From 2003 until its revival in 2013, WWE would hold a competition called the WWE Diva Search. The goal for this contest was to find a new Diva to add to the roster . However , the inaugural winner of the Diva Search would not a get contract with WWE , she would get a featured photo shoot in WWE Magazine. Later Diva Search winners would get prizes such as $250,000 cash and a WWE contract. The Diva Search would take a hiatus after the 2007 competition and come back in 2013 , therefore , it was not televised. The 2013 Diva Search winner would be signed to WWE and be a cast member of the show , ‘ Total Divas ’ , which focused on the lives of the WWE Divas at the time.

2003 - Jaime Koeppe

2004 - Christy Hemme

2005- Ashley Massaro

2006- Layla El

2007 - Eve Torries

2013 - Eva Marie

Notable names would come from the Diva Search too. Michelle McCool , Maria Kanellis, and Candice Michelle would be contestants in the 2004 Diva Search. Kristal Marshall would participate in the 2005 Diva Search. Maryse Ouellett, Brie and Nikki Garcia aka The Bella Twins , Brooke Adams, and Rosa Mendes would participate in the 2006 Diva Search. Thus , The Bella Twins would be the first contestants from the competition to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Lena Yada and Velvet Sky would participate in the 2007 Diva Search. Jojo Offerman , Lana , and Alexa Bliss would be participants in the 2013 Diva Search. Offerman would also be cast on ‘ Total Divas ’. Lana would go on to become a manager and a wrestler . Alexa Bliss would go on to become a Mutli-time WWE Women’s Champion.

In 2015 , during WrestleMania 31 , WWE would announce the revival of the Diva Search , however , there would be no information about it . In 2016, WWE would take a fan survey about what shows they wanted to see ok the WWE Network , including a revival of the Diva Search, however , it would have a new name , ‘ WWE Superstar Search ’. The show would’ve been hosted by Hall of Famers , Lita and Trish Stratus. On January 25,2019 WWE would announce a revival of the search as a competition show to give contestants a chance to show their athleticism, thus , plans for it were scrapped.

As of 2021 , Maryse is the only contestant from the search to stay signed with WWE. She would go on to become the first two time and longest reigning Divas Champion after the 2006 Diva Search. She would also meet her husband , The Miz , through the competition.

My Final Thoughts:

The Diva Search will forever be a part of the history of women’s wrestling in the WWE . Some of the challenges in the competition were risqué, however , the fans would vote for the winners. Women’s Wrestling in WWE has came so far from competitions like this . In my honest opinion, if something like this were to happen today, I think the competition would allow the future Superstars to show off what they can do in the ring and athletically. - Kay
