'Birds Of Passage' movie review

Birds of passage’, originally titled ‘Pájaros de verano’ was written by Maria Camila Arias and Jacques Toulemonde Vidal. The movie is directed by Cristina Gallego and Ciro Guerra. Something interesting to note is that the co-directors of the movie were married and had two children together, but got divorced during the filming of birds of passage. I found that somewhat sad and ironic considering the themes in the movie that dealt with family and severed bonds. Speaking of the movie, like a few others I’ve watched within the past few months, it starts out with violence and death. This sets the stage—an expectation for what the rest of the movie will be like. The story focuses on Rapayet, who made a business deal with Americans to export marijuana. In my opinion, Rapayet was not an interesting character throughout the story. So much so that I don’t really feel like reviewing the individual conflicts he got into, because it really wasn’t that memorable to me. I think the issue for me is when a story centers around so much death and violence, I really have to be connected to the characters in order to be invested in what’s going on.

If I as the viewer have no personal attachment to any of the characters I’m probably not going to be interested in what choices they make. It’s like watching two random people you don’t know fight, it might be entertaining for a moment but you don’t know these people. You don’t know who to root for and all you don’t really care who wins.  The main takeaway I got from Rapayet’s story is that throughout his drug dealing he ran into many conflicts, some of them personal, which led to copious amounts of bloodshed. one example is when Moisés, Rapayet’s friend, kills two Americans because they were dealing with other people. Rapayet tries to let him off easy by simply not doing business with him anymore, but that leads to Moisés killing Gabriel and his family. Finally Rapayet realizes he has no choice but to kill Moisés, and he does. These types of situations are expected considering the kind of business they’re in. Despite this, Rapayet gets a wife and family who live a wealthy life thanks to the money he makes.  Later on in the movie Leonidas, Ursula's youngest son who is spoiled and privileged, disrespects Anibals daughter. I actually found Leonidas to be a more interesting character than Rapayet. Though he’s dislikable, he’s a good example of someone who thinks they can act however they want just because they have money and are treated like royalty. He also was the main reason everything fell apart in the end. His privilege, arrogance, and horrific actions led to the destruction of his entire family. When he was supposed to be working at Anibal's compounds to repent for his wrongdoings, Leonidas rapes Anibal's daughter which starts a war between both clans. While watching the movie, I didn’t actually realize he had raped her until I did further research on the plot after the fact. Maybe my computer's connection messed up around that part or maybe I didn’t pick up on the context clues, but either way now I completely understand why Anibal’s father refused to accept Rapayet’s offering for peace.

The feud ensues, as a result it causes destruction and several casualties on both sides. Anibal uses the money he has left to destroy Rapayet’s compound. Rapayet’s family gets taken away from him, and then Rapayet is eventually tracked down then murdered by Anubal. This movie shows how the actions of one person can have consequences for everyone around them, and how the cycle of violence and death leads to nothing in the end.

Finalizo el Curso de Entrenadores en Catamarca

Finalizó el pasado sábado en Catamarca el Curso de Nivel I de Entrenadores, del sistema de Formación y Certificación de Entrenadores World Athletics. El mismo fue gestionado por ASOCAT. En una emotiva como trascendente ceremonia, la Asociación Catamarqueña de Atletismo cerró este sábado 10 el Curso de Nivel 1 de Entrenadores del Sistema World Athletics - entidad Finalizaron la parte final del Curso 22 participantes, ocho mujeres y catorce varones. Comenzando en  setiembre de 2023, mediante la plataforma a distancia que viene implementando Atletismo Sudamericano, bajo una iniciativa argentina y responde a los parámetros exigidos por World Athletics, bajo la coordinación del ADC Atletismo Sudamericano. Dos extranjeros, uno de Perú y otro del lejano Marruecos, África, aprobaron la evaluación teórica y práctica durante la semana, además de bonaerenses, de Tierra del Fuego, de Córdoba, Tucumán, Santiago del Estero, San Luis, entre otras Provincias. Una decena de entrenadores locales provenientes del Oeste, del Este y de la región Central sumaron esfuerzo para alcanzar la meta que los capacita para desarrollar las diferentes modalidades que demanda la preparación atlética de pista y campo. El curso fue conducido por dos experimentados capacitadores de la Confederación Argentina de Atletismo, el entrerriano Sergio Alfonsini el profesor cordobés Andres Deza, ambos disertantes World Athletics. La capacitación fue organizada por la ASOCAT, con el apoyo de la Agrupación "Pedro Arias" y fue auspiciado por la Municipalidad de la Capital, la Secretaria de Deportes de la Provincia y el Ministerio de Desarrollo Social que proporcionó alojamiento para los asistentes en el Centro de Integración e Identidad Ciudadana - CIIC- donde además se realizaron algunas actividades,  en tanto otras se desarrollaron en la pista del Polideportivo Fray Mamerto Esquiu.
