i got the green light from my agent to upload the comics i did for my portfolio! they wanted colored comic samples, so i did a marvel one and this, which focuses on my narrator and marlise @employee210's reaction to being free from the dreadful office/parable! mar's glad to be free from the hell they've been stuck in for a decade while narry's not doing so good, he has a lot of pent up trauma to go through.
this is the first time i pushed myself to make a finished comic since 2015, i can say i'm proud of pushing through!

MARLISE GENTRY / MISS BUTTERCUP
Marlise is a pessimistic tattoo artist and underground boxer. She lives with her brother and owns the body mod parlor Needleteeth, which is fairly popular. She along with Noah were in Second Chance Orphanage's operation in their early adolescence until they ran away at 14.
Her personality is considered rough and aloof on the outside with a sharp sense of humor, but is motherly and warm to people she's close with. She naturally has a sense of unease around men in power, which can manifest into aggression. This is a source of conflict at times as she has a sensual attraction to people who are bad for her. Marlise has a habit of self-sabotage.
She loves making art, especially of flowers and weapons (her favorite being knives). She will protect her brother at all costs, perhaps even to the point of killing.
She is the current reigning champion in the Buttercup's lightweight tier and the most decorated woman fighter. She's affectionately called Miss Buttercup within the community.
She's a zine artist of six years. She contributes to the local zines with her comic Needleteeth, after her tattoo parlor.
Thanks to persistent paranormal activity in her life, as she is a spirit medium, Marlise has developed a dependency on anti anxiety medication that she is now in almost total recovery from. Her service german shepherd Cuddles keeps her not only comforted but also safe.

You see people, THIS is why you have to lock all your doors and windows at night, lest you face the wrath of an unruly employee who hasn't slept in ten years. How on earth such a defenseless helpless narrator defend himself? I don't even have hands to flip her off. I'm exposed! Exposed to the aggression and attacks of Marlise Gentry...

Mar: I might need a crash course soon
Jonathan rubs the back of his neck awkwardly. “I would love to but um...”
As if summoned, Maelle suddenly appears in front of them and shoves a big book labeled PROTECTIONS FOR HUMAN/VICHTEL SEX into Marlise’s hands.
“Not so fast! You two aren’t doing anything unless you’ve read this, Gentry.”

‘‘I find it endlessly ironic that you gave abolutely no damns back when shit and all the trolling was real, did nothing to stop it nor try to protect your ‘friend’ but now, when I became a bit softer, you suddenly started to care and try to mess with me.  Okay, I’ll repeat for slowpokes.  I did admit I was wrong, I understand everything perfectly well and I even apologized. Even though I wasn’t exactly obligated. I would be obligated only a case if I actually told the main cruel severe shit right in her face, but I didn’t. She literally eavesdropped me talking shit about her behind her back, broke into the room and yelled at me.  Believe me or not, she was the very first person so far who reacted this way, was pissed for months and made of this all a really really big deal in that very way like if I were literally a Hitler or something like that, all despite the fact that she barely even knew me. I am not excusing myself or anything because I am an ashhole, but, damn, I think you should at least consider a thought that caring so much about a stranger’s offensive words not actions is not a normal reaction from a person who is close to hitting her thirty? Doesn’t it hint at the fact that she has some serious issues just like I do? Doesn’t it make it clear she needs some professional help as well? It’s not my fucking fault she refuses to get help even though she actually can now. It’s not my problem that she wants to keep suffering instead. Can’t you fucking see this? This is not about me at all. This is about Marlise Gentry. It always was about her, from the very moment I tried to troll her untill nowadays, when I actually stepped away yet it just doesn’t work, it won’t ever work as long as you all keep licking her ass instead of discussing problematic stuff like good friends would do— ... Wait. Why am I even talking to you? You will blindly stay by her side no matter what anyway, because you are clearly not able to hear the other side and make your own opinion on the case. Whatever, I am not gonna waste my time here anymore. Soo go on, twist my words around again and all that shit. I am not gonna care anymore, it’s just pointless. Bye.’‘
Neil turns and steps away, into a portal.

@too-stubborn-to-fail has met with a terrible fate... | starter call ☠
"Well, well, well! Fresh meat! It's been long since I've seen a new employee around here."
The voice was playfully mocking, coming from this side and that, until it materialized in front of Miriam, as a short woman dressed in a bikini and transparent robe that barely did anything to cover her.
Nestled amidst her pink shoulder length hair were two pointy horns, looking as dauntingly real as the fangs that glistened when she spoke.
"Who are you then? A newcomer to the Office? A bored and lonely employee looking for something to take her mind of her dreary existence? Or, hmm." The demoness leaned in close, catching a waft of Miriam’s scent. Her eyes lit up with recognition.
"I think I smell some Marlise Gentry on you! Her new girlfriend perhaps?"

💍
Winston stared at the ring in his hand. He was going to have to marry Marlise whether he wanted to or not. This was the nature of all arranged marriages.
He wasn’t sure if he’d like it more if it wasn’t an arranged marriage or if he wasn’t getting married at all. A marriage could be beneficial for both parties if it went well. The pooling of resources was something he wasn’t averse to. There were many other variables to take into account, what ifs and what could go wrongs.
If he were to be stuck with this woman for the rest of life, or at least a year or two , should they get separated later on, he might as well try to put his best impression forward.
He saw her enter the room, seeing her for the first time. Winston thought she was pretty, if nothing else. He had a feeling there was something else to her, she carried a muted air of strength about her. The way she looked around the room, taking it in and no doubt judging. He’d let her make the first move, the first impressions.
“You must be Miss Gentry, then? I’m Winston Samuels, your future husband.”

a happiness headcanon
Noah is happiest in the company of his family members. He becomes easily bored and low-spirited when left alone for too long. Luckily, he’s able to chat with his sister during lunch breaks on work days. Social interaction keeps his mood evened out.
an anger headcanon
Due to Marly’s poor anger management skills, the twins have developed a system to prevent any meltdowns. When either twin (it’s mostly Marly, but it applies to Noah too) is feeling overwhelmed, they hold up their fingers to scale their feelings. One finger is mild and ten is full-blown. After that, they do what they can to alleviate the situation.
So far, they’ve only gone up to eight fingers at the most.
a body headcanon
You don’t know how many times Marlise has been approached by concerned yet nosy old women asking about her pale skin. From being misdiagnosed as anemic to being recommend to countless of doctors who can “cure her sickly skin”, she can’t help but cringe at the words: “You poor dear.”
a mental state headcanon
Marlise is currently on sleeping medication. She’s not on it as much as she used to be, but the still-accumulating stress from being stalked by Anons has required her to take it more often. Now she stresses about the medication losing it’s potency with each use.
a love/sexuality headcanon
Noah is bi-curious and has been since elementary school. He’s only told his sister about it. The reason he hasn’t told anyone else is because he doesn’t see it as a big deal to discuss. Plus he gets kind of flustered when people ask him about his sexuality.
And yes, he did kiss one boy in the third grade.
a religion headcanon
While the twins are (or perhaps were, now?) agnostic, they both believe to have had interacted with their deceased relatives through dreams. Though, they won’t prattle on about them to just anyone.

NOAH GENTRY / NYNETTE MOULIN
Noah is the softer, less abrasive twin to Marlise. He's more emotionally in tune with less destructive habits. However, he can be quite intrusive and smothering when he's convinced he's in the right. He hates messes and chaos, from the home to his relationships. He's orderly to a fault. Noah is also quite flirtatious and a hopeless romantic. He works as an independent courtesan, but still holds on to the idea of true love.
His tastes are wholly feminine. He loves to cook and bake, and he's nearly an expert at it. He dreams of leaving Hadea with his sister and owning a restaurant/bakery.
He moonlights as a burlesque dancer for clubs such as The Brass Lion and The Sundew Room under the stage name Nynette Moulin. He prefers it over his main job, but it pays significantly less.

The entire office shuts down into deep and unending blackness. Mar could still see herself however, and she's still in the chair, unrestrained. The chair was still unmoving. It's not going anywhere. If she moves, she will move. The chair will not.
"This is the story of a woman named Marlise Gentry."
Soft light appears around her. It was hazy, uncertain and blurry. It slowly turns into the sight of a familiar room. Too familiar. Perhaps it would bring comfort to her, or the opposite. The Narrator wasn't sure how she would react.
"Marlise Gentry is a woman full of rage. And underneath all that was a woman full of grief. Once upon a time, she went to work and back home, unthinkingly wasting her life because of it. She was in so much pain and agony, she didn't know how to express it other than antagonizing others. She barely made friends with people because of this. She constantly pushed others away, including her very own twin brother."
Like the pages of a scrapbook the vision faded away, and Marlise could see a silhouette of herself sitting in bed, with the numbers 4:00 shining bright in red next to her. She stares onto the floor, exhausted. Shoulders sagged down and up again.
She was crying.
"One day while at work, Marlise realized that everyone in the building had vanished off the face of the earth. Perhaps within her, this is what she really wanted. This is what she felt was a suitable punishment for the things she did before in life. Despite all that, Marlise blamed it onto others. Blamed it to the heavens. Blamed it onto the omnipresent narrator for trapping her here. Never knowing that perhaps she was making her own choices, her own path by walking in circles. Perhaps... all of this was comforting to her. The pain, the hurt. It was familiar. It was predictable."
"Until one day, Marlise realized that she couldn't take it anymore. So she decided to take her life again. And then again. Over and over. Wishing it could numb the pain she felt inside- for what control she had left but being the source of her own misery? If she could simply hurt herself first, then other people wouldn't get the credit for it. Surely that makes sense, she thought to herself."
Visions of her self destructive acts play in front of her. Her friends and allies' various reactions. Some laughed, most of them cried. Something that she never could have ever seen every time she resets.
What a shame, the Narrator thought. She doesn't even know of it.
"I just came by to tell you that ur built like a bitch."
A sigh as he sets down his script.
"What pent up frustration you're feeling right now that led you to say this unprompted, hm? Boredom as usual? Would you be a lot nicer to me if I started throwing baby toys your way?"

"Hey, Jonathan. I was thinking about our surnames should we get married and I wanted to know what you thought. It's traditional that the wife take the husband's surname. And while 'Marlise Von Sales' sounds really nice, I was thinking we could have both of our surnames. Sure 'Gentry-Von Sales' seems long, but it has a ring to it..."
“Oh,” Jonathan breathed, his eyes glowing brighter. “Oh, yes. That sounds absolutely wonderful, my love. In my culture those who marry take on the surname of the most powerful or dominant family of the lovers to carry on the traditions.”
He took her into his arms, kissing the top of her head gently. “I think Gentry-Von Sales sounds quite right.”
