thinking of this line from TVA and Armand's lifelong desire to be properly controlled by someone, anyone, to be protected and have things explained in a way it can rely on. how he ends up lashing out at or punishing the people in his life for not controlling him the way he wants, whether it's Lestat (for addicting the position of power Armand placed him in), Louis (for not 'caring' enough about controlling Armand to violate his boundaries in the Madeleine situation), Louis again (for spiraling into grief-fueled drug use that impacts his ability to control anything), Daniel (for refusing to let Armand's fantasy about being the powerless one in Loumand's relationship act as reality).

he even fights with Marius about this, despite Marius being the gold standard of iron control Armand's been pursuing for centuries, because no matter how controlling Marius (especially show!Marius is) he also wrestles with his own internalized anti-vampirism and his doubt and guilt about their nature of his and Armand's relationship (something he clearly hasn't come to terms with in the present today considering how much he leaves out of his own book). so he attempts to make "amends" by physically and emotionally shutting Armand out, which leads Armand to equate a lack of control to a lack of love. it's how we get a situation where Armand simultaneously punishes his lovers (like with the trial) for not controlling him as much as he needs to be controlled and views his subtle attempts to control them as the purest expression of love.

Something underrated about Marius/Armand’s dynamic is Amadeo being such a little devil and Marius still calling him “my darling one” “lovely one” “cherub” “little angel” also the most underrated and crazy “my little one”

i have said this before but it is so deeply depressing how like objectively? marius is probably the single most positive thing that happened to armand and like trying to convince him that the man who saved him from sex slavery and educated him, fed him, acted as his father and teacher and lover was an evil abuser who should die would be um. well it would be pointless. and cruel. so like what are you even meant to do with that

marius grooming amadeo into a perfect little fledgling only to make him and abandon him once he was bored and didn’t want to deal with the spiraling he caused to go and chase pandora, who is not nearly as loyal or devoted as amadeo, for 5 centuries. armand isolating daniel and turning him into a devout pet only to make him and abandon him once he was bored and didn’t want to deal with the spiraling he caused to go and chase louis for 50 more years when louis (theoretically) is not nearly as loyal or devoted as daniel. armand and daniel’s relationship infamously being called “devil’s minion”, dehumanizing daniel and deifying armand. marius calling amadeo his minion and amadeo calling marius his living lord. marius calling amadeo his son and armand calling daniel his firstborn. marius and armand both using presents and riches to keep their lovers dependent on them. the cycles…THE FUCKING CYCLES…
