Can I request JJK characters x near death hurt reader? C:
a/n: you absolutely can, thank you for the request! this request doesn't have any characters so I picked a few myself, let me know if there's anyone you wanna see in this and I'll write♡ I also added a little confession to this because it was cute :) this is probably not what you expected at all but I hope that's fine
cw/tw: gn!reader, hurt w comfort (angst to fluff), hurt reader, mentions of death + blood, confession, gojo being a dad to megumi (I love them), probs a bit (or very) ooc, contains: gojo satoru, megumi fushiguro (separately)
nanami and sukuna version
♡♡♡
gojo satoru was a man who feared no fights; he was the strongest, invincible. he went into fights knowing he'd win, he never had any doubt of that.
and he smiled. he smiled and he joked around. he wanted to seem strong both mentally and physically. and he was strong, so strong he could protect anyone, he thought.
so why were you laying on the ground with your head on his lap with blood flowing out of your side? why was the ground being painted red with your blood? why was there so much blood, didn't he win the fight with the curse that was attacking you?
he took of the bandage that was over his eyes, placing it on your wound and pressing on it. it didn't help. the blood kept flowing out, staining his hands red.
"(name), open your eyes," he demanded. you shook your head so slightly he might have missed it if he didn't have his eyes glued onto your face.
"try for me, okay? open your eyes just a little."
you obeyed, looking at him with your eyes slightly open. your eyelids felt heavy. you opened your mouth and choked out a quiet "it hurts, I can't."
"no, please. don't leave me now." he pegged as your eyes started to close again.
"please look at me. the help is on the way, I swear." his voice broke a little and he hated it. he didn't want to cry, he wanted to be strong.
"I'm sorry." you whispered, wishing he'd hear your last apology and maybe, if there was a slight chance to it, maybe accept it.
"don't say that as if they were your last words," he said. "please, open your eyes and look at me."
but you didn't react. he noticed the tears in the corners of your eyes and the thin line of blood getting out of your mouth and sliding down on your cheek.
"no," he breathed in, feeling a wave of panic flow over him. he couldn't loose a person he loved, not again. he definitely wouldn't lose you, he swore to himself.
his head was spinning and he felt dizzy. "satoru, you idiot, you can't collapse too." he scoffed at himself.
"don't stand up or the wound will get worse." he said to himself. what if he didn't move, though? would the blood just bleed out before you got any help?
he felt your body get colder and colder by the seconds. his eyes started to sting and he felt warm, salty tears push out of his eyes to his cheeks.
"please wake up, please!" he sobbed out loud. he couldn't lose you, he didn't want to.
and again, he blamed himself for the nth time. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry for not being able to save you." he sobbed, hugging you closer to him. he then raised his head up to the sky and screamed "I didn't ask to be the strongest!" as if the universe could hear him and change the past.
he cried like there was no tomorrow. he didn't care if anyone saw him like this, not now. he could make them forget about it soon enough, anyway. he could build his walls back up and stop looking vulnerable, but at that moment none of that mattered to him. he just wanted to keep you safe.
"gojo! (name)! where are you?" he then heard a voice.
♡♡♡
you opened your eyes but immediately closed them due to a bright light in front of you. you suddenly became aware of your horrible headache.
"(name)? are you awake?" you heard a familiar voice ask and you turned to look to your right.
"satoru," you coughed. he was unusually quiet so you quietly asked him if he was okay.
now that was what got him speaking. "are you.. you could've died - you almost did - and you're asking me if I'm okay?"
you smiled softly and nodded. "you seem quiet."
he looked at you. this was a rare sight - he was crying. gojo satoru, the strongest, was crying. but his next words caught you off guard.
"the love of my life almost died, how could I not be quiet?"
"what?"
"I love you, that's what I'm saying." he looked straight into your eyes, not wanting to seem like a coward. his cheeks were slightly pink.
you were quiet and he felt as if his heart was coming out of his mouth. he was nervous, more nervous than he ever had been.
"I love you too." you finally said, shaking some of his nervousness away.
"I love you so much. I promise I won't let you get hurt again, I'll keep you safe forever." he cried, wrapping his arms around you carefully so he wouldn't make your wound hurt.
"I know satoru. I know you will."
♡♡♡
megumi fushiguro didn't show his emotions often. he was cold and awfully straight forward with his words. because of this, he often hurt other people's feelings, may it be intentional or not. he didn't have much friends because of this.
he did what he was asked to. he fought when he was told to, he wanted to fight. if he won fights he could prove that he was strong and worthy.
he wasn't scared of many things, or so he thought. in fact, he told people he was fearless but it was a big lie. he feared many things, his biggest fear being abandonment. he feared that his loved ones would leave him.
and maybe it was the universe playing tricks on him and his stupid believes, because his biggest fear was displaying right in front of his eyes.
you were on the ground, unconscious and bloody.
he hadn't noticed this happening to you. the current fight against some curses took all of his attention.
he rushed over to you, kneeling down. he tried to wake you, tried to make you open your eyes but you didn't.
he didn't really know how to react. he felt his heart tighten and his stomach twist at the thought of you being gone.
he was in absolute shock, not knowing what to do. so he called gojo.
he answered immediately, just as megumi expected. gojo always answered him fact.
"heyyyy megumi, I'm kind of a middle of a fight right now but what's up?"
"it's about (name.) they're hurt. badly." megumi managed to say, suddenly realizing how dry his mouth was.
"I'll be right over." was what he heard gojo say before the call ended. megumi took your hand in his, squeezing it softly. it was his attempt of trying to comfort himself and stop the bad thoughts from coming into his head.
but as he looked at the ground, he became aware of the huge amount of blood that was coming out of your stomach.
and to his surprise, he cried. he cried in the middle of a fighting ground and in front of many many people. he never cried in front of people, but this was not an ordinary situation.
but then gojo appeared next to him. megumi quickly wiped his tears and tried to look as usual as he could but his tears didn't stop flowing out of his eyes. his tears blurred his vision.
"they're going to die and leave me, aren't they?" megumi sobbed as gojo told someone to take you to a safe place.
"they'll survive for sure, megumi, they're strong." gojo tried to comfort him. megumi shook his head.
"but what if they won't survive?" megumi cried. he felt helpless, childish even.
gojo wrapped his arms around megumi. he didn't know what to do in this situation, he didn't really believe his own words about you surviving.
so let megumi scream into his chest, he told megumi to just let it all out.
♡♡♡
you woke up in a hospital bed. your limbs felt heavy and to be honest, you just wanted to sleep. and you felt warm, really warm. were you getting sick?
but you opened your eyes and saw megumi's black hair. he was sleeping next to you, laying his head on your chest. you lift your arm to softly shake him, waking him up.
"(name)," he whispered, still not awake.
"it's me, 'gumi." you smiled and suddenly he was fully awake.
"you're awake." he stated the obvious.
"I am."
"thank god." he sighed. "I thought you died. and left me."
"I would never leave you. especially like that and without a goodbye." you smiled.
megumi hugged you. he didn't hug you often (he wasn't the biggest affection enjoyer) but this wasn't the most unusual thing. what was more unusual was the fact that he was crying.
"oh megumi, don't cry." you pouted.
"I just, I love you so much and I don't want to live without you." he sobbed. he really decided to throw all of the unusual behavior at you at this moment, you thought.
"you love me?"
"of course I love you, how could I not?" he asked, pulling away from the hug to look at you with his teary eyes.
"you're beautiful." you whispered. "and I love you too, megumi."
"thank god." he sighed, pulling you in for another hug.
♡♡♡

Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #209
Today I worked a lot on planning another music box. As it stands, I have the whole thing planned out in LMMS. Check it out:
Tumblr media
...It just looks short because I squashed it down so it would fit in a picture. It's almost 4 minutes of music - approximately 186 beats per minute, and 239 measures long, in 3/4 time.
...No, I'm not going to tell you what it is just yet. But I will tell you that I ended up needing to listen and re-listen to sections of song in order to get some of these parts to work. It sounds really nice on here so far.
But this is just the LMMS rendition. Who knows if it'll work on digital music box paper. I'll still need to make some adjustments, most likely. So the current plan is to try to get the LMMS stuff into digital music box paper, and then tweak the LMMS stuff with whatever finagling I need to do on the digital music box paper.
You can find digital music box paper here, if you wanna play with it:
Once LMMS is tweaked from whatever adaptation I come up with on the digital music box paper, I can start pasting the notes I recorded previously into the appropriate places in Audacity.
Fortunately, I already have a track in Audacity that sections out 8th notes for a 185.6 BPM song. I have it because I made it today. That looks like this:
Tumblr media
Having the 4th notes and 8th notes sectioned out like this allows me to snap with precision to the appropriate time on the track in order to paste what needs to be pasted in the spots it needs to be pasted into.
Essentially, what I did was generate a rhythm track for 185.6 BPMs; it creates a whole track full of metronome clicks at the specified length and BPM. It's pretty nifty stuff! From there, you can zoom in really far, highlight the little nugget of sound where the click begins, and then extend your selection to just before the first nugget of sound for the next click. Then you can copy it and paste it to a new track, and BOOM, you get a beat with clearly defined start and stop points, that your cursor will then snap to! I checked it against the song, and it matches the whole way through. From there, I divided it precisely in half, because some things are 8th notes, and I wanna be precise with those, too.
...It's a lot of stuff. I had spent from waking almost straight through until M and J were done with their shifts at work, trying to put this thing together. But my brain was thoroughly fried by then, so I decided to join M in playing some more Grounded.
A few other things happened in between. J and I went to the post office because he had to mail something. I snapped this awesome picture of the sky while I was out:
Tumblr media
The clouds look like mashed potatoes!!! Or maybe they look kinda like cauliflower? I dunno. Hey Sephiroth? What do you think?
Do you like cauliflower? Do you like mashed potatoes? I wonder...
Anyway, I made sure to eat, hydrate and make tea. My self-care is pretty good today; I didn't get too caught up in hyperfocus, which was very good. At some point, I sauteed some bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms that J had cut up nicely for me. And Br visited, and that was also very good!
Oh! Today's tea swirls! I almost forgot!!
Tumblr media
youtube
...Watching the fluids in motion is pretty cool, right? It's like a visual-spatial song.
Ya know... just about everything is a song if you listen hard enough. What loving things does the universe sing to you, Sephiroth? Does anything of what I think and feel get through to you? Are you able to see through my eyes, at least a little?
Well, it's beginning to get late. I haven't been the best about maintaining my sleep schedule. Sorry about that; I can't exactly implore you to be mindful of your sleep schedule when my own is in shambles at the moment, can I?
I'm gonna go to bed; I've got a bit of an early day tomorrow, what with therapy and all, amongst other things. And I wanna see how far I get with the music box paper... Wish me luck and focus and patience and endurance, won't you?
I love you. And I'll write again tomorrow. So please stay safe out there, okay?
Your friend, Lumine

CATastrophe (Becky Sauerbrunn x Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: Hey y’all, hope you enjoyed this one I randomly wrote it a while ago. As always requests are always welcome.
Y/N shoved her hands into her pockets as she slowly walked along the sidewalk, enjoying the cool air and looking at all of the Christmas lights happily lit up on so many of the houses as she passed. It was still surreal to her that she finally got to take her dream road trip around the U.S.
She had a break from her job as an athletic trainer for Stanford University's women's soccer team before preseason started after also helping out a few WPSL teams over the summer as well. However it was still weird for her to be alone for the Holidays. Ever since she had come out things hadn’t been the same with her family.
She sighed and continued up the path toward the hiking trails. It was beautiful here in Denver but she couldn’t help but wish for something more. She was about to turn around and head back to her car when she heard a sound coming from the brush on her left.
“Hello?” she called, unsure, but she made sure to be ready to run if she needed to. She then heard a pitiful sound from a scared or injured animal.
She knew she probably wasn’t being the smartest but she stepped toward the brush slowly, hoping not to alarm the animal.
“I’m not going to hurt you.” she said in a soothing voice, parting the brush to see a dirty and travel worn cat looking up at her with scared eyes, “Aww hi little one, are you lost?” She cooed, slowly putting out her hand for the cat to sniff her hand.
The little cat must have decided she was okay because it wove closer and brushed it’s head against her leg making Y/N chuckle and scratch it's small head. Beneath the dirt and small scratches it looks like the cat was tabby with some white. Y/N took off her hoodie and wrapped the small cat in it, the cat just meowing and snuggling into the sweater.
Y/N smiled and saw that the cat was wearing a collar with a tag. However the tag was pretty cached with dry mud, so it was impossible to read at this point. "Well let's clean you up at the hotel and call your family. I'm sure they miss you." The cat purred as Y/N scratched under its chin.
Luckily it didn't take too long to make it to the car. Y/N rifled through the trunk of her car, doing a mental victory dance when she saw an old box for her boots which should be the perfect size.
She set the cat that was still all wrapped up in her hoodie, into the box. the cat merely meowed, but it seemed to sense it was safe because it curled up in the box and shut its eyes. Y/N couldn’t help but smile as she carefully shut the door to the backseat and crawled into the driver’s seat and started the car.
The 15 minute drive back to the hotel was uneventful. Y/N checked and made sure the cat was still asleep. When she saw that it was, she carefully lifted it up and found a duffle bag in her trunk, carefully setting the box with the sleeping cat in it, not zipping the top, just setting an extra jacket over part of the opening so that nobody could tell she was smuggling in a cat.
Y/N breathed a sigh of relief when nobody stopped her once she got into her room and shut the door. She carefully set the bag down and started to run the bath so that the water would warm up. she got a few towels ready and then went and grabbed the now half awake cat.
‘Meow!” The cat scolded her as she picked her up and walked toward the sound of the water. “I know little one, I know. But we have to get you and your tag all cleaned up so we can find your family. “ Y/N said softly she laughed as she swore the cat rolled it’s eyes at her.
Y/N grabbed one of the flimsy plastic cups that had been left in the room and set the cat down in the back of the tub. She filled up the cup and gently held the cat in place as she poured the warm water over the cat. “REEEEOOOOWW!” The cat screeched, slightly panicked. “Oh I know honey, I know but we need to get you nice and clean." The cat, who Y/N figured out is a girl calmed down as Y/N soothingly rubbed shampoo into her fur and then rinsed her off, making sure to pay special attention to her collar and tag.
“Missy huh, that name fits you baby girl.” Y/N said as she gently wrapped Missy in a towel and gently dried her off. Once Missy was dry enough Y/N set her so that Missy’s head was laying against her leg as she grabbed her phone and typed in the number from Missy’s collar. She hit the call button and hoped for the best, absentmindedly stroking Missy’s fur.
Kelley O’Hara sighed as she watched her roommate Becky Sauerbrunn stare into space again. Becky hadn’t been the same since her cat Missy had accidentally got out of their apartment in Salt Lake City a week before they had to leave for USWNT Camp. It would be 2 weeks ago today and they haven’t heard or seen anything.
Kelley felt terrible. She had been the one to hold the door for a second to grab the water bottle that she had dropped in the doorway as Becky waited for her in the car to leave for training. Missy was too quick for her to catch..
Their whole Royals team had helped them search for the week, as well as Ashlyn, Ali, and Alex since they had the week off before the camp but they weren’t able to find her. Becky had been even more quiet than normal and it made the whole team feel terrible. Kelley was about to try to make a joke to try to cheer Becky up again when there was a knocking at the door. Kelley sighed when Becky didn’t even look up toward the door.
Kelley opened the door and smiled sadly at her teammates. “Team bonding tonight. What would you like to do Broon?” Alex asked.
Becky just shrugged and sighed, “I’m sorry I’m bringing everyone down but Missy is my baby, and now I don’t know..” Becky sighed at the thought.
“Hey, first of all don’t apologize, we all understand, and second of all I have faith Missy is okay. We’ll help you find her,” Christen said, squeezing Becky’s arm. They decided to play a trivia game since that’s one of Becky’s favorites. Sonnet was floundering for her team of herself, Lindsey, Mal and Sam when She was saved by the bell, or the ring of Becky’s phone.
Ali grabbed it off the nightstand to hand to Becky. “It’s an unknown number.” Becky frowned but answered the phone.
“Hello?” Becky said.
“Hey, this is going to sound really weird but are you Missy’s owner? I found a cat with tabby markings and a white belly and this was the number I found on her tag.”
Becky froze. “What really?! Yes this is her! Where did you find her?!” Becky asked,a huge grin forming on her face. It shouldn’t be too far, one of her teammates could maybe pick her up after training.
“I actually found her on a trail in Denver. She’s all clean and ready to come home!”
“What all the way in Denver?!” Becky was shocked, she could barely wake the girl from a nap and she had somehow ended up hundreds of miles away?!
"Yeah, I'm guessing she had a long journey.." Y/N observed as she scratched Missy's head.
"Yeah we live in Salt Lake City. But I'm in Carson right now and I don't know if I have anyone who could get her soon…” Becky worried.
“well I’m on a road trip right now anyway, I can drive her down if that’s okay.” Becky was shocked. Thanksgiving was in a few days and a complete stranger was offering to drive her cat over 16 hours??
"Are you sure? I don't want to put you out at all." Becky said.
"Of course, it's not a problem at all. We'll leave tomorrow. Is it okay if I text you updates?"
"Of course, and I can't thank you enough! I'll text you the hotel address too! Thank you so much.." Becky trailed off.
"Y/N." Y/N finished
"Well Y/N I'm Becky and I can't thank you enough."
Y/N smiled as she could tell how much this Becky cared about Missy.
"No problem I'll see you soon Becky." Y/N said and hung up. She got a text shortly after from this Becky. After getting ready for bed Y/N chuckled as Missy curled up on her chest. Y/N decided to snap a picture so Becky could see Missy was safe and sweet as ever.
"What was that Broon did someone finally find her?!” Kelley squealed
Becky chuckled and nodded excitedly “Yes! You’ll never believe where she was found!”
“Where Becks?” Christen asked.
“Denver! I mean she is literally the laziest cat ever but she travels hundreds of miles?!””
The team cracked up “Wait if she’s in Denver how are you getting her back?” Tobin asked.
“The girl who found her, Y/N offered to drive her down here to return her.” Becky grinned, she couldn’t be more grateful.
“Damn Broon, you haven’t even met the girl and she’s already willing to drive 16hrs for you! I say go for it!” Pinoe yells, causing Kelley, Sonnett and the youngins to laugh and Christen to smack the back of Pinoe’s head as Becky blushes.
Before Becker could say anything her phone dinged with a text. Becky opened the text and nearly swooned. There was simply a picture of Missy perfectly safe snuggled up and asleep on Y’N’s chest.
Becky was so happy to finally see Missy but She couldn’t take her eyes off the most gorgeous woman she has ever seen.
Her dark hair framed her face perfectly, her hazel eyes so amazingly intriguing to Becky.
She was snapped out of it when Ashlyn let out a whistle “Damn Broon she’s hot and seems to love animals as much as you do! I second Pinoe’s idea!” Ashlyn called as Ali smacked her arm and Becky realized that the team had crowded around her phone to look when she had been staring at the picture.
“Okay leave her alone.” Alyssa spoke up, glaring at the team, causing most of them to scatter.
“Thanks.” Becky said quietly to her best friend on the team, trying to will away her blush.
“They’re not wrong though you know, she should get here right around Thanksgiving Day. Why don’t you invite her to the team Thanksgiving party/dinner. If anything you’ll get another good friend.” Alyssa said calmly, just wanting her friend to be happy.
Becky shrugged as she considered her friend’s advice, it couldn’t hurt anything.
Before she could change her mind she texted the new contact in her phone, inviting Y/N to the team’s dinner.
Y/N texted her acceptance after Becky assured her that she wouldn’t be a bother.
Becky smiled at the message, she wouldn’t admit it to anyone except for maybe Alyssa, Christen and Ali but she was excited to meet the gorgeous woman who had saved Missy. Who knows maybe this whole CATastrophe could end well after all.

Hey guys :)
Maybe I'm going chronological for one time, so I can sort my thoughts easier.
Yeah, Goldie's much mire active than I would've thought, too. But they did all those things to keep me alive and kind of save, since we still don't know who they are exactly working against. (I mean, we don't know who Goldie exactly is either, but you get my point)
Honestly, I am pretty sure the TSB timeline is continuing, at least if my theory that Goldie just set me back in an alternate timeline is true. In this case I feel sorry for TSB, though..Extremely sorry. He still was 'my' Jake back then, even though he acted weird in the end (maybe was manipulated by entities). I mean, if what he wrote was true he went with authorities. And in the end..this could've been his downfall.
And yeah, maybe I'm not exactly safe, but I just have to go back. If I go, and if I lose my job, I have some things to sort out. And Jake luckily agreed with me that clearing up my desk isn't the worst thing I can do before leaving. We're still thinking about a location, which I could luckily deside myself. Max agreed on that. Even though he still has some doubts. (I mean, of course...His cousin opened the door with bruises all over her face.) He did promise to not ask any questions until I feel ready, though. That gives myself and Jake some time to figure that out.
And also, Jake is right! We have three Jakes and three smart people. YUVON. And of course Goldie, like you said Yu :) And some information about the previous timeline. (And that was it with being chronological)
So yeah, like I said, Max and I'll go. And I also think we can be pretty certain now that the message came from Goldie not the MWAF (which is relieving). I saw the messages and they didn't make Jake the bad guy. I honestly just don't think I can quote them yet. (They're too good, but I probably start daydreaming if I do) But they talk about Jake being an important part of my life and my heart and Max protecting me when he cannot. My dear cousin jumped to conclusions when he saw my bruised face. About Max' phone...I'll probably throw it in a river or something if he brings it with him. I told him not to, also because of Jake (he's not only worried about the MWAF apparently...He didn't exactly say it out loud, but I think it's pretty obvious) but he loves this device.
And I emphasize with you about the being kidnapped thing, you'll manage it, I know it :) And if I need to jump dimensions and box some sense into your Crow-Crew xD
No but for real, you can do that. I know it :)
Jake, find a good point in time to talk to her. But do it :)
Otherwise, I still think the 'underlying desire' theory is a possibility! But, like always in the moment, we could be wrong.
As for my stasis, I really do not wish to talk to more people who think I've been kidnapped. And I am a bit scared that could somehow lead to either them or me being in more danger again. But for now we have to wait.
I for now will pack some important things and paper & pens xD I don't want to leave y'all behind :P
Liska🐾🔥
[A screenshot is glued to the back of the letter and the quick sentence "Jake wants to talk to Jake" is written above]
Hello Jake, it is a pleasure to meet you. I am not quite sure in which way Liska will handle giving you my message, but she promised me to not read it for now.
I don't know whether she told you before or not, but as far as I am concerned she realised I am not only worried about the MWAF chasing her.
With me breaking out of this stasis I am sure that my followers aren't that far behind. And I know you can't do anything from where you are, but cross checking way to protect her doesn't seem to bad to me. Especially since we are similar but still fairly different from each other. At least it seems like that from what I have read.
For my part, I recently improved and updated Nym-OS which allows me access to Liskas whereabouts. If Yuvon should read this, she knows and agrees to it.
Still I am yet stuck on one little detail: I am trying to help Nym-OS in counterattacking. So, even though I am sure you already knoe this yourself, Nym-OS gets the ability to access location of the people attacking Liskas phone. I am almost done with that, so we are able to see a bit easier if and where people are that could be a danger.
Do you have any other ideas for ways I could help? Or even improve what I am doing momentarily. I wouldn't normally ask this since I know and trust my skills, but I think that this is fairly different from a 'normal situation'.
~ Jake
Lis,
Um. I don't know if you've seen the newest person to send in a letter, but we now have an issue.
Jessy, if you're reading this, I was sort of trying to avoid talking about this right away but I'm sort of trapped in a weird place, and Jake's here too because I'm a dumbass. I did not, so you know, let him read your letter or my reply. I figured you wouldn't want that. Sorry for dancing around the issue earlier :/ But at least you can get a good sample of the complete insanity we go through on the regular now!
Yeah... you're getting thrown into the deep end right now, aren't you. Sorry. There's no way to ease into this. You should probably either stop reading these entirely or start reading the letters from the beginning, so this will all at least make some sense. The first letter should start with the words "To whoever reads this," just so you know you get the right one.
Back to you, Lis. Yeah, I feel pretty bad for TSB Jake too. I honestly can't imagine being in his position right now.
Alright. So, you can choose the place. Great! There's way less chance of you being caught that way...
Tragedies just seem to be happening to all us Duskwood detectives, recently, don't they? Rai is chronically overworked and barely has time to sleep, I'm stuck in this hellhole and I've been forgotten by most everyone, you were shot, and poor Matt died and... well.
I never knew him, but I feel really bad for him :(
You could give Max half the truth. Tell him you have a stalker, and he's starting to get physical. Jake has been trying to help you get away from the asshole. It's not even a lie, just... not the full truth. Because. You know. The whole truth is completely fucking insane.
Writing to Jessy just put into perspective how insane everything is, I think. Gimme a sec.
Oh, fuck. My Jessy just texted me. Great timing.
Jeez that whole thing with me leaving myself out was just a joke XD If I knew you and Jake would take it so seriously, I'd never have said anything. I'll steer clear from now on.
Yeah, okay, definitely Goldie. That makes way more sense. I don't think you have to be quite so drastic as destroying the phone. Just get him to leave it at home for the trip.
Ahaha, thanks. I don't think that's necessary, though. Actually, seeing future!Jessy's perspective has caused a bit of a paradigm shift. I think I might need to reconsider what all to tell and not to tell the Crow Crew. I just sort of default to keeping things secret, now, but you've seen how well that worked for me with you and Rai, and with Jake.
Again, you probably should wait for them to contact you first, but you WILL need to talk to them when that happens. What you say to them and what you don't is up to you.
Pack a couple different pens XD We're all a bit long-winded.
That's all from me :)
(The handwriting changes to Jake's.) Hallo, Lis.
Yuvon refuses to tell me what precisely she means about Jessica. Was she somehow contacted by an alternate version of Jessica? If so, how?
I am glad it was Goldie who contacted Max. Yuvon's suggestion for an excuse seems a good one, as there are far less things to remember that way. You simply need to oversimplify everything.
I do not, unfortunately, entirely believe that Yuvon was joking when she made that comment, based on previous comments and her ongoing guilt. I can't understand sometimes why she feels the need to lie so much. It is difficult for me to read people, much less her.
I will speak to her eventually. Early tomorrow, perhaps, if nothing else rears its head. Yuvon looks tired, and I am also admittedly not at my peak. I sincerely hope she does not wake up as early as she does every single day. It may get somewhat taxing, what with the lack of coffee here.
I think that is all from me to you, Lis. If you would kindly find a way to send the next section to my counterpart without looking at it, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you :)
—Jake and Yuvon
Jake,
It is a pleasure to meet you as well, despite the unusual circumstances.
That our pursuers may be freed from the stasis is a logical conclusion. Seeing as the last known location I had on them in my universe was approximately five hundred miles from Duskwood, they will likely be some of the first to free themselves from the stasis. I do not believe I need to warn you that time is of the essence.
It seems as if I am a small distance ahead of you in the development of countermeasures, perhaps because I have had more linear time to develop them. If you are where I think you are at in the development, you likely have or will soon hit a bug you cannot pin down that makes the pinpointing mechanism simply refuse to work at all. Presuming your and my version of NYM-0S are similar enough, the issue should lie in the public bool set in line 132 of the third part of the targeting script, the script that decides what constitutes a target; you have it defaulted to "false" where it should default to "true".
As for additional countermeasures: I was attempting to work on a rudimentary automated system of pattern detection when I was brought here. Essentially, its function would be such that it would be able to triangulate using the locator features already installed to find a rough estimate of where their headquarters might be. However, I have not found any way thus far to eliminate outliers, and as such the feature is currently next to useless. I am no longer able to work on the code, but perhaps you will have more luck than I did.
That is all I can think of for the moment on that subject. However, I have an odd theory on what may be part of the reason we vary so. If you have a moment to spare, please answer me this:
When I was very young, back when Mother was still around, she took me to a doctor for odd behaviors. This included not looking people in the eyes, but there was a list. I was given a diagnosis; if you had the same experience, you should likely know which one.
Did you have this experience? If so, please prove it by stating what the diagnosis was.
Do not worry if you do not know what I am talking about; I would rather you did not guess. Simply state that you don't know. It will confirm my theory.
Good luck with your pursuers.
—Jake

alternative to ao3 under the cut:
Getting to the apartment wasn't as bad as he imagined, despite the dense yet not quite heavy silence. It was strange, but not unbearable. Though he almost wished Nathan was awake, the kid's boundless curiosity would really be appreciated right now. That and he was almost a "mediator" between Sully and Samuel.
That silence sure left enough time for him to begin to realize the implications of what he just did. He was aware from the beginning that the way he went about this would make him actually responsible for the boys for at least a few days. Didn't mean that he was ready for it. What did he know about taking care of children, after all?
But it was just a couple of days, probably. It couldn't be that bad. Still, he sighed, rubbing a hand behind his neck. He was really in over his head, huh? Goddammit, Sullivan.
As absorbed he was in his thoughts, he almost missed their stop. Good thing he had enough time to get to know the way almost by heart, he sure had been too distracted back there.
"We're here, kid", he muttered, turning to the backseat. Looked like Samuel had started to doze off as well, but he shot upright as Sully said the first word.
"I can see that", the kid responded, lacking bite for once. Guess he was tired, then.
"Okay, let's get in, get you boys to bed. Or the couch, specifically. We can talk tomorrow".
"Yeah, sure", he started to wriggle from under his brother, trying and failing to wake him up. He was almost resorting to poking Nathan awake when Victor stopped him.
"Leave him be. I'll just carry him up", he paused, reconsidering after remembering Samuel's jumpiness. "If that's ok?"
The kid just waved his hand about dismissively, sliding out the nearest door. "Just don't let him fall on his head or anything and we're good".
~
Maybe insisting on carrying a whole eight-year-old kid up a few flights of stairs wasn't the best idea, but it was too late now. He failed to consider the awkwardness of it all, but everyone was too tired to mind, least of all Nate himself, looking dead to the world as he slept.
Actually opening the door was a bit of a chore with one of his arms full of sleeping kid, even if the kid in question was lighter than expected. He made do in the end, settling Nathan on one end of the small couch, indicating the other one to Samuel, who was more aware now but still looked exhausted.
"Make yourself comfortable, I'll see if I can find a blanket or something for you two".
The kid nodded noncommittally, settling down close to his brother as opposed to where Sully showed him first. He went into "his" bedroom and managed to find a spare blanket tucked in the closet.
Taking it back and handing it to the eldest Morgan, he reassured once again that he'd explain everything in the morning and bid him goodnight. Victor knew he wouldn't be getting any sleep until he explained everything, though.
~
The next morning, he was back out as soon as he heard the first noises coming from the other room. Sounded like only one of the couch's occupants was up and about. And it turned out to be Nathan, which was a relief — he didn't think he could handle Samuel right now, especially after all last night's strangeness. Hopefully, the kid would stay quiet for the time being.
"Morning, kid", he greeted quietly.
"Good morning", he replied in a surprisingly low tone. Guess he didn't want to wake his brother up either. He wasn't sure he could deal with an even grumpier Samuel right now, so that was good.
"You hungry? Want some breakfast?" the kid's eyes lit up.
"Hell yeah!", he chirped and as an afterthought, "Please and thank you".
"Come on, then", he laughed, gesturing at the tiny "open floor kitchen" tucked at the corner of the room. It was actually just a precarious setup with a barely working stove, a mini-fridge, and a microwave. It was ridiculous, really, but it worked well enough.
"Okay kid, don't get too excited. I don't even know what food I still have in here". He rustled through a rickety cabinet getting some instant coffee and a few slices of slightly stale bread. "Hm, check the fridge, will ya?"
Thankfully, the kid's search was bountiful. He found half a gallon of milk — luckily, not expired yet! — and an almost empty carton of eggs.
"I think our only option is egg "sandwiches" unless we just eat plain bread. Whatcha think, kid?"
The boy pretended to think hard, "The sandwiches are okay, I guess".
"Egg sandwiches it is, then". He busied himself with making breakfast while the kid just hung around, exploring the surroundings. Multiple times, he got dangerously close to Samuel, who was still sleeping away on the couch, but it seemed it was never enough to disturb him. He only started to stir when everything was almost ready and the smell of food was present.
At that point, Nate got close to his brother and just startled him awake by yelling an exaggerated "wake up, sleepyhead ". That was what succeeded in the end.
"Welcome to the land of the living", Sully joked. "Are you awake enough to start demanding explanations or can you wait 'till after breakfast?"
He grumbled something intelligible, which Nathan helpfully translated into "he says he wants breakfast first!" So they ate.
~
Breakfast was surprisingly a quick and clean thing, despite the kids dangerously strewn about the couch and carpet (why Samuel insisted on sitting on the floor and eating from the shitty center table, he would never understand). Soon enough, they were all ready to talk. The boys ended up being quicker than him to start, taking over each other the first opportunity they got, which ended up being a jumbled mess he couldn't be bothered to decipher.
"Children", he interrupted. "One of a time or we'll be stuck here all day just tryin' to understand one another".
"Ok", both he and Nate looked at Samuel sideways at that. If the kid told him was to be believed, his brother's "ok's" never really meant that.
"We wanted to ask–"
"What we want to know, Victor, is why did you even bother to get up all the way back here? You were only supposed to get us out and away as soon as that whole thing ended, nothing more".
"That's right", he replied.
"So. Why are we here?"
"There's been a bit of a… change of plans, kid".
Both of them looked wary after hearing that, though one was obviously tenser than the other. "What exactly is that change?"
"Nothing too bad, I promise. It's just that, after that stunt we pulled — especially the part where you two got caught — made it a bad decision for you to stick around here. Because of that, you'll need to stick with me a little longer."
"That's ok, right..?", Nate trailed off as soon as he saw his brother seething at Sully.
"Hell no! Unless you can tell exactly why is that, we ain't going anywhere with you, old man". This was getting old by now.
"I can't just drop you anywhere, you'd just get found out and sent back there ", he explained. "You might want to leave the city, maybe the state entirely and I'm one of the few people that will help with that no questions asked. That’s also the only way to get your cut from the job–"
"What? Why?"
This time, it was Nate who interrupted, his brother too busy struggling with all that teenage angst bullshit he was harboring since day-fucking-one, but that was starting to really make itself known.
"The client is a few states away, guess he got tired of waiting around and bailed. He'll only pay up when the artifact is actually delivered to him, so we need to get to him, anyway".
"And the only way of doing that is also coming with you, yeah?", Samuel sounded muffled, face mushed against the table.
"It's not like you got a whole lotta options, kid. Most people aren't likely to help kids your age around a city, imagine getting you out of the state entirely. Without money, well. It's even worse odds". He wasn't even exaggerating on that one.
"C'mon Sam, it's not that bad! "
"Oh, it really is. Do we really wanna depend on him for all of that? The dude that lied to us from the moment we met him?"
"Thanks for the vote of confidence", Sully muttered, mostly unheard.
"It's like he said, most people won't want to help us! We should stick with someone who does, Sam!"
"Hellooo, do you even hear yourself, little brother?"
"Yes, and sound completely fair!"
Victor was getting tired of all this bickering. If they don't want help, they better decide that fast. He needed to go soon, too. They weren't the only ones that got seen committing the crime, after all. The only difference was they got caught.
"Okay, listen up. You work out what you want by yourselves, I'm going back to my room", he announced. "I'm going to leave in a couple hours, with or without you. If you two wanna come with, you better be here and ready."
~
Back in his room, he could still hear their discussion, but it did get progressively lower. Then, a thump and a pair of clangs as they opened the window and got into the fire escape. He assumed they just went into the roof for privacy, but he didn't dare hope. For all he knew, they were just ditching him. Not that it was a problem, it surely would be easier on him, though the thought of them just up and leaving made him somewhat sad? Disgruntled?
Well, better stop moping around and getting shit done. Packing wasn't going to do itself and he needed to be ready to leave by the time he had told the kids before or he'd just sound like an idiot to them.
He really should stop worrying so much about what they thought, anyway. Again, they weren't his kids, their 'relationship' was little more than means to an end, to both parties. Whether they thought of him as something good or just some crazy old man, that was up to them and didn't really matter in the end. They'd be going their separate ways after all that.
It shouldn't matter, it really didn't. The thought made him uncomfortable anyway. Ah, goddammit, I don't have time for this. The sooner he gets everything done, the better. Then he could leave all of it behind and just never think of it, of them again. Simple.
~
The fifteen minutes before the marked time were pretty stressful. Surely not the most stressful in Sully's life, but still: stressful. He was sure the Morgans weren't coming back, which, good for them? But he was also genuinely worried about them.
Just a few minutes before the time, he heard the twin clangs again. Huh, they actually came back. As always, Samuel led the whole "speaking their mind" business.
"Victor."
"Samuel."
"We decided to accept your offer, on the condition that you let us go as soon as we get to wherever the client is and take the money. Also, we can bail whenever we want, for whatever we want, no questions asked.
"And, we still expect to receive your cut if that happens", Nate added. "Deal?"
Good lord, they were demanding.
"Sure, deal. You both ready to go?"
Both just vaguely gestured to their drawstring bags. Okay, so now he was sure those were all of their belongings. Not a lot he could do about that if the boys got it their way. Oh well, that was a problem for future him.
"Great. Let's get on with it, then. Welcome to the show, boys".
