Continuing my sequel trilogy redesign, it's everyone's favourite magic family soap opera. Maya and Pearl deserved actual outfit changes it's ridiculous they did not. Plus a Mia because just let me have this alright?

Maya, nothing too drastic, i went through her aa6 concept art page and stole some elements i liked. Plus blue details for nick and yellow for mia

Pearly!!! She's 18 now lets let her look it, come on capcom. Left her colours the same since i changed her style so much

ok so! gio and fugo are very phoenix and edgeworth coded but, like, several times more insane. they are probably both young prodigy lawyers bc thats a possibility in this universe

fugo is a prosecutor with a perfect record, at least until giorno comes along. giorno pulls the same kind of insane bullshit u see phoenix pull, except earlier in trials and with full confidence. fugo is convinced giorno was sent from hell to kill him

like in canon giorno follows a sense of justice but its his own sense of justice. he'll get someone acquitted if he believes that their crime was justified. world's first lawful chaotic

trish is gio's partner bc im always on that giotrish friendship agenda. she's probably more of a kay than a maya if u get what i mean.

in this crossover the og bucci team are still friends in some way shape or form, either because bucciarati is also a defense attorney (aka got the rest of them acquitted) or he has a radar for troubled individuals no matter the universe

im leaning more towards bruno just being a regular guy, tbh. i feel like the impetus for gio and fugo getting closer is bruno getting framed for a murder. fugo can't defend him, so bruno asks if he knows anyone who can and fugo is like. fuck. i Do know a guy

nara and mista are like the larry of this universe ig? not much to say on them. fugo prob gets mad at them bc they keep helping giorno out

its very funny to me if gio represented abbacchio as one of his first cases. abbacchio is all like 'i killed my partner and i deserve to go to jail for it' and giorno is just 'anyway i got you acquitted of all charges'. then abba just hates this kid for doing his job

also if the joestars are included in this au, then they're the fey equivalent. jolyne is like the heir to the clan or whatever maya is. dio is a ghost who's been haunting their family for ages. giorno takes one look at that nonsense and decides he doesn't want to deal with it

[Another video is attached, presumably taken once again by Maya. The witness, Bif Wellington, looks considerably more distraught than he did in the last video, which is impressive because it hasn't been very long at all.

"Well, Mr. Wellington?" Edgeworth says, thoroughly unimpressed. "What do you have to say for yourself?"

"He deserved it!" Bif shrieks. "He's a scumbag! The world would be better off with him dead, but pardon me for thinking that the detectives would be slightly better at investigating than they were!"

Edgeworth sighs. "If you believe that slandering my subordinates will somehow earn you preferential treatment, you are sorely mistaken."

"And you!" Bif turns to face Mia, furious. "You of all people should be on my side! We both hate Grossberg!"

"That..." Mia hesitates.

"He refused to defend my brother when he needed it! I know what he did to your mother, so help me!"

Mia's hand, visible atop the defense bench, curls into a fist.

"Let me be entirely clear," Mia says. "I despise Marvin Grossberg for reasons that are not relevant to the case at hand. However, there is a very big difference between hating someone, and wanting them dead. I do not want him dead."

"Why not?!"

Mia breathes in, breathes out, and doesn't answer the question. "More importantly—my desire for justice outweighs how little I like the man. You tried to kill him. We are not on the same side, and never have been."

Bif shrieks again, tearing the scarf off of his neck and—attempting—to throw it at Mia. He does not have the upper arm strength to get it even particularly close to her, though, and so the scarf flutters rather pathetically to the floor in the middle of the courtroom instead.

He watches it fall, then—as it hits the ground—breaks down entirely and starts sobbing into the stand, repeating to himself, "I did it, but he deserved it, I did it, but he—"

"Your Honor?" Mia says, not looking at Bif. "I believe that is the case closed."

The judge nods slowly. "You're quite right, Ms. Fey... how is it that your agency always ends up with the most strange of cases?"

Mia shrugs.

Phoenix, beside her, offers up an explanation: "Because no one else is willing to take them?"

"That," Edgeworth says, "would not surprise me."

"...Which part?"

Edgeworth remains silent. So the judge lifts his gavel, and clears his throat, and brings it down.

"Well, never mind all that," the judge says. "This court finds the defendant, Gen Taranz..."

"NOT GUILTY!"

Someone throws confetti down from... somewhere. Bif Wellington is escorted out of the courtroom by the bailiff, and the camera briefly shifts to Gen, who looks like he's about to cry, before Maya whispers, "Hang on. He looks like he needs a hug and the bailiffs cannot stop me."

She passes her phone to either Maggey or Sakura—it's a toss-up which one, considering that neither of them are in possession of hands—and then dashes out of the gallery to go meet with Gen.

PRINCESS BRIDE AU CAST LIST HERE WE GO BOYS We'll start with the easy ones first and my reasonings of why- Buttercup -> Miles Edgeworth Stubborn, prideful, rude towards 'Westley' at first, dramatic, sarcastic, smart, related to Von Karma more than anyone else (I'll explain more in the Prince Humperdnik casting). Westley/Dread Pirate Robert -> Phoenix Wright/Shelly De Killer Resourceful, bluff (just... the whole scene with the cups and the poison is a very Phoenix move), devoted, selfless, brave, witty, stubborn, could survive something that would kill everyone else out of sheer will. ---- Tell me Phoenix wouldn't be the guy to say "As you wish" with all that tenderness and devotion to a guy who is objectively a jerk. --- Okay, supporting cast now! the sillies and the goofies- Inigo Montoya -> Diego Armando/Godot I have less of a personality analysis and more of a setting that makes sense, but bare with me. First off, well, he's the most likely to want to kill Phoenix and then help him later. Secondly, they both carry physical wounds that are related to a deep loss. Thirdly, he uses Godot for the whole time until "My name is Diego Armando. You killed my true love, prepare to die." Fourthly, Mia Fey was killed by someone with a heart-shaped pendant ;) Fezzik -> Dick Gumshoe Tall, strong, dumb man. Miracle Max and Valerie -> Mystic Maya and Pearl THEY ARE SILLY AND GOOFY AND MAGIC AND PEARL WOULD 100% PUSH MAYA TO HELP FOR TRUE LOVE TELL ME IM WRONG --- Now, we get to the assholes y a y :) Prince Humperdnik -> Manfred von Karma and Franziska von Karma In this AU, Prince Humperdnik is divided into Manfred Von Karma and Franziska Von Karma. Manfred is the current king and is trying to cause a war with the nation of Khura'in, like Humperdnik in the movie. However, he does not marry Miles himself and, instead, fiances him to his daughter Franziska (which neither are particularly happy about btw). He is the one who goes on the hunt and organizes the promises, torture, wedding, etc. Franziska is less involved and is forced to remain in the castle by her father. Count Ruden -> Dahlia Hawthorne She would want Mia dead 100% and would have no qualms about hurting Phoenix. Also, she is responsible of blinding Godot in Ace Attorney and in this. The Albino -> Iris Hawthorne She would help Dahlia but doesn't have the blood-thirst that she seems to possess. Vizzini -> Damon Gant I just want him to die. Also, he laughs a lot and thinks he's much smarter than he actually is. Also, also, everyone in the crew would be against a defense attorney, so it's in theme B) --- And, finally, in the real world, the beloved. The Grandson -> Trucy Gramarye She is my beloved, my dearest girl and she deserves a good story. Also, idk why, but she sounds like she would refuse a kissing story at first and then just get into it. The Grandfather -> Magnify Gramarye He is her actual grandpa and the character has a little mystical side that Magnify most certainly has.

Ok Justice For All. This is not going to be exhaustive or comprehensive but here we go.

The first case we don't really need to cover. It's a tutorial, it achieves what it sets out to do, there's not a whole lot else. I really like the amnesia concept and while I wish more had been done with it (like being used in a regular case), I understand the mechanical service it does for a tutorial.

Our second case is solid. It was really fun to figure out exactly what happened and if you've been following my 'game posting' tag you saw exactly how much fun I had. I kind of wish we had gotten more out of Misty, but that wouldn't really work in this medium (lol get it). Obviously I love Pearly I adore her I would be her slave she deserves the world. Phoenix, stop showing her the horrors, please. I just really have to keep coming back to how fun this case was to solve. Sometimes the correct things to do mechanically make no sense to me bc I don't leap far enough with my logic, but this case I was able to do pretty easily which tells me it was very well written with the proper foreshadowing and such (and I am a sucker for properly laid ground work). I like that we get more Fey lore. I am devastated that I guesses the twist ending but I had no one to witness it. It's probably my favorite case this game.

Bigtop is a mess. We're going to ignore the Regina age problem for our sanity and pretend she's 18 bc wtf (I knew this but just now [as I was typing the end of this paragraph] connected the dots that in Japan 16 is viewed as our 18 and they just didn't localize her age). I really like Max! He's my favorite character to come out of this case and I will never let go of my wrightica/galactright ship (is there an official ship name?). He thinks Edgeworth is dead, it could happen. Also! Diversity win! The guy who murdered you is wheelchair bound! But actually I really like the concept of Acro's motivations, driven to madness and murder by grief. I like it less when we come back to Regina's canon age, like even when she's 18 Acro should still view her as a child and personally I could never hold something like that against a child. It was decidedly and accident and not even remotely her fault. It's not her fault your brother was swayed to do something idiotic by the power of boners, my guy. Also Regina is not ok. She needs help and the only one who realizes it is Moe. Everyone else is 'enabling' (that's not exactly the word I'm looking for but it's in the ballpark) her. Her own father was likely the worst offender. Moe may not be funny (I actually liked his jokes) but he is genuinely a great guy.

Our last case: Extremely well written. I went into this already knowing the outcome, how could I not. Despite this, I was so worried about Maya everything else went out the window. For a minute I actually convinced myself of the possibility that Adrian had done it (I am so sorry for everything we put you through, but it was for Maya). This case really put me in Phoenix's shoes. I'd imagine if you don't actually like Maya, this might not do for you what it did for me, but if you don't like Maya I don't know how you've managed to play all the way through the second game. Of course the good ending where you toss Engarde to the wolves (the assassin he hired) is iconic. That's what you get. Again if you've been following my 'game posting' tag you know I had strong feelings about Edgeworth through this. Most of them were due to the stress of Maya being kidnapped (I seriously got waaayyyyyy too in character during this case), but also he was smug as hell for no reason when he showed back up. He was like 'new me!' and refused to elaborate. Phoenix is not a mind reader, my guy. He won me over again so we're good. Also the dinner? At the end it literally says "I wonder if there's anything I can give him to express how I feel...?" I think we can all imagine my first thought... actually I don't trust people to put thoughts in my head, my first thought was a kiss. (You actually give the whip and Miles yet again thinks Phoenix is a mind reader, will it ever end?) I can't forget! Gummy's official stint at Wright Co! My one post about him being a Phoenix Wright weird girl was really popular and then my second (about this case) also got some notes, so clearly this is the Gumshoe content we're all looking for. (Can they please stop firing him though? He's going to end up dead on the street from starvation.) I thought it was really something how much Phoenix trusts Gumshoe. He said

The scene with Franziska and Miles at the end was sorely needed and it was fantastic. They're both growing and healing from shared trauma and it's beautiful.

Over all... I forget, is this the one people don't like out of the trilogy? I liked it. The first is obviously iconic and banger after banger, but I do like this one. Overall it's definitely worth playing and very enjoyable. (Idk bc I haven't tried it personally, but there's a post going around about ds estore emulation or something where you can play games from the ds estore for free now that it's closed, so as far as I know you can play it for free now.)

— i just. yes the stuff with jean sucks majorly (i went in armed with janet hsu’s trivia that he is meant to be a cis gay drag-performing guy and thus had a better experience than most people did i think) but the last turnabout was fucking spectacular. i love when phoenix straight up lies.

An unpopular opinion: crap, but that just now *was* my unpopular opinion! okay uhh. i really like how godot and iris and misty have the exact same guilt complex going on. i think if you have different opinions on the three of them you are somewhat missing the point (like yes misty did abandon her children and yes godot is mean sometimes but like. at their core. they are So Much the same and that is what destroys them and also what starts off bridge to the turnabout.)

— also i think that aa4 should have been phoenix and maya destroying the death penalty because they’ve realized that the truth is necessary yes but also punishment does not work and will never get only the imaginary perfect bad person because all aa villains are human but especially in the end with godot. and then they should deal with the ramifications of the fact that this means morgan will not be subjected to the death penalty

— OH ALSO phoenix was absolutely in the right to take pearl along to investigations in jfa 2-4. can you imagine being what, 8 years old, and your only family left in the entire world is kidnapped, and your other only family left in the entire world fucking leaves you because you’re a kid and ooh kids shouldn’t be exposed to violence ooh? i would have killed phoenix wright. i don’t care if gumshoe babysits her or she gets sent to a daycare or something i would have still killed him. she deserves to be up to date on everything she deserves to see him at his most honest

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

Maya is so so so quirky and funny but she's also pulling a lot of weight in the emotional core of the trilogy. She's so much deeper and more interesting than I think a lot of people give her credit for.

She has a second stomach for steaks and a seconder stomach for sweets.

it's a song about being a goofy quirky person in public to amuse other people and spread joy and only taking off the mask and showing your real self with the few people you're closest to. which is pretty Maya to me, I think.

i like to think i have it in me the capacity to be a lawyer's weirdgirl.

i think she's a little bit of a fujoshi. not like to a creepy fetishistic extent but she definitely reads magisteel doujins.

she uses emojis to an almost ridiculous degree which tends to really confuse people. like those copypasta memes she types like that unironically. she'll also just send an emoji of a food to nick and that's enough to tell him that she wants him to bring her that food. her top used emoji is in fact 🍔

i really like her with franziska. i think there's potential for an intricate web of polycular toxic yuri with a bunch of the other weirdgirls in that age range though.

Patsy "Hellcat" Walker. She was Jen's weirdgirl for the entire 2014 She-Hulk run. Has psychic hell powers. Industrial-strength mommy issues. I think putting these two in the same room would have catastrophic consequences.

27. Apollo’s perceive, Phoenix’s magatama or Athena’s Mood Matrix?

I think Apollo’s perceive is the most fun visually but the least interesting in terms of gameplay. It just feels like finding a contradiction with extra steps and except for very rare instances it doesn’t tell you much about a character :/ I love it in fic tho lol— so many needless misunderstandings coming from it!! And the ability to show someone else that you’re telling the truth… and Trucy!!! God I love Trucy and I love how discerning she is (even though she doesn’t have her own bracelet. Sigh)

Athena’s mood matrix always felt a bit clunky to me gameplay-wise but I LOVE it from a character/ information gathering standpoint. I am truly obsessed with Athena and I think her interactions with characters/ her own psyche/ the world at large through widget/ the mood matrix is so cool and makes the feral dog in my brain run in circles

The magatama is SOOO good to me and i love it from both a character and gameplay standpoint. I think it really adds interest to investigation segments which is needed imo. I especially love it’s implementation in jfa with 2-2 and 2-4 and in 3-5 with Iris… MWAH!!

37. Capcom suddenly announces that Phoenix will no longer appear in the Ace Attorney franchise! Your reaction?

oh girl I am posting crab rave gif if that EVER happens. I’m so sorry but that hag is OLD put him in the GROUND!!! I need the other thousand characters that have been introduced to have their own time to be played with!!! As someone who really loves the implications of Apollo justice and the characters and dynamics of dual destinies (especially Athena and Blackquill), I was really bummed that more time wasn’t spent on unpacking and linking dd and aj in spirit of justice :-(

I love Phoenix but largely in regards to his interactions with the feys and Trucy and edgeworth and not so much is character by himself. Like many I find his character writing after aj really jarring and unappealing especially with how he eats into Athena and Apollo’s screen time. Sad!! That being said I’m pretty sure Shu Takumi has gone on record saying that he wanted to make a ghost trick game where Phoenix fucking died and I would pay good money if that ever happens fhfjfjfj

40. Would you like an Ace Attorney anime?

As someone who hasn’t seen the current AA anime…. Uhhh idk. I’ve heard it’s very good but some of the animation flaws have REALLY put me off of it and im not usually someone who gets excited by rereleases/ adaptations normally so it’s just not very exciting to me. I remember losing my shit when it was announced but since it didn’t really feel like there was a lot added outside of the game plot I’ve never felt much urge to set aside time for it. I’ve seen gifs of some moments that compel me but idk. Also I really don’t like Maya’s voice rip!!!!

if there was another one made with triple the budget and more of an OVA thing I might be intrigued but tbh I can just look at fan worlds. @/ricadiazarts’s old fake anime gifs are everything to me so if there was an anime that looked and felt like them I’d be interested :))

45. One thing you think the Ace Attorney games can improve on?

I mean god. So much. I love the games dearly and I think largely they get a worse rap than they deserve but… certainly there’s issues. Tbh most of my issues are with clunky game mechanics of the later games (magatama AND perceive AND mood matrix AND spirit seance) as well as just How Many Characters there are for no reason just hanging out at crime scenes which really take the tension out imo. Most of this is expected bloat from any series that goes on too long but in the og trilogy… I have very few issues and since it’s so nostalgic and of its time they really don’t bother me much 🤷‍♀️

If I was to pick one thing it’d probably be having shu takumi stay on as the head writer for DD and SOJ to save some of the reoccurring characters’s writing. And maybe implementing that underground court setting for DD/ tossing out the “dark age of the law” bullshit. Smile :)

As a person who is very weird but neurotypical (at least to my knowledge) it's honestly sad to me how literally any character who is just the slightest bit weird gets labelled as "neurodivergent". Don't get me wrong, it's great for neurodivergent people to have their representation and see themselves on the screen, we need stories about characters with autism and ADHD! It's just that right now every character i can identify with (Maya Fey, Perry, Lilo, Mabel, Newt Scamander, the list goes on), every weird scrunkly blorbo is labeled as autistic and/or ADHD not because they show the characteristic traits of neurodivergence but only because they're different. And what it tells me and others like me is:

You have no right to be different in this world unless you have a diagnosis.

Which is an awful message to send. It hurts. It makes one feel bad about being themself as if they didn't deserve it. It makes one wish they were autistic to be able to be themself. It perpetuates desperate need to conform to "being normal" (which is something that doesn't exist actually) and that's not something we want, is it? Don't we have enough harm with social media influencers, ever-present beauty standards, and the constant disappointment from our elders? Do we really need more stomping on originality and uniqueness in the world?

And might i add, the same goes for "transgender-coded" characters. If a girl doesn't wear make up, acts like a little gremlin, and/or is buff and plays a lot of sports, she's either lesbian, trans, or both. Whatever happened to "just a girl who is different"? The same goes for guys of course. How did we go from saying you're not feminine/masculine unless you fulfill a stereotype to saying you're not a woman/a man unless you fulfill a stereotype?! It's so much worse!

and another thing.

if every character that has a unique characterization in their thought process, or fictional perspective, MUST BE “autistic” or “neurodivergent-coded,” that character is no longer relatable to people who don’t self-diagnose, or identify with, or are not diagnosed with, autism or anything on the neurodivergent spectrum.

I mean honestly I see you guys out here telling me that Mulan is neurodivergent, that ROZ from the Wild Robot is neurodivergent and gee, so is Brightbill, that Hiccup is neurodivergent and Ariel is autistic.

The whole point of characters, especially main characters, especially main characters in children’s media, is to be believable and relatable, on some level. If they’re all ‘special brain-different,’ they’re only relatable to people who accept that label or are given that diagnosis.

AND. It does a huge disservice to the storytelling techniques.

A story is supposed to get under the mental guard of a person. You’re supposed to take your hands off the “thought” wheel and your feet off the “emotion” pedals, and let the story drive your brain and heart to a new place. Or an old place you haven’t been in a while, or were forgetting.

One of the best ways to do that is to create a character that, on the surface, seems special and unrelatable. Like a girl living in the Imperial Dynasty of China, or a literal non-human robot. You can’t, on the surface, relate to them as easily, so you naturally start to think, “what would it be like to be seeing the world through these new eyes?” And then you’ve given up the wheel and pedals of your mind to the movie. You find yourself relating to concepts like motherhood and protectiveness, which the robot character is experiencing, but you’re looking at those concepts through new eyes.

That is why the character is a robot. Not so that she can be an allegory for your “special-undefined-perspective-on-life which is sometimes called neurodivergence.” She’s not a robot for that reason. She’s a robot because a robot character flips the “what would it be like to learn everything over again?” switch in your brain, and then the story can show you it’s focus, (like motherhood and kindness in The Wild Robot) after the switch is flipped.

and it’s flipped for everybody, (“neurodivergent” and “neurotypical”) not just people who identify as the vague term “neurodivergent,” or have been diagnosed as autistic. Stop fitting everything into vague-enough-to-be-claimed, but named-enough-to-be-a-special-identity boxes. You’re ruining the universal, unifying value of it all.
