I've now watched 3 YouTubers climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
This is a very high elevation mountain in Tanzania, Africa. It's basically for people who want the thrill seeking experience of Everest without the freezing cold and high risk of death.
Though more people die on Kilimanjaro than on Everest every year. But that is a statistical thing. 30,000 climbers and up to 10 deaths per year vs 600 climbers and 4 deaths per year.
Kilimanjaro is still a huge test of endurance and pushing yourself, but it's a lot safer and you can actually enjoy the experience rather than just be miserable the entire time. Nothing about climbing Everest is fun or enjoyable. It's literally just an exercise in saying you did it. Maybe you get to enjoy the views for a few moments here and there. But most of the time you are just trying not to die. And when you pass "rainbow valley" you are reminded of your possible death.
"Blue, Red, Orange, and Green colored jackets cover the dead bodies forever. Other than bodies, there are colorful garbage dumped, tents, cans, and oxygen tanks. From a distance, this area seems so colorful, like the rainbow; hence it is named the popular Rainbow Valley."
The thing that bothers me about these rich white folks doing this thrill seeking to the top of a mountain is that they don't do it alone. As they are fighting elevation sickness and trying to keep their lunch down, Tanzanian locals are carrying all of their shit up the mountain (while barely breaking a sweat). These porters carry 20kg/44lb packs up and down and get paid $10 per day. And, according to some redditor, tipping them $250 is "sufficient."
But these thrill seeking white people do not actually pay the porters their $10 per day salaries. That would actually be the company hired to arrange all of the trip logistics.
"Ah, so like a Tanzanian travel company books your flights and hires the porters and figures all of that out." you might be thinking.
Of course, that's not how it works.
For Smarter Every Day's trip up the mountain, he paid a company called "Killawarrior."
You pay them $7000.
They arrange everything.
And of that money, your porter gets $90.
The person making sure you get up the mountain alive and carrying all of your shit gets $90 for a 9 day trip on dangerous terrain.
And Gerry from Canada... gets a lot more.
And it's one of those things where... the inclination is to shame and boycott. "Don't go on these trips, the locals are paid nothing." But these are actually very good jobs for them. And they need this work.
It's just like the recent iPhone protest I saw. "Don't buy an iPhone. The battery is made from slave labor in the Congo." (All devices with Li-ion batteries are. And there are 2 billion more Android devices than iPhones. Would someone please start including Google in these protests?)
But if we all stopped buying stuff with batteries, the economy of Congo would collapse. As 9/10ths of their exports are minerals.
I saw a video where they followed a child around who was working on a cocoa farm. There was this 12 year old who would say he is 18, and they ask him how he felt about working on this farm. And he said, "I need this money for my family. My mother is sick and can't work, so I work."
It just seems like if we all stopped purchasing goods made from exploited labor, we'd be screwing a lot of poor and desperate folks. And if rich white folks stopped climbing mountains, those porters would have to settle for lower paying jobs.
So... what is the solution here?
It just seems like everyone is screwed no matter what.
Sorry for the cynical ending. I just got nothing positive or hopeful to say about this.

Claude Faustus modern! au headcanons
cw; prob swearing, explicit (adult ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) stuff) mentions of abuse maybe?
——————
- Claude thinks the iphone vs android argument is stupid, but he def thinks that iphone is better (pls do not argue abt this in the reblogs or whatever ple im begging you)
-Claude lives in an a duplex with noisy af and annoying neighbors. like. they blast music ONLY at night when Claude is trying to sleep and brings ppl over and bc the walls are so thin he can hear literally everything. and by everything i mean he can hear them chewing, talking on the phone, seggsy time, and DEFINITELY crying
- i feel like Claude also works at a café. Although he finds cafés particularly boring, he thinks its interesting how humans interact with each other, and why they choose to go to a coffee place rather than their own home to study, plus he likes coffee.
- UM Claude sometimes just hangs out in his house in his demon form. like huge ass fuckin spider just laying on the floor. a package delivery dude had to be bribed to not tell anyone and then shooed him away
-Sometimes Claude just walks around at a park to get a breath of fresh air. Almost immediately leaves because he heard a baby crying.
- Claude cannot tolerate crying babies, so to avoid hurting anyone or anything he literally has to evade the premises
-BACK TO THE CAFÉ! Claude likes caramel flavored coffee, if it has anything to do with caramel he will ask to have it in his coffee, he also gets black coffee on the rare occasion.
-Whenever an employee gets his order wrong he just stares like. ._. “thank you” *leaves and throws cup away”
- Claude cannot stand child abuse, like if he sees some woman beating on her child or yelling at it for seemingly no reason he is there and basically yelling at the mom being like “YOUR CHILD IS NEVER GONNA SPEAK TO YOU AGAIN AFTER IT MOVES OUT IF YOU TREAT IT LIKE THAT”
-i feel like Claude was abused at some point in his life (besides Alois) by someone he really trusted. pretend he’s not a demon for a sec n thats the reason hes so stoic and monotonous
-his halloween decorations r literally the best in the neighborhood, possibly the entire city. he goes all out and his house has no decorations at all for any other holiday
- Jehova witnesses show up sometimes doin their usual thing n Claude is just 🧍🏻♂️
-gives out candy on halloween
- has a private instagram with no followers and the only account he’s following is lifes.a.bender
-his fave song is Rabies by Young Mammals
-occasionally plays old games like twisted metal or castle minor z
-HAS watched the show ‘Lucifer’ and actually enjoyed it, thinks his red eye editing is funny LOL
-Never seen leaving or entering his house so it’s a high target for robbery, but Claude is almost always there. Again many people have walked in on a gargantuan spider just. sittin on the bed watching TV
-actually has a sense of humor
-cares about people somewhat more in the 21st century rather than the 19th, but barely
- has a pet spider named Raven the Acid Bath Princess of Darkness
this is the inside of claudes house lol
sum like that

acceptable conversation topics for men as deciphered by declan lynch
- cars (this one is his favorite because like almost all stief characters, declan actually cares about cars)
- the merits of apple vs. android (declan prefers iphones in reality but buys androids specifically so he can drone about planned obsolescence)
- sports (dreadful but necessary)
- game of thrones (see chloe’s post)
- ambiguous fitness things. is he considering signing up for a cross fit class? maybe. how long has he been telling people he’s considering this? thats his business ;)
#these are all almost exclusively taken from watching my dad talk to my uncles at family parties#or my uncle who is the most fascinatingly boring man i have ever met#like he truly seems to lack interests its unreal#trc

hm... pop/indie pop... i get 'sitting by the window' vibes... likes older technology more than new
omg wow i feel very called out wrt to the music. my top genres in spotify are probably desi pop and pop. like even in desi music my taste is basic as fuck. yeah i listen to pritam what about it.
windows are my best friend (the type that distracts you from getting any work done).
and yeah i hate most new technology. like ik this is hypocritical from the tumblr user but all other forms of social media terrify me like wtf is up with instatoktikgramfacechatsnapbookf7r3eru!w#@fbsi3ye [runs into an electric fence]. also hate most new physical devices. i've had a single iphone 6 for over 7 years and i intend on using it until it literally cannot call people anymore and then switch to android. also loathe smart watches. wtf is this new you need chrome to run anything nonsense. only thing i do like is google docs over word just because word is hellish to use, and google docs has easy collaboration. but the file structure & organization in google docs is fucking absurd. like maybe i'm picky about this bc i'm a compsci girlie but what is UP with their file structure. the rules around shortcuts and ownership and shared drives vs drives that are shared are fucking indecipherable. but for resumes and fancy formatted stuff i jump straight to latex. call me a stem kid or w/e but it works and it's free. also all this alexa siri smarthome nonsense is horrifying.
^sorry you had to read all that
ask game: associate me with anything!

gonna be real honest cant bring myself to care about the peter parker vs peter parker debate (e.g. which peter parker is the better/more authentic/more realistic peter parker). all the recent spiderman movies were made by megacorporations yall. theyre all cash grabs. peter is supposed to be that little guy from brooklyn, any movie made with an eye toward the bottom line is never going to get the “soul” of him or whatever. i liked garfield’s parker too but can we stop pretending that those movies (made for cash grab reasons only.... not anything new or interesting done in them!!!! the same story told over again!!!! pls tell me what was so different about them we needed them only years after the maguire run) are ~~~so much more authentic and “real” and heartfelt than the mcu ones. this is the fucking iphone/android debate all over again it’s like!!! they’re the same thing babes!!!! maybe instead of trying to fight about who did the fictional superhero “right” focus on why movie makers feel the delirious need to remake and remake and remake without any real interest in revamping the material or providing anything new.
and it’s a moot point anyway! the only movie that’s gotten spiderman right was into the spiderverse and that’s the that on that. and you know why they did? bc they a) tried something new and interesting b) loved spiderman. the team involved loved the comics, loved spiderman, and they actually DID pour that love into their work in a recognizable way. no modern version of spiderman has really done that and tbh it’s annoying to watch people try to get some kind of moral superiority over liking garfield’s spiderman more than holland’s.
#me seeing people pretend that garfield's spiderman is somehow more heartfelt and soulful than holland's#or that there doesn't exist any soul in holland's spiderman at all..........#like bro both of these movies were made by megacorps who were after a cash grab and that's it#like that doesnt mean the people involved weren't trying to do a good job but it was still... a cash grab.....#like say what you will about holland's spiderman but they did at least try to do something a little different for him#i like garfield and i like his spiderman but it's literally the same story again. nothing is really different. are u kidding me.#anyway the POINT is superhero movies are becoming inherently soul-less and divided from their source material#and trying to pit them against each other in a bid for moral superiority is really fucking stupid lmao

Android vs. iPhone as a Gender Thing
Android vs. iPhone as a Gender Thing
The more I meet people As a man The more embarrassed I become Of my iPhone For no reason. Maybe I’m just being sensitive Or maybe the Android vs iPhone debate Is more a reflection of gender stereotypes Than otherwise. I know I know I know Loads of men use iPhones But like— is it really the same Compared to certain crowds of Upper middle class women…? Maybe it’s just all a big…

I was wondering how you set that gif of deckerstar at the piano as your wallpaper bc when I save it, it’s animated instead of a live pic on my iPhone so it doesn’t move. I’d appreciate it if you could explain how to get it to work for me! Thanks!
oh i'd love to help you anon but maybe it's an android vs. apple thing? because i have a samsung and i literally only saved the gif from tumblr, clicked on it to set it as my wallpaper and then my phone automatically converted it into a short video and that was that. maybe someone with an iphone knows what to do?

Will Your Next Smartphone be a Xiaomi? S20 FE 5G vs Mi 10T!
I must start off by saying WOW. Just a few short years ago, I wouldn't have dared to compare a pretty high end Samsung device to any Xiaomi phone. Here we are though, it's 2021, Huawei is pretty much out of the picture given that their phones don't have access to the Google services, Samsung makes great phones, but are usually quite pricey and Xiaomi isn't focused on making only cheap, budget smartphones anymore. Although not available worldwide, the Mi 10 Ultra, which takes every spec and brings it to the max is Xiaomi's way of giving us a sneak peak into what the future holds when it comes to their high end phones.
We are going to divide this comparison into 6 categories: Design, Screen, UI, Performance, Camera and finally, which one deserves your hard earned cash the most? If you're only interested in a specific, feel free to jump to that section through the video progress bar.
Ok, so first of all, the design and quality of the phones. This one is pretty easy, with Samsung you can feel that some corners were cut in order to bring the price down, we have seen this happening with most flagship killers. The back is made out a hybrid material, something that Samsung calls glasstic, but really, it feels like matte plastic. On the Mi 10T, we have Gorilla glass 5 not just on the front, but also on the back with this mirror-like effect. Also, the color of the back shifts from dark grey to almost silver, depending on the light. The frame is made out of aluminium on both, which is to be expected, but overall, the design of the S20 FE is just uninspiring. From the plain camera bump, to the larger bezels, I just don't think the S20 FE takes the crown when it comes to design. The bezels on this phone are slightly larger than on the predecessor, the Galaxy S10 Lite, so I can't say I'm pleased with this. Although the bezels aren't really slim on the Mi 10T either, when holding the phone, you can feel that the materials are of much higher quality, mostly because of the back. The camera bump is more pronounced but at least more interesting than just throwing 3 cameras in column and making the bump much wider than necessary. I must mention, this is not a 4 camera system, as the holes would lead you to believe, one of them is there just for the sake of symmetry. I will say though, the Mi 10T is quite a bit heavier than the S20 FE, a bit larger, mostly because of the larger screen and about a milimeter thicker, so if you appreciate thin & light, the Mi 10T might not be for you. If these things don't bother you, the Mi 10T is an absolute winner, being much closer to flagship territory than the S20FE, when it comes to the design.
Things are going to get a lot more interesting now, let's talk about the screens. On paper, the screen of the Mi 10T might look like the winner. After all, it's larger, coming in at 6.67 inches instead of 6.5 inches and it has an impressive 144Hz refresh rate, rather than 120Hz. There's a catch though, the screen on the Mi 10T is an IPS LCD panel, unlike the Samsung which has an AMOLED screen. This right here is a significant difference and the sole reason why the screen on the Mi 10T is not as good as it could be. Blacks are not as deep as on the AMOLED, because of the backlighting, the refresh rate isn't as impressive as it sounds on paper, because of the high response time, which looks like ghosting if you pay attention. I'm not sure it would've fit the budget, but I can honestly say a 90Hz AMOLED screen would've been the better choice, instead of going all out on the refresh rate but not feeling this benefit because of the LCD panel. Because of the LCD panel, it also means that you are missing out on Always on functionality, but this is the smallest of drawbacks, if you ask me. On the other side, with the Samsung, it's the usual AMOLED with really saturated colors. If you switch colors from vivid to to normal, the colors become too washed out, much more than I'm used to on my iPhone. What I ended up doing is using vivid mode with the blue light filter activated. I'm sure color accuracy suffers because of this, but at least the screen looks closer to what I'm used to.
Next up, we'll discuss the UIs, because it's an important category. This does come down to personal preference though, so what I'll do is tell you what each one can do and any drawbacks that they may have. Let's start off with Samsung, this S20 FE 5G rocks One UI 3 on top of Android 11 and to be honest, Samsung has got their stuff together when it comes to UIs. I get updates quite frequently and will continue to get Android updates until Android 13, Samsung has their own identity now, I like their browser better than Chrome. Also something great that Samsung did for one-handed use is using these large headers at the top, which disappears when scrolling, but mean that you can easily access the buttons when opening the app. Samsung's dedicated one-handed mode is elegant and can be adjusted so the screen shrinks to exactly the size you need. As far as bugs and glitches go, I can happily say that I haven't experienced none and the interface is smooth. On the Mi 10T we have MIUI 12 running on top of Android 10, so we're starting off already with an older version of Android, but this should be updated to Android 11 at some point, hopefully... MIUI feels a bit snappier and it has a lot of great looking notifications, maybe a bit overdone, but it cheers me up seeing stuff happening instead of the boring notifications we all got used to. I like the fact that I can get to the quick settings panel through a single swipe on the right side of the screen instead of two swipes on Samsung. The video toolbox is extremely useful as it lets you listen podcasts on Android with the screen closed. It's not all rosy though, the phone app is for example the stock android one and the UI elements just don't seem MIUI-like, the background of the app is blueish, whereas all the other apps are black because I have dark mode on. Sometimes, an app I use frequently, cellmapper is stuck open and the only way to close it is by force-closing. I am happy to report, though that there are no ads here. In the end, it comes down to personal preference, if you like your phone to be more animated, you'll like MIUI, if you want a more sober experience, go with One UI.
Performance wise, not much to say, both are at the flagship level, given the Snapdragon 865 equipped by both. 6GB of RAM on both, as these are the base models, MIUI seems to be a bit more aggressive with RAM management but this can be tweaked on a per-app basis, so your most used apps aren't going to get closed. I'm impressed that I don't feel the change in the refresh rate on the Xiaomi, as it is adaptive, it's smooth all throughout. One thing I like about the Xiaomi is the side mounted fingerprint reader, it's blazing fast, much faster than any phone I've used so far. With the on screen fingerprint sensor on the S20 FE, I almost always struggle to get it to unlock, it's harder to keep your finger stationary on glass and it seems to have a hard time reading my finger. Overall, I'll give this to the Mi 10T, the fingerprint scanner tips the scale in its direction for sure.
Cameras are a category where sometimes you can really feel that corners were cut. In this case, the Mi 10T doesn't have a telephoto camera, Xiaomi choosing to offer a 5MP macro lens, which although miles better than the 2 MP, it still doesn't come anywhere close to the telephoto when it comes to usefulness. The main camera is a 64MP shooter on the Mi 10T, using pixel binning to get 16MP photos, whereas on the Samsung we have a 12MP sensor. Overall, both take good shots, with the Xiaomi having more details, but losing out on dynamic range and in low light conditions, which is why I'll give this one to Samsung. The Mi 10T shoots 8k video, but that's a gimmick, as there is no video stabilisation at 8k, so you'll most likely end up shooting 4k to get usable video.
So, now the final question. Which one should you get? Well, here's the deal, both of these smartphones are great, but for the price difference, $699 vs about $499, it's hard to justify the price of the Samsung. Yes, the camera is better on the Samsung, but on the other hand, the design on the Mi 10T is higher quality than on the Samsung. I can only recommend the S20 FE if you want an all-around better camera system, partly due to the telephoto, partly due to better dynamic range and low light capabilities or if you absolutely can't live without OLED, though I'd recommend checking it out in real life before making the call. If the camera's not your main focus, spare the money and get the better looking, higher quality built Mi 10T.

GET TO KNOW THE BLOGGER.
✧ can be used for RP and non-RP blogs to get to know a bit about the person behind the screen!
1. FIRST NAME: i used to go by my middle name, nina, but now i go by pacifica or paci.
2. STRANGE FACT ABOUT YOURSELF: i have a bunch of weird ailments that honestly are just wild. like sometimes my nerves make me spasm or collapse or i’ll become hyperflexible. my kidneys decided they were lonely so they are... snuggled together... and i’ve had cancer a few times. it’s exhausting.
3. TOP THREE PHYSICAL THINGS YOU FIND ATTRACTIVE ON A PERSON: - smile / facial features. outside of aesthetics, you can tell if someone is superficial or genuine through the intensity of their smile, or if they’re fabricating their appearance or background. i wouldn’t want someone to pretend for me. i want them to be how they are. - personal care. i don’t have preferences on hair / grooming outside of being well-kempt. file your nails & clean them ( like if ur a mechanic or factory worker or other types of physical labor, i get it-- but like an office worker with black nails? ick ), brush/comb/finger detangle/style your hair, make sure your clothes are reasonably presentable... clean, like you actively tried to come up with an ensemble. - physique. not saying people need to be like 8 pack or straight out the gym. nor am i saying i need someone to be like mega massive or mega thin. but preferably someone who like... is comfortable in the skin they’re in, and cares about their body. at the least, cares about what goes in their body and how much their body does for them.
4. A FOOD YOU COULD EAT FOREVER AND NOT GET BORED OF: haribo snacks.
5. A FOOD YOU HATE: i cannot handle the smell of mustard or mayonnaise. i will literally walk out of a room.
6. GUILTY PLEASURE: i try to cut out needless carbs and snack foods, but y’all........ throw some good naan or pita at me and i’m a sucker. i love my hot cheetos and takis, pls don’t take them from me.
7. WHAT DO YOU SLEEP IN: a sweater and panties tbh. i’ve turned into that basic single person in their 20s. if i’m cold i’ll throw on sweatpants too.
8. SERIOUS RELATIONSHIPS OR FLINGS: i vastly prefer serious relationships, but there’s got to be a lot of build up to it for me to pursue someone in that manner. that being said, idk why, apparently i seem unapproachable or intimidating, but i’ve always had to ask out the person i liked.... ask me out first, u fools. i’ve tried to do flings but like i always feel guilty afterward bc i’m not invested, i just pretend hoping maybe i’ll fool myself in the process and i don’t lmao. that being said, it’s been like over a year since i’ve last dated, and two years had passed between that partner and the previous one.
9. IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN THE PAST AND CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WOULD YOU AND WHAT WOULD IT BE: nothing. maybe switch my triple minor to an interdisciplinary double major because that sounds cooler in this point in my life. but other than that? i feel like i did well with the cards that were handed to me. they shaped me into who i am now. and now i’m trying to continue to be a person past me would be proud of. i want to live a life with little to no regrets. to pursue everything i can while i have the opportunity to.
10. ARE YOU AN AFFECTIONATE PERSON: physically, yes. emotionally, it depends. my coworkers are always either thrilled to see me or are like “ it’s paci being over the top cute. ” i love coming into the room to give hugs or do random acts of service or to shower someone with surprise gifts just to say i appreciate them. however, i can be emotionally distant at times and i don’t like to involve people into things. i still feel guilty on most occasions when i vent, even though i know it’s healthy to do. i feel like it’s not other people’s responsibility to deal with my problems or have to endure them, even if it’s as little involvement as listening. such an attitude isn’t great, but... at least i can recognize that now? lmao. u know. baby steps. i’m still learning to trust and let people in. when my former best friend broke my heart it really messed me up in a lot of ways.
11. A MOVIE YOU COULD WATCH OVER AND OVER AGAIN: i love pocahontas, mulan, princess and the frog, and peter pan starring mary martin. i’ve been watching that specific peter pan since like..... birth......... and it’s still one of my favorite films.
12. FAVORITE BOOK: dante’s divine comedy.
13. YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO KEEP ANY ANIMAL AS A PET, WHAT DO YOU CHOOSE: a long-haired cat, preferably a tortoise color. i’ve always thought munchkin cats were the cutest. i’d want something that is as independent and self-sufficient as i am.
14. TOP FIVE FICTIONAL SHIPS [IF YOU ARE AN RP BLOG, YOU CAN USE YOUR OWN SHIPS AS WELL]: yufi & age-appropriate love and joy. tseng also deserves love. & literally everyone in ace attorney could get it..... except dahlia hawthorne, forget her. also... all the important people in devil may cry deserve someone. so.... that’s what i have for you.
15. PIE OR CAKE: pie. i don’t eat nearly enough of it. kinda underrated in the pnw, i feel like? but in the midwest we loved pies... kinda miss that.
16. FAVORITE SCENT: sandalwood, vanilla, lavender, and gentle scents like ‘ ocean ’ or ‘ linens ’.
17. CELEBRITY CRUSH: shrugs? no one atm. i do not keep up with pop culture these days. can i count kyo from dir en grey? i’ve thought he was hot for the last 15 years and counting........ 14 y/o me was really like “ he’s the one ” too!!
18. IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD YOU GO: i love visiting friends. and like... idk? japan is still interesting, as is italy and greece and jerusalem. but i don’t have like... a burning urge to go anywhere. i’d like to return to vietnam & cambodia at some point as well. people tell me melbourne is my kind of vibe, but... i’ll get there when i get there.
19. INTROVERT OR EXTROVERT: ambivert. though for all that i project in personality, i do take a lot of time to myself to kind of recharge, as you will.
20. DO YOU SCARE EASILY: i do. but i still like scary games bc i enjoy the thrill and chase. suspense is really cool-- gore is not, imo.
21. IPHONE OR ANDROID: android. i’ve been using samsung galaxy phones since like 2013 and i’m not going back now. i had an ipad once and........ i’m over that. but i’m not like gonna participate in the dumb android vs apple debate........ we’re adults and it’s 2020, c’mon now. put ur energy into something else.
22. DO YOU PLAY ANY VIDEO GAMES: y’all......... i wish i could be like ‘ i’m a gamer grl ’ but the truth is that i mainly collect games and say i’ll play them but it takes me a trillion years sfdgiohfgiohdf. my backlog is shameful. we don’t talk about that. that being said, i just took up ace attorney: spirit of justice this evening & i’ve been playing through kingdom hearts iii and yakuza 0 as of late.
23. DREAM JOB: to write poetry & creative nonfiction at my leisure dfogihdohg. travelling writer, sharing about cultures all over the world & the beauty of interaction. very whimsical, i know! i also love studying languages and culture...... so it’s no question writing, sociology, cultural anthropology and linguistics were/are my fields of study.
24. WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A MILLION DOLLARS: pay off my loans, throw like half of it in savings for it to grow, give some to my mum bc she deserves to live comfortably, and..... take some time off work to just relax and rediscover myself. while work does give me purpose, it also takes away from my creative pursuits so like... that blows.
25. FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU HATE: it took me like 10 years for sorceress adel to stop giving me nightmares, so like. probably her. the pennywise energy was too strong. and on that note...... all clowns and clownlike energy should just burn. pennywise, saw. y’all got to go.
26. FANDOM THAT YOU WERE ONCE A PART OF BUT AREN’T ANY LONGER: final fantasy, ahaha. also metal gear. xeno like doesn’t have a place for it to gather and it’s ridonk small..... but i love xeno games. and i used to love watching sbfp but since they disbanded... it’s a sad world out there.

GET TO KNOW THE BLOGGER.
Can be used for RP and non-RP blogs to get to know a bit about the person behind the screen
1. FIRST NAME: Gold
2. STRANGE FACT ABOUT YOURSELF: I can bend my leg behind my head.
3. TOP THREE PHYSICAL THINGS YOU FIND ATTRACTIVE ON A PERSON: ...
4. A FOOD YOU COULD EAT FOREVER AND NOT GET BORED OF: It’s honestly a tie between spaghetti and pizza.
5. A FOOD YOU HATE: Lemons. I don’t HATE them, exactly, but I was never a fan of the taste... Though I don’t care much for sour stuff in general, to be honest.
6. GUILTY PLEASURE: I occasionally like to listen to old cartoon intros, like Code Lyoko or Yu-Gi-Oh 5D’s. They’re corny as hell, but they’re also really nostalgic to me.
7. WHAT DO YOU SLEEP IN: Pajamas
8. SERIOUS RELATIONSHIPS OR FLINGS: None
9. IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN THE PAST AND CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WOULD YOU AND WHAT WOULD IT BE: Honestly? There are a lot of things I wish I could go back and undo or unsay, but I don’t think I’d change any of it. Learning from your mistakes so that you don’t repeat them is part of life.
10. ARE YOU AN AFFECTIONATE PERSON: Not really.
11. A MOVIE YOU COULD WATCH OVER AND OVER AGAIN: Pacific Rim. It’s not the best movie ever, nor is it even my favorite, but how can you get tired of giant robots vs giant monsters?
12. FAVOURITE BOOK: If I had to choose, I suppose I’d say the Ranger’s Apprentice series. Don’t ask me to pick a specific title.
13. YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO KEEP ANY ANIMAL AS A PET, WHAT DO YOU CHOOSE: Honestly, probably nothing high-maintenance. Maybe a fish of some kind?
14. TOP FIVE FICTIONAL SHIPS [IF YOU ARE AN RP BLOG, YOU CAN USE YOUR OWN SHIPS AS WELL]:
I’m not really much into shipping, but I suppose if I absolutely have to list some pairings that I’m fond of...
Dorothea x Edelgard (Fire Emblem Three Houses) Shirou x Sakura (Fate/Heaven’s Feel) Ainz x Chise (Ancient Magus Bride) Garnet x Zidanne (Final Fantasy 9) Shovel Knight x Shield Knight (Shovel Knight)
15. PIE OR CAKE: (Ice cream) cake
16. FAVOURITE SCENT: Mint
17. CELEBRITY CRUSH: None
18. IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD YOU GO: I honestly wouldn’t mind visiting the Smithsonian.
19. INTROVERT OR EXTROVERT: Introvert, though I’m not completely antisocial.
20. DO YOU SCARE EASILY: Not really.
21. IPHONE OR ANDROID: I don’t really care, so long as I can make phone calls.
22. DO YOU PLAY ANY VIDEO GAMES: HAHAHAHAHA... Yes.
23. DREAM JOB: Author
24. WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A MILLION DOLLARS: Save it.
25. FICTIONAL CHARACTER YOU HATE: Jaguar Man. Unpopular opinion, but they’re an unnecessary comic relief character who ruins just about every scene they’re in.
26. FANDOM THAT YOU WERE ONCE A PART OF BUT AREN’T ANY LONGER: I used to be pretty big into CreepyPastas, nowadays? Not so much.

How do you generally write your replies to asks or threads or rp stuff? On the Tumblr app or on your computer? I'm thinking about making myself two or three rp tumblr blogs (I'd like one for Stephen King's Carrie, another one for Marvel's Morbius and maybe a third one for Wonder Woman) but I don't have a computer atm and I wonder how comfortable it would be to rp using the phone app only/how good it would look. This is an amazing Vision blog btw!
{out of equations} I actually do a healthy balance of both. At night when I’m relaxing at home and watching TV or whatever, I vastly prefer the computer. I type faster when on the computer and it’s just physically easier. But then when I’m out and about, sitting in a restaurant or a doctor’s office or somewhere where I’m just waiting for a while not doing much, I’ll whip out my phone and work on replies there. As far as the actual writing, aside from it being easier for me to type on a computer vs. a phone, it’s really not better or worse to do either. But as far as the Tumblr site is concerned, there are honestly good and bad aspects to both ways of using it.
The app is really a pain as far as formatting. Now, sure, you can do things like adding colored text a lot easier on the phone and without requiring actual coding, but you can’t use a blog theme or really complex text formatting because it just simplifies everything. There are a lot of bugs on the Tumblr app that make using the phone completely obnoxious to me. For example, if you place a title on your text post on the computer, it will remain at the top no matter how many times the thread is reblogged or the reblogs are deleted from it. But if you so it on the phone, for whatever reason it will downgrade the title to a heading that will then disappear when you inevitably trim the reblogs off the thread. I have no idea if there even is a way to make titles that actually function as titles on the phone, but maybe there is?
Another annoying thing about using the phone (and this is more recent, so maybe it’s an actual bug that’ll be fixed as opposed to just a stupid update) is that when I tell the phone to delete all reblogs from a thread, it will appear to have done that, but the it will leave the first reblog that was there at the top. So this results in the reblog having like... a post you don’t want randomly still up there and then your reblog? Which... makes things really confusing if you’re trying to keep track of the thread’s story? I don’t know how to fix that one either.
Also... when switching from Tumblr app/mobile to the Tumblr site on a computer, I still sometimes am unable to edit or even open my posts because it will say “Oops! This appears to have been edited in the mobile version. Please use the app.” Or something like that. Such a pain.
The other thing is... they appear to have taken away the ability to save an ask answer for later on the Tumblr mobile app? I used to be able to start answering and then just save my response in my drafts if I have to close the app and I’m not done yet. Now there’s no option to do that. I really hate that, it came in handy. You can do it on the computer while holding down Ctrl +Alt while actively in an ask text window and replying to it. If you hold down those keys, the options to either “Safe as Draft” or “Queue” will appear at the bottom right as buttons. So yeah, a definite advantage over mobile.
Also, in the case of “read more” links, those breaks in the post where writers can cut off their super long mega posts with a link to the full version so that people don’t have to scroll through a wall of text on their dash? Yeah, those don’t work on mobile, heh. Well okay, no, they work.... but you don’t have the option of using them on mobile. So if someone has set one up on the computer, it will function in mobile, but people who are mobile only don’t have the option of using “read more” links.
The biggest problem with mobile is that people with complex themes for their blogs or even ones like mine that are Tumblr simple, haha, can have info pages set up as links you can click to go to more information, and those don’t even show up on mobile. Even if people send you the urls, when you click on them they will only go to their main blog and not to the pages. So that means you won’t be able to view any muse or mun info or any rules pages set up that way. That doesn’t mean you can’t ask someone to kindly post or send you the information, but that makes it kinda hard for blogs with passwords or muns that won’t even talk to you until you’ve read their stuff.
However... not everything on the Tumblr app is worse than on the computer. On the computer... there are various forms of gif files that function as gifs on other sites and in graphic editing programs, but will not open on Tumblr. For example, I’ve noticed that gifs saved as text map or .txt files and gifs with urls ending in .gifv instead of .gif will not open on Tumblr. Whether you cut and paste the url or you open it from a file on your computer, they just won’t work. The gif will blip away and an “error loading gif” error message will appear. I’ve gotten around this somewhat but simply editing the file extension back to .gif, but that only works sometimes, and I have not found a way to open gifs saved in text map formats. So this makes it really annoying when trying to add reaction gifs. On the app, though...... I seem to be able to post just about any gif I want. So that is a definite plus.
Also, if you want colored text on the computer, you have to code for it, and honestly, I’ve forgotten how to do any of that, haha. Even if you set it up on your phone and then open the post on a computer, the computer version will wipe out all formatting and coloring that you did. Super annoying.
There are also a lot of bugs on the website that are not present in mobile, such as links not going where they should (how many times have I clicked on my blog’s activity feed only to be sent to my dash, ugh), and random spaces being added in the middle of my text posts that I didn’t place there? o_O
So... I guess I would say that functionally speaking I prefer the computer version, but there is a lot to be said for the portability of the phone and being able to work on stuff whenever you have five minutes. I should also mention that I have the Android version of the Tumblr app, so... I don’t know if maybe the iPhone version is different or better or worse. But I do know people who are 100% on the computer version, 100% on some kind of mobile version, or people like me who switch back and forth, and we all seem to be finding our ways just fine, so I think whatever version you choose, you’ll acclimate to that and adjust your style and habits accordingly.
I hope this was helpful! (^-^)/ (Also thank you so much, I’m glad you like this blog! Vision is such a sweetie, isn’t he? XD)

The eternal iOS vs Android debate
So, hello everyone. Since this is my first entry as a tumblr user, maybe not too many people will read this but that won’t keep me to tell you a little story of my personal experience with smartphones and what I think is the better platform of the two mentioned in the title. My very first smartphone (let’s only start counting from the time when smartphones actually WERE smart, with easily downloadable apps and whatnot) was an iPhone 4. Got it off contract and a plan separately to keep monthly rates as low as possible. I stayed with Apple for several years, even built the entire infrastructure around my iPhone with a Mac, an iPad, an Apple TV and even an AirPort Extreme. Then came the time when I got bored with my phone and mostly its tiny screen. Actually I just got the iPhone 5S right after release and I loved Touch ID, the color (got the golden version) etc. But many friends of mine had Android phones that were oftentimes significantly larger. So in order to get a much larger phone I switched to Android and stayed there. From Kitkat all the way to Android Pie, from Samsung over Motorola to Huawei, I got quite a few models and I was very happy with most (except for the Moto X Style which has a different name in the US, that was a piece of junk!). My last Android phone which I’ve only had for about four months now was the Huawei P30 Pro. Amazingly versatile camera, brilliant low light performance, beautiful colors (on the back of the device I mean), humongous battery life and all, I love it. But I decided to switch back to Apple now. I picked the often criticized iPhone Xr for numerous reasons: It’s cheaper than the regular model, it got a better battery life and it comes in cool colors. Of course, coming from a phone of almost 6.5″, 8 GB of RAM, a quadruple camera and a battery of over 4000 milliamps I thought I might regret the potential downgrade. You know what? So far I can’t say that I do. The yellow (in which I got the iPhone) is beautiful, the screen is nowhere near as bad as people say (even though understandably it could still have a higher resolution at this price point). In fact it’s even quite good. The camera isn’t good for zoom like the 5x optical of the P30 Pro, also not very good for macro or night shots. But the HDR is way nicer and portrait works almost as good. Something else I’ve always loved about Apple was the attention to detail. The effects implemented in iMessage, Animoji with the cool MeMoji that you can make of yourself, all that is so very well done. Especially the face tracking of the latter works so well it puts everything else (sorry Samsung with your creepy avatars) in the shadow.
Now, since this is supposed to be a differenciated evaluation rather than an iPhone Xr review I’d like to get back to the differences. See, both Android and iOS come with their very own qualities and faults. What’s better for you simply depends on what you need and what you want. You want great ways to personalize your phone in both the way it works and looks? Android is for you. You want as much variety as possible when you want to get a new phone? Android has tons of phones it’s running on, from cheap to very pricey. Since there are so many different companies, they all try to make their flagships unique. So you can expect all of them to have specifications that you won’t find in most other handsets. Of course with iOS, you’re stuck with Apple’s iPhones. Do you appreciate consistency throughout the entire UI and across all apps? Sounds like you might appreciate iOS (believe me, when every other app seems to have their own set of emoji, it looks very much like patchwork on Android). Both software and hardware are made from the same company so it’s exceptionally well balanced. For a phone that doesn’t have anywhere near as much RAM as some flagship android devices, it’s still pretty damn fast. Even the Xr is quite snappy. The UI is not very flexible but that might also help making it very simple and easy to understand. The flat design is very well executed, especially with the silky glass effects in different menus etc. But I also love Google’s material design to death. It’s really hard to say if I have a clear favorite here.
When it comes to the gimmicks and playful features or animations, as I’ve mentiones that hardly compares to anything else on the market.
One thing one has to keep in mind as well is the support of third party developers. Of course it’s self-explanatory that if you develop a mobile game, you’re more prone to start with iOS as your platform. You don’t have to pay attention to too many different configurations of chipsets and other hardware such as different screen resolutions and aspect ratios. So it’s less work for you to focus on iOS with just the iPhone and maybe the iPad. That was also one of the reasons I wanted to switch back to iOS. I’m highly anticipating the game Oceanhorn 2, which will come out as an iOS exclusive in the beginning. You will notice that with several apps.
Yet another reason was that I’m planning to get an Apple Watch. In comparison, I can’t say I dislike Android Wear but you can tell it’s struggling. Google seems to be not too interested in it. The watch I had kept disconnecting which was a big pain in the butt. It was oftentimes just annoying that I had to get into the Wear App on the phone, restart the watch and reconnect the whole thing. When I tried the Apple Watches of friends of mine, I found the user experience to be of a higher quality.
But lastly, the only real but CLEAR advantage of iOS over Android is the iPad. I mean, even though there might be high quality Android tablets on the market (and still coming up). But they will always have that one particular and crucial flaw: The app support. Apple takes great pride in the quality of their iPad apps on the App Store. They make sure that developers utilize the best APIs for the platform. Android tablet apps are usually inferior as they are only inflated Android phone apps that poorly make use of the screen’s larger real estate. So yeah, my conclusion is that as far as I can tell, wether iOS or Android is better merely depends on your needs and personal taste. With the exception of the iPad which is in my opinion the clear winner over any Android tablet on the market (since even Google refrained from making their own tablets because they realized their position). I’d like to know your point of view on this subject. So feel free to leave comments. Best regards, Oliver
