#i wish I had someone to talk to#like. I had so many people I confided in and would yap to and just like get really beautiful advice from#in Australia#I’ve never been so connected with People as I was there#I’ve never had so broad a support system#and like multiple STRONG groups of people who would do a lot for me#and could talk me off a ledge and who showed up for me (and vice versa)#like I don’t think I could’ve gotten through a thing that happened there#without like the 3-4 layers of nets I had#and here I just#it’s not that there aren’t people who care about me here#it’s just different#and I don’t know what the difference is#like I wanna talk about this dumb property management situation!!!! with someone who’s not my boyfriend!!!#and I just don’t wanna bother anyone or assume they don’t get it or I’m like we don’t talk enough to come to them with this#and I never had that thought once while there#maybe it’s due to like. being thrown to the thick of it#and knowing everyone knew I had no one else and was starting over#so internally I felt like people were more welcoming to problems I had and it wasn’t weird????#I feel weird even reaching out to any of those people now even though they’ve pretty much all reached out to me#it feels harder making friends not for anything any person here has ever done wrong. just the weird mental roadblocks I’ve got#maybe I subconsciously felt more emboldened to go out on a limb without the safety net of my boyfriend?#like I’ve developed a codependency on him I’m unaware of??#maybe I was happier there so I didn’t have as many mental roadblocks???#I don’t know. I just don’t know#and like I hope I figure it out someday??? cause I was so happy there#and I hate living like this#I hate the lonliness I feel inside no matter how many people tell me they care about me#but I don’t have any earthly idea how to fix it

So if yo missed my post yesterday, haven’t followed me before or don’t remmeber... I wanted to recap my life for you since March 2016. I do so because I literally, and I mean that literally, was, I dont eve know the word... Blessed (life not faith wise) with such amazing results and news after a long hard struggle. So here’s a summary.
Up until March 2016, I was 178lbs of muscle, training to be a boxer, could go many rounds in the ring and take a beating and I trained every day, be it hiking, biking, the gym, walking, you name it.
I had just begun a very long slow taper of Benzodiazepines, whichI was kicking ass at so far at this point. This journey was goign to take me 2 years at that point and is another story.
On March 24th (I believe) of 2016, I had a seemingly minor bicycle accident while riding to my doctors office, then the gym. I tried to hop up onto a curb, but due to heat exhaustion, dehydration and having just ridden 10 miles approx, I was not up to the task. I hit the curb at an angle, faster then I realized, and my front wheel made it, the back did not. Result, broken leg at the ankle.
I had surgery that required 2 plates and 10 screws, and due to the nature of the break, my surgeon who is quite skilled, had to work extra hard to put me back together the best he could.
I then spent months healing on the sofa, lost ALL of that muscle I had worked so hard for, gained weight, but was actually lighter then I had been and my spirit and heart were broken. But I did not let that pull me down. I did everyting I was told by the doctor. Everything. My progress was sped up by my previous amazing physical fitness levels right up to the incident, even though I had waited since due to inactivity.
Once I got permission to start PT, I had to learn to walk again. This was very scary. Not only did I have no idea how far I could go before the damage I caused became a roadblock, but it was painful beyond belief. It also tore my mental status into shreads. BUt, I kept going, as my Dr and PT person told me, no matter how hard.
Months later, and 2 months before I should have been to this point, I was walking again. The Orthopedist and my Dr were both thrilled and complimented me on m progress. Knowing how bad my break was, its location, and how most people deal with this stuff, they gave me encourage ment and a reminder that I could do this.
I kept working hard, furthering my progress. Eventually getting permission to bicycle again. Thanks to my eBike’s help, I used it to do even more rehabilitation and it also sped up my recovery. Plus it made me feel great again, free, happy, and that sense of accomplishment was just making me glow. But deeper inside I was still scared to death, in a good amount of pain, and worried. Doctor then had me do more PT at home, from 1-3x a day to 4-8x a day. And I did, every single day.
Well, this change in frequency improved my ROM (Range of Motion) dramatically, so much so that I could walk down stairs normally again for the first time in over a year. But, it also caused me to hit the first and biggest hurdle yet, one I could never get over... I had reached my newly set bone’s limit during dorsal and plantar movement. That’s forward and backward movement like pushing on the gas in your car (plantar) and bending your ankle back (dorsal).
My bone in my leg was now hitting my Talus bone (this is the bone your leg moves forward and backward on to make your foot move those directions) when I bent it far enough, just short of my good ankle’s natural limit. This wasn’t a muscle stretch problem it was a hard limit, for life. I was devastated and spiraled into a depression, but i kept biking, walking best I could and worked through best I could.
While this was happening, this working out and PT etc, I was in pain, all the time. It started to go from a hospital 3-4 (0-10 scale), to a 5-7, then 6-8, and soon it was 8 daily. It got so bad I passed out multiple times from the pain, got even more depressed not even realizing why, and eventually told my PCP Dr, who told me to tell my Orthopedist. I did, and we decided to try taking out the plate, and while he was in there, he was going to see what the impinging point was and why. We hoped for a magic solution, maybe it was a small piece of bone that had come off or something in the hardware we hoped.
Those screws I mentioned? They were also through the whole bone and poking into my leg muscle inside. I thought maybe that is causing internalized pain as well as pain I could feel? Hoped maybe it might help if they weren’t there. And so the doctor did the surgery, 3 weeks ago, removed the plate and screws and found nothing but what he should.
Mom told me he told her with a disappointed look on his face right after surgery that he found nothing magic, but it was otherwise a success. And we geared up for 2 months+ of healing and rehabilitation.
Within 3 days, I was on my feet, no crutches, no boot.
Within a week, I was walking better then I had since the surgery in 2016.
And the most important parts... removing the plate and screws had STOPPED the agonizing pain. I went from a 6-8 the day of, to a 5 maybe right after, days later, I was 1-2 max.
During this whole time, and this is the 2nd important part, my blood pressure was sky high the whole time. We had no clue why and blamed it on my Benzo taper. But, those screws I mentioned that were inside my leg meat, THEY were the cause of not just the pain but my high blood pressure. I didn’t know this until I was checked at my last Orthopedist appt, and then reconfirmed yesterday when my 190/107 BP went to 120/90.
I know this is a long story, but it’s been part of my life, the pain, the healing, the agony, the mental anguish, all of it, they’ve been here since the first surgery. And now, minus the talus impingement, I felt better then I had in ways I can’t explain. I told the dr at one point that if the surgery to remove the plate didnt work, I wanted him to cut off the foot and part of the leg, it was that bad.
Today, I sit here typing to you, normal blood pressure, almost no pain, light discomfort after a long day of moving the ankle, and a different man.
The moral here, beyond reminding you that I have been through hell and I came back flipping off the devil, is...
Don’t give up.
Don’t stop trying.
Always do what your doctor says.
And always educate yourself. Me learning how the leg and ankle works, examining x-rays, all of that helped me to help the doctors make me better.
I am the same guy I was before, just out of shape and cannot run or jog again for the rest of my life, nor can I hike without poles and good boots. But, I overcame one hell of an obstacle.
So if you struggle with something, don’t take it laying down, learn about your problems, what goes on in your body or life that might cause them, and talk to your doctors, therapists or whomever. And never ever give up.
I’m going to be 50 this December. I have the heart of a 25 year old athelete. I am proof that age has nothing to do with it. It’s all about what you can put into it.

Meditation was something I just couldn’t stick to consistently, and as a result, I couldn’t reap the rewards.
It was frustrating…
Then one day, sick of the constant ups and downs, I set off to explore the possibilities of what the mind and body can do… And over the next
5 years, the journey took on a life of its own…
I Travelled to Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Spain, Brazil and Germany… INHALING every ounce of knowledge about meditation, mindfulness, and the mind-body connection.
I investigated TRADITIONAL ZEN PRACTICES and researched what MODERN SCIENCE knows today about the power of the mind.
This world exposed many truths and many falsehoods about stress, mindfulness, and the untapped potential of our brains and bodies… And let me tell you, it was surprising to see how many others were struggling with practices that just didn’t work for them.

According to a recent Harvard Medical School research paper, “Stress-related health problems are responsible for up to 80% of visits to the doctor and account for the third highest health care expenditures, behind only heart disease and cancer. But as few as 3% of doctors actually talk to patients about how to reduce stress.”
Researchers found that people in who took part in an
active relaxation program used an average of 43% fewer medical services than they did the previous year, saving on average $2,360 per person.
Of course, these are averages. For some people the costs would be lower, for others unfortunately, the costs would be much higher.
But the truth is, it’s not about the money. If we don’t have our health, we simply can’t function at our peak. We can’t fulfil our potential, we can’t show up for our families and other obligations… our hopes and plans go off course.
So, how can we habitually care for our wellbeing?…

When we introduce simplicity, everything changes. We can remove the blockages which create
needless complication
and
limitation.
Maybe it’s anger. Maybe it’s past disappointments which continuously create doubt. Maybe it’s self-criticism which has planted roots in our subconscious mind.
It may be suspicion or wariness about other people, an expectation of failure, or an unshakable feeling of tiredness, frustration, uncertainty, or overwhelm.
The fact is, when you allow yourself to deeply unwind and cultivate mindfulness, complications begin to dissipate… you gain clarity… and you connect with your inner power.

New year’s resolutions and past year ramblings
I’m usually not one for New Year’s resolutions. Let’s be honest, they rarely happen and yeah idk it’s just not something I’ve even bothered thinking about in the last several years. But I really want 2017 to be a positive year so I’m just thinking about some things.
I was pleasantly surprised to realize that for the first time in... ever? losing weight is not one of my goals at all. I actually really did it last year and while I’m still struggling to accept and love my body on so many levels, I’m back to a normal, healthy weight for my height, back to my normal clothing size, I’m in a range that feels right and I’m happy there. There are things I could and probably should improve on strength and flexibility wise, and especially in the context of improving my dance technique which is something I really want to work on this year. But it feels good to have 25 pounds of roadblock to that goal behind me already.
I need to get back into dance class, soon if possible. I really haven’t taken class since college and that was a disturbingly long time ago already. And I am looking forward to being involved in more community theater.
I... resisted getting involved for a long time because I didn’t want to stay living here and I didn’t want to put roots down that would make it hard to leave but since I seem to be stuck here anyways for the time being - I’m glad I did it. I have met so many amazing, talented people, made new friends, actually it really hit me the first night I went to go see our local production of Cats. All of a sudden it was like holy shit... I know half the people on stage, and about half of the audience too (fellow theater people coming out to support each other), all these people are hugging me and asking what I’m up to - I found a family and a community and I’m so much happier for it. I keep thinking back to what my parents said when they saw me in White Christmas, the first show I did, because I didn’t realize how true it was until they said it but -
They said they hadn’t seen me so happy in a long time.
Anyways what else for 2017? Moving out is something I’m thinking it’s time for. I really don’t want to be living at home turning 25. I also want to make time to read again. I used to read so much and I miss it. I want to start working through all the unread books on my shelves, and re read some favorites, hopefully discover some new favorites along the way too. I want to be braver, with social interactions, with my opinions, with auditioning and performing. And I want to take better care of myself. More and more I’m realizing that if I don’t, nobody else will. (With rare exception and they know who they are) I don’t want to think of myself as lazy any spare second I’m not pushing myself to breaking with work, with theater, with supporting the people I care about. Maybe sometimes I can be okay with just taking some time for myself? Take that moment to breathe instead of pushing forward and breaking down later. I took the steps to make my body healthier but now I think I need to do the same with my mental/emotional health too. And yeah, I think that’s all I’ve got for now.

She’s attributed part of that success to her life coach, Martha Beck, and has been a major advocate of it. Oprah’s even gone so far as showcasing various life coaches to her audience over the years and recommending one for everybody.
Recovering From Childhood Stardom. Sometimes it’s not about achieving success that’s the problem. Sometimes it’s dealing with what happens afterwards that is. If you remember Danny Bonaduce from The Partridge Family days, you’ll remember a precocious red-headed kid bound for success. But after struggling with drug abuse, legal issues, and homelessness, it wasn’t until a life coach entered the picture that things got better. He’s now a life coach on air, helping others just like they helped him.
Achieving Super Bowl Champion Status. The Denver Broncos star linebacker, Von Miller, has had issues with the law in the past. And we all know where that will lead if left unchecked. There’s no Superbowl rings in jail. He got a coach to help turn his life around and since those low points, he’s now a Super Bowl champion and, wouldn’t you know it, MVP.
Becoming a Famous Actress. Nia Long has been a successful actress for two decades. She’s come out and said living a happy and fulfilling life is a result of working with her own coach.
Rock Star Status. Famous rock bands are no stranger to family fueds. When you spend that much time together, add in a mix of fame, fortune, and social power, the mix can be downright disastrous. In Metallica’s case, this rang all too true. In fact, there was even a documentary made about it. So they got themselves a life coach named Phil Towle who helped them work through the issues, resulting in their subsequent album reslease. Now that’s what I call success if I’ve ever heard it.
Oscar-Winning Actor. There’s famous, and then there’s really famous. Leonardo DiCaprio is the latter. And he spared no expense with his life coach, going all the way to the top to, you guessed it, Mr. Tony Robbins. Leo keeps tight-lipped about his experiences, but it’s hard to argue with the results. If the struggle found within the plotline of The Revenant is analogous to the struggle of becoming one of the greatest actors ever, then it stands to reason that the DiCaprio-Robbins dynamic duo is going to be one for the history books. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get your own?
Leader of the Free World. You know what’s a hard job? Being a leader. You know what’s even harder? Being responsible for 300 million people. Bill Clinton, the former President of the United States is also a proud customer of Tony Robbin’s coaching. And I’d say it paid off. That job is pretty darn hard to get. In the entire history of the country, he was only the 42nd person to have been promoted into the role.
Tennis Goddess Overcoming Injury. Let’s throw in one more Tony Robbins customer for good measure. In this case, we’re moving from acting to leadership to sports. Serena Williams to be exact. Her big struggle was one of a steady stream of injuries. When you play such a hard-hitting sport like tennis for your entire life, it’s bound to add up. Tony helped her work through the pain, get her mind right, and get back on top. Not just any top. Grand Slam top. Nice volley, you.
Tennis Star Overcoming Addiction. Let’s shift gears to another tennis star on the other side of the gender divide. He was so great at his sport that even decades later, he’s still a household name. But did you know that Andre Agassi was once ranked 126th in the world? He eventually became #1 in the world, but that came with different issues, like drug abuse, which he’s been open about. We happen to be family friends with the coach who helped him through it. Both incredible people with incredible stories. Everyone struggles, but it’s the people who lend a helping hand that become your family, whether by blood or otherwise.
Musical Prodigy Grows Up. We’re all familiar with the musical prodigy, Justin Bieber. He’s had his ups and downs transitioning to adulthood. But when Hillsong’s Carl Lentz stepped in, things started moving in the right direction. He now appears happier, more motivated, and driven with a purpose he didn’t quite have before. Coaches can be called many names. In this case, Justin called him Pastor first, and friend, second.
Wolverine’s Personal Improvement Plan. Sometimes you’re not struggling as much as you are focused on getting a little bit better every day. And so you go out looking for novel ways to achieve that. For two decades, Hugh Jackman had been wanting to work with Tony Robbins (another one!) based on all the positive feedback from his peers. When he finally had the chance, Tony’s first words to him were, “I have a gift for you.” I don’t know about you, but I really want to know what that gift was. Of course, it’s so personalized that it wouldn’t much matter to you, but that’s the whole point of coaching, no? The personalized tactics?
MMA Mental Fights. By now most of us have heard of the MMA. It’s a brutal sport that requires both physical and mental stamina. And one of the best to ever do it was Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell. He also spent time working with Tony Robbins (noticing a pattern?) to get his mind right. The body is a tool, and can only be driven by the mind. So if the mind’s off, your body will be too. Chuck gets it. You should too.

In all of the cases above, you’ll see a similar story. The mechanics are the same:
Struggle + Coach = Achievement
If you remove the struggle, there’s no need for a coach because it means you’re not working towards anything great. As life got busier, meditation became a struggle… I’d go for a few weeks meditating, then for one reason or another I would stop.
Sometimes it was because “I didn’t have time”, sometimes it was “too difficult to sit and focus”, and sometimes I’d stop without any reason at all…
Meditation was something I just couldn’t stick to consistently, and as a result, I couldn’t reap the rewards.
It was frustrating…
Then one day, sick of the constant ups and downs, I set off to explore the possibilities of what the mind and body can do… And over the next
5 years, the journey took on a life of its own…
I Travelled to Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Spain, Brazil and Germany… INHALING every ounce of knowledge about meditation, mindfulness, and the mind-body connection.
I investigated TRADITIONAL ZEN PRACTICES and researched what MODERN SCIENCE knows today about the power of the mind.
This world exposed many truths and many falsehoods about stress, mindfulness, and the untapped potential of our brains and bodies… And let me tell you, it was surprising to see how many others were struggling with practices that just didn’t work for them.
The most significant thing I noted is how stress builds up …and when we DON’T release stress we get sick, diseased, and problems begin to push our lives off track.

First of all, the honest truth about stress…

What you can do however, is quickly bring yourself back to balance. To approach life proactively. To give yourself the tools to navigate challenges with

Whether it’s financial strains, work, family, relationships, concerns about society, health, or the subtle daily stresses that sneak up on us, these things have the potential to snowball.
They far too often grow into something beyond our control, interfering with our ability to create the life we want and damaging not only our
mental wellbeing
, but also our
physical health.
According to a recent Harvard Medical School research paper, “Stress-related health problems are responsible for up to 80% of visits to the doctor and account for the third highest health care expenditures, behind only heart disease and cancer. But as few as 3% of doctors actually talk to patients about how to reduce stress.”
Researchers found that people in who took part in an
active relaxation program used an average of 43% fewer medical services than they did the previous year, saving on average $2,360 per person.
Of course, these are averages. For some people the costs would be lower, for others unfortunately, the costs would be much higher.
But the truth is, it’s not about the money. If we don’t have our health, we simply can’t function at our peak. We can’t fulfil our potential, we can’t show up for our families and other obligations… our hopes and plans go off course.
So, how can we habitually care for our wellbeing?…

When we introduce simplicity, everything changes. We can remove the blockages which create
needless complication
and
limitation.
Maybe it’s anger. Maybe it’s past disappointments which continuously create doubt. Maybe it’s self-criticism which has planted roots in our subconscious mind.
It may be suspicion or wariness about other people, an expectation of failure, or an unshakable feeling of tiredness, frustration, uncertainty, or overwhelm.
The fact is, when you allow yourself to deeply unwind and cultivate mindfulness, complications begin to dissipate… you gain clarity… and you connect with your inner power.
Have you ever had a decision that you just can’t get your head around? Maybe you went for a walk to “clear your head”. Then later, the answer appeared.
It’s like restarting your computer – shutting down the programs that you’re not using any more and
clearing space
.
This should be a ROUTINE. It’s not just about when the situation gets so difficult that you’re forced to remove yourself from the world. When we make mindfulness a core part of our daily routine, it becomes a constant and unlimited source of strength.
And scientists, doctors, psychologists, and policy makers are beginning to take notice…
In Australian schools,
1 million students and 18,000 teachers practice mindfulness every day
in a program run by The Australian Department of Education, Deakin University, child and adolescent psychologists, educators, and resilience specialists.
So far,
68% of participants reported a greater sense of calm
, and teachers have observed “significant improvements in their concentration after participating in the program.”
When you give yourself daily space to
