The Professionals (1966)

My rating: 6/10

This feels like a very deliberate rebuttal of the then-nascent spaghetti western - for most of the movie, everybody is morally grey, intensely jaded and cynical, and ever so swarthy (Claudia Cardinale is there), but then at the last minute they decide that actually they would like to Do The Right Thing and then ride into the sunset to vaguely Bernstein-esque fanfare - and I think the movie suffers for it, because it seems more interested in making that point than in telling an interesting story. A shame, given the cast and the rather promising first act.

THE PROFESSIONALS (1966) Grade: B-

Would be a cool re-make now or possibly an updated version. #BurtLancaster was great with #LeeMarvin. Good plot with a decent twist. Fun action movie. Shocked it's not brought up more for the great westerns. Definitely on the darker side and 3 years before "The Wild Bunch".
