Dixie Chicks Co-founder Laura Lynch Killed in Car Crash
- “Her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band,” the Chicks said
Laura Lynch, the singer and bassist who co-founded the band then known as the Dixie Chicks, has died, the group said.
Lynch, 65, was killed in a head-on crash Dec. 22, Texas television station WFAA reported.
“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Laura Lynch, a founding member of the Chicks,” the band said in a statement.
“We hold a special place in our hearts for the time we spent playing music, laughing and traveling together. Laura was a bright light - her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band.”

As a member of the Dixie Chicks, Lynch, along with Robin Lynn Macy and sisters Martie and Emily Erwin - now Maguire and Strayer, respectively - recorded 1990’s Thank Heavens for Dale Evans and 1992’s Little Ol’ Cowgirl. Macy departed and the trio put out Shouldn’t a Told You That in 1993 before Lynch, too, decamped and was replaced by Natalie Maines.
“Laura … was instrumental in the early success of the band,” the Chicks said. “Her undeniable talents helped propel us beyond busking on street corners to stages all across Texas and the Midwest.”

The Chicks Struggle to Stay in Key During DNC Anthem Performance
The Chicks struggled to stay in key when performing the National Anthem at the Democratic National Convention.
Far from raggedy, the Chicks’ “Star Spangled Banner” nevertheless had some creases in it. Sound issues left Martie Maguire fiddling with her ear piece and wandering away from harmonious voices of Natalie Maines and Emily Strayer.
The audience gathered Aug. 22 in Chicago seemed not to notice and received the performance with warm appreciation. But the issues with the a cappella rendering are obvious in retrospect.

Sometimes I try to wonder what it's like to be Adrian Pasdar. You were on Heroes and some other stuff, and you had a fanbase.
And you were married to one of the loudest, most unapologetic feminist voices in country music, Natalie Maines, who has a band with two other unapologetic feminists: Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer. Three people who won CMAs and still played all the county fair gigs they'd already signed on for because it was just the right thing to do.
And, at every turn, when The Chicks are taken to task for being "too much," they double down, and you, Adrian Pasdar, are likely in the room several times when your wife writes scathing fuck you lyrics of those accusations. You were definitely around for "Not Ready to Make Nice," when Natalie said, "We're embarrassed George W. Bush is from Texas," and then The Chicks got covered in death threats, and when they showed up with a new song, it was a literal "eat shit fuckos" to everyone who thought they should "shut up and sing." (link)
And then your wife, beloved and respected musician Natalie Maines, realizes you're a cheating fuckboy and decides to divorce you.
And you, Adrian Pasdar, decide you have to fight for every last penny of HER FUCKING MONEY and also TRY AND GET IT IN WRITING THAT SHE'S NOT ALLOWED TO WRITE SONGS ABOUT YOU BEING A CHEATING FUCKBAG.
And after YEARS in the courts because you wanted to get your dick wet wherever you could but you didn't want to face consequences, your wife and her two friends come out of semi-retirement as a trio to release a blistering, pointed, and FUCKING ANGRY album about the state of the world--including your dick wandering and attempts to hide it.
And it's a fucking banger.
And you could have avoided all of this simply by knowing you wife well enough to NOT tell her she's not allowed to say certain things.
Like, would The Chicks album post-Pasdar been a fucking banger without his fuckboy antics? Absolutely. The Chicks are fucking rad. But he thought he could scare Natalie into NOT dragging his ass. Which, like. ARE YOU NEW HERE.
