Another batch of Gijinkas ^^
Truro "City of Truro" West
Age: 49
Height: 188cm
Head of the famous West family and owner of the steam engine City of Truro, which he purchased due to being a rich railway entusiast and their aligning names. Truro became a nationwide icon for everything Great Western and is basically worshipped by everyone of that background such as Duck. Despite being in a very influential position, he is quite modest and laid-back, being completely unbothered when having conversations with the "common people". The Wests have a years long rivalry with the Gresleys and so everyone expected that Truro would be mortal enemies with the current head of the Gresleys, Scott but unbeknownst to everyone, the two became secret lovers.
Dennis Bulleid
Age: 21
Height: 193 cm
Norman's older fraternal twin brother and the former biggest slacker you will ever meet. Dennis never took anything serious and always only did the bare minimum, avoiding all extra form of work where he could. His lazy attitude shined a bad light on the public for the Bulleids and after an incident he caused, he and Norman were disowned by their parents. Norman, in a rage, cut ties with Dennis and left him all by his own. It served as a wake up call for Dennis and is currently working to find a path for himself and a way to make up with his family, especially Norman, who he dragged down with him.
Marion Huber
Age: 26
Height: 167 cm
A happy-go-lucky construction worker, operating a steam shovel. She is always eager to get to work and do a good job, going into them with a playful approach. She has a lot of good luck regarding findings like dinosaur bones. Marion gets easily distracted or can be quite oblivious to thinks going on around her like not realizing that Oliver Armstrong the engine driver and Oliver from the Pack were two different people or taking Bert, Rex and Mike's methaphors literal.
Sutton "Splatter" Derby and Doug "Dodge" Derby
Age: 50
Height: 183 cm
Diesel 10's personal henchmen, working for him ever since he took on his position as mafia boss. They follow all of his orders but tend to question a lot of deciasions but would not go further do to their fear of D10. They prefer to complain and gossip behind everbody's back like over the fact being called "Splodge" by their boss and are quite cowadly, yet they can still be very cruel and no atrocity goes too far for them. Unlike Arry and Bert, these two have no attachment to Diesel and actually look forward to punishing him for turning on them.
Glynn Wrightson
Age: 68 (at disappearence)
Height: 170 cm
An engineer that lived a long time ago. He helped constructing the so called coffeepot engines and assisted in the foundation of british railway. One day he disappeared without a trace in a very similar way to Hiro and was found on present day Sodor by Marion. The kind elderly man now lives on the island, working for Ulfstead Castle while he is still trying how to navigate through the modern days
Stephen Hawthorns
Age: 72 (67 at disappearence)
Height: 179 cm
Just like Hiro, Glynn, Skarloey, Rheneas and Duke, he lived a long time ago, right at the invention of steam engines to be exact, and went missing after making a name for himself. He reappeared as a pseiuo-spirit like Hiro and the others and was found by the Earl of Sodor, Sir Robert Norramby. Due to Stephen's mysterious circumstances, his true identity as a figure in British history is being kept a secret. Stephen and the Earl became good friends and decided to travel the worls together and when returning to Sodor to restore Ulfstead Castle with him as the tour guide, operating The Rocket. He found King Godred's missing crown after being trapped in an abandoned mine.
He is a jolly old man with a positive attitude and a good sense of humor. And despite not really understanding his situation, me makes the best out of it in Ulfstead with his friends the Earl, Glynn and Millie.
Millie Deceuville
Age: 34
Height: 175 cm
Millie is the personal assistant of the Earl of Sodor, who now works at Ulfstead Castle with two mysterious seniors Stephen and Glynn. She is also responsible for the two newbies Connor and Caitlin, being a guardian for the siblings. Millie never judges anyone over their appearance and quickly lectures those who do, defending the ones being judged. She bonded with Toby, who worked at Ulfstead for a few days, where he and Millie stopped buglars from stealing treasures.

“Rachel Hawthorne,” 23 (USA 1984)
What happened to Rachel* should never happen again.
Rachel was a 23-year-old Indigenous woman living in Indiana. Though she herself was a Pro-Life Christian, this did not save her from suffering an abortion herself. She was a victim of domestic abuse and was killed by a legal abortion she didn’t want or believe in.
Rachel’s last days were spent in an Indianapolis hospital dying of sepsis and shock. Though her family knew the circumstances of her death were under investigation by local authorities, even members of her immediate family were not told of the results. They were allowed to believe that Rachel died from a stillbirth.
Over 40 years later, a researcher stumbled upon the long-closed coroner’s case among the Marion county coroner’s archives. A family member was contacted and finally given the coroner’s report that they had never been shown. It took more than four decades to be given the truth about what had been done to Rachel and her baby.

Beach Love: "Glasses and Missy" at Komodo Island
(FCs:
Sloane Washington: Nelly Muse
Alana Kusuma: Marion Jola)
So I've always had it in my mind that in both my poly!MCs-verses esp, Sloane and Alana begin to date at some point. I really liked the vibes I got from them in canon, so it's always been on my mind to pair them up. I feel like Sloane would get together with Khaan and Alana at least in every universe of mine, but at different times and with a different set of circumstances (in two of those universes Alana is involved with my polyam!MCs - Basil and Hawthorne - as well)
I envision that for their fifth year as a couple, Alana takes Sloane to Indonesia for a holiday. It's actually part of a group trip, but Alana wanted to treat her to something special and brought her there early.
Alana's not very keen on stuff that seems to indicate commitment tbh, so her doing this for Sloane is a pretty big deal. A few small hcs I have about this holiday:
• They binge out on bakso (meatballs!) and grilled corn
• Both love collecting seashells. Alana likes the worm snail and conch type, Sloane loves the scallop style and horse conch. Also colourful helmet shells.
• Sloane has gone snorkeling with the MC before (Basil gets her a pearl, Hawthorne gets her a seashell), but this time Alana and Sloane go river rafting. It's terrifying and exhilarating at the same time - but Sloane can always trust Alana to get her to push herself without feeling unsafe.
• They love watching the sunset together.
• Sloane has phases where she loves the beach, and where she isn't at all into it (sensory issues), but this holiday fortunately happens at a point when she's absolutely down for it.
• Sloane develops a taste for Arak Bali during her stay. She takes a bottle home.
• Did they do any skinny dipping? Yes they did, though Sloane did think a thousand times before taking that plunge. Nadia was so proud 😄
Tagging @sloanewashingtonappreciationweek and @sazanes for SWAW Day 4: Happy Valentine's Day!
Tagging @choicespride for the Valentine's Day event:

Harriet the Spy is my all time favorite book. I don’t think I’ve ever related to a fictional character more. There was a period of time in my life where I would read the whole book every single day because I related so much to Harriet. As an adult, I still relate to her. If I was a fanfic writer, I would write a fanfic of Harriet the Spy as an adult and all of her friends as adults. Did Marion Hawthorne grow up into a Lady Hitler as Harriet predicted? Did Pinky Whitehead even survive into adulthood? Beth Ellen Hansen and Harriet probably became better friends as adults and Harriet and Sport probably sadly grew apart. Where did Janie go to college and what did she study?

Lillian Gish at MGM
John Gilbert and Lillian Gish in La Bohème (King Vidor, 1926)
La Bohème (King Vidor, 1926)
Cast: Lillian Gish, John Gilbert, Renée Adorée, George Hassell, Roy D'Arcy, Edward Everett Horton, Karl Dane, Mathilde Comont, Gino Corrado, Eugene Pouyet. Screenplay: Frédérique De Grésac; titles: William M. Conselman, Ruth Cummings; based on a novel by Henri Murger and an opera libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. Cinematography: Henrik Sartov. Art direction: Cedric Gibbons, A. Arnold Gillespie. Costume design: Erté. Film editing: Hugh Wynn.
Bohème without Puccini, except for a few themes from the opera interpolated into the piano accompaniment for some contemporary prints. The screenplay by Frédérique (billed as Fred) De Grésac is said to be "suggested by Life in the Latin Quarter" by Henri Murger, which is also the source of the opera libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. But the librettists took liberties with Murger, combining several characters and incidents, that are copied in the movie, so it's pretty clear that De Grésac paid at least as much attention to the opera as he did to Murger. It's very much a vehicle for Lillian Gish, making her debut at MGM. She wanted John Gilbert to play Rodolphe to her Mimi, but sometimes seems to be playing an anything-you-can-do-I-can-do-better game with her co-star. There is, for example, a scene in which Gilbert acts out the proposed ending to the play he is writing, with much swashbuckling. Then, a few scenes later, Gish acts it out again with similar verve for a potential backer for the play. Their courtship is a surprisingly hyperactive one, particularly in the scene in which they and their fellow bohemians go on a picnic that involves much running about. And Gish is not content to die calmly: On hearing that she won't live through the night, she makes a mad dash across Paris to be reunited with her lover, at one point allowing herself to be dragged along the streets while hanging onto the back of a horse-cart. Gilbert poses with feet apart and arms akimbo much too often, and the starving bohemians are given to much dashing and dancing. (Among them is the endearing and enduring Edward Everett Horton as Colline.) It's all a bit too much, and I have a feeling that the print I saw shown at the wrong speed, giving it that herky-jerky quality we used to attribute to silent films before experts corrected the speed at which they should be projected. The costumes are by the celebrated designer Erté, who is said to have had so much trouble working with Gish that he gave up designing for Hollywood.
Lars Hanson and Lillian Gish in The Scarlet Letter (Victor Sjöström, 1926)
The Scarlet Letter (Victor Sjöström, 1926)
Cast: Lillian Gish, Lars Hanson, Henry B. Walthall, Karl Dane, William H. Tooker, Marcelle Corday, Fred Herzog, Jules Cowles, Mary Hawes, Joyce Coad, James A. Marcus. Screenplay: Frances Marion, based on a novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Cinematography: Henrik Sartov. Art direction: Cedric Gibbons, Sidney Ullman. Film editing: Hugh Wynn.
I'm pretty sure that any high school students who think they can get by watching Frances Marion's adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter instead of reading it are likely to be disappointed in English class. That said, no film version is going to reproduce the depth of characterization, the symbolic force, or the intellectual density of Hawthorne, so we should be grateful for what this one does give us: one of Lillian Gish's greatest performances. This was Gish's second film for MGM, after La Bohème, and it suggests that her talents were better suited to a contemplative director like Victor Sjöström -- or Seastrom, as MGM insisted on anglicizing his name -- than to King Vidor's more action-oriented style. If her Mimi in La Bohème was disturbingly hyperactive, her Hester Prynne is a marvel of understated acting. She uses her eyes and mouth and the tilt of her chin to convey a miraculous range of emotions, from stubbornness to fear, from strength to frailty. It's a pity that her Dimmesdale, Lars Hanson, doesn't match her in subtlety. He's more successful in this regard in their 1928 collaboration The Wind, which was also directed by Sjöström.

Charles William Ewan, BJU Class of 1955.
Charles William Ewan, 87, of Fergus Falls, MN, died on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.
Charles William was born on January 8, 1937, in Fargo, ND, to Charles L. and Mary Ewan, at the home of the midwife, on the corner of 10th St. and 9th Ave. South. He attended Hawthorne Grade School, Agassiz Junior High School, and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1954. Charles attended Bob Jones University for 1 ½ years, after which the labor market called. He worked at a number of different jobs for a few years, including being introduced to the ministry of Christian radio at KFNW in Fargo, where he worked for two years. Chuck went on to attend Bible School at Lutheran Brethren Schools, after which he finished college at Moorhead State University in Moorhead, graduating in 1965.
Chuck’s seminary education began in January of 1966. It was while there, fortuitously, that he met the love of his life, Marilyn Lund of Alamo, ND, who was working as an RN in Minot, ND. The couple met in March, were engaged in June and married on October 28, 1966. Seminary was interrupted by a call to serve at the Christian Radio Station in Minot, ND. The couple moved to Minot in the early spring of 1967 and he spent 12 years serving in several different capacities at the station.
In the Spring of 1982, Chuck received a call from Inspiration Lutheran Brethren Church in Wahpeton, ND, a call that gave him the opportunity to be back at Seminary to continue preparation for parish ministry. Chuck served there for 6 years, the first 3 of which were as a part time pastor and a part time student. He graduated from Lutheran Brethren Seminary in 1985.
In June of 1988, the family was called to serve Bunker Hill Lutheran Church in Princeton, NJ, where he served for 13 ½ years. The couple returned to Fergus Falls in the Fall of 2001, where he had been invited to pastor Swan Lake Lutheran Church, an independent church with close ties to the Lutheran Brethren, where he served for another 12 years.
Full retirement came after serving as an interim Chaplain at Broen Home for about 2 years, and briefly, for Hospice, also for Lutheran Brethren Homes.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marilyn Ewan of Fergus Falls, MN; three children, Marit (Matt) DeKok of Princeton, NJ, John Ewan of Fullerton, CA and Eric (Catherine) Ewan of Fergus Falls, MN; nine grandchildren, Nicole (Bruce) Shaffer, Amanda DeKok, Sean DeKok, Augusta (John) Vall, Audra (Isaiah) Dorn, Owen Ewan, Thor Ewan, Alexa Ewan and Annika Ewan; along with numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; Charles and Mary Ewan and siblings, Marion Larson and Earl Ewan. God Bless the Memory of Charles “Chuck” Ewan.

For the ask:
Palm tree 🌴
palm tree: "do you have a fictional villain you shouldn’t like but love regardless?"
I struggled a bit thinking for this one 'cause I wasn't sure how to weigh why a villain I genuinely like shouldn't be liked sfdgdgw, but...
While I don't think I want to call her a villain per se; "antagonist" might be a better fit, I'm gonna go with Marion Hawthorne from Harriet the Spy—I guess why I shouldn't like her would be 'cause of how (personally) she takes it a step too far ostracizing and tormenting Harriet and her helping encourage everyone to do the same when she loses her journal, and she's especially not fun to read in the book like I recall her ego and unkindness being a bit much (granted it was by design). That said, I think her portrayal in the show is fun to watch and more fleshed out, and her history with Harriet being hinted and/or explored more in S2 really added to me liking her better.
