"Im not into Mariner x Ma'ah or T'Lyn x Boimler shipping, but on the other hand, if those ships became canon then that means fuel for some partner-swapping headcanons."

Do you ship T'Lyn with anyone? I like her with Mariner but I also have T'Lyn x Ma'ah as a rare pair. Just curious if you have any T'Lyn ships of your own I haven't thought of.
I don't think I know enough about that show to ship anyone but here's Ma'ah because he's hot!
#Ma'ah thank you for your service (being hot & killing that traitor dude)#I think if I shipped anything it'd be 'Tendi has a crush on T'Lyn' which IS shipping to me#lwd#bee doodles#st lower decks#anon

In regards to Boim'Lyn popularity on Reddit, I've observed the shippers fall into two camps. There's the normal ones who ship them because Boimler's uptight for a human and T'Lyn is wild for a Vulcan; therefore they're "compatible" but then there's the other group who think Boimler can only win at life if T'Lyn falls in love with him and sometimes dislike that Mariner is Boims' closest female friend.
I mean I guess the first reason makes some sense? Although by that logic I would think Mariner x Ma'ah would also be a popular ship and it doesn't really seem to be. Kind of odd honestly, sinse imo they have more chemistry than boim'lyn does.
The second reason is ... yeah. I had sort of picked up on the vibe of T'Lyn being a prize for Boimler to win from some of the Reddit threads I've seen and it definitely leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.
I haven't really seen the Reddit fandom treat other female characters in the show that way either, so it's kind of weird to me that T'Lyn is getting this reaction? But idk I don't actually spend much time on Reddit, so maybe I'm just missing something.
#thanks for the ask!#I do get the impression that a lot of the Reddit fanboys project onto Brad#and then get mad when his actual characterization is 'guy who is squishy and sometimes in need of protection from his badass girl besties"#mostly because they've been raised on media where the everyman projection character#always gets to be the badass hero no matter what#and Lower Decks is one of the few shows where the male lead isn't given that privilege (one of the reasons I like the show so much)#but if that's the only way you're used to engaging with projection characters#of course you're going to try and force all those same tropes onto them#even when the show itself is actively trying to deconstruct said tropes#ya feel?

I know it doesn't seem like we'll ever see T'Lyn or Ma'ah again and apparently that stuff about seeing more of Mariner and Jennifer as a couple is no longer true, but I'm still going to be sat over here in my little corner shipping various combinations of T'Lyn/Mariner/Jennifer and Boimler/Ma'ah.

Confession #48
"Personally, I don't see the appeal of Ma'ah/Mariner shipping. Don't get me wrong, I understand the appeal of the ship in a bargain bin version of Worf/Jadzia sort of way, but I really think it reduces Ma'ah and Mariner to their brawn and fighting, plus Ma'ah kinda subverted Klingon stereotypes in "wej Duj" so why would I pair him with the human who acts most stereotypically Klingon? Boring!"

"I read on Memory Alpha that Ma'ah and T'Lyn were originally just gonna be one-episode characters, basically if Mariner was a Vulcan or Boimler was a Klingon. Makes me wonder if there's a universe out there where T'Lyn and Ma'ah are the main protagonists instead of Mariner and Boimler."
