I wish I could stream-of-consciousness about being Filipino, but I just don't do stream-of-consciousness blogging.
I wonder which face to use to talk about being Filipino since this isn't Milgram-related. I guess I'll post on main and then reblog it.
Compilation of me screaming "I'm Filipino!":
Writing a story where the protagonist uses a spoon and fork ("Blind Style")
Using "Ate" and "Kuya" in my comic and stories. And in the name of the file I made when I was writing my fic on my sibling's laptop (ate_fic_dont_touch.rtf)
Instantly reacting to iconic Filipino foods like ube and adobo
(Side note, but I've been thinking of talking about books that I've read lately. Mostly music stuff, but there's this series of murder mystery books called the "Tita Rosie's Kitchen Mysteries". The writing is... fine.)
Other stuff below the cut. I might add stuff later.
My favorite dish is sinigang. Other staple dishes are tinola, nilaga, mongo, adobo... My dad's favorite is karekare, but I hate that.
I am 1/8th Ilocano, but that doesn't really count for anything when my great-grandmother was born in Manila.
I can follow casual conversations, but ask me to speak and I won't be able to string my learned vocabulary and grammar together. I usually throw single Tagalog words into English sentences.
Sample phrase: "Tatlong pusa sa mesa." Three cats on the table. Last year, my cousins' cats were really naughty and all got on the table when nobody was looking.
I can sing nursery rhymes. ("Ako ay may lobo, lumipad sa langit...")
My screen name is Philyra K. Illagan. If I could change it today, I'd be "Philomena" instead. But Philyra is one of my oldest characters, so I just made it so her paternal grandmother is Philomena, and Philyra's name is a portmanteau of that and her mother's name, Analira. I don't know how prevalent portmanteaus are in the Philippines, but my fictional world has a whole family tree branch of portmanteaus.
I've had a concept of a story called "The 8th Grade Wars" since I was in 7th grade. It has evolved over the years, but one constant is the focus on the protagonist's Filipino identity. I've flipped my family tree, so she has what I think is an Ilocano surname. (I originally had her know Tagalog and Cebuano, but now that I know I'm a little bit Ilocano, I'll replace Cebuano with Ilocano)

ang sweet nung mama ni J nung pinag luto niya ako ng itlog, niluto niya talaga yung dilaw kasi alam niya daw ayaw ko nung hilaw na dilaw. haha. sweet things done by my future MIL yie. tsaka pag ayaw niya ipagalaw sa mga anak niya yung pagkain na nakatabi para sakin. haha nakaka soft.
nung bumisita kami kila Chi nung New Year, pinag luto niya pa ako ng pesto pasta kasi favorite ko raw. tsaka naaalala niya raw ako tuwing makakakita siya ng pesto. haha. kahit nung hindi pa siya kasal dati nung nasa QC pa siya pinapapunta niya ako sakanila para ipagluto ng pesto.
nung okay pa kami ni papa, pag nagluluto yung ng adobong pusit at bistek, sasabihin niya "sinarapan ko luto ko kasi alam koong paborito mo yan e."
kapag binabanggit ni J na ayaw ko ng nilagang baboy kasi baka ang gusto ko sa nilaga, tsaka ayaw ko ng sinigang na hindi sobrang asim haha.
di ko rin malimutan yung tinawagan ako ni Mikee sa Facetime dahil naka deactivate lahat ng socmed ko. dahil nga madalas ako mag MIA kapag di ako okay emotionally talaga, sobrang naaapreciate ko talaga yung mga nagrereach out sakin kahit alam na nila na nagiging routine ko nga yung magtago.
ewan ko, pero gustong gusto ko kapag alam ng mga tao esp pag sa work na bestfriend ko si Marika, like hindi kumpleto kapag wala yung isa samin, kaya nung nakaraan ina-update ako nung kawork namin about kay Marika kahit di ko tinatanong haha. sakanya rin ako tinatanong nung dating bisor namin lol. tsaka kami lagi pinag papartner noon kapag may work assignment kami dito sa Bicol. kaya nung nag resign ako madalas na siya nalulungkot kasi wala na ko. huehue. para kaming soul sisters non e.
medyo big deal narin sakin na natatandaan ni tita (mama ni J) yung pangalan ng mga malalapit kong kaibigan—nagulat ako nung isang araw kala niya si Marika kausap ko haha. nagpunta na kasi dito yun. ayun kilala niya narin si Jasmine at Chi kasi madalas kong kavideo call. para ko narin tuloy siyang tunay na mama hehe.
actually marami pa, kaso baka di na ko matapos haha. as a softie person, yung mga simpleng bagay para sa iba talaga, malaki na impact sakin. hehe. tsaka lagi akong grateful, kahit hindi ko man sabihin kapag may ginawa kang mabuti sakin maliit man o malaki, big impact na yun.
kasali kayo dito. alam niyo na kung sino kayo, nahihiya na ko mag tag. haha. yung mga simpleng pag kamusta niyo sakin, yung mga nakasubaybay sa mga struggles at wins ko, pati nung time na ang gulo gulo ng buhay ko, yung mga simpleng effort na nagawa niyo for me, sobrang na-appreciate ko. kahit hindi man tayo close na close, kahit yung mga small interactions natin paminsan minsan big deal na yun sakin.

September 9 & 10, Saturday Sunday.
past 5 pm na ko nakasakay pauwi.
habang nasa uv, sobrang tuwa ko. kahit pagod, okay lang. there's just this urge na gusto ko makauwi kahit saglit lang this weekends.
kausap ko yung kapatid ko sabi ko sana may adobo, nilaga, o sinigang haha. parang namiss ko kasi yung luto ni mama e.
naluha ako nung bumili daw si papa ng manok para magluto si mama ng chicken curry huhuhu. 🥺
wala, miss ko lang sila. kahit sobrang gulo at ingay minsan sa bahay, nothing beats yung presence nila. nakakacharge lang ng pagkatao. 😭😂
kahit antok na antok na ko, tinake ko na lang yung chance na manood ng movie with my sister kasi namiss ko yung bonding namin sa panonood ng movies.worth it naman, nanood kami ng past lives.
haaaaaay, miss ko pamilya ko hahahahahsha.
nung sunday, dami kong dalang damit sa isang bag, tapos biglang nagpadala si mama ng kutsinta at puto haha. since mabigat nga at dami kong dala, nagpasama na lang ako sa kapatid ko at nagpahatid. (para makasama ko rin sya nang mas matagal hahahaha).
kahit gusto ko man magtagal sa bahay, di na ako nagpahapon kasi mamamalantsa pa ako ng mga damit ko, ako rin naman mapapagod.
next time na lang ulit. ang lungkot ulit hahahaha.

It's been a while since may napadpad dito hahahaha!!
Anw, hmmmm... Yung first gf ko was from here (ewan ko if andito pa rin siya? Feeling ko andito pa ren). Taga-Bulacan yon then that time kasi she was a graduating student from BSHM sa BulSU (diba brainy hahaha) when I met her. She's jolly, shy-type tas sobrang hina magsalita HAHAHAHA pero she's so cute and thoughtful pag kasama mo siya. Nakakatakot nga manggigil yon kasi kala mo may rabies basta nangangagat HAHAHA pero yon that was also the thing that I really love about her. Ano pa yon nung OJT nya sa Makati hatid-sundo ko pa siya non kahit wala ako sasakyan hahaha(take note na taga-south ako HAHAHAHA). Sa kanya ko talaga na-experience yung bumiyahe ng malayo just to keep her safe hahahaha! Then yon kasama din ako sa graduation day niya that time. May picture pa nga kami non dati sa tapat ng kapitolyo nila eh tas hanggang sa nagkaron siya work kasama nya ko hatid-sundo ulit from QC to Bulacan pag mahaba off nya.
Then yon, going almost 2 years ata yon, nag-break kami. Kasalanan ko din naman kasi that time medyo nagkukulang na rin ako sa part ko as her partner saka may nagawa din ako kasalanan. So yun she decided to break up with me. At first syempre ayoko hahaha iyak-iyak pa ko non kasi nga ayoko talaga siya mawala non pero later that year naman narealize ko na oo tama din naman yung call nya kasi it's for us din nanan to be better. So, yun! Yun na yon HAHAHAHA
Nakakamiss den dumayo pag may sakit yung tao tas paglutuan mo lang sinigang (or nilaga ata niluto ko non). Maya-maya okay na HAHAHAHA!

Lazy recipes for cooking beginners
There are two types of people in the world: One, people who know how to cook, and the other, who don't. And they are both lazy (at times). So, this is for people who are learning how to cook and don't want to follow strict instructions. You can simply put the ingredients in a pan and then you will end up with the still delicious food! In these recipes, we will follow our ancestor’s instincts for the ingredients (I don't measure).
ADOBO

A classic savory Filipino dish that is actually easy, you can cook it everyday until you get sick of it. Be careful of the peppercorn attack!
Ingredients:
2:1:1 ratio of water, vinegar. and soy sauce
head of garlic and onion (you can use less)
tsp of whole blck peppercorn
tbsp of sugar
boiled egg (optional)
chopped potatoes into chunks (optional)
Protein of choice (Chicken, Beef or Pork)
Steps:
Combine everything in a pan, except for the potatoes and egg.
2. Let it boil and let the sauce thicken. [NOTE: this is a lazy recipe, please do not judge]
3. Add the potatoes in the middle of the cooking process
4. Add in eggs before it finishes cooking, and you're done!
I hope you may never bite into a whole peppercorn.

This is a fish recipe cooked in vinegar and strong aromatics, causing a sour yet flavorful dish
Ingredients:
2:1 ratio of vinegar and water
Knob of ginger, sliced
6 cloves of garlic, roughly chopped
Medium onion, sliced
Fish of choice
1 bitter gourd, sliced (optional)
2 Green chili pepper
Salt and whole peppercorn
Steps:
Add in the water and vinegar ratio, ginger, garlic, onion, and peppercorn in a pan and let it boil for 10 minutes in a low heat.
Add the fish and the bitter gourd until both are cooked.
Add salt to taste and long chili peppers. Enjoy!
NILAGA

This soup is a bowl of comforting goodness, and doesn't have a strong flavor or taste. Perfect for rainy and flu season.
Ingredients:
a kilo of protein (Pork or Beef), cleaned
2 head of onion, cut into quarters
2 Potatoes, cut into quarters
1 Cabbage, cut into quarters
Fish Sauce
Whole peppercorn 
Steps:
Add in the protein of choice in a pot and cover with water until about full. Let it boil for 30 minutes
Remove the scums (those floating brown stuff at the top of the pot), those are impurities from the meat.
After every scum has been removed add in the onion and peppercorn, let it boil until the meat is fork tender.
Add in the potatoes, and after 5 minutes add in the cabbage
Season with fish sauce, and enjoy!
This is my favorite food and to think that I cannot cook in this in my dorm is sad.

SUNDAY—
Went to bulacan ng maaga. Halos kumpleto kami, si papa lang wala kasi nga nakabalik na sa ibang bansa. We had Bombings at Nilaga kaya sobrang sulit ng lunch na yon.
After lunch ay nag SM kami. & yes, kasama si baby!! Napikon lang ako kasi sobrang tagal namon sa parking lot!!! Punong puno at paikot ikot kami don. Huhuhu bat naman ganon sm marilao!!!!
Ang agenda pala ng SM namin ay magwatch ng movie at magtingin ng damit para sa kasal ni ate meg. Meron ng peg si aj— hindi kasi approve sa stylist ko (my sister & aj) yung mga gusto kong suotin e hahahahaha tho hindi kami bumili muna dahil undecided pa at time na para magmovie.
We watched A Very Good Girl— yes dumayo kami ni aj sa bulacan para magmovie lol. Super proud ako sa aking bebi girl 🩷
Sa bahay na kami nagdinner. Hindi na din namin inihatid sila giannis kasi may sundo na sila. Maaga din ako nakatulog dahil maaga kami aalis ni aj pabalik ng laguna.

CVAP WEEK 3 BLOG
Hello! Ok game 3rd week na pala noh. Grabe and bilis lang. Siguro ganun talaga pag nag eenjoy ka sa ginagawa mo noh?
O sya sya simulan ko na ang kwento ko.
Ang trainer namen ay si Miss Janeanne. Grabe ang galing niya! Sobrang naispire ako sa kwento niya na recently ay isa na syang fulltime voice artist (naks!). Pero hindi biro ang pinagdaanan niya ha? Kwento ni trainer Janeanne, nung nag sisimula pa lang daw siya ay madami siyang pinasang audition kaso walang kumukuha sa kanyang client. It took her 8 months and hundreds of auditions para maka sungkit ng client. Talagang tama ang ang kasabihan na pag may tiyaga may nilaga. Oo na sige na, gasgas na kung gasgas ang kasabihan na to, pero totoo na talagang karamihan ng bagay na gusto naten ay madadaan sa tiyaga.
Tinuro din pala ni trainer Janeanne ang tungkol sa voice care. Ilan sa mga tips niya na naalala ko ay ang pag gargle ng maligamgam na tubig na may asin. tapos dapat daw hinay hinay lang sa mga dairy products at mga bisyo mga at least 15mins bago ka mag recording or magrecord ng dub.
at isa pang tinuro ni trainer Janeanne ay ang pag practice ng tongue twisters everyday hanggat kaya.
Okay punta na tayo sa 2nd half ng training.
Mga testimonials ng mga members ng previous batch ng CVAP ang napagusapan sa training. Sobrang inspiring ng mga kwento nila kaya lalo akong naging excited na matapos na ang training, maka graduate at magsimula ng mag join sa mga projects ng CVAP kung papalarin at mabibigyan ng opportunity.
Pa intense na ng pa intense at mas nagiging exciting na ang mga ganap sa training kaya as usual, sobrang looking forward na ako sa week number 4!
Ok hanggang dito na lang muna tayo at antok na ko. HAHA
