I love that Sanji reports to Luffy he’ll be leaving for a bit before running after the samurai
It’s these subtle things that show he respects his Captain but Luffy is so laidback (a. Bc he doesn’t impose his position very often and b. He’s confident Sanji can handle any trouble that comes his way) that he just says go for it without looking to see him off. And Sanji runs off without another word.
Also love that Nami sent Zoro with Brook and Sanji, not for back up but to keep Sanji focused on fighting with Zoro and not perving on her body XD
Body swapping antics done so damn well man. I love that for the most part, the other Straw Hats aren’t skipping a beat at the mixed up bodies and just accept it as the current norm that will likely be resolved down the line.

I love Crocodile x Dragon because it only makes sense to a very few crazy people ///
Keep reading for my head canons/storyline (spoilers Headegg)
I'm rolling with a transmasc Crocodile headcanon who was part of the revolutionaries (or what precedes it) and he ended up leaving after loosing his hand in a conflict that could have been avoided. He wants to overthrow the World Government but he thinks Dragon is too soft and slow and that's why he'll try to take over Alabasta and create Cross Guild later on. He still very much wants to destroy the government but he wants to be a pirate not a revolutionary. He's also Luffy's second dad hehe
He met Dragon in his early twenties. They had a pretty big age gap but when it comes to power imbalance Dragon was not winning. Crocodile was savage and ready to shoot a bullet between your eyes if you annoyed him whereas Dragon was bad at communicating and a bit creepy at first when he was just a big softie with great goals and ideals. He was also really chill with queer people as some of his best friends are Queen Emporio Ivankov and my favorite transfem egg : Vegapunk ! (but that's a theory for another time krkr)
In the end Crocodile became attached to this big idealist with a pretty pleasant personality while Dragon was fascinated by the cold and intense Crocodile. But their relation didn't last very long and Crocodile was fed up with the revolutionary army and took his leave. They both didn't really have another relationship after and none of them really took care of the offspring their union created. (Dragon was looking at him from afar and Crocodile completely lost track of him but was reminded sometimes that this child existed, he only realized his son was Luffy at Impel Down/Marinford)
Anyway I love this ship because it's really the biggest white canvas, we know nothing about Dragon and Crocodile's past and I love to make up things. I love how Crocodile is the melting pot for theories too (is he the former Kuja impress ?? Is he Whiteboard son ?? Rocks D Xebec's ??? (I like this one because we don't know sh*t about Xebec either ))
If you read all of this damn thanks first + don't hesitate to share your headcanons you probably have some fjdkdl

Do the animal pirates still have ships or do they sort of just float/swim with their biggest/strongest swimmer? Does Ace just ride on Whitebeard’s back? Does Whitebeard PULL his ship?
….does Sanji still cook meat? (I mean I guess goats sort of eat everything)
Mihawk beating Zoro by just. Flying away.
I think its would be better if they DO have ships, but some of them looking little different!
Maybe Whitebeard does rides his crew on his back, but it's a special case, cus he can and loves his family. And there is two regular ships that kinda mimic his looks, like the original blue ones that we seen near white whale ship at marinford
Also Hawkeye's boat is just someone's floating nest with a cool stick he found:

One Piece Shipping War - Round 1 Side D

CrocoDragon edit made by @braindeadmaggot ❤
Propaganda under the cut.
Propaganda for Crocodile x Dragon:
I love the crocomom theory which means these two must have got it on at some point. I think there's potential here.
they're Luffys parents
Even if Crocomom isn't cannon they'd still look good and have nice chemistry
I will live and die on the Crocomom hill and this is one of the requirements for it to be possible.
Propaganda for Doflamingo x Crocodile:
they had one interaction in the entire manga/show but it gave such Divorced vibes. they just kept staring and glaring at each other like,,, ok. they definitely have a History. doflamingo (depending on the translation) kept saying allusive things like “Let’s hook up!” and “You’re teaming up with Whitebeard? Don’t make me jealous!” like he has it down baddd for crocodile. also don’t get me started on when Oda drew a “What if they teamed up?” scenario where doflamingo has his arm around him, while crocodile wears both a flamingo and a crocodile wearing crowns on his jacket.
I just like awful dilfs in love 😔
two fuckin freaks lmfao
I like the potential for very toxic dynamics also the comedy of their clashing personalities
Honestly, I just think they’re really funny. Weirdass middle aged men, twice divorced, in spite of never being married in the first place. The drama and darkness of it all is great too; but mostly they’re funny.
Most divorced
I really feel like doflamingo flirting at marinford.

"The Hat"
Luffy: Oh no...
Luffy: Oh no, no, no, noooo....
"Luffy runs all over the Sunny. He checks every room and every spot. Logical and illogical. The more he searches the more panicked he gets"
Robin: What's the matter, captain? You've been running over the ship for two hours!
"Luffy turns to her with the mix of sadness and fear in his expression"
Luffy: Robin...
Robin: Oh, what happened, Luffy?
Luffy: I... I lost my hat...
"The next half of an hour all of the crew was searching for captain's hat. They hoped that Luffy just checked in some ridiculous spot and missed the obvious place. Many had the positive prognosis on their search. But surprisingly they found nothing so far"
Zoro: Don't worry, Luffy. We're gonna find it. I bet it's on the ship somewhere
Nami: Yes! Where was the last time you saw it?
Luffy: On our last stop?... I must have left it there!..
Sanji: Oi, don't be so pessimistic! I'm pretty sure I saw you set sail with it on. Almost sure...
Luffy: Eeeeeegh....
"The most unexpected thing happened at that moment. Usually happy and cheerful Luffy... Cried. At least that's what his crew thought it was. Luffy covered his eyes with his hands, and his shoulder starts shacking. Straw Hats quickly surrounded him"
Sanji: Hey, Luffy! Don't be sad! We'll find it!
Nami: It's alright, Luffy! It's somewhere on the ship, we were just searching badly!
Brook: Do you want me to play a song, that makes you happy???
Robin: Don't cry, captain! It couldn't just stay on the island. You're wouldn't allow it.
"Luffy rubbed his eyes and let out a hiccup. Everyone got scared more"
Luffy: I wouldn't! But... It could fly off by the wind while no one was watching! Or it could fall from my back into the river. Or it could-!...
Franky: OW! You won't help the situation if you're gonna be SUPER stressed about it! Just trust us, ok! We will find the hat eventually! And even if we don't, then we just gonna turn around and search for it back on the island!
Chopper: Yes, we will! But... Will Traffy be happy about us changing the course?
Nami: I'm sure he will understand! Alright, guys! Scatter around the ship! Let's find the hat!
Ussop: Oh! Did I told you, that I once find a lost dinosaur exhibit from the museum using my deduction skills? With me you'll find it in no time!
Robin: Maybe, Kin'emon and Momo took it? We should ask! Wait here, captain
Luffy: "Hic" Ok...
"While everyone scattered around the ship, Luffy sat down on the ground, hugging his knees. It was a treasure to him. How could he allow himself to lose it?.. Meanwhile a certain person, who woked up by the sounds appeared beside him"
Law: It's pretty loud today. Is something happened?
"Luffy raised his head to look at Trafalgar. His eyes was emitting sadness"
Luffy: I lost it...
Law: What did you lost?
Luffy: My treasure! My hat...
Law: Oh.
"Law sat next to him, looking at him rather surprised. He didn't saw Luffy sad since the whole Marinford incident. Straw Hat wasn't a guy, who could be broken down that easily. These two years Trafalgar was genuinely worried that Luffy wasn't willing to continue his adventure after such a hit. Yet he was glad that he won't be doing the plan alone, when he saw Luffy happy as usual on the Punk Hazzard"
Law: Is it important to you, since you're so sad about it?
Luffy: Yes! It's a present! I need to return it to an important person when I become King of the Pirates! And know it's gone!
Law: Are you sure, you just didn't leave it somewhere?
Luffy: I'M NOT! I'm not sure ok! Anything could happen to it! Remember the fight we've had on the previous island!? It could flew off in the brawl! And I didn't notice! It could have fallen into the ocean! Or someone might have stole it! Or-...
Law: Hey! Don't panic. It's just gonna make things worse. I don't see anything bad in losing a hat sometimes
Luffy: Yeah... Traffy, always loses his hat
Law: Wha-... No I'm not! Besides I'm always return it. My hat is important to me as well.
Luffy: Yeah. I remember you wore it back at Sabaody. I don't remember how exactly it looked like, but I remember that it looked funny!
Law: Hey! It just-... It was-!!.. It was fashionable in the place I was born!
Luffy: Nishishi! Traffy is blushing!
Law: Oh, quit it...
Luffy: Thank you, Traffy. I fell a lot better now!
"Luffy stood up"
Luffy: Welp! No more panicking! I'll go search with others! Thanks, Traffy!
Law: Yeah... Good luck to you finding it!
"When Luffy left, Law stood up and looked around the perimeter"
Law: Room!
Sanji: Yeah, no way, it really stayed on a fucking island!
Zoro: If we let it get lost then I don't think that we're worthy to be on Luffy's crew.
Robin: It could be in the sea monsters stomach by now...
Nami: So what? We're really turning back?
Franky: It seems so... Damn, Traffy will be so damn pissed at us!
Luffy: It's ok, guys. Thanks for searching it... Guess, it's really lost... Well... I guess it's just destiny.
Robin: Oh, Luffy...
"Now Luffy was really crying. The tears were dripping down his cheeks and falling on to the ground"
Luffy: I'm sure, Shanks will be upset... But he will understand... He always did...
Sanji: Oh... Oh no...
Nami: Luffy!..
Law: You still searching?
"Straw Hats looked at their guest, who was walking towards them"
Luffy: No... We're done... It's gone...
Law: You're not seem happy about it. Why stop then?
Luffy: Because... It is nowhere to be found!.. Seems like it's really got lost on the island...
Law: Doubt that.
Luffy: Why?
Zoro: Just admit that you don't want to go back, you heartless goth.
Law: It's not the deal
Law: Shambles
"That second the straw hat appeared in Law's hand. He gently handles it to Luffy, trying to smile warmly"
Law: Don't lose it anymore
"Luffy's expression changes from the shock to pure happiness. He wipes the tears from his cheeks, immediately running to Law and huging him. Trafalgar has to hold the hat up to keep it safe from Luffy's gratitude"
Luffy: OH MY GOD, YOU FIND IT, TRAFFY! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Where was it been!? I've searched for ages! Everyone was!
Law: I've found it in one of those robots in the Docks. You've must have left it there, to keep it safe that time we used them
Luffy: Oh! Damn! Know I remember! I store it in the drawer so it wouldn't get damaged! Thanks, Traffy! I'm so glad!
"Luffy looked at him with gratitude. His cheeks was burning from the amount of emotions he was feelings. It felt like the sun have smiled at Law that moment. For the first time these years... He felt himself warm"
Law: That's why I allow myself to lose my hat all the time. I always can find it in the end. Don't worry, if you lost it. I'll just use Room to get it for you.
Luffy: Traffy is so kind! Thank you, Traffy! I owe you so much!
Law: You'll return the favor to me, when we deal with Kaido
"Luffy put his hat back on, covering his eyes and red cheeks. Only the wide smile was seen at the moment. That was enough for Trafalgar to melt"
Law: Don't lose it next time. And, please, remember where you leave it. And don't get used to me helping you. I will not be there everytime to search for it.
Luffy: But you're in my team, so that's means you'll be there to help very often!
Law: NO, I'M NOT!
"Meanwhile Straw Hats was looking at their bickering with mysterious smiles on their faces"
Nami: ...Did you saw that?
Zoro: Saw what?
Sanji: Oh yes. I definitely saw that
Robin: Huhu~ It's seems that Law is melting around our captain.
Ussop: Phew! He was so tense when he got there! I was so afraid that he was distancing himself from everyone! Guess Luffy can find a way to melt even such emotionally unavailable guy's heart!
"The crew was quietly discussing the situation, while trying to pretend that they didn't noticed the blush on Law's cheeks and the small smile he shared with their captain"

I just wanted to say that post-Marinford comic hits me in the feels when Ace and Dragon hug as it calls back to Dragon and Ace's first meeting.
If you're still trying to figure out Crocodile's background, I really suggest having it tie to Whitebeard (either as his biological child or an early adoption) as it could add so much story potential for the why's of Ace's joining the Whitebeards.
Yeah, it still hits me in the feels too, wah...!
I'm still not sure what to do in this AU. I'm sure I'll explore the Crocodile is Whitebeard's kid at one point. Stinky child AU was supposed to have Crocodile as a former Kuja pirate but I guess I'll examine that in another AU? Ugh. So many choices! X'DD
I do think that considering Crocodile has changed his priorities in this AU he would not really want to challenge Whitebeard to a fight. What for? Sure, hubris might by one of Crocodile's flaws and he might really just get back into the pirating lifestyle after his secret paternity leave (which he doesn't really have to. He's basically a government employee at that point) but... WB is quite a choice...
So either they clash because they have a backstory and Crocodile cannot control his temper around him which makes him reckless and foolish. (And then he gets harshly punished by getting sent back home with a wounded pride and missing one hand.) Or they don't have a backstory and Crocodile probably having to beg for his life, admitting that he has family (and WB telling him that he has no business being out at sea) is what made him hate him.
The question is just, how would Crocodile being WB's child add to this universe. Especially if we take into consideration that Crocodile has probably been female until (long?) after he left WB's crew. Like, would WB even take him on his ship? How would the fall out happen? What difference would it make to WB knowing that Ace and Luffy are his grandkids? Etc etc. Lots of questions that need to be figured out~
(Which is interesting of course.)
It's also just interesting to contrast Ace's struggles with the burden of his bloodline with Crocodile who has never belonged to anything bigger than what he made of his life (until he married into the Monkey family...)

Sooo, I have this AU where Ace dies in Marinford and goes back 23 years to the past, and a lot of things happen, but to make a long story short he is now called Gol D. Hibiscus, he is Roger's "brother" and he saves adopts and train a lot of people.
Are people interested in knowing what happens next? Because it's actually a very elaborate AU, with a lot of fix it for everyone, and a little bit of angst for Ace/Hibiscus <3

Trafalgar Law, the Don Quixote brothers, and why Doffy takes such personal offence to the existence of Lawlu (Part 1: Faith)
1. How can you trust Straw-hat so much?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Doflamingo kicks up a huge fuss about Law forming an alliance with Luffy from the get go, and continues to go on about it till literal moments before he gets put down by Luffy at the end of the arc.
Up until this point we've seen Law act pretty casual about his relationship with Luffy – he saved him at Marinford on a whim, he's forming an alliance out of convenience, "this doesn't mean we’re friends". It isn't until we see Doflamingo's reaction to this development that we realize the importance it holds for Law's character, and stop to think about what it might represent, given the context of his past. To Doflamingo, who’s seen Law at his lowest – who’s seen the kid who’d stopped believing in anything, and wanted to destroy the world – Law’s faith in Luffy, who seems to stand in antithesis to all that Doflamingo stands for, is a huge fucking deal.
Doflamingo already knows, of course, what changed his heart all those years ago. But he asks anyway, because Law showing up here with Luffy, even after all this time, feels like salt being rubbed in the wound; Doffy’s pride can’t take it. Law gives him the easy answer – the simple, surface level answer. He trusts Luffy because he believes in the will of D, because Cora-san believed in the will of D.
But we all know there’s a lot more to it than that.
2. Why did you choose him, Law?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
13 years ago, Doflamingo lost Law, his chosen successor, to Rocinante. That’s what he’s seeing every time he’s faced with Law’s partnership with Luffy – that’s why he’s so hung up over it. Law being here with Luffy just serves as a reminder of him choosing Corazon, all those years ago. A reminder that even though it was Doflamingo who pulled the trigger to kill his own brother, in the end, Corazon won. They were both children of the same wretched circumstances, but where Doffy decided to destroy the world for what it had done to him, Cora chose instead to save it. Then along comes Law, another child ravaged by fate, and Doffy sees in him an exact mirror of his past. Sees a weapon, ripe for the taking  – one that might someday be used to destroy the world at his behest.
That is, until Corazon manages to save him, too.  And in trying to live up to the man Cora-san would want him to be, Law stumbles into becoming the sort of person who would stand side by side with the ‘fool’ that is Straw-hat Luffy.
3. Why do you want to die in vain ... alongside this dumbshit?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It isn’t about the Will of D, not really. The first time Law laid eyes on Luffy, he watched the guy punch a Celestial Dragon in the face without a second’s hesitation, because it was the right thing to do. If it weren’t for this moment, Law would never have been compelled to sail to Marineford, thus putting his entire crew in danger, to save the life of an almost-stranger bearing the initial of D. There’s a quality in Luffy that drew Law to him, and it’s the same sort of quality that incited Cora-san to ditch his mission and run off to save Law’s life.
It’s the sort of quality that Doflamingo, for all his talk, could never hope to understand.

Yeah hello hi I've been falling deep into the Crocodad Rabbithole and my brain is being consumed by small crocodile-shaped worms
So I've done what any reasonable person would do, I went back to rewatch some scenes from Alabasta and Marinford to psychoanalyze Crocodile and try to figure out what the fuck his deal is because genuinely the more I think about it the more questions I have and the more I want answers. And because I'm deranged I need to write all my thoughts down into an incoherent essay and release it into the world
So please, come along with me while and let's be Extremely Normal About Sir Crocodile Together and speculate about his ~Secret Past~
Tumblr media
Quick note, my quickest access to some of these episodes is either through unsubbed episodes (not bothering with getting screenshots since there's no subs, also my Japanese is plenty good enough to not need it here) or through Ancient, Questionable Fansubs so don't get too hung up on the phrasing in the subbed screenshots- like they're not entirely inaccurate but y'know
The reason I want to do this is just that... Like I've been a fan of OP since 2008, when I was in middle school. I don't think I ever really tried to think deeper about this series in general at that time, because I was a kid. For a long time to me Crocodile had just been Some Greedy Asshole who tried to take over a country to obtain a tool of mass destruction and IDK destroy the world? Just a very classic Bad Guy McVillianMan, because I had not bothered to think about his character and question anything before.
But now I have brainworms due to the Crocodad Theory, and this is fucking One Piece, you never fucking know how deep a rabbithole can go with this bloody series. So let's go, let's try to figure out what the fuck is Crocodile's deal, because I need to get these brainworms out of my fucking system
Tumblr media
I just want to start with this one quick throw-away line because it's kind of a sidenote. Also like. This is such a funny fucking thing for Crocodile to say if he is Luffy's dad. Like.
Tumblr media
That's so fucking funny if he's Luffy's dad holy shit
But what really gets me here is that like... Like while I'm like 70% sure Crocodile is trans, there's still a part of me that's like "there's no fucking way Crocodad is real". Let alone, this be some kind of a hint Oda planted to suggest that this early on. Like it sounds absurd. And yet at this point in One Piece, Oda had already started planning out and laying out the groundwork for so many lore and plot-relevant concepts, ranging from shit like everything about Robin, the Poneglyphs, the Ancient Weapons etc. He had already started the "Prince Sanji ARG" (aka dropping the tiniest fucking hints to Sanji's Hidden Backstory that people were able to pick up on and make accurate predictions with about Sanji's backstory). There's fucking Laboon, and about a bajillion other things. And possibly most importantly, by this point Oda had already revealed both Luffy's father and grandfather to the readers, not to mention he even introduced Ace and vaguely hinted at Sabo! It's not like Oda had everything perfectly planned out from the very begining, that is objectively not the case at all. But it also literally would not be unlike Oda to drop hints to a character's backstory like this. He has been doing that for years, and had already started by the time we met Crocodile. Like it feels insane and yet it's perfectly plausible. And if he had Luffy's dad, grandfather and two siblings planned out in his head already at this point, it should not be that much of a stretch to believe that Oda knows and no doubt has known for the past two decades who Luffy's mom is (regardless of if that's Crocodile or not)
All this to say. Crocodile's comment about what Cobra said to Vivi when they reunited is a funny, sarcastic comment. But it would take a whole new meaning if Crocodad was real. Because it really would be perfectly normal if he did/had wondered what he would say to his long lost child if they were ever reunited. And really that just makes his roast turn sad.
Anyways
In Alabasta, we do get a very clear image that Crocodile does not like the World Government, not just because he's a Big Meanie Pirate who wants to conquer the world, but because he does seem to look down on how the Marines + World Government do their "justice" (which, y'know, knowing what we know now about the Government. Fair. That's entirely fair.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He also dislikes Vivi's "idealism" of wanting to save everyone without bloodshed or anyone losing their lives (especially for her sake)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We learn that he is a broken man with broken dreams. Also he seems to be aware where he (supposedy) belongs in the Grand Line's power hierarchy, as in, he needs Pluton because he knows he's not strong enough in combat that he could take down anyone, let alone the World Government by himself (though he would still make a beeline for Whitebeard's head the second he saw him at Marinford, which, y'know, bold move)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And of course, we learn in Impel Down that Crocodile and Iva-chan have some beef. We can not say for 100% sure what that beef is (like the theory he's trans is very obvious and plausible, but until Oda spills the beans we won't know for a fact what the beef is), but we know that they knew each other. And if Crocodile knew Iva-chan, a high-ranking founding member of the Revolutionary Army, then it is genuinely plausible that Crocodile could also have known Dragon and/or been a member of the Revolutionary Army as well.
Since overthrowing the World Nobles and the Government are the Revolutionary Army's goal, the fact that they're trying to obtain weapons and people for their cause etc, Crocodile's view of the Government and his "Operation Utopia" does kind of align with the Revolutionary Army's
But we did also learn from Iva that "Crocoboy" isn't quite trustworthy. Needless to say, even if Croc used to be a part of the Army, he most certainly left YEARS ago, and clearly not on good terms.
Tumblr media
Also, an interesting note, is that at Marineford when Luffy and co finally arrive at the battlefield (episode 466, 17:25 minutes in), when Garp spots the group, he makes a specific comment about Crocodile being there together with the revolutionaries and the prison escapees, believing they can't all be here to fight for the same cause. Which is an interesting thing for him to point out specifically. Like Jinbei was another powerful person who entered that battlefield at the same time, and while Jinbei did clarify to Sengoku that he's quitting being a Shichibukai and was there to save Ace, it's still maybe a little odd Garp didn't think it was worth mentioning that Jinbei had also "allied" with the prison escapees and the revolutionaries to enter the battlefield. Like it was Crocodile only whom he thought needed to be pointed out. I don't think Garp's comment adds at all to Crocodad because it would frankly make little to no sense (like we're all assuming Crocodile didn't know Dragon's lastname, which is why he never realized Luffy was his son (despite knowing Luffy's lastname), but if Crocodile knew Garp was Dragon's father then surely he'd realize Dragon's lastname would be Monkey, right), but it could maybe add to the idea that Crocodile might've been a part of the Revolutionary Army in the past, as Garp could be aware of something like that, thus he'd be puzzled by Crocodile's presencee. Point is, it's an interesting comment, make of it what you will
EDIT 2: Ended up going back to reread parts of Marineford and turns out ^that^ was an anime-only addition from Toei. Like Garp does make a comment about how these people probs aren't at the battlefield for the same reasons but did not specifically point out Crocodile or anything. So. I wasted enough time adding these paragraphs to the post, I ain't deleting 'em. But y'know.
Tumblr media
EDIT: Minor addition, because I just remembered how Crocodile really went like out of his way to taunt Vivi about how she "can't stop the rebellion" and save her people. Which, y'know, is a perfectly normal Villian Thing To Do. But we know Crocodile does not think fondly of the World Nobles just like he dislikes the Government. Even if Cobra was a "good monarch" who genuinely cared for his people, he was still a king, and the Nefertari family and the Kingdom of Alabasta were a part of the World Government. The thing Crocodile specifically wanted to destroy. And this is just another one of those "surely that wasn't somekinda foreshadowing" but god fucking dammit what if Crocodile telling a(n unknowing) representative of the World Government that she can't stop "the rebellion", or the revolution if I may, (regardless of if he's allied with them or not) was actually meant to be like foreshadowing. Oda I swear to fucking god---
Anyway, so, Crocodile might've been a part of the Revolutionary Army at one point (the army was formed after the Ohara Incident 22 years ago, and for Crocodad Theorizing, Luffy was born 19 years ago), but if he did he must have left on bad terms for unknown reasons, and we can tell that although his goals in general could vaguely match that of the Revolutionaries, his methods most certainly don't.
Whether or not his methods and his worldview tie to his leaving the Army is unknown. Because we don't really know when and how his worldview was formed.
Like did Crocodile leave the Army because he became a cynical asshole who was willing to make any kind of sacrifice for his goals (thus he no longer fit in with the rest of the Revolutionary Army), realized he was far too weak to ever become Pirate King and thus decided to go looking for Pluton? Or did Crocodile suggest to the Army they should try to obtain an Ancient Weapon to keep casulties to a minimum (still in line with the Army), only ending up getting kicked out (big weapon bad), and soon realizing he had no chance at making a change in the world without "cracking a few eggs"?
Like it doesn't nececarily make a massive difference,, since the end result is still the same, but it does kind of affect the context and how one might view him, right
Of course, there's then the Forbidden Third Option, that Crocodile left due to
Gender issues (internalized shame of being trans and not having it in him to stay around people who had known him)
Postpartum depression
Dragon just divorced Crocodile either due to being straight (in a sad, accepting way) or due to being simply unaccepting and frankly homophobic, regardless, Crocodile leaves with a broken heart
Something else and/or a combo of the above, really, we could speculate endlessly here about what could've happened
(Though I will say that Crocodile's '"trust issues"' and how he views people as disposable could like. I dunno. Be explained if he had gone through some heartbreak and was left permanently unable to open up to people, let alone trust anyone)
Tumblr media
I dunno, there's a lot of options, a lot of things to considder.
But there is one more thing that I do want to note on as it could potentially debunk the Crocodad Theory entirely.
It's that Iva-chan didn't know Dragon had a son.
Tumblr media
(Episode 441, 9:50 minutes) By which I mean, Iva-chan wasn't shocked to find out Luffy was Dragon's son, rather, they were shocked there was a son to begin with. (To the point they thought Ace was also Dragon's son until Luffy cleared it up for them later) While it's not a massive leap to believe that Crocodile and Dragon knew each other (since Crocodile knew Iva-chan), nor is it a massive leap to believe that Iva-chan transed Crocodile's gender after having Luffy... It does become a bit of a leap to believe Iva-chan didn't know about Dragon having a child with Crocodile before giving Croc the Magic HRT. Like if they had a relationship that resulted in a baby and a divorce, how did Iva not know about any of it, especially when it's more than likely that Iva could not have transitioned Crocodile until after the baby was born (let's not think about how Iva-chan's powers would work on a pregnant person too much)
We do also get this flashback (in episode 441, immidiately after Luffy reveals his dad's identity to Iva) where Iva-chan questions Dragon about how he always stares out towards East Blue when the wind blows, wondering if Dragon has family out there whom he's thinking about (Dragon refusing to comment on it). This does very much confirm that regardless of who Dragon had Luffy with, Iva has no fucking clue who, where and how any of that happened. And althought I personally feel like Iva not knowing would debunk Crocodad, if Crocodile still somehow was Luffy's dad, Iva-chan would canonically not know about it. If Iva didn't know Dragon had a relationship that resulted in a baby, then regardless of if Iva even knew Crocodile got pregnant once, they would not be able to connect those dots.
Tumblr media
Now let's be clear, there's many potential scenarios where Crocodad could still be real, scenarios that could explain why and how Iva-chan didn't know about Luffy nor about Dragon and Crocodile having a relationship*. Like it would not be difficult at all to come up with an explanation for it. But in my mind, I feel like the more you have to figure out and explain how the theory could still be plausible, the less plausible it actually feels. Like the more I need to go out of my way to explain it, the more forced it seems.
*(For example, maybe the two kept their relationship a secret, and when Crocodile got pregnant he """left on a mission""" that happened to take like 4-10 months, during the time realizing he was trans. Once the baby had arrived he returned the baby to Dragon in secret for him to deal with, got a divorce for one reason or another*, and sought out Iva-chan to start a new life, Iva thus never found out about anything, just knew that Crocodile left one day after coming out. Like that's one plausible scenario.)
*Hey remember the potential Forbidden Reasons to why Crocodile might've left the Army? What if it was Dragon's and/or Crocodile's idea? Remember how when Jinbei is trying to escape Marinford with the unconcious Luffy, Crocodile tells Jinbei to do better job at "protecting those he wants to protect", a line that felt really sudden and odd coming from Crocodile of all people? What if the two knew their child would be in grave danger if he was ever raised within the army (absolutely not a place for a baby)? What if they knew their baby would become a target for the World Government to hunt, much like Roger's lost child was, if the Government found out Dragon had a baby? What if they wanted to make sure nothing bad ever happened to their baby and were willing to do anything to protect the baby? Even if it meant they'd never see their child grow up? Even if it meant hiding your child from your best friend, pretending to have a horrible fallout with them and transing your gender because Oda doesn't know what gender dysphoria is? Just so nobody would ever find out you had a child?
Mind you. I do not want anybody to think this is an actual argument for Crocodad. Like I could write a dozen different fanfics about how Crocodile could be Luffy's other dad, and they would all be just as much pure speculation with nothing to support them as the above suggestions. It is an example of what could have happened, and a deeply interesting thought, but it is just a theory at best.
In the end, it doesn't really matter though, because until the day Oda reveals Luffy's mom and/or Crocodile's backstory to us, we will truly never know for sure What The Fuck Crocodile's Deal Is
And I'll be just stuck with these brainworms, making myself sad by thinking about sad scenarios where Crocodad could be real, because truly, if it's canon, ain't no way it won't be sad

EDIT 3: Originally I thought it'd be good enough if I just rewatched some parts here and there, but in the end I just fucking absolutely caved the fuck in and went and reread The Good Parts of Marineford. Mainly because I knew I was forgetting things and Toei adding/changing things can affect a character reading. Also it was just going to be easier to go through the manga and literally just all of Crocodile's scenes into an image folder for easier browsing, mainly because there's so much shit that happens between those scattered scenes it can be hard to like focus on one thing (especially if you're trying to specifically FIND those scattered scenes and appearances)
So yeah. Coming back a few days later to add shit to this god forsaken post. I need help
Actually changed my mind and made a separate post to continue this nonsense, enjoy

Sooo imagine reader/ y/n escapes, they get to an island for a couple months evade capture but then marinford happens and the wb pirates are disbanded/scatters or doin there own thing but one of them end up on the same island as y/n with the obsession still intact and finding them again has rekindled it even more.
How would they react on when they're alone without the other's input?would they contact each other and group up? what would be going through their heads?
(yan au where everyone survives except wb)
💧-anon
(feel free to completely ignore my ramblings but i have so many things i think ab and need to tell/ask ❤️)
I feel how someone would react would depend on the crew member. I'm not going to hit up everyone, just my usual suspects, so bear with me.
CW: Yandere, dub con / non con vibes, nothing explicit a lot of what ifs and summaries.
Marco would not contact anyone else. I love this man, but Yandere Marco is POSSESSIVE. He shares you with his brothers only because they are his brothers. If no one else ended up on this island with you and him then that's a them problem, and not HIS problem.
Depending on the manner of your escape would depend how Marco was, but regardless of if he thinks you left or were stolen away, he'll be delighted to have you back. You'll never leave his sight again, and if you do have to be away from him for any reason he'll make sure he knows where you are.
You will drown in him, whether its his love or his anger, but he will mark you, fill you up, and leave you exhausted and delirious more than not.
Ace would contact the others. He'd be so relieved to see you safe, and whether anyone else thought you left, he'd be convinced it had to be against your will. He'll be seeking reassurance to that end, and if you're smart you're going to give it to him. Shore up your story if you need it with Ace's help, because the other will be far harder to convince, even if what you're telling is the truth.
Whatever happens, and however things play out though, you'll always run into Ace. He'll pop out of the ground like a fucking daisy sometimes, scaring the hell out of you even though that wasn't his intent. But playful or endearing, don't think for a second it's accidental.
If you don't reassure him, if you do tell him you left because you wanted to, his reaction will be worse. He'll claim you as his and you'll probably have burn scars by the time the others arrive. It'll take Marco weeks to get you back into some sort of semblance of who you were - assuming he can even soothe the scars.
Thatch will let you set the narrative, and hell he'll even let you decide if he reaches out to anyone else or not. If you want to elope with just him, he'd be more than happy to oblige. He doesn't mind sharing with his brothers, but he won't deny such a heart felt confession and plea from you either.
He's likely to do to you what Marco would, making love to you until you're a pile of mush, exhausted and almost out of your mind. His stamina far exceeds your own, and he has months of catching up to do, he's missed you so much. And don't worry, he'll feed you and make sure you're hydrated, even clean your home, and earn money, you'll be too tired to worry about any of that anyway.
With Izou in the mix the rope burns on your joints are apt to become permanent. It doesn't matter if you say you didn't want to leave, you'll never be able to be taken away so easily ever again. He'll let the others know about you, and your fate will probably be decided by committee.
You will be under the influence of something when you're questioned, so unless you're really good at lying that's not going to be an option here. You're likely to survive your punishment, for better or worse, but whatever island you end up on with everyone (whoever constitutes everyone), the islanders are going to understand your position in the crew. Or misunderstand it.
but the only friends you'll have will be the brothers that take care of you. You'll want for nothing, save maybe freedom.
