So I recently started watching Halo on Paramount+ and I got to episode 8 where Makee and Chief got very intimate and I was chatting with my friend on discord and then went on a rant about how Chief and the other Spartans could have enhanced fertility✨
Enjoy

I finished the third chapter of "Recreation," yay!
Yeah, just the third chapter, not the whole fic or anything, but look at the date of the last update:
So this has been in the works for perilously close to a year and a half? 👀I think that deserves a tiny celebration, especially considering how long I've been struggling with writer's block.
John's probably wondering when "15 Minutes," his reader fic, is going to get updated, then. Welp, Chief, you're up next, so let's keep our fingers crossed, hm?
At least this one updated in this same year, so that's something, right?
(Uh-oh, I'm not sure if my Spartans are buying what I'm trying to sell here, meep! 👀😉)
Now, fortunately, I have the next GIF manip ready for Kai's reader fic but I didn't get a chance to make anything for "15 Minutes" before my computer parted ways with making GIFs. 😭 So I'll have to either use something more generic for "15 Minutes," not add a GIF or wait to add one until I can make them again. I dunno, we'll see. I actually want to get at least the 2 next chapters roughly written out for "15 Minutes" before I post chapter 7 because we're about to hit a very large cliffhanger and I don't want to risk having to wait a long time before resolving it. 🤞😣🤞
"Recreation," though, is going to get its next chapter posted as soon as I'm done with the editing. This chapter is super-sized, almost as big as the first 2 together 😳 but I'd say that should be fine after such a long gap between updates, right? 🤷♀️
Okay, just wanted to share some good news for once! 🤗🤗🤗

Vital Record
It's harder than expected to find a safe-for-my-dash photo of these two that still has relevance to the fic.
Do you want to see big bad Master Chief snuggle a baby? The correct answer is YES.
The vaunted Baby Blessed One fic is here. FINALLY. I have it on Tumblr @mrtobenamedlater so it's officially up now.
This obviously ignores the S1 finale. It is also not anything I want to see on the show (nor do I think we will, as things ended up), but I didn't want The Scene either yet here we are. I decided it should at least have a purpose.
No current plans to continue this but I have several ideas for what could happen if I did. I'll post about them here at some point.
This is also I believe my first Halo fic in which Cortana is not prominently featured.

⁺˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚⁺‧͙⁺˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚⁺‧͙⁺˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚⁺‧͙
I want you to protect my daughter.
The Chief tasks Sokka and I with the most important mission of all: making sure Princess Yue remains safe during the Fire Nation invasion. Our week-long stay at the Northern Water Tribe turned sour and we were all gearing for battle. It’s just like them, the empire, to ruin anything good.
In the beginning, I was amazed by the icy fortress. It was the most snow I’d ever seen in my life. During the day, it was calming to breathe the cold air in and out. Such a harsh contrast from the constant crimson and heat I was used to. It felt like a cleanse. Or maybe that’s just how it feels to be around so many water-benders.
Katara had trouble convincing them that she was worth teaching, as only boys and men can become water-benders. Girls were stuck with the healing. But Master Pakku should’ve known better than to spit this rhetoric in her face.
Sokka and I were baffled, almost laughing, knowing what was to come.
She quickly impressed him and bested every single one of his students. In a week, she progressed beyond any of them and shut Master Pakku right up. As the only water-bender in her home tribe, she had something to prove.
I was enjoying the solitude of the ice and snow in front of me. It was quiet up here. You could pretend the Fire Nation didn’t exist with how endless the sea drifted off.
After coming out to Aang, Sokka, and Katara, I was focused on sharpening my bending skills. I was a little rough around the edges, but I smoothed them out. It took a few days before they let me practice on my own. I wasn't offended by their discretion, it was a given for us.
Fire-bending after so long without it felt like breathing when your lungs were taken away from you as punishment. All things considered, I never fell out of love with my gift. It was an outlet to everything I was feeling and now I can express it completely. There is no me without this.
That glee, though, lasted for only a week before the Fire Nation showed up at the Northern Water Tribe’s doorsteps.
Now, Sokka and I were walking around the icy homes and bridges, looking for Princess Yue.
“Sokka! Y/N!” She calls out for us. I turn towards her voice and spot her. She wasn't hard to miss. Her moon-colored hair is an instant light everywhere she goes. The Princess is a few yards away, closing the space in a hurry. “There’s someone attacking the Oasis!”
“Stay here with Yue,” I tell Sokka. “I’ll go ahead.” The boy in blue nods at my instruction and she points me in the direction she was coming from. I use my bending to propel myself into the air, moving faster than walking or running ever could.
When I reach the door, I instantly see water and fire clashing together, taking the other out. It’s a fire-bender attacking Katara. I remain quiet as I walk closer to them, leveraging the element of surprise.
The enemy gets the better of Katara, knocking her into a wooden pole. She’s unable to get up and continue fighting.
Every step I take reveals the details of the fire-bender. He grabs Aang, not knowing I’m right behind him.
I’m close enough to hear him now. “You rise with the moon; I rise with the sun.”
I can feel the seconds slow down. I didn’t expect to encounter him like this. Even if I hadn't been home in a while, I always believed I'd see him where I've always known him to be. At home.
I raise my fists and ignite fire-blades. The flame mimics my swords. As much as I wanted to hug him, I couldn’t take my eyes off of his grip on Aang’s collar.
I can’t let him take our last hope to end this terror.
“Put him down, Zuko.”
He turns around to the sound of my voice. His shoulders drop when he meets my familiar gaze. “Y/N?” It’s the first time I’ve seen him since the Agni Kai and how he’s healed since then.
The scar is an accessory to his overall demeanor. He’s bulkier on the shoulders, an obvious sign of his time out at sea. The bags under his eyes heavier than before. Something’s changed, and it’s not just the three years of aging.
“Put him down.” I repeat, any sign of a happy reunion absent on my face.
“You know I can’t do that.” He says, igniting a bubble in my throat. I want to cry; I want to jump into his arms. I want to ask him where he’s been, and who he is now. But his grip on Aang doesn’t loosen, and I know he’s not my Zuko anymore. He’s someone else entirely.
“I don’t want to hurt you.”
“You can’t.” I can hear a pinch of sorrow in his voice. It squashes my heart. His words work to distract me for a split second, and he aims a full of flame kick at me, burning the side of my ribs. I was not expecting that blunt of a force to knock me out, but it did. He knows my weak spots like I know his.
I fall on my back and land close to Katara. The weight of the moment and his first blow proving to be too much for me. I’m unable to get up. I’m not sure what’s holding me close to the ground: the fear of facing him again or letting him take Aang to the Fire Nation.
Zuko vanishes with the young Avatar and it’s just me and Katara, laying on the soft grass, defeated. We look at each other, mirroring the same expression, water begging to escape our eyes.
He knew I wouldn’t be expecting such a strong blow from him. He knew I would take it easy. Just like he should know, I’m a better fighter when I’m angry.
☆
Sokka, Katara, Princess Yue, and I are flying through the skies on Appa trying to look for Aang and Zuko. Where could they have gone?
I’ve been in a silent fury since they found Katara and I in the oasis, sans Aang, and I’m sure Sokka’s noticed by now that I’m in a different state of mind. The wound on my side isn’t getting any easier to manage, and I’m pissed.
I wince from the burn. “Let me help.” Katara offers.
I lay on my back, watching the sky pass Appa by, and let her heal me. She takes this chance to ask a question me. “Y/N, what did Zuko mean by ‘you know I can’t?'” Sokka slightly turns his head, focusing on my answer. “Do you guys know each other?”
I sigh. “Zuko was my best friend.”
“The one from the agni kai?” She asks, remembering my story from Jeong Jeong’s hideout.
“Yes. We grew up together, we were… close.” I take a breath to stop myself from crying. The pain from using my lungs proving to be less hurtful than my reunion with Zuko. I’m not going to spend any more tears on him. I don’t even know him. “Then he left, and I didn’t see him for three years. The Fire Lord banished him… for not fighting back that day.” Sokka faces forward again, clearly bothered by the revelation. “He’s looking for the Avatar, it’s the only way he can come back home.”
As Katara’s gentle hands heal my wounds, Sokka speaks up. “And I thought I couldn’t hate the guy any more than I already do.”
A flashing light dashes across the blue sky and almost inherently, Katara knows who it is. “That’s got to be him!” She points, and Sokka guides Appa in the direction of the shooting star.
From the sky, we find Zuko holding an awakened Aang by his collar and land the air-bison nearby. He drops the twelve year old and gets in his fighting stance. “Here for a rematch?”
I’m the first one to leap, feet landing on the snow. I mirror his position. “You were never much of a match.” I immediately begin an attack on him, making the moon jealous of my power under it. I knock him out of balance, but I’m not the only one with a vendetta.
Katara bends snow to lift him up and pull him down with force, effectively knocking him out of consciousness.
Sokka reaches Aang and cuts him free from the rope. “The spirits are in trouble!” The Avatar warns, “Let’s get back to the oasis.”
Everyone climbs back onto Appa, but before we liftoff, the air-bender speaks up. “We can’t leave him here.”
“Yes, we can. Cmon, let’s go!” Sokka hurries.
“No, we can’t. He’s a person, he’ll die.” Aang looks to me, as if he already knows our history and as much as I dislike it, he’s right. We can’t leave him here. I don’t know who he is anymore and I still wouldn’t let anything like that happen to him.
Aang grabs Zuko, sits him on Appa’s saddle, and hurries off into the sky.
☆
Zuko’s Uncle, Iroh, is holding the dead moon spirit in his hands. Seeing him here with Katara and Sokka is unnerving. But another reunion is put on the back burner. The world is in shades of grey, thanks to Admiral Zhao. We’re too late.
The old man looks at Yue, taking in the color of her hair. “Maybe you can do something. You have been touched by the spirit.”
“I have,” Yue affirms, “It gave me life. Maybe I can give it back.”
She gets up to touch the cream-colored fish, but Sokka’s hesitant. “No!” He grabs onto her arm. “Your father told me to protect you. I can’t let you do this.”
I stand by his side. “It’s true. He told us to make sure nothing happens to you.”
“It’s my duty.” She says in all her regal manner. She lets go of his hand to place her hands on the moon spirit. Instantly, it starts to glow.
Princess Yue faints into Sokka's arm. In a panic, he gently shakes her if she's awake but she’s gone. After a few seconds, her body mystically disappears, and the single fish begins to glow in Iroh’s hands once again.
He places it back into the Oasis Pond and the fish swims, letting us know it’s alive. Letting us know Yue is alive. Suddenly, the fish turns into a swirl of light and rises out of the water.
The spirit floats in front of us, forming into a beautiful Princess in front of us. Yue looks ethereal, glowing in white. I’m speechless.
She holds my cheek with her left hand and Sokka’s with her right, letting us feel her new embodiment. “Thank you, both, for protecting me.”
Then, she fizzles away, leaving an empty space where she once was.
☆
“I’m surprised, Prince Zuko, that you are not trying to capture the Avatar. Is it because of your old friend?” Iroh questions. In the Oasis, he noticed Y/N and her change of heart. She had grown since he last saw her, much like Zuko. It ignited a spark of hope inside him that one day his nephew may follow in her footsteps and bring back honor to the Fire Nation.
“I’m tired.” The prince replies. How long had it been since he had a good night’s sleep? He couldn’t remember.
All he could think about was Y/N and how she so masterfully defeated him. It ached his heart, how much he missed her. Their first time seeing each other in 3 years, and he strikes her on the side. Is this who he was now?
He spent the last few years at sea, looking for the Avatar so he could come home to Y/N. So he could restore his honor and make his father proud.
He thought about this moment every day, and he ruined it. What does she think of him now?
A smile crept up on his face.
Yeah, she’s a better fighter when she’s angry.

ALBEDO has an undeniable lack of human understanding. he stays cooped up at the summit of dragonspine, breathing air in that's sharp and stabs at his lungs with every intake. there's hardly any time for the chief alchemist of the knights of favonius to breach his lack of understanding - there's a much more important job for him to do.
unfortunately this in turn rubs off on you, his beloved partner; he cherishes you, treats you like a fragile gemstone every time he holds onto you as if you're the one made of chalk instead of himself. despite this, he's never been good at showing it. while you stay in the safety - and warmth - of the city of mondstadt, your boyfriend is much more content in the harsh climate that is dragonspine.
you are completely aware of albedo's situation, hell you knew when you dived head first into this relationship with the chalk prince himself but sometimes, just sometimes, the empty feeling would be a bitter taste in your mouth that you were unable to bring up to him. you didn't want him to think it was completely his fault - no, of course not. he'd sat you down and explained everything about rhinedottir, his master.
it's a rare sight for you to be seen venturing close to dragonspine, especially without the permission granted from your overprotective boyfriend but the only present you wanted among the numerous gifts you'd received for your birthday was spend the day with him. you had no choice but to just show up at his tiny camp tucked into the nook of the mountain, sheltered from the winds when you knew that sending a letter would just take too long.
albedo is more than surprised to see you when he returns from a walk and after the initial light scolding is over, his ocean blue eyes sparkling with worry as his gloved hands squeeze your hands tightly, he finally pulls you into his chest to hug you, breathing a short "happy birthday" into your hair.
"bedo," you mumble into his chest, cold fingertips brushing over the details of his clothing layers as he hums in response, encouraging you to continue, "do you love me?"
there's a brief silence that makes you nervous. perhaps this shouldn't have been the day you asked this. suddenly, albedo makes an amused noise - you assumed it to be amused from the crack of a smile that decorates his face as he pulls away to look you in the eye. gloved hands cup your cheeks, a warm touch to combat the bitter cold as he glances over every single detail of your face.
"every star will burn out in the night sky before my love for you dies, darling," he muses, pressing a gentle kiss to the tip of your nose and you feel his warm breath fan over your skin, "perhaps i need to say it more?"
you nod, a sheepish smile cracking on your face as you look away in embarrassment from all your doubts and needs for reassurances. albedo clicks his tongue, his fingers under his chin as he turns your face back towards him and this time, he presses his lips to yours as if washing away your fears.
"my darling sweetheart baby i know, i know the past haunts you i know let me kiss your fears away."
an archon in the disguise as a mere funeral parlour consultant, ZHONGLI has seen his fair share of souls and their unique personalities. he was indeed extremely grateful that you just happened to be one of those souls, beautiful and rich with a kind heart he'd never fail to love.
in his golden eyes that resembled the cor lapis of his country, every inch of you was perfect; beautiful, divine, worthy of worship from the most devoted. he'd never get enough of you, your scent, the way you spoke or the way you laughed. he could hear a million laughs - perhaps he had heard a million laughs, each as different as their owner - but yours was always his favourite.
it was melodic, soothing and could work as a siren's song to him, luring him into the depths of the vast ocean that sat on liyue's doorstep, unexplored yet not untouched. he would jump from the highest cliffs of nantianmen, feeling the breeze in his dark hair for the sake of that cherished laugh. he would pull the sun out from behind the clouds and over the horizon if it meant he could see the way your eyes sparkle in the golden light that basks over you.
zhongli could utter these things to you time and time again, hellbent on the way he feels about you but you'd always brush it off. you knew he was an archon or rather an ex-archon in his words and that he'd always have vast and expressive ways of saying the most simplest things, such was the habit of a man who had roamed teyvat for as long as your boyfriend had.
sometimes, looking in the mirror was too difficult. you wonder if your reflection felt the same when it saw you, eyes traipsing other curve and insecurity of your body that you felt just didn't sit right. maybe it was the way your teeth looked when you smiled too wide or the bridge of your nose or the hip dips you'd place your hands over every day just to see what your body looks like without them distracting your gaze.
warm amber eyes would sit and watch every single time. perched in a bamboo chair you'd tucked into the corner of your shared bedroom, a rich fabric blanket from inazuma draped over the arm of the chair as you stand before the floor length mirror. after too many months of watching your clear unhappiness and seeing you shrug off his devotion, zhongli finally approached you from behind.
your eyes watch the way your boyfriend approaches in the mirror's reflection, dark hands decorated with golden veins brushing against your hips as he holds you in place, his chest pressed to your back. you loved to see him without his gloves around the house, his long coat discarded somewhere else as you admire the way the dark fades as it travels up his arm.
zhongli makes a noise as he follows your gaze to his arms. how come you could love the things about him that he wasn't fond of but not your own special touches? your body had been through a hard life, travelled countless different paths until fate intertwined with his and brought you to him. it was going to be scarred, worn and used as you experienced life. it made you all the much more beautiful to him.
"i know what you're going to say..." you sigh, finally lifting your gaze back to his. he quirks a brow, a little amused that you could read his intentions well.
"do you?" he hums, pressing a kiss to your head as he leans forward, peering at your reflection over your shoulder. you click your tongue, looking away embarrassedly from the experienced man.
"i'm dragging myself down again." you mutter and he nods without a hesitation. his weathered hands squeeze your hips, a warm breath leaving his lips that you feel faintly on the back of your neck.
"i am more than happy to repeat my thoughts to you, dear," he clarifies as you close your eyes, a little too embarrassed to meet his eyes as he speaks in that soft timbre voice, "until you learn to listen to me. i'll kiss every imperfection you claim you have, trace every stretchmark and scar until you learn to love yourself too."
there's a silence except for the bustle of liyue harbour outside of your shared home, the population finally moving past the excitement of lantern rite as the annual holiday comes to an end. your breathing is gentle, relaxed and zhongli feels content with your reaction.
"you know... i've walked teyvat for centuries, experienced countless of events and met individuals beyond anyone's comprehension and yet," zhongli leans to press his cheek against yours, his arms snaking around your waist to hold you closer, "i breathed the same air as you, walked the same streets of liyue harbour as you, shared the same bed as you... and for that i am the most honoured man alive."
artists critique their own work, lingering on every minor detail but to the eye of the beholder, it's a masterpiece, a work of art to be framed and admired for centuries to come. we are those works of art, seen as beauty by everyone but ourselves.
"between seas, galaxies and moons i was lucky i stepped on the same land i dreamed under the same stars as you."

Master chief x reader - for you I’ll do anything
Every since you were a child joining the marines was all you had ever wanted, all you had ever thought about.
Just like your mom. Her dad. His father. His father’s mother.
Your family had been part of the marines for as long as you guys were able to go back through military history.
Your name was known throughout the entire military, from new members to high ranking officers, they all knew your last name.
You quickly rose through the ranks, and you loved every single moment off it, and your ability to combat made you an easy choice when it came to putting people to work with the Spartans.
You were used to working with them, and had grown used to their patterns, growing to accept them as friends even if they kept you at arms reach.
Standing with your hands clasped behind your back, you listened as the admiral talked.
“This is a simple in and out mission, do not make contact unless you have to.” She spoke.
You nodded your head.
“Yes ma’am.”
You walked over to the table in the middle of the room, pulling up a hologram, pointing to one of the paths as you looked to the silver team and their chief.
“We mapped this cave system a few weeks back, but we never found what the covenant were looking for. There’s a small group of them there now, we assume just as guards until their people can come and retrieve it.”
“How do you know where it is then?” Vannak asked.
You flicked through some files and pulled up a short video, playing it for them.
“I was able to place a tracker in one of them, and they’ve been taking the same path every single day.”
You pulled up the map again, highlighting the route that the covenant soldier always took.
“My best guess is that somewhere along where we’ll find what we’re looking for, most likely in this cavern here.”
“What do you need us for Marine?” John asked.
You turned your attention to him.
“I need you guys as a safety net essentially. I can get in and out by myself, there is a short window when they swap their shifts, if something goes wrong I’ll actually the alarm on my vest.”
“So we’re babysitters?” Riz huffed a little.
You knew she wasn’t mad at you, they just didn’t like having to escort people places, or do anything that wasn’t what they were usually trained for.
“If I can get this object, I can bring it back for Miranda to take a look at. We aren’t sure what it is, all we know is that we need to take it out of their hands.”
They nodded their heads.
“We need to leave in an hour, be ready at at the ship.”
You turned away from the group and back to the admiral.
“Are you sure this is worth it?” She asked.
“I’m not entirely sure if I’m honest ma’am, but I am sure whatever this is seems really important to them.”
She nodded her head.
“Bring it straight to me as soon as you get it.”l
“Yes ma’am.”
You left, going down to your office, you pulled your armour on, putting your helmet on and grabbed your gun.
People moved aside as you walked down the hallway, and you heard the heavy metal sounds of the Spartans all falling in line with you.
“Do we have any indication on what this object is?” John asked.
“My guess is I think it may be something they use to create their weapons. Years back a storm swept over the place, buried everything in water, which destroyed the ground’s integrity, and it collapsed. The cave used to be a valley.”
“So a few of their soldiers were in there and got caught, unable to get out, maybe they were carrying something?” Kai asked you.
“Covenant ships have been know to crash there for years, we’re not sure why. But every time one does they go and scrap the ship, whatever is on those ships they want back, I reckon that’s what this is. Maybe a black box of sorts.”
You walked over to the ship, waiting for them to go in first before you went to your own ship.
It was smaller, only enough room for two people and you got everything ready.
“Master Chief, are you patched in to my location?”
“Yes. Ready to follow.”
“Then let’s go.”
It was a long travel to get there, and you had to land a good distance away from them.
Making your way out of your ship, you walked over to the four.
“It’s a straight line from here to there, there’s some large rocks not far from here.”
“We can wait there.”
You nodded your head, leading them to the rocks and they all got in position while you looked at your watch.
It was old, passed down through generations of your family, and you crouched down, waiting for the right time.
“Marine?”
You glanced up at John as he crouched down next to you, taking his helmet off so the others weren’t able to hear what he was saying.
“Are you sure this is worth it?”
“We need to get our hands on whatever it is their after John..” you whispered back.
“If something goes wrong we’ll be too far away to help.”
You sighed.
“Then you get the object back to the admiral.”
“Leave you here?”
You looked up at him.
“They did with my father, it would make no difference if you left me. My father spent months trying to get this, his job is my job now, John please. He died trying to get this.”
John sighed, putting his helmet back on.
“Cortana, is there another place to hide closer to the cave?”
You didn’t hear a response, but John stood up, and you did the same thing.
“There’s a small ditch, just big enough for one of us to fit in. I will hide closer to the cave just in case.”
“Remember the mission, get the object and go.”
He gave a nod of his head, and you both made your way over.
You left him in the ditch, and carried on jogging, making your way towards the cave and you checked the time once more before ducking into the cave.
You didn’t have long at all, so you needed to be in and out.
“Take a right.”
You did as John instructed and came into the cavern, kneeling to the side as you looked around.
“It’s not big, I should be able to carry it out…”
“Bring it out, we’re on standby awaiting orders.”
You crept forward, and you noticed there was two things laying on the floor.
“Guys I’ve got two of these objects, I’m going to bring them both out.”
“Hurry, we’ve noticed movement nearby. Take the first left and run straight.”
“Thanks chief…”
Grabbing the two, you quietly crept back, taking another tunnel to leave while the covenant were coming in.
You knelt at the exit, looking to make sure the coast was clear.
“On my way, get ready.”
You broke out into a dead sprint, praying you wouldn’t get caught along the way, and you jumped down into the ridge, kneeling in front of John.
He knelt over you, using the green on his armour to hide you both.
“They’ve found out it’s missing, they’re sending a group this way, do not move.”
You nodded your head, listening as the alien jets flew overhead, and he placed a large hand on your back.
“Let’s go…” John muttered.
You both broke out into a run again, he was slightly ahead of you as you regrouped with the others.
“Let’s go, I’ll run a scan on these in my ship when we’re safe.”
They joined you, all four of you making your way back to the ships.
“You three go back, we’ll meet you there.” John said.
“Chief?” Riz asked.
“Go, we’ll be right behind. No doubt if they find out we have them they’ll come after us, so I’ll take a different flight path.”
They nodded, you followed John into your ship, securing the objects into two separate holding areas before sitting in the back.
“Let’s go!” You called.
You had to wait for John to clear the atmosphere before you could get up, but the moment he did you were up and inspecting the objects.
He glanced back at you before turning back to the front of the ship.
“Any idea what they are yet?” He asked.
“No, but they seem to react the closer they get to each other.”
“Good or bad?”
“No idea.”
Walking behind his chair, you grabbed your bag and pulled out your father’s notebook, tossing the bag back down so you could look through it.
Walking back to the table you leant over it, eyes scanning over the pages as you flicked through them.
You were looking to see if he had any indication on what these things were.
“Any sign of us being followed?” You asked.
“None yet, either is silver team.”
“Good.”
You turned around, looking at the scans you had taken, and you looked at your father’s notebook.
You turned back to the devices.
Setting your notebook, you grabbed the two objects, holding them apart as you walked to the emergency escape pod.
“We’ve got company!” John called.
“Hold them off!”
You set them carefully on the ground, and walked over, getting a look at where you guys were and you saw a familiar planet under you.
You had been there before, and it was as good of a place as any.
“John keep going until you get back to reach.”
“What?”
He turned to you in confusion.
You slowly backed away from him, giving him a small smile and a salute.
You pressed the button on your vest to open your com.
“It’s been a pleasure working with you all, and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to be paired up with. I’m glad to know my father’ss work wasn’t in vein.”
You stepped into the pod, hearing John trying to get out of his chair but he kept getting stuck on everything.
“(Y/N)!” He snapped.
“They’re bombs, the moment they came into close proximity, AKA when I picked them up, they activated. They’re going to go, and the covenant are going to follow them.”
You could hear them all shouting your name, including the admiral back at reach.
“Catch you on the flip side I guess.”
You slammed your hand into the button just before John could reach you, and you took control of the escape pod.
If you could get it to the ground you could find a place to hide while the bombs went off.
Of course the moment they moved the aliens followed you instead, and you could still hear everybody calling out for you.
You tried to ignore it, getting closer and closer to the ground, alarms were sounding all around you, smoke bellowing up from blow the pod.
Turning around in your chair, you grabbed one of the bombs, opening the door to the escape pod and threw it, then threw the other one.
Closing the door again you rushed back towards your chair to try and gain control over it but you couldn’t.
Bringing your hand back up to your com and pressed it.
“Covenant fleet and the bombs have been disposed off, but I’m hit. I’m going down, I’m not sure where and I doubt I’ll make the crash. This is captain (Y/N) (L/N) signing off.”
The door to pod blew off, and you took your com out, not wanting to hear the voices shouting anymore.
The ground grew closer, and you pulled the handles up, bringing the pod up as it hit the sand and your chair was ripped out along with a whole bunch of other things.
Everything went black, and you weren’t sure for how long you were out for.
When you came too, you undid the straps from your chair, taking a deep breath.
Your body was in shock, you couldn’t feel much pain, but when you stood up your legs were weak and you saw blood coating your uniform.
You walked away from the ruin, getting as far away as you could before your knees gave in, you placed your hands on the ground coughing up some blood.
Pushing yourself up, you took your vest off, and your shirt, leaving you in your undershirt.
Taking a few shaky breaths, you placed a hand on your side, and slowly sat down, looking at the water as it softly rippled against the shore.
It was like all the movies you had seen, the photos of the peaceful beaches.
Sure, reach has some beautiful places, but you absolutely admired this view, and if it was the last thing you saw that was okay.
Taking a few breaths, you pushed yourself up, taking a few steps and you stumbled again, more blood falling from your side.
You slowly stood up again, but you couldn’t, so you stopped trying and just laid there, staring up at the sky.
Your blood stained the sand, and it was in your hair, all over your clothes.
You were sleeping between unconscious and conscious, unable to do anything else to keep yourself alive.
The pain was creeping up on you.
The ground seemed to vibrate, and you put it down to your body shutting down, but the large green suit above you told you otherwise.
You saw the numbers.
117.
“John…”
“(Y/N)!”
He crouched down, looking at your vital signs which were Reading critical.
“I’ve got you.”
He carefully picked you up, running you back to your ship, and he laid you down on the floor.
“(Y/N)?” He called.
“I.. I want.. to go in.. the water…”
John quickly put the ship into autopilot and he made his way back over to you, pulling his helmet off, setting it aside as he pressed one of your shirts to your side.
You always kept spare everything on this ship in case of emergencies.
“I need you to stay awake.”
Your eyes slowly met his.
“Can we.. can we go… in the water…?”
“We are going back to reach, they have a team of medics on standby.”
You took a shaky breath, and a few tears fell from your eyes.
“I don’t… want to.. die…”
“You’re not going to die, but you must stay away.”
You sniffled a little bit.
It was strange for John to see you in such a state, he had never seen you so scared, he had never seen you cry.
He’d seen you angry, he’d seen you happy, but it never crossed his mind that you could actually be scared of something.
“Just stay awake…” he whispered.
You coughed up more blood, and he looked at you with furrowed brows.
John slowly reached out, gently placing his forehead on your, just like you had done for him once when he was seriously injured.
“Stay awake…”
He had to leave you in order to land the ship, but the moment he landed it, he rushed back over to you, but you were immediately taken away from him.
Grabbing his helmet he rushed after you, but was forced into a debrief.
After he spent hours waiting for any news of you, but he kept getting taken away to do other things.
“(L/N) will be fine, but it will take some time for a full recovery.” A doctor said.
John nodded his head, standing up.
“What room?”
“Just down the hall to the left.”
John made his way in, and sat on the chair next to your bed.
Every day he often came to see you, needing to make sure that you were okay, even as a mission took him away for a month, he came back and straight to your room.
You were up, slowly walking up and down the lengths of your room.
“You’re okay.”
You turned to the door and smiled a little bit.
“As good as new, can go back duty in a couple of months.”
He nodded his head, and closed the door.
You sat down on your bed, and he stood there with his arms clasped in front of him.
“When will you be released?”
“In a few days, why?”
He didn’t explain, and a few days later he asked for you to meet him by the Spartan ship, not explaining why even as he took flight.
You recognised the flight path, even as you two landed.
You walked out on to the vast sand.
“John? Why did you bring me here?”
He walked over to you, he wasn’t wearing his suit, just normal gym clothes.
But he did have his weapons on board the ship.
“When you were injured you kept saying you wanted to go into the water.”
He gestured to the water.
“Now you can.”
You smiled at him, walking to the water, taking your shoes and socks off, rolling up your trouser legs and you walked into the cold water.
John walked over, doing the same thing as he stood next to you.
“I saw my dad.”
He furrowed his brows, looking at you.
“When I was dying, and I said I didn’t want to go.”
“You remember.”
You slowly nodded your head.
“I wasn’t saying I didn’t want to go to you. I was saying it to my dad, he wanted me to go with him, but I wasn’t ready. I didn’t want to die.”
“Are you scared of dying?”
“Everybody is, but we all die eventually. But I guess I always thought I’d either die naturally or painlessly at least. I’d never been so close to death. But I was also scared you leaving you behind, you having to lose another person.”
John nodded his head.
You placed a hand on your side.
“I left my ship because even as a Spartan there was no way you’d survive that blast, and there was no point taking us both down.”
“You were protecting me?”
You turned to him, giving him a small smile.
“Of course I was John. Look, we’ve had this on and off thing for a while, but I wasn’t going to let you die because of a mission I insisted on. I would do it again if I had to.”
“But I don’t want you to die.” He said quietly.
“You know I’ll more than likely die before you right?”
John turned to look at you.
“Yes, but that still doesn’t change the fact I don’t want you to die.”
You laughed softly, reaching out to take his hand, placing your other hand on his chest and he stared down at you.
“I’m sorry…”
You closed your eyes, resting your forehead on his chest for a moment before pulling away to look at him.
“Thank you for bringing me back here…”
John brought a hand up, placing it on the side of your face, and he leant down, hesitantly kissing you and you moved your hand to the back of his head to kiss him back.
John pulled away first, and he just looked at you, his eyes boring into yours.
“Will you be okay?”
“Yeah John… I’ll be okay I promise…”
He nodded his head, and you moved to stand in front of him, your hand holding his to your side you had injured, back resting against him as you just looked at the water.
He wasn’t going to pretend he understood your fascination with it, because he didn’t, but you wanted to come here so that’s why he brought you here.
He was still learning about emotions, and what exactly was going on with you two, but he did feel lost when you were stuck in that room, he was so used to you by his side that when you weren’t there he didn’t know what to do with himself.
So, now he was here with you, he was going to memorise this moment because he realised how easily you could go and leave him behind and he wanted something to remember you by

So, Kai and Nya, these two have more to their pre-war backstory then the others largely due to their involvement in the lead up to the war, anyway, unlike in the show, they are twins and emerged from the Well of All Sparks sharing a split spark, for those none transformer fans, a split spark is a concept from the Aligned Continuity, specifically from Transformers Prime where a spark splits in two, creating twins.
Anyway, when they emerged from the Well, they were given the designations K41 and N42 and assigned to word in the Mines of Kaon where it was their job repair malfunctioning and broken mining equipment, during their time there, they learned the intricacies of machinery and befriend one of the miners who went by the designation D16.
The two agreed with D16’s views on Cybertron’s current political environment and how unjust the current system was, you see, Cybertron operated under a class system before the war, and both Kai and Nya were members of the low class. Though they agreed with D16’s views, they did not think it was possible to bring about any change.
Well, over the years, they watched as their superiors abused their power until they eventually witnessed D16 start a revolution when one of their guards executed a fellow worker, the two of them stood by their friend and as a result, were pursued into Kaon’s criminal underworld where they vanished.
So, they spent a bit of time running, and Kai and Nya begun understanding how weaponry worked, eventually, they found jobs at the local gladiatorial arena, and created many different weapons, D16 eventually entered as a combatant in the fights.
Anyway, after they spent years creating all sorts of weaponry and fighting in the arena themselves, a time in which they adopted the new names of Red Shogun and Samurai X, accompanied their friend, D16, now calling himself Megatronus, as his bodyguards during various meetings and rallies he held.
Anyway, skip forward a few years, they would be present alongside their friend, now having shortened his name to Megatron, when he confronted the council of his plans for change, they would gift him their greatest creation before this meeting, a heavily customised Fusion Cannon. Well, the meeting didn’t go well and the war began shortly afterwards with both Kai and Nya siding with their friend.
The two would earn a reputation as being formidable generals of the Decepticons, commanding their legions from Darkmount and lunching assaults on the region of Ninjago, taking control of vast swathes of land including Shintaro, Stix and Ouroboros. Well, about halfway through the war, the two, after a meeting with Garmadon, eventually realised that the Decepticons had fallen far from their original goal and defected to the Autobots, leaving their chief lieutenant, Harumi, to take over.
Upon their defection, they adopted the names Kai and Nya and put their skills as the Elemental Masters of Fire and at the time, Liquid Helium, to use for the side of good. They helped fight The Overlord when he was freed from his prison and helped upgrade the Bounty’s weapon systems. Now, the ninja initially assumed the two had trained under Garmadon due to their ruthless fighting style, you see, Kai and Nya fought as they did as gladiators, using their elemental powers and every dirty trick they knew to win a fight, different to the style used by the Ninja.
Well, when it was revealed that they were former Decepticons, such information revealed by Harumi, some mistrust did emerge, but it was largely Jay, Cole and Garmadon who vouched for them. Anyway, they helped fight The Overlord when he was released from his prison (I’ll explain this whole event in another post) and later fought him on Caminus, they also participated in many other battles with the Ninja.
So, when it comes to their relationships, more so their significant other, Kai and Cole took the longest to admit their feelings for one another, only doing so during their last battle against The Overlord on Caminus as opposed to Jay and Nya who hit off almost right away.
Anyway, a very significant thing to point out is that Kai and Nya are descended from Solus Prime and that Kai inherited the Creation Lathe, allowing to use the power of Creation, this also had the side effect of leaving him with a bunch of Camiens following him around and worship him like he was a holy being. (Will go into depth about this when I cover Harumi).
Anyway, this is the post for Kai and Nya, most character will likely be done covering one at a time, but since Kai and Nya were rarely apart for most of their story, it made sense to cover them both.

Awake
{Master Chief╱Cortana x Reader - One Shot }
{A╱N} hi friends! i wrote this short lil first person pov fic back in October ‘22, but never got around to posting it! i figured i'd finally let it see the light of day because the next chapters of Before the Fever have been taking me so long to finish! i'm still writing my series, have no fear! life outside of here has just been keeping me extremely busy lately and i keep adding and changing chapter 13 around. but it will be out soon! thanks for your patience. 🥹
For backstory: You’re a Spartan on Silver Team who has taken notice of John-117 and Kai-125 removing their hormonal suppressor pellets. Deciding to follow suit, a new experience ensues with a little help from Cortana.
Warnings: None!
i hope you enjoy! ♡
The world seemed to open up before my eyes like a flower blooming in springtime. With the hormonal suppressor pellet removed, everything became so vivid and clear, eliciting sensations and reactions from me in real time at a rate that almost felt alarming. This was not something I was accustomed to, and as I watched the reddened water escape into the drain, I couldn’t wait to figure out just what else The Master Chief and Kai-125 had been experiencing.
Redressing into my undersuit, I paid more attention to the detail of the garments, the thickness of the material, and the way it felt against my skin. For the first time that I could recall, I took the time to look at myself in the mirror, study my own facial features and expressions. The way my hair fell, the color of my eyes. The way my skin looked in the lighting.
It occurred to me then that I’d seen plenty of women wearing enhancements on their faces— makeup from eyes to lips. I’d never worn makeup before, never felt the need or the desire. You didn’t need mascara on the battlefield. But I thought back to 125’s hair, the red streaks she’d embellished her natural honey color with. It was.. cute. Different. Rebellious.
I looked at my own hair, wondering just what I could do with it. My focus, however, kept turning to my face. I thought of a time I’d seen Miranda wear a bold eyeliner, or the red lipstick Admiral Parangosky often wore.
A hand lifted to my cheek as I wondered how I might pull something like that off.
And then I was flooded with an excitement I hadn’t felt before, a giddiness to find out. I wasn’t sure if that was normal, but I let my new surge of emotions lead the way as I crept over toward the common area that Silver Team shared. Looking around, the other Spartans were still sound asleep, but due to be roused soon, I knew.
I held my breath, contemplating. It felt fun to be a little reckless, a little unpredictable. I still felt a pang of indecisiveness as to whether or not I wanted to make my next move, but it was quickly pushed away.
“Cortana,” I hissed quietly.
Nothing.
“Cortana,” I whispered a little louder, still as a statue in the darkness.
John-117 rolled over, and a smattering of blue light appeared.
“You’re up earlier than usual,” Cortana pointed out, and I quickly lifted my finger to my lips.
With a wave of my hand, I beckoned her to follow me back into the showers.
“Not strange at all..” Cortana murmured once we were alone again. “How can I help you?”
I looked straight at her, admiring the technicality of it all. She was only a hologram, a chip implanted into John’s brain, but the advanced nature of her intelligence was awe-inspiring. How had I not noticed that before? That pellet really was something.
Her brow arched, clearly noticing my trance.
“Oh no,” she groaned. “Not you, too.”
“What do you mean?” I finally posed, slightly defensive as I dragged my gaze off of her.
“You’ve removed your pellet. I’d know that starry-eyed look anywhere.”
“Please don’t tell Dr. Halsey,” I nearly pleaded.
We were both still, quiet, for a moment. Then the A.I. smiled.
“Are you looking for an explanation as to what’s happening with you biologically?”
“No.. I— Well, I’m sure it would be helpful but. Really.. I just want…”
Cortana folded her arms over her chest, waiting for me to spit it out. I didn’t realize the hesitance I would feel to ask. Was this what embarrassment felt like?
“Do you know how to use makeup?” I asked, my face twisting into a soft cringe at my own question.
“Never needed it,” Cortana quipped playfully, pride written on her features. “But I can certainly find some information for you. The UNSC doesn’t exactly provide cosmetic pro—“
But I cut her short, holding my hand up and disappearing back into the area I’d taken her out of. When I returned, I held up a small bag, emptying its contents onto the sink as quietly as possible.
“Where did that come from?” She asked, stepping up beside me in the mirror.
“Confiscated it. It piqued what little curiosity I had then already.. So I kept it.”
“Like John and Kai, you’ve always been a little more in tune with yourself,” she smiled.
I offered the smallest, politest smile I could manage in return, not exactly knowing how to respond to her comment. I felt brand new to the world and its social cues, and I hoped she’d understand. Picking up a small tube and a long thin pen, I looked to the A.I. for any kind of direction, confusion on my features then.
“Anything?” I lilted quietly.
Cortana nodded, beginning to explain the various methods used, the varieties of styles and all of the combinations possible. She rattled off as though she were reading from some kind of textbook, and I rummaged through all of the products I had in hopes of figuring it out as she helped me along.
⁂
“I’m impressed,” Cortana expressed, looking at me in the mirror, her hands on her hips. “You seem to have a natural knack for this sort of thing.”
“Do you think it’s too much?” I asked, suddenly worried about what the others might say or think once they saw me. “Maybe I should take it off..”
“I think you look great! But what you’re experiencing is anxiety. You Spartans tend to do that a lot when your pellets are removed,” she added. “It’s a natural biochemical response to a new experience.”
I heard the familiar sound of my teammates rising for the day, knowing they’d be in at any moment, another feeling of what seemed to be dread coursed through me.
“You should go before he notices you’re not completely in his head,” I whispered, my eyes landing on hers through the mirror. “Thank you, Cortana.”
“Always here to help,” she chirped, her usual bright and clear voice a whisper, too.
A strange warm feeling washed over me, and I felt an urge to really solidify my thanks to her. I’d seen people hug, pat others on the back. I knew it was impossible to touch her, but I let my smile do the talking for me as she disappeared once more.
Quickly pulling my hair into a low bun, I let two strands on either side fall along my face. It wasn’t painted with gun grease like 125’s, but it would do.
Still feeling nervous, I looked over myself once more as I heard footsteps drawing near. My eyes were darkened with eyeliner, eyeshadow and mascara. Cortana had walked me through the basics, and we both decided the eyeliner should be of the winged persuasion to compliment what she’d described to me as a ‘smoky-eye look’ with the shadow. It took most of my time to execute perfectly on each eye, and I was just glad the rest of my face hadn’t been so complicated to complete. My favorite part was the red lipstick. It was by far the easiest.
It felt like a different person was staring back at me, someone a little more elevated. I hadn’t realized how much fun it could be. In fact, I hadn’t realized what fun was at all until now. From the eyes to what she’d read as ‘contouring,’ to the lips, it was a brand new sensation, and I had a great time doing it.
I suddenly felt a little sentimental, or what I assumed sentimental was, as I wondered how a person’s first experience with makeup should’ve gone. No matter the answer to that question, I’d always treasure mine with Cortana.
But I quickly snapped out of it, bowing my head and rushing right out past the others as they walked in. Thankfully no one paid any attention as I did so, too focused on preparing themselves for the day ahead. I just needed a little more time to get used to it myself before I had to answer any of their questions.
“Silver Team,” John finally commanded, and instinctually, I walked over toward him, the others following suit. We stood in a line at attention, waiting for the briefing we knew was to follow.
But before The Master Chief could begin, his eyes fell on my features, and my jaw tightened.
“124,” he voiced, his tone sounding vaguely strained, “What is on your face?”
Kai looked over at me then, and I could see her crack a smile in my peripheral vision. “Hey, you look good.”
I didn’t respond to either of them, and this was clearly an alert to John.
With an exhale, he dismissed the others before even beginning his briefing, leaving me standing at attention in front of him.
“At ease, Spartan,” he told me, and I hesitantly relaxed. “What’s going on? Your hair isn’t back like it’s supposed to be— you’re wearing…”
“Makeup, Master Chief,” Cortana chimed in as she reappeared. “She’s wearing makeup. Doesn’t she look great?”
She sounded full of pride, probably because of all the help she’d put into me.
“You’ve been holding out on me,” I finally said, unable to help my smirk.
He automatically knew.
“How many more Spartans do we need with a lapse in judgment? This doesn’t bode well against The Covenant, we’re lucky 125 is even here.”
“It’s just a little makeup, Chief,” I assured, though my tone was soft, almost hurt.
“It’s distracting,” he responded. “Halsey won’t look past that.”
“Don’t be so hard on her,” Cortana spoke, a smug expression on her countenance. “I can see your heart rate, you know.”
There was a faint scowl on his features as he looked in her direction, and I heard Kai snort a laugh in the distance.
“Going!” She quipped before disappearing again.
“Maybe I’m just distracting you, then.”
“Watch it, 124,” he warned, but the stern look on his face got my heart pumping as well. “Or I’ll ground you on the next mission, too.”
I was defeated then, not expecting such a dramatic response given his blatant disregard to Kai’s red hair. I supposed he trusted her more, liked her better— something. Hanging my shoulders, I nodded with an inaudible sigh. At least he didn’t request I replace the pellet.
“I’ll take it off,” I capitulated, turning on my heel to make my way toward the bathroom again.
“{Y/N},” he finally said, and I turned back at attention.
“You don’t have to take it off,” he surrendered. “Just watch yourself around Halsey. If she gets wind that her Spartans are awake, there’s no telling what lengths she’ll go to to fix that. You can’t let it get in the way of the objective. Our job is far from over.”
A small amount of pep returned to my step.
“Copy that,” I responded, but it was said more like a promise.
“And.. you look amazing. You looked great before, too.”
My cheeks filled with red beneath the light dusting of blush I’d applied, my smile going wider than I expected it to.
“Thanks, Chief. It means a lot.”
He nodded once.
“Don’t let it get to your head. We still need you crisp and clear on the battlefield.”
I stepped up beside him, hanging my arm over his broad shoulder, leaning my head against it with a grin. The natural reaction was strange, the contact and urge to joke around even stranger.
“I think you’re the one we need to worry about in this case.”
He shifted to face me, and I looked right back at him.
“I can already tell you’re going to be an issue,” he smiled.
“Always been my problem,” I responded through my own grin.

5 comfort characters 5 tags
Tagged by the ever-awesome @sarnakhwritesthings Thanks so much! 😎💖
Hm, I had to figure out how to interpret “comfort character” because, darn it, I have a lot of blorbos crammed into this fangirl heart of mine (I swear, my fangirl heart looks like an absolute CLOWN CAR in more ways than one 😂😉). So let’s go with 5 characters who give me great comfort whenever I write/vid/otherwise think of them. I’ll restrict it to one per fandom to make it interesting. 😛
In alphabetical order because you cannot rank the clowns in a clown car. You just CANNOT. 🤷♀️😇
1. Eobard Thawne (The Flash)
Both of them, of course. Because I love mah Murder Boi(s), I truly do. 💖💖 I’ve vidded and written them both A LOT.
2. Master Chief John-117 x Cortana (Halo), Master Chief John-117 x Kai-125 (Halo the series)
What? Halo is one fandom with two facets, the video game and the tv series, so I felt free to, you know, shout-out my ships from both of them. C’mon, you know I LOVE MY SHIPS, Y’ALL. Ahem. 😛😇 I’ve written and vidded tv!Chief several times but have only vidded game!Chief a couple of times at this point.
3. Noble Team (Halo: Reach)
What? I love the entire team. *innocent face* 😇😇😇 And I had to include the second GIF because Jorge isn’t in the first one because he and Sara were out getting ice cream on their first date, d’aww! THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED. DO NOT SPEAK TO ME OF ANYTHING ELSE. *nodnods in utter denial* 😉 I’ve vidded Noble Team once and have a fic in progress.
4. Sara Ryder x Reyes Vidal (Mass Effect: Andromeda)
Oh, look, Reyes wandered in to join Sara on her place on this list. Wonder how that happened? No idea... *whistles innocently* 😍😉 I’ve vidded them once.
5. The Tenth Doctor x Donna Noble (Doctor Who)
They will not only always have a place in my heart just because I love them, but writing fanfic for them broke me out of a 6 year long streak of complete writer’s block and I’ll forever be grateful for that. 🤗 I’ve written and vidded them several times. 🤗
No pressure, only if you’d like to do this tagging the last lucky 5 mutuals in my notifications 🤷♀️😉 @sporadicbelievernightmare @emmaswanned @ghostslillady @starstruckpurpledragon @take2intotheshower

12. "Let's play cards, winner gets..."
In the less-than-glamorous bowels of the UNSC's latest "home away from home," a motley crew of Spartan super-soldiers hunched over a rickety table that had seen better days. The flickering overhead lights cast an almost comical glow on the proceedings, making the stack of MREs in the center of the table seem like a treasure trove worthy of a pirate king. This was no ordinary game night—it was poker night, and the prize? None other than Master Chief Petty Officer John-117's stash of rations.
John, the man, the myth, the legend, shuffled the deck with the kind of seriousness you'd expect from someone defusing a bomb, not playing cards. His stoic expression could have fooled anyone into thinking he was plotting the next big offensive against the Covenant. Sitting across from him, Fred-104, Blue Team's de facto leader when John wasn't around, eyed the deck with suspicion, probably wondering if those hands of steel could finesse a shuffle or just snap the cards in two.
To John's right, Vannak-134, the strong, silent type, cracked a rare smile, his eyes twinkling with the kind of light-heartedness you wouldn't expect from a guy who could bench press a Warthog. Beside him, Kai-125 was the picture of cheeky confidence, her smirk suggesting she had a few tricks up her sleeve—or maybe she was just happy to be there, hard to tell with Spartans.
Riz-028, rounding out Silver Team, was the embodiment of focus. If there were an Olympic medal for intense card-playing concentration, she'd have taken gold, no contest. Her eyes darted from player to player, as if trying to x-ray their cards—or their brains.
The game itself was a slow burn, each hand dealt with the kind of gravitas usually reserved for high-stakes diplomacy or interstellar negotiations. Bets were placed with a mix of Spartan rations and bravado, the currency of choice in these parts.
"Alright, fellas," John's voice cut through the tension like a knife through butter. "Last hand. Let's see if anyone can pry my precious rations from my cold, dead hands."
Kai snorted, throwing her cards down with a flourish. "John, you might be the Master Chief, but you're not the master of poker. Watch and learn."
Fred leaned back, stretching his arms as if preparing for physical combat rather than a card game. "You know, I've seen Grunts with better poker faces than some of you. Let's wrap this up before our esteemed leader here starves."
The final showdown was more akin to a circus act than a game of poker. Cards were slapped down with theatrical flair, accompanied by a running commentary of taunts and jibes. When the dust settled, it was John, with his unflappable demeanor and a hand that would make a Vegas shark weep, who came out on top.
Fred shook his head, chuckling as he collected the cards. "Well, folks, looks like John's rations live to see another day. I swear, you've got more luck than a leprechaun."
John cracked one of his rare, almost-there smiles, the corners of his mouth twitching upwards. "Thanks for the game, everyone. And don't worry, my rations are always up for grabs. Same time next week?"
The laughter that followed were the true prizes of the evening. In the world of Spartans, where life and death hung in the balance, these moments of absurdity were their own kind of victory, a reminder that beneath the augmentations, they were still human. Well, superhuman, but who's counting?
That's on me for putting a game of chance in John's lap. My bad, everybody.
This was a ton of fun. Nice to see the dorks getting to be such dorks. Great work!

Makes sense that the extrovert married chose the introvert.
John: Removes his pellet. Turns into a contemplative, observant, somewhat melancholy people watcher who evidently has a thing for classical music and dogs.
Kai: Removes her pellet. Turns into an outgoing girl geek, colors her hair, and has a sisterly girl talk bonding session with Miranda.

Master chief x reader - a lifetime ago
Would you be able to do another Master Chief (John-117) x reader with this “I don’t remember you… I’m sorry…” “that’s alright, how about we start again, from square one?” prompt from your 2024 prompt list? Seems pretty fitting for him. (づ˶•༝•˶)づ♡ - Anon💜
Jogging down the hallway, you made your way to the office you were called to and knocked on the door before entering.
“Miranda? Is everything alright?”
“Oh, yes. Sorry I didn’t mean to worry you.”
You nodded your head, walking over and you clasped your hands behind your back as you stood next to her.
“The Spartans ship was damaged on their last mission, I was wondering if maybe you could rush the fixes for me?”
“Do you have the details of the damage, I’ll let you know if it’s something I can do or if we need to wait.”
“Yeah, yeah of course. Thank you so much for this honestly I know you’ve just finished your shift but it’s stressing Riz and Vennik out that it’s in such a bad state.”
“Yeah, I’ve had those two before about the damage of the suits or weapons. They need to know everything is in working order.”
You looked at the wall as she pulled up the schematics of the ship, highlighting the damaged areas.
Walking over to the table you read through the very detailed damage reports, the extent of the damage, how it was caused, measurements and everything you needed to know.
She showed you footage from the Spartan’s helmets when they landed back on reach.
“Is it something you can fix?”
“I think so, I’ll have to see it for myself just to check.”
“I’ll take you, I think John and Kai might still be there.”
You nodded, following behind her back down the hallways.
“This isn’t usually your task Miranda, why are you doing it?”
“Well, since I’m now currently in charge of the Spartan programme I have to deal with everything related. You’re the best engineer I know in this whole place.”
“Ouch, so we’re only friends for my skills?”
“Isn’t that why you’re friends with me?”
You smirked a little.
“I’m bound to hit my head a few times.”
She laughed a little, heading into the hanger with you close behind, and she took you to the ship.
The two Spartans she mentioned were inside the ship talking to one another.
“The outside is a priority right now.”
Miranda took you to the right side, explaining all the damage, then the front, then the back.
“There is some on the top as well, John had to break one of the doors on the inside, due to all the damage the systems began to fail.”
“I’ll have to run some diagnostics, but I can fix the outside now, it’ll take a couple of days, would they have another ship they could use in the meantime in case?”
“We do. However we need this one up and running as soon as possible.”
You turned around, saluting him before clasping your hands behind your back.
“While I’m fixing the external damage I’ll run the diagnostics at the same time, once I’ve found the damages to the inside I can get your systems up and running, then work on your internal repairs.”
He gave a nod.
“I’ll be watching you.”
“I understand, that’s fine.”
You turned back to your friend.
“I’ll get started now, I’ve got nothing else to do, my team can handle the other repairs that people wanted done. I’ll keep you updated.”
“Thank you so much.”
She turned around to the Spartan behind you.
“John, please make sure she takes breaks, eats and rests, she will just work through it for days.”
“I will.”
With that she left, and you looked to John.
“I need to head back to my office to grab some things, would you be able to help?”
He nodded, and you took him to your office.
“I’ll need that toolbox.”
You grabbed a bag and picked it up, then held the door open for John before trailing after him.
“Parker’s?”
The man looked over.
“I need that whole unit of scrap, the damaged parts from the Spartans ships over the time, and all the new parts we have as well.”
“I’ll bring them over now.”
“Thanks.”
You made your way back to ship, bringing a few things over so you could reach the damage on the top first.
Taking your uniform jacket, you tossed it behind you, tucking your vest into your trousers.
John was stood there carefully watching you, looking at the tattoos going up your left arm, a few scars littered about your arms.
There was something about you, your face, that felt so oddly familiar but he knew for a fact he had never seen you around.
He had never crossed paths with you.
“You know a photo would last longer.”
John furrowed his brows a little bit.
“What?”
You laughed a little but, looking up at him as you grinned.
“It’s a saying, it’s old, but it basically means that someone knows when you’re staring. Like you’re trying to take a photo with your mind.”
“I see. I have never heard that before.”
“You can use it to be sarcastic too, if somebody you don’t like is staring at you you can say that to them, it gets them all annoyed.”
John furrowed his brows.
“Does this mean you don’t like me? I don’t particularly understand.”
“No chief, it doesn’t mean I don’t like you. I just felt awkward with you staring at me.”
He nodded his head.
“If I make a cut into this metal can you bend it back towards you?”
“Yes.”
John walked over to help.
You would hold small conversations with him from time to time while working, and he kept a close eye on the time.
When it came to dinner he had Riz come through with some food.
“(Y/N) you need to eat.”
“I’m nearly done with this bit.”
“I was told to ensure you eat on a regular basis and take breaks. You have been working for four hours.”
You shrugged a little bit, flicking the welding mask up.
“It’s fine, just set it down there somewhere please.”
“Your vital signs are showing that you need to eat, and drink some water.”
“Oh we’re monitoring vitals now? I don’t know if that’s creepy or cute.”
He furrowed his brows in confusion and you laughed at him, flicking your visor back down.
“I’ll come down later.”
John stood there a little confused.
He wasn’t sure what to do, so he walked over to the intercom to ask Miranda what he should do since you wouldn’t come down.
After a few minutes he mad his way up, and he waited for you to set the welding gun down, then he walked over.
Placing his hands on your arms he picked you up.
“Usually I’m all for people picking me up John but this is a little out of context.”
“I have been given permission to use any means available to get you to take breaks and eat.”
He turned around, setting you on the ground and then he crossed his arms.
“Oh okay big guy, you gonna block me huh?”
You smirked a little, the ran to the right, before quickly changing to the left, and he caught you, placing you back where the ladders down were.
“You have strength and speed, I have agility on my side, and the power of caffeine.”
You tried to run again, but he just grabbed the back of your protective suit, and you dropped, just hanging there.
“Son of bitch. Come on Chief, just let me finish this task.”
“Take your break.”
You sighed, raising your hands and nodded.
John let you go and made sure you went back to the ground before following you, making sure you were going to eat.
John was a huge help when it came to fixing the damages.
He made sure you were taking regular breaks then late at night he made sure you were heading back to your quarters for the night.
What John didn’t know is that you would sneak back to carry on working later on into the night.
He thought after two days when he caught you napping inside the ship it wasn’t hard to figure out that you were still working.
John stood there, a little unsure what to do.
He just draped your jacket over you, tidying the mess of papers and tools all around you and went to do some of his own work nearby while he waited.
After an hour he went back over, and he noticed you had moved, things falling out the pockets of your jacket.
He picked them up to set them aside and he noticed the sketch.
As an engineer you had the skills necessary in order to draw, what he wasn’t expecting was the see the young boy he saw in his visions.
He titled his head a little.
“I don’t know what happened to him.”
You slowly sat up, putting your jacket back on and put everything else back into your pockets.
“I carry it around with me so I don’t forget him, because nobody should be forgotten.”
“Who did you know him?”
“He was my best friend, we used to do everything together. His name was John. My mom and dad told me he died.”
John slowly nodded his head, handing you the sketch back.
“Do you kiss him?”
“Everyday, I never forgot a single memory I made with him.”
You gave John a sad smile and stood up, stretching a little.
“He didn’t die.”
You snapped your gaze to him.
“What?”
“I believe that I am that boy, I see him in my visions. I think that is me.”
You studied him for a moment.
“No…”
You jogged away, heading straight Miranda, slamming the sketch on the table.
“Is he John? Master chief?”
She looked at him, and looked at you.
“We have no files on record that go that far back (Y/N), but yes, from what we know that’s him. How do you know.”
The door opened and you turned around.
“You knew me back then? What was I like?”
“What?”
He sighed, looking down at the ground before looking back at you.
“Do you know me? Remember me?”
John shook his head.
“I don’t remember you… I’m sorry…”
You nodded, but you smiled regardless.
Walking over you held your hand out to him.
“That’s alright, how about we start again, from square one?”
“Will you tell me what you remember?”
“I’ll tell you everything I know.”
John nodded, and he shook you hand, both of your formally introducing yourselves to one another.
Friends from what was a lifetime ago for John, and maybe you held the missing links he needed to remember things, but there was an odd comfort in knowing he wasn’t lost.
He wasn’t forgotten.
He was always remembered
