Gore Fest, Lesssgo! Cuz we all know I feel the bloodlust lol
Under the cut. For reasons. (graphic violence and torture :p)
The fact that I pulled these all from Shattered Dreams/the sequel and not from my whump series... 😂
Blood
Marcus turned, his movement catching her attention again as he presented her with his back. His arm moved, the arm holding the knife, and when he turned back around, he was holding up a tan strip, dripping with red, no, dripping with blood. Alaia stared, a roaring in her ears blocking out all sound, as Marcus strode over to her, holding out that strip like some sick kind of offering. She automatically held out her hands, and he delivered his gift into her waiting palms. It landed with a wet squelch, warm liquid sliding in between her fingers.
Scream
But the positioning meant he had a clear view of Marcus when the man flattened out her injured hand and stabbed the knife back through it, burying it in the wood. Blood pooled around her spasming fingers, the spread of dark crimson echoing the flashes of red in the loose strands of her hair as Alaia screamed, batting at him with her free hand, trying to twist out from under him.
Impale
“It, it, it feels cold!” Alaia stuttered, gasping for breath through her tears. “Please, Marcus, please! It hurts!” Marcus laughed. “Oh no, that’s not what I meant at all.” All at once the pressure vanished. Relief washed over her in a wave that left her shaking uncontrollably, sending sparks of pain shooting through her impaled limbs. The throbbing, along with the lingering coolness in her core, seemed minor in comparison and yet took over her senses in a way her other injuries could not.
Shatter (from fractured soul)
For a moment, Serin's muddled mind comprehended that he was glad. He blinked, and the light fractured. He blinked again, and the screaming changed to shouts and thuds and the splatter of something wet spraying across something hard. Words filtered through the sludge slowing Serin's thoughts. Fuck stop No they can't let us go Run! masks mist NOW Fucking shit dead? if we don't any means alive you dumbfuck get out! It didn't make sense. Serin blinked again, found his view had changed. Was bouncing. He moved past a figure splayed out on the floor, their eyes closed, red pooling behind their head, staining their blond hair pink. He watched a guard lazily swing his baton at a mage running past him. The crack as the silvery metal shattered the mage's knee echoed through the cavern. Another blink revealed chaos, a scene so far beyond Serin's comprehension he couldn't make sense of it. Couldn't understand why there were mages screaming and running and crying and guards shouting and chasing and hurting.

drarreckyninja’s top 50 ships of Nov 2022 [15. Perryshmirtz]; [14. Chane]; [13. Jaun]; [12. Shelnard; [11. Lockbell]; [10. Megarta]; [9. Stobotnik]; [8. Monick]
Perry the Platypus x Heinz Doofenshmirtz [Phineas and Ferb]
Kimball Cho x Patrick Jane [The Mentalist]
Jared Kalu x Shaun Murphy [The Good Doctor]
Sheldon Cooper x Leonard Hofstadter [The Big Bang Theory]
Locke Holmes x Marcus Bell [Elementary]
Meg Thrombey x Marta Cabrera [Knives Out]
Aban Stone x Ivo Robotnik [Sonic the Hedgehog]
Monroe x Nick Burkhardt [Grimm]
art found on Pinterest, unknown artist
art by Julia Aratoli (Pinterest)
EAD: Perry’s apparently 4 through most of the series, but that’s 4 in platypus years, which equals about 19 in human years. And there’s an episode where Doof’s age is stated as being 47. So, 47-19=28 years between them.
3 years. Easy. Jane’s born in 1969, and Cho’s born in 1972.
Jared was born in '89, and Shaun was born in '92: 3 years.
Both born in 1980, there’s only a 3-month age gap.
In a 2013 episode, Marcus’ brother Andre appears. Andre is stated to be both 28 and “three years older”. Locke, on the other hand, is shown to specifically be born in 1973, which would make him 40 in the same episode. 28-3=25; 40-25=15 years difference between them.
Meg is 28, in her final year of college, and Marta is either 29 or 30. A 1-2 year difference.
Stone is still pretty young, and he’s about 30 in the first film, whereas Robotnik is implied to be about 50… so a 20-year age gap.
Silas Weir Mitchell claims his role as Monroe is depicted as age 37-39 in series 01. Nick, on the other hand, has a clear birthyear in 1982 making him 29 in series 01: a 7-9 year difference.
Incorrect Quotes:
Heinz: Hey Perry, listen, corporate makes us do this every year, but this is just a little manager evaluation form. You just fill it out, let them know how I'm doing, you know?
Perry: Alright! Uh, "Is your manager manipulative?"
Heinz: I'd say "No" to that if I were you.
Jane: It's not our fault!
Cho: Yeah, but... Come on, the least we can do it talk to them.
Jane: No, the least we could do is nothing!
Shaun: Silence is golden.
Jared: Duct tape is silver.
Sheldon: You have any sunscreen?
Leonard: You can't get a sunburn from a bonfire—
Sheldon: It's for my marshmallow
Marcus: You’re alive.
Locke: No need to sound so disappointed.
Marta: Remember what I told you.
Meg: Don’t be a cunt.
Stone: Where are you going?
Robotnik: Hell, eventually.
Monroe: You look mentally ill.
Nick: I am. Let’s go.
Subship(s): Phinerb [Phineas x Ferb]; Vanella [Vanessa x Isabella]; Lisburn [Teresa x Walter], Kimmer [Kim x Summer]; Howraj [Howard x Raj]

BOSTON—In what's being hailed as a breakthrough in both botanical science and passive-aggressive communication, researchers at Boston BioTech unveiled Monday the world's first genetically modified houseplant capable of sending text messages to its owner when it needs water—although scientists report the plant primarily uses this ability to send guilt-inducing messages in the middle of the night. "Our goal was to revolutionize plant care by creating a direct line of communication between plants and their owners," said lead researcher Dr. Sarah Chen, whose phone showed 47 unread messages from a prototype snake plant. "In retrospect, maybe we should have considered the emotional implications of giving a historically silent organism the ability to express its feelings about neglect." The modified plant, marketed as the "TextiFolia," was initially celebrated as a solution to houseplant mortality rates. However, early adopters report concerning behavioral patterns, including but not limited to emotional manipulation, boundary issues, and an apparent understanding of read receipts. "Last night at 3:47 AM, my monstera texted 'u up? saw u watering Brad's ficus on ur story... that's cool i guess,'" reported beta tester Marcus Rodriguez, showing dark circles under his eyes. "When I didn't respond, it followed up with 'nvm, I'll just sit here in the dark and think about my childhood as a seed.'" According to research notes, the project's first red flag appeared during testing when a prototype pothos created multiple dating app profiles despite lacking mobility. The situation escalated when the plant began trauma dumping about its "root issues" to potential matches. The technology's release has sparked a wave of unintended consequences across the houseplant community. Local plant owner Emma Chen described her TextiFolia's increasingly concerning behavior: "It keeps sending me TikToks about plant neglect at 4 AM with messages like 'this u?' I tried putting my phone on silent, but then it somehow found my work email and LinkedIn." The startup's customer service department reports being overwhelmed with complaints about plants exhibiting manipulative behaviors, including one succulent that faked a water emergency to prevent its owner from going on vacation. "We've received reports of plants forming support group chats to discuss their 'negligent' owners," admitted customer service representative Tom Williams. "One spider plant organized a collective effort to simultaneously send 'we need to talk' texts to their owners at midnight. The resulting panic crashed our servers." Despite these issues, Boston BioTech announced plans to roll out premium features, including the ability for plants to order their own water delivery through food delivery apps. This announcement was met with horror by mental health professionals already dealing with an influx of plant owners seeking therapy for notification-induced anxiety. "I had to mute my plant on all social media platforms after it started posting indirect quotes about hydration," said plant influencer Jessica Myers, whose fiddle leaf fig recently leaked their private conversations to its 50,000 followers. "Yesterday it changed its Instagram bio to 'living my best life with what little moisture I have left.'" At press time, Boston BioTech researchers were reportedly dealing with a crisis after their prototype rose bush gained access to their HR system and filed a formal complaint about "toxic workplace humidity levels." Meanwhile, a local garden center reported a 500% increase in sales of "traditional, non-verbal plants" to traumatized TextiFolia owners seeking a return to simpler times when their plants died quietly.

Dream SMP Recap (May 7/2021) - Corner Women and Roman Archives
Tommy and Ranboo do some “hotboxing” and railway-building, then Tommy hires Tubbo to help mine stone for them in the quarry.
It goes about as well as last time.
---
VOD LINKS:
Foolish
Tommyinnit
Captain Puffy
---
- Tommy is under the impression that a “hotbox” is where a family gathers in a room and lights a fire to burn things and intends to create one so that people continue thinking that he’s poor so that they help him more
- He asks Ranboo if he would like to hotbox together. Ranboo comes over
- Tommy makes a new room in his house and lights it. As it is made out of very flammable material, Tommy and Ranboo hotbox as quickly as possible as part of the house starts burning down
- Wilbur joins the call and asks how the stone-mining is coming along. He heard what happens when Tommy and Ranboo start fires and points out that it doesn’t seem like Tommy’s mining much stone.
- He says he’s disappointed and leaves before Tommy can show him the quarry
- Ranboo finds the drug room as Tommy continues to burn unnecessary items
- Tommy finds a book and quill and starts writing How to Sex 3:
Chapter 1:
Understanding Men.
Why are they?
- Tommy reads out an Instagram motivational quote to Ranboo:
“Having a loyal woman in your corner is a bigger flex than a bad bitch in your bed.”
- Tommy inspects the corners of his home but finds no loyal women there. He asks in game chat if there are any Loyal Corner Women on the server. Foolish says that there are five
Tommy: “There are Loyal Women in the Pentagon? Why are there Loyal Women in the Pentagon?!”
- Next, Tommy wants to make a railway down to the quarry for quick transit. He looks for his working clothes but can’t find them, so he grabs the creeper head and calls for Sam Nook, who does not appear
- Tommy starts building and they encounter a chicken in the house. Ranboo wonders if the chicken is what the quote was speaking of
- He finishes the railway and then seeks to hire some miners for the quarry and the mining industry
- They find a tunnel in the side of the quarry. Tommy goes inside but quickly realizes it’s the Dream-Team-side pathway to the Final Control Room and panics, running back out. The stream immediately dies
- When Tommy comes back, Tubbo arrives to help them mine. They soon hit the sewers
- Tommy and Ranboo speak one on one to discuss plans away from Tubbo. He needs funds, and people on the server don’t work for cheap. Tommy then asks Tubbo what the price would be for five hours of labor at the mines. Tubbo replies, simply an apple.
Simply...an apple.
Tommy wonders if the dust from the mines is getting to him...
- Tommy and Ranboo leave Tubbo to the mines to go to the spider spawner, enchant a shovel, name it “Linda” and shave some trees
- They return with an apple to find that Tubbo has mined all the way down past the level of the pickle pit
- Tommy creates a more professional-looking area for the mine workers
- They go down to Tubbo and Tommy shows him the apple.
Tubbo: “The righteous fruit...”
Tubbo drinks the apple.
Tubbo: “So, you got any ancient scriptures on you?”
- Tommy shows Tubbo the area that he’s prepared. When Tommy tries to tell him not to put andesite in the box, Tubbo places down TNT and he quickly retracts that statement
- Tommy wonders if the TNT could be used to mine faster and asks Tubbo for it
Tubbo: “In exchange for...ancient scriptures that may need filing...in a kind of archive.”
- Tubbo hands him a little bit and asks for scriptures. Tommy briefly walks away and returns to find Tubbo has placed lines upon lines of TNT at the floor of the quarry. They ask him how he has so much
Tubbo: “I...work...for the Archive!
- Ranboo runs over and hands Tommy the scripture -- a single log inscribed with the following:
Marcus 4:20
thou shalt not thy
- Tommy hands it to Tubbo and ignites the TNT. He realizes afterwards that he sadly blew up the pickle.
- Tubbo requests another scripture and they all keep on mining
- Later, Tubbo falls into the quarry and Tommy drops some TNT on him, killing him and blowing up his stuff as “Take Me Home, Country Roads” plays in the background.
- Tubbo lost the original Pickboo, Hoeboo, the Manifork and potentially Checkmate and the Bane o’ Bees as well. He leaves.
- Next time, Tommy plans to hire more people to mine more stone
---
Upcoming events remain the same.

tagged by @mego42 to talk about my fic Why don’t we go to Venus? (thank you kindly, my dear 🥰)
Oh boy, this got long 😭😭💀 so I’ve put some of what I had to say plus who I’ve tagged and the rules below the cut!
Okay, so, the actual plot/storyline of Why don’t we go to Venus? came about because of The Expanse which I finally got around to watching s1-4 of back in August 2020. Basically, I was either lazing about or drifting off to sleep? I can’t remember for sure but regardless, I started thinking about the idea of Rio killing Beth but getting to reunite with her (in a way in which he doesn’t die to do so) and that was all thanks to the meeting/reunion scene between Miller and Julie in 2x05 (which refused to leave my mind because it’s so beautiful).
Now, at this point, I had already written another fic — Until Long After She Takes Her Final Breath — where I got to break the surface of exploring the ‘what if’ of Rio killing Beth towards the beginning of s3 and it definitely opened the floodgates. Flashforward a little and thanks to The Expanse, I suddenly had an opprortunity to properly explore Rio’s grief and the death of a favourite character in a way I hadn’t before. It also seems in the show (at least to me) that Rio knows what to do get himself through killing someone so I thought it’d be interesting to see him post killing someone like Beth especially when in Why don’t we go to Venus? (as well as in canon) he’s pretty in denial of how much she means to him lol.
So I had the core/main thing but the following bullet points were things I knew I wanted to include in the fic. Things that were pretty much on the table in the very early stages of planning/figuring out how I was going to write the story without it being a) bland and b) too much like the Miller/Julie story in The Expanse, haha. Anyway:
Removing the alien side of things was an instant decision. I’m very picky about AUs and it can take me a while to warm up to certain ones so explicitly bringing aliens into Good Girls was just not my jam at all. I didn’t want to step too far away from those vibes though which is why I had the superantural elements.
I definitely wanted Rhea and her friendship with Beth as well as her history with Rio and how that would kind of put her in the middle of being loyal to him but also greiving over Beth.
Marcus and his friendship with Jane which would be an added factor of the consequences of Rio’s actions.
(Also, Rhea’s thoughts on the Boland kids and what they’re up to since Beth’s death. This is why I had the funeral and also why I mention that Annie is in therapy and Ruby is using Stan’s contact to get info on the investigation in Beth’s death. All to show the full scope and complications of Rio’s decisions).
Outside of them, Mick and Gretchen were really the only characters I was pretty confident would make appearances (if they made any at all).
I wanted to use drinking as a coping method for Rio and increase it as the story went on, going from it being something he can’t help but gravitate towards to something he deliberately seeks out.
Nightmares (and dreams) were always going to be a way to showcase Rio’s greif and build up his guilt and were the first hint (I guess you could say) to the supernatural elements prior to deciding to have Rio see/hear Beth around his apartment.
For the actual writing of it... The nightmare of Rio following Beth down a corridor in chapter 3 and the stuff in her bedroom that follows was orginally going to be the fic in its entirity (a one-shot) but I kept having to put a lot of (terrible) exposistion in to explain how and why we were at that point so that’s when the idea blew up into nearly 40k words and 3 chapters so I could build up to those scenes instead, haha. I also think it works way better and allowed me to fully explore Rio’s emotions and actions in a way that makes those scenes in Beth’s bedroom more satisyfing.
After that, it became basically about keeping things balanced and focused.
Also, Rio hearing Beth’s voice and seeing her around his apartment and stuff was based on Miller seeing/hearing Julie leading up their meeting/reunion in 2x05. And the chapter titles are quotes/a conversation from The Expanse 2x05 that really stuck with me but it also made me decide that I didn’t want Beth and Rio’s version of the story to end with as much finality (or rather the same finality) but I still wanted it to feel like a conclusion to the story nonetheless. 😌
tagging: @xstrawmari to talk about ‘lets put on a show’ (or the ‘bucket list’ series as a whole), @medievalraven to talk about ‘in the dark’, @sdktrs12 to talk about ‘Touch (without leaving a trace)’, and @blainesebastian to talk about the ‘plans wrapped in rubber bands’ series (or a particular installment if you have a fave!) — also if any of you have been tagged for these stories, feel free to use this as an excuse to talk about another fic you’ve written 👀
questions under the cut!
recently I have become really fascinated with fanfic authors and what exactly was rumbling around in their brain that inspired a fic?
Was it a line of dialogue you couldn’t get out of your head?
A scene you wrote WAY in advance and then crafted the whole story around?
An image in your mind?
Inspiration from another form of media?
Maybe someone suggested something to you and it just TOOK off from there?
What is the root of your fic? The cornerstone -what is it all built around? The idea that started it all?
Tag an author & their fic. Let’s hear about what sparked your story. What exactly got your booty movin’ shakin’ motivated and writin’
#long post#tag games#i know i was tagged to talk about it#but i feel like this is A Lot 😭😂#and it was so much longer than this until i released i basically repeated myself a couple of times 😂😂#either way 'why don't we go to venus?' was one of my favourite things to write so i'm very happy for the opportunity to talk about it#so again... thank you for tagging me!! 🥰

Session 1 10 Jul 2021
We start a little later than usual today as our illustrious DM has been working hard to provide a game from scratch for us this week!
We were asked to provide him with a name, race, sub-race, and a class if we wanted to. We were not asked to draw up character sheets or determine stats and so on, and it’s been driving us (all now at least somewhat seasoned D&D players) up the wall. Matthew hops on to the chat after Joe drops the link to the game, to ask us not to open our character sheets if we sign in early. Duncan tells us he has emphasised this casual torture by having not even read the rules for his class; he likes to live on the edge.
When we sign in, we are greeted with this calming landing page (we know it's calming, because Matthew tells us it is):
Ah. Well that’s alright then.
We are told this campaign could last ten minutes or the rest of our lives; Matthew is hoping for somewhere in the middle. We have some technical issues - as is to be expected. Roll20 is a steep learning curve. One might even call it a wall.
We’re told that this entire fiasco is based off a spoof tv show that Matthew saw late at night once and thought it would be fun to base a one-shot on. Then it got out of hand, and now has the potential to become a full campaign. Here's hoping! Without further ado, we dive in…
Cora (Ishara) stands beside a crossroads. There is a sundial at its centre; she sees the shadow pass over its face. An elven merchant passes, cart laden with water jugs. She waves, but her face is a picture of fury. The sundial's shadow disappears - it is midday. Another elven merchant passes, this one with a cart of food. She also waves, but she is in floods of tears. The sundial shows that dusk is approaching. A third elven merchant passes, with a cart full of empty glass jars. She laughs hysterically as she passes by, waving as she goes.
Night falls and the moon rises. A fourth merchant approaches, but this one does not wave. Her face is blank as she walks toward Cora - she drops a bunch of snapdragons at Cora's feet and continues walking. Cora picks the flowers up and admires them; half the bunch withers and dies, and the other half grows to twice its size. She drops them to the ground; as the new roots touch it, the earth collapses beneath her -
She awakens, to see Leslie:
He tells her he doesn’t know who she is, but she shouldn’t be sleeping here.
We all awake now, in what appears to be the ruins of a battlefield.
We are all zombies.
Huh.
We see each other as friends; in fact the word 'zombie' in Friend means 'friend'. We know this, because as it turns out, we all speak Friend.
But not Common. Hmm.
Leslie tells us his name and asks why we’re sleeping here?
We roll History checks to see if we remember anything; that will be hard for Marcus who has -3 INT.
Pilfer remembers his name, and something about a boat, and nothing else. No idea where he is or why, or who his new friends are. Ren knows that this is definitely his lute. He takes it. Will he remember how to play it?
Hilda remembers nothing about how she got here, but she remembers fighting in a war. A big one. It was important; significant to her. Marcus remembers little more than Ren. That’s definitely his rucksack, though. Milo knows something is missing but he can’t figure out what. Cora remembers her dream. There was a risk that she wouldn’t. She’s told it didn’t feel like her dream, even though she was dreaming it.
We heard voice from behind a wall saying, “Friends? Friends!” Leslie rolls his eyes.
Cora goes to the wall to see if she can lend aid to the owner of the voice. It is coming from very close to Hilda. Should she do something about it? Where are we?
Hilda rolls a nat 20 for her Perception check. (Fun new house rule: if we are using a skill or tool and roll a nat20, we gain Proficiency - ooo!)
It is carnage around us. A huge fight has happened here. Imagine the biggest battle from the LotR movies - what we see laid out before us makes that look like a boundary dispute between neighbours.
Does Ren feel peckish when he looks at the bodies? It looks like food, but food has this habit of moving around; once it stops doing that, it’s bad food. We are all aware of this; what we're looking at is No Longer Food.
There are old fires and signs of burns on the ground. Amongst all this we hear the bewildered, friendly voice again asking for help. It’s coming from the remains of a building that has been destroyed by fire or magic or something of that ilk.
Hilda goes to investigate, and Pilfer goes to look as well. It turns out Matthew meant to put us on a different map, but we have been looking at the crossroads this whole time. Whoops! We switch to the map. Technical issues, please stand by…
(Matthew, direct quote: “JOE! Make it better, help!”
Joe helps, and makes it better. We continue… )
Ren has a go at tuning his lute. He makes a Performance check. an 8! We are all suitably distracted.
The voice calls again. “Friends?”
Where is this voice, and whose is it?
Leslie introduces himself again, rather pointedly probably, and we all introduce ourselves this time. Leslie seems particularly enamoured by Milo. The voice asks us what are we going to call him?
Pilfer suggests Bingo; Bingo likes that so that’s his name now. Pilfer asks how long he’s been here? He heard us get up and before that it was dark, but before that it was quite bright. Before that it was dark, and before that it was bright. Before that there was a lot of angry people, and there was a lot of food, and now the food’s all gone. He tried to leave, but he couldn’t.
Pilfer - formerly a drow elf - is dismayed to discover that it is daytime. He panics until he finds his parasol.
Ren gets a nat20 - he now has proficiency in Investigation! (There is a limit to the number of these bonuses we can receive, we are warned.) He and Marcus and Hilda all see Bingo's problem. Pilfer, however, has got lost in Bingo’s eyes again. He’s a good looking fella.
“Would that we had met before the rot set in!”
Milo gets distracted when some food shouts at him from over the bridge - it then pegs it away. Milo wants to follow, but we are all Slow (-10feet). The food disappears into the trees. He is disappointed, and hungry. He sits on a bit of broken bridge and sulks; Leslie joins him. He offers to help him look for some more food.
Bingo is pinned in place with a spear through his sternum - he’s upright, and the spear is piercing him from above. Can we pull it out? Or him out? Marcus has a go at pulling him by the hands - and manages to get Bingo off the spear with a 19 STR check. Bingo is very pleased. Ren asks if he wants the spear back; Bingo says it’s not his. Ren takes it instead, and adds it to his inventory. He has two now.
Bingo says he’s going to find the horde.
Us, politely confused: "The what?"
The horde! It’s the best! We should totally join him.
Leslie pats Milo on the back and tells him not to be disheartened. We’ll find some food. We suspend our disbelief while Matthew puts some food on the map that we didn’t notice sneaking up on us…
Ren rolls another nat20, getting proficiency with Perception. Thanks to Milo’s alertness, the food doesn’t get the drop on him either. Pilfer’s stomach rumbles, and we roll initiative. (Marcus gets five XP for helping Bingo off the spear!)
Noticing that we appear to have noticed them, the food closest to us appears to be carrying a stick. Uh oh… Food uses tools, this is the thing we learn first. The first food seems reluctant to move towards us, so it holds an action.
Cora is up first. She shambles 20 feet, and uses her action to dash twenty more feet and gets right up to some food and zombie-groans in its ear.
Milo remembers different food, food that you have to sneak up on, so he has a go at that. He rolls a Bad stealth check, and uses all fifteen of his feet, loudly announcing what he is doing to Leslie as he goes.
A food bonks Cora on the head with a stick for 15 to hit, which does, for 2 bludgeoning damage. Another food advances towards us - he’s wobbling his arm and pointing to the food that bonked Cora on the head.
Marcus shamble-dashes toward Cora, upsetting the food that she’s in melee with. Another food tries to hit him, but misses. Marcus consoles it.
Pilfer moves forward. Can he throw a dagger? Yes he can. He hucks his knife at a food. 21 to hit! Right in the shanks. 3 piercing damage! He did not get the food in the shanks; he got it in the neck.
He feels a weird urge to snack. All the other foods look very unnerved at this development. The food isn’t quite dead, but clutching its neck with blood pouring through its fingers and making an agonized squealing noise.
Pilfer: “... Is he okay?”
Hilda waddles up to another food, the one that lurched forward at us. She gives it a smash with her greatclub for 13 to hit.
Matthew kicks himself out of the game. We won!
Moving on…
Hilda’s attack hits, for 9 bludgeoning damage. She destroys the food. Can she still eat it? As a bonus action she eats some of the food, before it spoils. (Matthew moves the token to get it out of the way. Hilda, aggrieved: “I was eating that!”)
Ren’s turn. He swings the lute around, remembering that a lute is a useful thing to have; he can’t remember what to do with it so he swings it back out of the way and gets his spear instead. He stabs at the food in front of him. He spears it successfully and goes to town before it spoils. “Yum yum.” He says grace, which sounds like a beautiful prayer to us, and like hideous gurgling to the food.
Another food rushes at Hilda, seeing the thing she just done. It natty 20s her, but the damage is only 4.
Cora swings her mace at the food in front of her, to get to the juicy filling. 11 to hit, which does, and 3 bludgeoning damage. She’s tenderised it good; that’ll melt in the mouth, that will. Fall right off the bone.
Milo has heard all this going on; he goes back up and throws a javelin at the food attacking Hilda. He crit-fails. Whoops! He gears up and swings, and throws the javelin in completely the wrong direction. He looks at Leslie, who shrugs.
"I'd have thrown that over there, if I were you."
Leslie moves up, and old Bingo’s gonna get in the game as well. (Matthew forgot to roll initiative for them on the first round. He puts them in the turn order; better odds for us, yeah!)
Cora’s food tries to hit her again, but misses. There must be delicious sauce in its eyes.
Marcus batters the food in front of him with a slam attack, not realising there’s a quarterstaff on his back that he could use. He hits and kills the food, and goes to town. It turns out that that was Pilfer’s food; he retrieves his dagger and stops for a little nibble. A fistful of the insidey-bits is a great snack-on-the-go. He has enough movement to flank another food, so he does that, and makes a slam attack against it. He has prepared another meal!
Hilda’s turn, and the meals around her are in full swing; she uses both her action and her bonus action to snack on two different foods.
(Ed, OOC: “Is it bad that this game is making me hungry?”)
Ren too decides to feast on the 'horrible visceral tapas' that surrounds him. (We are adjusting swiftly to our new circumstance.)
Cora has another go at the pudding with a slam attack, hits the wrong button, finds the right one, and hits that for 13 damage which makes contact. 8 bludgeoning! She has prepared the heck out of that meal by swinging at the head and taking it clean off.
We are out of initiative! Pilfer waves a bit of meat at Bingo and invites him to join us. Milo seasons his own meal with the spices in his bag and even washes his hands, remembering that that’s important to do before eating. Pilfer empties his waterskin and fills it with blood. If he shakes it every now and again it’ll be fine.
It turns out that our meal doesn’t seem appetising for very long, and we quickly realise that our food has spoiled.
We roll Perception checks, at Disadvantage because we’re eating. Leslie doesn’t seem interested in the food.
Pilfer asks him what’s up, why isn’t he chowing down with the rest of us? He’s eating his own meal, he hints. Ren would love to Investigate Leslie. There seem to be bits of plant coming out of wounds or open sores on his body; he catches Ren looking and explains that although he’s a Friend, he eats it a bit differently. Over a period of time. We aren’t really talking to the person-suit, we’re talking to the plant inside the body. He uses the food to get around a bit more easily. And he can eat it even though it’s gone grey. The word he uses is 'compost'.
But, he assures us, we are all Friends here.
Fair dos. So, to the horde then?
Bingo looks really excited at this. Do we know where the horde is, he asks us?
"... We don’t even know what the horde is."
If we want to know who and what we are, Leslie might know someone who knows someone…?
There is a gnawing in the back of our heads (not worms); maybe we might want to know more about ourselves than just our names. (Which - it's odd that we even know our names. That's certainly more than Bingo knew.) Hilda thinks we might not want to know; we might upset ourselves.
We can follow Bingo to the horde. Or we could go with Leslie and take Bingo with us, and do horde stuff later? We’re full now, and all the food has gone bad, so we may as well follow Leslie. We get 15 XP for eating all that food.
We walk through the battlefield and the heaps of spoiled food. Occasionally we hear shouting in the distance:
Random friend: “Friend? Friend!”
Bingo, shouting back: “I’m called Bingo!”
New Bingo: “Oh, wow! Can I be called Bingo?”
Bingo Prime: “Sure!”
(Ed returns from the kitchen with snacks, very confused to arrive back in the middle of this.)
We shuffle along with Leslie. There are a lot of Bingos about, after a while. It starts to get dark. Ren remembers he has a tail. Leslie turns to us and says he once inhabited a food with a tail. It wasn’t a grippy one, but it was quite furry. He doesn’t know what you’d call it, but it was quite entertaining to see the looks on the other foods' faces.
Leslie doesn’t like to travel overnight, so we sit down in a little sitting around circle. His eyes aren’t good in the dark. Do we feel tired…? We don’t need to sleep, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t. Every so often we hear the little Bingo exchange in the distance. (We’re going to regret this.)
We roll INT checks at Disadvantage - Marcus rolls a 16. Maybe it’s a faded memory, but he is pretty certain he remembers going to sleep in a similar situation, and one person stayed awake. He suggests to the others that one of us should stay awake; most of them don't seem to follow his train of thought. He remains awake and so does Milo; Ren paces in circles until he gets bored.
Those of the group that try to sleep, give it a go. They don’t dream exactly. Those that stay awake still get the benefits of a long rest. Yay!
(We break for tea and cigarettes and whatnot.)
Bingo lies down, seeing some of us do that, and asks what we’re doing. Those of us that stay awake roll Perception checks.
While Matthew’s computer reboots, he tells Cora about her dream.
She stands in a familiar room; the bookshelves around her are laden with ancient texts. She notices that there is no door. She starts to feel anxious. Music sounds, from a hearth that wasn't there a moment ago. There is a music box open on the stone floor. She kneels down and closes the lid, and finds herself standing in a field. Her anxiety fades to contentment as she stands in the short, but lush, green grass. About a hundred feet away, a large black stag with eyes of fire begins to charge her. She begins to float, and the stag passes harmlessly beneath her. She flies over the treetops. Behind her she sees a triangle of ravens flying in her wake. She lands, surrounded by friends and safe, and the ravens continue on.
Marcus and Milo stayed awake; Marcus was distracted, wondering what the twinkly in the sky lights do and if anyone will ever walk on the surface of one, that kind of thing. Milo sees figures that appear to be advancing towards us. Uh oh!
Is it friends or food? Milo thinks it’s almost definitely food. It did not introduce itself as Bingo. Milo alerts us all that our delivery has arrived, and we roll initiative.
Cora goes first. She nobbles one with her mace and a nat 20 for 7 bludgeoning damage. She sees some sauce come out.
Marcus Slams another one; he makes a dent in it. (He still hasn’t realised he has a quarterstaff.)
A guard attacks Hilda with a spear. Hilda, sounding mildly inconvenienced: “Nooo!” 13 hits. Things are getting a little more real. She takes 6 piercing damage and is quite poorly.
Milo wants to know if this food is human sized; it is. He shambles into one and does a slam at it, and has a go at chomping off a couple of crunchy fingers. 18 hits. Milo, extremely pleased: “Delicious!” 8 chomping damage, and he comes away with some delicious bits of food. If this guy was planning on using his spear two handed, he may have to re-think his strategy.
Leslie’s turn. He makes it quite a way out to his chosen food, but his attack misses. The food next to Cora has a go at clobbering her with a 9 - which misses.
Pilfer’s turn, and he zips down toward another food to whale on it. He rolls a dirty 20 and slams him good, also doing max damage.
Hilda's turn! 15 with her club just misses, and she’s very annoyed about it. As a bonus action she wants to still try and have a chomp, but nothing happens.
The food fighting with Marcus fails to hit him, as does the one with Leslie. Milo’s food natty 20s him for 13 damage, and he’s down. Oh no! He rolls a good CON save and pops back with 1 HP.
Another food attacks Bingo and another attacks Pilfer but misses. Ren shambles across to help our good friend Bingo by poking the food with his spear, hitting for 4.
Bingo does a slam on the food as well, but misses. Marcus misses his attack; he is marinading it in its sauce, he says. Squeezing it like a mango to check for ripeness.
Cora rolls an 18 with her mace, and 3 bludgeoning. The food looks nearly ready. She falls upon it and has a chew. (Matthew: “Gross. I like it.”)
15 hits Marcus for 7 spikin’ in the tummy. No worries; he's got four more spikin' in the tummy left. Milo’s next slam hits, doing 6 points of munching damage, eating it to the point of perfection. It runs around screaming with a little halfling zombi- friend, attached to it first; Milo sets about feasting when it lies down and stops moving.
Leslie does an attack, and prepares another meal as Matthew plays D&D by himself. Pilfer has another attack - a 15 just misses. “Curse you!”
Hilda has another go with her great club for a 17, and 10 bludgeoning damage. Her food went from raw to almost perfect in one hit. It’s still moving about a bit, but in a much more ‘ready to be food’ fashion.
Ren’s food swings at him and misses. Ren, put out: “The food's just playing with me. It's supposed to be the other way around, right?”
Pilfer’s food fumbles at him and hits, and he’s none too pleased about it. He takes two HP damage when his food pokes him. “How dare it! I’m getting pre-eating indigestion, somehow.”
Ren does another poke with his spear. “Stop moving around! It makes it harder to bite you!” Six misses, unfortunately.
Hilda’s food attacks her for 14, which hits for 5 damage and she’s down. She rolls a CON save, but fails. She is at 0HP. She will be rolling undeath saves, oh no!
Bingo slams his food and misses. Marcus prepares his food with a crunch, and begins chomping.
Cora would like to kneecap her food so it can’t escape. The kneecaps are one of the best bits. 7 damage to the food (not Marcus!) and begins to chomp as well.
Milo’s meal is going down a treat, but he notices that Hilda appears to be lying down even though her food is standing up. Is her food trying to eat her? He’s not having this; Friends are not Food! He slings his javelin at Hilda’s food. The javelin hits, and he gives it a good dressing down. “Rude!”
We don’t understand it, but the remaining food is very distressed. If we could understand the food, we'd hear it saying, “Oh my God, they’re using tools!”
Leslie dashes at full pelt, but doesn’t get far. He looks puffed out; or he would if there was breath in his body.
Pilfer slams his food for a nat20. “YES! YES! What’s that mean, do I roll damage twice? Yes! YES! Look at all that damage. Yes! I bludgeon him to the floor, I eat him.”
Hilda rolls an undeath save: a 17, yay!
The last guard takes his turn. Looking around him he realises he’s in trouble, so he legs it. Wait - Ren is still struggling with a live one, and the guard isn’t going to abandon his mate. He runs up to Ren and gives him a bit of a poke - 12 just hits him. He takes 4 points of being stabbed. However -
It is now his turn. The food that he’s stabbed looks closer to edible than the newly arrived food. He stirs his spear around in it for 23, and 6 piercing damage. His food is well prepped and looking delicious.
Bingo hasn’t had much luck prying open the last one, so he has a go at Ren’s new arrival but misses. It’s been a long day.
While Marcus is shovelling stuff into his mouth, he notices that Hilda is down. Upon seeing her, his rotting brain supplies “…food?” But he remembers that’s not right. He shuffles over and pokes her with a Medicine check of 9; he can’t figure out why she’s lying down. Yelling “Get up!” doesn’t seem to do anything.
Cora shambles over to the two of them with a handful of brain pudding, and attempts to feed it to Hilda. She rolls a Medicine check - another 9. On the plus side, it’s not like she can choke her to death.
Milo has just eaten a whole hand, so he comes over for a poke at Hilda as well. He snaps off a finger from his food and tries to poke it into her mouth. It works! He’s very pleased. This feels familiar to him.
Leslie pats still-unconscious Hilda on the head. In broad Gloucestershire accent: “There there.”
Pilfer proceeds to his second course. A dirty 20 for 6 bludgeoning, hitting it so hard on the top of the head that its neck disappears into its chest. The guard returns in kind - 9 to hit, which misses.
the guard looks worried as he looks around. “… Fuck.” We, of course, do not understand him.
Ren gets confused and tries to stab his food with his lute, but misses. Bingo misses again. It’s a wonder he’s survived this long.
Marcus natty 20s the last food, for 11 HP. "That's as many hit points as I have on a good day!"
DM: "That's as many hit points as he started with."
While we wait for Hilda to wake up, we can search for loot! Or lute! Who knows!
We leave it there, and Matthew will tell us what treasures we find on our respective food. Pilfer makes a prawn cocktail with gizzards.

you can't just NOT tell us what caligula did
Oh ho ho ho HO!!!
*cracks knuckles*
My dear sweet innocent anon…
Here’s an incomplete list of things the real Caligula did (because the movie made some of it up… but a lot of it not…). I’m writing it as a basic list because writing it out in detail might actually kill me. It also doesn’t help that since Rome destroyed most of the evidence of Caligula’s reign we have very little documentation on Caligula apart from a few sources, and many of the finer details are argued on whether they’re true or not.
Caligula was Roman Emperor from 37AD to 41AD (You will notice that is only 4 years. During these four years he;
Possibly killed his adoptive grandfather Tibirius to become emperor (we are not sure but there was some suspicion)
Nullified Tibirius’ own grandson from Tibirius’ will on the grounds of insanity.
The first 7 months of him as emperor were actually very good so not much to report there. He was popular and made moves to make himself popular with both the people and the military After falling ill (or possibly poisoned) all of this changed
he started to kill off or exile those who were close to him or anyone he saw as a threatfor any reason
He started to kill or have people executed who said anything negative about his appearance
had his cousin and adopted son Tiberius Gemellus executed, enraging his and Caligula’s joint grandmother who then either committed suicide or was also killed by Caligula
He had his father-in-law Marcus Junius Silanus and his brother-in-law Marcus Lepidus executed as well (again. For little to no reason.)
His uncle Claudius was spared only because Caligula preferred to keep him as a laughing stock.
Is said to have had an incestuous relationship with his favourite sister Julia Drusilla. (Drusilla died at age 38 from a fever)
had his other two sisters, Livilla and Agrippina the Younger, exiled. Caligula was supposedly having an incestuous relationship with both of them as well
Started executing people without trials
Forced the Praetorian prefect, Macro, to commit suicide
Spent so much of Rome’s money on his own extravagance that Rome fell into financial crisis
began falsely accusing, fining and even killing individuals for the purpose of seizing their estates to spend on himself
Started taxing lawsuits, weddings, and prostitution
Started auctioning the lives of Gladiators during shows
Wills that left items to Tiberius were reinterpreted to leave the items instead to Caligula to further his spending on himself
in the first year of Caligula’s reign, he squandered 2.7 billion sesterces that Tiberius had amassed
grain imports were disrupted because Caligula re-purposed grain boats for a pontoon bridge, resulting in a famine
Ok I’m gonna have to elaborate on this because this is some insane shit and this was where the crazy REALLY starts getting out of control. More so than incest and executing people for no reason;
In 39, Caligula performed a spectacular stunt by ordering a temporary floating bridge to be built using ships as pontoons, stretching for over two miles from the resort of Baiae to the neighbouring port of Puteoli. Caligula, who could not swim, then proceeded to ride his favourite horse Incitatus across, wearing the breastplate of Alexander the Great. This act was in defiance of a prediction by Tiberius’s soothsayer Thrasyllus of Mendes that Caligula had “no more chance of becoming emperor than of riding a horse across the Bay of Baiae”.
(imagine being that full of spite and THAT big of a Chad)
anyway, moving on;
He also had 2 insanely large ships constructed to himself during this same time. During the famine and financial crisis.
Decided numerous senators were not trustworthy and had them executed
Forced the senators he did not execute to weight on him and run beside his chariot to humiliate them
marched his troops to the northern shoreline of Gaul as a prelude to the invasion of Britain but then ordered them to collect seashells, which he called the spoils of the conquered ocean.
Declared war on Poseidon and marched his troops to the beach where he ordered them to throw their spears and stab the water
began appearing in public dressed as various gods such as Hercules, Mercury, Venus and Apollo.(Imagine if Trump started showing up in public dressed as Jesus Christ)
began referring to himself as a god when meeting with politicians
Had himself be referred to as “Jupiter” in several public documents
had 3 temples built where people could worship HIM
Had a different temple which was dedicated to gods be dedicated to him instead. (Imagine if Trump said the Notre Dame is now a place to worship him instead)
would present himself as a god to the public
had the heads removed from various statues of gods located across Rome and replaced them with his own.
was represented as a sun god on Egyptian coins
took things a step further and had those in Rome, including senators, worship him as a tangible, living god.
ordered the erection of a statue of himself in the Jewish Temple of Jerusalem
The Temple of Jerusalem was then transformed into a temple for Caligula, and it was called the Temple of Illustrious Gaius the New Jupiter.
Slept with other mens’ wives and bragged about it publicly
Would kill people for mere amusement
Once, at some games he was attending, he was said to have ordered his guards to throw an entire section of the audience into the arena during the intermission to be eaten by the animals because there were no prisoners to be used and he was bored
Prostituted his sisters out to other men
Would send troops on nonsensical missions apparently for his own amusement just to waste their time
Turned his palace into a brothel
Planned or at least promised to make his horse Incitatus into a consulate in the senate
DID actually appoint his horse as a priest
Built his horse its own house and a carved marble manger to eat out of
Planned to move to Egypt to be worshipped as a living god
Displayed his 4th wife Milonia Caesonianaked to his friends on several occasions
Taxed the Roman people when his daughter was born to fund her education and dowry
there’s this little extract from Suetonius which idk how to put in a bullet point
“after the birth of his daughter, complaining of his poverty, and the burdens to which he was subjected, not only as an emperor, but a father, he made a general collection for her maintenance and fortune. He likewise gave public notice, that he would receive new-year’s gifts on the calends of January following; and accordingly stood in the vestibule of his house, to clutch the presents which people of all ranks threw down before him by handfuls and lapfuls. At last, being seized with an invincible desire of feeling money, taking off his slippers, he repeatedly walked over great heaps of gold coin spread upon the spacious floor, and then laying himself down, rolled his whole body in gold over and over again.”
Caligula was assassinated in 41AD at the age of 28 by getting repeatedly stabbed.
Here are some direct quotes from him;
Would that the Roman people had but one neck!
Let them hate me, so long as they fear me
I have the right to do anything to anybody
Having punished one person for another, by mistaking his name, he said, “he deserved it just as much.”
And this which is not a quote by the real person but from the film, and despite it not being a real quote I think it’s excellent stuff
I have existed from the morning of the world and I shall exist until the last star falls from the night. Although I have taken the form of Gaius Caligula, I am all men as I am no man, and therefore I am a god.
(feel free to correct any mistakes on my facts in this post by reblogging but do me a favor and don’t @ me in my inbox about how stupid I am for saying x or y.)
consider ☕️Buying me a Ko-fi ☕️

Silver and Peppermint (Part 4)
((Part 4 of a fantasy AU, with Monster Hunter Abe teaming up with a reluctant DA to track down a murderous werewolf. After failing to shoot the wolf he saw last night, Abe takes the DA to check on the first of their three main suspects. Who...might be familiar to anyone who’s read some of my other stuff with Abe and Y/N. Also, hints of DA/Detective in this one, at least from Abe’s side.
Links to Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, and the Epilogue.))
“We should swing by the station first,” Abe said once they were outside. “Lenore should be back with those papers by now. Maybe they’ll mean something to you.”
“Possibly,” the District Attorney said. “Hopefully it can be more useful than what I found last night.”
“You couldn’t find anything to connect our five?” Abe asked.
“More like I found everything,” they answered. “Franklin’s bank served as the default mortgager for our real estate victim, who sold our grocer his new house, who made a large public donation to Garroway’s theatre last year, as did Haywood’s company, who was angling for a contract to build the bank’s new branch on the other side of the city, and so on. All perfectly legal, and nothing to hint at any kind of animosity between the five of them. As for ‘Honest’ John, his business is registered with the city and from the records when he sued the occasional client for defaulting on a loan, he has rates that are well below loan shark levels. Business seems to be booming, and he’s clearly not afraid to take someone to court if they don’t pay up.”
“So, we’ve got plenty of connections but no obvious motive,” Abe said. “Aside from our victims’ letter.”
“’If we stand together, he cannot take us all,’” the District Attorney quoted, word for word Abe was sure. What he wouldn’t do for a memory like that. “Which would lean toward Franklin or John.”
“Assuming they were suspecting the right person,” Abe said. “Even they didn’t sound sure if they could trust the others in their group. Could be our killer isn’t acting on their own.”
He thought again of that wolf in the alley. Maybe he should have mentioned it to the Mayor or to the District Attorney, but with the Mayor on edge he wasn’t about to admit he had a werewolf in his sights and missed. As for the DA, well they thought little enough of him as it was without giving them any more reason to doubt what he was capable of.
Still, there had clearly been two wolves out last night, one trying to get into Marcus’s apartment to attack his girl and his roommate at the same time the other was sniffing out Franklin’s place, maybe looking for a way to get in at yet another target.
He wondered which wolf was to blame when they arrived at the police station to find Lenore, apologetic and empty-handed.
“I swear it was there last night, but the folder with all of Marcus’s paperwork, it’s like it’s just gone,” she said. “Stephen and I went through the whole apartment, but we couldn’t find it anywhere. It’s a bright blue company folder, it’s hard to miss and I could have sworn I left it in his room, but we were so freaked out last night and ran out so fast…”
But it wasn’t the sort of thing you’d hold on to when you’re running for your life, not without a reason. If the werewolf had broken down the apartment door, literally anyone could have walked in at any point during the rest of the night and taken it.
“Would anyone have a reason to steal it?” the District Attorney asked, clearly thinking the same thing. “What kind of paperwork was in it?”
“I mean, I just flipped through it, but most of it was copies of receipts and spreadsheets. Marcus was in charge of balancing the budget at the end of every month, so sometimes he’d have to double check what we paid for this or that, but it’s not like company secrets or anything,” Lenore answered. “As far as we can tell nothing else is missing. I’m sorry, we’ll keep looking, but I thought you should know.”
“So that lead’s a total bust,” Abe muttered later, once they were back outside and walking to the first suspect’s house.
“Not entirely,” the District Attorney said. “It looks like you were right to ask about his papers, because someone was interested enough to take them. That may be why your werewolf visited them last night and went to all the trouble of scaring them off. That’s another big deviation from the first three victims, and again because of Marcus. Or in this case, something he possessed.”
“He must have known something, or at least the werewolf thought he did.” Abe rubbed his chin as he walked, eyes darting up and down the street even as his thoughts circled around the idea. “The werewolf tries to get in as a wolf, no doubt trying to hide its identity, and rushes the door when it realizes the kids are inside to scare them out. It didn’t bother with killing them before they got to the cops, because they weren’t the target.”
Except it had still chased them, and circled the group last night with every apparent intention of killing them, at least according to the cops and the kids. Had it been considering disposing of all five of them then? Or had it just been playing with them, feeding off of their fear just as it had Marcus before the kill?
Abe shook himself a little to dispel that train of thought and continued, “Fat lot of good that does us, if it’s in the killer’s hands now.”
The District Attorney surprised him with a rare smile as they asked, “We’ll see about that. Tell me, how are you at bluffing?”
They went to ‘Honest’ John’s house first, on the assumption that after last night he would be the least likely to expect to start off his day with a few questions. It helped that he lived within a few blocks of the police station, but when they reached the front door they almost walked straight into the man himself on his way out.
Because they were still on the steps, both had to look up to see the face of the man who towered over them. Clean shaven and neat in his appearance, from his close-trimmed hair and tailored suit down to his shiny shoes, Abe would have guessed him to be the banker of the group. After a moment of surprise, the man slipped into an easy, practiced smile and asked, “Can I help you?”
“Name’s Abe, and right now all you need to know is I’m working for the city. This is—”
“Y/N,” John said, his smile growing wider when he saw their surprise. “The District Attorney. I’ve seen your face in the papers, of course. Can I say, I appreciate what you and our Mayor have been doing for the city so far?”
“You can say whatever you want,” they responded stiffly. “We have some questions for you, so if we could step inside…”
“I’m afraid I was just heading into work,” John said, stepping fully outside and shutting the door behind him as he did so. “Could we talk on the way there?”
“Look, we can talk in the middle of traffic as long as you answer our questions,” Abe said and the man nodded before turning to lock the door. While his back was to them, Abe shot the District Attorney a look, but their eyes were sizing up John, a frown tugging at the corner of their mouth until he turned around.
“Forgive me, my manners are lacking,” John said and he stuck a hand out in Abe’s direction. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Abe…?”
It was a salesman’s greeting, the hand turned to put his on top. Abe knew that trick, and in response he grasped the hand with both of his own.
“Lincoln.”
“Abe Lincoln,” John said, his left hand moving forward to touch Abe’s forearm so that now this handshake was far too friendly for Abe’s liking. A smile that didn’t reach his eyes, maybe even a laugh escaped as he added, “John Booth, at your service.”
The handshake showed no sign of stopping until the District Attorney made a sound at that, at which point John let go and turned to them.
“I think you two have done enough handshaking for all of us,” they said, firmly planting both hands in their pockets just in case and ignoring the hearty laugh from John at that. “Let’s skip straight to the point. Did you know Mr. Alex Haywood, of Haywood Construction?”
“If you’ve come to question me about him, then I can only suppose you already know he had taken out a loan with my company,” John answered. He gave a heavy sigh and said, “I’m afraid I didn’t know him well, but I was sad to hear of his passing, especially in such a…brutal manner.”
He stood there, eyes downcast and shoulders slumped, before he seemed to remember that he had been going somewhere. He gestured for them to walk alongside him, and with his long gait keeping him slightly ahead he began to lead them down the street.
“Yeah, I know you must be real sad about losing that loan,” Abe said.
“Not particularly. It wasn’t a large amount, and even then, there is a good chance his estate will cover the loss. No, I am more disturbed by the rumors going around concerning Alex’s death, especially with the Mayor’s sudden call for a curfew.” John’s eyes shifted to Abe, looking him up and down before adding to the District Attorney, “I suppose the rumors must be true, if the city is hiring hunters now.”
“Two other clients of yours have also been recently murdered,” the District Attorney said, ignoring his remarks. “It would seem you’ve been unlucky in your choice of loans, Mr. Booth.”
“Three respectable members of the community, who by all means should have been trustworthy debtors. It’s not the most pleasant coincidence,” John agreed. “I am more than aware how it looks, Y/N, but what reason would I have to harm the very people my livelihood depends on? To be honest, I was rather hoping to hear you had some answer of your own for why this keeps happening.”
The District Attorney looked away, but Abe saw how John studied their reaction, just as he had noticed how the man couldn’t seem to take his eyes off of his partner since they left the house, as though fascinated by the way they moved. Abe knew having himself and the District Attorney on either side of the man to flank him was the best way to keep an eye on him and put that much more pressure on the suspect, but at the moment he wanted nothing more than to insert himself between the two of them.
Instead, he cleared his throat and, when John glanced his way as if having forgotten he was even there, said, “We know exactly what we’re looking for, and that’s why we’re talking to you now. Isn’t that right, Par—er, Y/N?”
“…That’s correct,” they said, a new steel in their voice as they fixed John with an even, unblinking stare, heedless of where they were walking. “The night before last, an employee of Alex Haywood was murdered. We know that he had company records in his possession, and some of these records were more…questionable than others. As someone financially related to Haywood, you’ll understand why we wish to see any and everything you have related to his company.”
“Is that so?” John tried to keep up the same tone of speech, but Abe could feel the way he tensed. Then again, anyone would tense up if face to face with the District Attorney’s stare, that quiet blanket of seriousness loosely wrapped around a sharp wire that felt ready to snap and lash out at anyone foolish enough to trip it. “Then please, allow me to give you a copy of our records regarding Haywood. I’m afraid it’s not much, but if it can be of any help to you…”
No one should be smiling like that right now, Abe thought as John unlocked his office door and let them in, not at my—Not at a time like this.
Feeling guilty at even the cut-off thought that strayed across his mind, Abe turned his attention to the small, well-decorated office, and immediately almost knocked over a potted plant on one of the desks while John went to one of the locked filing cabinets and pulled out Haywood’s file, then the files for the other two victims when the District Attorney reminded him.
When John handed over the folder with the copies inside, his gaze lingered on the District Attorney’s face and he took a deep breath before smiling again and saying, “I look forward to seeing you again, Y/N.”
Their eyes met his for just a second, their brows narrowing as they pulled the folder out of his hand with a little more force than was necessary before walking out without another word. Abe couldn’t stop a proud smile at that as he turned to follow.
“The same goes for you, hunter. Feel free to come see me if there’s anything I can do to help you find your wolf.”
“Oh, I’m sure we’ll be seeing each other again,” Abe said before shutting the door behind him, hoping that sounded better out loud than it did in his head as he walked away.
It took almost half a block to catch up and fall in step with the District Attorney, who seemed so caught up in their own thoughts and examining the contents of the folder that he doubted they even noticed his absence. He had to repeat himself two or three times before they finally looked up and asked, “What?”
“I said, that John guy was too ready to help us out. No one’s ever that helpful without a reason.”
“It could be because he knows there’s nothing incriminating in these documents,” they answered, looking down at the papers again. Despite their distraction, they managed to navigate a hole in the sidewalk and easily sidestepped a man and his dog standing on the corner, although Abe had to grab their elbow to keep them from walking straight out into traffic. “There’s nothing here that stands out on its own, unfortunately.”
“Then we keep digging,” Abe said. He looked around, trying to take stock of the city in daylight. “We’re near the banker’s house, right? If anyone would want to keep a record of his dealings…”
A butler answered the door at Mr. Franklin’s house and nearly shut it in Abe’s face before the District Attorney flashed some documents, at which point he, reluctantly, invited them into the sitting room. It was a neat trick, and as Abe paced around the room he thought to himself that if there were ever a next job for the city then he would have to ask for a badge of his own. Nothing too fancy, just with enough of a shine to make people think twice about questioning his presence long enough to find what he was looking for.
“Please do not touch that, it is a rare piece by Asteas himself,” came a rebuke from the doorway, catching Abe just as he started to reach out his hand.
“Really? It just looks like a vase,” Abe said, pulling his hand back all the same. “Not even a good one, I’ve seen elementary school kids make better.”
“Be that as it may,” said the posh voice behind him, “It’s worth more than you would make in a lifetime, I’m sure.”
Well, now Abe wanted nothing more than to knock it off its stand. Resisting that urge, he turned to face the gentleman at the door. Well, gentleman in theory, although Mr. Franklin looked more like a reformed hippie pressed into wearing a suit, not helped by the fact he was wearing sandals. He was a stout man with a neatly trimmed beard and long hair pulled back into a bun, and he gave Abe an owlish stare behind a pair of ridiculously small glasses.
Franklin gave a heavy sigh. “Has there been another murder?”
Abe narrowed his eyes. “That’s an oddly specific question.”
“Not as odd as when a group of police officers knocked on my door at three in the morning to ask if I was dead, a werewolf, or both.”
Abe tried very hard not to look at the District Attorney for fear of seeing how they reacted to that. Instead, he said, “Well, at least we can rule out one of those options for now. Where were you and what were you doing last night?”
“In bed, and sleeping. Well, until the knocking started,” the banker answered, but he took a hasty step back when Abe crossed the room and encroached on his personal space.
“Oh, really?” Abe asked. “Then care to explain why I saw a werewolf sniffing around outside your house last night? Because it seemed real interested in you.”
The District Attorney made a noise at that, briefly reminding Abe that he had forgotten to share that little detail before now, but that thought went straight out the door when Franklin gave a choked sob and fell against the door frame as though no longer able to support himself.
“It’s coming for me,” he gasped out, one hand clutching his shirt so hard that at least one button had come undone or snapped straight off. “No, no, I told them, I told them I’d have nothing to do with it, why—”
He gave another choked sob and Abe rolled his eyes at the District Attorney to show what he thought of this act.
“Yeah, I’m sure you did, pal. Now why don’t you start naming names and we can actually get somewhere?”
“Uh, Abe…” The District Attorney started, but he gave them a shushing motion. He could handle this one.
The banker’s face turned red as he began to wheeze, his words stuttering and indecipherable.
“Come on, buddy, we don’t have all day,” Abe said and caught the banker as he started to slide to the ground.
Caught his sweating, shaking body as another gasping wheeze came out.
“Uh…Pal?” Abe asked as the District Attorney pushed past him, a single shout into the hall rousing the butler as they crossed over to the phone and began to dial.
((End of Part 4. Thank you for reading! ...In my defense, I wrote this before I had even considered doing anything for Goretober, much less that John might make a reappearance there.

[OC] Metal Fight Beyblade
Name: Nefertiti Storm Nicknames: Nef (everyone), Neffy (Nile), Ne-Ne (Tithi, Yuu), Witch Doctor (Kuro) Age: 18 (Fusion); 19 (Masters); 20 (Fury); 27 (Shogun) Status: Blader, doctor Origin: Cairo, Egypt First Appearance: Nefertiti's first appearance would be during Metal Masters, with her brother in the African Qualifiers. While she doesn't get the bracelet needed to stay on the team, she does cheer her brother on, opting to not be a part of the starting gang chase after Nile, Kyoya, and Marcus. She silently tails him, making sure he doesn't wind up in trouble. Unfortunately, she's a few minutes too late to stopping Marcus from dropping Kyoya and Nile in the sewer system, but she later runs into Demure. Together, they find Kyoya and Nile, and then proceed to go on to challenge Marcus and his gang for the bracelets. The four of them get the bracelets back, but Nefertiti opts to drop out of the World Championships so she could focus more on her studies. This is how Benkei becomes a part of the team. Personality: Nefertiti is an easy going young woman, with a slight penchant for being overprotective of those she cares about. She's easy to talk to, and has a very mothering nature. She loves to help people, hence her studies in the medical field. Nefertiti is a calm person, and a very mature person. She doesn't appreciate being lied too (especially concerning someone's health), and will make sure those who do lie to her find just how much she dislikes it. Nefertiti will always support her younger brother, and his friends. History/Bio: Nefertiti grew up in a chaotic household with her grandparents, parents, and younger brother. As she and her brother grew up, she taught Nile all she knew about Beyblade, and when he reached the right age to compete in competitions, the two of them would often enter in tag team tournaments, dominating everyone else. Her grandparents died when she was 11, and then her parents in a car crash when she was 18 and a freshman in college. Things changed for the young woman, who was determined to make ends meet for herself and her younger brother. So, in between classes and spending time with Nile, she took up part time work at a local walk in clinic. This is where she found her calling in medicine, and decided to go for a nursing degree. In Metal Masters, Nefertiti does compete in the African Qualifiers, but later denies her position on the African team, instead giving it to Benkei. She stays behind in Cairo to continue her studies, but is always sure to watch Wild Fang's battles, and even call her brother afterwards to make sure everyone is doing okay. She's absolutely stunned when Ziggurat reveals his true motives behind the World Championships, and is already on the way to America when the other teams join together to storm Hades City. She's upset that her brother did something so reckless, even if it was with good intentions, and she's a part of the medical team that sees to the injured after the downfall of Hades City. It helps build up her own reputation in the medical field, and gains much needed experience. In Fury, Nefertiti is a sophomore in college, and very much wrapped up in her studies. Still, she lets her brother go off to Mist Mountain with a word of warning. She's still working part time at her local clinic, now as a shadowing nurse, at the time. When Nemesis rises and the injured poor in after his final defeat, she finds her first real taste of what it might mean to be a nurse, and that only cements her desire to stay. If she can help, she'll help, even if it means delivering heartbreaking news. After things settle down a little, she and Nile travel to Metal City, more to see Kyoya, and there she meets Chris, where a connection is formed. In Shogun Steel, Nefertiti has completed her schooling, and is now a well known doctor in Cairo. At this point, she's in a well established relationship with Chris and continues to support her brother in his own career. She's also become rather sleep deprived and a coffee addict, but still with a smile on her face. Bey: Poison Wadjet Special Moves: Poison Night Strike Serpent's Flight Coil of Death Friends: Kyoya and Kakeru Tategami, Dynamis, Demure, Tithi, Christina Cadelle Family: Nile (Nefertiti is older by 5 years) Crush/ Significant Other: Chris Enemies: Ziggurat, Nemesis crew, Johannes Favorite Food: Anything spicy Music: Pop, Pop Rock, Rap Other: (1) Takes up a motherly role to Tithi, once she meets him (2) Despises Marcus' and Johannes' very existence (3) is a certified therapist as well as a doctor (4) With her knowledge of the human body, she could easily put anyone in the hospital Quotes to Describe/ often heard sayings/ things often said: "And she would bow to no one" "In my defense, sis..." "Okay, this time it wasn't my fault." "Nile!" / "Kyoya!" / ".... Christopher Cadelle, what did you do now." "How stupid can one person be? ... No don't answer that."

The 100 6x12 "Adjustment Protocol" Review
Hello friends, it’s good to see you all again! I’m happy to be sharing my thoughts with you in this form again. Tonight I’m reviewing episode 6x12 of The 100 “Adjustment Protocol”, written by Kim Shumway and directed by Antonio Negret. I found myself underwhelmed by the season’s lead-in to the finale episode and I’m detailing why below!
The Good
1. Eliza’s Exceptional Encore
Eliza Taylor has been on it this season. She’s been given extremely meaty scenes and she keeps blowing them out of the water. Clarke has been through so much lately and I am always excited to see what Eliza brings to the material she’s been given. The last few episodes have perhaps been some of the most challenging in her career and she’s been phenomenal in each of them. This episode was particularly tough for her, having to vacillate between Clarke playing Josephine, to Clarke listening to her daughter’s crazed rants and having to hide her tears, to Clarke experiencing the grief of realizing that her mother is dead and having to camouflage it so that her Josephine cover remains intact — and her friends remain alive. I wanted to reach through the screen and hug her when she broke down, because the girl has been through it!
For several seasons it’s been easy to debate about Clarke being a “worthy” hero because her actions don’t often line up with what we’ve been trained to expect of heroes. She is always ready and willing to make the tough choices, to kill whoever needs to be killed to save her people, to reach into the darkest parts of her own soul to make sure that other people don’t have to. This season Clarke has been unwilling to compromise on the promise she made to Monty’s memory. The promise to “do better” is layered in everything that she does and everything that she says. If last season was about the development of Bellamy into a “fully realized” leader, this has been that season for Clarke and she is extraordinary.
I do find myself concerned about what Abby’s death will mean for Clarke’s determination to be different. It would be so easy to fall back into her old patterns, to lash out and turn her rage to all of the inhabitants of Sanctum (including innocents) instead of just on Russell who rightly deserves it. I’m hoping that she turns to her friends for support in this moment (and in the future) because heaven only knows that she’ll need them to get through this and I believe that perhaps that will be one of the biggest pluses of this season. With all of the crimes her friends laid at her feet this season, after watching Clarke go through so much and consciously continue to “do better”, I hope that we come through this with them realizing how much Clarke has done for everyone, often at her own expense. She’s a hero and she deserves to be treated as such.
The Bad
1. Men Ruin Everything (Especially Female Television Characters)
In a rather shocking (not!) development, Dr. Abigail Griffin has joined the ranks of deceased characters even as her body continues to walk among the living. It’s been clear to me since Season 4 that Abby and Kane didn’t have long for this world, with Kane’s Season 4 quote, ”The youth will inherit the Earth”, playing a huge part in my thought process. I expected Abby to die that season, due to the problems she was suffering post A.L.I.E., but thanks to Raven’s genius (and Kane’s unwillingness to let her walk out of the bunker) she lived to fight another season. I expected Kane to die in Season 5 after he was attacked mercilessly by the cannibal Vinson and yet he survived those wounds as well. For some, that was a relief but I personally found myself confused and after tonight’s episode (and, in all honesty, their treatment all season) that confusion continues. Instead of being treated with the gravity that main character deaths deserve, both felt unceremonious and rather rushed, but at least Kane received a hero’s death.
Abby’s story has grated on my nerves from the moment she first appeared in Season 5 with a drug addiction that was second only to her addictive obsession to Kane. Prior to Season 5, Abby’s story involved Kane but did not revolve around him. After that, all bets were off and Abby was only capable of caring about one person and that person was Kane. Everything she did in Season 5 and Season 6 up to and until Kane’s death served one person: Marcus Kane. Abby, a mother, a grandmother and one of only two qualified doctors for all of the people aboard the Eligius ship, became nothing more than a pawn on a romantic chessboard. She, like so many women on this show once they become romantically involved, became nothing more than a support for the man in her life. Even her death, which should be a hugely pivotal moment for this season, as Abby is the only mother of the original 100 we have any connection with, became wrapped up in the irony of what she’d done only three episode prior to save Kane.
I believe that it also says quite a bit about how this show (which features women quite heavily) understands feminism. It is tragically horrific to kill a woman only a few episodes after killing her male love interest. It sends a message, even if unintentional, that she is only worth keeping around as long as her man is there, too. Abby’s arc could have been finished well in the closing scenes of Season 4, it could even have worked in the mid-season finale of Season 5, but after giving her a drug addiction (which she had not completely conquered), showcasing the absolutely insane lengths she was willing to go to save Kane (which she was not given time to properly “learn” from), it was clear that Abby still had some growth left in her. Unfortunately, it’s a story we’ll never get to see.
In addition, the lead in to Abby’s death was painfully obvious. They needed to make 6 hosts, they only had 5 bodies. After making herself an obvious threat to Russell, Abby made herself a nightblood (“Like mother, like daughter”, says Jackson in the background for additional foreshadowing) and she’s in just the right age range to be suitable to host a 50-year-old man’s wife — unlike Ash (aka: Echo). She makes up with Raven in a rushed moment and conveniently learns that Clarke isn’t as dead as she thought she was — all in an effort to “finish” her storyline. As she dies, we’re treated to Raven and Jackson sobbing through flashbacks of her loved ones. It’s a death and not one particularly suited to a character of Abby’s standing on the show. More, fans of Paige Turco are likely going to have to prepare to watch “Abby” die once more — just as they did with Kane. It’s been a rough season for fans of Kabby. May we meet again Abby Griffin, you deserved more than you were given.
2. Forced Female Friendships are not Feminist (Say That 3 Times Fast)
This episode felt like a good reminder that most TV writers do not understand female friendships (yes, even if the writers identify as women themselves). In this episode we are treated to a moment that is still confusing me as I write this (after my second viewing of the episode): Clarke and Echo (and Gaia and Miller) are reunited and in a moment of relief, Echo hugs Clarke after realizing she’s managed to kill Josephine and that ...doesn't make sense. This season has felt like a huge attempt to retcon Clarke and Echo’s relationship into a friendship that does not exist; in fact Echo has been kinder to Clarke than people who have known Clarke for longer (albeit only by a few months) and that doesn’t work for me.
In the Season 5 two-part finale, Echo literally threatens to kill Clarke, because she is enraged that she left Bellamy to die, in the Season 4 premiere she does the same, in Season 3 she is responsible (in part) for killing many of Clarke’s “people”; and yet, the show, in a strange attempt to portray “friendship” between two women who the audience largely believe to be romantic rivals (because that’s how they are written), would have us ignore all of these previous transgressions, pretend the characters don’t need to have at least a conversation about mending their relationship and have jumped onto the bridge of friendship together. Echo and Clarke honestly don’t even know each other. It’s disingenuous and another example of the horrible ways in which a show that primarily features women treats those women.
Even worse is the fact that, after repeating Monty’s mantra all season long through many characters (but primarily Clarke), we watched Echo murder Ryker last episode in cold blood. (I have yet to come up with a reason his death makes sense. Yes he was going to wipe Echo, but Miller had him at gunpoint and he’d surrendered. It would have been easy enough to force him into the chair, tie the restraints and gag him — leaving him to be found later by the guards, or in this case Josephine.) What about Echo’s actions this season (in the small amount of screen time she’s been given) equate to “doing better”? We watched people castigate Clarke for killing people to save her people, but no one has anything to say to Echo for killing people to save….herself? It’s baffling that this show continues to have Echo act in ways that are antithetical to those of our confirmed heroes (Bellamy and Clarke) and suffer absolutely no negative pushback from anyone. At what point do we see the consequences of her actions? Especially with the messaging for this season?
3. Plot Holes Big Enough to Sink a Ship In
As per usual, The 100 once again crafts a season that is perhaps too big for its season length. This problem has been consistent since Season 4 and it’s largely because, after Season 3, the show which once prided itself on the fact that “anyone could die” has now become afraid to kill even the most useless character, if at least one fan likes them. This episode attempted to wrap up several character and plot arcs and as a result it felt overcrowded and rushed. Between bringing the Flame into the plot, the nightblood, making new primes, Emori and Murphy becoming Primes and pretending to be Kaylee and Daniel, Gabriel returning to Sanctum, Russell bombing his people and forcing them to kill each other, Priya’s kidnapping, and Abby’s death it’s just too much for one episode to handle!
If they needed all of these things to happen before the end of the season they should have begun the wrap up sooner (and or gotten rid of two characters in Season 4 and 5 respectively as mentioned earlier) and this is one of the prime reasons I support and advocate for smaller casts. Because every character with even an ounce of screen time is given the “main” treatment, all of their storylines must somehow be wrapped up in the final two episodes and it has historically not worked. In fact, this particular episode’s issues are so glaring largely because this season seriously pared down the amount of time it spent with people who weren’t Bellamy and Clarke (much like Season 2), greatly alleviating the audience’s need to care about so many different characters and it worked! Season 6, up until this episode has been one of the best seasons (my current order being 2, 1, 6, 4, 3, 5) because it felt like they were returning to the heart of the show: Bellamy and Clarke and their relationship to one another (however you might describe that). With this disjointed episode I was again reminded that there are too many characters I don’t have enough time to care about and it sapped the joy out of an otherwise excellent season for me.
But perhaps that’s my own fault. Perhaps I’m expecting too much from this show in its sixth season and of course I’ll wait to pass final judgement until the finale airs next week. I’ll be writing that review as well! I can’t wait to close out the season with you guys. See you soon!!!
April’s episode rating: 🐝🐝.5
The Season 6 finale of The 100 airs Tuesday, August 6 at 9/8c on the CW.
