i've obviously been adding bit by bit to my amazon and smashwords catalogues the past few weeks, putting in my 7-20k short stories available as cheap ebooks, and every time i see the little amazon kdp thing

and like. every time i'm just like... wow what a scam fhsdjkgh

like obviously for a specific cohort of writers, it's useful enough - a lot of erotic writers who specifically cater their work to the kdp loyal crowd can work with it but like. i shudder to think of like, a normal trans person hearing them talk about it and trying the same

bc so many trans and queer people just don't buy from amazon at all, and understandably, let alone would subscribe to an amazon-exclusive bit of fiction

it's just the fact that because amazon's deal is always about trying to establish an aggressive monopoly they demand exclusivity - if kdp was like, hey, bop your stuff in here and ppl can read it on a subscription and you get paid a quarter of a cent per page read, i'd be grand with it

but it's the expectation that your work be placed in amazon's maw and denied to all other storefronts and sellers, including your own fuckin website, patreon, or whatever

it's just so utterly absurd, and is such a trap for newer creators

not at all! i’m glad to be getting more people into this idea haha

this is more of a theory but y’know how gyro mentioned that he’s working on a shadow control ray? i feel like that invention will be what finally gives lena a physical form and because of that, she’ll be pretty thankful to gyro and that’s how they kinda start bonding! gee i really do need to write this out huh

lena becomes really interested in all of gyro’s inventions and probably drives him wild trying to touch them despite him asking her not to but eventually, he heeds her genuine interest and has fun showing all of the different things he makes to her! maybe one day she’ll even take up inventing herself….who knows?

ok kinda sappy but i love the idea of gyro being the first person lena goes to about her crush on webby and he’s kinda like “why are you telling me this do you think i know about this stuff” but reluctantly helps her to his best ability because he can’t just leave her hanging

already kinda mentioned this one yesterday but they’re both snarky and chaotic so they have a lot of fun just talking to each other about shit fhsdjkghs watching bad horror movies is even funner with lena around because while gyro can complain about the inaccurate uses of science, she can complain about the inaccurate uses of magic 

not to venture into angst territory and i don’t want to go into detail about this because it involves elaborate headcanons that will be addressed in a certain fic i helped write but i like to think her and gyro have some things in common when it comes to their “blood” family and it feels nice for them both to have someone who relates to that

gyro isn’t exactly the best with kids (or rather kids who aren’t robots) but he has the biggest soft spot for lena and webby and even if he won’t admit it, he loves it when they hang out in the lab
