All hail Mary! Lady full of grace, The child that you bear will save the human race!
Through you the great I Am Takes on the flesh of man And He comes to save us from our sin!
(Happy Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, and Happy New Year!)

JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. The internet has a long and storied history of random, unsolicited Christian Sonic fanart. I’m not sure why this is, but as a random, unsolicited Christian myself, I figured it was time I added to that legacy. This cartoon features Shadow the Hedgehog (Sonic’s edgy rival) praying the rosary before a shrine to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He says “Ave Maria” because that’s the first line of the “Hail Mary” (a popular Catholic prayer) in Latin, but is also a reference to Shadow’s best friend from his tragic backstory: Maria. 2. Sonic Adventure was one of the first games I remember playing. My brothers, cousins, and I would spend all our limited gaming time playing it on my uncle’s Sega Dreamcast. When the sequel, Sonic Adventure 2, came out, my grandparents got it for me as an early birthday gift. Even my sisters enjoyed the games because of the adorable Chao Garden (bring it back, Sega, you cowards). Anyway, the series has had its ups and downs since then, but it’ll always hold a special place in my heart. Sonic Adventure 2 also introduced Shadow the Hedgehog and his tragic backstory with Maria, which the new movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, finally adapted for the big screen. I never thought I’d see the day. 3. The description under the cartoon is a parody of “All Hail Shadow”, a theme song from the notorious Shadow the Hedgehog spin-off game from 2005. Instead of the original lyrics, I've turned it into a revamped “Hail Mary” prayer, because all things will submit to God.

"so and so isn't a very good Catholic"
My brother in Christ, I don't know how to tell you this but there are no good Catholics, we all suck at being Catholic. Except Mary of course, Mary does it right.

Okay the Catholics get a win for this one. Because on this episode of "Am I going to convert to Catholicism" I actually prayed to a saint for the first time.
I was kind of going through it (kind of relapsed into my katabasis arc ig) and my relationship with God was struggling because of it. I was mad. Like really mad, because I felt abandoned by him. And so I couldn't pray. I didn't want to hear from them. Because why the heck would you leave me to begin with??? There was all this pent up negative feelings I had towards them and I didn't feel like I could go directly to God.
But, @patron-saint-of-lesbeans recomended reaching out to Mary and asking for intercession on my behalf.
Now, I'm not some radical protestant or anything, and i was completely okay with people praying to the saints, but for me personally I didn't think it was something i'd ever do.
But I did.
And now I think I get it.
Sometimes I can't approach the Throne of Grace because the throne doesn't feel particularly gracious. Sometimes I can't approach Mercy because they don't feel particularly merciful. Sometimes I can't approach God because God doesn't feel particularly loving.
But I can approach Mary, who is full of Grace, who is the Mother of Mercy, the Mother of God, and she can help lead me to the Prince of Peace.
So just... thank you. Thank you Rj, thank you Mary, and thank you God.

"Spo'o'bovva, innit? You've oi'd yer last bruv, you 'ave!"
___
JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. In this Bible story, Joseph and Mary bring Jesus to the temple for His presentation, according to the Mosaic Law. While they're there, a totally righteous old dude named Simeon happens to be visiting at the same time. The Holy Spirit had promised Simeon that he wouldn't see death before he'd seen the Christ. When Simeon met the Holy Family and held Jesus, he knew this was the Christ he'd been promised. Then he blessed the parents and gave them a bittersweet prophecy about Jesus's future mission and the toll it would take. 2. As part of his prophecy, Simeon tells Mary, "This Child is destined for the rise and fall of many in Israel; a Sign that will be contradicted, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. And your own [heart/soul/self] a sword shall pierce." I've heard two interpretations of the "sword shall pierce" line. The first is that even Mary's immaculate heart will not be spared questioning by her Son, who tells His followers that His true family (and those who are truly blessed) are those who "hear the word of God and observe it"; of course, Mary did just that throughout her life, and proved it with her "yes" at the Annunciation, but by calling her blessedness into question before His followers, Jesus reveals to us exactly where her blessedness comes from. The second interpretation of Simeon's words is that Mary will be made to endure the passion and death of her only Son -- a suffering that would strike any mother to the core. Though I like both interpretations, in this cartoon, my wording assumes the latter. 3. In the Bible, when Simeon gives his "sword shall pierce" prophecy, the holy couple listens silently and attentively. In this cartoon, Mary is shown to interpret Simeon's words figuratively, preparing her for her Son's mission. Meanwhile, Joseph is shown to interpret Simeon's words literally, as if he's threatening to stab Mary himself like some kind of English thug from the 1400s... or the 2020s.
