i really don’t understand how some fantasy high enjoyers don’t see the very obvious metaphor for aromantic denial within baron from the baronies in sophomore year. baron is a nightmare creature that came into existence because riz lied about having a partner so his friends wouldn’t bother him about it? he made up baron when his friends were all talking about the people they wanted to kiss? how is that not aromantic to some people. maybe it’s more obvious to me because i HAVE been in denial about being aro and made up crushes for myself and tried to pretend i had them. just because i felt it was a thing i needed to do, that it was a thing that EVERYONE had to have a crush and that it was normal. how do you see the confrontation between baron and riz as anything other than accepting aromanticism. this thing, his nightmares personified, says to him “the years will go by, and everyone will find someone that matters more to them than you.” as an aro person yeah that’s gotta be up there with the top ten nightmares.

how do you look at this interaction and NOT see an aromantic boy.

(for further elaboration, yes i am aware that aromantic people CAN want to kiss others and hell yeah power to you, i’m just saying that it’s a common thing to not care about kissing/not want to do it)

and another thing with with the fhigh fandom is that like, some people will go through every loophole they can to try and pair up riz anyways. aromantic people CAN be in relationship, of course, but why would people take this specific boy, who has repeatedly expressed distaste in being in a relationship, and ship him with other people. especially since fabian and riz is a common ship. is it because they’re best friends? is it because people value romance over friendship? oh they’re such close friends they must have a thing! it’s so stupid. why is it, that when a character is asexual (riz, being confirmed asexual), people respect that. they don’t often go “oh yeah i know they’re asexual but asexual people can have sex! or want to have sex! it’s a spectrum!”. (that is true, btw, ace people can have sex and all that. but it’s different when allosexual people do it to try and just make up excuses to not treat asexual characters like they’re asexual.) why do i mostly see it done with aromantic people? one of this boy’s biggest fear is people pairing up and leaving him behind. how do you see that as a boy who WANTS to be in a relationship? do you think he WANTS to pair up as well?

just because it’s not been outwardly confirmed and directly said “riz gukgak is aromantic” doesn’t mean that it’s not true, y’know? there’s subtext, there’s symbolism, there’s metaphors, there’s DIRECT REFERENCES TO RIZ NOT LIKING ROMANCE! i don’t really know how people can see him as alloromantic

God, the Davrin/Harding choice at the end is so ouchy for me. Like Harding, I love you but have you met Davrin? A man searching for purpose in a world where the elves are societally hemmed into fulfilling only those tasks that guarantee survival?

Survival is everything that the Dalish are: "We are the last of the Elvhenan, never again shall we submit", and it's so viscerally apparent in every aspect of his character. He does not submit to the idea that a Dalish boy can only have freedom amongst the Dalish, he does not submit to the false imaginaries of the world written by human scholars and chooses to find and record the truth, he does not submit in the face of impossible odds, faces death head on. He is always always running from the legacy of survival the Dalish are forced to bear, throwing himself bodily into hunting dangerous creatures, into the death sentence of the joining, into the final blow against the Archdemon.

He wants nothing but purpose, but meaning. He eschews that desperate and scattered hope to 'just survive' in favour of dying for something important. And in the end, his story becomes about reconcilling that history of survival with purpose - he, and the Dalish CAN in fact do more than survive. They can thrive, and have purpose in the act of living another day further. Not by turning back into their pasts but by moving forward (in contrast to Bellara's 'better' ending.) I think this is true regardless of the final choice at the end of his story. It's more obviously a reconcilliation between his Dalish heritage and search for purpose if the griffons go to Arlathan, but there's something poignant about sending them back to the wardens. Of saying 'this time they will not be fodder fed to purpose, but rather we will work with them so that all of us live more fruitfully'.

Purpose stops being an end. It is not incompatible with living. Davrin always knew this in his heart, but now he's finally committed to living it. And I just cannot, cannot prevent him from continuing on. No matter how beautiful his words in the regret prison are (and oh boy did they make me bawl, 10/10 companion I love him so much.) I've made the choice once, and I'm afraid I can never make it again.

this is so niche but maybe there are about 2 people in the world that would appreciate this crossover of my two obsessions: tma and bsd

gertrude robinson and agnes montague are giving soukoku

(spoilers i guess for both)

gertrude robinson is so obviously dazai it hurts

in tma gertrude is THE character and in bsd tha would be dazai. they are both the most powerful characters in a way and the ones that are dealing the cards

a lot of the time dazai just kinda *knows* things and the theory is that it is linked to his ability and the existence of multiple realities, whether that’s true or not it is kinda similar to how beholding works

dazai’s nullification ability and gertrude’s life mission to stop the rituals, idk there’s a parallel here. there’s also the fact that gertrude made sure most entities cannot affect her and dazai’s ability protects him from other ability users

they are both ruthless in their pursuit of their goals, and their attitude towards other people is the same, they are not above manipulating and using others to achieve results

both pretty lonely people, even if they can work with others, no one really knows them or their plans

gertrude’s relationship with jonah and dazai’s relationship with mori, not one to one of course but come on

oh and gertrude’s apparent incompetence which turns out to be actually on purpose and *very important* in saving the world and dazai’s seemingly nonsensical actions that then turn out to be crucial elements of his big plan that he had from the very beginning

i would die on that hill, gertrude robinson IS dazai osamu, just less suicidal thoughts and more explosives. and definitely dazai would smash it as the archivist while gertrude would smash it at whatever it is that’s going on in bsd these days

now agnes montague and chuuya nakahara (i’ll admit this one is not as perfect but still)

this one is easy but let’s get this out of the way, both are ginger

agnes being created by the cult as the embodiment of desolation, and chuuya being made into a walking singularity, both of them being created by others as some sort of experiments, stripped of their agency

arahabaki, god of calamity, embodiment of destruction -> desolation, unthinking and cruel destruction

and then we have *the bond*, the only thing that’s stopping agnes from completing the ritual of destruction is gertrude, while the only thing that prevents chuuya from destroying everything around him including himself is dazai

I hope this isnt too weird, but i adore the way you play with sesames gender expression and how soft and gently he is, especially as a male au ra. i made myself a pink catgirl, but shes (in her out of game design) tall and buff and extremely butch in a way that i havent seen many other female miqotes styled, so i just really like seeing the way youve characterized sesame :3 hes very pretty and unique! and in general i think youve done a wonderful job of creating the characters of sesame, kaiien and your other ocs!
