NYT: Harris Campaign’s Legal Team Takes Shape as Election Battles Heat Up
Nick Corasantini at NYT:
Amid threats of certification battles and mass voter challenges, Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign has assembled an expansive senior legal team that will oversee hundreds of lawyers and thousands of volunteers in a sprawling operation designed to be a bulwark against what Democrats expect to be an aggressive Republican effort to challenge voters, rules and, possibly, the results of the 2024 election.
The legal apparatus within the Harris campaign will oversee multiple aspects of the election program, including voter protection, recounts and general election litigation, and it is adding Marc Elias, one of the party’s top election lawyers, to focus on potential recounts. The legal group is headed by Bob Bauer, who served as personal counsel to President Biden for years, and Dana Remus, the general counsel to the 2020 Biden campaign, and also includes Maury Riggan, the general counsel for the Harris campaign. Josh Hsu, formerly from the vice president’s office, will join the team, and Vanita Gupta, a former director of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and a top Biden Justice Department official, is an informal adviser. The campaign will also lean on the top lawyers at three prominent law firms — Seth Waxman, Donald Verrilli and John Devaney — to handle litigation, and deploy local counsel to eight battleground states and four other states of interest.
Mr. Elias, who has had tensions with Mr. Bauer and other Democratic lawyers in the past, will also bring lawyers from his growing firm, Elias Law Group. He has also previously worked for Ms. Harris, serving as general counsel for her primary campaign in 2020. Ms. Remus said in a statement that the legal team had been working “uninterrupted over the last four years, building strategic plans in key states, adding more talent and capacity, and preparing for all possible scenarios.” “This year, like in 2020, we have the nation’s finest lawyers at the table, ready to work together tirelessly to ensure our election will be free, fair and secure — and to ensure that all eligible voters will be able to cast their ballots, knowing their votes will be counted,” Ms. Remus said.
The origins of the effort date back to July 2020, when Walter Dellinger, a former acting solicitor general, called top officials on Mr. Biden’s legal team saying they needed to create “something we’ve never created before,” because the Trump campaign and its allies were beginning to bring cases and lay the groundwork for litigation. With the lessons of 2020 still fresh in Democrats’ minds, Harris advisers claim that the legal team is about 10 times the size of the 2020 operation. The expansive new Democratic legal team, and the opposing group at the Republican National Committee, is a reflection of the legal arms race that is the new reality of American elections since Mr. Trump’s election victory in 2016. The battle over whose votes count — not just how many votes are counted — has become central to modern presidential campaigns.
[...] Democrats have been highlighting recent wins in many of the court battles as part of their effort to get ahead of voting issues. In Nevada, a judge dismissed a lawsuit in July filed by Republicans challenging a state law that allows ballots arriving up to four days after Election Day to be counted. In Mississippi, a judge rejected a similar challenge from Republicans that ballots that are postmarked by Election Day but arrive five days later should not be counted. And in June, a federal judge rejected an argument from Republicans that voter rolls in Nevada had significant inconsistencies, finding that the R.N.C. and the voter who filed the lawsuit did not have legal standing. Core to the Democratic legal effort is the party’s voter protection program, which operates as both a traditional assistance program to voters as well as the eyes and ears of the legal team to help counter any false claims of fraud or malfeasance.
Helmed by Meredith Horton, the program is focused on eight battleground states (Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina and New Hampshire) as well as four states of interest (Florida, Virginia, Minnesota and Maine). The program has more than 100 staff members across those 12 states, they said, buttressed by hundreds more volunteers and thousands of poll monitors recruited by the party. “This program is one that we are building to meet this moment,” Ms. Horton said in an interview, calling it the largest of its kind in Democratic presidential campaign history.
The New York Times reports that the Kamala Harris campaign’s legal team has begun to form in anticipation for post-Election Day battles akin to 2020.

Marc Jacobs 'Amber Boot' - $475.00 (no longer available)
There’s a lot about this outfit that should have alarm bells ringing. The first thing that hit me personally were those boots which bear striking similarity to the many pairs she wore during the original reputation run that had all the same characteristics: Black leather, ankle height, chunky heel, platform. Worn by Vetements in her Vogue 2016 spread and Balenciaga in the “LWYMMD” music video (diving into that in Stories shortly).
But what might interest you even more is that I believe this pair of boots originally hails from a Marc Jacobs 2017 collection. I’ll leave it at that.
Worn with: Alaïa dress, Louis Vuitton bag, and B-Low the Belt belt

I’d love to hear more about Carey Price and the CCM goalie gear!
hey there! thanks a bunch for the ask! i know its been sitting a while but now i just remembered to get around to this!
Carey Price (and many other Habs goaltenders over the years, tbh) has been very influential on the world of goaltender equipment in general, but especially CCM's catalogue as he was one of their longtime "faces" of their goalie equipment and arguably one of their most notable (besides Marc-Andre Fleury for awhile there, too). he originally started with Vaughn in the early days of his career, as we can see here:
Vaughn at this time was much bigger in goalie in the NHL than they are these days, the only real notable goalie they have now as far as I know is Jonathan Quick. But, if you're CCM and you're seeing a lights out, absolutely killer goaltender like Carey Price starting to emerge in the mid 2000s, you're likely going to want him to wear your stuff, with your logo, right? If this goalie is wearing your stuff, everyone who plays and wants to be like him will likely try to emulate him, right?
Hockey brands will often send pros equipment tuned to their specs in an attempt to get them to switch all the time for this exact reason- but I can't really think of any other instance of a brand going as far as CCM did in the case of Carey Price.
To understand what I'm specifically talking about, I have to first introduce the concept of break angle- this is a term in goalie equipment that refers to the way and at what angle a goalie glove/trapper closes. The three you'll often hear of are the 580 break (90° closure), the 590 break (60° closure), and the 600 break (50° closure). No two gloves are the same, so a 600 break from Vaughn will be different than a 600 break from Bauer, and so on and so forth.
Here's a chart that should give a better visual on what each of the three look like and how they differ:
At this time, Carey Price's glove with Vaughn was most similar to what we would call CCM's 600 break today. They actually created the 600 break in order to help Price transition out of the Vaughn glove he was using at that time. As you can see with what appears to be one of his first CCM sets, the Extreme Flex III that he had circa 2012-2013, the glove is very similar looking to the one he had with Vaughn:
Now, some bonus info because I think it's funny: Carey Price no longer uses a 600 break, and has since switched to the 590 as of a couple years ago (something that caused a bit of controversy at that time). He also is no longer with CCM, as CCM Goalie cut ties with the Lefevre family a couple years ago now. The Lefevre family, who are well renowned for their excellence and innovation in goaltender equipment. Where they go, most NHL goalies will follow. Lefevre is now working with True Temper, and that explains the severe uptick in NHL goaltenders using their pads, gloves, and blockers.
Here's some of his True setups because I think they're neat:
So yeah! Basically, TLDR: CCM invented the 600 break angle, a break angle that is still popular at the retail level to this day, specifically for Carey Price to switch to their equipment from Vaughn.

There are a number of different contemporary artists that I have been interested during this semester, but that haven't directly linked to artworks I was creating.
A number of them relate to abject art movements. One of these is works by Tung Ming-Chin. This artwork really effectively connects figures of the body and the supple forms of human interaction with the hard nature of wood, and the level of labour needed to develop such perfectly smooth timber forms.
The Birth of a New Hero (2008), 35x30x45cm (Left). Inner Turmoil (2009), 85x85x30cm (Right). https://www.thisiscolossal.com/2019/05/wood-sculptures-by-tung-ming-chin/
Another artist who creates visibly similar artworks is Lois Cecchini. Cecchini creates artworks depicting objects almost languidly being contained in a stretching wall. It creates a similar sense of tension to Ming-Chin's work, but with much more sterile forms and a more architectural focus, as if a world was being absorbed and forced into sterility.
http://inspirationist.net/extruding-bodies-by-loris-cecchini/
Another artist that caught my interest is David Altmejd, with his artwork 'Le Trou' (The Hand). I found this artwork when researching contemporary artworks involving hands as they have been of interest to me recently. This particular artwork struck me because of how something without any form of colour and relatively simple forms could express such powerful emotion. In further research, I found a number of his other works were also highly psychological and abject, and focussed on distorting the human form, but in logical and mathematical ways, sometimes described as 'crystalline' to highlight the ways that different perceptions of reality can overlap and merge.
Image on Left sourced from daltmejd on Instagram.
Other images: https://www.davidkordanskygallery.com/viewing-room/one-on-one-david-altmejd
I don't want to make an excessively long post, so these are some other artists of interest I've looked into:
Susanna Bauer (the highly delicate and detailed embroidery works make powerful connections to the natural world), Armelle Blary Daphné (the stark red and white fabric sculptures convert the human body into dense structures of coral and roots), Wim Delvoye (the extremely detailed scultpures warp the world into a mathematical reality, drawing on contemporary and traditional art concepts), Keiko Sato (reminds me of exploring the ways that technology attempts to mimic the existing forms of the natural world), Jamie North (taking hard and industrial forms and placing them in organic shapes and softening them with plant inclusion), Marc Pouyet (using the natural world to create structural whimsy), Nicoletta De La Brown (Combining craft with contemporary waste in a performance that celebrates it rather than rejects it), Jonathan Callan (taking the readymade and converting it into something supple and new).

Where the T7S gang shops (minus Fez), from the 70s to present day...
Donna: Old Navy, Gap, Kohl's, JCPenney, Sears, Target, Levi's, Lucky Brand. Jackie gets her to splurge on Madewell, once in awhile. Plus, Jackie thinks Ann Taylor and J Crew are "perfect" for Donna.
Eric: Old Navy, Gap, LL Bean, Eddie Bauer, Levi's, Kohl's, JCPenney, Sears, Target. Dreams of Patagonia and The North Face. Will wear almost anything Donna buys him, so a lot of the places they prefer to shop at tend to overlap.
Hyde: Levi's, Wrangler, Harley Davidson, anywhere with band tees. Basic tees can come from almost anywhere. Hole in the wall vintage and thrift stores. Jackie buys his formal wear.
Jackie: Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom, Calvin Klein, Chanel, Guess, Celine, Ted Baker, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Yves Saint Laurent, Tory Burch, Victoria's Secret, Macy's, Jordache (pre-Walmart), Zimmermann, Burberry, Prada, Gucci, Miu Miu, Alice+Olivia, Jimmy Choo, etc. Hates JNCO jeans, Juicy Couture, Balenciaga, and athleisure in general. If well off, Zara is the cheapest she'll go.

Disney Blu Ray review 101 Dalmations
Requested by @goodanswerfoxmonster I am delighted to talk about 101 Dalmatians
This 1961 film follows Pongo (Rod Taylor ) and Perdita (Lisa Daniels and Cate Bauer .....So Lisa Daniels recorded some of the movie ,had to leave cause she got married,soCate Bauer recorded the rest, and no we dont know who recorded which lines ) two Dalmatians who are pet (Though they view it the other way around ) of Roger (Ben Wright ) and Anita (Lisa Davis ).Pongo and Perdita become the proud parents of 15 puppies who are stolen by two crooks Jasper ( J Pat O Maley ) and Horace (Fredrick Worlock ) working for Anitas old friend Cruella De Vill (Betty Lou Gerson ) ,who has nefarious plans to mak a Dog Skin coat
So this is one of my favorite Walt era Disney films .I have massive nostalgia for it ,I named my first dog Pongo (He was a basset not a Dalmatian but whatever ,when your a kid dog is dog ) and the more I have seen it the more I love it ,I think it gets better with age
I like how sketchy and stylistic it looks, really reflecting the at the tim contemprary early 60's london setting .The film opens with an adorable meet cute between George and Anita orchestrated by Pongo. I love the voice work of Rod Taylor as Pongo (And am amused it was recorded when he was mostly known for radio but due to how long animation takes released after his star making role in the Time Machine ,so the film accidently has a star lead ) as well as the great vocal performances by Ben Wright ,Lis Davis ,J PAt O Malley ,Martha Wentwoth , and David Frankham .I find the main characters likeable , I adore the side characters ,especially Sergent Tibbs a heroic cat character (Rare for Disney )who is one of the most underrated Disney characters ever .The animation is really good,I especially like the technique they use for cars ,which leads to a pretty awesome car chase finale .There is some great comedy (Love the Whats My Line parody ) and its just adorable, good movie if your a dog person which I am
However I gotta talk about the BEST aspect of the movie :Cruella De Ville, one of Disneys greatest villains. She works on two levels; When your a child she is FRIGHTENING ,with the fact she kind of looks like a walking corpse ,her fits of rage and the fact she wants to murder puppies....And while she is still intimidating ,the older I get the more I see the comedy of her ,she is so over the top vile ,she is such a over dramatic diva I kind of love her .The part that makes me laugh is when her pen isnt working and she just screams"Blast this pen! Blast this WRETCHED WRETCHED PEN !!!".She is so extra ,and is a masterpiece of character animation by Marc Davis ,animating possibly his best character ever ,with this thin figure engulfed in this giant coat .Also much love to Betty Lou Gerson who sounds like she is having a ball ,and no disrespect to any actress to play the role, especially Glenn Close and Susanne Blakeslee cause they were great too,but Betty Lou Gerson is the definitive CRuella
So I do have one issue with the film and thats after the dogs escape Hell Hall ,and before the climatic car chase the film kind of grinds to a halt for me . Also I have always had mixed emotions on Cruellas ending ,cause I both like it and dont
Overall I love this movie ,its such a blast to watch
