Tyler gets diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder(SAD)

"Come on, Tyler, it's just one more block!" Taylor's voice pierced the chilly autumn air, her breath forming a small cloud around her lips. She jogged backward, trying to encourage her brother to keep up the pace.

"I'm fine," Tyler mumbled, his eyes glued to the sidewalk. "Just a little tired."

Taylor stopped, placing a hand on her hip. "Tired? You've been sleeping like a bear all week."

"I know," Tyler replied, finally looking up. "But something's different about this year."

The twins had always been close, finishing each other's sentences and sharing a bond that seemed to transcend words. But as the days grew shorter and the leaves turned from green to gold, Tyler had become a shadow of his usual self. Taylor had noticed his mood swings and lack of energy, but she couldn't quite pinpoint the cause.

Their mother called it "winter blues," but Taylor knew it was more than that. Tyler's enthusiasm for school, soccer, and their weekly trips to the comic book store had faded away like the last rays of summer sun. She had seen him staring out the window for hours, his expression a mix of sadness and detachment.

Taylor was determined to help Tyler, even if she didn't fully understand what was happening to him. She had read about different kinds of depression online and wondered if that was it. But she also knew that talking to him was the first step.

"Hey," she began tentatively as they sat down on a bench in the park. "You know we can tell each other anything, right?"

Tyler nodded, his eyes welling up with tears. "It's just... everything feels heavy. And gray."

Taylor squeezed his hand. "Let's go home and talk to Mom about it."

The two stood up, ready to face the unknown together.

At home, Taylor led Tyler into the cozy living room, where their mother was reading a book. She looked up, noticing the solemn expressions on their faces.

"Mom," Taylor began, her voice wavering slightly. "I think Tyler might be really struggling with something. More than just the 'winter blues'."

Their mother set her book down, her eyes flicking between them with concern. "What do you mean, honey?"

"It's just..." Tyler started, his voice trailing off. He took a deep breath, trying to gather his thoughts. "Everything just feels so hard. And dark. Like I can't find the energy to do anything I used to love."

Their mother's expression grew serious. "I've noticed a change too, Tyler," she said gently. "And it's not just me. Your teachers have mentioned that you've been withdrawn in class."

Mariana suggested they visit a doctor to get a professional opinion. Tyler felt a mix of relief and fear at the prospect of finally getting some answers.

The doctor's office was a stark contrast to the warmth of their home. The white walls and sterile smell made Tyler feel even more exposed and vulnerable. But as the doctor, a kind, middle-aged woman with a gentle smile, started asking questions, he found himself opening up. He talked about his mood swings, his lack of interest in activities, and the way the darkness of winter seemed to settle into his bones.

"It sounds like you might have Seasonal Affective Disorder," the doctor said after listening intently. "It's a type of depression that happens when the seasons change."

Taylor's eyes widened with understanding. "So it's not just me being lazy?" Tyler asked, hope seeping into his voice.

"No, sweetie," their mother reassured him, her hand on his shoulder. "It's a real condition."

The doctor went on to explain that SAD was treatable with therapy and light therapy. She recommended they try a special lamp that mimicked sunlight to help Tyler's body regulate its mood.

Leaving the office with a prescription for the lamp and a referral for a therapist, the weight on Tyler's shoulders felt a little lighter. He had a name for what he was feeling, and more importantly, a way to fight it.

Back at home, Taylor helped Tyler set up the lamp in his room, positioning it so the artificial sunlight would greet him each morning. As they worked, she couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in her brother for opening up. They had always faced challenges together, and she knew this was just another hurdle they'd overcome.

Once the lamp was set up, Tyler sat down in its warm glow, feeling a tiny spark of hope flicker to life within him. Maybe, just maybe, this winter wouldn't be as endless as it seemed.

They have a fear of abandonment, or at least Taylor does (since she's the one they say "Im here" to) because of their parents being absent throughout their childhood

hernandez head canon

I feel like the twins looks very close/resemble their parents so well. For example, Tyler looks like Ethan, and Taylor looks like Mariana. Even though Tyler's her kid, I feel like Mariana accidentally calls/called him Ethan without thinking, just because of the resemblance, like in a way, Tyler is the mini Ethan, and Taylor is the mini Mariana. I also feel like Mariana kept on calling Tyler her husband's name, especially after his death, almost so she can always remember him. She always would, of course, but she missed him so much and felt that the world was empty without him. And so sometimes she'd notice, and sometimes not, if she says Ethan instead of Tyler when talking to him (<- I included that in the recent writing I made: Wedding Day Tears).

And when Ethan was alive, when the twins were little kids/younger, they would find it funny. But when he died, Tyler and Taylor would just remember their dad wasn't there anymore, but they couldn't find the courage to tell their mom to stop.

Let's talk about The Hernandez Family!

and why the whole situation with Tyler is actually a good thing to happen.

(‼️Spoilers for episodes 43-51‼️)

You've been warned...

Starting off with ep. 43 when we see Mariana Hernandez - Taylor and Tyler's mother - for the first time.

You can see the tension rising when she mentions the twin's father, which at the time is suspicious but since it goes unexplained it doesn't bring much of our attention until

Back then we couldn't confirm what that means, not until ep. 48 and Tyler's flashbacks. Now we know that the twins' father is dead, so that tells us that their mother doesn't seem to remember about that. To say more, she's CONVINCED that he's still alive because even when the situation points to him not being with them anymore, she still only finds it a bit weird but doesn't seem to remember the truth.

Either she doesn't want to remember it, or it's a part of some kind of medical, mental condition, but something that helps keep up this Delusion is that, as we know, after the death of Ethan Hernandez, Tyler took over his responsibilities.

Mariana never had to take over anything her husband did for the family, she didn't feel the weight that fell on them after his passing. All "thanks" to Tyler.

And for some reason her kids try to keep up this facade with distracting her from thinking about their father before she remembers anything

And they succeed, bringing them to the point when they are the ones that take care of her, instead of it being the other way around, as it should. She probably still does her share of responsibilities a parent should have (a part she was doing before too, when Ethan was alive) but the other half AND the mental burden is all on Tyler and Taylor.

But something changes in ep. 51

When Tyler is "injured", her first instinct is to call her husband - and his father - which is understandable, you wouldn't really think logically in a situation like that, but for Mariana, this is when the truth and logic finally hits her

She reminds herself that she can't call Ethan for help and you can clearly see that she's about to panic

But then Taylor comes in, and changes her mother's thinking of "I'm on my own, what do I even do?" To "I have others to care for, I'll think about myself later".

You can almost hear her thoughts saying "You're their mother. Act like it".

This is the moment she realizes that:

1. She can't depend on Ethan anymore

2. Tyler won't always be there to help her

3. She has to be strong for her kids because she should be. Because it's her responsibility that she's been neglecting... or just wasn't able to bring to life for WAY too long

After Tyler wakes up and the group leaves the hospital, it's said that his mom stayed there with him. I think both the time when Taylor needed her support and the time they spent together with Tyler when she was the one caring for him for a change will normalize their family situation. It will help Mariana realize that Tyler was and is still just a kid, and was never ready to take over his father's "position" in caring for her and Taylor, even if he did it because he had to.

That's what I think anyways, I'm open to discussion though ^^ and well, now as they're separated, their relationship will either freeze for a moment, or change again and hopefully it'll become even stronger after another reunion :)

Ok completely random thought, but where were the Hernandez's getting their money from? Did they just have a shit ton of savings? After Ethan died, Mariana seemed far too grief stricken to even leave her bed, let alone work. Was another family member helping financially?

Taylor suddenly went laugh and then ended up coughing Mariana went to get a water for Taylor

"so mom said you two are cute you should tell her already!" Taylor said between coughs

I fucking LOVED today’s episode idk why, probably because it was longer than usual and informative?

These reactions are SO CUTE but! One thing I noticed is Taylor got less screentime this chapter for some reason, she wasn’t included in some groups shots, this may or may not be unrelated but I have a feeling Red is building up something for her. But in contrast, Tyler got a LOT of screen-time this episode (it made me so fucking happy ahsjjaha) but also WHY?

Look at them, they’re trying. 💀

Also I still don’t get how Maverick is Mr Thomas when they’re both two different skintones, like I see 0 similarities between the two of them so I question whether this was a last minute made up decision by Red or pre-planned? Maybe she saw the Maverick x Thomas shippers and thought she had to put an end to that LMAO /j

I love this scene but what is Mariana doing? Ajksha and no Taylor in a group shot AGAIN. Aiden loves Lily sm, that is his adoptive sister at this point it’s so adorable.

Logan seems rlly unsurprised with the way his grandpa acts, I’m not sure if it’s because he knows whats going on with them or is just desensitised to their behaviour.
