I love Skam Italia boy squad. It is my favorite so far. I haven't watched all the versions yet but I'll get there.

Anyway in Skam Italia I love the relationship they all have, not only Gio and Martino. I mean can we talk about Gio and Elia that understand each other's thoughts just with one fucking look? I mean that's mind blowing.

But I also love how everyone is different.

Gio is the person who understands everything but won't say anything and will just wait for his friends to come and talk to him when they feel ready while still trying to cheer them up and reassure them while Elia is the opposite. He understands everything but won't take his friends' bullshit without commenting. He will just let them know that he knows they aren't saying the truth and will get a bit frustrated about it but will be ready to forgive them as soon as the argument is over. Martino is the messy one. He cares deeply for his friends but he is so lost in his own troubles that he can't help them but when he's fine, he is always there to support his friends. Last but not least there is our desperate Luchino who doesn't understand anything but is still incredibly supportive of his friends and couldn't hate any of them, doesn't matter what they do.

I just love them so much and I want more of them. So I'm waiting for a season on Elia.

La Grotta

If there's one thing that differentiates Skam Italia  from the OG (and France), is La Grotta.  I’ve seen people prefer the original and I completely understand;  it’s a wonderful scene and it sets the gold standard to every Isak season from here to eternity.  I just don’t think that when a remake takes a step away or beyond that, it should be seen as inferior since it evokes a different feeling from let’s face it, two distinctly different characters.  They may have been based on Isak and Even but ultimately, changes in the story like Mama Rametta and Gio, made the narrative flow more differently; that is most evident in the end of episode 9.

Instead of the frantic search & rescue that Isak/Lucas embark when he gets news that Even/Eliott is missing and seems suicidal, Italia introduces us to La Grotta, whose prominence in Marti and Nico’s story has been seeded throughout the season, especially with the references to Chicco Rodi and the B&E tutorial.  While there is a fairy tale-like quality to the quest Marti takes to get to Nico, there is no hint of the fear or anxiety that drives many of the Isaks forward as they look for their Evens; there is only a confidence that settles around him as he basks in his love for Nico. Instead of heightened emotion, we get this quiet contentment that permeates his bus ride while arming himself with the tutorial.  For Marti, it almost feels like a triumphant homecoming because he knows that he is loved, that Nico loves him despite what people think or say, and now Marti needs for Nico to know that too, that Marti believes in him no matter what.
