Hello fellow Scum Villain and Epic: The Musical enjoyers! The first chapter for my mash up is finally done and can be found here: Ruthlessness is Mercy @ineffectualdemon you're getting tagged, but no preassure to read, if you don't want, just thought I'd let you know, considering your hand in the existence of this thing. Here's a little excerpt for the first chapter titled "We'll Be Fine"

It took about a week until someone noticed Qiong Ding Peak's newest occupant.

The mousy looking man with the slightly dishevelled hair pooling from his guan, stared down dumbfounded at where Shen Yuan was doing some reading. He liked the reading exercises a lot more than the writing ones, because even if he didn't quite know what one of the characters meant— no such thing as simplified Chinese here— he could usually go by context to decipher the text.

Shen Yuan stared back at the trespasser with the best scathing look he could muster. He had a solid guess just who this man was, going by his clothes and the scrolls tucked underneath his arm, and he had not a single charitable thing to say about him.

“Greetings, Shang-shidi. How can this shixiong help you?” Yue Qingyuan asked, affording Shang Qinghua far too much kindness for the bastard rat traitor that he was. Not that poor Yue Qingyuan knew that.

Shang Qinghua, once spoken to, finally managed to pick his jaw up from the ground and look at his sect leader. He laughed dumbly. “Well, I did have a question about the changed request forms your residence sent to An Ding Peak, but I guess I found the explanation already. Might this shidi ask, just where this child came from?”

Another nervous glance in Shen Yuan's direction, who could not, upon verifying that Yue Qingyuan's attention was squarely on the other peak lord, resist sticking out his tongue at Shang Qinghua. He was a child, childish behaviour was perfectly in character. Shang Qinghua definitely noticed, and then proceeded to look constipated about it, Shen Yuan noted with glee.

“This is Shen Yuan. He will be staying here until it is time for him to begin cultivating and choose a master.” Shang Qinghua was obviously waiting for some more explanation, like the actual answer to the question he had asked. Shen Yuan could even see a drop of sweat beginning to bead on the man's forehead.

Yue Qingyuan did not give him the satisfaction and only continued to smile at him benevolently. Maybe Yue Qingyuan was a better judge of character than Shen Yuan had given him credit for.

“I see,” Shang Qinghua hedged after several uncomfortable minutes of silence. “Well, that was all. I'll be taking my leave then, Zhangmen-shixiong, A-Yuan.” Shen Yuan stuck out his tongue again at Shang Qinghua's retreating back, before quickly concentrating back on his reading, as Yue Qingyuan turned back to him to observe his progress and occasionally ask if Shen Yuan understood this or that character.

I'm what you would call the number one scum villain breyer poster on this site (because I'm the only one) 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ they're not with me because I'm only staying in my current apartment temporarily but I actually got breyers and little cowboy boots for my bingqiu nendoroids to turn them into horse girls. Fun fact the classic scale figs are roughly proportional to nendoroids (1:12) so the dolls fit on the horses back perfectly

Ning Yingying is the easy answer but also the most boring I'll admit. But I do think she's a horse girlie at heart. I want to see Shen Jiu taking her to breyerfest and beefing with a ton of middle aged white women

I agree that mbj would be a great option as well though I don't think he would be *that* secretive about it since he really dgaf. Maybe while his uncle is still alive because he wouldn't be above breaking mbj's precious breyerfest live auction OOAK models but I don't think he would be embarrassed about his ponies. Because horses are objectively super cool and every lord needs them. Also I think he'd mostly collect unicorns and breyer winter decorators. I'm not sure if he'd be into the holiday horses though, probably depends on the year. I could see him fw celestine and snowbird and whatnot but probably not apres ski. These filigree decorators would definitely be in his collection with highly coveted winter gambler's choice models like the collectors club colored xaviers

Admittedly don't know a ton about clinkies (very shameful I know) but yeah mbj would be my top pick for those too. He'd probably have a bunch of Lladro sculptures now that I think about it. Unrelated to horses though I think the number one porcelain collector in cang qiong would probably be Yue Qingyuan, who is a Precious Moments Fiend

Hi, sorry, I just went through the entire sv rip-off tag because I'm all for isekai! Macaque, and all, but I do also want to share my thought on this.

1.) I feel like the relationship between General Ma (or was it Marshal) and Macaque would be strained. Because she cares for Wukong and likely detested all the bullying that Macaque did. So, maybe later in the story, she would snap at Macaque, all rage and disgust at the fact that he might be deceiving Wukong, only to be shocked at Macaque actually listening to her and apologizing. It's an interesting little story moment that can really help fix their relationship.

2.) While I like the fact that Macaque has a good relationship with everyone, I just want a scenario where some demon fucked up real badly and Macaque goes all villain like in his rage. He doesn't go ballistic like Wukong. He goes all sinister and threatening, which really shows the extent of his acting skills and how he is getting comfortable in his role as the "scum villain." Bonus points if the reason he got angry involved Wukong somehow. This can be set after Macaque's journey to figure out how to get more powers, so it just puts into perspective for the people who witnessed this show of power how strong Macaque grew to be. I can see General Liu being all proud, General Ba being surprised and stuttering questions while General Beng just raises his eyebrows. General Ma is conflicted, and Wukong just falls in love with him for the 4th time, again. Macaque's harem are swooned by that sheer power display, and the Brotherhood will all be up in Mac's face, being like, "When did you learn how to do that?". The aftermath would be very funny for our dear isekai'd boy.

3.) It would be funny that while Macaque is oblivious to Wukong's advances, he is entirely aware of Mei and Red Son's towards MK. For example, we know MK knows about Wukong being in live with Macaque, so why not have Macaque give some advice to Red Son on how to win the little monkey demon's heart?

4.) With all the love potions and sex pollens going around, I kinda wanna see Macaque pull a move where he 'saves' Wukong from drinking some tea and getting drugged because he recognized that scent from his time on his journey and obviously seeing and learning a lot of stuff, so he immediately goes on and try to control the situation by having everyone leave the room so it doesn't affect anyone further. What he doesn't know is that the tea was originally meant for HIM and just got mixed up in the kitchen, and when Wukong and Macaque's harem realizes that, they go hunting.

Anyway, that's all I got for now. This AU has been going around my head like a record, and I can't wait to see which direction it takes.

1. Well I'll be real with u General Ma is dead first of all. I technically mentioned that in chapter 3 but that's alr if u missed or forgot that part since it is just a tiny detail so yeahh

2. That would be interesting! I'd like to imagine this demon knows Macaque's reputation as being the detested scum villain who bullies their king because of jealousy so when they try to mess with Macaque, they just get their ass totally whooped by not only Macaque but everyone around him cuz let's be real everyone's way too protective of Macaque

3. Oh absolutely! And it's the same for MK's perspective, he sees Wukong being all lovey dovey to Macaque but is totally oblivious to Mei and Red Son's advances just cuz I think it's funny but to also develop Macaque and MK's relationship for the better

4. Yeahh there's bound to be a wife plot for Macaque whether it's a truth potion or a sex pollen, he'd definitely save Wukong and in turn Wukong goes crazy with having to not only control his murderous rage at whoever could poison his beloved but also having to deal with a fevered and dazed Macaque which I think is a fun scenario

I don't think my account is large enough or active enough (especially lately) to necessitate posting this but I also didn't want to just.. not say anything? so.

the tldr of it is that fandom is just not fun for me anymore. it feels like everything is discourse and arguing in circles and pointless, endless debates over fanon. while catering your own social media experience is certainly a needed skill (and one I have a lot of practice in already, thanks) there's also a point where some things just become so prevalent in certain spaces that they're impossible to avoid.

maybe it's bc of the amount of more recently acquired fans or just bc times have changed, but it didn't always feel like this. even just a few years ago with scum villain it felt more like a community, like we all shared love for a common thing and were coming together to yap about it. but maybe that's just nostalgic delusions lol, I don't know. either way, as things are right now it seems like every time I go through a tag to see what's trending it's just... not fun, at best, and at worst actively makes me more exasperated/upset than a text post on tumblr dot com has any right to.

I still adore scum villain (& my other fandoms too) more than anything and I'm not dropping off the face of the earth entirely. this isn't even a sv/fandom blog, for all that I seem to talk about nothing else. but I don't think I'll be talking about it as much on here, and whether that's a temporary or permanent break, I don't know.

anyway, if you actually read this, please don't be an asshole. lighten up a bit, go outside, drink some water, and make sure the things you're doing both online and off are actually making you happy 🫶

Hmm, I don't think so, but these things do creep up on me! I wasn't expecting to get nearly so much into Scum Villain last year as I ended up doing. At some point I do want to catch up on TGCF (is the last volume out in English? Can't remember) so maybe I'll end up falling into that and completing the trifecta, who knows.

None of the above. I'm not skilled in any other form of media and I feel too exhausted at the thought of trying to pick up a new skill and master to the point where I'd be willing to share them.

The only one I might feel like I could actually pick up would be bookbinding, but that almost certainly won't happen until we move somewhere with more space.

WIP Wednesday again!

Alright, I'm going to make myself do this again! Because I managed to finish a WIP last time because of it... Ask for any fic below to make me work on it some more :>

The main thing I'm working on is a Scum Villain "fix-it" retelling with an older Shen Yuan that's really been fun to write. It's over 11k words and maybe eventually I'll get all the individual pieces I've scribbled down to flow together right. This is the one I'm sharing today.

Though night had long since fallen, getting to sleep was a difficult prospect. The air was too still, the insects too loud, the bed too hard, and Shen Yuan’s thoughts too persistent. He’d given up on sleeping after two hours of staring at the insides of his eyelids, wondering if he’d wake again if he actually drifted off. He’d spent the following two hours digging through the house to locate and identify as much as he could. 

He’d tuned the guqin and played a little, finding that his fingers moved with more practiced ease the less he concentrated on trying to play and just let himself play. That took up part of another hour and left him feeling more relaxed than he would have expected. He found neat stacks of talismans that he bullied the System into helping him figure out and, when it wanted to charge points in exchange, started looking through Shen Qingqiu’s books for the answers instead.

Too many of them were focused on poetry and calligraphy for his personal tastes, but there was a shelf tucked away in the spare room that had texts related to cultivation. Some were obviously older - well-worn beginner’s texts that he eagerly dug into - some dealt with sword forms and more advanced techniques, and of course there were some that focused on talismans. Hah! Take that System! The remaining hours of night slowly faded into dawn before he knew it.

He was pulled out of the meditation he’d decided to try by the sound of voices, a flash of the System window and a hand at his wrist. On reflex, he tugged free of the hand, frowning at the glowing display as he blinked his vision clear.

SVSSS - Vol. 1 - Chapter 1 - Scum

Part 1

So I reached the first break line and wow, this MC is really something.

After reading up to the bit Shen Yuan where first faints after his transmigration, and I gotta say......his poker face? Legendary. His nigh instant adaptiveness? Amazing. His ability to subtly, quickly and easily settle his mind? Absolutely envious. Stellar acting skills and memory too.

Really makes me curious about his background. How he spent his life on Earth. I mean, I know he's the youngest son and second youngest child of a wealthy family, but surely it takes more than that.

I'll admit I prefer the donghua opening to this one. The bitchiness just makes it. But this one is good too. I have to agree with Shen Yuan (SY) on the harem aspect, I wonder what happened to all those women. Makes you curious about the other plot holes and red herrings he mentioned.

As for the upset over cultivators still eating and sleeping, I'm going to put it down to hedonism and the preservation of ones humanity and sanity. I mean, can you imagine a life without dreams or chocolate‽ Is it possible? Yes. Do I really need them? No. Am I going to stop anytime soon? Not a chance in hell.

It's interesting how they made Luo Binghe (LBH) a little bit crooked even before he meets the main villain, the first Shen Qinqqiu (OG!SQQ). It means the man doesn't have full blame for what became of the child. A lot of it, maybe even most of it, but not all of it. Now Shen Yuan as Shen Qingqiu (SY!SQQ) gets to deal with the ramifications of that.

I love how SY has a game plan for a potential transmigration. Now there's a fan for you. 😁 Interesting how it says SY suffered a high fever that made him sleep a while. I could swear I heard it was a qi deviation.

That System siren sounds awful. 100 police car sirens and a herd of divine beasts. Ouch. 😬 Poor man. Good luck with the OOC function. Guess that memory of his will be put to good use.

And Yue Qingyuan (YQY) seems to be a bit of an abuse enabler. A sweetie to SQQ, but a leader who's both knowingly and willingly allowing a child of his sect to be abused by a member of authority. I don't know if I like him yet. We'll see.

Part 2

I love SY just internally squeeing at LBH despite how terrified the poor man is. Fanboy much? Such fancy compliments, if only Binghe could hear them.

The comparison of OG!SQQ to a courtyard-complex concubine is interesting. I wonder if he feels trapped. He's certainly bitter. And fearful for his position since the medicine excuse worked. How curious. It'll be fun to see where the story takes that character.

SY's thought process is funny. So dramatic. 😂 And at the same time as admiring LBH he's quietly analysing the situation and characters. Not to mention digging up the System's loopholes. He's quite the multitasker. Sharp minded.

Both LBH and Ming Fan are just there in the background going 'wtf is going on here, what happened to shizun'. If only they knew.

Part 3

"Shen Qingqiu was an easygoing person" No honey, you're a 'fuck it, so be it' person. Seriously though, adopting that name as his own already. So adaptable. I know I said it earlier, but this part really does show how well he assesses and breaks down a situation before setting up a clear game plan. He's definitely intelligent.

It'll be fun when he unfreezes the OOC function. Especially since others are already noticing his odd behaviour as it is. Not only was there Binghe and Ming Fan earlier, now his other disciples are looking at him with "wavering faces".

I know he said it was for self-defence, and he listed some very good reasons, but there is no way him wanting to try out is sword nigh immediately after an extensive cramming session wasn't him being a big child getting excited over a cool fantasy weapon. Boys and their toys, really. He went for the sharp leaves pretty quickly too. The leaves show his genuine love for worldbuilding too. Guy saw the MC woo ladies with a cool spell and went 'cool, what else can it do?'. Scared the shit out of himself with both too. 🤣

Ngl, it's hilarious watching him compare LBH to the side characters. Looks at Binghe, 'wow, what a mind, what a heart, such enlightenment, so bright I can barely look at him', looks at Ning Yingying (NYY), 'so young, so silly, little EQ, little IQ, so sweet but so slow', looks at Ming Fan and crew, 'very dumb, dumb and dumber, too pampered, headed for ruin, rip children'. Then there's his view of OG!SQQ. A creepy, old, lecherous hypocrite worthy of castration. A terrible authority who likes beating up young boys and trying to assault Ning Ying Ying. Best of luck Shen Yuan. That's you now.

His take on NYYs behaviour with LBH is curious. I wonder how much of it comes from his little sister, from PIDW or from webnovel tropes in general. I'm guessing it's mainly his sister from how he went into how little girls want a something of their crush's to feel special. There's also LBH's short responses towards her.

And PIDW, wow. I'm kinda curious how the author kept the story going for 200+ years. There's an achievement right there. Not to mention binging that brick in just 20 days. That's what? 10 years worth of story per day? And he still remembers these details? Even if they're a little suppressed at first that's impressive. I wonder what happened in those 200 years for SY to be so focussed on the fake jade pendant, sad origin story aside. LBH must have found it eventually for the frame of reference to exist.

It's kinda fun seeing him speak all fanficy, lingo wise. It's not something you usually see in a novel. He definitely reads fanfics. If he's not read any PIDW fics yet it's only because he died before he could get to it. You can't convince me otherwise. Don't even bother.

I am noticing the distance he's putting between himself and the story. Like when he watched the fight scene from the novels and treated it like peeking into the filming of a screenplay. He still seems fairly focussed on LBH though. And his expected behaviour being to abuse children. Compartmentalisation? If so that's interesting. That's a habit more common in those with anxiety, trauma and the like. So unless the transmigration is the trauma, that says something.

LBH has started noticing him back. First the medicine, now he's caught onto the bloody leaves.

Part 4

Poor Shen Yuan. He's got his first beginner mission. No more laying about for him. At least he'll be able to shrug off the OOC restriction soon.

It is nice that SY has been able to relax and recuperate thanks to the Sect Leader's (in my opinion, overbearing) doting, and that SY is taking comfort in all the brotherly love. Unfortunate that he still can't see YQY as a person rather than a character. The man straight up got called a mission giving NPC. So the emotional distancing is definitely still there. Wonder how long that'll hold. It's fair enough though, it would be a difficult transition.

Ming Fan is surprisingly capable too, if he has some level of control of all the Peak's runnings. Guess he wasn't just given a good rank because OG!SQQ liked his bullying tactics. Pity he's a dumbass when LBH's around, or worse, when Ning Yingying's around. Guess he's at his 'dumb for girl' teen stage. Well, everyone gets a free dumb teen pass. Not for bullying, but considering the authority in charge isn't just ignoring or encouraging the behaviour, but straight up instigating, he at least gets a little leeway.

The random practicality that comes with the living part of living in a fantasy world is funny. Poor SY doesn't get to play with the flying part of his sword just yet. The System snarking back at Shen Yuan using Harry Potter and flying brooms as an example just makes that scene. And him asking if the System was involved with that story too. I love it.

I'll have to go look for some HP/SVSSS crossover fanfics later.

The worldbuilding that comes with that practicality is right up my alley. Love worldbuilding. Love adding feigned realism to utterly unrealistic fantastical stories. Love seeing the organisational systems of our main groups. Love seeing the interactions and impact of story elements on the world.

This part gives us why people don't fly anywhere, how and when the disciples of Cang Qiong Mountain Sect get their swords. Which showed us the practicality of passing down swords vs each member getting a fancy new one. That must save so much money. And a more developed if crude, Harry Potter-esque explanation on how and why the sword choosing works. Did anyone else read that 'the sword chooses the disciple' bit in Ollivander's voice?

We also got the idea of how the Sect travels with carriages and horses, their influence in the world, and their wealth. We're peeking into the wider world now too. If they're the top, who's under them? The trip to the city will show us more of the common world. And the new demon, the Skinner, that even Shen Yuan doesn't know anything of, will give us a good glimpse of what the cultivators are up against and what they consider training-wheels level.

This brings up five points, a look into OG!SQQ, behaviour on Qing Jing Peak involving LBH, the Skinner demon, Shen Yuan himself and the System as part of the world. I'll start with OG!SQQ.

This trip showed us what was normal for that man, or in Shen Yuan's words, the 'original flavour'. Several tea-sets, a jade chess set that goes everywhere despite it's rare use, any and all manner of comforts that shocks even a self-admitted wealthy second gen kid. Could just be me, but this guy reeks of a bourgeoisie. Not just the technical definition but the cultural one. The sort that gets rich after a poor or mundane life and overcompensates so hard they make a complete ass of themselves to everyone in what they think is a normal or acceptable display of newfound wealth and power.

Then there's the Skinner demon. We've not seen much of this one yet so I don't know much, but it is freaky. And also curious. 9 deaths thus far via a brutal method where the skin is removed from a body so cleanly it would make a surgeon jealous. Which is what got me curious. Do you think a Skinner demon could focus that skill on smaller selected parts for surgery? Like skin grafting or removing it out of the way for organ surgery. Especially if it can put it back just as cleanly. What a gruesome case for our sheltered MC to start with.

Next there's what counts as usual and acceptable behaviour on Qing Jing Peak under OG!SQQ's command. The disciples treat extreme abuse of Binghe as an expected everyday behaviour. No wonder PIDWs LBH was so vicious. When Shen Yuan found a natural way to put an end to it the ringleaders nonsense, he thought it was an encouragement of their behaviour. Which he then added onto later, moving from taunting to abuse, kicking up dirt into him and terrorising him. We also saw Ning Yingying felt perfectly safe and confident to call SQQ out on his bullshit to his face. LBH also showed us the effects of it, like his blanking face when waiting for more abuse from SQQ. The trauma is strong with this one. Followed by everyone's shock when LBH got a free pass onto the carriage.

Which leads us to Shen Yuan. He is sneaky smart. He was probably sassing the System because he's a ball of sass, but he was paying very close attention to how it worked, what he could and couldn't get away with. He did so well he even had well enough idea of it's weak points to flat out defeat it in an argument and get his way. It sulked later, that -5 points was pure pettiness on its part, but what a job well done. As sassy and critical as he is (poor NYY, may you never hear his thoughts), he's also such a fanboy! If only LBH could hear him, compliments everywhere and any excuse to see or help him.

My guy, you are not just scared of him.

Nor is Binghe for that matter. Such pretty and effusive descriptions of his good-looking Shizun. And the little heart prickle at Shizun's laughter and smile. Awwwww, so cute. You don't know what that feeling is yet but you will.

Lastly, there's the System and its place in the world. Thanks to SYs efforts we're getting an idea of its priorities and how it interacts with the world. He's even managed to get more information out of it. So now we know that the world isn't just the polished (published) version of PIDW, but also the notes, stories and whatnot that didn't make the cut. Having to experience all of it sounds ominous. The System also gave him mission information via files. At first I thought they were computer files but SY said they were all over his desk. Were they scrolls? Manilla files? I'm picturing manilla files. It'd be funny if so.

It's a very scary, knowledgeable and controlling existence with surprising humanity in its communication style. I swear it felt more rote-like earlier. Is it adapting to SY!SQQ?

In Conclusion

So in short, I am loving the worldbuilding, the characters and I find the System fascinating.

I think the MC, Shen Yuan, is intelligent, sassy and very adaptable, though is hiding being one hell of a mental block. Luo Binghe is in various stages of shock and is only in for more, The other disciples are also floundering at signs of what will be the new normal. Ning Yingying is very confident and bold, even in the face of her supposed abuser, though the story says that's naivety.

The System is spooky scary but also fun and interesting. It's also petty but that may or may not be part of what I suspect is it adapting to its user, Shen Yuan, partially through mirroring.

I'm also looking forward to how much this deviates from Shen Yuan's PIDW since the System said he would also see the unpolished, unpublished bits. I mean, I know Binghe becomes a hardcore monogamist for Shen Yuan, but outside of that.

SUMMARY (rough wip): Ainz finds himself wondering why he's doing things the hard way and decides to lean on a trusted subordinate for help. Thanks to this, Demiurge suddenly gets to see his god in a whole new light; he didn't think he was even capable of falling in love, but WHOOPS, there he goes!

CONTENT NOTES: Starts out as unrequited lust, to unrequited love, to fully requited. Probably counts as slow burn? Gonna get kinky, but I haven't decided HOW kinky. BDSM will be a thing. Power dynamics will be at play, too, but we're keeping this particular fic consensual and ETHICAL. This is a ROMANCE.

STATUS: Still a long ways to go… A lot of scenes and basic structure are outlined, and the first 2k words or so are totally done. But I don't yet know if this is going to turn into a 40k fic or a 100k monster…

THE END OF CHAPTER ONE AHH AHHH!!! Ignore anything negative I'm about to say about the game because it all gets canceled out by this. I knew about it going in of course bc I watched Jerma play the game, but ooogh this is the surreal shit I live for. I love how you can interact with a lot of things before this (I always spray water at the elders after their speeches it's just too funny) but you can't do that with the shadows at all, not even the Trebhum one. Oughhhhhh it's sad ouh. The environment inside the Cylinder is so so so good. When the narrator started weakening then didn't pop back up immediately after leaving I panicked for a second thinking WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO COME BACK TO HELP ME. AAH. Then he came back and I realized it was just the end of chapter one and I wasn't too far in lol. Everything around the cylinder is so mysterious and cool, when the Mathematician just walked away after the sequence my first thought wasn't "Wow what a dumb villain just kill them lol" but "Oh wow really? How does this thing's behavior work? I need to learn more"

Going in I thought "Okay Jerma had a hard time with this one to the point of losing some fun, but he's a streamer, games are just inherently harder when you're balancing a lot of things at once, so I'LL have an easy time in comparison 😁" NOPE. This game can be hard as hell, and while I kept the difficulty adjustments off since I imagine it's part of the point for a game about survival against huge odds (except for occasionally turning off creatures targeting the CPUs) I might start using some of those toggles since it's starting to impede the fun. I promised myself I wouldn't save-scum going in and I have NOT held myself to that

With what I can gather of the themes so far, I don't know how I feel abt the fact that I kinda hate the enemy creatures. Like I'm probably supposed to feel bad for them for being caught up in this apocalypse too, and maybe you're supposed to do that despite them being easy to hate? Sometimes I wish there were more neutral creatures like the snail guys or the tundra guys with the hot coal things, or that the creatures had more to show they have their own personalities and lives too: Seeing them sleeping, eating things that aren't just you and your pack, etc. I DO think the giant pink dog things that you basically get into growling matches with using the horn are a good balance for this kind of thing. I like them. Friends.

I've literally had dreams about finding the mineral processor mutation. Every time I come across anything that could vaguely be considered a statue I spend half a minute slorping trying to find that mushroom. Pleak. I want to get more friends I want upgrades pleak.

It's probably because my computer has a tough time running the game but sometimes dialogue to help me doesn't always fully load. Like it was only on my second attempt for some sequences that dialogue like "Maybe they could use the creature's weight on the bridge" or "they have to stay close to the cylinder to survive" actually played, and I wouldn't be surprised if there's supposed to be more help pages than have actually showed up for me (there had to have been a help tip for using the minerals right. Right ????). On my first try I thought the eye of the storm I was supposed to go to was the floating purpose guys because. Idk. Purple lightning. That guy is also purple. Yugh

Maybe also for a game where it feels like you're supposed to use trial and error to figure things out that there should be less things that insta-kill you. Upsetting when the purple floating guy ate me man I was just Splorin'. Last I left off was the bit with the unifier parasites where I tried to ground pound one of the walking sphere guys after other things didn't work. Them instantly eating you is usually pretty avoidable otherwise but it just felt unfair in that case and it lead to one of many times where I just game over'd on purpose. Maybe also having the Trebhum just be injured over time more instead would have tension and make you attached to them more? Like a Trebhum getting suddenly killed is sad but also frustrating. Having one following you who's at super low HP and knowing they're probably going down soon is just sad. Yk? I mean I'm not a game designer and there's probably problems there too idk. I'm just yapping.

POSITIVE AGAIN: Trebhum awesome Trebhum my friends. Watching the jerma stream highlights without paying 100% attention I kinda thought of them as kinda smart animals comparable to a wolf pack or the like, but no! These guys have (had?) a whole society and culture with temples and legends and folk heroes! They're also little frog anteater freaks who make funny noises and the ones you play as don't really know much about their own people and they play high fives with each other! It's so good! Having something with a cool society and still having it act and work very different from humanity is something I like to see in alien fiction

I am going to kiss the narrator. Didn't know it would make it obvious this early that he's a diagetic character within the actual story aheheheheheeee

I really like any of the guys to do with the cylinder. "Car with big strong arms" should be the silliest thing ever why is it so scary

The little glimpses of environmental design I see are really really cool but you don't get much time to admire it when the fear of "what if there's a big freak sneaking up on me right now" is always present, and the few times it isn't are usually when you're indoors.

OVERALL: Might end up being a "turn down the difficulty so I can just groove with the story" game but I'm still engaged enough to be willing to do that yk

i'll be honest i have literally no idea. she's still figuring herself out. i think she's taking some classes and working part time, trying to see what she wants to do. i also can't imagine her working full time she doesn't deserve that.

where has your character been pulled from in their fandom

i think i'm going with post-canon or at least like close? if i'm feeling really obnoxious maybe really really right after maigu ridge so she doesn't know that shen qingqiu survived and doesn't know about things being good post-canon but i am a little undecided. at the end of the day she is far enough along in the story to have seen binghe's red flags and promptly gotten over that crush. that's her weird little brother.

i think she had a mostly decent relationship with the original shen qingqiu despite the rumors. i do think he was projecting onto her a little and she's got learned helplessness as a result that she's still working through

some sort of tour guide to help her get used to the city and also teach her modern things

also a study buddy cause she's definitely behind in terms of modern education

let her be the good vibes of a sunshine/grumpy or mean duo. just as long as they aren't like, an absolutely terrible person yingying will be supportive

another thing that really excites me about octavian: these fucking bears. every, literally every his action since the end of the son of Neptune is accompanied by bears. everything he does is reflected on the bears (squeezes them out of anger, hugs, strangles, and so on).

oh, by the way, a little disclaimer: I sort out the characters mostly from the point of view of psychology and not literature (and this is btw the best way to parse Octavian than parsing him as a literary hero because riordan did not try to prescribe him specifically) so I warn you in advance that there will be no "octavian walks with bears because of his autism" because I strongly doubt that Rick meant it

so I have two theories about why there are so many of these bears I hate because there are too, too many of them (and both are sad enough)

the first: what do you know about villains and milk?

I'll say right away: I love movies, so I can't help but know about this escalating trope when a villain drinks milk (it subconsciously scares us because milk is associated with something good and warm, and when a villain drinks it, it causes cognitive dissonance and makes us uncomfortable). milk is associated with one of the earliest stages of human development and soft toys appear at a later age, but I think this may have a similar effect.

perhaps Rick wanted to achieve the same effect by prescribing Octavian, who is constantly somehow torturing these toys like "oh no, how dare he cut these toys oh gods, even poor fucking Percy's panda, look at this heartless scum." personally, it seems idiotic to me, but... the fandom is really being conducted on this, many people hate Octavian literally because of this damn panda, we live in a world with a stroke

moreover, the moment when Octavian says to Percy, "what, I don't sacrifice animals, only toys, we have moved away from this tradition" is insanely sweet and endearing for me personally? like look at my boy, he can't even imagine that you can kill animals and— oh gods, I'm such a snot for this moment. and by the way, now I'm going to run a little bit about why this moment causes emotion in me and aggression in the fandom. It's simple: I hate Percy (and that's a really useful quality!) because this way I can look at what is happening, taking into account his point of view, and therefore see not Octavian who cut his pillow, but Octavian who refuses to kill animals

and the second theory: even worse than the first

when these bears pissed me off so much that I decided to figure out why there were so many of them at all, I was pierced by the realization that maybe Riordan was trying to transfer Octavian's personality to toys. a toy is not a person. and subconsciously readers begin to think that in this case you can do anything with it

look at the amount of violence and cruelty towards Octavian in the canon, look at the amount of aggression and hatred towards Octavian in the fandom, and you will understand what I mean

I dont know what else to add about this because both of these theories devastate and kill me

I JUST SAW UR POSTS ABT CQL AND OH MY GOD YEAH ITS. THE WORST my sibling and I just finished it a couple days ago but after they'd finished reading the novel we were mostly making fun of the show as we watched LOL-- one thing I will say is that I like most of their casting choices bcus yibo gets all the little wangji microexpressions dead-on

It's like !! Idk I know it's a lot of people's first introductions to the series, and I do think it's good on its own, but I hate when people analyze it like an improved extension on mdzs. It's not! More than anything it's like. Mdzs-inspired content honestly. Idk maybe discourse has made me too bitter, but I've seen far too many takes that cql makes mdzs better in some way by adding "ace representation" (I'm referring NOT to ace people who see themselves in cql wx! You guys are great and I'm happy for you!! but to the people who say stuff like so glad they got rid of the icky gay sex and PDA, if your ideal ace representation is quite literally government-censored gay content, please reevaluate) or feminism or something. It's like, idk, if you see it that way then good for you, but I can't help but be a bit cynical that a monopolistic company rife with government censorship would have more authentic intentions than a vulnerable young fem indie author who probably barely makes profit off of her original work. It's the scum villain main in me I guess.

Though the casting is so good!! I'm always surprised when I remember that yibo wasn't an established actor before, he gets all of lwj's little details so perfect. Xiao Zhan too is also incredible. You can tell the cast had a lot of love for the characters, and I'll never fault them for that!
