Unfortunately, "The Jasmine Dragon" includes Li, the owner's grumpy nephew with an outrageously bad haircut and a wardrobe that's solely green, who knows way too much about the Avatar and his teachers, and who swears on his honor that he's totally, definitely not the Fire Lord.

Somehow, the other tea servers don't believe him. But they've never gotten a chance to prove it (or disprove it, in some cases) until now.

The Jasmine Dragon is going to the Fire Nation, and Hua Ming is going to show once and for all that shop-famous enigma Li is Lord Zuko himself, or she's going to die trying.

Part 1 of a little bit of monicker in my life (Zuko has too many secret identi-teas)

After a few agonizingly slow seconds of exhausted, confused pondering, Zuko decided there was only one logical conclusion. “You’re right," he told the assassins, "I’m here to help you kill the Fire Lord.” Like a genius.

Caldera City is holding a festival to celebrate finally having enough funds to hold a festival! Although Zuko originally deemed himself too busy to go, Sokka managed to cajol him into attending his own party, in a knock-off Blue Spirit disguise for security purposes. Zuko sneaks back into the palace right in time to catch a group of assassins sneaking out. They failed to find the Fire Lord and assume he's reinforcements.

Zuko needs to find who ordered a strike on him before they do something stupid, like order a second one. Obviously, the most reasonable thing to do is join the assassins and hope they don’t figure out who he actually is. Obviously. There’s literally no other option.

Feat. Zuko's only two coping mechanisms (mortal peril and improv theater), the world's most incompetent hit team, and another knock-off Blue Spirit who's determined to prove this "Li" isn't who he says he is.

Part 2 of a little bit of monicker in my life (Zuko has too many secret identi-teas)

Zuko just wanted to take a breather after a stressful political summit in the Earth Kingdom. Unfortunately, some passerby with good eyesight spotted him entering an apartment through the door as Li and leaving through the window as the Blue Spirit, right before he left for the Fire Nation. The Earth Kingdom puts two and two together and, appropriately, gets four: the Blue Spirit has kidnapped Li, and presumably the other Fire Nation refugees who have been disappearing across Ba Sing Se. They must save Li and bring the Blue Spirit to justice!

Unwilling to reveal himself as either the Blue Spirit, wanted in both the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom for treason and petty larceny, or Li, who'll draw attention to his uncle's teahouse, Zuko does the next most reasonable thing: he panics.

Meanwhile, Mai, Suki, and Toph are busy investigating who's really at fault for the disappearances of these refugees, King Kuei has realized he can get away with some truly ridiculous antics as king, and the newspapers are getting suspicious of how protective Fire Lord Zuko is of these two random people he apparently picked up in Ba Sing Se. What's up with that, anyway?

Considering how many of the Bats and the Birds have died and come back to life, it was only a matter of time for some people interested in the afterlife to come poking around. The detectives can't seem to uncover any information about the mysterious white vans, however.

And they keep losing the mysterious boy who seems to be the one person in Gotham to know anything at all.

Slipping this in before the year ticks over - Happy New Year, everyone! All Batman fics (including three crossovers with MCU Spiderman and Leverage), I had a lot of downtime to read while I was sick in November and it was time for the annual binge, so I read my way through a lot of @cacchieressa's recs (thanks for having great taste!) plus wandered into some of my own finds. Gotcha, Bug by Mgootd - AU where Jason survives Ethopia, but Tim's parents start behaving strangely and Tim's investigation throws him in with the Batfamily anyway. Crazy fun ride.

Once Upon A Kidnap Dreary by PlotlessWanderer - AU in which Tim and Jason get kidnapped together for ransom - but their parents react very differently.

A Bat and a Reporter Break Into a Warehouse by @hmslusitania - delightful romp where Tim and Lois team up for an investigation.

Jason, Take the Wheel by Miss_Lazy_Tuesday - "Jason finds a new coping mechanism post-resurrection, and it changes a few things." A++ Jason using his insane level of training to be an epic troll. Incredibly funny, but also so healing.

Dead Robins Stick Together by HermesDay - "Tim finds himself trapped in a universe where the Red Hood decided to finish the job in Titans Tower." OOF. On the very opposite tonal end of Jason-returns AUs from the last one, but a really good engaging read.

Penelophon by Telperien - Selina/Bruce through the years, with a lovely Selina POV.

We'll Have to Muddle Through Somehow by @pluckyredhead - soft, thoughtful Roy/Jason where Roy is struggling with the holiday season and Jason is there for him.

Blue Jay Down by byrambles - "8 years after his parents died and he escaped Gotham's foster system, Dick is just trying to survive. When he stumbles upon an injured, blue-clad vigilante child in an alley, though, he has to make some decisions." This one hit my id so hard, I wish there were 30K more words but these were all good.

(MCU Spider-Man/Batman) Set Naked On Your Kingdom by sassydandelion - "At the end of No Way Home, Peter chooses to sacrifice his life in New York to save the multi-verse…by letting Dr. Strange send him to a world where no one has ever heard of Spider-Man. What kind of crazy place is this Gotham City, anyway?" Fantastic AU, and Peter is just such a darling as he struggles to get by. Loved how he meets and bonds with Barbara (who is always amazing) first.

(Leverage/Batman) sparring match by Ffwydriad - in which Eliot runs into Cassandra on a team job, and they have a past. Thoughtful look at their difficult histories, but still very gentle and kind.

(Leverage/Batman) The Cross Purposes Job by solomonara - "A con on the verge of success gets sniped by an unknown third party. The Leverage crew traces the interference back to Gotham. Now the con has a new target: shady billionaire Bruce Wayne and the highly suspicious Wayne Enterprises." COMPLETELY DELIGHTFUL, such good team presence and misunderstandings on both sides, and the resolution is so satisfying.

idk if you've heard of the new ultimate universe (mostly unrelated to the original one), but ultimates #1 (the avengers-aligned title) came out yesterday, and it features a teenage tony with daddy issues, a freshly-defrosted steve with a revolutionary streak, and a bit of longing/envy for earth-616 as "what they could've/should've been"

it's a very new universe (there's been less than 20 cumulative issue published so far), so you can easily read everything (i have a reading order here), but if you only want steve and tony's story, it's just ultimate invasion #1-4 > ultimate universe #1 > the ultimates #1 > the second story in 'free comic book day 2024: ultimate universe/spider-man' (though this one was more of a sneak peek and might be set after/during a later ultimates issue, it's the obligatory confusing one lol)

Thank you so much for the rec and reading orders! 💕 I am in fact back on my superhero bullshit since Free Comic Book Day (though for me that's mostly just involved acquiring an armful of completely random issues of various things, and rewatching Avengers Assemble episodes). I probably even saw that ultimate comic at my local comic shop on that day, but ignored it due to my unwarranted bias against anything related to the Ultimates 😅 But maybe I'll go back and give it a fairer shake.

My heart absolutely yearns to revive this blog, but I still feel like I don't have anything worthy of posting yet.
