Although Jaya Ahsan's presence with him did not take his eyes off the screen, his acting seems a bit limited. The facial expressions are pretty much static, unchanging throughout the whole picture. On the contrary, the picture has gone a long way in the priest's usual fluent acting. Kaushik Sen is good in the small role, and Chandreyi Ghosh is good in the role of Kajal's wife.

My Innings as Commander 27 Mtn Arty Brigade (Part 1)

     I departed from Wellington after the customary farewell in the first week of Aug 2000. My thoughts during the journey upto Pune, fluctuated between fond memories of my professionally enriching tenure of two years at the Staff College & the expectations of my next challenging tenure as the Brigade Commander. I availed my “Joining Time” at Pune and discussed our future options with the family members for their move as a family to, only after our Brigade would move back to it's permanent location at Bagrakote. After a well deserved break of 10 days, I left Pune for Jammu via Delhi. I planned my arrival at Jammu to coincide with the Independence Day.

     Thereafter, I was escorted in a special convoy upto 27 Mountain Artillery Brigade, located on the outskirts of Pathankot. The welcome ceremony in the Brigade HQ was indeed special, since I was returning to the Gunners family after a gap of six years. I was introduced to the Staff Officers of the Brigade HQ & all my Commanding Officers. Next three days were busy in the handing/taking over procedures. Finally, on 19 Aug 2000, my predecessor accompanied me to the Division HQ for my formal welcome by the GOC 27 Mountain Division. I was promoted by the GOC who complimented my selection to the coveted rank of Brigadier, attained by just 10% of the officers in any Batch!! He wished me the best of luck in shouldering my higher responsibilities and expressed confidence that the Artillery Brigade would continue to excel in the "Striking Lion Division".

    My first priority was to visit my Brigade HQ & all my Regiments and the supporting sub-units. The program for these visits had been prepared already which was just awaiting my approval. I considered it an opportunity to be briefed by each CO about our operational role and get a first look about the living conditions of all the Units  since the entire Brigade was in a tented camp layout. The Units were in the final phase of training prior to the Practice Camps scheduled to be conducted in Kalith Field Firing Ranges in Sep. I dedicated three days for completion of these visits as per the program and felt so happy interacting with each CO and his team of officers & JCOs. The standard of routine administration in each Unit  was very commendable, despite the constraints.  I reminded myself to resist any  temptation of ordering any drastic changes or initiate any new procedures within the first two months. I had decided to view every situation from a higher pedestal & take judicious decisions after consultation with my Staff Officers & the COs.

     Next month, the whole Brigade, deployed in Kalith Ranges, located 45 kms from Jammu, for Field-firings & Practice Camps. The standard of deployment and firing of Guns was outstanding. At the end of all the Practice Camps, we conducted the Technical Day during which all the COs of all Units in the Division witnessed the display of Firepower of 90 guns of my Brigade. It gave all of us a tremendous feeling of confidence and assurance of our Combat potential. I conveyed my congratulations to all my Regiments, on the radio set, in the traditional Gunner style --- “Good Shooting from Bull!!” On conclusion of this major training event, we returned to Pathankot. Thereafter, each Regiment participated in the Collective Training Exercise with the affiliated Infantry Brigade.

     In mid-Oct, Sanjivani along with Ashvini and Aditya came to Pathankot during Diwali vacation. It was destined that we would celebrate Diwali Festival with the Gunner Family within the Camp environment. Next day, we proceeded to Amritsar which was just 100 kms away. Our first visit  was obviously the Golden Temple. It was an overwhelming experience as we sought the blessing of Satnam Waheguru followed by the customary Langar. In the evening, we visited Jallianwala Bagh & witnessed an impressive Sound and Light show.

 Next day, was spent in local sightseeing & savoring Punjabi cuisine. In the evening, we attended the magnificent ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony at the Wagah-Attari Border. The pomp and pageantry of the ceremony showcasing the change of guard was truly an amazing spectacle. The most captivating moment was the simultaneous lowering of the National Flags at sunset,  closing the gates on both sides of the border followed by the illumination display amidst thunderous chorus of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. Next morning, we returned to Pathankot with a bundle of memories of our inspiring trip to Amritsar. 

     Soon, after celebrating Ashvini’s birthday, Sanjivani & the children returned to Pune for resumption of their academic sessions.  In mid-Nov, we were delighted to receive the much awaited orders from Army HQ pertaining to our move back to the permanent locations. I conveyed this good news to Sanjivani & the children who were really excited to prepare for their move as well. The move of 27 Mountain Division was to be carried out by military special trains for which we had to project the specific requirement of rolling stock.

     In case of the Artillery Brigade, we prepared an elaborate plan for the move of all the Regiments to respective locations. It was a complex exercise to plan the move of one Regiment each to Barrackpore & Kanchrapara (near Kolkata), one Regiment each to Sevoke Road & Oodlabari (near Siliguri), a Regiment to Panagarh (about 150 km from Kolkata) & the Brigade HQ and the Signal Company & Field Workshop to Bagrakote. Separate plans were prepared by the Division HQ, all the Infantry Brigades & the supporting Units for moving back to their respective locations. The final move orders  were received from Army HQ. The execution of move was carried out systematically and completed by end of the year. It was indeed a massive logistic experience involving move by military special trains, from different entraining stations near Pathankot to multiple detraining stations in West Bengal.

     Just before leaving Pathankot, I got a chance to visit my parent Regiment (98 Field Regiment) which was located at Dehradun. The warmth and hospitality extended to me by the Jat Balwan family was indeed commendable. I felt so nostalgic as I renewed my association after a gap of six years. It was indeed a journey down memory lane!! 

     Thereafter, I travelled by air from Jammu to Delhi & onwards from Delhi to Bagdogra. Subsequent  travel upto Bagrakote was refreshing, specially after crossing the Tiger Bridge,  which connects West Bengal with the North Eastern states. Bagrakote was a small Army campus at the foothills of undulating ridgelines. I was particularly impressed when I entered my fully furnished residence, traditionally designated as the “Gun House”.  My first reaction was to take several photos of my beautiful residence and send them to Pune by speed post (since WhatsApp technology did not exist at the time). It facilitated a virtual tour of our new Home, which further triggered the desire of my family members to come to Bagrakote as soon as possible.

     After the initial settling down process, I went to the Division HQ at Kalimpong for an operational briefing, since I had never served in this Sector. Thereafter, I proceeded for my familiarisation recce in Nathu La Sector of  East Sikkim. The recce was completed in one week, in high altitude terrain during the snowfall season. Subsequently, I visited all my Regiments sequentially, as per the dispersed locations. It enabled me to  gain first hand knowledge about various problems being faced by each Unit. I focused my attention on the improvement of administration  and welfare of all troops & families. Thus, I could allot funds for urgent repairs and new projects for improvement of habitat in each location. 

     In the last week of Mar, I went on casual leave to Pune and returned along with Sanjivani and Aditya. Our luggage took a long time to reach because of the move across the country. Ashvini and Nandini shifted to a Girl’s Hostel and were planning to join us later. On return to Bagrakote, I got involved in preparing for the forthcoming War Game and Operational discussion which was to be conducted at Kalimpong. It was a major event in which all Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers had to participate. Hence, I proceeded to Kalimpong for another week, leaving Sanjivani with the responsibility of settling down in our new abode. 

                                 Our Beautiful ‘Gun House’  

     We could not move to Pathankot along with Vivek in August, since the Artillery Brigade was doing the Annual Practice Camps & collective training. Entire 27 Mountain Division was awaiting orders for move back to the permanent location. Moreover, Ashvini and Nandini were already pursuing their college education and Aditya was in the Army Public School, Pune. We felt happy when the Brigade returned to Bagrakote in end of Dec. Consequent to this news, we decided to shift Ashvini & Nandini into Paying Guest accommodation, at a central location in Deccan Gymkhana. Thereafter, in the last week of March, only Vivek &  myself, Aditya and my mother-in-law (Badi Mummy) moved to Bagrakote.  Our long journey was very entertaining, particularly because our pet dog (Maxi) also travelled with us. Incidentally, the journey involved all modes of transport: by air from Mumbai to Kolkata, by overnight train upto New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and by road till our destination. The road journey was specially enchanting after we crossed the Tiger Bridge (also called Coronation Bridge) on the Teesta River. The view of the valley, forests and the tea gardens astride the road was so fascinating. Finally, after two hours, we reached the “Gun House” & were welcomed formally in the Brigade Officers Mess. It was a unique feeling to be called the “First Lady” once again!!

   Our Bungalow was unique in design & internal layout. It was constructed on stilts, had wooden flooring, wooden walls, wooden roof with a false wooden ceiling and wooden furniture! At the entrance, there was a huge lawn having a waterfall, a small pond & a Gazebo. In the backyard, there were several Litchi trees and a Bamboo grove. The Officers Mess & the Guest rooms were just adjacent to our residence. We were thrilled to observe the scenic view of the ridges & spurs, the riverfront and the tea gardens in close proximity. It was a privilege to have a guard of 12 soldiers at the “Gun House”, who were on duty 24x7. In addition, there was a cook & the Buddy from 98 Field Regiment (Hav Khajan Singh), who provided necessary assistance. I realised that I will have to get used to these facilities gradually, while settling down to our new lifestyle in the lap of nature. 

     On completion of the War Game, I returned from Kalimpong. I was impressed to see the transformation of the “Gun House” after completion of the settling down process. It appeared that the stage was set for Ashvini and Nandini’s arrival during their Summer Vacation. Meanwhile, I planned the itinerary for our family visits to Nathu La, Darjeeling and Kalimpong. Simultaneously, I prepared the schedule of my Adm Inspections of all the Units during May/June. Sanjivani visited the family quarters of the Brigade Camp and interacted with all the families when I was at Kalimpong. In addition, she visited Army School, Bagrakote and laid out a plan for further improvement of the School. We now awaited the arrival of Ashvini & Nandini and were at a stage of ‘Get, Set, Go’ for our tour to pristine Sikkim.

To put an end to these companies misusing his name, the actor has issued a warning. It was brought to his notice that some production companies have been using his name to gain access to other actors. Following this, Vijay Deverakonda’s team sent out a notice warning the production houses indulging in such activities. It was also clarified that the actor and his team will make a formal announcement about all new projects. The statement from Team Vijay Deverakonda reads: “We, Team Deverakonda have noticed that few production companies have been fraudulently misrepresenting to be making a film with Vijay Deverakonda and have been conducting auditions and gain access to actors/actresses. Any project Vijay Deverakonda is associated with shall be formally announced by him and his producers. Official confirmation can also be verified on VD’s official SM handles. While we take action against these perpetrators, we request all to be alert and double-check any information in their personal best interests.” Vijay is currently busy playing the lead role in the Puri Jagannath directorial tentatively titled Fighter. The film will be made in Telugu and Hindi with ace Bollywood director and producer Karan Johar producing the Hindi version and Puri Jagannnath producing the Telugu version. Boney Kapoor and Sridevi’s daughter Jahnvi Kapoor has been roped in to play the female lead in this sports drama. The shooting of this film commenced in January and was progressing until the lockdown was announced due to the pandemic. When this project was announced, there were reports that Puri Jagannath is keen on roping in the legendary boxing champion Mike Tyson for a role in the film. Apparently, the hero idolises the boxing legend, following which it was decided to bring him on board. The makers of Fighter will be approaching the boxer and it needs to be seen if he will accept the offer. Vijay’s last film to release was World Famous Lover, which hit the marquee on February 14 to coincide with Valentine’s Day. Directed by Kranthi Madhav, the film had Raashi Khanna, Catherine Tresa, Aishwarya Rajesh and Izabelle Leite as the female leads. The technical crew of this film included Gopi Sundar for music, Jaya Krishna Gummadi for cinematography and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao for editing. Though Vijay made his acting debut in 2011 with Nuvvila, it was Arjun Reddy in 2017 that shot him to fame. Arjun Reddy, which starred Shalini Pandey opposite him, was one of the biggest hits in Vijay’s career. The star cast also included Rahul Ramakrishna, Jia Sharma, Sanjay Swaroop, Kamal Kamaraju, Kanchana, Gopinath Bhat, Amit Sharma and Priyadarshi Pullikonda. Made on a low budget, the film reached the Rs 50 crore club and its remake rights were lapped up for a huge price.

Controversies rule the religion domain of India in 2016. The faith realm of several religions are abuzz with many activities, that challenge the norms and practices. We have seen abundance of spiritual activities laced with cultural notions and activism that colours religion as a socio-political factor. The year had invited the obvious disasters of religious mismanagement and show the redundant rigidity in boastful manner.

SriSri Cultural Extra-vaganza 

Art of Living’s Sudarshan Kriya has benefitted millions and his founder is widely recognized as a peace ambassador. But when SriSri Ravishankar has finalized the flood plains of Yamuna for his 35th anniversary of Art of Living, the peace has vanished and activist thronged to do a protest kriya. The petition to cancel the event venue reached to the National Green Tribubal and a tug of war has started that ended into a damage mode. Art of Living has to pay a fine and President of India has skipped the event due to the environmental controversy. Ruling party has endorsed the event and on dais truce and negotiations happened when Delhi CM show faith in the Spritual Master. Environment faced the harshest value and SriSri numerous efforts to salvage the problem went against him. The mega show surely impress every nook and corner of this planet, but "rigidity" was sensed by the onlookers and environmental activists.

The largest religious gathering on earth, Kumbh has seen a vast presence of unseen events this time in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. From angry weather gods to Dalit politics has evaporated many tents and feelings.  Seven killed and ninety injured when heavy rains accompanied by lightning. The fair started in April and lasted for one month. As it starts the fervor of Hinduism galore in the sky of politics. The ruling government has organized a Vaicharik Mahakumbh that created an intellectual meaning to this religious mega show.  Though the bathing of Dalits with BJP leaders and saints occupied the imagination a lot. The obvious saints cat fight was seen everyday on pity issues. But the real attraction was Eunuch Akhada, where eunuchs become demigods and their blessings are considered heavenly. The only area in Kumbh City, where parking charges fetch desirable results is the Akhara of Eunuchs. Hindu saints somehow digest this transgression. They always against the Woman Akhara and seems fear the eunuchs.

When Spirituality Pays off Well!

While politics has a lot of deeper connections in religion, the transformation of a guru from religious might to a political flight has never seen a strange thing. When Gayatri Parivaar Spiritual head Dr. Pranav Pandya had suddenly offered a distinguished Upper House seat, the buzz is obvious, he is the choice of PM Narendra Modi and BJP Chief Amit Shah. Religious Mismanagement

Stampede at religious places always happen in the same manner and the outcome also points out the same callousness. In April, Kerala has seen the worst incident in a temple premises. A firework display become monstrous and killed 100 and injures 280 lives. Who is responsible? The fire God!

In October 23 killed on a bridge between Varanasi and Chandauli when people have gathered in large number for a religious event of Jai Gurudev Ashram. The innocent lives of devotees have no right to ask the organisers and government, why our soul is so cheap, that a rumour can shatter it into pieces.

A child died for a religion

She died after 68 days of fast. A religion that glamourise fasting. She was cajoled spirituality to test her admiration and faith. She fails as the fast ends and lost her future. Jain religion was in question when HYDER and based class 9th student died. Her parents didn't show any deep repent. Saints show sympathy and warned outsiders to kept away from questioning the faith rituals. Police has to act, but it didn't warn any blind follower to abide the personal choice or will of a child.

When Rights Win and Tradition Falls

But, surely there are moments when faith has to bow down for social equality. Hindu religious place Shani Shingnapur and Muslim Dargah Hazi Ali has to abide the ruling of courts to open the gates for women. In both cases woman activists come to road to show the strength. Courts become conscious and human to hear petition that challenged the uneven norms and practices. Social activist Tripti Desai become a hope for millions. There are some rules which are followed by some scriptures and there are few which are developed by old time thoughts. Sabrimala still awaits for the moment, when doors are open for all and lord is worshiped by every woman. A counter moment has also raise some support for the Sabrimala ongoing  tradition.

Faith Hopes for 2017

Religion is evolving. As cultural norms are changing, faith is adapting new practices. Youth become more Spritual and inclined to shape society by their ways. Religion, outside temples/mosque/church and gurudwara are becoming more open due to the challenges. Gurus are trying to develop new programmes and their social activities are creating hope. We hope 2017 brings more understanding and bonding between faiths and cultural realities.

via Today Bharat nbsp; When a seven-year-old girl went missing in Nallakunta on the outskirts of Vijayawada on Sunday, the entire neighbourhood came together to look for her. On Tuesday afternoon, people are still gathered together along the street near the childrsquo;s house. The search ended on Monday evening. They are now mourning the loss of the little girl who was allegedly killed by her 37-year-old neighbour Prakash. More than a hundred neighbours and acquaintances are waiting for the childrsquo;s body to return from the Government General Hospital after the post-mortem. Some are gathered under a tent on the road in front of her house. Banners reading lsquo;We miss you lsquo;chitti thallirsquo; (our little girl)rsquo; have been put up on every street. Inside her house, her motherrsquo;s relatives and her two brothers, 9 and 12 years old, sit in front of the TV watching news channels for updates from the hospital, where her parents are waiting to bring her body back. nbsp; In the closely-knit neighbourhood where everyone recognises each other, the neighbours and acquaintances can still hardly believe everything that has unfolded in front of them in the past couple of days. On Sunday afternoon, sometime after lunch, the child, who lived on the ground floor of the building, had gone to her upstairs neighbourrsquo;s house to play with a few other kids. Around 3 pm, she left to return home downstairs. But the child never came back home again. When her parents Anil and Ramanamma realised she was missing, they began to search with their neighboursrsquo; help. Among these neighbours was Prakash, who lived across Anil and Ramanammarsquo;s house on the ground floor. ldquo;Prakash was crying the entire time we searched for her. He kept recalling that she used to call him lsquo;pedda nannarsquo; (uncle). He even talked to TV reporters about her,rdquo; says Harika, a neighbour from upstairs. nbsp; The locked door of Prakash's house across Anil and Ramanamma's house Anil filed a complaint with the Bhavanipuram police about his missing daughter on Sunday night. Four police teams, along with the neighbours, searched frantically for the child all night. They looked for her all over the neighbourhood, worried sick that she might be hurt and wondering if it might be too late. The search continued on Monday. Prakash seemed to be searching along with the others, but the entire time the childrsquo;s body was lying stuffed in a bag in his house. On Monday evening, Prakashrsquo;s wife, who was away visiting her children at a residential school, returned home. ldquo;Prakash was out of the house, still pretending to look for the child. The bag with the body was shoved away in a corner of the house. He had blocked it with a mattress, a cot and other things. His wife only found it while she was looking for an ATM card. Otherwise, he almost got away with the murder,rdquo; says another neighbour, Seshamma. The neighbours who were constantly gathering at the childrsquo;s house to exchange information were shocked to know that not only had they lost the child, but it was Prakash, a neighbour and familiar face whom they least suspected, who was behind it. ldquo;A few young men found him immediately and started to beat him up. They couldnrsquo;t contain their anger. The police reached just then and took him away,rdquo; Seshamma says. Surya, who worked with Prakash at a nearby godown and lives in the same building as Prakash and the childrsquo;s family, says that no one ever suspected Prakash for a second. ldquo;He was a very short-tempered man. He had a drinking problem too. But he was not very confrontational with neighbours. It has been nearly two years since he started living here. He and his wife were always cordial with neighbours. The little girl used to call him lsquo;pedda nanna.rsquo; There was no ill will or enmity among the families. We are still trying to process that this really happened,rdquo; he says. While there are CCTV cameras outside the house next door, police had said that the footage had not provided any clues. ldquo;If Prakash had gotten rid of the body, he wouldrsquo;ve gotten away with it. But there were so many people gathered here all the time which made it impossible,rdquo; says another neighbour. In spite of there being no clues about the child leaving the building, police say they did not search the neighboursrsquo; houses inside the building. ldquo;It had been less than 24 hours since the child went missing. The parents kept saying they didnrsquo;t suspect the neighbours at all, so we focused our efforts elsewhere,rdquo; Bhavanipuram Sub-Inspector Israel says. Even the police dog did not identify the body inside Prakashrsquo;s house, according to neighbours and Israel. Even as the post-mortem results are awaited and the investigation is going on, police said that the motive for the murder is yet to be confirmed. ldquo;He (the accused) has been making a lot of claims. We need to cross-check them,rdquo; police said. While a few reports suggested that the post-mortem indicated sexual assault, police said that the results are still awaited. By Tuesday evening, as they received news that the body was being brought from the hospital, the neighbours, along with a few members of the All India Democratic Womenrsquo;s Association (AIDWA), staged a roadblock at the Nallakunta junction on the main road for about an hour, demanding justice for the child. As soon as the body arrived, the protesting neighbours followed the vehicle back to Anil and Ramanammarsquo;s house. nbsp; As the small coffin was placed under the tent, hundreds of people jostled to say a final goodbye to the little girl before her body was taken to the burial ground. There were students from her school, the workers at the local Anganwadi which she attended until a couple of years back, relatives, neighbours, friends and playmates, all of them still filled with grief and shock, but mainly with anger at Prakash, who almost got away with his crime, leaving the family and neighbourhood permanently wounded. nbsp;

via Today Bharat nbsp; Anjamma had left her house with her three daughters in mid-August to move to a shelter camp, when the Krishna river flooded the thatched roof structure she was renting in the Tarakaramanagar area in Vijayawada. With the Krishna river in spate again, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) issued a flood warning in her neighbourhood once again on Friday. But Anjamma and nearly 60 other families have no use for the warning. They have not been able to return to their homes since the first large-scale evacuations on August 15. Ever since the Krishna river flooded on August 14, the families have been rendered homeless, after being moved to the lsquo;shelter camprsquo;, an open space under a water tank near Tadikonda Subbarao government primary school in Rani Gari Thota. ldquo;The thatched roof of our house was destroyed in the floods. We went back to get our clothes and vessels, but we can clean the house only once the water completely recedes and the floor dries up,rdquo; Anjamma says. People staying at the camp say that since they moved to the camp, water has entered their house at least three more times. ldquo;The roofs are gone and the floor is muddy and filthy with stagnant water. Snakes have entered our homes. We keep waiting for the house to dry so we can clean it up, but either the barrage water is released or there are rains,rdquo; says Kumar, who has been living at the camp with his wife and two children. People at the camp say that while the VMC provided them food and grains in August, eventually the support stopped. ldquo;Those of us living in rented houses tried to find other places but the rents are too high,rdquo; says Kumar. Both Kumar and Anjamma say that theyrsquo;ve tried looking for houses in Rani Gari Thota, but were unable to afford the properties which were available. Speaking to TNM, VMC Additional Commissioner (General) Shakuntala said since the families shifted there completely, theyrsquo;re only being provided with sanitation and water facilities for now. ldquo;There are about 50 to 70 families, about half of them keep going back and forth, half of them are permanently there. Since theyrsquo;ve been living there for a while, they were not provided with food this time when the water was released,rdquo; she says. Durga, who has also been staying at the camp area, says that a few ward volunteers had noted their details for the state government housing scheme for the poor. ldquo;But they say those will only be available by Ugadi, which is 6 months away. They havenrsquo;t told us whether we are eligible yet, so we donrsquo;t even know if that is something we can bank on,rdquo; she says, adding that some of the people who lost their Aadhaar cards or ration cards in the floods werenrsquo;t even able to apply for the scheme. Shakuntala on the other says that some of the families may not be eligible for the scheme since they may not have ration cards from Vijayawada. The VMCrsquo;s stand is that since the now homeless families are immigrants to Vijayawada, there cannot be a permanent solution to the housing problem. ldquo;They are migrant communities from Prakasam district and other parts of the state. They donrsquo;t have fixed homes. They stay in houses on the river bank where no one else stays. We can only find a temporary solution for this,rdquo; says Shakuntala, adding that the families have been told that they can stay at the water tank indefinitely. Meanwhile, the families have no options but to continue to stay at the shelter. Parents are worried about the risk of mosquito-borne diseases for their children. ldquo;Fogging is done regularly, but still there are mosquitoes since itrsquo;s an open space. Some of us have bought mosquito nets for our children. But when it rains at night, itrsquo;s impossible to sleep as there are no walls. We just have to huddle and wait for the rain to stop,rdquo; Kumar says. Only last week the people say they received a warning from an unknown person asking them to vacate the premises. ldquo;It was someone related to the water tank, who visited during the day. The women asked him to give us time till the coming Tuesday. But now the water is back in our homes, where can we go?rdquo; asks Kumar. Kumar adds that even if the water were to completely recede, restoration works for the houses with thatched roofs would cost up to Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000, which will be difficult for them to bear as their income has already been hurt by the uncertain living conditions. On Friday, the VMC also issued a flood warning in a few other areas, including Bhupesh Gupta Nagar and Ramalingeshwara Nagar. Families have been staying in tents on elevated land, waiting for the water to recede so they can go back and repeat the cycle of cleaning their homes and returning to normalcy, in many cases for the third or fourth time. In spite of longstanding demands, the retaining wall which could shield the residents from flood waters remains incomplete. The wall is said to have been proposed in 2009, which was the last time that the city was flooded this severely. The wall has been completed only partially, with a long stretch from Ramalingeswaranagar continuing up to Rani Gari Thota and beyond yet to be completed. A few residents of Rani Gari Thota say that the work was stopped citing lack of funds. As low-income areas in the city are repeatedly flooded, posing financial and health risks to the people living along the river bank, the wall is stuck in limbo, as are the families living at the shelter camp.

via Today Bharat The cost incurred by the damages from Titli have been estimated to be around Rs 2,800 crore.Actor-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna met with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday and handed over Rs 25 lakh as a donation towards relief efforts for Cyclone Titli which struck the state earlier this month. The TDP MLA from Hindupur met with Naidu at his residence in Hyderabad and handed over a cheque for the same. Earlier this week, Naidu said that the cyclone, which struck the coast in Srikakulam District and ruthlessly uprooted several coconut and cashew trees in the Uddanam region, had pushed the area back by two decades. He also said that normalcy would be restored by October 29. Last week, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Naidu had said, "The cyclone has devastated these districts (Srikakulam and Vizianagaram) and has left huge damage to properties, agriculture and horticulture crops, houses and infrastructure resulting in deep distress and misery to the people of these districts." The state government has made a tentative estimation of the damage in all sectors, including agriculture, horticulture, electricity and irrigation. It has stated roughly Rs 2,800 crore rupees to be the estimated worth of the damages incurred. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister Nara Lokesh and Srikakulam MP B Ram Mohan Naidu have appealed to people from across the world to donate to the Chief Ministerrsquo;s Relief Fund to help rebuild the lives of those affected by the natural disaster. Stating that Cyclone Titli struck on October 11 with high winds going up to 165 kmph, followed by flooding, heavy rain ranging from 10 to 43 cm and storm surges, Lokesh said that the state government was working full-time in restoring normalcy in the affected areas. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;
