You Can’t Marry a Malfoy (11/12)
George Weasley/Reader
Ch1. Ch2. Ch3. Ch4. Ch5. Ch6. Ch7. Ch8. Ch9. Ch10.
Rating: E for everyone (no warnings apply except a little alcohol in the middle I suppose)
Word Count: 1163
AO3 Link
Summary: When reader comes running to George Weasley because her parents have arranged a Pureblood marriage between her and Draco Malfoy, what will George do? He's been secretly in love with his best friend since their time at Hogwarts, and he knows he can't let her go. He definitely can't let Malfoy have her.
Notes: Wedding time! One more chapter posted tomorrow (hopefully) and then a possible prequel in the upcoming week(s)! Thank you so much for comments, likes, reblogs, and following! I’ve had a great time writing this piece:)
**(y/f/n) = your full name
Enjoy
"Get up!" Molly's voice rings through his small bedroom. George groans, moving his pillow over his head.
"George Fabian Weasley!" She pulls the pillow away from him, "You have to get up, dear."
"Five more minutes," he reaches blindly for the pillow.
"You have to go help your father set up the tent." she begins to open the blinds.
"Mum, that's too bright…"
"Good. Get up. We have a tight schedule today."
Finally, it hits him. He's getting married today. Grinning, he rubs his tired eyes. Getting dressed in plain clothing, he saunters down the staircase to the kitchen where the rest of his family is eating.
"Morning," he takes the mug Ginny offers him.
"Morning," Charlie greets him, "ready for today?"
George takes a sip of the warm liquid, setting it down on the counter, "Yup."
***
Very reminiscent of Bill and Fleur's wedding, he and his brothers help set up the tent on one side of the lawn for the reception. Ginny, Hermione, and his mother set up a little altar on the other side. Hermione charms some of the natural foliage to create a wedding arch. The vines fall delicately down the back of the arch, creating a backdrop of the rich green color. Ginny hand places small flowers throughout the arch as Molly sets up white chairs in front.
George walks nearby, "looks good."
"Thank you," Ginny turns to look at him. "(y/n) wanted yellow flowers everywhere. Do you think you could charm the flowers on the back of the seats?"
"Of course," he causes the flowers to grow up the backs of the seats, also causing them to brighten in color by casting an anti-wilting charm on them. For good measure, he enchants the flowers to sparkling slightly in the sunlight. "Look good?"
"Brilliant! How did you make them sparkle like that?"
"A special charm I've been working on. When's (y/n) getting here?"
"Sometime soon. We're going to be in my room. You should probably get inside before she gets here."
***
He gets dressed in his old room for the last time, tying his tie in the mirror.
"Not bad," he checks himself out in the mirror. The morning coat's dark material is very opposite of his normal attire, but his mum had begged him to wear something "wedding appropriate" for a groom. She wasn't wrong when she said he'd look good in the dark coat.
"How'd mum get you into that?" Ron teases from the doorway.
"No idea," George grins, "but I look bloody good."
"Gonna ditch the earth tones now?"
He snorts, "never."
***
Bill hands him a brown leather flask. "What's this?"
"Firewhiskey, of course." His lips twist with interest before taking a large drink from the flask. The liquid burns his throat deliciously, landing in the pit of his stomach. He passes the flask on to Ron, who passes it to Harry, who passes it to Percy, and so on. Before long, they're all joking, messing around like they did when they were children.
"Hand the flask over here, Ron," George puts his hand out.
"Oi! Don't you dare mate. He can't be out of it at the altar." Bill snatches the flask away before anyone can have another drink.
"Merlin's beard... I'm getting married." George's eyes widen, looking towards Ron.
"I'm glad you've realized, mate." Harry laughs.
"Oh wow--" He grins stupidly.
"Mum's gonna be pissed if you let him go out there, piss drunk." Percy comments, laughing.
***
They manage to sober him up slightly before escorting him down the stairs past the door that's loud with the girls' laughter. He can hear (y/n)'s enchanting laughter through the walls driving him insane. He'd give anything to go into that room and steal her away for a moment alone.
His mother shakes her head when she notices how they're guiding him out of the house.
"Don't give him any more," Molly plucks the flask from Bill's hand, ushering the boys out of her kitchen with another disapproving look.
Everything seems to get real the moment he's in front of the small crowd of their family and friends. (y/n)' s parents sit in the front right while his parents sit on the front left. They agreed on a small guest list. (y/n) hadn't wanted a whole affair. The day was supposed to be about them, she had insisted. Only a few classmates, close friends, and closely related family were in the small crowd, which was perfectly fine to him.
He gives his mom and dad a look before soft music starts up. Charlie walks down the aisle with (y/n) 's maid-of-honor Amelia on his arm. He's whispering something to her as they walk together, and Amelia is giggling, flirtatiously smiling at his brother. Charlie leaves a space between himself and George. A space for Fred.
Next is Percy with (y/n) 's friend Audrey, then Bill and Fleur, Ron and Hermione, and finally Harry and Ginny. The music changes, and Victoire walks down the aisle throwing yellow sunflower petals all around. She grins at everyone, definitely thinking this gathering was for her.
"Uncle George!" She runs towards the altar. The audience laughs as George squats down to pick her up.
"Hello V. You look very pretty in your dress."
"Thank you," Victoire giggles.
"Victoire, darling. Come here, please." Fleur motions for her daughter. Setting her down, she runs to stand next to her mum as (y/n) 's father steps out the front door. He holds out his hand to help (y/n) down the few stairs. He can only just see her, but his heart starts to rapidly beat in his chest. The closer she walks towards him, the faster his heart seems to beat. His face physically hurts from how wide he's grinning. He's never seen a more beautiful person in his entire life. The white material of her dress fits her body perfectly, hugging in all the right places. He swears later on that (y/n) glimmered in the afternoon sunlight as she walked down the aisle.
She's grinning and reaching for his arm as he's reaching for hers...and finally her hands in his. They stand across from each other. He's so transfixed by her, he hardly notices the witch in front of them speaking until she's asking him to repeat after her. Somehow he gets through the vows without many blunders.
"And do you (y/f/n) take George Fabian Weasley to be your husband, to live together in marriage? To cherish in friendship and love today, tomorrow, and for as long as the two of you live. To trust and love him faithfully in strength and in weakness, in success and in disappointment?"
"I do" (y/n) squeezes his hands in hers.
"By the power vested in me by the Ministry of Magic, I now pronounce you Wizard and Witch. You may seal your commitment to one another with a kiss."
George doesn't even hesitate, pulling her into his arms and kissing her.
His wife.

Flower Shop AU, part 3
See part 2 here.
——
Monday morning found Bracken back at the shop again. He normally had Sundays and Mondays off, but the sister who worked with him and their mother had had a conflict that day and asked him to cover her shift. “Besides,” she’d reasoned, “You’re always there, anyway.”
He’d made to protest that, despite her comments, he did in fact have a social life (not an entirely truthful statement), but then he saw her excited face and remembered that she was planning to surprise her girlfriend with a lunchtime marriage proposal, so he ultimately smiled and told her he’d be happy to take her shift if she promised to bring his soon-to-be sister-in-law over that night for dinner.
Today’s list of tasks included signing for a delivery of several different types of lilies, making some general “have a good day” and “I love you” bouquets for passersby who might wish to stop inside and pick up some flowers for their friend or significant other during the day, put together a special birthday order to be delivered tomorrow, purchase more flowers which would be needed for a couple of large arrangements that had been ordered for an upcoming funeral, call a few customers to let them know their orders were ready to pick up, and of course, more corsages and boutonnières for the coming weekend. His father would be arriving later that morning to assist, but Bracken always opened the shop, so he’d be on his own for another two or three hours.
Bracken took a peek into one of the refrigeration units inside the shop and pulled out two vases with arranged flowers and colorful ribbons. He placed those on top of the front counter and returned twice more to pull out a total of four additional vases, all of which he placed on the countertop. His trained and careful eye examined each of the arrangements to check for droopy buds, wilting leaves or other problems, but he found none; his mother had assembled these particular arrangements, and her work was flawless as usual. He called the first customer to let them know their order was ready to be picked up, and was midway through dialing the second customer’s phone number when a flurry of motion caught his eye and caused him to turn his attention to the street outside. The shop itself was located alongside a relatively busy street which usually experienced a lot of pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle traffic, but Bracken’s jaw dropped when he saw what had managed to pull him out of his work mindset.
Kendra. She was being pulled by a taller man - a bit roughly, Bracken noted, and also very obviously against her will - from the cafe across the street toward a car which had been parked not far from the very flower shop where Bracken was located.
Well. That wasn’t going to stand.
He was out the door in a flash, without bothering to lock up. Kendra looked like she was in trouble, and although he still didn’t really know her, he’d be damned if he sat back and witnessed anyone being forced to go anywhere or do anything against their will.
“You think that was funny?!” Bracken heard the man yell at her. “You leave those crazy ass flowers on my doorstep, then ghost me all weekend?! What the hell is your problem?!”
“Leave me alone!” she cried as she struggled to break free of his hold on her. “Stop!”
Run faster.
“Hey! Kendra!” Bracken called as he ran. His hail grabbed the attention of both parties, and he managed to intercept them before they made it all the way to what Bracken figured was the man’s car.
“Get lost,” the man told him.
“Let me go!” Kendra shouted, tears streaming down her face.
Bracken placed his hands on top of Kendra’s arm, then pried the man’s hand off of her and set her free. “The lady wishes for you to leave her alone,” he said simply. The man, who had dark, curly hair and what would probably have been handsome features if his face weren’t contorted in rage, yanked his hand out of Bracken’s grasp and moved to take hold of Kendra again. Bracken stepped between them, effectively blocking the man’s access to Kendra with his own body. “Excuse me,” he said. “I don’t know who you are, but it’s time for you to leave.”
“I told you to get lost,” the man positively seethed. He looked like he was going to hit Bracken, who was prepared to defend himself, when another man suddenly dashed in front of Bracken and knocked Kendra’s assailant to the ground. Bracken knew the newcomer - his name was Warren, and he and his brother owned the cafe across the street.
“Who the hell do you think you are, dragging Kendra around like a ragdoll?!” Warren yelled. “I warned you. I straight up warned you. Get out of here. If you know what’s good for you, you will never come around here again. Got it?!”
The man on the ground held a hand to his cheek. Bracken could see a bruise already forming below his eye. “You’re psychotic,” he said to Warren.
“And you’re an astounding piece of trash. If I hear about you hurting Kendra ever again, you’ll be buried trash. Have I made myself clear?” Warren’s face was flushed, and his fists quivered with what Bracken recognized as barely-concealed rage.
Bracken turned toward Kendra, whose cheeks were wet from continued tears and who also cradled her arm - the one the man had grabbed - in front of her. “Are you injured?” he asked as gently as he could.
She shook her head no.
“Do me a favor and get her out of here, Bracken,” Warren said, his eyes trained on the guy who was still lying on the ground. “I’m going to stand here and make sure this loser leaves.”
A small crowd of people were gathering to watch the show, and Bracken agreed that it would be best to remove Kendra from the situation. With a careful hand, he lightly touched her back and gestured toward the flower shop. “Would you like to come inside for a moment?” he asked.
Kendra didn’t verbally respond, but she let him guide her away from the scene and into the store. Bracken led her into the back room, the one he and his family primarily used to store their tools and miscellaneous supplies (vases, plastic wrappings, ribbons, the die-cut machine and materials, shears and scissors, etc.) and pulled out a chair for her to sit on. He then retrieved a couple of water bottles from the refrigerator in that room and passed one to her. She accepted it, but didn’t say anything, and continued to weep.
Concern flooded Bracken’s brain. He didn’t know who that guy had been, but after witnessing the altercation outside, he could understand why Kendra wasn’t in a condition to speak at the moment. “May I see your arm?” he asked.
Kendra hesitated, then stretched her arm out in front of her. It was red around her wrist, and looked tender. He wouldn’t be surprised if bruises started to form later. “It looks alright,” he stated. “I don’t have any ice, unfortunately, but I do have another chilled water bottle I can offer you, if you’d like to use it as a cold compress for now.”
“Th-th-thank y-you,” she gasped as she tried to control her sobs.
His heart went out to her. Was it inappropriate for him to hug her? Probably. She didn’t know him! And he was positive that he was making her feel awkward while he just stood there and watched her cry. He placed a tentative hand on her upper arm. “Would you like to have some time by yourself?”
She gave an emphatic nod at that question.
Bracken withdrew his hand and said, “You’re safe here. Stay as long as you need to. I can order in lunch for the both of us, later, if you’d like. My father will be here in a couple of hours, but I can tell him to leave you alone.” He cast his gaze around the room and found a few boxes of tissues, opened one, and set it down on a countertop near Kendra. “For you,” he said. “I’ll be right outside this door, making phone calls and otherwise managing the front. Feel free to call for me if you need anything.”
A shaky “thank you” was received, and he pulled the door shut as he exited. Later, when she’d calmed down, perhaps he’d ask her some of the questions which were bouncing around in his mind. Who was that guy? Did she want to press charges? Get a restraining order? Was her house safe from him? What had she been doing around this area?
Not that he was upset she’d been right outside - he was actually glad for that. He had no idea how she knew Warren, and couldn’t have predicted his involvement, but at the very least, Bracken was glad to have been able to help in some way.
Speaking of Warren. His entrance into the store caused the little bells at the front to ring. Bracken greeted him and said, “She’s safe, she’s in the back room here,” and pointed to the door behind him. “She wanted some privacy.”
“Thanks for your help out there,” Warren said. “That piece of shit finally fled the scene after he screamed some more. Dumbass thinks he can hurt Kendra. She’ll be staying with me, at least until he’s no longer a threat. Idiot.”
“I’m glad she has someone like you to help her,” Bracken replied. “Her wrist, where she was being pulled around, may start to bruise later. I didn’t notice any other injuries, thankfully.”
Warren placed a hand on Bracken’s shoulder. “Seriously,” he reiterated. “Thank you for your help. If you hadn’t intervened…” he trailed off. “You gave me the extra few seconds I needed in order to jump over some customers and get out there. Thanks again.”
“It was no trouble,” Bracken said. “I couldn’t watch that happen and not do something about it. Kendra doesn’t deserve that treatment. No one does.”
“It was trouble, but I’m grateful you were there.” Warren removed his hand. “Is it okay if I go see her?”
“Be my guest,” Bracken replied. “If you know her well, I really think she could use a hug.”
“That girl is my honorary baby sister,” he said. “She’ll get as many hugs as she wants, and then I’m taking her to my house where she’ll get all the comfort food she could ever need, along with the TV remote. I’ll give her the rest of the week off, if she wants.”
“She works for you?” Bracken asked, unprepared for that particular realization. She worked across the street?
“Yeah,” Warren said. “That douchebag showed up and took hold of her right when she was walking in for her shift. Busiest time of the day. She didn’t even make it to the front door.” He looked at the door behind Bracken again, who caught his cue.
“Go right inside,” Bracken told him. “Stay as long as you’d like.”
“Thanks again,” Warren repeated. “Seriously. Thank you.”
It wasn’t much longer before Warren and Kendra exited the flower shop, with the former shielding the latter from view. Bracken bid them both farewell, and best wishes, then resumed making phone calls to his customers.
Later that afternoon, shortly before Bracken left for the day, an email popped into the store’s mailbox. He recognized it as an answer to one of the surveys they always sent out after someone picked up their order. This one was from Kendra.
A five-star ranking, accompanied by the simple words, Thank you.
He broke protocol and responded back to her. You’re welcome. Please be safe.

The marriage pact - Hitch
Henry Cavill x OC Alice - multi-chapter
< Part 17 | Part 18 Hitch | Part 19 >
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: sad fluff, some body insecurities
Author’s note: Can you tell it’s Monday? It’s Monday. Gosh I feel like I need a hug after writing this. 😭
Word count: 1.764
(Link to my Masterlist)
Dear readers,
Do you ever look in the mirror, just to study the way you are slowly changing? I don’t want to say older. Just, changing. My eyes are practically always the same shade of brown, like milk chocolate, and my hair is often an equally chocolaty mess, pulled up in a bun. And I like it like that, too.
And then there is my skin. Sometimes pale like porcelain, sometimes sun kissed with a hundred small freckles, dusted over my cheeks and nose. I don’t understand why people wouldn’t like their freckles by the way. I absolutely love mine. Unfortunately now that winter has come, I mostly look tired. Thank heavens for concealer!
I wonder by the way if men also look at themselves in the mirror like that. Especially since it’s generally far less accepted and normalised for them to wear make-up, even if it is just a simple concealer.
Anyways. It’s winter and I look like a walking, talking zombie, my once fresh looking skin now showing some mean little creases and fine lines. Admittedly, I do sometimes rub my skin with a little bit of extra cream when I see those lines. Not that I am willing to invest in those luxury treatments or get my panties in a twist, but still. It does, in some way or form, influence the way you feel about yourself.
I embrace change, but today? I am most definitely wearing make-up. Thank you very much.
Done-with-winter-already,
Ali
With the loudest of sighs I flung the refrigerator door closed, my shoulders slumping visibly as I plopped down on my chair at the dinner table, dinner long cleared away from the table but my parents still sitting there.
My mom was the first to pick up on my sulking mood, her careful eyebrow raising up over her reading glasses as she put down her Swedish crossword, pen still in hand.
‘Looking for something?’ She asked casually.
‘No.’ I grumbled, looking over at dad who was still hiding himself behind a folded open newspaper. Mom sniffled and shook her head. ‘Then what is it, Ali dear?’
‘It’s just…’ My lip trembled - not even make-up could make me feel any better today. ‘..things are not working out like I want them to and..’ Sniff. ‘..it’s so frustrating.’
Slowly my dad lowered his newspaper. Usually it was my mom who dealt with any off-days on my end, which truly were sparingly. I didn’t really wish to share my troubles and thoughts with my parents too much, fearing they’d continue to see me as “their little girl”. I wasn’t a little girl for crying out loud. I was a grown woman of 37-years. I shouldn’t need my parents anymore, right?
‘Is this about eh..’ My dad started, squinting his eyes as if looking for any signs that I would go for his jugular right here and now. I didn’t. ‘..eh..Henry?’ He swallowed as I started to cry, shaking my head no.
Mom quickly moved aside her crossword and pen, reaching out her arms to smooth her warm palms over my shoulders. Even through the tight knit of my dark grey sweater I could feel the soothing calm of her touch. ‘What’s the matter baby? Tell us.’
‘UGH..it’s just.’ I sniffled and angrily wiped a few rogue tears away. ‘I..ugh..this feels so stupid. I just thought I had found a place of my own. I’ve been looking at some apartments..and..I thought I had found one. Ten minutes from here. Perfect. Finally. But..’ I furrowed my brows. ‘..I couldn’t get it. The owners chose someone else, despite me being first choice. I just got the news.’
Mom was quiet for a moment and dad swallowed harshly, the two of them deciding on how to go about it. I sniffled again and looked up. First at mom, then at dad, the both at them suddenly looking even older then I remembered them to be.
‘Oh..’ Mom finally exclaimed, seemingly relieved. ‘I thought it had to do with Henry. Woof! Thank god for that.’ She quickly pushed her chair closer to mine, wrapping a bony arm around my shoulder and pulling me in for a mom hug. ‘Come here.’ She hummed, squeezing me even tighter to her chest. ‘Hmmm! Well, you know you can stay here for as long as you want. We love having you here with us. Close to us. It gives our life a bit of…’ She leaned back and smiled, shrugging slightly. ‘..joie-de-vivre!’
I snickered, shaking my head in disbelief. ‘You could get a dog too, you know.’
‘Hahah oh we might, we might. We actually discussed it the other day. Would you like that, a dog?’ She asked at me, dad snuffing in amusement - either because he absolutely didn’t want a dog or because this whole shift of moods was amusing him.
Women.
‘That is yours to decide mom…dad.’ I gave him an exasperated look and he chuckled, quickly grabbing his newspaper again, hiding the cheeky grin that lingered on his lips.
‘But really, I am just glad that it’s not Henry. You and him are just such a fine couple together.’
‘Thanks mom.’ I smiled, wiping the last remains of my tears. I laughed. ‘I eh..actually confessed I love him the other day.’
‘OOOHHH.’ Mom near jumped with excitement and my dad quickly duck even further away behind his newspaper - he really felt uncomfortable with all this girl chat. Me and mom both grinned and before long we were deep in conversation about what had transpired between me and Henry the past few weeks. A talk that was long overdue honestly, because of course mom had HEARD  a gazillion things, but in her motherly role she had decided to wait for me to spill the beans.
Well. The beans were spilled. And I couldn’t be happier to hear how enthused and adoring my mom was about everything Henry concerned.
Henry carefully read the words on the screen of my phone, the both of us sitting on my parents couch, the rest of the house quiet as my parents were out.
It was an e-mail I had received that afternoon. Bad news. Again. As if losing that house wasn’t enough, of course more shit had to happen. He slowly furrowed his brows as he licked his lips, scrolling back up - as if checking he didn’t miss anything in his careful read.
‘O..kay..’ He finally said slowly, sighing visibly. ‘Yea..’ I bit my lower lip and reached out for my phone, retrieving it from his hesitant fingers. ‘Are they even allowed to..’ He raised his eyebrows. ‘..make such a suggestion?’
‘I don’t know Hen. Ugh. What is it with this week?! I hate it. Two weeks ago it was all fine and now this? Please let it be over..’ I sulked, reopening the e-mail of the fertility clinic and giving it a once-over. Yep, there it was really in black and white; due to a rapidly growing waiting list they suggested that me and Henry would perhaps first check out “other means of fertilisation”, before enlisting for a sperm donor. Meaning, most probably and quite rudely; just forgo the condom and see where that takes you.
There went my plan B. My back-up plan. At least for another extra 6 months of extended waiting as they had simply pushed me back on the list now I had a “partner”. Could they do that? I don’t know, but it sure was a blow in the gut.
‘What would you do in this situation, Hen?’ I asked quietly, seeing him shift his weight to turn towards me. ‘Well, believe it or not. I think this is my situation too now.’ He swallowed and reached out for my hand, tentative fingertips stroking my palm.
‘True.’ I smiled with watery eyes.
We were after all a team now. Together. Boyfriend and girlfriend.
‘I eh..’ He shook his head. ‘Okay this is going to sound so stupid now, but I want to get it off my chest. Before I did the Durrell challenge, just really a few weeks before, I had a chat with a..’ He sighed. ‘..a woman who would wish to surrogate a ..-’
‘WHAT?!’ I sat up a bit and swatted his hand away.
‘No no..Ali. It..nothing happened. I just..’ He swallowed awkwardly. ‘I guess I just started my very own path in trying to become a father. It’s a thing that’s been on my mind for a long time now. I want it. Though it immediately became clear after that conversation with that woman that I could not do it like that.’ His eyes searched mine, hoping I would not hate him for it, understand him.
I sighed. ’Gosh..I thought you were going to say you had like a kid on the way and..-’
‘Ali.’ He grabbed my wrist and looked me even deeper in the eyes. ‘There is nobody else. There is no kid on the way. It’s just you and I.’ - ‘Okay.’ I quietly nodded and swam through the depths of his stormy blue eyes. I near drowned in them.
‘So, you want to be a dad, hmm?’ A tear rolled down my cheek before I could stop it and Henry’s eyes instantly tracked it as it moved over my cold skin. With a tender finger he brushed it off, his lips curling in a sad smile. ‘Badly.’ He swallowed harshly.
He suddenly looked so fragile, like I could see right through those big bulking muscles and handsome features and see within, see the most deep and hidden away piece of Henry that I had ever gotten to see.
With pensive blue eyes he was looking down, his hand re-interlocking with mine, his other hand now aimlessly hanging by his waist. He looked a bit forlorn, lost at the sea that I had found in his cerulean gaze.
The sea that was Henry. Sometimes calm and soothing, something strong and unbending.
A sea that wanted what I wanted. Badly.
Without words I crawled over to him, using whatever strength I had to pull him into my chest, his head resting in the crook of my neck and his breath slightly shallow. He was such a large man that it was hard to actually make him surrender and lean into me. Usually he was the one who was to protect and be strong. Now it was the other way around. Sighing harshly he finally gave in, his nose sniffing as his arms slowly folded around my waist.
‘All I learned is that I don’t want to do it alone.’ He finally gulped, softly.
I closed my eyes and let a hand roam over the soft material of his sand coloured cable knit sweater. Poor bear. My poor bear. I nodded.
‘Neither do I, Hen. Neither do I.’ I pushed my nose in his neck and whispered into his skin: ‘And I think you are going to be an absolutely great dad.’
He swallowed back a cry.
‘In fact I KNOW it is so.’ I smiled, pressing up a number of kisses on his skin until I reached his lips. ‘And all other things are just a hitch, a hiccup. What I really, really need.. is.. you. Let’s..let’s make this work.’ I sniffled.

Wedding planning in 9 stages!
Planning a wedding? Congratulations! Many have probably already told you that getting ready for a wedding is a difficult process. But this should not happen to you. Here are 9 steps to planning your wedding.
First step
Approve your wedding budget.
Start building a guest list based on your budget.
Choose a wedding venue. Keep in mind that you could lose most of the guests on your list if you choose a location that’s difficult to get to.
Start exploring the selected locations.
Make sure your passports are in order and have a phrasebook if you are considering weddings abroad.
Set a date.
Choose a wedding company (those who help with the organization, bridesmaids, friends of the groom, witnesses).
Browse magazines and blogs for inspirational photos. Collect a photo in the “Inspiration” section. You can use Pinterest to create a mood board.
Start looking for wedding dresses. If you want to save money: Once Wed and Recycled Bride sell used dresses online.
Start picking up wedding rings.
Second phase
Choose a wedding venue and set a date.
Start a wedding website.
Finish creating a guest list with your families.
Come up with text for the invitations.
Find out what are the requirements in the registry office, where you plan to register.
Find suppliers. Try to narrow your list down to 3 competitors in each category, and have a conversation with each to determine who fits the style of the wedding, fits into the budget, and suits you personally.
Select graphic designers from among the guests and/or invite designers.
Stage three
Hire a photographer! Try this as soon as you have chosen a date.
Start looking for bridesmaid dresses.
Consider outfits for the groom and his friends.
Get samples of music for the ceremony and meet with the DJ to discuss your musical preferences.
Find honeymoon destinations.
Do a hair and makeup rehearsal. Try to combine it with a photoshoot.

Skyler Whitenack - Rockford Man
Details about the Whitenack family living in Adelshofen was available in action to an ad in the November, 1963 issue of Archiv fur Sippenforschung which was placed by Mr. von Frank.
He believed there might be discovered in the State Archives of Baden which would include records of feudal estates, tax payments, and so on. The records are not indexed so many packages of records would have to be gone through.
Originally Rockford market was based on 2 locaI basic materials: wheat for flour mills and lumber for saw mills. Both resources have actually disappeared from the area. Flour mills paved the way to other industries which took their put on the waterpower they had helped develop. Saw mills provided method to wood working plants which now must reach numerous miles into Canada and Appalachia for basic materials.
Much of the Palatinate was church land. In 1446 Germany was a federation ruled by ecclesiastical princes acknowledging fealty to the Holy Roman Empire. Damage of the Hohenstaufen dynasty by the popes of the 13th century had actually damaged the Holy Roman Empire and in 1400 it was a loose association of Germany, Austria, Bohemia, Holland ans Switzerland. Carinthia was mining gold as early as 1300, in 1519 it was west of Hungary and east of Switzerland and the Tyrol. Styria was just above Carinthia. Styria and lower Austira was ravaged by the Turks in 1532. In 1517 a league of 90,000 peasants in Styria and Carinthia carried out to end feudalism there and they attacked castles and slew their lords. In the Revolt in Alsace of 1562, 20,000 peasants were killed. Peasants had ruined hundreds of castles, abbeys, villages were depopulated and destroyed. Peasants wandered the highways and concealed in the woods.
Records of the Weidknecht's were discovered in Regensburg, Baden and Alsace. Baden was a margraviate in 1689.
A very little part of the output of Rockford's hardware factories is taken by her furniture factories, however most of the hardware is marketed in other places, especially in the east. Regional foundries supply metal producers with castings, but once again much of the production is offered in other areas. One furnishings factory focuses on stitching maker cabinets and actually has been acquired by a sewing device company. A slight fraction of the device tool output goes to Rockford metal fabricators. Nevertheless, the correlations between Rockford factories as sources of basic materials, devices, or markets for each other is minor. Rockford's industry makes use of basic materials which, in basic, are obtained from factories in the East; her industry serves a market which, though across the country, also is focused in the East.
In some town in the Palatinate the parochial signs up started in 1691 however the Lutheran registers did not start till 1727 or later on. A history of Alsace, Baden, Speyer, Heidelberg and Mannheim reveals that in 1689 the French Army sacked and burned hundreds of towns, hence records of the occupants would have been ruined. In 1659 Spain signed the Peace of the Pyrenees and deserted all claim to Alsace, ceding it to France. France ended up being the most effective nation in Europe. Louis XIV was the ruler in France. The French generals complied with Louis XIV and revealed to the residents of the above prospering German towns to evacuate their castles and towns as they were to be ruined by fire and sword.
In the 16th century, Bavaria included: Munich, Regensburg and Salzburg. Swabia consisted of: Baden, Stuttgart, Augsburg and Wurttemberg. Upper Rhine consisted of: Frankfurt am Main, Cassel, Darmstadt, Wiesbaden, Hesse and part of Alsace.
Although the Whitenacks were living in Baden, Alsace and Regensburg in the 1600's, they may have initially been from lower Austria or most any place in Europe.
I am revealing the very first generations referred to as Family No. 1, Family No. 2, Family No. 3, then In America calling the numerous households A, B, C, etc. If you need to know just how numerous generations have actually been traced, discover <missing the remainder of the sentence> ... Family No. 1. Martin Weidknecht, burgomaster of Adelshofen, (district Sinsheim, in the Kraichgau, Baden) (village of about 200 homes, some very old with stables connected to your homes). Martin Weidknecht was born about 1601 and died June 24, 1671, age 70 when he passed away; married before 1633 to Barbara--, who was born about 1607 and died December 25, 1687 in Adelshofen, 80 years of ages when she passed away. Whiteanack, Bleker. Whitenack, John. Whitnack, Abraham. Whitnack, Andries. Whitnack, Benjamin.
Northampton county, Pa., Bethlehem Twsp., Mathias Weidkneght was taxed for 100 acres of land, 3 horses and 2 cattle in 1785, 86 and 88.
In a list of Revolutionary War Veterans, Morris Co., N.J. the following were discussed:.
Household No. B-10:. ( Youngest kid of Blakert Whitenack) John Whitenack (Whitekanack) Sr. of Morris Co., N.J. His will was dated Mar. 16, 1799 and proved Feb 8, 1800 (Lib. 39, page 97 File 1052 M) Yeoman. Spouse, Rachel, to have house, furnishings and use of plantation while a widow. Earliest kid, Thomas, all genuine after other half's decease or marriage. Needs to Thomas die without problem, then divide in between boys: William and Peter. Sons: William and Peter  ₤ 50 each. Children: Phebe, Charity, Elizabeth, Susannah, Catarine and Ruth each 20 shillings. Executed by boy, Thomas. Witness: Philip Parker, Samuel Hawes, and John Bockoven. This John Whitekanack is thought to be Bliker Whitnek's youngest boy, who wed Oct. 12, 1773 in Sussex Co. He may be the John Whitenack who remained in the Revolutionary War (Sussex Co.). His son Peter was most likely the Sergeant Peter Whitenack who registered 7 Sept. 1814 in War of 1812 and was released 4 Dec. 1814.
Andreas Weidknecht, his spouse Margretha and 3 children came to America in 1709. They joined the fantastic Palatinate emmigration from Germany to England in 1709. Some authorities declare there were 2,000 and others 32,000 in the group. Not all of them concerned America; soe went to Ireland. Reason for emmigration: thirty years war devastated Palatinate region, greater and higher taxes to support rulers of Germany in high-end, extremem cold winter of 1709 - birds on the wing fell dead, wind in casks froze solid, etc. There were 6 cruisings of Palatinates to America, the very first four boats carried very bad emmigrants who were unable to pay for their passage. The names of the travelers on the very first 4 ships is offered however the Weidknecht family was not noted. The last two ships guests were for the most part tradespersons and spent for their own passage. The last boat did not show up till August 2, 1710 in America. They were all packed with disease obtained on shipboard so they were quarantined for 5 months on Nutten Island now called Governor's Island so physicians might examine them. They lived in camping tents while typhus raved among them. Numerous children were left orphans and they were apprenticed to leading people in New York. 84 orphans were apprenticed in this style. The Palatines had been assured 40 acres each but they did not receive this till they had fulfilled their contract. Queen Anne of England who sympathized with the Palatines in Germany made the essential arrangements to transport them to America where they were to be engaged for tar manufacturing purposes. About half of the Palatines were farmers or vine cabinets in Germany. Upon their arrival, they were used on storehouses and barrels under a strategy whereby they received 2 shillings a day, half in cash and half in credit on their represent food and requirements.
Blakert Whitenack. X. his mark.
Hans Martin Weidknecht, born Jan 28, 1697 in Adelshofen. He is the Martin Weidknecht (Wytknecht) who landed at Philadelphia Sept. 30, 1732 on board the ship "Dragon" (List 26 A, B.C.) 55 passengers on boat from Rotterdam last from Plymouth, England.
County Tax Lists. Bucks County Pa., Millford Twsp., Jacob Wideneicht was taxed for 20 acres and 2 livestock in 1785, 86 and 87.
By 1712, the census of this family showed 3 adults (kids over 10 were counted as adults) so one need to have passed away. The next census showed that Margretha Weidknechtin, widow and two kids at Diese Monschen wohnen auf dem Rarendantz (Kniskerndorf) Schoharie Valley settlement. This is near the Katskill Mountains.
June 20, 1754 Priscilla Witconek wed Joseph Hains. Joseph Hains born 7-23-1722 was the sone of Richard and Agnes Haines who originated from Northumberland, England in 1682. Joseph Hains passed away intestate in 1768 and his spouse's name was: Ann. Another Joseph Hains was sergeant 1st Bat. Salme Co., N.J. Militia Revloutionary War.
The story goes (so Christiana Harker, my granny, whose mother was Mary Whitenack before her marital relationship) that Cornelius, her daddy, was embraced by the Whitenack family about 1795 and that his parents were Dutch and were both drowned when their ship was damaged in the Atlantic Ocean. Cornelius was saved, however, and was adopted by the Whitenack's and raised as their own kid. Other members of this Whitenack family have actually never heard this tale!!.
Family No. B8:. Mary Whitenack (spelled Whitekernek in marital relationship records) born July 7, 1740 passed away June 20, 1806, age 66. Her records specify she was a daughter of Eliakim and Anna Whitenack. Some of Blakert Whitenack's records reveal the name "Eliakim" Mary Whitenack was the (1) better half of George Bockoven (Backofen) who was born Sept. 15, 1734 and died June 3, 1814. He was a Lieutenant in Revolutionary War and they lived in Morris Co., N.J. He had 8 kids by Mary Whitenack. They were married April 12, 1759 (Morristown, N.J. Presbyterian Church records). Later on transferred to Basking Ridge, N.J.
Wythnegt, Joseph & Catreina, had a son Johannis baptized 23 Aug. 1772 Joseph Whiteneck, was a private in Battalion of Rifleman, Pennsylvania June 25, 1775 and July 1, 1776 Col. William Thompson Company likewise in Cap. James Parris Company on August 1776. This Joseph may be the son of Johannas Weidknecht's son Johannas (deceased). He may have been a casualty in the Revolutionary War as there are no further records of him.
There are no more records of the household up until June 17, 1716, Anna Marie Weidknechten saw a Lutheran Baptism on the Raritan at Nine Mile Run, New Jersey. Anna Marie Weidknechten might have been Blakert Witenek's better half. Blakert Witenek's better half's name was Anna but no records of Blakert Witenek remain in existence up until about 1740.
<img src="https://pixabay.com/get/50e7d2444d56b108f5d08460962b3378133adbe64e50744f7c297fdc9248c0_640.jpg" width="640" height="426" />
A Richard Whitekenack experienced a will in Morris County on June 28, 1774. He might be a younger kid of Andres' who was mentioned in Blakert Whitenack's will as having more than one kid.
Family A9:. Abraham Witeknaght baptized April 21, 1765 (born in 1756 at 6 Mile Run, some records state). His pension record notes his birth as Feb. 14, 1757, Sourland Mts., Hillsborough Twsp. He got June, 1776 and served 2 yrs., 3 months and was discharged at end of war. He was a private and sergeant with New Jersey Troops under Captains Verbryck, Coenrath, Ten Myck, Buryea, Taylor, Van Ness and Rynear Staats and Colonels Quick, Taylor, and Van Dyke. He remained in the Battle of Springfield. He passed away Dec. 7, 1833, age 77. He was on Pension Roll under Act of June 7, 1832 Somerset Co., N.J. Revolutionary Pensioners.
Family No. 3 Andreas Weidnecht, born Nov. 1, 1672 in Adelshofen wed Margretha ------, before 1697. Andreas died in America (New York) about 1711. The location and year of Margretha's death is unidentified. Their children whom they brought with them to America are as follows: George Fred Weidknecht born about 1697 and thought to be the Johannes Weidknecht who lived and passed away in New Jersey, see below for his family; Anna Elizabeth Weidknecht, born about 1701 of whom there are no futher records regarding whom she wed or when she died. There is a possibility that Blakert Whitenack is the kid of Andreas and Margretha and was born in America about 1711/12. He is certainly carefully associated to Andreas and Margretha Weidknecht and Johannes Weidknecht as he called his kids after them. For his records, see Family B.
Martin bought 100 acres of land in Bucks county, Pennsylvania on June 26, 1734.
There were lots of John Whitenack's living about the exact same time in New Jersey which were never ever recognized in the records which makes it an uphill struggle to assemble. Revolutionary War Records list a John Whitenight of Sussex, private, and a John Whitenaught (among thes might have been Andreas Whitenaught's sone and the other the above Johannas).
The following may be Johannas Weidknecht's children by his very first marriage and roughly the very same age as Blakert Weidknecht:.
... [details on John's descendants omitted]
... [information of Andreas' descendants ommitted]
Family A5: Petrus (Peter Whitenack baptized at Six Mile Run Reformed Dutch Church, Raritan, Somerset Co., N.J. Jan. 1 1750 wed Elizabeth Johnson in 1796. Problem: Thomas.
Family A4:. Hendrick, no records offered.

Elias Weidknecht, single freeman in Northampton Co. 1786. Philip Weidknecht,""" ".
The Palatines were led by Rev. Joshua Kocherthal. In the "Kocherthal Records" which was published in Germany in 1717, Rev. Kocherthal listed Margretha Weidknecht as godparent of Johann Dietrich Marterstock 2. XII.1711 Andreas Weidknecht as godparent to Juliana Elisabetha Lastner on 21. XII.171? a Johann Michael Waidnecht was godparent to Elizabetha Mueller. Andreas Weidknecht was on the Safety Committee.
Abraham may have married several times but the only marriage there is record of is to Anne Coshun. Concern: John; Joseph; Sarah; Abraham.
His will is follows: Blakert Whitnak, yeoman. My eldest boy, Andres' eldest boy, John, 20 shillings, son Adres' child, Charity, 20 shillings. Boy, Blakert, 1/2 the plantation and the other half to my yougest son, John Whitnek, and if John pass away without concern his half to my kid, Blakert's child, John.
... [details of Cornelius' descendants ommitted]
Blackert Whitnak's birth and marital relationship records have never been situated. His relationship to Johannas Whitenaught is a secret. Blakert might be Johannas' son by an early marital relationship or he might be a sibling of Johannas and might have been born in America shortly after Andrea and Margaret Weidknecht's arrival in New York. Blakert Whitnak was not discussed as being among the emigrants to America. Thus he probably was born in New York or New Jersey. His relation to Andreas and Margaret Weidknecht (the emigrants) appears to be close as he named his children after them-- his eldest sone ws called Andreas, likewise he had a child John (Johannas) and a daughter, Margaret. If Blakert Whitnak was a son of Johanna Whitenaught who lived in the Sourland Mountain area, it would appear that they were estranged. No reference of his relationship to Johannas or any of Johannas' kids was made by Blakert in his will dated Nov. 30, 1761 proved Oct. 22, 1777 (Trenton, N.J. Book 4 pages 278-281). Blakert might not compose as his will is signed by his mark which was seen.
Records of the Weidknecht family's arrival in America are as follows:.
July 12, 1749 Jane Wit-ker-neack married Samuel Peck of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. (There is a Joseph Peck, Essex Co., N.J. will dated 1700).
... [details of Abraham's descendants ommitted] This finishes the descendants of Johannas Weidknecht which were discussed in his will, or from church records of his household. On the next page are some records of Whitenacks (Weidknechts) which have never ever been related to Johannas Weidknecht's family.
Blakert Whitnak's name was spelled in many variations, such as: Bliker, Blecker, Blakert, being the most normal kind. The name Whitnak also was spelled in various forms, such as: Witenack, Whiteanack, Whitekenack adn lastly Whitenack being the normal form. He was also understood as "Eliakim".
Family C:. Martin Whytknecht (also spelled Weidknecht, Whiteknight) showed up in America on Sept. 30, 1732 on the "Dragon" out of Rotterdam (185 on board and Chas. Hargrave, master). He was from Adelshofen, Baden and was a half-brother of Andreas Weidknecht who came to America in 1710.
Records were browsed in neighboring towns for the records of Michael Andreas and Margretha Weidknecht's childrent; these towns were Richen, Ittlingen, Borwangen, Eichtersheim, Eschelbach, Daisbach, Eschelbronn, Neidenstein, Epfenbach, Grombach and Gemmingen however absolutely nothing was found.
The earliest date of his household is of his child Mary's birth record who was born July 7, 1740. It is quite possible that he was married a minimum of 10 years prior to 1740 as he had 10 kids a minimum of. The church at New Vernon, Morris county, New Jersey burned down and possibly the majority of Blakert Whitnak's family records remained in that church.
Revolutionary War Records:. Martin Wethknecht. Martin Weidknieght. Jacob Weidkneght (7 months man of 1782, Col. Daniel Hiester, Jr.'s Battalion in Philadelphia County Militia).
<img src="https://pixabay.com/get/55e3d3454d50b108f5d08460962b3378133adbe64e50744f7c297fdc9248c0_640.jpg" width="640" height="425" />
Family A. Johannes Wietkneght (likewise spelled Witeknaght, Whiteknacht, Whitenaught, and so on) most likely married two times and perhaps 3 times. He would have been old enough by 1719 to marry and maybe have had Blakert Weidknecht. One report is that he had 4 sons in Long Island before he transferred to New Jersey. There are no birth records of such children and no marriage records, and so on of Johannas' ever living in Long Island - simply hearsay. This might be the relationship between Johannas and Blakert.
About 1751, Wilson Whitenack owned a structure set up on the northwest side of the Cornelius Eoff farm not far from the roadway to Peapack.
Household A3:. Andreas Whytkneght (Whitenack) born _______ married (1) Catherine ------- who was the mom of seven of his kids. (2) He wed Maria Hagerman on March 19, 1778. They resided in Hillsborough Twp., Somerset Co. Andreas was a personal in the Revolutionary War. His will was dated Aug. 25, 1815. To his spouse: Maria, $600, bed and bed linen in lieu of dower, Son Daniel, $100 over the other children, likewise a horse and saddle. Children Nelly and Caty, a start as excellent as my other dauthers. Residue of estate to be divided among boys: John, Hendrick, Peter, Abraham, Andrew, Joseph, Aaron and Daniel and daughters: Sarah, Nelly, Caty and Polly. Seen by John Ditmars, Henry W. Coleman, John A. Ditmars, Iventory by James Stryker and Henry Coleman. Submit No. 1706 R.
1790 Census of Pennsylvania. Male over. 16 Males under. 16 Females 1 3 5 Whiteknight, Matthias (Northampton Co. 1 1 1 Whiteknight, Phillip 1 1 1 Wightknegt, Peter (Berks Co. Rockland Twsp. ).
Since the limit lines of Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland were not settled for some years. Parts of Frederick Co., Maryland were settled in 1733 by Germans from Pennsylvania. Parts of southern Pennsylvania (Greene, Washington and Fayette) were expected to be within the border of Virginia. Part of Maryland was in what is now York county, Pa. however settlers paid taxes to Maryland.
Their children whom they brought with them to America are as follows: George Fred Weidknecht born about 1697 and believed to be the Johannes Weidknecht who lived and died in New Jersey, see below for his family; Anna Elizabeth Weidknecht, born about 1701 of whom there are no futher records as to whom she wed or when she passed away. He is unquestionably closely related to Andreas and Margretha Weidknecht and Johannes Weidknecht as he called his kids after them. His relation to Andreas and Margaret Weidknecht (the emigrants) appears to be close as he called his kids after them-- his oldest sone ws named Andreas, also he had a kid John (Johannas) and a child, Margaret.
In a re-survey of property in Frederick county, Md. John Whiteneck, Jr. owned 22 1/2 acres called "Pardner's Alley" in 1786, in 1785 he had 16 acres at "Stoney Point". In 1798 he owned 177 1/2 acres called "Hard Climbing" and also had 4 3/4 acres called "Road in the Middle" and 14 1/2 acres at "Whiteneck's Alley".
Household D:. He is reported to have had a kid Benjamin and a daughter. Benjamin had a son John who moved to Mt. Vernon, Indiana when he was 21 and he married Lucy Kindrey. Their concern: John, Will, Martin (Reverend) who moved to Illinois and Okla. and had a boy John who had 10 kids and 4 women.
The John Whiteneck who settled in Frederick county, Md. before 1776 could be the child of Johannas Weidknecht Somerset Co., N.J., deceased; the boy of Martin Weidknecht of Pennsylvania; or the kid of Samuel Whitenack above discussed. One thing should be noted - the John Whiteneck of Maryland family spelled the name: Whiteneck rather of Whitenack.
John Whiteneck voted in governmental election of 1796 (D-R) Frederick Co., Md. In studying Frederick Co., Md.
He married (1 ): Catherina Weidknecht, the daughter of Hans Weidknecht, occupant of Adelshofen who was born about 1619/20 and passed away Feb. 18, 1670, age 50 who married prior to 1641 Catherina--, born about 1611 and passed away August 17, 1679 in Adelshofen. Andreas Weidknecht initially marital relationship to Catherina Weidknecht was no Nov. 14, 1671 (she was born about 1648 and died Nov. 12, 1675 in Adelshofen.
Another marital relationship record of Virginia: Wm. Whitneck and Bidzy Lambeth on Nov. 3, 1828.
There were no Whitenacks listed in Revolutionary War Soldiers of Virginia or in the census of 1790. Nevertheless, Maryland noted:.
John Whiteneck (senior) will proved in 1776).

World Building #1
Note: this is not intended as a how to guide, this is simply my process (so far), but it may help you with your own projects.
Whenever I start a world building project, I always start with a basic map first. There’s no right or wrong way to start, this is just how I do mine. It makes it much easier for me to figure out how everything works together (weather, environment, currents, travel, mountain ranges etc) when I have a basic idea of how the land looks. The following example is my current project and subject to many changes as things evolve.
Tumblr media
I’m not going to go into how I figure out shapes and all that, it’s not particularly interesting, but importantly (for me), I line in where the equator and tropics would be. From this, we can see where things would logically sit, and I need my world to be logical, let’s blame my years of geographical and geological studies. These areas are the hottest and wettest parts of this world and where you’ll find monsoons and rainforests. Knowing where the rainforests are is a particularly important thing for me with the story involved with this project. I may expand on this in a later post.
Next thing I do is I make lists of things that I would like to figure out about my world. I normally start with the environment, but all I’ve figured out so far is rainforest, and only on the southern continent where the story will be set; that’s all I really need right now. I already have a story idea, and I want to move forward with the people, culture, customs, religion etc. I can figure the rest out later. Without further ado, here is my list of things to consider and build on.
Note: there is a lot of crossover between these sections, I’ve tried to keep to the main subject at hand with the questions asked so it’s not quite as confusing.
Culture
naming conventions (for both people and places) - how do the names work? are children named after their fathers or mothers? other family members? the alignment of the stars? a physical characteristic?

If there’s interest, I may do a series of posts of my actual answers to these questions, they’ll be much more bite-sized though, I promise.

* * *
Holding in the happy squeal that wanted to escape, Belle moved to the nearest bookcase and ran her finger across the titles, reading as she went. This one seemed to contain history books. She moved to the next and found texts on psychology and sociology; the next had works of classic literature. Continuing her exploration at the shelves that covered every wall, she found that the entire library was roughly organized by subject. The sections themselves didn’t seem to be labeled, as there was nothing to indicate that the shelf she stood in front of now, held biography books. She wondered why for a moment, before reasoning that a perfect organization system wasn’t necessary in a private library. No doubt Mr. Gold himself knew which shelf to search if he wanted information on a particular topic.
Belle worked her way around the perimeter of the room, feeling like an explorer in a strange land making her first tentative journey to learn the new terrain. A map would be useful, she thought, and realized that she could make her own. Perhaps she could even put some sort of sign above each section to indicate what sort of books were there, and label the individual books, and compile a list of every book in the library. Yes, that would be a worthwhile project to occupy her time… assuming Mr. Gold didn’t mind.
At the thought of her husband, Belle paused in her perusal of the science section. She couldn’t be absolutely sure that he was her husband, legally. The uncertainty of her situation left her feeling a bit on edge. She needed to talk to him, to find out exactly what he expected of her. He’d made it clear this morning that he was busy and did not want to be disturbed, but perhaps over lunch? Or dinner? They would take some meals together, surely?
Who was this man with the fearsome reputation, who asked nothing of her? Who had enough power and influence to evade the marriage assignment for years, who even now was circumventing the required medical exam and assigned housing? This man who seemed to want nothing to do with her, yet had given her a comfortable room and the use of this gorgeous library?
She needed to find out more about him, but perhaps not right this moment. He’d looked busy and had clearly hoped that this library would occupy her for a bit while he worked, and she couldn’t think of any better way to pass the time than surrounded by books.
Overwhelmed by the choices all around her, she resorted to closing her eyes and trailing her fingers along the books as she took several steps. When she stopped walking and looked, her hand was on a book bound in reddish-brown leather in the legal section. Not her usual reading material, but today wasn’t a usual sort of day.
She pulled the book from the shelf and chose a window seat bathed in sunlight. She pulled two fluffy pillows from the couch to prop behind her back, and opened the large volume to the table of contents. She skimmed her finger down the list till she paused on a chapter titled, “Laws Governing Marriage and Family.” She’d looked for legal resources just like this, as her graduation from university neared. She knew, from her father and other whispers from older people, that the current system of forced matches had not always been in effect. Exactly why the government had seen fit to put this system into place, no one seemed to have a good answer. All anyone knew was that the decree had gone out one day.
Belle flipped to the chapter and began to read, finding to her disappointment that it was just a repeat of everything she already knew about the current laws. She persisted anyway, hoping there would be something in this book that she hadn’t read before. The legal jargon was difficult to comprehend, forcing her to read some sentences more than once. At one point, she got up to look for a legal dictionary, finding one on the same shelf where she’d pulled her random choice of reading material.
She fell into her study, and didn’t stir till the sun had moved to the other side of the house, depriving her of its warmth. She sat up, looking around for a clock, and found that it was almost four in the afternoon. She’d read most of the day away.
Standing up and stretching her limbs after so long curled up on the narrow seat, she decided to seek out her new husband and see if he was available to talk. First though, she chose two books at random from the fiction section, and took them to her room for bedtime reading. She descended the stairs and glanced through the rooms there before approaching the office, where the door was once again closed. She knocked softly.
“Yes?” The call from inside came immediately, so hopefully he wasn’t on another call.
Belle opened the door slowly, staying in the hallway. He was still at his desk, this time reading from a sheaf of papers.
“May I come in?”
“What do you need, Miss French?”
She chose to take that as a yes, and stepped inside, staying by the door.
“I was wondering… if you had any plans for dinner.”
“As I said this morning, you can help yourself to whatever you like in the kitchen. There are prepared meals in the refrigerator and freezer. I believe the heating instructions are included with each.”
“Prepared meals?” she asked. His answer was not what she expected.
“Yes. I employ a woman who keeps house for me, and also cooks meals. She will not be here for the next month, as the government believes that we should spend our first month alone, without outside interference. However, I asked her to prepare meals before she left, so help yourself.”
“When will you eat?”
“Why does that matter?”
“I thought perhaps, we could sit down together?” she asked, twisting her hands in her skirt. “It would give us a chance to talk. We could… get to know each other a little.”
He studied her over the papers he still held, as if trying to figure her out.
“Can you honestly say, Miss French, that you want to get acquainted with the Beast of Storybrooke?” She tried not to react to that, but he saw her expression change, giving her a smile that was somehow feral. “Yes, I know what they call me. And you’re telling me that you want to sit down to dinner with a monster?”
“You don’t seem like much of a beast to me,” Belle said honestly. “You’ve treated me very well since we met yesterday. I prefer to judge people based on my own first-hand knowledge of them, rather than rumors.”
“Very commendable. But that still doesn’t explain why you want to eat dinner with me.”
“Why not?” she asked, becoming frustrated. “The alternative is that we spend the next month in this house trying to pretend that the other doesn’t exist, and that doesn’t make any sense! And what happens after the honeymoon is over? We’ll still have to maintain the illusion of being married, right? We’ll still be sharing this house, so why shouldn’t we at least talk?”
She waited, but he was unnervingly silent. She tried one last time, in a softer voice. “If I won’t have the opportunity to know another person for the next month, can’t I at least know you?”
The moment stretched between them, till he resumed reading his papers and answered without looking at her.
“Alright, Miss French. I usually eat at 6:00 pm.”
“All right. I’ll see you at 6:00.” Belle smiled at her small victory, and backed out of the room, closing the door quietly behind her.
She wandered off to see what sort of prepared foods had been left by the cook, realizing just how hungry she was. She’d been so excited by the library, that she forgot lunchtime. A bowl of fruit on the counter was too tempting, and she ate a banana to appease her growling stomach till 6:00.
By the time Mr. Gold stepped into the kitchen at five minutes to the hour, Belle was taking a casserole from the oven. Two place settings were on the kitchen island, and she was boiling water for tea, having found a cabinet with a variety of teas, some of which she’d never heard of before.
“Why are we eating in the kitchen?” he asked.
“Oh… well. I saw your dining room, but it just seemed so formal. I thought, since it was just the two of us, we could eat in here?”
He shrugged, and she took that as assent.
“I didn’t know what you like,” she said to him, “but I reasoned that your cook would only have made dishes she knows you like, so I just picked something.  This seems to be chicken, rice, and vegetables, all in one meal. Is that okay?”
“It’s fine, Miss French, but you didn’t have to go to any trouble. You’re not here to be my servant.”
“I didn’t mind,” she told him. “I used the time while it was warming, to explore your kitchen.”
She placed the casserole on the island between their plates, and set the tea to steep. The variety she’d chosen seemed like it would make a nice after-dinner beverage, and she just hoped that she’d chosen correctly.
She pulled herself onto the high stool at the kitchen island and scooped some food onto her plate, since he was still standing there, seemingly at a loss for how this dinner tradition was supposed to work. It seemed she would be compelled to lead the way.
“May I?” she asked, holding a full spoon over his plate.
“Of course. Thank you.” He took a seat finally, balancing his cane on the edge of the counter.
Belle took a bite and hummed appreciatively. “Your cook knows her business.”
“Yes, she does. I wouldn’t have continued to employ her, otherwise.” He picked up his fork and started to eat, finally, and Belle suppressed a sigh of relief. She’d started to be concerned that he would simply sit there and stare at her throughout the meal.
“So, Mr. Gold. What do you like to do?” she asked, throwing back the question he’d asked her earlier today.
“Do?”
“Yes. What are your hobbies, when you’re not working?”
“I don’t have hobbies. I have my work.”
“Alright then.” Belle altered her question, refusing to be waylaid in her quest for knowledge about her enigmatic husband of a day. “What sort of work do you do? Your… reputation doesn’t make that quite clear.”
“For the most part, I own and manage various properties in town and the surrounding countryside. My income derives from the rent on those properties. I’m also a licensed lawyer, specializing in contracts, and I own the pawn shop in town. When I’m not being compelled to stay in my house for a month at a time, I would normally spend most of my day there. The shop usually isn’t busy, so I can make my phone calls or work on the computer there as easily as--”
“You have a computer?” Belle asked, shocked enough to interrupt him.
“I have two. One at the shop and one here.”
“I’ve never known someone who had their own computer.” She stared at him. “I thought only the government was allowed to have them.”
“Money can buy you many exceptions, Miss French.”
“Right.” She filed away this new information and tried to resume the conversation. “Sorry, I interrupted you. So what else do you do when you’re at the shop?”
“Sometimes, I work in the back room repairing and restoring antiques before putting them on sale in the shop.”
“So you like antiques, and I can tell from your home that you like nice things. Do you enjoy the restoration work?”
“Yes, I do. The amount I’m able to reasonably charge for the finished product is rarely enough to adequately compensate me for my time, so I do it as much for the satisfaction of restoring a beautiful item to its former glory, as for the pay I receive.”
“So… would you say that restoring antiques is your hobby?” Belle asked, with a sing-song inflection. She was teasing him, just a little, and she’d never heard of anyone teasing Mr. Gold or cracking a joke in his presence. She waited for his reaction.
To her relief, he chuckled. “I suppose so, yes. Though it’s still my work, as well.”
“And I know you like books,” Belle prompted.
“What makes you say that?”
She gave him a disbelieving look. “Have you seen your own library?”
“Of course. Well, you’ve caught me, Miss French. I do indeed enjoy reading. Most people in town don’t know that about me, because they’ve never been allowed inside my house and therefore never seen my library.”
“So you’re saying… that I know a secret about you, that no one else knows?” she tried another gentle tease.
“I suppose you do. I hope you won’t use that knowledge against me.”
“I’m sure your business rivals would find a way to destroy you with that knowledge,” she said, mock-serious.
“You’d be surprised, Miss French, what one person can use against another.”
She took a sip of water, letting herself think about which question she wanted to ask next, finally deciding on something simple.
“Why do you keep calling me Miss French?”
“Is that not the name you gave me at the marriage ceremony?”
“It is… but from the moment we both said our vows and signed the contract, I became Mrs. Gold. I’m sure the government would want you to call me by my married name.”
He made a show of looking around the room. “Do you see any government agents in here?” She shook her head. “So we don’t have to abide by their rules, not inside this house. We talked yesterday about the invalidity of a contract entered into by force; nothing has changed since then. The government may consider us married, but I don’t think we are. Do you?”
“I don’t feel married,” she confessed.
“Well, then.”
“So why not call me by my first name? Belle,” she added, in case he’d forgotten.
“Using first names implies a degree of familiarity that I don’t believe our relationship has earned yet,” he answered.
“Right,” she said faintly, thrown off-balance by the reminder that they were still strangers to one another.
“Miss French, I apologized to you yesterday, that you were thrown into this uncomfortable situation with me. Nothing has changed since then. This barbaric system implemented by our government isn’t fair to anyone, no matter who they are paired with, but I have particular sympathy for anyone unfortunate enough to be shackled to me.”
“Well, I don’t know… it hasn’t been so bad,” Belle said.
He scoffed, not looking at her but instead focusing on his meal.
“I’m serious,” Belle insisted. “Do you know what I expected, the morning after my wedding? Do you want to know my greatest fear?”
“It’s dangerous to trust a monster with your fears,” he cautioned.
“You’re not a monster.”
“We’ll have to agree to disagree on that, Miss French, but you look like you have something you badly need to say, so say it if you must.”
“My greatest fear was that I would be assigned to marry Gaston… the man I showed you yesterday?” she questioned, to be sure he remembered. He nodded. “Or someone like him. Someone self-centered and without empathy, who would view this insane tradition as his permission to do whatever he wanted with me. What I feared was that by the morning after my wedding, I’d be curled up on the bathroom floor sobbing after being raped repeatedly all night. That my new husband would be pounding on the door, shouting for me to come out so he could have his way with me yet again… and there would be absolutely nothing I could do about it, but submit to his will. That’s what I feared, Mr. Gold.” Her voice was shaking by the time she finished, and she dabbed at her eyes with a clean corner of her napkin.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered, looking stricken. “No one should have to be that afraid.”
“Instead, I was paired with you. And you brought me here to this gorgeous house, gave me my own room, demanded nothing of me; you even gave me free run of your amazing library. So please believe me when I say, that although I would prefer not to have my husband chosen for me, given the circumstances I’m glad that I was matched with you.”
“Well, I’m glad that I could surpass your expectations for your wedding night, Miss French. Though given where you set the standard, I would have to be a monster indeed, to be any worse than that.”
She smiled at her plate, and they ate in silence for a moment.
“What were your expectations?” she asked.
“Pardon?”
“When I received my notice, I reacted with fear. What was your first reaction?”
Silence for a moment, except for their forks clinking against the plates.
“Resignation,” he said finally.
“All right. Why resigned?”
“I knew this day would come eventually. I knew that I would run out of excuses not to be matched, and be forced to marry. I knew that I would have no choice in who I married… though I have to say, I agree with you, that my partner could have been much worse.”
“Well… it’s not much, but it’s something. Here’s to not being each other’s worst option,” Belle said, raising her glass for a toast.
He clicked his glass against hers, looking bemused.
“You really don’t mind being here, do you?” he asked.
“No, I don’t. Though I do feel a bit adrift.”
“In what way?”
“Well… the system is awful, but at least when all your choices are taken away and the government tells you what to do, then… well, you know what’s expected of you. Now, I don’t quite know what I’m supposed to do, or what the rules are, or what you want from this relationship.”
“I want nothing from you, Miss French. Neither are you bound to me by any choice of mine. You could walk out the door right now, and I wouldn’t stop you.”
“But the government would.”
“Yes. Which is why I advise you to stay here, and maintain the illusion that we are like any other newly married couple, observing the honeymoon isolation period.”
“And after that?” Belle asked.
“What do you mean?”
“You made the doctor go away this morning; you spared me the indignity of a medical exam. Thank you for that, but have you thought about the next test we’ll be subjected to? The interview at the end of our honeymoon, when we’ll be asked questions about each other’s personality and habits, to prove that we’ve gotten to know each other?”
“I confess that I haven’t thought that far ahead.”
“And you know the next thing that the authorities look for, within the first few months of marriage? Signs of pregnancy. Which they won’t see with me, since we’re not… you know.”
“Indeed.”
“So there’s a very high likelihood that I’ll be compelled to undergo an invasive medical exam then, to find out why I’m not getting pregnant. The government won’t simply shrug and walk away if we appear to not be obeying their asinine rules.”
“I’m afraid you’re correct, Miss French. What do you propose we do about this?” he asked, and Belle couldn’t help smiling at his use of the word propose before she sobered.
“How about a more permanent solution?” she asked, trying not to hold her breath. She didn’t want him to see how nervous she was, but still didn’t know him very well, and what she was about to say could backfire on her spectacularly if his views were more aligned with the government than they seemed.
“Such as?” he prompted, as if humoring her.
“How about…” She looked at him directly and tried to sound decisive. “We change this arranged marriage law?”
He froze for a long moment before setting his fork down with a quiet clink on the edge of the plate, and pulling the napkin from his lap to wipe his mouth. Only then did he look at her. Belle waited, refusing to be the one to look away.
“What you’re saying would be tantamount to overthrowing the government,” he said in a quiet, controlled tone, enunciating each word clearly.
“Fine, then.” Belle leaned forward, and spoke just as clearly, but raised her voice. She’d said it now. There was no taking it back. “Let’s overthrow the government.”

Summary: Daenerys tries to get herself and her brother out of an unfortunate situation. Genre: Pirate!Jon AU Note: This is an AU to my other Pirates!AU; here, Jon is a pirate captain who captured the Crown Prince and Princess of Portugal. This is my submission for the “Free Choice” prompt for Jonerys Week, which might become a full-blown story. Hope you enjoy this little excerpt~
The pirate presented the dress to her as if he was one of her own maidservants. When she didn’t make a move to take it from his hands, he pushed forward to lay it on the chipped table with a sigh.
“The cap’n invited you to dinner with him again tonight, Highness,” he said. “And he’s offered you a pretty dress to wear for the occasion.”
She kept her distance even as she eyed the dress. It was a rich, dark purple, with elaborate ruffles on the sleeves, bodice, and hem. A patch of sunlight poured through the window to highlight the telltale shimmer of silk.  “I didn’t know your captain was a connoisseur of fine clothing.”
“If you wanna pay him compliments, I suggest you do so at the dinner table,” was the pirate’s tart response. “ ‘Cuz by now he knows better than to trust any compliments comin’ from me. Now do I have your word that you will attend or not?”
One of the girls behind her shifted, reminding her that some of them still felt uneasy in the presence of any of the men onboard. “Tell your captain I appreciate his attempt to make me think I have a choice.”
The pirate grunted and turned to leave. “He wasn’t wrong about that tart mouth o’ yours.”
“I assume my brother will be attending?” she inquired.
The pirate didn’t halt. “Ya sure that’s somethin’ to be happy about?”
The captain’s quarters that night was the same as it was the week before- spacious, with the same large table spread with foods that were luxuries to have on the high seas. There were the same candles set in their silver candlesticks, the small flames adding a rosy glow to the area around the spread.
And there was the captain himself, with that same look on his face as she was escorted through the door by a couple of his crewmen-- part indignant and part pleased.
“Was the dress not to your taste, Highness?” he asked, his voice inscrutable.
“I’m afraid that our taste in clothing is quite different,” Daenerys said as she took a seat, the material of her weeks-old dress brushing against the rough wood. “Though I am flattered that you thought of my comfort.”
He chuckled. “Not at all.”
She wasn’t fooled by his outward congeniality, but decided to hold her tongue. Her brother would surely make his appearance soon, and she didn’t want to sour the captain’s goodwill even further than what Viserys would no doubt accomplish.
It seemed the captain was not satisfied with the moment of respite. “Would it please you if I had my men bring you a dress to select for yourself, Highness?” He nodded at the two men near the door, and they exchanged looks with each other before exiting the cabin.
And leaving them alone.
“Surely your men have better things to do than ponder over a woman’s clothes.” Daenerys fought to still her panic. Why wasn’t Viserys here yet?
The captain leaned back slightly in his chair to further regard her. His fingers were tented before him and his legs crossed, looking for all the world at ease. The dark silk of his shirt and trousers seemed to absorb the candlelight that fell across his features.
Then his mouth quirked. “You needn’t worry, princess. I may be a terrible rogue, but I have my honor. You need not fear debauchery from Captain Jon Snow.”
She held his gaze, both indignant and disbelieving. How strange, she thought. He killed my men and threatens my country, and yet he acts like he’s concerned over my virtue and comfort.
The captain lifted his knife towards a large platter of fish in the center of the table. “Why don’t we eat?”
“My brother?” she inquired.
“Won’t be joining us this fine evening,” he supplied. “I would like a night of intelligent conversation for once.”
“He is the heir to the throne,” she reminded him.
Captain Snow lifted his goblet. “Then God have mercy on Portugal, for its next king certainly won’t.”
Daenerys stood from the table. Even for all the horrible and stupid things Viserys had done, he was still her brother. She could not let their enemies talk about him this way. “I demand to be returned to my quarters.”
The captain looked up at her from his seat, regarding her as he chewed. His dark eyes seemed to soften at her attempt to stand straight and tall under his perusal.
“I am sorry for any insults you have gathered from our conversation so far,” he said, surprisingly humble. “Won’t you please eat? I dislike having my guests go without.”
It still surprised her how this man could be rude and insulting in one breath and unfailingly polite in another. She almost was determined to go straight to her room anyway, but then remembered that it was now on her shoulders to discern a means of navigating her and Viserys’ current predicament.
“I thank you,” she said, nodding as she took her seat once more. Without hesitation she reached for a slice of meat covered in unfamiliar sauce. She felt the captain’s eyes on her as she took small bites, but when she lifted her gaze from her plate he was tucking in to some leafy vegetables with gusto.
For a while the only sounds were those of chewing and the clink of silver against delicate porcelain. She wondered if it had been stolen from one of her father’s ships. If she asked Captain Snow, would he give her a straight answer? Or find her concerns amusing, as he so often seemed to do?
She kept her eyes on her plate, but found her curiosity drawing their attention to the walls of his cabin. They were sparse, with flags from several different nations tucked in one corner. A small chest rested nearby, and a small table rested at the foot of the bed.
“Is the food to your liking, Princess?”
Captain Snow was staring at her again. She tried to hide her discomfort. “The food is to my liking, yes.”
He smirked. “I thought it was only your brother making you so quiet. Are you usually so unwilling to engage in conversation at the dinner table?”
She took a deep breath. “What do you want?”
The captain’s smirk was unmoved. “The same as before. The gold you two will fetch will go a long ways towards helping me and my men.”
“Surely you don’t expect me to believe that the Crown’s stolen gold and our ransoms will go towards altruistic purposes.”
Captain Snow chuckled. “And what would you know about that, lass?”
“I know that there is something you want more than gold and more than the humiliation of Portugal’s crown prince and princess.” She tightened her grip on her knife and fork as she took the plunge. “You want an end to the war.”
Captain Snow stopped chewing. He put down his knife and leaned back in his chair. Silence fell to fill the space between his contemplation and her anticipation.
“Are you trying to tell me that you know a way of ending hostilities between Scotland, England, France, and Portugal in one fell swoop?”
“I know I am but a young girl, unused to the ways of war and inexperienced besides.” Daenerys lifted her gaze. “But yes.”
“Is that a fact?” The captain didn’t bother to restrain his disdain. “Please, princess, do tell what magical solution you have that grown men twice your age have yet to come up with.”
“It’s all simple really. All you have to do is marry me.”
Of all the things Jon anticipated when inviting the princess to dinner tonight, an offer of marriage had no place on that list.
“Did I hear you right just now?” he asked, just to make sure.
The princess scowled. “Surely you are familiar enough with the implications of holy matrimony, despite your unfortunate occupation.”
“Holy matrimony usually ends in disaster for those in my unfortunate occupation, princess.” She really wasn’t joking. “What sort of madness is this?”
“The sort of madness that will peacefully end the discord between our persons and our countries,” the princess countered. She straightened in her seat, a habit Jon found to signal her attempt to be imposing. “Surely even you must consider that a better prize than gold.”
“I must consider nothing, especially when it’s a plan concocted by a lass who clearly has her corset laces too tight.” He couldn’t help his smirk at the thought. “Were you not my honored guest, I would gladly offer my services to relieve you of your obvious suffering.”
“You could relieve me of far more than that, were I to be your wife.”
His amusement stopped cold.
“Though of course there are certain things I would expect of my husband.” She stood up from her seat.
Seven hells.
Princess Daenerys wandered to a corner right to his left and began rummaging around. “Do you have a pen and paper available? It would be best to have our contract in writing.”
Seven quiffing hells, this woman was serious!
He pushed back from his seat and grasped her hand to halt her intrusion. It was slender and soft in his grip as he pulled her in to his form.
“While I’m flattered that you’re not too upset about jumping into my bed,” he murmured, his nose almost touching hers, “I think you should reconsider before we both do something we regret.”
To his satisfaction, a small quiver ran through her lips to her fingers. Those pretty eyes of hers darted to his hold, their feet, then finally back to his face. Was this her closest encounter with a man who was not that idiotic brother of hers?
“I did not expect you to regret Scotland being removed from a costly war,” she eventually said.
If demanding an alliance between Scotland and Portugal was all it would take for her to consider falling into his bed, he would’ve abandoned his plans for golden ransoms a long time ago. But he couldn’t help laughing as he stepped back to look her more fully in the eye.
“I wonder how you plan to announce your happy nuptials without all of Portugal declaring you mad,” he said. “Because I can tell you for a fact that all the houses and clans of Scotland would be bouncin’ with joy to have me kiss the gunner’s daughter if I breathe even a word of this.”
And that was the snag that the princess simply couldn’t see. Did she truly believe that either of their countries would suddenly accept a bastard lordling marrying into a house as pure-blooded as that of Targaryen?
“It is true that heads will turn,” Princess Daenerys admitted. She was looking down at her hands, clutching at the cloth of that ragged dress she insisted on wearing despite his attempts to allow her otherwise. “But I’m sure that several of my noblemen would change their minds at the betrothal gift you will bestow upon me. My father and king, most of all.”
“And what gift would that be, Your Highness?” Jon asked. The countries’ entire weight in gold? The Fountain of Youth? Or perhaps she thought a map of the city of El Dorado would not be too paltry a gift.
“Scotland’s complete and utter removal from the slave trade,” was her answer instead, and for the second time that night he could feel the wind knocked out of his body.
May the Lord help him, how was he to resist the idea of taking this extraordinary woman for wife when she would not stop taking his breath away?

English – ENG3UK, Unit 4.1 Assessment for Grading, Change Campaign. Essay, Spoken Word, and Article.
Presented by Lucian Janzen.
.
Introduction:
 .
As all of you are sure to know by now, the Ontario Provincial Government has decided to enforce the COVID-19 quarantine. In order to protect all Ontarians, our government has stated that we must only leave the house for necessary errands, and that we must be careful to stay six feet away from others not in our families. This is also known as social distancing, which is a term that has, for the most part, only emerged in the last few months. Many employees have been laid-off, to reduce the spread of the Corona Virus, and, for the time being, schools are required to operate from home. Stores have closed all over the province, and even some restaurants or stores that aren’t required to close, have had to, because of the lack of business. We are all desperate for people already, and it is most likely that many of us have already broken at least one of the rules established during this time. In this change campaign, I will be sharing personal experiences, and the experiences of friends and family. I will be listing the negative consequences of the COVID-19 quarantine, and why it should be over. Ontarians are ready to resume their social lives again. We are ready for this quarantine to end. We are ready to be free.

Essay:
The COVID-19 Quarantine: When Will It End?
Aren’t we all tired of our homes? Aren’t we all tired of waiting weeks for our online orders to arrive? Aren’t we tired of the COVID-19 quarantine? Life has truly changed for everyone. Parents are now either unemployed or working from home, and kids are schooling from home. We all want to be able to see other people again. This quarantine is wearing people out. When will it be over? There are three reasons that this quarantine should end: First, our need for social connection, second, the misfunctioning of schools, and finally, the unemployment of Canada’s workforce.
The first reason for this quarantine to be over is because of our need for social connection. Although many may not realize it, our need for people is deeper than just preference. The Bible says in Genesis 2:18, “Then the LORD God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.’” Just as God realized that it isn’t good for us to be alone, we realize that we need to be with other people. We all need to be able to hug and touch and high-five our friends again. Although supporters of the Corona virus quarantine would argue that ending the quarantine early would enable the virus to spread rapidly, it has been proven that the number of COVID-19 cases has started to diminish. Proof of this is shown by the reopening of Quebec. In Quebec, “Three types of business will be allowed to reopen in May: Stores, not including those in shopping malls, construction and civil engineering businesses, and manufacturing businesses.” In Ontario, even weddings and funerals are limited in the number of people they allow. Weddings are only able to host five people, including the minister, and funerals are only able to host ten people, including the minister. This would mean that a bride and groom would have to choose between a friend or family member to attend their wedding. The limit of ten people at a funeral only allows nine of the family to be there! When has Canada decided to restrain the sharing of the joy of marriage, or the comfort of mourning families?
The second reason to end the quarantine is because of the lack of properly functioning schools. School-children are not learning their course material properly, as they are overwhelmed by the distractions of doing school at home, and by the lack of a proper routine. Many children choose to complete their assignments in the afternoon, and this procrastination leads to late submissions for certain students. Also, proper internet access for school children isn’t always available, and this is causing problems as certain children are not able to complete their assignments online. Children’s grades are suffering as a result of this quarantine. Teachers represent another part of the negative aspects of the quarantine. Because they are unaccustomed to teaching online, they are also being overwhelmed with a larger workload. Stress for teachers has increased during the quarantine, and this is leading to negative symptoms for some of them. Online schools are also suffering from this quarantine. As many more students have enrolled in online courses almost without any warning, guidance counsellors and teachers are also being overwhelmed by students’ questions and marking course work. Grades are not received by students for longer than the appointed time. Schools are not functioning properly, and this is resulting in stressful situations for both teachers and students.
The third and final reason to end the quarantine is because of the unemployment of Canada’s workforce. Those who are usually employed now find themselves at home without a source of income. In certain parts of the USA, the crime rate has increased as individuals find that they are running out of money, and they turn to crime to compensate for their unemployment. It would be naïve to think that Canada’s crime rate has stayed consistent during this time, if other countries have been struggling with this problem. Workers all over Canada have been laid off for the time being which has resulted in major economic downturns. Factories, mines, stores, and restaurants have all been forced to shut down, leaving thousands of Canadians without work. Although essential services, which include “food, pharmacy, manufacturing and transportation services”, have been left open, they haven’t been able to make much of a profit. Even though essential businesses are still allowed to stay open, some are not able to make enough of a profit to stay afloat, as business has ground to a halt. Although the Canadian government has sent out cheques across Canada to those who aren’t working, not everyone received payment, and some are desperate for money. The unemployment of Canada’s workforce is affecting not only our economy, but also those living in it.
There are three reasons that this quarantine should end, and they are our need for social connection, the misfunctioning of schools, and the unemployment of Canada’s workforce. Canadians are wearing thin because of this quarantine, and it is only a matter of time before they break. Isn’t it time for this quarantine to be over? The dangers of the Corona virus are real, but how much longer will we value the physical health of Canadians over their mental health? The COVID-19 quarantine needs to end.

This COVID-19 Quarantine
 .
This COVID-19 quarantine
has left me by myself.
Alone at home, with many moans,
and its just me and my bookshelf.
 .
This COVID-19 quarantine
is cancelling events.
Nowhere to go, I’m feeling low,
no more presents or camping tents.
 .
This COVID-19 quarantine
is causing tons of stress.
School’s backed up, and I’m on my rump,
I guess no one cares how I dress.
 .
This COVID-19 quarantine
makes me want friendly ties.
When I’m able, to be stable,
I will make all guys my allies.
 .
This COVID-19 quarantine
will be the end of me.
Toilet paper, we’ll buy later,
“Let us be free!” is my one plea.

My Experience Throughout the COVID-19 Quarantine
 .
Things are so different now. Church is at home, my youth group glitches out on Zoom, and even piano lessons are completed through Skype. Although these inconveniences may seem small, there are also bigger problems as a result of this quarantine. I have had problems as a result of the quarantine, as well as my friends and family.
Several of my family’s friends have been laid off for the time being, although it does not seem like they will start to work again soon. I know that this is the case for many families across Canada, and for some it has really affected their spending. Certain families are struggling to make ends meet, even with the cheques that the government sent out for many of those who are unemployed. Many Canadians are out of work, and it is having a huge impact on the economy. This is one of the reasons for the toilet paper and hand sanitizer shortages all over Ontario.
My family has also been affected by the quarantine. We are trying to build an addition at our home, but the work has slowed down as deliveries take more time and our income isn’t having the usual supplements. The township will not send out inspectors for the mandatory observation. Instead, we need to hire, at an additional expense of hundreds of dollars, a licensed engineer. It would seem as though our township is letting the engineers die instead of their own employees. The quarantine is costing us, and many other Canadians, more money.
Two families that we are friends with recently lost their mother to cancer. Because of the restrictions on the number of people at a funeral, only the husband and the children of the mother were allowed to attend the funeral. In-laws and grandchildren were not able to say their final farewell. Weddings are also limited in the number of people who attend. Only five people are allowed, compared to the ten for funerals.
Personally, I have also experienced problems because of the Corona virus. Because online schooling programs are backed up, I have had trouble getting feedback from teachers. For example, on March 30, 2020, I submitted an assessment for one of my ILC courses. By May 4, I had still not received my grade. It had been a month, and I had not received a grade for one assessment. ILC assured me three times that I would receive the mark, two times saying that I would receive it in one or two days, but those deadlines had come and gone.
I am sure that many people would be able to relate to my stories, and perhaps share some of their own. This quarantine is starting to cost Canadians. The unemployed are having trouble finding work, and those who are employed are trying to find enough work to stay afloat. How much longer will the Canadian government value our physical health over our mental health? How much longer will this quarantine last?

Reflection:
 .
Campaign Texts
My campaign is an example of persuasive communication because I used at least three persuasive techniques and three literary devices in each of my campaign pieces.
My campaign materials create a unified message as they all clearly show the negative effects of the COVID-19 quarantine, and why it should end.
If given the opportunity, I would have prepared everything that needed to be prepared before starting my assessment. Things started to change when I completed some of the assessment, so I had to go back and switch out some ideas, words, and phrases.
I used my skills as a writer to write my essay, spoken word, and article. My writing skills helped me to write accurately and appropriately. My speaking skills were used when I recorded my spoken word. I used fluctuations in tone and dramatic pauses to help capture my audience’s attention. My skills as a media producer were put to use when I decided how to record my spoken word, which tools to use, and where I would record it for the best effect.
 .
Digital Platform
I chose to use Tumblr for my digital platform, as I had already created a blog on this website. I thought that my blog, which is called “School Projects”, would be appropriate for this assessment.
I rejected the idea of creating a mock-up of a digital platform, as I realized that this would take a lot of extra time and energy. I instead decided to use a digital platform that I was already using.
I used my skills as a writer to effectively write my essay, spoken word, and article. My writing skills helped me to write accurately and appropriately. My speaking skills were used when I recorded my spoken word. I used fluctuations in tone and dramatic pauses to help capture my audience’s attention. My skills as a media producer were put to use when I decided how to record my spoken word, which tools to use, and where I would record it for the best effect.

oooooh for the prompt thing maybe 12 and grimmons??
You and I must be sharing brainwaves because I’ve been writing a longish one shot with literally just this idea that I’ve just finished up. So, here goes, hope you like!
List of prompts I’m currently accepting from

Nuptial Law
Simmons didn’t make a habit of poking around in Grif’s room.It had looked – and smelt – like a pig sty from the moment he moved into it,and had been largely free of visitors for that exact reason. Aside from openingthe door each morning and yelling until Grif made some sort of response,Simmons hadn’t set foot in the room for weeks.
Fate, however, decided to force his hand. Grif was adamantthat he had signed the release papersSimmons had pushed under his door, despite forgetting to bring them back beforeleaving for his final three day patrol. Simmons needed to submit them beforefive o’clock this evening, so venturing into Grif’s room had been the onlyoption.
He hadn’t meant tosnoop. Only, there was so much rubbish piled everywhere, he had to keep movingthings to look for the papers, and in his defence, Grif hadn’t hidden it all that well-
Alright, so he had been snooping a little. But he alsohadn’t expected to lift yet another pile of dirty laundry to find a thickleather-bound book underneath it.
He blinked down at it for a few moments, frozen with thedirty clothes still in his hands, not even registering the title through his surprise. He couldn’t remember seeing Grif with a book…well, ever.
It was only after a few seconds that he properly read thegold-lettered title on the front cover: NuptialLaw. That was even more confusing. Not only was Grif reading, but hismaterial of choice was a dusty law tome?
Simmons put the laundry down and flipped through it, butthere was no bookmark to indicate what Grif might have been looking at.Stumped, he went back to the Contents and read down the list. It coveredeverything from marriage to divorce, though the latter seemed to be the muchlarger section. The book was, according to the title page, specific to thejurisdiction of Chorus.
As Simmons put it back down again he finally spotted thepapers, half-hidden beneath a magazine on Grif’s cluttered desk. He picked hisway across the floor, secured his prize, and left the room as quickly aspossible, the mysterious book for the moment banished from his immediateattention.
It was only when he was giving the papers (which Grif had, mercifully, signed) a final once over before he submitted them that theconnection clicked. As Grif was leaving the army, he’d no longer have to movearound the galaxy at the will of higher command – and whoever he wanted to livewith would no longer need a formal bond of matrimony to ensure a placementtogether.
Which meant he might be thinking of ending the hastilyagreed upon marriage their panicked younger selves had entered into in anattempt to keep from being separated when they got transferred from BloodGulch.
“Are you alright, dear?” the UNSC admin rep asked kindly.“You look very pale all of a sudden.”
“Fine, thank you,” Simmons forced out. He took a few deepbreaths, trying to make the hollow pit of shock and anxiety in his stomach goaway, and then handed her the papers. “These are the discharge papers Idiscussed with your colleague last week. For Captain Dexter Grif and PrivateKaikaina Grif.”
“Interesting,” she said, taking them from him. “Mostly I’mdoing sign-ups, these days.” Her eyes scanned the paper slowly. When shefinished she nodded and stood, smiling at him. “I’ll get these filed for you. There might be a delay in processing, we’re working on a shoestring connectionout here. Sometimes we can’t get through for hours. Honestly, it’s one step upfrom working out of a tent!”
“Hopefully we can get something better set up for you soon,”Simmons said woodenly.
“Oh no, I’m used to it,” she said, leaning on her desk.“Spent most of the war in tents registering refugees. Sometimes we processedover fifty enlistments a day. So many orphans with nowhere else to go.” Shesighed heavily. “But I’m sure you know what that kind of situation is like, just as well as me. Do you need to update anything while you’re here?”
“It should all be up to date. Thank you.” Simmons left thetiny, slightly ramshackle building in a hurry, eager to get out from under therep’s penetrating gaze.
It doesn’t meananything, one half of his brain tried to tell him as he made his way downthe street. So he had a book thathappened to include this planet’s laws for divorce. So what?
You should haveexpected this, another voice said. Younever told him anything. He still thinks this is a marriage of convenience.
It is still a marriage of convenience, Simmonsthought, shoulders sinking in despair. That’sthe problem.
He went back home on autopilot, tapping in the codes for themain door and his own apartment without even thinking about it. He flopped onhis bed and closed his eyes. You shouldhave said something, a voice inhis brain kept repeating, You should havesaid something years ago.
A knock sounded on his door. “Come in,” he called, sittingup.
Kaikaina stuck her head around the door, beaming at him.“You’re back! How’d it go, all done?”
He nodded. “The papers are being filed. They’ll send us amessage when they’ve been processed, I guess.”
“Awesome! Thanks for taking care of it, Simmons.” Then shelooked at him closer, narrowing her eyes. “You look upset,” she accused.
“I’m not!” he said, reacting on instinct. She didn’t lookconvinced. “I’m not,” he repeated, hoping he sounded firmer. “I’m fine.”
“Even with your best bud leaving the army and you staying?”
Grif’s sister had an uncanny way of guessing just what itwas that bothered him. Still, Simmons nodded. “It’s good he’s staying here. Hehates being in the army.” And that was thetruth. Despite his own feelings about leaving Grif behind, he’d never seen hisfriend so happy as when the UNSC official said he was eligible for anhonourable discharge on medical grounds. Grif would be much happier here, andSimmons could be happy about that.
Kaikaina was still looking at him suspiciously. “Are yousuuuure?” she asked.
“Yes, Kai, I really am fine,” Simmons said, irritated. “Didyou want anything else?”
She gave him a long, considering look, then said, “Nope. Seeya,” and backed out of the room.
Simmons closed his eyes, rubbed his flesh hand over them, then stood and went to his desk. Grif wouldn’t be back for another two days; hecould just ignore it until then. Or until Grif came and confronted him with it– whichever came later.
For now, he had work to do.

True to form, Simmons hadn’t been able to stop worryingabout it. For most of two days now it had been lingering at the back of hismind, a nagging worry that he had no way to settle. It wasn’t as if he couldget Grif over the radio and demand to know if he wanted a divorce or not;instead he had to sit on his hands and pretend nothing was wrong. And, beinghonest, there was no way he’d be able to confront Grif about it even when hegot back. He’d have to wait for Grif to come to him.
Which, knowing Grif, would probably happen later rather thansooner.
The combined team of Kaikaina and Donut had figured out thatsomething was wrong, but Simmons was determined not to breathe a word. Neitherof them knew about the marriage – no one but Grif and himself knew – and hewanted to keep it that way.
Simmons wasn’t in the motor pool when Orange Squad got back, but Grif caught up to him in the mess hall. Simmons didn’t hear him sit downover the banging and hammering coming from the wall a few metres away, where aconstruction crew were patching up a hole in the rickety structure. Having beenabandoned for almost five years, Hana City wasn’t in great shape, though theywere making the best of it.
“Hey, Simmons,” Grif said, catching his attention.
“Oh,” he started, then recovered enough to sound somewhatcasual. “You’re back. Everything okay?”
Grif shrugged, but he was smiling a little. “Quiet. But whatdo I care? Last ever patrol.” He took a large bite out of his baked potato. “Solong as you remembered to submit the forms.”
“After having to wade through the sea of garbage in yourroom to get them, yes, I did,” Simmons said.
Grif frowned at him. “What, you went poking through mystuff?”
Was there something Iwasn’t meant to find? “I went poking through your dirty laundry,” Simmonsretorted. “Which, by the way, is disgusting. I can’t imagine the state your house is going to be in when you getone.”
“Maybe he’ll be house proud?” Donut put in from Simmons’left.
“Judging by previous evidence, I seriously doubt it.”
Grif just gave him the finger and turned back to his plate, while Donut launched into a summary of how hewanted to decorate his own house when he finally left the army. Simmonstuned him out, nodding vaguely at the right moments, and considered Grif. Washe going to come forward about the divorce? Or was the book nothing? He didn’tlook any different, or like something was bothering him; just dug into his foodwith his usual gusto.
“I’m still stuck between violet and periwinkle,” Donutlamented, as if the fate of the universe hung on the decision.
“Violet,” Grif and Simmons said, almost exactly in synch.
They sat eyeing each other with mild surprise while Donutgrinned and said slyly, “You’re so cute, you guys.”
“Shut up, Donut,” Simmons muttered, turning back to hisfood.
/
Simmons remembered every detail of the wedding, despite thefact that it had barely merited the name. It hadn’t been anything more than thetwo of them, sitting in front of the computer screen in the caves late onenight, signing all the paperwork needed to make the marriage legal. Vic hadcertainly been enjoying himself, babbling about how he never thought he’d getto officiate a real wedding. Simmons even remembered most of that, burned ontohis memory along with everything else that had happened that night.
He hadn’t felt like that at the time of course. Then he’donly felt relief, and a lingering sense of shock that Grif hadn’t just laughedin his face when he suggested the idea.
The officers from Control had visited the bases just afterthe Omega incident, asking lots of questions, and then declared that they hadthree weeks before receiving transfer orders. The idea of moving to a new basewith entirely new people had sent Simmons into cold sweats, and Grif had foundhim having a minor freakout in his bunk a few hours after the officers left.
“You’ve been in awhile,” he’d said, “You could probably askfor a discharge?”
“And do what?” Simmons had snapped, for a moment forgettingthat Grif knew nothing about his circumstances outside of the army. That Grifdidn’t know Simmons had nothing to go back to, nothing to fall back on.
Grif had shrugged and flopped down onto his own bed. “All Iknow is I’m not exactly ecstatic aboutmoving to a new base with a new CO who’ll probably want me to actually do stuff.”
That had made Simmons grin a little. “Yeah, god forbid youactually have to contribute to the team.”
“Fuck off Simmons, you’re the one freaking out about it.”
“I just-” Simmons had sighed heavily. “I just hate having tobe the new guy. I only just got used to being here.”
“I mean…” For once, Grif had sounded hesitant. “We could askto transfer to together. If you want.”
“It doesn’t work that way,” Simmons had said. “I swear, didno one but me read the reg book?”
“What way does it work, then?” Grif had demanded.
“You can only ask to be stationed together if you’remarried,” Simmons had said without thinking.
There had been a long silence, in which they’d both slowlylooked up until they met each other’s eyes.
“You’re not thinking about it,” Simmons had whispered.
“I mean…” Grif had shrugged. “Not like I wanna be on my owneither.”
And that had been that. It seemed such a stupid decision, inhindsight, especially seeing as they hadn’t even needed to use it; theirtransfer orders had moved them together without any outside influence. Simmonshad asked Grif later if he wanted to end the marriage, but he’d said leave it.After all, there was no telling when they’d be transferred in the future.
That had seemed more than reasonable at the time, andSimmons had stopped thinking about it. Almost forgotten about it, in fact.
Until he’d gone and fallen for the stupid idiot.
/
Three weeks later, and Simmons had almost managed to forgetabout the whole law book incident. It was still there, a persistent littleworry niggling away in the back of his head, but for the most part he couldbanish it now. Grif hadn’t come forward and said anything; Simmons had probablyoverreacted.
Still, he felt a thrill of nerves when he received confirmationthat the Grif siblings’ papers had been processed, and they were officiallydischarged.
He tapped out a quick message to Grif before he forgot. Your confirmation letters just came through, you and Kai are officially discharged.
Grif replied a lot quicker than Simmons expected him to. That’s great. I’ve been meaning to talk toyou about it, actually. Can you meet me after you’re done?
Simmons stared at the screen for a moment, his heart beatingfast. This is it, he thought, he’s been waiting until now to tell me.
He forced himself to take a few deep breaths, to try andpush down the feeling of panic in his stomach. It was fine. He could handlethis. Yeah sure. Where?
The living room isfine.
The building they’d converted into makeshift barracks hadoriginally been an apartment block, so the large apartment Red Team shared hadcome with an extra room they’d decided was a living room. They didn’t exactlyhave a couch, so wooden pallet crates had to suffice. Simmons found Grif inthere when he got back after his shift, standing next to the window and lookingslightly nervous.
Not as nervous as me,Simmons thought to himself, taking a deep breath. God, what if I can’t do this?
Grif noticed him before he had the chance to talk himselfinto bolting from the room. “Hey,” he said. His voice sounded casual, butsomething about his movement as he turned from the window and crossed his armswas off; he was stiff, a little jumpy.
“Is something wrong?” Simmons asked. He figured they mightas well get to the point.
“No, it’s-” Grif cut himself off, looking almost…anxious. Itwas so odd to see him look that way that it took a moment for Simmons torecognise it, by which point Grif was saying, “It’s er, about our marriage.Thing. Y’know.”
There it was, plain and in the open. Simmons firmlysuppressed the sting of hurt that rose in his chest. Now that they were doingthis, he might as well make it as quick and painless as possible for both ofthem. “I know. I found that book you had when I was looking for your papers,”he admitted. “I guessed then what you, y’know…wanted.”
Grif looked thunderstruck. “You did?”
“Yeah. I mean, it’s kinda obvious, right?” When Grif justlooked confused, Simmons continued, “And it’s fine. Like, I am absolutely finewith it. It’s perfectly understandable, now you’re leaving the army...” I should have expected it, he thought, but didn’t say. The words sounded too bitter in his head to speak aloud.
“It’s…perfectly understandable,” Grif repeated slowly. Hisface had suddenly gone still.
“Of course it is.” Simmons didn’t know what else to say, andthe silence stretched as Grif just stared at him, his expression unreadable.Desperate for something to fill the silence, Simmons said the first thing thatcame into his head. “I don’t feel the same way,” was what came out, and heimmediately fought the impulse to slap his hands over his mouth.
Pain jumped lightning-quick across Grif’s face. “You…youdon’t feel the same way,” he repeated, almost whispering.
“But that doesn’t matter,” Simmons said hurriedly, “becauseif you feel-”
“No, y’know what, Simmons, it’s fine, I’m just gonna-” Grifstarted walking backward toward the other door. “Look I’m just gonna, I’ll justgo, we don’t have to talk about this-”
“Wait, don’t we need to sign things- I mean if you have thepapers-”
“Papers?” Grif asked, pausing in his flight toward the door.
Simmons fought the urge to yell. He was already having to gothrough with this, he didn’t need Grif making it harder- “The divorce papers,Grif. Y’know, the ones you have to sign. To get divorced.”
“You want to get divorced,” Grif said, his voice barely morethan a whisper.
“No!” The word came out before he could stop it, and hereally did put his hand over his mouth this time. God, of all the occasionshe’d had, now was when his mouth feltthe need to run away with him and confess? He lifted the hand from his mouthand said, “I mean, I know that you want to, so I’m-”
“What?” Grifinterrupted. “That I want to? Wherethe hell did you get that idea from?”
“I just told you! From that book you had!”
“It was a book about marriage!” Grif protested.
“It was a book about marriagelaw, featuring a large section on divorce,” Simmons argued back.
“So you just assumed-”
“You’re leaving the army!” Simmons cut him off. “The wholereason we got married in the first place is moot now because you won’t bemoving around anymore so I assumed you wanted to move on with your life andfind someone else so you needed-”
“That’s not why,” Grif said quietly, and Simmons’ ramblingexplanation died in his throat.
“Then-”
“The original reason we got married doesn’t matter anymore, yeah,” Grif says. He’s twisting his hands together, an unconscious nervousgesture Simmons has never seen him make, and he’s looking somewhere in thevicinity of Simmons’ shoulder instead of his face. “So I wanted to ask you ifyou…maybe wanted to…I mean, if you wanted to make our marriage of conveniencea…normal marriage. Of…” Grif swallowed, then looked up and locked eyes withhim. “Of love.”
Simmons opened his mouth, then shut it again. He couldn’tseem to make words form through the shock that felt like ringing in his ears.Had Grif really said-?
“Simmons, dude, don’t BSOD on me after I’ve just said that,”Grif said, sounding more nervous than Simmons had ever heard him.
“Yes,” Simmons whispered; then, louder, “Yes. I want to- Ialways meant to- Yes.”
Grif’s face broke into a tentative smile. “You mean it?”
Simmons nodded slowly. “I always meant to- I mean,” hecleared his throat, “I should’ve told you ages ago, about how it…wasn’t reallya marriage of convenience for me anymore.”
The laugh that came from Grif sounded slightly choked.“We’re not exactly the best fucking communicators in the galaxy.”
“No.” Simmons paused, then he laughed, short and derisive.“I really thought you wanted to divorce me!”
Grif snorted. “Yeah, you would jump to the worst conclusion,Mr. Doom and Gloom.” He grinned, the expression a little hesitant. “But Idon’t. Like…ever.” He took a few steps forward, closing the distance betweenthem.
Simmons sniffed, smiling as well. “That’s good enough forme,” he said quietly, and then Grif was pulling him down into a kiss.
/
“I cannot believe that I have known you, supported you, shipped you, for nigh on thirteen yearsnow, and not once did you ever tell me you were married!”
“Technically, Donut, we weren’t married when we met,”Simmons pointed out.
“That’s even worse! You didn’t invite me to the wedding!”
“It wasn’t exactly a top hat and tails affair,” Grif saidwith a snort.
“Even so!” Donut scowled at both of them. “I am still offended.”
Simmons was beginning to regret his split-second decision totell Donut everything. It was only because he’d happened to walk in on them inthe living room, still kissing, and it had all come out-
“Just wait til I tell Tucker about this,” Donut said, sounding gleeful.
Grif glanced at him, and Simmons shrugged. “May as well leteveryone know,” he said, trying to sound casual. Inside, he felt something warmglowing in his chest. The thought of everyone knowing was a little scary butalso…good.
He didn’t miss the way Grif had a little smile on his face, too.
“I know what you can do to make it up to me,” Donut saidwhile he tapped out a message on his comm pad.
“Oh yeah?” Grifasked, affecting boredom.
“Let me plan you a properwedding.”
“We don’t even know if we’re having-” Grif looked over atSimmons. “I mean…are we having…?”
“I guess? It’s not like the first one was a great romanticoccasion.”
Grif grinned, then tried to hide it as he looked back atDonut. “Then, yeah, I guess you can do it. But I reserve power of veto.”
“We do,” Simmonscorrected.
“Fine.” Donut looked mostly mollified by the prospect. “I’llgo get my scrapbook.”
“Scrapbook?” Grif and Simmons questioned at the same time.
Donut rolled his eyes at them over his shoulder. “I committed to this ship. Trust me, I’ve spent time on this wedding plansscrapbook.” With that he disappeared through the door, humming to himself.
“Promise me there’ll be no lace,” Simmons said under hisbreath.
Grif laughed, and reached out to take his hand. “Sure –that’s a hard no on lace from me.”

FROM A BAR CALLED BUKOWSKI'S TO THE OLDEST POETRY BOOKSTORE IN AMERICA
Each fall, hundreds of visitors flock to Boston to watch the leaves along Beacon Hill’s iconic cobblestone streets erupt into various hues of orange, red, and gold. Around the same time, bibliophiles (and erstwhile tourists) visit the Boston Book Festival in Copley Square to peruse tents filled with poetry, memoir, YA, fiction, and nonfiction, as well as literary magazines and local publications. The Boston Public Library provides a perfect backdrop for this celebration of Boston’s vibrant literary scene, and the diversity in featured voices (some Pulitzer Prize winners, some budding poets) makes the festival appealing and accessible to readers across the board (past speakers have included Colson Whitehead, Susan Minot, Lemony Snicket, and Joyce Carol Oates). In a valiant attempt to unite Bostonians over something other than a shared hatred for the MBTA’s Green Line, BBF chooses a short story by a local author that is printed and distributed at various bookstores and libraries each year, free of charge. The project’s name, One City One Book, underscores the city’s commitment to preserving and promoting its literary identity.
The Hayden Library
· FRIDAY ·
4 PM: MIT Archives and Special Collections (160 Memorial Drive, Cambridge) With over 50 colleges and universities in the Boston area, it’s easy to wander onto a college campus (whether your nose is buried in a book or not), many of which have libraries holding fascinating collections. MIT’s archives and special collections has over 260 boxes of Noam Chomsky’s drafts, notes, and otherwise unpublished materials, in addition to a rare first edition of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass. MIT’s founder, William Barton Rogers (you’ll find his name inscribed across the school’s marble dome building on Massachusetts Avenue) also has a personal library on campus, which contains his copy of Newton’s Principia.
7 PM: The Cantab Lounge (738 Mass Ave, Cambridge) If you make your way straight down Mass Ave, you’ll eventually reach the Cantab Lounge. This hole-in-the-wall dive bar is easy to miss, nestled between an unassuming pizza joint and a 7-Eleven. It hosts the Boston Poetry Slam in its basement every Wednesday night. On Friday evenings, you’ll catch Slammers and fans alike listening to live music at Club Bohemia downstairs. It’s cash only and there’s almost always a cover to pay, but the pours of house wine and beer are generous (and affordable), and you may get to rub shoulders with some of Cambridge’s literary mainstays like Jackie Perry, Simone Beaubien, and Evan Cutts.
The Boston Athenaeum
· SATURDAY ·
11 AM: Trident Booksellers and Cafe (338 Newbury Street, Boston) Trident is known to many as a safe haven for the city’s college students who have had a bit too much to drink and need to bury their sorrows in a potato chuckwagon (a basket of potatoes doused with cheddar, meat, veggies and fried eggs). The two-story café and bookshop has ample table room, and Trident carries some of those coveted magazines that you won’t find on any old newsstand (think frankie, n+1, and the gentlewoman). The booksellers rank the current top ten best-selling books at the front of the shop with descriptions and witty commentary, intended to benefit the indecisive shopper and the bored Back Bay resident just ducking in after a long day shopping on Newbury Street.
2 PM: Boston Athenaeum (10½ Beacon Street, Boston) Now a National Historical Landmark, the Boston Athenaeum was founded in 1807, thanks to the efforts of a group of Bostonians who wanted to provide “the advantages of a public library. . . containing the great works of learning and science in all languages.” Over the past two centuries, the Athenaeum’s collections have grown exponentially as it acquired rare books with a special focus in New England state and local history, as well as English and American literature.
If you’re a lucky local with a membership (these will run you anywhere between $210 and $305 per year), you can visit any time the library is open. If you’re a non-member just in town for the weekend, you can only access the space from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays. If you come early enough (11am), you can join a tour that explains the architectural history of the building and its special collections.
Boston’s Public Garden Make Way for the Ducklings statues
4 PM: Boston Public Garden’s Make Way for Ducklings Chances are, you’ve read the children’s classic Make Way for Ducklings (or you’ve babysat for someone who has). Scattered across Boston’s Public Garden, you’ll find author Robert McClosky’s bronze ducklings: Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack and Quack. McClosky attended art school at the Vesper George School of Art, which has since closed; he wrote Make Way as an homage to Boston, despite moving to New York City after school. Find a bench to read, relax, and people-watch for a few hours.
7 PM: Bukowski’s Tavern (1281 Cambridge St, Cambridge) Bukowski’s may give you the impression that they don’t really want you there, but here you are, so have a pint. Photographs of Charles Bukowski haunt the walls, and his attitude permeates the menu (if you’re looking for a soup, you’ll have to “Check the fucking specials list to see what the Soup Bitch came up with this time”). This is also a hotspot for self-professed beer snobs, and the community has rallied around the diverse offerings enough for the staff to open a Mug Club. Customers have six months to try every beer in the house, and if they are successful, they are awarded a mug. A note from the menu: ”Bukowski Tavern is not responsible for any excessive weight gain, marriage annulments, black eyes, one night stands, or spur of the moment tribal tattoo arm bands that one may incur throughout the process of completing your mug.”
Groiler Poetry Book Shop
· SUNDAY ·
12 PM: Grolier Poetry Bookstore (6 Plympton St, Cambridge) Grolier has been a cornerstone of Harvard Square since it first opened its doors to aspiring poets and masters of the craft alike in 1927. As the bearer of the prestigious title of “oldest poetry bookshop in the United States,” you might be surprised to find how intimate the space is (in fact, Grolier’s shares a building with the Harvard Bookstore, a used and new bookshop worth visiting for numerous reasons, not the least of which is to chat with its knowledgeable staff about what you should be reading next). The current owner of Grolier’s, Ifeanyi Menkiti, a professor of philosophy at nearby Wellesley College, and his wife, Carol, are committed to preserving its mission as a place to discover and enjoy the art of poetry. The store has previously welcomed icons like e.e cummings and T.S Eliot, and still hosts readings regularly.
3 PM: The Plough and Stars (912 Mass Ave, Cambridge) The Plough and Stars has been around since 1969, and its cozy interior, slightly imperfect upholstery, and unpretentious bar suggests that its lived a pretty good life since then. The pub’s proximity to Harvard (and MIT, loosely) makes it a desirable meeting spot for faculty, and the $10 beer-and-burger deal is why it is coveted by students. There’s a vibrant live music calendar that tends to pack the place on weekend nights (though there are shows almost every single night). Don’t like the band? You can always find someone to talk to about what they’re reading (or writing) over the music, if you so choose. Or strike up a conversation with the bartender: they’ve seen Harvard develop through the ages, and have a story or three to share.

Pinnacle Ten Suggestions For a Wedding Ceremony And Reception
New Post has been published on https://giveuselife.org/pinnacle-ten-suggestions-for-a-wedding-ceremony-and-reception/
Pinnacle Ten Suggestions For a Wedding Ceremony And Reception
1. Where to start planning: Price range, Visitor list, Wedding ceremony and Reception website. In that order. And when it comes to your Budget, be realistic. How much do you have right now? How a great deal are you able to fairly save every month to position closer to the marriage? It is authentic that you’re going to want to pay deposits on a variety of objects, however, the complete quantity could be due as you get toward the wedding. But finally, you will have to pay it!
Once you have your Budget, reserve 50% of it for the reception, proper away. No ifs, and’s or buts. That includes food and beverage, leases, and some other site charges. In case you’re able to save money somewhere down the manner, it’s exceptional, However, do not expect it inside the starting.
What I usually tell my couples is that the alternative 50% gets divided similarly between clothes, plant life, images and music, invitations and favors, and your rite, if It’s in a separate region out of your reception. Pay a bit much less for some of those things, and you can pay a touch greater for others. That second 50% is Where you may locate wiggle room.
Then directly to the Guest listing. There is your listing, your fiancé’s list, and lists from both of your households. Consider featuring good sized others. And do not think – “eh, It’s in all likelihood going to be approximately a hundred human beings.” Take a seat down and write it out. And, sure, consist of the human beings you think might not be capable of making it. In this example, an invitation does remember.
And now that you recognize how an awful lot you have got, and what number of human beings you need to accommodate, you could properly start to figure out Where you can have it.
2. It is your Wedding, you could do something you need. In other phrases, do not immediately write off anything you actually need to do because it’s non-conventional, or seems like it’ll be not possible to pull off. each different couple asks me if they could do such and such, and is that k? Of path It is k. It’s your Wedding. Traditions are traditions, now not regulations. Do what you need. It is the private touches that make each Wedding ceremony unique. In no way shy away from the non-public touches. Multiple years in the past, I coordinated a marriage Where the bride and groom served the pie with ice cream, as opposed to cake. They knew it was what they desired However thought it might be a bit bizarre for his or her visitors. I advised that before the pie become served, that they provide a thanks toast to everybody and kind of introduce the pie as nicely. It labored – made them experience higher, let their guests understand what become taking place, and everybody turned into happy.
If you can not discern out the way to do something, ask your carriers. Your Wedding and reception web page are usually precise assets or your Wedding ceremony planner, In case you need it, you can have it. You simply need to figure out what it’ll take to get it.
3. 4 maximum possibly locations In which you may keep money in La: invites. Garb. Cake. ceremony and Reception for wedding  websites. I recognize that closing one is a marvel. However there a variety of county and country owned locations, together with parks, historic homes, seashores, that you can reserve for a great deal much less than a restaurant or traditional Wedding venue.
you could get invitations online highly affordably, But make certain to get samples before you buy. There are also kits you could get so you can make them yourself at domestic, which usually variety from $25-40 according to 50, and include the whole thing, consisting of RSVP cards. As far as your Wedding ceremony get dressed, there are Multiple places within the valley that I might propose (e-mail me), There may be David’s Bridals, you could lease your dress In case you truely don’t care approximately retaining it, or buy pre-owned clothes from locations like Encore Bridal. And, of the route, There’s continually buy, or different Wedding ceremony auction sites consisting of bridetobrideboutique.Com. I recognize a whole lot of human beings pull away from on-line web sites, however, the first rule is to realize what you’re buying. discover it in a shop, an attempt on your length, after which see if you can find it cheaper on line. do not be afraid to invite the vendor lots of questions. As for tuxedos, you get reductions at any of the ordinary chains If you purchase in bulk, and If you hit a bridal show, maximum probable you may be able to pick up a chit or for even greater of a discount.
And, oh, I recognize A couple of places In which you can get a marriage cake beginning at 3 dollars a slice. e mail me.
4. Consider the climate. Mainly, of the path, If you’re having an outside Wedding. I grew up in Southern California so I understand that it rains so little right here, that we generally tend to forget that it rains in any respect – we get one tough rain a yr, and houses collapse off hillsides, and anyone forgets the way to power, and we go searching for our umbrellas in the lower back of the closet. And As soon as it stops, we head again to the beach. However, almost speak, it rains while the seasons change. So, March/April, from time to time May additionally, September/October, late November/early December There may be an amazing threat it’ll pour. Have a contingency plan, whether or not It’s an indoor area you may pass the whole lot into, a tent to cowl the marriage web site, stuff like that.
Even without rain, there are other matters you are going to must address. June is heating But frequently overcast into midday. Summer time afternoon weddings are going to be hot, so make sure that There is lots of shade. (Especially over your cake. Frosting melts. Badly.) One in every of my brides went downtown and acquired a gaggle of paper machine parasols for her visitors, all in specific shades and designs. So, she killed three birds with one stone – preserve her guests at ease, delivered a unique and colorful contact to the day, and offer very cool Wedding favors. They have been quite and pretty reasonably-priced, too.
Additionally, remember the fact that the temperature drops Once the solar are going down. phrases: Mushroom Warmers.
5. What you’ve got in your kitchen is what you’ll want at your out of doors reception. a number of the time, when you’re renting an inexpensive outdoor website, you have to deliver the whole lot in. And if want a listing of what the whole lot is, take a go searching your kitchen. Silverware, plates, cups and glasses. You’ve in all likelihood got bowls, so Reflect consideration on whether or not you’re going to need any. Napkins. Also, keep in thoughts for stuff like that, you want to reserve 10-15% more than your wide variety of visitors, But test with your caterer on what they experience cozy with. Pitchers for water or lemonade (or sangria. Or margaritas). Salt and pepper shakers and some thing for sugar. Serving utensils. Are you going to want to herald an oven or stove? Are you going to need refrigeration or a few manner to keep things cool, like ice? Is there a sink? And trash cans, Do not forget the trash cans. Get big ones. And trash luggage.
After you discern out what you need, see what’s already to be had at your site without cost, in order to cut your condo costs. If you’re now not certain Where to discover the whole lot else, ask for an advice. Another suitable location for condominium suggestions could be your caterer. They might have what you want or be capable of the point you inside the right route. I have a apartment enterprise that I suggest to my couples because they provide them a discount, so odds are your caterer could have something like that as nicely. And, most importantly, attempt to personally check out the entirety ahead.
6. Pay attention to your carriers. In the event that they inform you they want x amount of time to perform their paintings, or x quantity of area, trust it and give it to them. In the event that they let you know they need certain materials, make sure they have them. In return, if some thing they request isn’t feasible, for anything purpose, tell them, so that you can parent out an opportunity as soon as possible. Same goes if It’s something that you want, that they can not or may not do. There’s constantly a plausible alternative. Oh, and Do not forget to feed all of them.
7. It’s far higher to have and not want, than to want and no longer have. That 15% greater that I referred to in advance? It may sound like plenty, But silverware receives dropped on the floor, plates smash. higher to have a tent reserved and now not want it. Etc. You get the image.
8. make sure There’s plenty of set-up time, and a plan. My recommendation is to have your Wedding and reception website online available as a minimum 2-three hours beforehand. It sounds like loads, But think of it this way: you have got area cards, which although they may be alphabetized nevertheless need to be arranged. Tables and chairs May also want to be set-up. you have location settings and centerpieces and favors and different decorations. You may want to installation your song, whatever that may be. Only a caution – some locations will most effective provide you with an hour. If so, make sure that every one your carriers are aware, ensure you have got lots of help, either from buddies or own family, and ask in case your website online’s team of workers can pitch in.
9. Have a ruin-down plan, too. How a great deal time have to procure to get out? Who’s cleaning up? What needs to be cleaned up? whilst are the leases being picked up? Who’s taking the presents? What are you doing with the more favors? The more meals? an awful lot better to figure this all out beforehand, now not as you are approximately to get into your limo.
10. do not anticipate that something’s going to be available or possible if you have not been informed so. Significantly, this is Where a number of human beings get tripped up. don’t count on you can use the trash cans inside the park. Ask. don’t anticipate you may take pictures anywhere you want. Ask. don’t expect that your DJ goes to deliver a microphone for announcements and toasts. do not assume your apartment enterprise is going to assist set-up all of your tables and chairs, or wreck them down afterwards. don’t anticipate your photographer goes to stay an additional hour because everything is jogging late. do not assume. take a look at your settlement and ask. It will keep away from a variety of surprises and quite a few tough feelings.
And here’s an extra tip:

Your Last-Minute Wedding-Day Checklist
Although these wedding details may be at the end of your list, you won’t want to forget them.
1. Check in with your vendors.
“Confirm arrangements with your pros and make sure they all have exact directions and a contact person’s cell phone number,” advises Julie Pryor of Pryor Events in Los Angeles.
2. Prepare final payments.
“Pay your vendors ahead of time,” says Emilie Duncan of Emilie Duncan Event Planning in Columbus, Ohio. “Then you don’t have to try to remember what is owed to whom on your wedding day.”
3. Have an “insurance policy.”
“When your vendors collect your final payments, have each of them sign a note indicating he’s received it,” advises Samantha Goldberg of Gold Events Planning in New Jersey. “Then if anyone claims he wasn’t paid, you will have proof that he was.”
4. Create tip envelopes.
“If you plan on tipping anyone, such as the banquet captain, wait staff or DJ, prepare envelopes with their names and insert the correct amounts,” says Duncan. “Sealed envelopes are a whole lot safer than a big stack of bills in someone’s pocket!”
5. Bring extra cash just in case.
“You might want to give a gratuity to someone who you feel has gone above and beyond the call of duty,” says Kathi R. Evans, event coordinator for All the Best Weddings and Celebrations, based in New Jersey.
6. Drop your luggage off early.
“If you’ll be staying overnight at a hotel after the reception, bring your bags the night before or have a friend or family member drop them off the morning of the wedding,” suggests Sarah Lusardi, wedding planner for NY Engagements, LLC, in New York.
7. Pack for your honeymoon early.
Doing it sooner rather than later is the way to guarantee one less worry,” says Pryor. “Also, make sure your passports and travel documents are in order.”
8. Pack properly for your destination wedding.
“Make a list of all the important things you need to bring and, if possible, pack them as carry-on,” says Cindy Clearwater of SunCelebrations in the Virgin Islands. “You may be able to pick up such necessities as drugstore items at your wedding destination, but don’t assume so.”
9. Have wedding items in place before the big day.
Lusardi suggests having your wedding favors, toasting glasses, cake knife and server delivered to your reception site a few days beforehand. For anything going to the ceremony site, designate a trusted friend or family member to get everything there before the guests arrive.
10. Put your signature-drink recipes in writing.
“Give a list to your bartender the day before, so he doesn’t forget exactly what you want,” says Sasha Souza of Sasha Souza Events in California.
11. Name those tunes.
Songs are often covered or remade by different bands, so double-check with your DJ or band leader that they have the versions you want.
12. Have a discussion with your photographer.
“Leave nothing to chance. Give him or her a list of people you’d like to have photographed together,” advises Pryor. “He’ll probably get the obvious ones, but if you want a picture of your sorority sisters or everyone who flew in for your wedding or your new husband’s coworkers, let your photographer know in advance.”
13. Create a wedding-day photography schedule.
Jean Picard, state coordinator for the Association of Bridal Consultants in California, says this is the best way to keep things moving smoothly. “For example,” she says, “if the bride, the bridesmaids and the bride’s family are being photographed at 3:15 p.m., this means they need to be at the location at 3:00 p.m., fully dressed, coiffed and made up. You don’t want a bridesmaid thinking she can pull into the parking lot at 3:15 p.m. with rollers in her hair and her dress in a garment bag!”
14. Create a day-of itinerary.
“Write a detailed schedule for the bridal party and family to be distributed after the rehearsal,” suggests Jo Ann S. Woodward, wedding coordinator in Texas. “This lets people know where and when to arrive for photographs and so on.”
15. Review printed materials.
“Be sure to carefully check place cards, table numbers, menus and programs for errors several days before your wedding,” says Pryor.
16. Make your guests feel loved.
“Have thoughtful welcome gifts with personalized notes waiting for your guests in their hotel rooms,” adds Pryor.
17. Line your cards up.
“Arrange all your escort and seating cards in alphabetical order ahead of time,” suggests Souza. “Bring an extra copy of the seating arrangements or give it to a bridesmaid and let her be in charge of it.”
18. Hydrate your flowers.
“Have a vase of water ready for bouquets when it is hot and dry outside,” Goldberg advises. “Certain flowers, like hydrangea and lilies, need water, so if you want your bouquet to live past the ceremony, don’t let it get thirsty!” Souza adds, “Order a few extra boutonnieres in case some die or are lost.”
19. Figure out how to get your gown to your location.
If you and your bridesmaids expect to dress at your ceremony site, don’t end up trying to fit large garment bags into one car along with you and your maids. If you have a plan in place, you’ll avoid stress.
20. Get your limo driver’s number.
“Don’t forget to bring his cell phone number in case you change your exit time or leave something in the car,” suggests Isha Foss, wedding consultant and owner of Isha Foss Events, based in Virginia. “At midnight, it won’t help to have only the office number.”
21. Arrange transportation home for your bridal party.
“Don’t strand your attendants at your wedding location!” says Duncan. “If they’re planning to arrive via shared transportation, make sure they have a ride at the end of the evening as well.”
22. Prepare for rain.
“If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony, be sure to have a tent set up and umbrellas on hand for guests just in case,” suggests Goldberg.
23. Nominate a gift caretaker.
“Designate in advance someone to take your presents home,” suggests Foss. “Give her a house key so she can have everything there for you when you return.”
24. Designate a wedding-day supervisor.
“Have a well-organized relative arrive early at the ceremony and reception site to ensure everything is in order,” suggests Lusardi.
25. Give your legal documents to someone responsible.
“Appoint someone to keep your signed marriage license until the end of the evening so it doesn’t get lost,” says Duncan. “Some honeymoon locations will give you special perks if you show proof that you’re honeymooners. That license may be all you’ll have.”
26. Don’t go hungry!
“Pre-order breakfast delivery to your hotel room the morning of the wedding,” says Souza. “Going through the day on an empty stomach isn’t helpful in dealing with all the excitement.”
27. Make sure everyone knows when it’s over.
“Double-check the end time of your wedding with your venue, as well as the time it must be cleared out, and give this information to all vendors,” says Foss. This will prevent unexpected overtime fees.
28. Pack a big-day emergency kit.
Lusardi suggests including bobby pins, hairspray, face powder, lip gloss and lipstick, hemming tape for last-minute repairs, traction pads for heels, a pair of panty hose, an umbrella and a shawl, stain remover, tissues and backup copies of your music choices should something happen to the originals.
