2024 Fic Writer End of Year Roundup

Answer and then tag three or more creators to keep the game going!

Oh, this has taken me some time. Thank you to everyone who's tagged me in their roundups, it has really warmed this shadowed, linty heart of mine ❤️

1. How many words did you publish on AO3 in 2024?

100,802!! I found out juust before the new year that I was missing 6000 words from a 100 000, and as luck would have it, I had a chapter for my secret santa fic that was just that long. Marvelous @neciebee stepped up as beta to help me finish it in time.

2. How many fics did you complete this year?

“Completed” is a bit of a complicated term, because technically it’s four, but I have continuations in the works for a couple.

3. How many in progress or ongoing fics did you start this year?

On Ao3 it looks like I only have the one in progress that was started this year (WWUitS was started on the tail end of 2023), but I have four more docs that I’ve worked on from time to time.

4. What was your favorite thing you wrote?

Autumn Winds Across the Sea continues to be my favorite in its entirety. An old poet took over my fingers while I wrote that. But there are also parts of Words We Use in the Shadows that I’m really proud of and happy with. For instance the poem-turned-song, and the confrontation and ensuing angst, but also the literary references throughout. Thanks to it its patron saint Marcel Proust ❤️

5. What piece was your most experimental or different from your usual style?

It’s probably Autumn Winds! I used aaall the adjectives and synonyms, and cosplayed as a Bronte sister while writing, so the result is quite gothic and picturesque.

6. Did any fics surprise you - either while writing or their reception?

I mean, Words We Use has surprised me so many times. I originally thought it was gonna be around ten chapters, but the story grew legs and ran away from me. It’s currently just out of view, and I’m trying to rein her back in. I was also pleasantly surprised with the recurring readers I got to know, and some of which I now call friends. :)

7. Do you have a fic you wrote and loved that went under the radar? (This is your sign to reblog/repost it!)

I really liked the tiny Prometheus retelling I did for Eris Week, but I think it might have been a little too niche?

8. Who is an artist that inspired you?

There are many, and I can’t possibly remember all. But a few that have made works I have really enjoyed are

@elleybug for her heartbreakingly melancholic depictions, especially of Eris, @palomita-de-la-sangre for her beautifully feral fae, @dawneternal for such wonderful noses, @velidewrites for making them all SO. DANG. SEXY, @thrumugnyr for such excellent incorporations of humor AND headcannons, @queercontrarian for wonderfully detailed character studies, for and the list goes on!

9. Who is an author that inspired you?

SO SO MANY! If I've ever left a kudos or comment on your work, consider yourself included.And I’m getting overwhelmed trying to write something about everyone, so we’re just listing to avoid this staying in the drafts

10. Who is a new author you discovered?

See above. I think about ⅔ of the authors are new discoveries from this year, as I only got into Azris in the fall of 2023.

11. Did you do any collaborations? How did it start?

No, but that could be fun :) Hit me up

Though, it is sort of a collaboration to have a beta reader, and I’m very grateful for @talibunny30 , @pippsmcgee and @neciebee for helping me with some of my writing in 2024. Literal/literary ANGELS

12. What accomplishments are you proudest of?

Finishing Your Scars on My Pulse, and developing as a writer. It caused a bit of a writing slump, but I’m getting back in the groove!

13. What did you learn about writing or creating this year?

What writing styles that don’t work for me. I tried a couple different ways to draft my stories, mostly in hopes that I would get to the end result faster, but it turns out that my slow and steady way of doing it suits me better. Spewing out words and then revising just makes me frustrated. But it’s a great way for me to draft the overall story!

14. What is your advice?

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Sometimes it’s very easy to write, and sometimes it’s really hard. It might just mean that you’re getting better at your craft, and your writing style is changing as a result, which can cause a bit of a dissonance. Or maybe you’re in a down period. I sure know how difficult it is to write when depressed. Give yourself the grace to get better, and treat your mind and body well. And don’t compare your work or your success to other writers, it only steals joy. Support others the way you would want to be supported.

15. What are your creative goals for 2025?

Finishing Words We Use in the Shadows, and working on more original fiction. I would also like to write something lighter and less serious, but I think I mostly have angst planned, lol

Gale was entranced. Slick fingers scissoring open the very destination his desire wanted to leap towards. He tried to imagine a heavy weight pressing atop him, holding his body still to keep him from climbing atop the chair in front of him and taking what he wanted. And oh how he wanted it. The pale form of his lover was the most beautiful sight he could imagine, and there was no need for imagination now. Even the depths of the Weave had failed to reveal marvels more magnificent than the sight of Astarion pleasuring himself, preparing himself, all the while taking back ownership of all of it. The connection they felt was clearly no accident, and went far beyond a tadpole squirming in their brains… The heat building in him as he watched was almost unbearable, but…he would give himself over to this fire time and time again, burning up beneath the command of crimson eyes. Those words were the only ones worth listening to, the only requests- the only commands that were worth following. The wound on his neck ached softly on the edge of his consciousness, still longing to feel that gentle pressure, the kiss of death that made life worth living. His chest glowed more with the Weave reacting to his lust, yet he swallowed the magic back down. Not one syllable of a spell would pass his lips, his fingers would not seek a single strand of the power he once craved. Instead, they sought tighter purchase on his sanity, almost bruising his legs as he realised his lover was finally ready to put an end to the teasing. “On the bed,” the soft words almost purred from the vampire’s throat, rich with desire, “take off your clothes and lay back, love, and I will give you everything you want.” Gale stopped himself from replying, biting back the words. He would simply have to lavish his lover with an essay of affection when they were done. His clothes hit the floor with a few deft movements and a quiet swish of fabric. Astarion’s shirt joined the pile as the wizard moved back on the bed, heated skin feeling the contrast of cool sheets beneath him.

The vampire on all fours crawling towards him looked every bit the predator he should, the hint of fangs and sparkling crimson eyes screaming danger to the part of Gale’s mind that was stubbornly hidden beneath a thick curtain of lust. As he lay his head back on the pillows, he stilled his body, trying to calm the rush of his heart thrumming in his chest. “Give me your hands.” Astarion straddled his waist now, sitting upright and reaching out towards him. The command was quickly followed, and the elf took one hand in each of his own in the manner of a noble greeting a potential lover at a ball. “You have been so patient, love, so very good.” Gale felt the cool soft lips press a demure kiss to the back of his hand, blush rising to his cheeks more strongly than during the entire salacious performance. “I think it’s about time for your reward.” Astarion kissed his other hand, this time adding more along the backs of his fingers, shifting his hand’s grip until he could reach the tip of his index finger. “The greatest magic, darling, is not what you can do. It’s what you can feel .” Gale gasped as his dearest vampire slowly took his finger between his lips, tongue curling around and sucking gently, a soft moan reaching his ears and all the while their eyes were locked together in a lover’s gaze. When he was done with the lewd kiss, Astarion slid his grip to Gale’s wrists, lowering them down to either side of his head on the pillows. He pressed down hard for a prolonged moment, then let go and sat up above him once more. “There, love, can you not feel me still? Even though I’ve left? Be a good little Wizard and keep them there.” He paused as Gale nodded. “You can answer with your voice this time, but only briefly. After that, all I will hear from you is the sweet sound of you moaning my name.” Gale felt himself trembling slightly, but he nodded again. “As you wish, my love.” ---- The rest is on AO3, though I may try to post the full thing here at some point in the future~ Enjoy! It's just prolific enough that I usually have new things to read when I go looking, but small enough that it doesn't feel overwhelming and impersonal. We're a little community. Everyone I've interacted with has been nice! And we all love Clint Barton and I think that's great.

3. a character that fandom has helped you appreciate

This is going to sound funny to anyone who knew me in my Steve/Tony phase, but Steve Rogers. I love Tony Stark but I believed the MCU propaganda about Steve being a boring blue boy scout. In reality he's a socialist punk who always stands up for what he thinks is right. And he's a sassy muffin. Thanks fandom ❤️

5. something you see in fics a lot and love

I don't know about seeing it a lot but I love nonlinear fics that have multiple timelines. When done well, Chef's kiss!

11. if you're a writer or artist, what fic or piece of art are you proud of making?

I'm still really in love with the Inception selkie fic I wrote a few years ago. It felt so easy to write, unlike some of my other works, and I really love the concept.

13. your favorite type of fandom event (gift exchange, ship week, secret santa, prompt meme, etc)

I'm going to give a shoutout here to @ficreadingchallenge because it's super fun and everyone has such a good time. That's my favorite type of event - low pressure, and everyone has a good time!

15. the character that always makes you smile

Darcy Lewis (criminally underutilized imo)

21. a fandom you're not active in anymore but that you still really like

Stargate Atlantis. I spent years and years reading (but not writing) in this fandom and I still love it to bits. It's full of comfort and nostalgia reading for me now.

23. the fandom you're curious about because of a mutual

Hmmmmmm I can't think of anything at the moment actually. I am not much of a fandom hopper, except at Yuletide.

25. a piece of advice for taking care of yourself in fandom spaces

It's your responsibility to curate your fandom experience, so have fun with it. (And by fun I don't mean easy or chasing good feelings. Like, the act of writing isn't always easy, but creating a thing you like and want to share with others is fun.) For goodness sakes, have fun with it!

i'm answering all 30 fic writer asks as seen on kelly@fohatic's blog 😽 HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE I LOVE YOU SO MUCH

1. What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again? fool's gold was a 1872 fic and it was one-sided dialogue but with no quotation marks, so it was supposed to read like somebody from timely was telling you about what happened! i liked it but i don't know if i would do it again because it's just stylistic, i think it worked for 1872 because it suited the small town setting

2. How many fics did you work on this year? (They don’t have to be finished or published!) i have too many wips but i posted 56 fics on ao3 this year!

3. What’s something you learned about yourself as a writer? that i dilly dally a lot to avoid writing smut scenes and that the discord sprinting bot is my best friend

4. What piece of media inspired you the most? probably endgame because we had the @stevetonyisendgame exchange and prompt fest this year, so i rewatched it a lot and ended up writing lots of endgame-adjacent/post-endgame!! they're so soft in that movie i can't help myself

5. What fandom(s) did you write for this year? all marvel except for one fic for game changers! i foresee house md fic in 2024

6. What ship(s) captured your heart? stevetony has always had my heart does that count

7. What character(s) captured your heart? i love steve rogers even more than i did last year

8. Did you write for a new fandom or ship this year? new ships!! i wrote steve/thor and steve/natasha for the first time for captain bottom bingo and steve/peggy for the first time for steggy secret santa

9. What fic meant the most to you to write? nobody saves me, baby (the way you do) because kristina@samcky had an unposted draft of it that she let me rewrite 🥺 so it meant a lot to me because she's all over that fic and i just love her with all my heart

What fic made you feel the happiest to work on? i think it's a tie between winged and how porcupines kiss because they're so fluffy! although this might a little biased because @capnstars drew the cutest winghead!steve art you've ever seen in your entire life for winged and @itsmaybitheway drew THIS PRECIOUS PORCUPINE!STEVE AND ARMADILLO!TONY for how porcupines kiss 🥺

11. What fic was the most satisfying to finish writing? probably hell and high water because i worked on it slowly for months which usually doesn't happen, and it might even be one of my favourite fics that i've ever written so i was really proud

12. What fic was the most difficult to write? Did you finish it? i don't think anything was difficult to write but new york is a hell of a town (and i'm brooklyn down) was so silly of me because it's set in august, but i wrote the first part in april and the second part in october and didn't really work on it during the actual summer 😶 like what was that?? why did i do that?? i'm so sorry

13. What fic was the easiest to write? into the forever and beautiful sky! it's a rocket-centric fic with rocket & steve friendship, i wrote it right after watching gotg vol 3 and it's just feelings vomit ahahah

What were your shortest and longest fics this year? my shortest fic was fool's gold which was 546 words and the longest fic that i wrote by myself (not just this year but also ever in all my life) was a rose by any other name which was 11.6k words! without caveats the longest fic is heartbreak prince, which i wrote with @areiton and it was 12k words!!

15. Rec a fic you wrote or posted in 2023 a beast of a burden is really special to me so i want to rec that one! because i wrote it for the endgame exchange that i loved so much and it was for mrsgingles, who is my favourite stevetony artist, and it reminds me of this summer, and it also feels like the truest love letter to endgame that i've ever written

16. What were you go-to writing songs? i don't have any! usually it's whatever i'm already listening to or a movie or show that i'm watching, but i listened to exo's lotto on repeat when i wrote hit the lotto because that's what the fic sounds like in my head and taylor swift's timeless when i wrote once in a lifetime because it was based on that song

17. What were your go-to writing snacks? NO TIME FOR SNACKS WHEN THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO NEED TO KISS

18. What was the hardest fic to title? maybe lovelorn and nobody knows? i started working on it before 1989 tv came out and it didn't have a title for way too long, the google doc was literally just called "there are still beautiful things steve pov" and then it took me like 20 minutes of comparing 1989 vault lyrics to pick one 😭

19. Share your favourite opening line from the ice is getting thinner under me and you (a hockey au)

Steve is supposed to be at a bar downtown with the rest of his team. Steve is not supposed to be back in the emptied out stadium, his back slammed against the lockers with Tony's tongue in his mouth.

20. Share your favourite ending line i added the second last line for context but this ending line is my favourite because time has always been against steve and peggy, so i feel like the best show of how happy and safe they feel together is that they finally don't have to watch the clock or worry about time slipping through their fingers anymore 🥺 this is from from we were born to be national treasures

When she laughs, eyes glittering, he has the most peculiar feeling that he was always meant to end up right here, kissing the maroon lipstick off Peggy’s mouth, swaying under the sprig of mistletoe they never took down from Christmas as someone starts to shout a countdown to New Year’s. She cups his face and he smiles into the kiss, and neither of them bother watching the clock.

21. Share your favorite piece of dialogue from if my wishes came true (buckynat)

“You got that written down in your notebook?” “I don’t need to write you down to remember you, Natasha Romanoff.”

22. Share an excerpt from your favorite scene there were so many close contenders aahh but my favourite scene has to be the one from catastrophic blues when tony finally catches steve!!

“Then don’t make me hurt you,” Tony says, raising his palm and lighting up his repulsor. “I know you know what this does. You’re unarmed and backed into a dead-end alley. You’re not winning this one, kid, I can tell you that for free. Take off your mask.” The Vigilante glowers and stands his ground. “My whole life is dead-end alleys. I’m not taking off my mask.”

23. Share the final version of a sentence or paragraph you struggled with. What about it was challenging? Are you happy with how it turned out? the whole end part of near-death cliché took some wrangling just because i was trying to make it sound like something kang the conqueror would say haha

“I’ve killed a lot of Avengers and it all starts to blend together,” Kang says, “but I remember you because you always end up fighting for him. I admire the consistency. It’s rare.” “Him?” “You could be with Steve Rogers,” Kang says almost empathetically, and it’s like he has gently wrenched Tony’s heart out of his chest. When the repulsors on his palms falter, Kang continues in the same disarming tone. “I could send you back to the battlefield. You’d open your eyes and he'd be there.”

24. What's something that surprised you while you were working on a fic? Did it change the story? this is hilarious to me because the recurring motif in but saving what we love was supposed to be steve and tony calling each other's bullshit over the years but it ended up being overshadowed by star wars. so much star wars, in fact, that it warranted a "star wars references" tag

25. What did you use to write? (e.g. writing programs, paper & pen, etc.) google docs

26. If you had to choose one, what was THE most satisfying writing moment of your year? all of i thought the plane was going down (how'd you turn it right around) for two reasons! one is that i feel like maleness informs a lot of their lives and experiences and for a while i didn't really get the appeal of genderbending them, but then i read all of isozyme's lesbian stevetony fics and i had an epiphany about genderbending being an opportunity for character and relationship study, and two is that once i had said epiphany i realised i actually had a lot to say so i wrote captain eve rogers in one go and now i love her so much

27. Did you do anything special to celebrate finishing a fic? hmm i don't think so!

28. How did you recharge between fics? i don't think i really do that either

29. If this were an awards show, who would you thank? oh my gosh. with all the sincerity in my heart, every person who gave me a kudo or a comment or is subscribed to my ao3, recommended my fics or my blog, said in a reblog/tweet/discord message/dm that they liked one of my fics or it made them happy or they were excited about reading one, follows me on tumblr or looks at my gifs or likes/reblogs my posts, runs fandom events, shares their beautiful fics or art or edits with us, all the members of the steve rogers defense squad, truly everyone who i've had an interaction with (except the steve antis and bots in my block list 😠) because i'm so grateful to have this community and that we met because we love the same thing and we can make each other's days better. deactivating for 10 months was the right thing to do but i'm so happy to be back this time because of you

2. Will you participate in any fandom exchanges or fic challenges, etc? I will definitely be running another regular round of @wipbigbang this year (and I'm probably going to do art again for the unclaimed fics and actually stay on top of it this time...whether I try finishing any of my WIPs is another matter) and I am currently running the International Fanworks Day Mini-Bang at the aforementioned big bang. I may do a fic for that as well, since it's really laid back.

I will also be finishing up the five prompts I got in December for @mollyappreciationweek at some point in the early half of the year (and I'll be running a February week-long round for Valentine's Day/Galentine's Day/Singles Awareness Day as well as another prompt-a-thon in December), and if you do Christmas In July again I'll take prompts. I may do the Spook Me Ficathon instead of Fictober...not sure. But I do plan on doing Spook Me this year after missing the sign-ups the last few years. And if I get enough participants, I'll do another round of @sherlollysecretsanta and make mod gfts as well (which reminds me...got to email participants in this round about the fic covers).

3. Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom this year? Which one? I do! One of the WIPs I'm bouncing around finishing for WIPBB is the Knives Out Cablanca fic you are letting me finish, and I've never written Knives Out before. As for all mine fics? It's not entirely new, but I tossed out a Marvel's What If...? fix-it idea for Peggy/1602!Steve which I might write, which will be my first time writing specifically for that show.

7. Will you change anything about the way you interact with other writers? I'm going to try and read more fic written by people other than @dreaminonao3 (I have a backlog of @sobeautifullyobsessed's fic that I'm going to read when I have a good chunk of time to donate to reading some of her long WIPs, and I have a ton of bookmarked fics across a bunch of different fandoms on my Firefox account), and make damn sure I comment and comment often. I'm also going to try and reblog more fic recs over on @mousedetective, where I have a bigger audience.

9. Short term goals… what do you hope to complete this week or in January? Since I finally seem to be over my food poisoning, this week I hope to do the mod gifts for Sherlolly Secret Santa and write at least one or two things for @greenskyoverme, including the newest chapter of "What Stork Brings." As for January? I want to get as much art done for the 2023 round of WIPBB that I owe as I can. I also want to write something new for my birthday on the 23rd, since I'm not expecting a whole lot this year.

11. Would you like to try any new fanfic genres or tropes this year? Not really? There isn't much I haven't tried at least once in the 25 1/2 years I've been writing fic.

Now, new ships, on the other hand? That I'm game for...

TMI Tuesday!

Happy Boxing Day, Tumblr!

After a few weeks of things being more than a little hectic, both in my personal life and at work, I had an absolutely MARVELOUS Christmas weekend. It was simultaneously relaxing and productive. It was very chill, very calm. There was no talk of politics or social troubles. I wrote an entire chapter of Courtship over the course of two days.

Paradise.

You may have noticed that my long-promised winter solstice fic didn't get posted on the Solstice. We're just gonna have to live with that. Between this and Live Wire, I've learned that just because I have an idea for a long, that really isn't an indication of its potential as a good story. I do intend to finish Solstice and post it... at some point. The story is a sweet moment, but it didn't come with a hard deadline like my RSS fic, or a compelling plot like Courtship.

Speaking of which, Courtship is going to start posting on Friday January 5. I'm gonna try a weekly schedule for this one, instead of bi-weekly. I can't wait to show you guys how Lacey French became Mrs. Gold.

On Saturday, I posted my Rumbelle Secret Santa fic, Wrapping Up Her Christmas Gift. It's a loose sequel to my old fic Begging on His Bended Knees, another session with the same characters. This is two chapters of cross-dressing, pegging and pining. Kinky emotions, that's my jam.

I have been having lots of fun reading the RSS fics that my fellow Rumbellers have posted. I love this event, especially nowadays, because it seems to get people to come out of the woodwork. New authors have an excuse to get started, new readers have something to read, old writers and readers can both get back into the game. It's a magical time of the year.

In addition to being open to questions about my new fic, I am also going to post a list of "year in review" kind of questions. I don't know how much I'm going to get to them today. There are still parties and things to do between Christmas and New Year's. This might end up being a TMI week. Feel free to ask me anything, and have a fabulous day!

I am so relieved i waited till i recuperated fully from the other secret santa fics before attempting to broach this sacred text...

Rahu, I am not only bereft of speech (again) but it feels like i have been widowed by words, all notion of language has withered in my mouth and now there is only arid rubble in there. But it would be more accurate to say, as evidenced by both the drought upon my tongue and the deluge from my eyes, that the truth is this is the midst of a season where the land is fallowing. It is the beauty of a horizon that invites one to plough further and further through the dense thicket and mire of fledgling writing aspirations, something so dazzling one allows themselves the fancy that a sunbeam in their palms could quench, could slake their thirst.

Your prose is not just a thing of exquisite craftsmanship but so often a marvel on a geological scale, in that there's a wonderous stupefying naturalism and organic flow to it, one cannot see the mountain range for the pinnacle, all the sweat it took to get to the summit.

Love carries a scent, a subtle one.

You’ve tried, repeatedly, to pin down the elusive troubadour that holds court in your lungs, robbing them of breath when Kento enters a room. Words, words, more words, all a meaningless jumble that never emerges quite in the way you desire.

Kento smells of crisp, clean linen, sunshine on dew-laden grass, the headiness of rosemary studded like jewels in a freshly baked loaf, the metallic earthiness of rocks fished from a clear riverbed.

Even now, after your long years of association, after the (admittedly awkward) dance of courtship, after you’d both confessed your feelings and revelled in the intimacy gifted by the bower of your blossoming relationship, you still struggled to convey how his presence affected you.

As tender, passionate and considerate as the man was, there was always a certain reserve to his manner that you respected through your actions. You knew that he didn’t like to be overwhelmed by sound and sensation after a long day with Gojo hanging mercilessly off his shoulders, like a mink coat that decided when it would wear you.

He liked to greet you at the door with a steady, warm kiss, head inclined sweetly towards yours as he banished the cold he’d brought in with the groceries. He appreciated the way you’d tenderly capture his face in your grasp, holding him there, drinking in the lacquered honey of his eyes, the slight quirk at the corner of his shapely mouth, the wash of heat as his breath ghosted across the bridge of your nose and slightly parted lips.

He liked that you’d warmed the apartment to just the right degree, that you’d removed the decorative cushion from his favourite armchair, that you’d always trace over his knuckles before slipping your hands into his, the callouses on his palms scraping pleasantly as you’d raise them and press feather-light kisses where your fingers had pioneered.

Today, however, was different. Today, you paced fitfully.

It was Christmas Eve, and you were missing him dreadfully. The soft lighting, the rich aroma of sugar and cinnamon-clad nuts, the smooth countertop transitioning to the rough stone of the feature wall over the hearth, all passing under your restless fingertips. Nothing soothed you. None of it mattered.

He wasn’t here.

He hadn’t been present for the last three days. Something had occurred in Okinawa, and he’d been posted there for surveillance.

You could imagine how he’d have looked, receiving the assignment at this time of year, how his jaw would have tightened briefly, how he would have subconsciously reached for his tie, loosening it, how his stride would have taken on a more rapid, irregular rhythm on the way to the subway.

A few days ago, when he’d walked through the door to give you the news, there was little sign of that brisk, impatient man. For you, there was only melancholic tenderness, the drape of his arms almost helplessly around your form, the way his head sought the support of your shoulder, the soft fall of his hair against your neck. This was the side of him that nobody else encountered.

Your Kento, an unadorned, sturdy torch held aloft in the hand of some fickle God, the flame of his spirit stubbornly flickering.

You needed him. You wanted him here. You worried for him, especially when he left to undertake missions like this one, where communication was all but impossible. You wanted to tear him from the grasp of his never-ending duty for one day, just one, and –

The turn of a key in the latch startles you from your reverie.

It has to be –

You reach the door before the thought completes itself. There he is, tall, broad-shouldered, framed against the swirl of snow that blows across the darkened apartment hallway, against a world that no longer matters.

And then he is inside, in the foyer, pulling off his shoes, stepping into his house slippers. You give him room, standing at the edge of the wooden step, body coiled in readiness.

He joins you, standing toe to toe, and you still don’t rush him. You savour the moment, exerting a self-control you had no idea you were capable of.

It only takes a minute to unravel.

Your exhale mirrors his, arms coming up around him with almost convulsive strength. His breathing hitches slightly and you take your cue to bury your nose in the crook of his neck, inhaling deeply.

This time is different. This time, you don’t hold back. His skin is gloriously cool from the frigid wind outside, his hair and lashes darkened by melted snow. Your hands map out the breadth of his back, the fabric of his shirt (soft, so soft), and the hard planes of him beneath. Such was your Kento.

A low rumble begins somewhere in the region of his abdomen, rising through the column of his throat, which your face is still pressed against. His chest vibrates beneath yours, a huff of laughter escaping, blowing the hair away from the base of your neck.

“I won’t disappear, if that’s what you’re thinking.”

“Of course you won’t. Not when I’ve baked a pie.”

His hand comes up, fingers carding through your hair, cupping the back of your head. His touch is familiar, yet fills you with fresh, agonised delight each time, a spear slid between the ribs. Low and filtered through with that ache of longing, echoing your own, he speaks against the shell of your ear.

“May I have my kiss now?”

“As many as you want.”

Something is different today. You lean back, the heft of his arms easily taking your weight, and glance playfully up into his face. You’ve satiated (temporarily) your need to be ensconced in his scent. Kento, however, doesn’t look quite as satisfied.

There is a kindling in that honeyed gaze, the eternal fire that flickers just beneath his cool exterior, that licks closer to the surface of his skin when he is with you. It’s even more noticeable on the nights when you’re both in the sanctity of your bedroom, the sheets rippling like water over a restless lake as his hips surge between the spread of your thighs.

Your response to him now, seeing him look at you like that, is sudden, primal, crushing the air from your lungs with need.

What are you doing? What time do you have to waste when he’s here, in this place, where you can finally treasure him the way he deserves?

The pie is forgotten, for now. His appetite, along with yours, has clearly shifted to more immediate functions.

You barely have time to process the thought before he stoops a little, arms hooking around the backs of your knees. The quickly stifled laugh that escapes you is drowned in the ecstasy of his lips on yours, crashing, melding, sliding away, returning, always returning.

Kento is seldom this carried away, his feelings and urges always so tightly bound to order and logic. There is certainly nothing orderly, however, about the way he hauls you into the bedroom and deposits you with a small toss onto the bed, his natural strength on rare display.

Rushed, clumsy, the war of tongue and teeth steals away your breath with its urgency. In between the slide of zippers, the slip of fingertips on errant buttons, you whisper to him, hushed and reverent.

“Missed you – hmm – wait, I need – “

“I missed you – “

“Needed you here – “

“I know, darling, I – “

“Don’t – ah – don’t let them – “

“Won’t pry me off you with a hollow purple – “

You tip your head back and laugh again, tension suddenly leaving the line of your shoulders and he pauses, looking down at you. Hair tangled by the passage of your fingers, burnished to bronze in the dim light of the bedroom, eyes alight with that searing softness meant only for you, Kento pushes you back against the pillows.

He is looking at you as if you’ve cast a diamond net around his unresisting form, reeling him into the undersea palace of your embrace, body moulding against yours in a dance as ancient as the slide of tectonic plates.

Pleasure erupts from your groin upward as he grinds down on your core, letting you feel how hard you’ve made him. Bold, sensuous, so unlike his strait-laced demeanour outside these walls.

Kento, your beautiful Kento, leans in to capture your lips once again, harshly. You claw at his shoulders, pulling him closer, pushing him away, neck extending and body arching as he rocks his hips in steady devastation against you.

He pulls away, one excruciatingly cold minute when his skin isn’t flush against yours, and he tugs your underwear down your thighs, the final barrier between you both. He never means to be explicitly rough with you, but his strength is now being led by the immediacy of his desire, and you reciprocate in kind.

The light cotton tangles around your ankle and you don’t bother kicking it away. Instead, you lock your legs around his waist, surging up from the bed beneath you, eyes hooded, lips parting, nipples stiffening under his fiery scrutiny.

You’ve never been this wanton for him before, and the groan that punches from his chest leaves you scraping across his back, eager, desperate. Your mouth falls open as the slickness of his erect tip dives between your labia, pushing upward, forcing out a breathless gasp as he catches your small, aching bud.

No, Kento has never been intentionally rough with you, but tonight everything feels different. He stills, breathing laboured, before lifting off you once again. Ignoring your indignant protest, his hand grazes along your hip before, to your astonishment, he flips you over onto your stomach.

You only need a moment to regain your bearings. Instinct, long buried, wets your lips in anticipation, raises your hips slightly, spreads your thighs apart. Kento’s eyes never leave you, body covering yours, his weight delicious and substantial over your slightly unsteady form. He doesn’t need to instruct you or hold your chin in position. You know not to break eye contact, even as his flesh parts yours and he enters you with a soft, slick noise, audible in the charged, erotic hush of the room.

You are now panting, swift and irregular, as he presses down on you further, filling you, stretching you, the sheets beneath cocooning the push of your body into the mattress. You gasp and whimper slightly, teeth coming down hard on your bottom lip as you watch the veil of lustful adoration descend over his gaze, misted, taking in your shuddering delight.

You quiver around his intrusion and one large palm trails softly down your back, briefly grounding you before he lifts and eases back into you, tearing a ragged cry from your throat.

He is merciless tonight, holding you so tenderly while he plunges and strokes, taking as much as he gives, hands planted firmly on either side of your breasts as he rocks into you, the full impact of his weight behind every thrust.

Kento isn’t taking his time with you, not just yet. Your need is as great as his, painting your inner thighs with damp heat, and you’re crying, begging. His own hoarse pleas and praises are roughened by the immensity of the pleasure you’re both building lavishly between your bodies, brick by golden brick.

When Kento is close to orgasm, you’ve learned how to identify the signs; the puckering of his brow, the intensity and focus that burns like ultraviolet across the length of your form, the sudden jerk and release of the supreme tension that cords the sinew of neck and arms, the small grunt followed by the intimate press of his forehead to yours.

His teeth sink lightly into the flesh there, igniting embers that kindle a simmering furnace. Breathing now matching the pace of his, you start to measure your movements, each timed push backward on his length tightening the drawstring around the bottomless pool of honey you’ve laved him with.

He returns it, the firm lines of his mouth shaping themselves into that most secret flame that burns so bright, casting the shadows away from your life and his, even if only for this stolen moment.

Ah, here he is, your tired sorcerer, brimming with unspoken devotion and the dogged faith that brings him back to you, again and again.

Here he is, your Kento, to pare away the rough edges of pain and the bleak unsheathing of sorrow’s knife, to hold you so close while snow blankets the world outside.

Here he is, your lover, his scent as elusive as night-blooming jasmine, banishing the evening from your heart.

I am both a reader and a writer. 😊 As a writer, I haven’t expanded to very many fandoms. Mainly The A-Team and The Monkees. I usually write hurt/comfort or angst. As a reader, there’s no boundaries! Shows, bands, comics, anything goes for me in fanfiction.

I absolutely love The Monkees. I have both seasons of the tv show on dvd. Who's your favorite Monkee? Do you have a favorite episode? I'm a sucker for angst myself 😄 I'll pretty much read anything when it comes to fanfiction too.

As for Marvel, I'd say my favorite Avenger is Bucky (although Ant-Man is a close second) and my favorite X-Man is Cyclops. I used to have a pet guinea pig and I had named him Bucky because I loved the character so much 😄 I'd say Civil War is my favorite Avengers movie. I just really like the fight scenes in it and the conflict. My favorite X-Men movie is X2. I used to watch it all the time when I was younger. I was low-key obsessed with Nightcrawler.

Ooh. I'm a little late for this one, I suppose, but hey, here's a few good fic writers and some possible suggestions:

@siancore is wonderful. I believe Sian's put out a fic recently that's a time travel AU called Ashes & Dreams, though I believe people are huge fans of The Boys of Summer.

@jemgirl86 is awesome. (Secret) Santa Baby is Shana's most recent fic, but I hear What’s the 411? is pretty beloved.

@abarbaricyalp is fantastic. Red Right Hand is an amazing western AU and Last Christmas (I Gave You My Heart) This Year... is a pretty great holiday fic.

@questinwitchface is marvelous. Pet Names is one people love and Cinnamon-Brown Sugar Coffee Creamer is a good one that also talks about Sam's past relationships.

@runzu is amazing. Ru's Double Trouble Series is great and I feel like the demi rep in Romance in Everything is spot on.

@bisamwilson is fabulous. Mak's Princess Diaries AU series, hey princess, comes highly recommended and I know people love you were an army officer, and i just a rockette.

@six2vii is spectacular. Anything from their Couch Sessions series is fantastic.

@funsized-loser makes superb podfics. Cee recent podfics include @glittercake's [podfic] way too well (fic here) and very kindly one of my own fics, [podfic] Your Very Own Christmas (fic here).

Every single SamBucky fic writer I love isn't on here and you should dip into like Samtembers and SamBucky Library events that have gone on and look at other lists from other people too, but idk, they're all good ones.

It's time for Star Spangled Secret Santa 2022!

What is Star Spangled Secret Santa?

Star Spangled Secret Santa is a Captain America anonymous holiday exchange, with all creations centered around one or more Captain America-centric characters.

How it works

During sign-ups, you will provide info about the type of work you would like to receive, and the type of work you will be gifting. After sign-ups close, the mods will match gifters with giftees. In December, gifts will be posted. This is an anon exchange, so you won’t know who your gifter is until after reveals.

Rules & Requirements

Minimums

The minimums are as follows:

Fic- 3k Original art Podfic- minimum 2k words recorded Fan vid- minimum 2 min

If you have an idea that is of a similar effort and aren’t sure about whether it fits, feel free to ask!

Content & Conduct

Please be as true to your giftee’s wants as possible. You don’t need to include every single thing they want, but if they ask for a coffee-shop AU and you give them pirates, or they ask for a T rating and you give them E, that’s not within the spirit of the exchange.

Gifts may be of any rating. All submissions must be tagged appropriately and thoroughly. Participants under 18 may not create or ask for gifts that feature explicit content.

Please be mindful of portraying marginalized communities respectfully. This page from Writing With Color has a list of blogs and resources that discuss diversity in writing. Any requests or creations submitted in bad faith, or that promotes racism, transphobia, homophobia, etc. will not be accepted.

Beta reading

All written submissions must be beta-read and legible. If you need help finding a beta, please email the mods. Art does not require a beta.

As this is an anon exchange, please do not post your work or discuss your work’s details publicly until after reveals.

FAQs

What ships & characters are allowed?

Any and all ships are welcome, as well as gen works with no ships, again as long as the focus is on a Captain America centric character. Any and all Marvel or MCU canon, canon divergence, or AUs are welcome.

Who counts as “Cap-Centric?”

Any character who has appeared in the Captain America MCU trilogy or The Falcon and the Winter Soldier television show, or has been Captain America in any media canon. While many characters appear in these canons, please be aware that the focus of this exchange is Captain America & Co, so asking for works about characters that appear in those medias but are not the focus (e.g. Iron Man, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, etc) makes it harder for us to match you. Please remember this is not a commission.

What kind of gifts are accepted?

We accept fic, podfic, original art, and fan vids. You will be able to let us know which types of gifts you are able to create and receive.

How does anon posting work? Our collection is set to anon and unrevealed, so once you post to the collection it will automatically be made anonymous and will show up as an unrevealed work. During our posting period, the mods will gradually reveal the gifts. Once all gifts are posted, we will change the collection to non-anon and the authors will be revealed. We understand that this may be new for some people, but we have a few reasons for this set up: first, it gives us time to find a pinch hitter in case someone needs to drop right before the deadline, and second, it helps ensure that everyone is getting equal effort gifts, and lastly, we love a little mystery!

Who can participate?

Anyone is welcome to participate! If you’re a writer, artist, or creator you can create a gift. We will also need betas and pinch hitters!

Do I need to sign up?

Yes, sign-ups close on Friday, October 7th. Pinch hitter and beta sing ups are open indefinitely.
