Marie-Antoinette/マリー・アントワネット, "Je Mise Tout/全てを賭ける" Costume (花總まり/Hanafusa Mari) 1789 Les Amants de la Bastille Jp Toho 2016 (1/13)

Costume Notes: For this production the "Je Mise Tout" has a flower and insect motif more specifically butterfly, thus all the butterfly and flower incorporated in decorating her dress. It is also interesting to note that her wig is blonde unlike Kaname the other Marie-Antoinette 2016 actor who has a white wig base.

This was done mostly aurally, but even if it hadn't been, some parts were just so hard that there was no way I'd have gotten them right. So know this translation is far less accurate than usual.

I do love this play. After so many years thinking of it, I was starting to wonder if I hadn't imagined my appreciation but I was right. It's got a lot of wins. It's not perfect though. The resolution of the plot is so underwhelming you barely realize they've solved all the points. Still, it was worth all the hair I lost to translate this.

And of course, Ichiro, Tom, they're all wonderful. This was also Ohana's first Grand Theater as the top musumeyaku. Plus, there are some scenes all the characters would later become top stars/musumeyaku, it's impressive. And baby Touko as Fubuki's minion! So cute!

[NEWS] Sato Ryuji will Star in the "'Ohten no Mon' Stage"

STORY DESCRIPTION

Based on the manga of the same name by Haibara Yak (also known as Yakumo Izumi), the "'Ohten no Mon' Stage" tells of the adventures of the young scholar Sugawara no Michizane (Sato Ryuji) and Ariwara no Narihira (Takahashi Katsunori) as they investigate crimes in Heian Kyoto: crimes that the people of Kyoto believe are supernatural, but in reality, are just the deeds of horror perpetrated by humans.

Ryuji mentions in his update about the stage that he'll be working with Hanafusa Mari again and that it'll be the first time he's performing at the Meijiza.

The Meijiza, also known as the Meiji Theatre, is a theatre with a long history, having celebrated its 150th anniversary last year in 2023. A place where live performances, like kabuki and theatre shows, are performed, it is considered to be a milestone venue for stage actors.

With the "'Ohten no Mon' Stage" Ryuji will be performing at the Meijiza for first time. Playing the lead role of Sugawara no Michizane, it will also be the first time he's leading a stage production there.
