and uhhh this:

Which also reminds me, a bunch of people seemingly thought, or joked about Lancer being Sans and Papyrus combined, and Lancer being Sans's little brother instead of Papyrus? I think this was more on a meta, character writing level, as well as Kris=Frisk+Chara.

Though I think the theory that Gaster is the Knight, and Asriel being the Angel (because we thought he'll probably Show up at the end of DR since I think we all thought Chapter 1 took place on a monday) were more commonly accepted back then. I think there were also some Player = Angel theorys, but I don't think it was that well established in the fandom. Also nobody really gave a shit about Dess, some people (2LeftThumbs) thought Dess was just an Earthbound reference because it sounds similar to Ness.

My favourite theory was actually the "Susie is the hero of DR" by Austin Game Theory of all theorys (which I can't find right now, but basically the theory is that Kris has PTSD and through befriending Susie they now have a support network to help them through tough times), which kinda became the lense I read chapter 1 through before chapter 2 dropped. Through that I also really grew to really like Kris and Susie's friendship, even though we actually didn't have that much to go off from Chapter 1.

It's also funny to see how back then, everyone still drew Ralsei mostly with his hat on (and Susie with her hair covering her face), nowadays everyone mostly depicts his hatless form.

Speaking of Ralsei: I was (and still am) of the opinion that Ralsei isn't Asriel, which kinda was the main Ralsei theory for whatever reason idk if it still is since right now it feels more like the "Ralsei is evil" theory is the main one.

I really hope we get a silly Ralsei Meme for every chapter. In Chapter 1 it was mainly giving Ralsei a gun, because it "heals in Reverse"

I also miss that the phrase was "the Power of [hyperlink blocked] shines within you" which was often quoted in comment sections instead of "you're filled with the Power of [hyperlink blocked]" which it eventually was changed into, probably in order to forshadow the Determination reveal.

I actually feel like DT existing in DR (and the snowgrave Route probably) kinda made the need to connect UT and DR in theorys stronger, which I am not the biggest fan of. I feel like in Chapter one the game was very unknown territory but was still a little more accepted as it's own thing in terms of universe rules. (Exept for that one video I saw where that one guy wanted DR to end in a playthrough of Undertale). Maybe I only feel that way because we got so many new theorists since Chapter 2 dropped, and thus the people who are connecting UT to DR increased.

What was also really rare back in ye olden days were the people who actually used they/them for Kris, I'm happy that has changed. You have like one line in chapter one where Kris's pronouns are used, so a lot of people missed it.

In conclusion: I mostly spent my Chapter one days on Youtube, and there are still so many specific memories I oculd get into. Nobody really was certain if we were going to get a chapter two, so everything felt a lot quieter, and the brainrott wasn't as strong. This made me really nostalgic for those days. It's a bit sad that these fanworks from back then are so hard to find now, but I'm also excited (and scared) of how the fandom will change when the next two chapters release.

i think its the art book that mentions that s1 was aiming for a "the world stopped moving when the family broke apart" kind of idea with the lack of technology.

like, five leaves in 2002, the family breaks apart in that moment and doesn't reunite until 2019. if we were following that theme we should have seen new tech emerge as and when the hargreeves evolved as a family.

actually i'm still thinking about the moral orel finale.

he has a cross on his wall. do you know how much i think about that bc it's a lot.

a lot of stories ((auto)biographical or fictional) centering escape from abusive/fundamentalist christianity result in the lead characters leaving behind christianity entirely. and that makes complete sense! people often grow disillusioned with the associated systems and beliefs, and when it was something used to hurt them or something so inseparable from their abuse that they can't engage with it without hurting, it makes total sense that they would disengage entirely. and sometimes they just figure out that they don't really believe in god/a christian god/etc. a healthy deconstruction process can sometimes look like becoming an atheist or converting to another religion. it's all case by case. (note: i'm sure this happens with other religions as well, i'm just most familiar with christian versions of this phenomenon).

but in orel's case, his faith was one of the few things that actually brought him comfort and joy. he loved god, y'know? genuinely. and he felt loved by god and supported by him when he had no one else. and the abuses he faced were in how the people in his life twisted religion to control others, to run away from themselves, to shield them from others, etc. and often, orel's conflicts with how they acted out christianity come as a direct result of his purer understanding of god/jesus/whatever ("aren't we supposed to be like this/do that?" met with an adult's excuse for their own behavior or the fastest way they could think of to get orel to leave them alone (i.e. orel saying i thought we weren't supposed to lie? and clay saying uhhh it doesn't count if you're lying to yourself)). the little guy played catch with god instead of his dad, like.. his faith was real, and his love was real. and i think it's a good choice to have orel maintain something that was so important to him and such a grounding, comforting force in the midst of. All That Stuff Moralton Was Up To/Put Him Through. being all about jesus was not the problem, in orel's case.

and i know i'm mostly assuming that orel ended up in a healthier, less rigid version of christianity, but i feel like that's something that was hinted at a lot through the series, that that's the direction he'd go. when he meditates during the prayer bee and accepts stephanie's different way to communicate, incorporating elements of buddhism into his faith; when he has his I AM A CHURCH breakdown (removing himself from the institution and realizing he can be like,, the center of his own faith? taking a more individualistic approach? but Truly Going Through It at the same time), his acceptance (...sometimes) of those who are different from him and condemned by the adults of moralton (stephanie (lesbian icon stephanie my beloved), christina (who's like. just a slightly different form of fundie protestant from him), dr chosenberg (the jewish doctor from otherton in holy visage)). his track record on this isn't perfect, but it gets better as orel starts maturing and picking up on what an absolute shitfest moralton is. it's all ways of questioning the things he's been taught, and it makes sense that it would lead to a bigger questioning as he puts those pieces together more. anyway i think part of his growth is weeding out all the lost commandments of his upbringing and focusing on what faith means to him, and what he thinks it should mean. how he wants to see the world and how he wants to treat people and what he thinks is okay and right, and looking to religion for guidance in that, not as like. a way to justify hurting those he's afraid or resentful of, as his role models did.

he's coming to his own conclusions rather than obediently, unquestioningly taking in what others say. but he's still listening to pick out the parts that make sense to him. (edit/note: and it's his compassion and his faith that are the primary motivations for this questioning and revisal process, both of individual cases and, eventually, the final boss that is christianity.) it makes perfect sense as the conclusion to his character arc and it fits the overall approach of the show far better. it's good is what i'm saying.

and i think it's important to show that kind of ending, because that's a pretty common and equally valid result of deconstruction. and i think it cements the show's treatment of christianity as something that's often (and maybe even easily) exploited, but not something inherently bad. something that can be very positive, even. guys he even has a dog he's not afraid of loving anymore. he's not afraid of loving anyone more than jesus and i don't think it's because he loves this dog less than bartholomew (though he was probably far more desperate for healthy affection and companionship when he was younger). i think it's because he figures god would want him to love that dog. he's choosing to believe that god would want him to love and to be happy and to be kind. he's not afraid of loving in the wrong way do you know how cool that is he's taking back control he's taking back something he loves from his abusers im so normal

i was starting to make a post abt how like. qpac in the past has, when things went wrong, let himself spiral into despair but thats. not what happened. at least not recently.

when mike went missing, when the eggs went missing, fit was there to lean on. tubbo was there to lean on. he was able to process his feelings even while going through the fuckin wringer, he hasn't been as bad as he was during maybe the happy pills in a long while. yeah things got bad but he had people there for him (he had fit)

and i was like oh thats rly good! and then!! i remembered!! that his whole getting up and moving on immediately, especially for other people, has always been something he's done for Mike.

After being kidnapped, if he didn't have the space to safely be depressed he just would move on. he even did an outfit change then too. Specifically just to quickly move on so MIKE could have someone to lean on.

I don't know exactly whether thats better or worse I just think its so fucking interesting that he's actually reverted to coping mechanisms he had before fit showed up, now that he's certain he's gone. or in general; if he doesn't have someone to /feel bad with to process those feelings/
