Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Feast day: July 16
Patron saint of Chile
Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary in her role as patroness of the Carmelite Order. The first Carmelites were Christian hermits living on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land during the late 12th and early to mid 13th centuries. They built a chapel in the midst of their hermitages which they dedicated to the Blessed Virgin and celebrated a special Mass and Office in her honor. In 1726 it became a celebration of the universal Church under the title of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

Memorial of Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Mt 12:46-50
While Jesus was speaking to the crowds,
his mother and his brothers appeared outside,
wishing to speak with him.
Someone told him, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside,
asking to speak with you."
But he said in reply to the one who told him,
"Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?"
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said,
"Here are my mother and my brothers.
For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father
is my brother, and sister, and mother."

“Love is the only treasure that you amass in this world, and which remains with you through to the next.
All the treasures, money, glories and achievements you think you have  owned in this world and believe are yours will remain in this world;  even your very bones are not yours. Only love will go with you to the next world, and whoever stands before the Lord devoid of love will die of shame, and that will be the moment of his real death.
Man dies if he does not turn into love, for God is love, and only love is eternal.”
~St. Charbel

About the design:
This wood carving artwork depicts the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Chaste Heart of Saint Joseph. The Sacred Heart of Jesus is a symbol of Christ's infinite love for mankind, it has wounds on its flanks, and the crown of thorns represents the wounds of our sins. A cross is implanted in it to represent the grief he has caused in his life and passions. This image was given by Jesus to the French nun Saint Margaret Marie Alacoque in a series of revelations in the 17th century.
The Immaculate Heart is where St. Luke writes that she "keeps all these things" (Luke 2:51), which she learned from Jesus' mother. It represents her love for Christ and the world even though it is pierced by the sword (from Simeon's prophecy in Luke 2:35). Image of burning love surrounded by roses, similar to the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The pure heart of St. Joseph is wrapped in lilies, symbolizing his purity and holiness as consort of the Virgin Mary and foster father of Jesus.

The glory of God's creation is only a shadow of the spiritual realities which we cannot see, but which we can mystically possess even in the present darkness.
