Chapter 5:
Thirty-Six Days Since Marinette Lost her Memory
“I’d like you to do a supplemental reading this weekend to fill in some of your historical gaps.”
Gaps was one word for it. She took the assignment without complaint though she wasn’t sure when she’d be able to do it.
“Girl! Why didn’t you say something?” Alya asked as they walked to their next class.
Marinette shrugged. “Because I do want to fill in my historical gaps?”
Like in an abstract way if she could just suddenly know it the way she knew how to swing through the city on a yo-yo. Not the I want to dedicate hours of my life to this kind of way.
“But you don’t have to do that all in one weekend!”
“Do you think old me would have said something?” Marinette doesn’t know why she’s asking. She hates the comparisons, but it’s like a scab she can’t help but pick at it when her friends and family keep commenting on how she’s different.
“You like the green one? I thought pink was your favorite color.”
It was! But that didn’t mean pink was always best for every single accessory.
“That’s a beautiful drawing,” her maman said of the sketch of her father. “Have you sketched any new designs recently?”
She hadn’t. She didn’t want to. Clothes weren’t interesting. But she knew her mother wanted her to say yes, so she hedged.
Lila had spilled coffee on Marinette’s bag in art class. It had definitely been on purpose. Marinette glared at the girl as she resolutely gathered all her things to clean elsewhere rather than dignifying Lila with a response.
“That was totally on purpose. Why didn’t you say anything?” Alya had asked after the fact.
Marinette piled her bag’s belongings carefully on a bench while she wrung out the backpack itself. “Didn’t really want her to know that she was getting to me.” Marinette’s diary had revealed that when Marinette make accusations against Lila, the other girl usually managed to twist it back on Marinette. She didn’t really want to make the same mistake when Lila didn’t believe she was holding a grudge. “Why?”
“Well, you used to always call her out on things. Chloé too.”
Marinette sighed. At least people had stopped asking what she remembered. Maybe they had finally figured out that she really didn’t remember anything.
But it seemed other people did and Marinette now was apparently different than the Marinette of old, and now Marinette was never sure if that was a good or bad thing.
“If old you thought the teacher was being unfair or unreasonable, she definitely would have said something, but she would have been totally silent than if she just didn’t have time.”
And thank goodness Alya was willing to be straightforward about such questions. Her parents were not. They were so diplomatic about answering such questions, but they always seemed sad.
She felt like she was disappointing them.
“What do you mean? You’re not disappointing them!” Alya had objected.
“But I am. They want me to be  her, and when I’m not, they’re sad.”
“They’re just worried about you.”
Marinette pressed her lips together. Yeah Marientte definitely knew that they were worried. Paranoid was more apt. They constantly texted, wanting to know where she was, to remind her to put on a helmet, and asking for check ins everytime a friggin’ akuma alert went off.
Which made it that much harder to get away to be Ladybug.
And she loved being Ladybug.
Her parents would probably be horrified.
“I just wish being me as I am now was okay.”
“Of course it’s okay.”
“But it isn’t , Marinette insisted, wanting to tug at her pigtails. She didn’t know how to explain, and Alya was looking at her with glassy eyes and Marinette knew she was disappointing her, too, though Alya was better at hiding it than anyone.
“You know that she’s you, right?” Alya asked softly.
Marinette shrugged. She might be, but it didn’t seem to matter to anyone else.
Literature had become more bearable now that they were starting a new novel. It was a story that no one in the class had read before. Marinette found the story riveting.
“Really?” Adrien asked. They had been partnered for a small presentation on the use of imagery in the book’s first three chapters. “What’s your favorite part so far?”
Goodness, he was so earnest. Even when they had been paired he had been so sweet about it when she was obviously the weaker link of the two of them.
“Sorry you were saddled with me for this project,” she had said.
“Marinette, you are the best partner to have in this whole world. I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Her cheeks had burned. Was this guy for real? She might’ve maybe understood what it was old Marinette had liked about him.
Really she probably would have fallen for him too if it wasn’t for the fact that Chat Noir was right there guarding her life and being serving as the best sounding board and confidant a girl could ask for.
“Hey, you okay?” he asked after the most recent akuma.
She was fine. She just didn’t want to stop being Ladybug yet. Being Ladybug made sense. Being Ladybug was simple and something she was good at. Marinette’s life was so complicated.
“I’m okay,” she said, determined for it to be true.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
Like, how did he do that?!
But fifteen minutes later they were sitting side by side on the Eiffel Tower each with their own ice cream cones as she vented to him about her mundane problems.
“I hate history. It’s the subject I know, like nothing about and my teacher— he’s trying to be patient, but he clearly doesn’t know what to do with me. He keeps assigning extra readings, but even when I have time to read them. They don’t mean anything.”
“That must be frustrating.”
She snorted. Understatement. “Even places on a map feel no more real than the map at the beginning of the fantasy novel we’re reading in literature.”
“I don’t know about history itself, but maybe we could do something about the geography?”
He stands up, and offers her a hand, which she of course takes. He pulls her to her feet like she’s a princess and pulls out a box of colored cheeses from his baton.
“What’s that?”
“These are power ups for our Kwamis.”
“We can power up our Kwamis?”
He offers her a piece of cheese. “Eat this one.” He takes one of the same color.
Soon they’re transformed. They have airtight helmets and wings. He levitates just barely into the air. She doesn’t move, staring dumbly at his offered hand.
“Come on. I’ll show you.” His voice resounds inside her helmet. It feels both like he’s far away and like he’s all around her.
She again takes it, because she’d trust him to take her anywhere.
He led her on a low altitude tour of Paris, pointing out landmarks that are historically significant. But he doesn’t just recount events. When he speaks of kings and dukes, he tells a story. And suddenly King Louis VI and King Louis the XIV are not only separated by time, but by personality and vision.
They’ve been flying for hours already, when he takes her higher. They’re above the clouds, starting to see the curvature of the earth when he points out Normandy, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Spain.
And then they’re further out, beyond even air they can breathe, and the Earth shines below them, a glowing blue marble in a vastness of inky blackness.
She can’t breathe as she takes in the sight. There’s a whole world down there. It’s so big, bigger than any of her problems, and yet it’s so small when they’re out here in space.
His voice is still describing the places they can see. Continents and oceans, but she can’t process the words anymore.
“M’lady?” he asks, floating to her side with yet another hand reaching out, offering her support again and again.
“You’re amazing!” she says, and is awarded with pink blooming underneath his visor. And he was. How did old Marinette never see or notice?!
He never takes anything seriously.
He’s always cracking jokes.
He flirts with everyone.
Marinette had slammed the diary closed after she read it. What the hell had old Marinette been talking about?!
She had started a new diary after that, and it definitely wasn’t Adrien she had been writing about.
Looking at his eyes now, even with only five weeks of memories she’s absolutely certain he’s the sweetest, most genuine boy that lives on the planet he just showed her. And he didn’t just show it to her. He made her see it, he made it real in a way that no one else had.
She reaches for his hand, lets their fingers interlock, and it feels right.
Holding his hand, she’s not worried about how she’s different or the same. It doesn’t matter what she remembers or has forgotten. With him, she feels like a whole complete person.
She loves that.
She loves him.

The Angel of Death Pt51
Inspired by this Story Starter by  @someone-ev
Prologue   Beginning  Previous   Next
Marinette woke slowly, in a bed this time at least. There was shouting coming from the next room and she groaned internally. Just one day of peace, was that so much to ask? Despite grumbling internally, she sat up and slowly went to the door. Her head still felt fuzzy, but whatever was happening in the other room needed to be dealt with. When she opened the door, Gina and Chloe were yelling at Fu, then there was a bright flash of light. There was no way that was a good thing.
"Who are you? Where am I?" Fu's confused voice caused her to groan, bringing everyone's attention to where she was holding herself up with the door frame.
"What the hell happened now?" Gina and Chloe exchanged a look before Gina spoke.
"Cass, would you mind escorting this gentleman home? He seems to have lost his way." That couldn't be good. Cass just grabbed his upper arm and all but dragged him out of the room. Once he was out the door, Gina gave her a worried look. "We tried to stop him, I swear."
"Tried to stop him from doing what?" Neither one seemed to know how to answer, then Tikki popped up.
"He renounced his Guardianship and transferred it to you. In doing so, he lost any and all memories connected to the Miraculous." She couldn't even summon the energy to be surprised. How did this become her life?
"Why does everyone insist on treating me like a child and then proceed dump more and more responsibility in my lap? You people need to pick one and stick to it." She was so sick of this. At least when she'd just been an Assassin, her only worry was not drawing attention. "Where's the damn box?"
"It's in the bedroom." Gina seemed to answer more on reflex than anything else. Marinette stalked back into the room to find the rest of the Kwami hovering. She felt dizzy, and had to take a few deep breaths to steady herself. Maybe the stress was affecting her blood pressure.
"Does the box actually have protections, or is it just decorative?" Tikki was frowning at her, but Nooroo landed on her shoulder to answer.
"Decorative, but we could teach you how to add protections if you wish." She traced the patterns on the box absentmindedly.
"That might be a good idea for now, but I'd like to make something that's easier to travel with that is as impervious to magic and technology as I can make it." She'd have to ask for input from the Blakes, and possibly Constantine if she could find the bastard, but she'd have to make it on her own. The last thing she needed was anyone being able to override the security.
"So you're going to start running again." Gina's disappointed voice sounded from the doorway.
"I'm not about to listen to a lecture about this from someone who can't stay in one place for more than two months." She winced at how harsh her tone was, but she didn't regret the words. She felt Gina walking towards her and tensed up, only to have the woman turn her around gently.
"I like traveling. I like seeing new places and meeting new people. I don't stay in one place because I don't want to. What do you want?" She really hated that question.
"Fate and destiny have been working against me since I was born. It's all I can do to mitigate the consequences. What I want is pointless. What I can achieve is picking the least bad option, and right now that means making sure the Miraculous stay out of hands that will abuse them."
"And you don't think you can do that in Paris?"
"Destroying Talia will cause chaos in the League, but it won't necessarily stop them from looking for me. Not to mention Batman's going to be turning over every rock he can find so he can contain or 'rehabilitate' me." Paris was the only place he knew to look for her, so leaving was the best option. Where she would go was another matter entirely.
"I wouldn't bet on that last one. Wonder Woman gave him an earful after he mentioned you being a Keeper of Balance. She threatened to send you Amazons to help you in whatever way you require. Honestly, if you must leave, you would be welcome in their home and you and the Miraculous would be well guarded." It was obvious Gina didn't like the idea, but it did make sense. The Justice League wouldn't risk going against them. "Aquaman offered Atlantis as a safe place, as well. Apparently, ignoring a Keeper of Balance is what put them on the bottom of the ocean in the first place."
It was good to have options, and both places would keep her separate from the rest of the world. She'd still be able to teleport wherever she needed to, or wanted to, since everyone seemed to be stuck on that idea. But... she had a feeling both would make it extremely hard for her to get the down time she needed. They'd either be asking her for her advice, or trying to mold her into what they thought she should be. Neither option sounded appealing. It might be worth a trial run, just in case.
"It might be best to wait on either so that Batman doesn't know where to look for me. Granted, it would be hilarious to be able to come and go as I please while he's certain I'm stuck at one or the other." Man would probably have a stroke once he found out she could just teleport wherever the hell she wanted. Cass choose that moment to return, and she looked worried. "What now?" She tried to keep the annoyance out of her voice, but it was a lost cause at this point.
"Batman tried to follow me. Lost him, but I should probably stay away." She sounded less than happy. Marinette held out an hand and the girl took it, squeezing harder than necessary. When she looked at the strings coming off her she realized that only the ones to herself and Gina were the purple indicating family. She didn't know why, but she did know the pain of feeling like you're alone in the world.
"I'll keep in touch. I promise." Cass frowned.
"Here. Always." She could feel her cousin's reluctance to leave, and almost felt a pull herself to stay near her. It wasn't a feeling she was willing to ignore. She turned back to the box and opened it, waiting for inspiration to strike. She saw a hint of a string going from Cass to the mouse miraculous. Perfect. She picked it up and held it out.
"You don't have to use it to transform, but if you need to talk to me, you can send a message through Mullo. That way, there's no way it will get lost or intercepted." Cass took the necklace almost reverently, before pulling her into a hug.
"I'll keep it safe. Promise."
"I know." Marinette pulled back reluctantly. "You should go. I don't want to get you in more trouble." She had to physically stop herself from going after her as Cass went out the window. She really wished she knew if it was just because she didn't want her to go, rather than a warning.
"I knew you two would get along." Gina sounded almost smug, and Marinette ignored it as she closed the box once again. Something was off and she couldn't pinpoint it. It was going to drive her insane.
"Where are the Blake brothers?" Gina blinked at her.
"As far as I know, they went home."
"But you don't know for certain."
"Well, no but-"
"What about Adrien, Luka, and Kagami?"
"They're at the dorm. I just talked to Adrien an hour ago." Chloe sounded worried and pulled out her phone, she assumed to make sure she was right. Then it hit her.
"Damian." the string between them was still pulsing in a way that made her uneasy, and Cass was presumably going back to where he was. This was bad. She couldn't say if she was more worried or annoyed at the fact that a connection between them was forming again, no matter what kind.
"Uh... Mari?" Chloe held up her phone so she could see it, and Marinette just started cursing. There was a video feed showing Damian hanging over the balcony on the top floor of the Grand Paris. All his family, besides Cass, that were in Paris, were tied up about ten feet away. Honestly, none of that was her current focus. She only had one question.
"What the actual fuck is the Joker doing in Paris?"

Remembrance
For Bio Dad Bruce Wayne Month Day 5: Stories/Memories
ao3
@maribat-bdbwm
Marinette and Alfred are the ones who had welcomed him to the Manor when Bruce had first taken him in. Marinette had been his first friend outside the circus. The bright three-year-old daughter of Bruce Wayne who nearly no one knew about.
He remembers her hugging him in greeting the very first time, whispering, “you need hugs.”
Dick would never forget that. Never forget the smiling child who had cheerfully announced that he was her big brother and had accepted someone new into her family immediately.
.oOo.
Barbara got to know Marinette by talking to her over comms for years. Agent A and Sunbird, a name, as she was told, that was given to her by her big brother. The younger girl used to convince Alfred into giving her a private line on the days where crime was lighter and the two of them would talk to each other until Marinette fell asleep. The older she grew the longer the time they spoke for.
She still remembers some of the stories Marinette had told her as a child. She brings it up occasionally to embarrass her like any good big sister would. She’d also make life hell for anyone who hurts Marinette like a good big sister.
.oOo.
Marinette and Jason used to spend every free afternoon they had in the kitchen. With Alfred’s supervision, of course. They took up their own corner of the large kitchen and experimented with their cooking. Sure, they were occasionally banned but unlike Bruce, who was banned for the rest of his life, it was only for a month at most.
A fact which they teased him mercilessly about. Babs joined too when Marinette told her, and once Babs knew so did Dick. Their accomplishments in the kitchen were thus immortalised, along with Bruce’s failure, but that’s less important.
.oOo.
Alfred remembers the resolute 13-year-old girl who stood in front of him after her brother’s death and asked him if he knew anyone who lived away from Gotham who’d be okay with her staying there for a while. She’d said she couldn’t stand to stay in the Manor anymore. Alfred knew there was nothing that could stop her once she’d made up her mind, she was just as, if not more, stubborn than her father. And so, Alfred had gone through is old contacts until he found Gina Dupain and made arrangements for Miss Marinette to stay with her son and wife.
He and Miss Barbara were the only ones to see her off. Master Bruce had still not got himself together and Master Dick was still off the map. The two of them had watched as she had faked a smile and walked through the gate.
.oOo.
Tim first met Ladybug when Robin suddenly showed up on the streets of Paris. Tim had immediately gone on high alert when the Parisian heroine had appeared at his hotel window. Which had morphed into understanding when she had detransformed.
Marinette had taken a picture of his expression, saying, “I’m sending this to Babs. I don’t ever want to forget how ridiculous you looked.”
Tim had no clue how he’d missed that she was Ladybug.
“Magic,” she’d explained, “and also I never really got around to telling Dad, so we never bring it up during our calls.”
After he’d finished the mess with King Snake and Lady Shiva, he’d helped Marinette tell Bruce. And then Dick had taken the two of them out for ice cream.
.oOo.
At some point after Cass started staying on her own it became normal for Marinette to be there every weekend. The two of them sparred together, went out on patrol, played rooftop tag, ate street food, took care of crime.
Cass has a scrapbook filled with photos from their patrols that Marinette had given her for her birthday, “so we never forget,” Marinette had told her when she had given it to her.
.oOo.
Marinette calls Damian up weekly to ask about his animal friends. She never pries too much and Damian appreciates it. He willingly tells her stories of what they’ve been up to throughout the week and sends her pictures and paintings. She, in exchange talks to him about the kwami. She can’t really send him pictures of them but she lets the all the kwami out to play when he visits.
Damian cherishes it, not that he’d ever say it, but he does. He doesn’t have to talk about anything he doesn’t want to and Marinette doesn’t try to get it out of him but he knows she’ll be there if he needs help, and so will everyone else.
It also helps that Alfred (the cat), Titus, Jerry, and Ace adore her but they still prefer him, of course.
.oOo.
Around the time Stephanie became Batgirl, Marinette’s visits to Gotham became a lot more frequent. Probably because her dad died, or at least that’s what nearly everyone had thought.
Steph had never really gotten to know Marinette before, she’d met the younger girl several times when she’d gone to meet Cass but she never had the chance to get to know her.
But with Marinette in Gotham often, it meant she was visiting Babs often. And since Steph was with Babs a good amount of her time, she spent a lot of time with Marinette. It was similar to what she imagines having a sister would be like.
After Bruce’s return, Marinette’s visits became less often but the two of them kept in contact.
.oOo.
Bruce had several moments in his lifetime that he would never forget. His parents’ death, the deaths of his friends and children (even though they all came back), and several other moments with his several children.
He remembered when Marinette had teleported into the cave just as everyone was getting ready for patrol, looking tired. All of them had been by her side almost immediately. Marinette rarely ever randomly showed up, even if she did one of the others were bound to know. But it hadn’t been one of those visits, he’d been sure of it.
And it hadn’t been. Marinette had told everyone to continue with whatever they were doing and then asked to speak with him.
“Gabriel Agreste is Hawkmoth,” she had stated.
He hadn’t been shocked. He’d met the man a few times, being Paris’ supervillain didn’t seem beneath him.
“And you have a plan?”
She had nodded confidently, “yes. I just need to check a few things on the Batcomputer.”
“Let us know if you need anything.”
She had nodded at him and rushed off to the computer. Bruce had been so sure everything would be fine at that moment.
.oOo.
Duke had been worried when Babs had called and said to get everybody in the cave for an emergency, even Alfred. He had never imagined exactly how bad it could be.
She had had tears in her eyes when she had said, “Hawkmoth’s been defeated.”
There had been cheers and laughs but Duke couldn’t shake off the feeling of dread.
“Why did you say it was an emergency?” Bruce asked quietly.
“Marinette gave up her guardianship so that they could win.”
The following silence had been the quietest the cave had ever been with all 10 of them there. They all knew what giving up guardianship meant.
Bruce had been the first to leave, he walks away into the Batplane without a word. None of them had stopped him. They were all frozen in shock.
Damian stormed off to the training mats, Jason joining him soon after. Alfred seems to have vanished. Steph and Dick are talking to Babs and Tim seems to be looking into the exact details of what happened. Cass walks away then and Duke not knowing what to do follows her. They walk in silence until they reach her room. Duke stands around awkwardly as she rummages through her room. She hands him a scrapbook. He recognises the signature.
““So, we never forget,” she had said.”
The irony of the situation isn’t lost on either of them. But he doesn’t say anything, just sits next to her in silence holding the scrapbook.

None the Wiser 10
Masterlist
All fic masterlist
I took a bit of a break from this one after doing so much all at once. Also had to decide what way to go. I didn't plan ahead for her to run out so now I'm winging it a bit.
Marinette had left the Eiffel Tower that night with Cassie's number. At first she thought the girl was trying to make a joke when she suggested telling her parents that she had been running around as a magical hero for 2 years. But Cassie gave a well-reasoned argument for why she should reveal herself. Much of it was the ways that it strained their relationship and caused her to need to lie all the time. But beyond that there was the added burden on being the guardian with not only no additional support but having lost heroes as they had been revealed.
Marinette didn't run home and tell her parents right away. She took a few days to mull it over. She knew that the guardian had wanted secrecy above all but she wasn't sure how prudent that was. He had only become a guardian because he made a major mistake as a child that he couldn't fix. His secrecy had only protected him but didn't solve any problems. When faced with the same problem that had never been fixed his solution was to run and hide again while leaving Paris vulnerable. It had been her and Chat Noir who had fixed his mistake even if she had eventually made a mistake that cost him the guardianship. She has solved the issue even if things were still tough.
Perhaps the additional support of her parents would be a good thing. She should probably discuss it with Chat Noir first. She had been avoiding discussing any of it with him or Damian. She sent them both messages that she did not want them to bring it up until she had time to process. Damian took it pretty well but Adrien seemed to keep trying to catch her eye to get her to talk, but then she had known Adrien longer and he also found out about her secret biological family so the situations were quite a bit different. She pulled out her phone to text him.
---
Marinette brought pastries to the park, including a double cheesy bread for Plagg and macarons for Tikki. The box lid was pushed back down over the kwamis so Marinette and Adrien could talk. He offered her fruit infused water before they wandered away from the photo shoot set that he had just left. He used a wipe to remove the makeup and ran his hands through his hair causing it to be adorably fluffy.
Marinette wasn't sure how to start. She avoided Adrien's soft eyes filled with concern and understanding. She picked the flaky bits off her croissant instead and looked up when he waved at some others across the park. She recognized the girls from school but she didn't really know them. Hopefully they wouldn't talk about seeing her in the park with Adrien. She hadn't told Alya because Lila had been nearby and she didn't want to make a big deal of it because Alya had noticed that they were acting a bit weird around each other.
"Do you know them?" Marinette asked.
"We share some classes. Just found out today that I'm partnered with the one in purple for the big history project. Hopefully that will work out okay "
"I was partnered with Nathaniel. It's nice to have someone I already know is reliable. He might be quiet for presenting but I don't know if I could handle the stress of an unreliable project partner."
"Because of all the other stress from things you couldn't or haven't shared?" he asked quietly.
"Um-yeah. Actually that is mostly what I wanted to talk about today. I'm going to tell my parents about everything."
"Isn't it all supposed to all be a secret?"
"According to Tikki, the level of secrecy has depended on the guardian handing out miraculi."
"So you think we should tell people now that you are guardian?"
"But necessarily. Mostly I think that it's important that people don't know. But we aren't adults who control our own lives and schedules. Sometimes we need extra support out allowances."
"I don't think I could tell my father. Even if he would see me, I think he would find a way to prevent me sneaking out if he knew."
"That is probably true. But my parents are the opposite. Having to lie and sneak around behind their back has been harmful to all of us. They have been a lot more worried recently anytime I'm not where they expected."
"Is this because of what Superboy said about you being Robin's sister?"
"I--"
She faltered and looked down instead of continuing. Adrien reached out and picked up her hand saying her name softly.
"Marinette, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to. But sometimes it helps to talk even if it's hard to say."
"No, I think it will help you to know. It's just all been so confusing. Do you remember the man from the hotel?"
"Yeah. From Alya's party."
"I met him that night when I went to change during the party. The next day he wanted to have breakfast with me." She bit her lip before spitting out the next words all at once. "Because he is my biological father."
"You said he made your parents nervous. Did he treat your mom badly and that is why they never told you?"
"Actually, they never knew until then."
"How--"
"My parents had help from a fertility clinic. I didn't know until I took a DNA test after we did blood typing in biology class because mine wasn't right." She looked down again. "They aren't worried that he will hurt me. They are worried that he will take me away."
"Cases like that from donors or whatever are really hard to fight though."
Except he is rich. Like really rich. Bruce Wayne rich."
The words just sat there for a moment as Adrien considered them. She could see him working it out and could tell the exact moment he knew when he looked back at her with shock in his eyes.
"Bruce Wayne is your biological father?" He breathed out hard. "The Bruce Wayne."
"That reaction is a lot of why I've not told many people. I didn't even know who he was until the fashion show. I was so worried about everything else that I never considered asking more about him. He was just Bruce."
He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and squeezed her close for a moment. Marinette leaned against him less nervous than she felt before but still with the weight of talking to her parents.
"I agree you should tell your parents. It will help them to know. It will probably just give them other things to worry about." He smiled down at her. "Lucky for them that we always save the day, My Lady."
She looked up at him with the use of his hero's affectionate nickname for her. He was definitely looking at her how Chat Noir tended to look at Ladybug. She tensed a bit, not sure how to manage his possible feelings now that he knew she was Ladybug and not just Marinette. But he said nothing more. He leaned over and kissed her head gently and told her goodbye with a final squeeze to her shoulders.
---
Her parents just stared at her after she blurted out her secret identity without preamble. They were stunned into silence and waited for her to crack a smile before they reacted. They looked at each other and then both started talking about their feelings about her revelation. If they didn't calm down Marinette predicted she would have a headache soon. She decided it was best to wait it out rather than try defending herself.
As she expected it was mostly disbelief and shock at the dangers she had faced but there was an underlying message of pride. They kept on for a few minutes while Marinette waited for them to get it out of their system. She could tell it was ending when they both held her close and they ceased the onslaught of incredulous concern. They all went quiet for a minute until Marinette asked their thoughts once they had been able to process for a few minutes.
"Did you guys have any questions?"
"Why did you tell us? Actually why didn't you tell us before?" her dad asked.
"Well things have changed recently and it makes it all so much different."
"Your leader. He was trapped by Hawkmoth and named you guardian. What does that mean?" her mom asked.
"It means I'm but responsible for all of the miraculi in Paris. The previous guardian had moved on and had no memory of any of the miraculous or having met me."
"I don't know whether to be more upset that you kept it secret all this time or that we didn't notice." Sabine said.
"I wanted to tell you. I really hate lying."
"We know you do Sweetheart. That's part of what makes this hard to see. We didn't expect it from you," her dad said.
"I always worried that you would find out I'm missing and think something bad had happened. Especially after Bruce showed up. You were so worried at first."
"We are still worried a little. But so far he seems to just want an opportunity to love you." Sabine said. "We can't fault him for that."
Marinette agreed. Although it was a very strange situation, he genuinely seemed to want to be a part of her life without making himself a nuisance. She even thought he might he holding back a desire to buy her everything she ever wanted. He had left town again and she could only hope Damian would keep his silence, but he would be returning as soon as his schedule allowed.
They continued talking about all the ways these two major revelations had affected their lives while they made dinner and ate. It was all a huge weight off Marinette and she was happy it had been suggested. She really did believe that it was the best thing for her and the best way to protect her parents, even if it meant they would have to watch their reactions. Her dad might have been thinking about that because as she was heading up to her room he stopped her one last time.
"Does this mean you are in love with Chat Noir but he rejected you without knowing you were Ladybug?"

"Ladybug will help her, I'm sure," said the horse superheroine, sounding unconvinced. She and Carapace came out of the lift, looking dumbstruck.
"What's this place?" asked Carapace as he walked out on the small platform with the towering symbol of the butterfly. Too late, he noticed that the object standing underneath it was a coffin. His surprise rose when he recognised the woman sleeping inside. "Jeez, babe, you’ll want to see this." He signaled to his partner to approach.
"Wh-whaaaaa—" Alya was so shocked that she dropped the body of Gabriel Agreste on the floor. The man could only groan as the girl grabbed him by the collar and looked him straight in the eyes. "What's this?" she said. "And why aren’t you moving or talking?"
"He's been stung by the Bee Miraculous, uh, Peg...alya?" said Ladybug suddenly, startling them. Alya gave her best friend a surprised look.
"Pégase Marron, at your service," she said eventually, then pursed her lips at Gabriel. "He's paralysed, I see." Then, she looked at Chat Noir and tilted her head towards the coffin. "That's your mother. I'm so sorry…"
Chat Noir looked down. "Yes, she's the reason why Father wanted our Miraculous. To bring her back."
He explained to Pégase Marron how Nathalie had helped Gabriel but then felt he'd crossed a line when he threatened to akumatise his own son. As he explained, Ladybug approached Carapace and Nathalie, and had him lay her down near Emilie's coffin. She shot a glance at Gabriel's body and realised the man was tied up, so she took the brooch and the hairpin from Nathalie, releasing her transformation. When Pollen's magic released its hold on Gabriel's body, the man attempted to move, but Chat Noir put his baton at his father's throat.
"I want to check on Nathalie," said Gabriel. "I never wanted things to go this way. I didn't want Nathalie to end up like Emilie."
With difficulty, due to his tied hands, he sat up and moved his knees close to his chest, burying his face behind them. When Chat Noir saw that Gabriel didn't move for a while, he finally lowered his weapon and put it away. He moved closer to Nathalie and Ladybug, keeping his father in his sights.
"Poor Mlle. Nathalie, she overdid it this time!" shouted Duusu, his eyes full of tears.
Chat Noir touched Nathalie's forehead and winced at how cold it felt. "Is there anything we can do?"
"I still haven't called for my lucky charm," said Ladybug. When she saw the staff that fell into her hands though, her heart stopped.
"Is that Su-Han's staff?" asked Chat Noir.
Ladybug lowered her head and paled considerably. "I lost the Butterfly Miraculous," she started, "and the Fox has been taken away too."
"No no no no… You haven't failed!" shouted Chat Noir. "It was out of your control. You were trapped!"
"I could've done something. I could've realised the message didn't come from you. I could've noticed how strange it was that Prince Ali's engagement was going to happen in a diner boat that looked empty. It's all my fault!" She cupped her hands at the side of her head, her eyes widening in shock. "Oh my God! I'm going to lose Guardianship!"
"NO! I won't let it happen!" Chat Noir grabbed her hands and looked at her in panic. "You haven't done anything wrong. I won't let that man take away your memories!"
Ladybug started sobbing and Chat Noir hugged her tight. He patted her head, slowly and softly, trying to give her some strength and comfort. "I won’t let him take your memories of us. You won’t forget, M'lady. Shhhhhh."
"But he's in his right to do it, Adrien! I messed up so badly this time, it's all my fault and now Nooroo is lost again and Trixx too!"
"Trixx was my fault," said Pégase Marron, her voice cracking with the tears she was trying to hold. "I'm so sorry, if someone needs to be held accountable for losing Trixx, it's me. I nearly lost Pollen too. Thank God Nathalie broke in the room and caught Chloé by surprise."
"And he can't hold you accountable for losing the butterfly, Dudette. You weren't even there!" added Carapace.
"But if I’d realised that Lila was setting up a trap, none of this would've happened!" shouted Ladybug, her voice booming in the silence of the room. "I'm the Guardian! I messed up!"
"No, I won't let you! I won't let you give up your memories for this, it's not fair!" Chat Noir hugged her tight and started sobbing desperately into her hair. "You won't forget about all this, you won't forget about me!"
"That's ENOUGH, Adrien!" boomed Gabriel's voice from where they had left him. "Ladybug is showing more maturity than all of you. She's the Guardian and she holds responsibility for the whole team. When one of my Directors makes a mistake, I also take full responsibility for their actions. She chose the girl with the glasses to be the Fox Miraculous holder. So it's her responsibility for the girl's failure. Now stay quiet and let the people who know more than you make the decisions."
Chat Noir glared at his father, and so did Carapace and Pégase Marron, but none of the three superheroes had it in themselves to argue against his words. In a way, they knew he was right.
"I'm also responsible, of course." Hearing his father saying that caused Chat Noir to widen his eyes in shock. "I'm not asking you to forgive me, but I hope that your Miraculous Cure can save Nathalie." A significant silence wrapped around the group as Gabriel paused. "She didn't deserve any of this."
Ladybug dried her eyes with the back of her gloved hand. "I'll call Su-Han."
------------------------
Author's Note
Okay… I must say that this is NOT what I had planned. Ladybug took over and Gabriel was way too happy to let her. AND to breathe air on her fire (I must admit that he DOES have a point but… my poor Marinette!) So now… I hadn't planned Su-Han at all and, well, now he will be summoned.
Let me know what you thought of my total defeat against my characters coming to life and deciding what they want to happen in the story. Please drop me a comment, you know it. They're what keep me going!
Until tomorrow, bug out!

Take Two: The Guardian in Gotham Chapter 5
First   Previous   Next   Ao3
They raced over the rooftops towards the center of the city, where they could see a tiny figure blasting waves of fire in all directions. As they neared the Akuma, they noticed that they looked female, and they were surprisingly color-coordinated. She had coal black skin, with glowing red runes inked over her flesh. Her eyes were like embers, and her hair shifted and changed like a living flame. Everywhere she glanced would immediately catch fire, and she shot some sort of substance from her clawed hands that made the poor victim stop running in terror and instead smile dazedly at the flames.
Chat, Queen Bee, and Viperion set about rescuing the civilians as Ladybug and Ryuko engaged the Akuma. They dodged her blasts, dancing around her as they looked for her Akumatized object. She screamed defiantly, shouting her fury towards the sky. “I am Inferno! They mocked my love, now they will feel it too! Let them be purified in my flame!” The two heroes exchanged a confused glance at her wording.
What would fire have to do with love? Marinette thought as she backflipped nearly out of the way. Thinking back to Inferno’s powers, she felt the puzzle pieces begin to slide into place as she observed the Akuma.
As the five of them watched, Inferno turned her gaze on a civilian, and he started to catch fire. Before he could panic, she hit him with the substance, and he started to grin, even as he burned alive before their eyes.
Marinette felt vomit rose in her throat as she looked at his blackened corpse, still smiling even in death. She saw her horrified and sickened expression echoed on the faces of her teammates. She forced herself to look away before she lost her dinner on the rooftop.
As the Akuma made her way towards a school, cutting a swath of destruction in her wake, she called for a regroup and a hurried discussion.
One lucky charm and three Second Chances later, they had managed to lead the Akuma into an abandoned building. Immediately, there were three simultaneous calls of “Cataclysm!” “Venom!” and “Wind Dragon!”. As Inferno froze from the paralysis, Chat destroyed the floor, and she fell through with her arms trapped by her side. Ryuko shifted into a gust of wind and stirred up dirt, making it impossible for Inferno to look at any of them.
As the Akuma thrashed in her restraints, Marinette leaned forward and grabbed the akumatized object (a silver lighter) before breaking it and purifying the Akuma. She cast her Cure and watched with bittersweet relief as it washed through the broken city.
She was glad she could fix everything, but it never should have never broken in the first place. As the last buildings were repaired, and the few stragglers were returning to their evening activities, she turned to her team. “I’ll call you in the evening over there. Or I guess in the afternoon tomorrow, considering the time difference.“ She frowned, trying to calculate the hours. “We’ll report then.” Her team nodded as she stepped through the portal into Gotham.
---
Stepping into her room, she checked the time and saw that it was already 7:15. Panicking, she ran over to her wheelchair and sat down before detransforming. Realizing she was still in her pajamas, she wheeled over to the closet and pulled on a sweater. She quickly swapped out her pajama pants for loose sweatpants, seeing as she didn't have time to wrangle leggings over her cast. Rushing to the bathroom, she awkwardly brushed her teeth before making her way to the kitchen.
---
When she wheeled into the kitchen for breakfast, Alfred looked at her intently before asking “How are your injuries, Miss Marinette?” She paused before answering, and cast a glance towards Tim, who was distracted trying to make coffee. Confirming his attention was elsewhere, she quietly answered “My current injuries are doing well, Monsieur Alfred, but the phantom pains I could do without.” He paused in his cooking and turned towards her worriedly. “Phantom pain?” Instead of answering, she navigated to the Ladyblog on her phone before tilting the screen towards him. Tim stumbled out of the room, coffee in hand muttering something about “Three hours’ and “pumpkin grenades”. Ignoring his strange comments, she turned back to Alfred and handed him her phone.
He scrolled through the website as she began eating. As she ate, his face paled at the videos of all their battles. Sensing his unasked question she quickly spoke up. “My cure restores everything. Nobody but me and the rest of the Holders remember the fights, so you don’t have to worry.” He looked shocked at her sentence. “Miss Marinette! That is all well and good, but do you not have anyone to guide you at all? What about the Master that entrusted the jewels to you?” She looked down sadly at her plate. “He lost all his memories when he gave up the Guardianship to me. Hawkmoth had figured him out, and we were in the middle of a battle.” She paused, pushing food around her plate before she continued speaking. “There wasn’t any time for him to do anything. Transferring Guardianship was the only viable option at the moment.” There was a long beat of silence before Alfred responded. “You are video calling your friends tonight are you not?” Confused at his change of subject, she looked up at him curiously. “I am. Why?” A determined look crossed his face. “I am going to help you all unmask this villain. Even if it means getting other heroes involved.” At his statement, she was shocked into silence. “...You would help us?” She questioned hesitantly. At his firm nod, she nearly burst into tears, and grabbed him in a fierce hug. “Thank you, Alfred” She choked out. “Thank you so much.” He said nothing, only hugged her tighter.
---
After their emotional conversation, Marinette headed upstairs to continue working on Jagged’s latest commission. A full suit and an evening gown for him and Penny to wear at the Wayne Gala. Six hours flew by in her designing haze, and when she finally looked up, it was already two hours past noon. Ignoring her stomach, she continued directing the Kwami as they pinned together the rough beginnings of the suit under her careful watch.
At around three, Alfred brought her a sandwich before gently admonishing her for her lack of self-care. She smiled sheepishly at him before continuing to pin the hem of the pants. He sighed tiredly before leaving her fabric-filled room.
Soon enough, it was dinner, and Marinette headed downstairs to eat. She met one of Dick’s friends, a really sweet woman named Barbara, who was also in a wheelchair. She spent the whole meal giving Mari different tips on how to use the wheelchair. They included things from keeping your stuff from getting tangled in the wheels, to instructions on how to make sharp turns. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a teen a couple years younger than her storm into the dining room with a scowl on his face. He ignored her completely, sitting down with a huff.
She locked eyes with Barbara, who shrugged at her like ‘what can you do?’ before continuing to eat.
---
After dinner was over, she wheeled into her room after telling Alfred that she would be talking with her friends soon. At nine PM, he walked into her room just as her phone buzzed with a Video Call request. Accepting, she leaned back against the headboard and he stood by her bed as they waited for her team to report.
Luka spoke first. “The Akuma’s name was Inferno. She is a pyromaniac who’s friends had mocked her and told her to ‘get help’ upon discovering her obsession. However, she does not burn down buildings, and only lights small candles to burn old notes.” “So they were being unnecessarily cruel, and judging without all the facts?” Kagami asked. He nodded once and then waited. “Moving on,” Marinette spoke. “Chloé, continue please.” “Alright Nettie-Bug. So her powers were the ability to set anything on fire with her gaze, and she could make the civilians love the fire even as they burned in it. Which is a nod to her pyromania.” She said. “She had no other powers, but those two were a deadly combination.”
“As for casualties,” Adrien continued, “the Eiffel Tower was melted and several buildings all over the city had burned to the ground. Not to mention all the plant and animal life as well. And out of 2,161,000 Parisians, 670,000 were burned alive and brought back by your Cure.” Marinette dropped her head into her palms and groaned out loud. “This was definitely one of the more powerful Akumas. I think that might have been one of the top three in terms of the death toll.” She remarked grimly. “Kagami?” “Chat had burns on his back and shoulders from holding up a beam so some civilians could get away. Queen Bee and Viperion had burns on their forearms and palms from lifting debris, and you were burned on your arms and back. Since I was able to shift into the elements, I only had minor burns on my hands.” The fencer spoke. Adrien let out a low whistle. “So this was not the worst we’ve had, but this definitely shouldn’t be categorized as one of the less damaging fights.” Marinette summed up. “Yeah, basically.” Chloé nodded.
Alfred, who had remained silent the whole conversation, chose to speak up. “I assume you are all members of Miss Marinette’s team?” He asked. “Holy fuck!” Adrien screamed, just as Luka and Chloé both yelled curses of their own. Kagami didn’t say anything, but her hand had moved and was now resting defensively on her fencing sabre. “Oh!” Marinette laughed “I forgot to introduce you to Monsieur Alfred! He’s a true Peacock, and he said he’ll help us defeat Hawkmoth and Mayura.” At her statement, her friends immediately tensed, but they smiled at the elderly man on screen. They talked for a few minutes, but before he went downstairs he promised that he would talk to the Justice League. When they had asked him how he was going to do that, he had simply smiled and said “I have my ways,” and then left. After he had gone, Kagami spoke up, voicing everyone’s concern. “Mari, are you sure you can trust him?” Marinette immediately nodded. “Our auras recognised each other, and there’s no way of faking that without it leaving a mark on your soul. His soul was not corrupted, so he’s definitely a true holder.” At her explanation, everyone relaxed and their strained smiles softened into genuine grins. With the harder part of the evening done with, the five of them talked and laughed together for hours.
---
The rest of the week passed by in a similar manner, except for when she finally had an actual conversation with Damian. Looking back, it was not the best way to meet someone, but hey. He had started it!
The afternoon after Inferno, Bruce had spoken with her parents about the intricacies of her stay before informing her that she would be in Gotham until May, but would be going back to Paris for Christmas and New Year’s. As soon as he had announced the duration of her stay, Damian had scowled (again!) and walked out of the room. Marinette had no idea why he disliked her so much. He hadn’t even looked at her at all! Making up her mind to speak with him, she wheeled herself into the living room where he was sketching.
At the sound of her wheels rolling against the floor he immediately spoke up. “Gordon, there you are. I noticed you have talked with Dupain-Cheng. I don’t understand why she allowed herself to get hurt by a few kids her age. Tt. Pathetic.” At his statement she felt a flash of defensiveness and anger flare up in her chest. “Well maybe I got hurt because it was ten of them against one. Maybe I got hurt because they came up from behind and hit me over the head with a metal beam. Maybe I got hurt because they had knives and all I had was a cloth bag. I don’t know Damian,” she spits his name like poison. “You tell me why.” As soon as she had begun speaking he had stiffened, and after she finished he slowly lifted his head to look at her for the first time. He made no outward reaction towards her injuries and bruises, which were a sickly blue-green, but she saw the flash or shock in his eyes. Wheeling past him, she called over her shoulder “Don’t make assumptions about things you don’t know, kid.” He bristled at her wording, before tilting his nose up and haughtily responding. “I am only two years younger than you, Dupain-Cheng. I am by no means a child.” Refusing to respond, she simply made her way upstairs, steadfastly ignoring the pangs of hurt in her chest and the stinging of tears in her eyes from his earlier comment.
---
After that wonderful interaction, Marinette did her best to stay out of Damian’s way. Before she knew it, Sunday rolled around, and her wrist brace had finally come off. She had never been more grateful towards accelerated Ladybug healing. She went to bed, and soon enough she was waking up the following Monday to go to school.

Is it just me or is everyone making a big deal about Marinette becoming guardian. Yeah she has to take care of all the miraculous now and yea she needs to fight hawkie with jewels she knows nothing about, but isn't ladybugs whole thing trying to find out what to do with her charm? Is the miraculouses and lucky charm that tragically different? Idk man plz help me out here T_T
I think what you have to realize is that now that Master Fu is gone, the ONLY thing that stands between Hawkmoth and absolute power is one teenage girl (and her teenage partner). Marinette is so smart and so capable and so powerful in her own way, but she is still 14 years old.
Look, the teenage years are rough all on their own. You’ve got school and homework and acne and weird hormones and overbearing parents and friend problems and unrequited crushes and a million decisions to make that will shape the rest of your life. And add being a superhero into the mix? Having to sneak out to fight an akuma two or three times a week, all while keeping this huge secret from everyone you love? And, despite saving the city yet again, you still have a physics test on Tuesday? YIKES.
And this is just how Marinette’s life is before she’s made the guardian. After? She has the additional pressure of being in charge of the most dangerous and important items in existence. Unlike Fu, she has a bustling civilian life, and she’s an active superhero. Fu was out of action for years, so he could sit around chilling with the miracle box all day. Marinette doesn’t have that luxury. She now has one more HUGE thing to balance in her already-crazy life.
Also, did I mention the fact that she’s 14? The stress of being Ladybug and guardian in training already drove her to breaking point, as we saw in the season 3 finale. She broke down crying three separate times in those episodes—once when she had to give up Adrien (which is obviously heartbreaking for her), once to Luka, and once to Chat when they were underwater. This is what she said to Luka: “Actually, no, I’m not fine at all. I’m so tired, Luka, of all these responsibilities, of having to put up a front all the time, of never being able to be who I truly am.” The poor girl felt so alone because of the lack of support! And then her mentor, the one person she always turned to when she didn’t know what to do, just disappeared from her life. And he didn’t even tell her about the memory loss side effect, so she was totally unprepared. And it had been, what, a few months that she was in training to become the Guardian? Not nearly long enough for her to learn everything she needs to learn or for her to feel properly prepared to take on such a responsibility.
Yes, Marinette is very smart, and she’ll figure out how to use the other miraculous just like she does with her lucky charm, like you said. But if Hawkmoth finds out her identity and comes for her personally, she’s at a severe disadvantage because he’s an adult who is far stronger both physically and magically. In Miracle Queen when Hawkmoth found Fu, Fu just used his power to wait for Ladybug and Chat to come as backup. Since he’s an adult, his powers weren’t time sensitive. But Marinette is just a kid—her powers time out. And she’ll probably live in constant fear that Hawkmoth will find the miracle box like he did before.
Plus, the guardianship goes so far beyond what she’s doing in battle. It’s just a big mantle for her to wear at such a young age. And she just lost her biggest pillar. She has no one to turn to for advice about guardian stuff, apart from the kwamis. I’m guessing she’s going to lean on Chat a lot more as her partner to ease some of the burden cause it’s just too big of a job to do on her own.
Sorry to like Go Off about this lol but yeah, this is a pretty big deal. Normally I stay pretty salt free on this blog but Fu is one topic that I can get pretty salty on cause I feel like A) his rules were unfair and dumb, B) he put too much pressure on literal children, especially Marinette, C) he never gave Adrien the time of day, and D) he just noped out of there and left this huge mess for Marinette to deal with on her own. (I mean, I guess he didn’t really have a choice? But COME ON.)
One thing’s for sure: Marinette Dupain-Cheng will be 10X the guardian Fu ever was. But I just feel bad for her. She’s a kid, and she’ll probably never get to act like one again. Being a superhero used to seem like it was fun and exciting for her a lot of the time, but all the pressure of the job PLUS the extra pressure of being the guardian seems to be taking that away more and more :(

Is it true marinette will lose her memories?
nothing is confirmed, but the fact that Master Fu lost his when he gave the guardianship over to Marinette means that somewhere down the line, whether its shown in the cartoon or if its later in life as an old woman, Marinette would have to give up being a guardian and give that role to someone else.
meaning she’d lose all her memories regarding the Miraculous, meaning her time as Ladybug and time spent with Chat Noir.
given how Fu didnt recognize Marianne bc of his memory loss (since they met for reason regarding Miraculous), its possible that if Marinette loses her memories, she may not recognize Adrien, or at least not Chat Noir (bc as the two get to know each other and pursue a relationship, those two identities will blend as one, for better AND for worse in this particular case).
so the potential of her losing her memories is there, now that she’s officially a guardian. its not set in stone whether The Guy is willing to go that far in the story tho. if he did, im sure he’d set up some loophole thatd allow her to keep her memories.
some hope the loophole is the fact that Fu gave guardianship to “Ladybug” and not Marinette, meaning it only depends on whoever wields the ladybug miraculous gets to be the next guardian. if Marinette grows old and begins training someone else to be a guardian, she could just train someone to use the ladybug earrings and pass down the role that way without the need of losing her memories.
the loophole i think makes more sense and might be the angle That Guy would go with would be the fact that theres been so many instances and so many episodes that feature Marinette and her diary. theres even a mini webseries where shes reading her diary entries to show more of her perspective of situations and relationships within the show’s canon. she’s written EVERYTHING in it, and went through the trouble of contructing a box that eats your hand if you try to grab the book. if she ever gives up guardianship and loses her memories, i have a hunch that her diary will come into play to somehow have her regain them, or at the very least feel as tho they were a distant dream that feel familiar.
tl;dr: the potential of her losing memories is there. lots of fans speculate what this could mean for Marinette’s future as a guardian, leading to plenty of fanfic and fanart inspiration. however, nothing is confirmed.

O.M.G! You guys don’t know how much I missed writing these reviews! It’s been so long! I was sooooooo bored and with nothing to do with my hands and gush about this fandom! But now that “Miraculous Ladybug” is back with its 4th Season I can finally type away to my hearts content! (dreamy sigh). Anyways, let me just do a quick recap on what happened last season:Lila Rossi has returned and is a recurring character (plot wise), we were introduced to some new characters (ex.Marianne), there were sentimonsters, old villains came back stronger than ever, there’s gonna be a new Hawk Moth in the future, we found about Master Fus backstory on the Chinese Miracle Box, Adrien/Cat Noir got akumatized (in an alternate timeline), Marinette almost got akumatized, we finally got Felix! (in a disappointing light) and we sadly lost Team Miraculous as their identities were all exposed (except Bunnyx) and Master Fu gave up his guardianship of the Miracle Box to Ladybug as well as his entire memory related to it leaving France. So what’s the aftermath of all this? We’ll see:
*Truth-We open with Gabriel having repaired the peacock miraculous (from the stinger of the previous season shown) so it’s no longer damaged and causes side effects like it did to Nathalie after she stole the deciphered codes from Master Fu and it’s Kwami, Duusu, is well again. Except now they’re being fused with Nooroo making Hawk Moth Shadow Moth from now on! Don! Don! Don!
With Marinette, Lukanette is in fact canon and unfortunately, she’s struggling with maintaining the relationship as she constantly has to make weird excuses to leave in the middle of their dates when she sees an akuma attack and fight it as Ladybug with Cat Noir. Common superhero cliche problem w/ the whole “It’s Not You, It’s My Enemies” scenario that always destroys the heroes social life. (shrugs) Eh. Being the understanding boyfriend that he is, Luka takes it all in stride, but when he tries to console Marinette about the truth of where she “mysteriously disappears” to, she regretfully tells him she can’t tell him which breaks his heart and he gets akumatized (a second time)/amokized (you know what, I’m just gonna blend the two words as “akumokized” since Shadow Moth is using both!) as the truth exposing villain, Truth, and his sentimonster sidekick, a giant floating eyeball that paralyzes its victims in place, Light Eye!
I’m debatable on which akumatized form I like of Luka; His first time, Silencer, was pretty cool stealing peoples voices and leaving them as mutes and using their voices in the “Blah Blah Blah” hand gesture and tricking others that he’s the voice he’s using, his second time, Truth, was voice related too as it made his victims tell the truth, but this time he wasn’t alone as he had a sidekick helping him out by freezing them in place (I actually like his second look better too). I guess for his first akumatized form, I only prefer his powers cuz there were no limitations to it over his second akumatized forms powers. It took some time for the heroes to figure out how to use his voice stealing powers to defeat him when Ladybug tricked him into saying her superpower, “Lucky Charm” in her voice, but as Truth, the heroes quickly figured out how not to exploit the truth by pulling people out from their paralyzed spots and interrupting the question and asking a new one. I felt bad for poor Truth when every time he tried to make others confess what Marinettes secret was they all said the same thing, “She’s in love with Adrien Agreste”. Ouch! 💔 His fragile little heart must’ve broke every time he heard that😬 (Hell! Even her own father said that!). I know he said he’d understand if that’s the reason Marinette wasn’t so invested in the relationship, but the fact that time has passed and that she’s still not over him (Adrien) makes him (Luka) feel like he’s not enough! Marinette doesn’t deserve him! Besides, it’s not a “secret” if practically everyone knows about Adrienette. He was actually referring to why she keeps disappearing all the time. Jagged Stone is Lukas dad! (Truth found out when he made his mother confess it after years of never knowing his father and her never speaking of it) Pfft! Big whoop! We already figured that out as much as who Hawk Moth was! This is a programming for 6-11yrs, it’s not rocket science! Of course he didn’t stick around to raise Luka (and Juleka) cuz of his rockstar life style, but now that the secrets out and they reconciled, what does that mean for the future between them?
I gotta be honest w/ you guys, I was spoiled by this ep (believe me, I tried really hard to avoid the ml tags and any posts that popped up by blurring my eyes and swiftly strolling through them), but Tumblr just doesn’t do a good job on hiding it and I can only do so much w/ my smartphone to turn off spoilers, so yeah, I knew what would happen when I watched this. I don’t like Shadow Moths new look. That’s it! I just don’t like it! If I wanted him to change his whole look, my vote would’ve been his concept art looking form https://ifunny.co/picture/hawk-moth-concept-art-a-different-design-8LlWmXYv4 and not this poor mans “Phantom of the Opera” look. Especially with the eye look being on “the wrong side” (I got the joke!😉), but how the Hell is he gonna do combat w/ both a cane and a fan!? What about Nathalie? They said Mayura will b more powerful cuz the peacock miraculous is fixed, so how’s she gonna feel when Gabe/Shadow Moth tells her that he doesn’t need her anymore!? I’d understand if he doesn’t wanna risk her health again, but if it’s to gain more power for selfish greed, then forget it. Well, Lukanette is sunk down. I don’t like that either. WTF!? I honestly thought they would last for the whole season, but Noooooooo, they had to pull the rug from under us and make us fall hard on our a**! You know that montage we saw of all the times Marinette had to ditch her dates to fight crime, yeah, THEY COULD’VE EXPANDED THOSE THROUGHOUT THE SEASON AS EPISODES TO BUILD UP FOR THE BREAK-UP! I would’ve liked to see how Marinette struggled w/ moving on from Adrien and (temporarily) staying w/ Luka! (sarcastically waving) Bye Lukanette! Say “Hello” to the Titanic for me! Talk about your “Bomb” in every ep like “Cat Blanc” they warned us about. Guess this was our bomb! What a rip off! Does Astruc not know how to write this stuff and only sticks to what he knows!? F**k that TVTropes “Status Quo Is God” bulls**t! :P🖕. No boyfriends for Marinette I guess. If she can’t manage one as Lukanette, what makes her think it would work out as Adrienette!? (course it would work if they knew one another’s identities, but still), she’s got full plate of responsibilities and she can’t chow all that down herself or there’ll be a mess! I heard that Globosat will be co-produced and participate in artistic development for the first time on the show (even if they did so in the Season 3 for co-production), but also SAMG will no longer animate for the show, but for 5-6 eps of Season 4 (they did New York and Shanghai too) and I honestly can’t tell. I mean, the 3-D animation looks the same to me (for 2-D animation, I can tell like with “American Dragon:Jake Long”), but I’m sure the animators of Tumblr will beg to differ so that’s new for the show. The only change I noticed was that the theme song sounds “deeper” now. Finally, I heard about the tragic news of the VA for Marinettes mother passing and that’s why I took a longer break for the show. I wasn’t really familiar w/ her on her acting/voice acting in various shows/movies except for ML and I hope they’ll find another VA that does just as well for the character. R.I.P. Sabine Chengs OG VA, Debra Philece Sampler.🌹

Hot take to the whole "Marinette will loose her memory because she's now the guardian" thing: No she won't.
All guardians having to loose their memories is not what the episode(s) show us at all. It was said in "Miracle Queen" that the memory loss is a tactic to protect the miraculous holders/secrets if the situation is so lost its the only choice. That's when the Guardians give up their claim to the Miracle box and give the ownership to someone else. But this won't happen every single time, that makes no sense.
Why should Marinette have to give up her guardianship when she picks a new guardian for her box when it happens under normal circumstances? When she's just too old and retires?
Pretty sure this monk from "Feast" who was the one giving Fu the Grimoire, making him the new Master over it and the box, didn't loose his memory in his last moments either because what sense does that make?
Tumblr media
Sure, he didn't gave Fu the miracle box under normal circumstances but he also sure as hell didn't went "I guardian (name) give up my claim and make Wang Fu the new guardian!" prior to this. Because why the hell should he? This was no danger situation that required a memory loss. He was about to get eaten and die and not get caught and forced to spill secrets like Fu in "Miracle Queen". So the Monk just, handed it to him. Like it's normally done. They are a whole hidden guardian society on a fuck high mountain in Tibet, passing down a miracle box is not a set in stone memory loss thing. That makes no sense. There probably wasn't even a "passing down tradition" since they all lived and guarded them together in the Miraculous temple. So most, MOST, very damn likely they were all able to use every box because they were trained to know all the Kwamis and how they function. I can't imagine there was a big separation going on here.
Sure, young ones needed to be trained first and therefore weren't allowed to "own" them yet alongside the others but once you are guardian? You're a guardian. And you will be one in this society until you die (old age, accident, whatever) even if you dont practically use and hold the miraculous anymore. Old and wise teachers are a thing too. It's actually really damn important having them around as we see now with Marinette.
So no, Marinette won't loose her memories unless she has to actively pull that sacrifice because the danger situation calls for it. She will one day show the next person how every works and how to open the miracle box, hand it to them when they are ready and life the rest of her retirement as an old woman in peace with Adrien and her children and grandchildren and everyone else she loves. Jesus christ people lighten up

Love Remains - Ch 1: Prologue

Chapter 1: Prologue
Eight Days Since Chat Noir’s World Ended
Chat Noir sat on the edge of the Trocadero. It had been a week since his world had figuratively ended. But if there was one thing Adrien had mastered long ago it was pretending that everything was fine.
Because Adrien had no reason to be upset. No, it was Chat Noir’s world that had fallen to pieces. And Chat Noir had nothing to do with Adrien.
Obviously.
Which meant he had just survived a week of following Nathalie’s schedule, going to school, photo shoots and extracurriculars, while forcing himself to smile through all of it. Attending class was especially painful because he was all too aware of the empty seat behind him.
Marinette had been out all week, and Chat Noir knew what was wrong, but no announcement had been made, so Adrien had to pretend like he didn’t know anything.
Alya had been crying a lot, and again, Chat Noir knew why. But Alya didn’t know Adrien and Chat Noir were the same person. So Adrien could be a concerned friend, but he couldn’t break down in tears next to her as much as he wanted to. And she had remained tight lipped with him as Adrien, which made sense. She couldn’t explain what had happened to Adrien.
But she had been completely transparent with Chat Noir, and that’s why he was sitting here waiting for Rena Furtive.
But in moments where there was no one next to him to serve as a shield against his feelings, when there was no reason to perform or pretend everything in his world was perfectly-fine-thanks-for-asking, he lost the battle against his grief.
His cries came silently and softly at first. Hot tears welling at the corners of his eyes. Then they came harder and faster in crashing waves, each stronger than the one before until it knocked him over and he couldn’t breathe through the convulsing violent sobs that took over his body.
Except he couldn’t be crying right now. He had to get a grip because Rena Furtive wasn’t coming alone today.
Ladybug was supposed to come with her.
It would be the first time he saw her since he had failed her.
So he needed to get his grief under control.  She  had lost everything, not him. She was the one who had lost her memory of her entire civilian life, the part of her life that had always been more important to her, she was the one who had made the sacrifice to protect each of the kwamis and all of Paris.
She shouldn’t have to manage his upset on top of all that.
Rena Furtive landed beside him in a small crouch, noticeably without a companion. He leapt to his feet immediately.
“Where is she? Is she okay?” he demanded, wiping errant tears from his eyes.
“You know that she is,” she snapped.
He shook his head, vehemently disagreeing. He knew that she was  alive. He didn’t know that she was  okay. He hadn’t seen Ladybug or Marinette in eight days. Eight long excruciating days. He didn’t know how she was handling any of this.
What would it be like to wake up one day and know nothing about your own life?
He couldn’t imagine it. He had tried.
And it wasn’t fair. She had never asked for this, had never wanted to become the Guardian in the first place.
“She’s going to be here in a few minutes, but I wanted to talk to you first.”
He sobered immediately.
“She’s nervous about this whole thing,” Rena said. “She’s not convinced she can be a superhero at all, let alone, Ladybug.”
He laughed. Like genuinely laughed for the first time since Shadowmoth had cornered Ladybug into giving up the Guardianship.
Rena scowled at him. “This isn’t funny,” she scolded.
“She… she didn’t believe she could be Ladybug the first time either,” he said, staring off at nothing in the distance. “But she still told off Hawkmoth the same day.”
Rena’s ire melted into a smile. “That was pretty badass.”
A quiet settled between them.
But it didn’t last because Chat had a question that had been nagging at him all week. “Was it right for you to tell her she was Ladybug?”
“That box shouldn’t be allowed to steal her memories,” Rena growled. “And if I can’t figure out a way to magically restore them, I’m going to give her the next best thing.”
Tension he didn’t know he had been feeling released.
“Plus, do you really want me to choose another Ladybug?” Rena asked.
No. He didn’t want that. Not at all.
Before he could say as much, Ladybug landed behind them both.
He flipped around, his eyes searching her from head to toe. Her suit had changed. Her boots and gloves were completely black. Her spots were smaller and more plentiful, scattered across her suit like a constellation of stars. But her hair was still tied back in neat low twin pigtails, and her blinking blue eyes were so familiar it was painful.
She was his partner. His very best friend even if she didn’t remember that.
His lady.
He choked back a sob. She didn’t need to see him cry.
“Um, hi?” Her nervous smile reminded him more of Marinette than Ladybug, but he found himself smiling back at her in spite of everything.
“I’m L-ladybug,” she stammered. Red flooded her cheeks and his smile widened. “But I guess y-you already know that.”
“Hello Ladybug,” he said, holding out his hand for hers, which she granted him immediately. He kissed her knuckle as he always did, but instead of pushing him away, she blushed. “I’m Chat Noir. It’s an honor to meet you all over again.”
“I’m sorry that I forgot everything,” she told him, her gaze dropping to her feet.
His smile evaporated. “No,  I’m sorry,” he said. She looked up at him. “I should have been faster. I should have been there. If I had—“ a hard lump took up residence in his throat and he couldn’t continue. It was his fault she had been backed into a corner.
He had to blink back another onslaught of tears. He promised himself he would stay strong for her. He could cry in the privacy of his own room.
She saw through him though if the sudden reassuring hand on his forearm was anything to go by.
“Are you okay?” she asked. “I’m sure this has been difficult for you.”
He shook his head in disbelief. Difficult for  him?! How could she be trying to reassure him even now? He was supposed to be reassuring  her.
He swallowed convulsively, cleared his throat, and swung his gaze back to hers. “So… umm… Would you like to talk about some things or shall I show you our usual route around the city?” he offered, trying to barrel his way past her concern for him.
It worked. Her whole face lit up. “Definitely the city!” she said, turning towards the open air and the city below them. “Using the yo-yo just feels right! It’s exhilarating!”
Despite the lingering burning behind his eyes, he couldn’t help but mirror her joy. “Let’s go then.”
“Do you want to join us, Rena?” Ladybug asked.
Rena shook her head with a smile. “Maybe next time. You should get reacquainted with your partner.”
He nodded his thanks to her, which she acknowledged with the same gesture.
Then with a glance over to Ladybug who was vibrating in place with excitement, he decided there was no reason for delay, and launched himself into the sky, trusting that Ladybug would follow. She did.
And chasing each other from one landmark to the next, it was easy to pretend everything was okay. That nothing had changed.
Except… something had.
As Ladybug’s lithe muscled form swung through the city with the same grace and expertise it always had, her eyes literally sparkled with childlike wonder as they took in the sights for the very first time. Her beaming smile could have lit up the whole city. It never wavered.
He had  never once  seen her so joyful and weightless.
So free.
Maybe there were advantages to forgetting everything.
Maybe it didn’t have to be the end of his world. Maybe everything would be okay.

Marinette and Mjolnir
Based on This by @lenoreofraven
repost of This by me
1 [here], 2 [here], 3 [here]
The first Marinette knew of Thor being planet side was when Hail started levitating, Hail and Eruption had been gifts from Thor after she managed to pass the test Odin had set before her, before she took Guardianship of the Reality Stone. Marinette had named them herself, they had been made using the Uru metal that made most, if not all, Asgardian weapons. Marinette had gone onto work with the Avengers, in both big and small conflicts, until the sceptre had been retrieved and Ultron had been born. Then thing went south for a while.
Ever since the Ultron debacle, the Avengers, and any other members who had been on loan from before Ultron such as Ladybug herself, had gone their separate ways until they were called on again.
Marinette had walked into her living room to find Natasha and Tony waiting for her. They gave a quick explanation of the forming events, how Steve was refusing to sign the Sokovia Accords and how the Team had been split. They didn’t know that Marinette already knew and had already picked her side. She told them she was going to deposit a couple of things in her room before talking to them. She then left via her balcony and met up with Clint, before joining him with Steve and Bucky.
There was the battle at the airport, with only Captain America, Bucky and Ladybug making it to the plane. Tony met up with them and everything was fine. Until the truth was revealed and everything that they had been fighting over had been for nothing. Marinette returned to Paris with a warning from Ross, as she technically had helped. When asked, Marinette would always deny any knowledge when Captain America broke everyone out.
Marinette broke herself from her musings, before summoning a globe towards her. Her powers were that of creation, manifesting during an Akuma attack, when she launched the Akuma, a couple of builders calling themselves Ground Pound, across the Seine. Marinette was the target of quite a few reporters for the next couple of days.
Marinette’s eyes glowed, before a small pinprick appeared on Norway. Marinette internally smirked and then went downstairs. Peter was over on an exchange, while Cassie was over with her mother and stepfather. All of them were given free range of the Bakery while they were there. Marinette saw Peter and an annoying little brother, which made things weird when she found out that Peter was older than her.
Peter opened his mouth to say hello, when Marinette created a portal and walked into Norway. The sight that greeted her was dull, just a green field with the Bifrost making burnt into the grass and Mjolnir laying in shards.
Marinette froze, slowly making her way to the hammer, kneeling down and touching the shards, not believing her eyes. Marinette frowned, before shrugging her jacket off and piling the broken hammer into it as best as she could. She rose to her feet and opened another portal and walked back into her family’s living room.
Peter now understood what Marinette’s friend meant by ‘the arms’, although, he was more focused on what seemed to be a small animal, until Marinette put it down and the handle rolled out. Marinette reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone and dialled a number.
“Hey, Tony, I know you’re watching the light blink, but Thor was planet side and- oh now you pick up!” Said Marinette, leaning back on her heels, “Yes, Thor, Goldilocks, God of Thunder, was planet side, in Norway and something broke him hammer.”
Marinette was silent, before saying, “No, he’s not, from what I’ve seen he’s gone back to Asgard. Yes, his hammer is really broken, that’s actually why I called, I need a bar, maybe two of gold.”
Peter tried not to choke as Marinette said that, while Cassie’s mouth just dropped open, “Yes, you heard me right, yes when I say gold, I mean solid gold. What do you mean what do I need it for? It should be obvious.”
Marinette was quiet as Tony said something, before she said, “Gold is the only earth metal that will be able to successfully deal with the amount of power Mjolnir is imbued with. You’re a billionaire, you’ll think of something.”
Marinette then hung up, before she turned her attention to the hammer itself, muttering to herself “Tony will probably take a week.”
Tony, in fact did not take a week, only two days after the call, Tony turned up at College Francoise Dupont with two bars of gold and a half-scowl half-smile look on his face. Marinette felt a bit bad about asking him for the gold. Tony, and Happy after he parked the car, were fine with Marinette fetching the broken hammer from her home. When Marinette came back, Alya quietly pulled her aside. Alya told Marinette how Lila had said she was personal friends with Tony Stark, within hearing range of Tony Stark. Marinette could only imagine how well that went down. Marinette found Peter busting his gut laughing, as Lila was being held in place by on of Tony’s suits. Tony, for someone who had gotten no sleep and then lied about, was remarkably calm.
Marinette quietly cleared her throat, making everyone look at her, Marinette held up the bag that had the remains of the hammer in it, before walking over to Tony and emptying that bag.
Tony silently handed her one of the bars of gold. While everyone knew about Marinette’s powers, they had never been seen up close. Marinette waved her hand, making the fragments fit together, before her eyes glowed and morphed the gold bar into a liquid, making it go between the cracks of the hammer, before the second bar took over when the first was used up, with the leftover gold making a small cage to keep the fragments in place.
Marinette got to her feet and picked the hammer up.
“Alright, since Goldilocks is probably going to want this back, who wants to hold the hammer?”
Tony was the first to volunteer, his face taking a shocked look when the Hammer gained a large weight and dropped to the ground. After that everyone tried to pick the hammer up, Lila humiliating herself trying to pick it up.
Marinette frowned when the Hammer remained on the floor. Experimentally, she opened her hand and the Hammer flew into her grasp.
The following Akuma was not fun. Not. At. All. Fun.
*3 and a half years later*
Marinette swallowed as she, Adrien and Thor walked through Paris. After checking the memorials, Marinette had found that her parents were lost, as well as roughly half of their class. She was, however, spared of seeing the names of the other Miraculous users, running into Alya, Nino and Chloe while she was there. Adrien and Marinette quickly caught up with the others, Thor had stood off to the side, only saying something when Marinette introduced him.
The snap had cost them all, their friends, family and even their pets were lost. For Thor, Marinette and Adrien, however, it was devastating, the earrings were damaged beyond use, Tikki unable to manifest a physical form, Adrien had his arm taken by the Titan and Thor held himself to blame for Thanos succeeding.
Thor would’ve drowned himself in Fortnite and Beer, if Marinette hadn’t taken Stormbreaker and said to Thor that he can have the axe back when he was going to be responsible for his people. Things were tense shortly after, until Thor and Marinette had gotten into a screaming match and Marinette saying that unlike Thor, some were directly responsible, since she failed to protect the Reality stone. Thor had shut up, quickly after that. Marinette said for her failure, Thanos managed to win and it cost everything.
Marinette had vanished for a few days, before they found her sitting under a tree in the pouring rain. They all agreed on one thing, Thanos’s name will never be spoken.
“No one’s bought the Bakery and the Bank hasn’t tried anything.” Said Nino, looking at the three, “Namely because Chloe grew a heart and managed to convince her father to get the bank to back off.”
Chloe quietly scoffed, pretending to look at her nails.
“Yeah, Chloe has actually gotten kinder,” Said Alya, “Although, some people that’s because she-”
Chloe then screeched, making everyone flinch, “Don’t. Finish. That. Sentence.”
Marinette slowed as they reached the doors of the Bakery. With a shaky hand, she unlocked the door and pushed it open. Marinette saw some mouldy pastries, her nose wrinkling in disgust, having no doubt that the rest of the food that wasn’t long lasting had met the same fate. Marinette slowly made her way up the stairs, she reached her hand out and Mjolnir flew into her grasp.
Marinette turned around and held the hammer out to Thor.
“I think this belongs to you.”

Ok....hear me out
So Fu is like what, almost 200 yrs old right? (Just ckd, hes 186 yrs old) Ok....WHAT IF he ended up being a distant relative to Marinette? Like after the temple was destroyed, maybe his first love was one of marinettes however many times great grandmothers? Maybe he kept the miraculous business a secret due to him still running emotionally and mentally from his mistake and bc he still had some resentment towards the box and did not wish that burden on his new family when trying to lead a normal-ish life. He then ended up outliving his wife and disappeared from his children and now grandchildrens lives so it wasnt known that he was "immortal," or whatever (also leaving behind a similar letter for his family that he did for marinette in miracle queen) and many years later in the early 20th century, he met his current girlfriend.....and way later when he learned that hawkmoth was in paris, he knew exactly who to go to first.....his now (maybe) 4 or 5 times great granddaughter Marinette, which would explain why he seemed to favor her over chat....he was trying to bond and meet/ get to know his granddaughter and have an influential/ mentoring presence in her life (not only has a grandfather figure but obviously as the gaurdian too) before he gave her the gaurdianship and forgot her....💔❤
Tumblr media
And maybe he picked Adrien to be Chat knowing they were made for each other and he wanted her to have someone special in her life who can be there for her when he was gone.....he knows its hard to find happiness when overwhelmed with the guardianship so maybe thats why he saw Adrien and was like YES (which would explain why he seemingly was so specific when testing the two of them to make sure they were hero material in origins) So she could have someone that can not only help but also understand her regarding the miraculous business so neither of them feel alone or like an outcast like he did with his family and be forced to lie....someone she can be OPEN AND HONEST WITH like he didnt have until his current girlfriend.
Tumblr media
Someone who will have her back with and without their masks.....like a PARTNER. Making Adrien in a way Fu's ultimate gift to Marinette....the love of her life/ the best partner she could ever ask for. Therefore making them Fu's redeeming legacy as gaurdian, the best miraculous team the temple has ever seen.
Tumblr media
And who knows, maybe after all this...saving all the lost kwamis, restoring the temple, completing and returning all miraculous boxes to the temple and fixing Fu's mistake.....they will praise and reward her by allowing her to keep her memories somehow.
Just my thoughts.....just me? Ok
Anyways, have a miraculous day 😉😘 and as always, thanks for your time ❤

Chapter 3:
Zero Days Since Marinette Lost her Memory
She woke up for the first time held in black clad arms. His masked face was the first thing she saw. She was cradled to his chest as he shook with heartbreaking sobs.
“I’m sorry, m’lady,” he was saying over and over again. “I’m sorry I wasn’t fast enough. I’m so sorry.”
She didn’t know what he was talking about. But she knew that in his hold she was forever safe and cared for. She also knew she couldn’t stand to see him sad.
She reached up and brushed his tears away. “Please, don’t cry, kitty.”
His cries only intensified. He buried his face in her shoulder, leaving her with a face full of blond hair.
She didn’t mind. She squeezed him harder, knowing without understanding how she knew that he needed her.
Once he had calmed enough to stand, he had taken her home.
Home to the smell of freshly baked croissants, the strong reassuring arms of a father, and the warm loving eyes of a mother.
Just as she trusted the boy dressed up as a cat, she felt only warmth and affection when her eyes landed on the man and woman. The boy said these were her parents and she believed him.
But she didn’t go to them, instead remaining pressed into the gloved hand at her back. She didn’t need comfort right now. Not the way he did.
“Marinette! What happened?” the almost familiar woman greeted.
She frowned at the question.  Marinette. Was that her name?
“She doesn’t remember anything,” the boy told her parents. His voice sounded like gravel and his eyes were still bloodshot from crying. It wasn’t right. Marinette didn’t know how she knew that.
“What do you mean, she doesn’t remember anything?” the man that was her father demanded.
The boy at her side broke into tears once again, and Marinette wrapped an arm around him. “I’m sorry,” he choked out. “It was my fault.”
Marinette wanted to argue with him. Of course it wasn’t his fault, but she didn’t know what to argue. She didn’t remember anything.
“What happened?” her mother demanded.
But the boy shook his head, unable to speak through his tears.
“Leave him alone,” Marinette said.
Both her parents froze.
“No, no, it’s fine,” the boy choked out. “She did it to protect us. All of us. It happened so fast. I was too late. I’m sorry,” he babbled through his tears.
“What did she do?” her father asked.
“She… she forgot everything,” he said.
“You can’t just  decide  to forget everything!” her father growled.
“Tom, calm down,” her mother urged, a hand on his shoulder. “Chat Noir, can you take a breath for me?”
Marinette’s hand gripped onto his shoulder. His name was Chat Noir. A strange name, and yet, it snapped into her head like a missing puzzle piece.
He nodded and sucked in a breath.
“Now, did she hit her head?” her mother asked.
He shook his head again. “I don’t know,” he said. “I didn’t see it. The akuma had her cornered. I wasn’t there fast enough. I should’ve been there sooner. The cure… the cure didn’t fix it.”
Marinette hugged him again, and he buried his face in her hair.
“I’m so sorry,” he sobbed.
“Shhh,” she soothed into his ear, stroking his hair like he was an actual cat. “I’m fine.”
It was true.
But his cries jumped in intensity.
“Thank you, Chat Noir,” her mother said. “For bringing her home.”
“I should go,” he croaked, untangling himself from Marinette’s hold and pushing her towards her parents.
Marinette almost objected. She didn’t want him to be alone. She knew he couldn’t be alone. Not today, not tonight.
But she didn’t know who he was, didn’t know what was going on and so she didn’t say anything. She let him go, And let herself be swept away in her parents’ arms.
But her eyes followed him until he leapt out of site over the tall buildings.
“Marinette! Marinette!”
Her attention shifted back to her mother’s voice.
“What’s the last thing you remember?”
“I… I don’t remember anything before today.”
Her father gave off a strangled sound.

Chapter 2:
Six Days Since Marinette Lost her Memory
Marinette stood in the center of her own room. The pink walls were adorned with sketches and photos, and other unfamiliar souvenirs of her life. Her eyes jumped curiously from a hand made purse to a bowler hat decorated with a feather to a cork board covered in pictures of her friends.
She loved her room. Which made sense, she supposed. She had theoretically been the one to decorate it, but she didn’t remember decorating it. And now, the room was like a cave filled with treasure. Because each little piece of it held a secret - some part of herself that meant something to her, a clue to what her life had been like before…
Before she had woken up in the arms of a boy wearing a magic black catsuit. His heartbroken sobs had caused something in her chest to twist painfully. She hadn’t understood why then, but from that very first moment she knew she had wanted to make things better for him.
She had no idea how to do that now that she understood what she had lost. Sixteen years worth of memories.
The echoes of which were papered onto the walls and notebooks of her room just waiting to be rediscovered.
No one else seemed to share her excitement. Like Chat Noir, her parents had been devastated. She hadn’t known what to do in the face of their grief. She hadn’t known how to comfort or assure them.
They had brought her to the hospital where she had spent four excruciating days being poked and prodded, scanned, interviewed, and asked to fill out questionnaires and surveys until they all blurred together.
The neurologists found nothing wrong with her. Other than the missing memories of course. There was no apparent cause of her amnesia. In fact, her memory loss didn’t line up with the usual progressions and symptoms of any known type of amnesia. It was almost as if she hadn’t actually experienced any neurological disease or injury at all. It was more like her mind had just been erased. And with unprecedented symptoms and no discernible cause, the doctors had been unable to say whether her memory would return or not.
Which had upset her parents all over again.
But not her.
Which was puzzling. It seemed like she should be upset that she had lost all recollection of her life. But she only felt a curiosity towards the events that came before her memory began. She was curious! How couldn’t she be? It was her  life.
But she wasn’t sad. Or angry. Or anything like that.
Perhaps it was because she didn’t know what she had lost. And they all did. How could she miss what she couldn’t remember?
She grabbed her new sketchbook and a pencil from her desk and headed downstairs to the kitchen. She opened a cabinet and pulled out a tin filled with jasmine tea, and then set a tea kettle to heat on the stove. She moved to a different cupboard and unerringly pulled out a jar of honey.
It was strange. She had realized the day before that as long as she didn’t think about it, she knew where everything was. She could find craft supplies in her drawers and boxes. She could thread her sewing machine and apparently stitch actual clothes together. But if anyone asked her if she had something or where something was she couldn’t answer.
After adding a spoonful of honey to her empty tea cup, she took a seat at the table. She opened her sketchbook, apparently one of many that she owned, to a blank page. Within minutes she was blocking out her father’s form. His face still filled her with warmth and security. Even though everything she knew about him she had learned only that week.
Most of her sketchbooks were filled with designs for hats and dresses. She didn’t feel any connection to those. They were pretty enough she supposed, but ever since she had woken up for the first time as far as she knew, she had only felt inspired to draw people.
And she was definitely better at drawing their clothes than their features, but she kept coming back to faces anyway. Faces seemed to hold something familiar. She still didn’t recall anything, but she  felt something.
It was her mother that had commented in the hospital that if she could read and write just fine, that she’d likely be able to draw as well. Marinette had been so excited by the prospect her mother had run downstairs and bought her the small sketchbook immediately.
Her mother’s image occupied the first blank page of the gift. She had stared at the finished sketch in pleased satisfaction. It was almost magical what she could create with a pencil and paper.
And there was something about the act of the pencil stroking the paper that calmed her. Like it was a physical way to connect with memories she no longer had.
A few minutes later, the tea kettle was whistling. Marinette filled her cup, grabbed a few pastries, and headed back up to her room.
She closed the door, only to jump backwards at the unexpected presence pacing between her desk and her chaise lounge.
“Sorry!” the girl in a blue costume said. “I didn’t mean to startle you.”
Marinette stared at the top of the girl’s head. She had fox ears. Literal fox ears. Marinette had seen pictures of course. She had been reading up on all the heroes obsessively since her mother told her the boy who had brought her home was known as Chat Noir. But Marinette had assumed the ears were more decorative, part of a costume. But as she watched them, they twitched and swiveled like  actual fox ears.
“I also don’t mean to intrude,” the heroine said. “It must seem weird for a random stranger to be hanging out in your room because you likely don’t remember me.”
Marinette smiled. It wasn’t weird at all. If anything Marinette felt more at ease with the other girl present than she had been alone. “Not at all. You’re… Rena Rouge?” Marinette guessed, though the color was off based on the pictures she had looked at.
Startled blue eyes flew to her. “How do you know that?”
“There’s a blog about the superheroes?” Marinette said. “I’ve been reading it. Apparently, my best friend runs it.”
Rena visibly deflated. “Right. The Ladyblog. Of course.”
Marinette bit her lower lip. Apparently Rena Rouge was just one more person disappointed in Marinette’s lack of memory. “I don’t remember you,” Marinette said, “but I do trust you.” It was the best Marinette had to offer.
Blue-violet eyebrows furrowed together under her mask. “You do? Why?”
Marinette shrugged. She had no idea, but it was the truth. “I don’t remember.”
Rena stared at her in surprise.
“So what can I do for you, Rena Rouge?”
“It’s Rena Furtive now. Rouge doesn’t seem appropriate with the updated transformation.”
“I like it,” Marinette said, glancing up and down the costume one again. “You look good in pastels.”
Rena smiled. “Thanks! That’s high praise coming from you. But that’s not why I’m here.”
“Yeah, I figured.”
“I’m here to explain why you have no memory.”
Marinette’s smile fell off her face. She stared at Rena in shock. “W-what?”
“I would have come sooner, but you weren’t here.”
Marinette dropped to her chaise lounge, her eyes never leaving Rena’s pacing form, eager for answers that no one else had been able to provide.
“You were reading the Ladyblog?” Rena asked.
Marinette nodded.
“You aren’t just a normal girl, Marinette. You were Ladybug, and you were the Guardian of the miraculous. You gave up your memories to save all of Paris and keep all of the miraculouses from hands that would abuse them.”
Marinette blinked.
“I imagine you have a lot of questions.”
“Will my memories come back?” That’s what everyone seemed to want.
Rena’s mouth pressed into a solemn line. “I don’t know of a way to bring them back. But I have all your notes—“
Her notes?
“—on the grimoire. And we already have learned that the miraculous are capable of far more than the Order ever figured out, so I’m gonna keep trying. But they won’t come back on their own.”
Marinette absorbed this news without feeling much more than she had when she was told she had lost her memory.
“Can you tell me about Chat Noir?” Marinette asked.
Rena’s face looked like Marinette had just hit her upside the head. “You want to know about Chat Noir? Not yourself?”
Marientte shrugged. She figured there was time to learn about herself later. Chat Noir was the one who was hurting. “He was my partner, right?”
“He  is  your partner,” Rena insisted, holding out a black octagonal box. “I came here today to ask you to become Ladybug once again.”
Marinette reached out, and then hesitated at the last second. “You really think I can be a superhero even now?”
Rena Furtive laughed. “Yes. There’s no one better.”
That was crazy. She didn’t remember anything. She didn’t know how to use her powers, or what these akumas could do. She didn’t even know how to be Marinette, let alone the literal superheroine of the whole city.
“Would anyone trust me as a hero if they knew I lost my memory?”
“We haven’t told anyone that you lost your memory. Only Chat Noir and I know. Sharing that might risk your secret identity.”
“And Chat Noir would trust me to be his partner even knowing I don’t know  anything?!”
“Chat Noir would trust you with anything in any form.”
Marinette shook her head. That was insane. He was clearly insane.
But Marinette wanted to see him again. She didn’t want him to be alone or to be sad.
Her fingers wrapped around the box. She wasn’t sure she could be a hero, but she knew that she couldn’t abandon her partner.
