And, appropriately enough with this morning’s weather, today’s mascot is #ICEEBear of @official_icee_co! #ICEE is the original Italian ice drink, predating @7eleven’s #Slurpee, and was invented by a @dairyqueen owner in @coffeyvillekansas! (#Kansas Represent!) The Polar Bear Mascot always brings to mind our weekly trips to @kmart back in the 1970s. It’s Day 30 of #mascotmarch2022, and today’s Icon is Bartholomew Richard Fitzgerald-Smythe, aka #MrPeanut of #plantersnuts! The original mascot was designed by schoolboy Antonio Gentile back in 1919, and has been eponymous with the brand ever since. In 2006, Planters had a contest to determine whether to add a bowtie, cufflinks, or a pocket watch to the character. It was decided to leave him as is, though I’ve given him the bowtie and cuff links in this version. It’s day 29 of #MascotMarch2022, #And today’s chosen mascot is the @dunkaroos kangaroo! There has actually been two kangaroos: Sydney and Duncan. Honestly and truly, I’m not sure this kangaroo is either one of them. With the activity and the purple, I’m leaning toward Duncan. Since the stop-motion sensation premiered in 1965, he’s appeared in commercials not only for #Pillsbury Products, but also for @geico, @gotmilk, & #sprint (now @tmobile), and even cameoed in the #puppetoon movie! Day 25 of #mascotmarch2022 brings us #Quiky the @nestlequikrabbit (here with his predecessor #farfel)! @nestle started #quik back in 1948, and Quiky bunny hopped into our hearts & tv screens in 1973. Before that @nesquikusa was promoted by Farfel the Dog, a #ventpuppet run by #ventriloquist Jimmy Nelson from 1953-65. Nelson actually created Farfel back in 1950 at a nightclub in my hometown of #wichitakansas! (I’m trying to determine the name of the nightclub). Day 22 of #mascotmarch2022 gives us “Mr Owl”, the star of possibly the longest running commercial on the list, @tootsieroll Pops! In constant rotation (in one edit or another) since 1970, #MrOwl was originally joined in answering the “ultimate question” by Messrs. Day 20 of #mascotmarch2022 brings us the grandfather of corporate icons, #Bibendum the @michelin man! Originally introduced back in 1894(!), his name comes from the slogan “Nunc est Bibendum,“ from the poet Horace’s odes. In English it means “Time to drink“. He’s also a renowned food critic, and was named “Icon of the Millennium” in 2018! Day 18 of #mascotmarch2022 brings us that hard-bitten crime fighter #McGruffTheCrimeDog! @mcgruff_ncpc is the iconic spokes-pup for the #nationalcrimepreventioncouncil, and since 1980 has been educating citizens on personal security measures, such as locking doors and putting lights on timers, in order to reduce crime.
