The more I really think about it, the more I realize just how mixed I am on just Mariposa Diaz as a concept. Not even as a character because, well, let’s be honest, since she’s an infant she doesn’t really have much of an obvious character, unless you want to count her teenage self, who may or may not be completely different from how she’ll be when she grows up, since the circumstances of how she’s raised will be totally different.

On the positive side, she is admittedly adorable (even if I do wish they did just a little more to differentiate her from Marco, especially when she’s a teenager), as are the interactions she gets with both Marco and Meteora. Plus, she’s the catalyst for one of my favorite episode-wide running gags, with everyone assuming she’s Star and Marco’s baby. And I actually really do like the episode “Gone, Baby, Gone”.

But, on the negative side, while she’s technically not the main issue I have with the episode, her existence was the catalyst for probably the episode of the show I get the most angry at: “Marco Jr.”. And on a more general note....there’s the simple fact that, because she’s introduced so late in the series (we don’t even know she exists until about halfway through Season 3, and she’s not born until honestly basically right before the episodes that essentially all collectively serve as the finale), and is still so young by the end that it’s hard to say she even has a defined personality, much less being able to really contribute to the show, I still can’t help but wonder....what was the point of creating this character? It really did feel like the only reason they decided to give Marco a baby sibling was to guilt him into coming back to Earth, but there was no reason they had to make it so Marco was ignoring his parents - they could have just had him visiting them between episodes, or maybe establish that he and Star set up a magic mirror or something so they could communicate, if not in person.

The charge filed against the six cops of Navotas involved in the botched operation was murder. But Navotas City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 286 convicted only one, Police Staff Sergeant Gerry Maliban, not of murder but of homicide. While murder has the penalty of reclusion perpetua or up to 40 years in prison, Magliban was sentenced to only 4 to 6 years in prison. He was also ordered to pay P50,000 for moral and civil damages.

In explaining why Maliban was convicted of homicide instead of murder, Navotas RTC Branch 286 Clerk of Court Anne Kathryn Diaz read a portion of the decision: “Police Staff Sergeant Maliban cannot be said to have employed means, methods, or forms in the execution of the crime.”

I’ve rewatched “Star VS The Forces of Evil” episodes 17-18 season 3. In the first part of the first episode Buff Frog and the other monsters want to leave and Tom wants to go to an adventure with Star instead of Marco and tries to persuade the monsters not to leave by giving a speech (he’s also a half-monster after all). It’s all very interesting and shows discrimination pretty well, but why does Buff Frog call his children “babushkas”? Just for the record – babushka means grandmother. The second part is about Marco getting a brother and about the relationship with his parents (that Diazes don’t know their son anymore). The first part of the second episode is about Meteora finding out about what happened to her when she was a baby. We also get to know about her childhood and teenage years and how she was forced to hide her “flaws”: her cheeks, her tail and so on. Now, she’s becoming more and more “monstrous” and going to get the throne back. The last part is about Star and Marco relationship – they are trapped in a photo booth by a weird goblin, who lets them out only when they’ve kissed. Wow. Teenage drama. Again.
