Arms
Tumblr media
pairing : sirius black x reader
fandom : marauders/hp
synopsis : sirius realizes there's no place that feels more like home than your arms.
warnings : self depreciating thoughts, insecurity
a/n : felt like wandering into the realm of the marauders! do let me know if you want more :) inspired mildly by francesca by Hozier
sirius sat with james, while remus and peter sat across from them, both pouring liberal amounts of gravy onto their plates. james was also digging into an obnoxiously large amount of roast potatoes and chicken, barely pausing for a breath as he scarfed down the food.
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧
the great hall was not buzzing with the sound of students chattering as it usually did, and the sound remained at the decibel of a small hive of bees, while the professors murmured softly at the grand table, the munch of the many treats laid on the table for the christmas eve dinner.
sirius himself didn't feel that hungry, fork half heartedly poking at the beans on his plate. his eyes roamed around the hall, taking in the tiny mass of people at the other tables, and at dumbledore pulling mice out of his purple witches hat - his christmas special.
that very morning, his owl had dropped off a rather nasty howler from his darling mother, once again choosing to call him a colourful variety of insults and ending with her usual "disgrace and traitor to the black boodline" bullshit, followed by a chorus of "mixing with mudbloods and muggles" that had him clenching his fists in frustration.
then, his father orion had also decided to grace him with a scathing letter he burned the moment he received, but not before catching the words "shame to my bloodline", which once again had him sighing and rubbing the sore spot on his temples.
he had ignored it initially, focusing instead on the beautiful hand knitted scarf, golden watch and basket of sweets and treats he had received from euphemia and fleamont, with a small engraved gryffindor lion at the back of the watch.
he had also received a leather jacket from you, and homemade strawberry pies that you had made with help from the elves in the kitchen, and a set of silver rings to go with his pre existing ones.
remus had gifted him a muggle record called rumors from a band called Fleetwood Mac, that you had freaked out over and told him you'd listen to together because they were your favourite band ever and you'd be damned if he discovered your favourites on the album without you.
james himself had bought him bundles full off tricks and games from hogsmeade, and a framed picture of the marauders, along with a small replica of his own quidditch jersey because, "everyone has to know you're my number one fan pads!"
even marlene had gifted him a bunch of chocolate frogs, and mary had got him a postcard from venezuela and chocolate because her parents were visiting. lily had sent him muggle posters of his favorite bands as well.
but despite the merriment, the niggling insecurity of not being enough played on his mind the whole time, creeping like a shadow, insecurity slithering through the corridors of his mind, casting doubts where there once was light.
his mind was spiralling, as he looked at his plate, gulping as a sudden lump appeared in his throat. james was reading a letter from his mum to remus and peter, telling him about their travels in egypt, and peters mum had sent sweets for them to share at dinner.
oh how he longed for a mom who would write him sweet letters and send him sugary treats instead of venom coated words and flame bursting letters, a father who would teach him how to tie his tie properly for class, or tell him tales of his childhood.
sirius longed for a family to love and hold him always. and the closest he had to that was you and james.
as his thoughts turned to you, he was distracted by a sudden crash as the doors were flung open, as you rushed in, followed by the two friends with whom you sang as part of the hogwarts band, your red robes flaring as you rushed to find your spot beside him at the table.
with a pant, you flung yourself down, taking heaving breaths to calm your racing heart.
"well hello little miss" james said through a mouthful of peas, making you scrunch your nose in disapproval. "where were ya?" remus asked, piling on food onto your plate before it changed course.
"i was at band practice! we just lost track of time and then had to rush because we were so hungry!" you exclaimed, while your hands reached for sirius' under the table, taking his cold palm in yours, squeezing it tenderly to get the blood flow back in them, bringing it up for a quick peck to the knuckles before interlacing his fingers with yours.
sirius felt his heart physically slow down as he watched you, laughing a joke remus made, poking fun at james and messing around with peter. he watched as you cut the roasted potatoes into smaller chunks, dipping them in extra butter as you popped them into your mouth, and the way your eyes sparkled when you smiled.
he watched the way your hair fell, little strands framing your face as you brushed them off impatiently, all while leaning forward for a slice of a chocolate tart and icecream that had just appeared.
he watched as you put a slice of apple pie on his plate, topping it with a healthy dollop of cream, and passing it to him with a saccharine sweet smile and a murmur of "your favourite siri!" and he felt his heart flutter again.
what he didn't note was the crease in your eyebrow as you looked at your friend, the darl circles under his eyes, the slight stoop to his posture, the way his smile came out forced, lips pressed tight together with none of his gorgeous smile lines appearing around his eyes and lips.
he failed to note the way you drew a sharp breath when you felt the rough skin of his palms, coarse from all the times he dug his nails into the delicate skin to control the rage and hurt he felt at his family. the way your eyes softened as you looked at him, the way his lack of obnoxiously lewd jokes and quick wit made him look so vulnerable that it shattered your heart into a million pieces.
after the crackers were pulled and you had packed up a "grow your own warts" kit and many a butterbeer flavoured candy and a few white mice, he squeezed your hand again, gesturing towards the gryffindor common room, leaving the boys chatting with a few members of the ravenclaw quidditch team who had stayed back for christmas as well.
murmuring the password to the fat lady, you stumbled into the common room with sirius, who had his arm wrapped tightly around your waist. you sunk into your favourite armchair, and giggled when sirius fell into you with a muffled "thump"
even though you were 'just friends', you knew him better than anyone else and he knew it as well as you did.
the cozy red armchair with its plush cushioning looked as inviting as ever as he settled into it, legs haphazardly tossed over yours. affection was a major part of your relationship with sirius, having become fast friends since the first year at hogwarts.
ever since you were joint at the hip, bonding over a shared love of music, shared comfort in silence, shared trauma and a love for leather. you were as much a part of the marauders as any of the other boys, and sirius couldn't quite point to the time when you had become such fast friends.
he buried his head into the crook of your neck, inhaling deeply, absorbing the lilting notes of vanilla and shea, and fiddling with the loose strands of hair at the base of your neck. you hummed softly, some melody that had been playing on your mind, hands gently running through his dark locks, nails scratching softly at his scalp.
"you okay?" you asked, noting the tenseness of his shoulder muscles, and the still present frown between his eyebrows.
a non commital shrug was the only response.
worry began to seep into your mind, surprised at how your usually bubbly bestfriend was decidedly unbubbly.
"you don't seem okay babe" you stated, lifting his chin so he was looking at you.
his stormy gray eyes reflected doubt and insecurity dancing like lightning, casting shadows of uncertainty that loomed deep in his mind.
to your surprise, tears welled up in his eyes, mirroring raindrops, poignant with a tempest of emotions swirling within, creating a tumultuous scene of vulnerability and insecurity.
"oh sweetheart.." you cooed softly, shuffling so he was engulfed in your arms. you felt him bury his face deeper into your neck, clinging to you desperately as if he was worried you'd disappear into thin air.
"talk to me honey" you whispered, trying to coax him out of his hiding place.
just as he opened his mouth to speak, the door to the common room swung open and remus james and peter trooped in, followed by a few other gryffindors.
they stopped short, taking in the scene before them, their best mate in tears in the arms of the girl he loved who happened to be his best friend.
"mate are you-" james began, only to be cut off by a glare from remus.
"who don't you go up to our dorm y/n? I'll make sure no one goes up" remus said, staring at your pointedly, offering a soft smile to you when you nodded.
"i think we'll take you up on the offer, is that okay with you siri?" you asked, still softly stroking his hair.
he nodded against you, and followed you silently as you took his hand in yours and draped an arm around his torso, pressing a kiss to his temple as you led him up the winding staircase to the boys dormitory.
as soon as you were inside, you led him over to his bed, gently pushing him down so he was sitting, eyes looking unseeingly at the posters and polaroids that graced his headboard.
with worried eyes, you watched his gaze flicker back and forth, trying to fight back the tears that threatened to spill over.
"talk to me siri, im right here" you cooed, kneeling down in front of him, hands resting on his knees, drawing tiny circles with your pinky over the material of his robes.
"are you here with me love?" you asked, watching the black in his pupils darken as he spaced out. you watched as he jolted a little, looking at you almost alarmed, before the tears began to drip down his cheeks.
the first drop had you sprinting into his arms, wrapping your own tightly around him, kicking your shoes off as you squeezed him tight, knees resting in between his own, as he sobbed into your chest.
you'd seen him cry before, but never like this. broken sobs spilled from his salty lips, dampening the material of your robes, and small choked sounds escaped his lips, along with deep strangled breaths as he gripped your waist to keep himself grounded.
he cried for what seemed like hours while you whispered sweet reassurances to him, kissing his cheeks, his nose, his forehead and his hands, placing his hand on your chest to feel the steady beating of your heart.
"m' right here darling, let it all go, I've got you, i promise, I'll be right here to hold you honey" you whispered to him, rocking him back and forth like a child.
sirius gripped you even tighter, clinging to you as if you were his lifeline.
eventually, his sobs slowed, and he pulled back, eyes red and swollen and face glistening with tears. even when his hair was messy and he looked like a wreck, he looked ethereal.
"oh my beautiful boy" you said, kissing the top of his head. "tell me what you need" you said, interlacing your hands.
"you, just need you" he said, and the way his broke on the word 'you' shattered your heart into a million pieces.
"just give me one second darling, okay?" you said, walking into their bathroom and taking out a clean handkerchief from your pocket. you soaked it in some water, bringing it back to him, gently wiping his eyes and then his face with it, leaving kisses on every spot you cleaned for him, before taking a comb from his nightstand and slowly untangling the mess that his hair was.
sirius watched as you combed his hair, eyebrows furrowed in attention, and he swore his heart fell even more for you.
"d'ya think you can tell me what's wrong sugar?" you asked, biting you lip when he flashed you a smile at the nickname.
"yeah" he nodded, tugging you down so you were cuddled into his side. "oh wait!" you exclaimed, fishing some chocolate out your pocket and offering a piece.
he took it with a smile, letting it melt on his tongue as he looked at you.
you were now snuggled into his shoulder, your ankle intertwined with his as you lay across from him, hand gently holding his, as his other hand traced patterns on your hip.
"darling mother of mine sent me a howler this morning for a christmas present" he said with a dry chuckle.
"did she now?" you said, anger simmering deep in your bones. "yeah, and then sperm donator sent me a lovely letter as well" he said, chuckling a little at his own nickname for his father.
"mmhmm" you said, tracing his thumb.
"yeah, jus' caught me off guard" he mumbled
"you do know that whatever they say is not true, right?" you asked, looking straight into his eyes.
"yeah but- fuck, darling, it gets hard sometimes. sometimes I feel like I am a traitor and failure. sometimes i feel like I'm not worthy of being a human, I'm not worthy of being a friend, I'm not worthy of being loved i-" he broke off, looking at the ceiling.
"you are more than just a name, sirius. you are worthy of being loved. you are worthy of being human, and you are worthy enough to have friends who care about you" you said firmly, forcing him to look back at you.
"it just hurts me sometimes" he admitted
"i know sweetheart" you cooed again. you felt like no words you said were enough when it came to this topic.
"am i really worthy of being loved?" he asked suddenly, turning his face to look at you.
"of course" you said. the silence got louder for a moment. "siri?" you asked, voice lighter than honeycomb.
"theres something Ive been wanting to tell you" he got out in a rush. "ever since we met on the train on our way here, from the tender age of eleven, my heart silently declared its allegiance to you. each passing day has been a testament to a love that started as a whisper and has grown into a resounding echo in my soul. darling, with every sunrise and every moonlit night, my affection for you deepens, as if there's an infinite well within me, filling with the boundless affection i hold for you. you are the constant melody in the symphony of my existence, and i fall harder for you with each beat of my heart" he said, turning to look at you.
you felt tears welling in your own eyes, and it only felt right when you leaned forward, pressing your soft lips to his slightly chapped ones.
to him, you tasted of strawberries and cocoa, warm and sweet and oh so extravagant, a taste so luxurious he couldn't get enough of it.
to you, he tasted of cigarette smoke, mint and cocoa, an intoxicating taste you couldn't get enough of
his lips pressed deeper against yours, hand grasping your waist tightly, pulling you flush against him, as he poured all his love and passion out for you.
time stopped, the world slowed and your heartbeat dropped to the lowest of lows. relaxed. calm. loved.
finally, when your lungs began to burn from the lack of oxygen, you drew away, chests heaving as you looked at each other.
a slight flush lay on his cheeks, tinges of red littering his cheekbones. you could feel a heat thrumming in your own cheeks, and your heart felt like it was racing a million miles an hour.
"i don't know how long I've waited to say that to you" he breathed out, nuzzling his nose to yours.
"since our shared days at eleven, my heart has been a clandestine haven for the enchantment you brought into my life. you don't know how happy you made me with this. in the quiet dance of our days, my affection for you has blossomed into a resplendent garden, and with every sunrise, I find myself immersed deeper in the captivating allure of our love. you are the symphony that resonates in my heart, and i cherish you always" you told him, pressing a kiss to the swell of his cheekbone.
sirius felt his cheeks burn a deep red, and he tilted your lips up to press a searing kiss to them again.
"i love you" he gasped against your lips, drawing you closer to him.
"i love you too" you murmured against his lips moulding your body to him.
and as sirius lay there in your arms, pressing kisses as sweer and delicate as spun sugar against every part of your body but especially your lips, he realised there was no other place that felt more like home than your arms.
you.
you were his home.

Marauders era Headcanons
I’ll be adding to this throughout the storyline
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Sirius Black:
- Partially Deaf, because there is no way he came out inbred and totally unscathed.
- Genderfluid because he’s an indecisive bitch
- Loves when his hair is braided no matter how much he says otherwise (also likes his head scratched)
- Paints his nails just to chip them cause he thinks it looks hot (same thing with smudging eyeliner)
- Calls Lily ‘Evans’, until she and James get together then he calls her ‘Mrs. Potter’
- annoyed he has to share James
- Fidgets with his hair and finger/rings constantly, because he definitely had ADD
- Makes this claw thingy with his hand when he’s nervous (if you know where this is from ily)
- Can dance REALLY WELL (ballet), because of that pure blood privilege, and does the stance naturally
-Can play the violin but is embarrassed so learns guitar so if someone asks him if he plays an instrument he can just say that instead
- Sexuality = Hot people aka Remus Lupin ( he’s just a whore idk what else to say)
-Touch starved/attention whore
- Such a fucking G, this man would riot for anything his friends ask
- If you walked into his closet you would think two people put their stuff in there, no, just him
- Speaks French
Remus Lupin:
- Poor boy is depressed
- And actually poor which is why he sells weed or other muggle things (he hustles the shit out of the students at Hogwarts by saying everything is ‘exotic’ and they believe him because everyone thinks he’s smart)
- Touch starved but doesn’t like to be touched (if you know you know)
-Bisexual panic. All. The. Time.
-Oblivious as hell to the fact everyone wants him— I mean everyone
- Loves tea. SO. MUCH. TEA.
- Has a book club with Lily
- Got a ton of piercings and tattoos over fifth year’s summer, but people rarely see them cause he’s always wearing sweaters or covered up some how
-His whole closet look like it should belong to an old man, yet he still slays
- Bites his lips and inside of cheek a lot, so James carries around lip balm for him
- When he’s high he’s chill
- But he’s hysterical when he’s drunk
-Can read multiple languages, but his pronunciation is god awful (Sirius makes fun of him for it)
-Has Chocolate on hand at all times because once he didn’t and he threw Snape across the classroom
-Man is an uncoordinated tree
James Potter:
- Both the Mom and child of the group somehow
- Takes lots of naps
-Sorry to say but Gryffindor is his personality
- Foot taps
- Holy shit this guy is ADHD
- ‘Bambi’ is his other nickname, and he thinks it’s cute until he watches the movie
- The healthiest mentally of the group
- Golden retriever vibes
- If James hasn’t seen Sirius within 30 minutes and he doesn’t know where he is, he gets panicked
-Has a thing for Youngest siblings apparently (Lily and Regulus)
-Obsessed with Babies
- Definition of himbo sometimes
- He’s good at every sport he tries
- Queer
- Trained Sirius not to say Mudblood throughout first and second year
Peter Pettigrew:
- Trans (I’ll go more in-depth later)
- Ace
- if Social anxiety was a person
- Bakes like an absolute KING
- Chews fingernails, so Sirius got him leather gloves to matches his own to get him to stop
- Knows random shit/facts
-also knows everyone’s business because no one pays him any attention
- Short king
- Hilarious, practically makes the group piss themselves when alone in the common room
- Loves everything fuzzy
- Has been in love with Mary since third or fourth year, but hasn’t said anything because he knew about her and Lily
- Has family trauma too, but he doesn’t thinks it’s enough to complain about because of what he’s seen with Sirius
- Was the first to master turning into an animagus
-As bad as Sirius and James with worrying about his hair, just less loud about it
-He knew about wolfstar before James
Lily Evans:
-Pansexual
- Politics Queen
- As sassy and sarcastic as Sirius
-Stress cleans
- the Left corner of her forehead twitches when she’s mad
- Thick girl (her thighs are HUGE and James practically drools over them 24/7, respectively ofc)
- Short 5’
- the others have to keep her within arms reach because she gets lost easily in crowds, her hair is the only thing that helps
- Human calculator (she gets perfect marks on every subject EXCEPT DADA, which is the class Sirius and James do; it annoys her to no end)
- Most likely to actually throw hands
- Fangirls openly about book characters (with Remus)
- Can’t sing to save her life (poor babe just wants to sing abba, but she just ends up being made fun of)
-Vowed to not cut her hair until she graduated, so around sixth year she had to start braiding it because if she didn’t she’d sit on it
- Can forge a signature/handwriting very well
- Is actually really insecure about her magical abilities because of the rift it caused between her and Petunia
Marlene McKinnon:
-Lesbian
-The only person to actually make her question her sexuality is Remus, and that’s because it’s fucking Remus Lupin
- During fourth year when her and Sirius were ‘dating’, they were just teaching each other how to flirt with girls/guys and they’d kiss just to practice
-Obsessed with Piercings (begged Remus to give her a couple after he told her about how he had the supplies)
- One of the best players on the Gryffindor Quidditch team/ uses it as anger management (Beater position)
-Her and Sirius have an agreement to tell each other the weekly outfit plan so they don’t wear the same thing or color (red or black mostly)
- Roasting people is her platonic love language
-Can play every band instrument
-She looks like a tough, rocker chick but is a softie for Dorcas
- Intimidates everyone because she’s low key buff (can bench more than James and Sirius combined) and super tall (looks like a giant next to Lily)
-Can’t speak in front of Dorcas at first, yet Dorcas understands her
-Big on PDA which leads to Sirius gagging obnoxiously
-Her and Sirius “fighting” is for show so people stop shipping them together/ teasing them
- Dyslexic so Lily and Dorcas read to her if there’s anything important (which leads to them doing it even if she’s not around)
-Simps for James Mum (but who wouldn’t)
Dorcas Meadowes:
- Part of the Slytherin skittles
- Non-binary
-Demisexual
- Dark humor and it’s worse when she’s around Regulus and Barty
- Nyx is her first girl kiss in my oc story (Marlene probably was for every other story)
-Big softy when it comes to Marlene
-Resting bitch face
- Amazing artist/ sketching Marlene constantly
- Makes jewelry (Marlene and her matching rings, and friendship bracelets/ necklaces for the others that they can never take off— she warns them before hand)
- Will go batshit crazy if she stays up after 12 am
-Gets super competitive when playing Quidditch
- Rants about how much she loves pockets every 20 minutes
- Instinctively moves closer to someone she knows when she’s in public
- More introverted than the rest, would rather stay in the common room and chill
-makes a ton of your mom jokes
Mary Macdonald:
- Pansexual or Polysexual
-She loves to embroidery/making clothes, so if anyone needs something made or tailored they go to her
-Hypes everyone up all the time, ‘don’t disrespect yourself’ vibe
- Has the best alcohol tolerance in the group
-James potter triggers her for a multitude of reasons; they have a banter relationship
- She always has what you need in her bag— like Mary Poppins
-Lily was her first love and friend
- SUCH a good listener (like I know canon Remus and Lily would be the best listeners, but I think it’s Mary)
- Both her and Remus had a glow up fourth year and everyone wants to either be them or be with them
- Loves dancing, will do it randomly while doing absolutely anything
-Hates cold weather, she’ll literally wear five jackets DON’T play
-Has had or does have a eating disorder because of societal pressure of internal judgment; not to mention people definitely paint her out to be a ‘slag’ because she happens to be more open about her sexuality (and they don’t do it to Sirius because we live in a fucked patriarchy)
- Will scream “fuck the police” or “fuck the Patriarchy” when running away from an authority figure (or just Lily/Remus)
-vegetarian
-Extroverted (loves to be around people/hates being alone)
Regulus Black:
- Asthma (again, can’t escape inbreeding completely)
-Has permanent dark circles, yet he still looks beautiful??? Looks like eyeshadow to be real
- Demisexual
-trans
-Scratching his knuckles is a severe nervous tick of his
-Writes poetry and short stories
- Plays the piano
-Started playing quidditch to interact with Sirius more and to impress him (but as he got older he didn’t really give a shit anymore)
-Speaks French and Reads Latin
-Really into Astronomy
- He had a crush on James in fifth year but didn’t pursue it because he still somewhat resented him for having Sirius all to himself (and he knew Sirius would get mad)
-Cusses a lot when around his friends
-Best poker face, could lie to anyone and get away with it
-Photographic memory
-Nice to all the House elves (and all the Marauders except Sirius and James)
Pandora, Evan, and Barty
Evan and Pandora are siblings
Everyone in the Marauders and Slytherin Skittles have agreed that Pandora has to be protected at all cost
What they don’t know is that this girl is lethal (Carries around potions she’s created that could burn through steel)
Barty is hella gay, psychotic, and a bit of a pyro
Barty is also low key obsessed with Regulus
Evan is in love with Barty
Rosekiller is a thing, and it is toxic (don’t we just love it)
I’ll probably add more for Barth, Evan, and Pandora later

Hiii how are you? ✨️ Can you write Sirius Black and the Slytherin reader? The reader's family is a Voldemort followers but she never wants to go down that path. She's a really good person. She has more in common with Sirius than they realize. Sirius starts to have feelings for her, but after all, she's a Slytherin and her family are really bad, so Sirius doesn't want to admit it but continues to observe and watch the reader over time. After a while, he begins to test her patience and reactions. Even though these two idiots insist on admitting it even to themselves, fate may have written them together. They will have to discover this. They seem like they were created for each other in these difficult conditions.~
My favorite boy Sirius ahhhh!! Yes, you got this. I love love love getting HP requests. I sooo wish we would get more on the marauders instead of a remake of HP but I digress...
This has a lot of potential to go from angsty. Maybe the boys are mean to her bc she's easy to pick on, she's too nice to defend herself and thinks she kinda deserves it bc of who her family is :( Sirius is kinda playing both sides. He's joined up as your potions partner for the year and he sees how kind and how scared you truly are. It reminds him of him. He also joins in on pranking you, being mean to you etc until he's finally had enough. After a particularly nasty prank or something he finds you crying and it all spills out from you. How much you hate your life, your family, how you're scared to go home etc. and it hits him then the parallels between you and him. Ofc a happy ending :)

How do we feel about full length fics centered around OCs? Would I benefit more from making an AO3 account to post said fic types or is Tumblr a fine place to start?

The train lurched again, harder this time, throwing Sirius sideways into the wall. His hand shot out instinctively, grabbing Cordelia by the arm before she could stumble. Glass crunched beneath their feet as the four of them staggered into the corridor.
The sound of screams hit them immediately—high-pitched, panicked cries from somewhere farther down the train. The lights flickered overhead.
“Stay close,” Sirius muttered, his grip on Cordelia’s wrist like iron. She didn’t flinch, her face pale but resolute.
James and Lily scrambled out behind them, wands already in hand. The door to the next compartment burst open, and Marlene, Dorcas, and Peter spilled out, their faces streaked with sweat and soot.
“What the hell is going on?” Marlene demanded as she adjusted her grip on her wand.
“Death Eaters,” Remus spoke. His wand was drawn, his face set grimly. “A bunch of them, I think. Toward the front. People are freaking out.”
Peter’s face blanched. “What—why? What’s the point of attacking a train full of students?”
“Right,” Sirius sneered, his voice dripping with venom. “Because Death Eaters are known for their brilliant logic. Very sharp observation, Pete.”
“Shut it, Sirius,” Lily snapped, her sharp tone silencing him before he could add more. “We need a plan.”
« What we need, » James said, stepping forward, his voice calm but urgent, «is to get everyone off. »
“Off the train?” Marlene echoed, incredulous. “How, exactly? You want to shove a hundred kids out the windows one by one?”
“No,” James rolled his eyes, already striding toward the nearest exit. “The doors, dummy.” He yanked the emergency handle, throwing it open, and immediately stumbled back as the roar of the wind and the blur of the countryside slammed into them.
The train was still at full speed.
“That’s not happening,” Lily said sharply, slamming the door shut again.
“We could fly,” Peter suggested weakly, gripping the edge of the wall to steady himself.
“All the brooms are in storage,” Sirius snapped, his voice rising with frustration. “And last I checked, none of us can fly bare-arsed.”
“Disapparate, then?” James suggested
“Do you have a death wish?” Dorcas barked. “You had to re-take your test 6 times and now you want to try apparating out of a moving train? There’s a brilliant idea, Potter.”
“Besides,” Lily added, her voice tight, “there aren’t nearly enough of us licensed to get everyone off to safety.”
“I’m going to the driver’s cabin,” Marlene suddenly declared, her voice cutting through the noise. Her wand was already raised, her tone resolute. “We stop the train; we stop the chaos.”
“Are you mental?” Dorcas grabbed her arm, her eyes wide. “You can’t go alone.”
“Well, I’m not staying—”
“I’ll go with her,” Remus interrupted. His gaze lingered on Dorcas briefly, as if asking her to trust him.
Dorcas hesitated, her grip tightening on Marlene’s arm. When she finally spoke, her voice dropped to something softer, steadier. “Be careful?”
Marlene smirked faintly, “Aren’t I always?”
They watched as Remus and Marlene quickly disappeared into the dark corridor, their footsteps swallowed by the growing chaos.
Lily turned back to the group, her wand still gripped tightly. “If they can’t stop the train, we need another way to get these kids off.”
“I’m all out of ideas,” James sighed.
A couple of breathless Hufflepuffs ran past them, telling them to hide or run for their lives.
“Oh, boy..” Peter shuddered nervously to himself.
“What about Portkeys?” Lily finally asked.
They all turned to look at Dorcas.
The girl let out a bitter laugh, pushing hair out of her face as the train jolted again, nearly knocking her into the wall. She was the only one in the group who had managed to create a half-decent Portkey during her Charms NEWTs exam. Emphasis on half. “You want me to whip up a Portkey here? Best case, we land in the middle of the Atlantic. Worst case—”
“What other option do we have?” Lily interrupted, placing a steadying hand on her shoulder. “Besides,” she continued, as the crack of spells started ringing down the corridor, “better lost at sea than dead, right?”
“Fantastic morale boost, Evans,” Sirius muttered under his breath.
A loud crash echoed from farther ahead, followed by the sound of glass shattering.
“You know,” James gulped, his voice suddenly pitched higher than usual, “I have been meaning to work on my backstroke, anyway.
Peter let out a nervous laugh. “Same here. Always fancied myself a swimmer.”
Dorcas’s glare snapped to the both of them. “I don’t even remember the proper process,” she said, throwing her hands in the air.
“Just get it from your textbook,” Sirius suggested, though his voice wavered like he already regretted saying it.
Dorcas turned on him, her frustration spilling out. “And why on earth would I have my bloody textbook, Sirius? It’s in storage. With the rest of my luggage!”
“Wait,” James said suddenly, his face lighting up like he’d just solved one of Flitwick’s riddles. “No, it’s not. It’s in your bag.”
“It most definitely is not,” Dorcas hissed.
“Yes, it is,” James insisted, already moving toward the compartment. “I saw it earlier.”
“I think I’d know what I did and didn’t pack this morning, Potter!” Dorcas snapped, hearing as he rifled through the compartment.
There was a moment of silence, punctuated only by the rattling of the train and James muttering, “It was here, I swear—aha!”
He stumbled back out, triumphant, holding a charm book aloft like he’d discovered the Holy Grail. “See?” he said, his grin wide as he shoved it into her hands.
Dorcas stared at the object, her expression unreadable for a long moment. She looked genuinely confused. Then, her eyes narrowed dangerously. “What were you doing earlier going through my bag, you pervert?” She gasped, her eyes widening and nostrils flaring, “you’re the one who stole my chocolate, aren’t you?”
“Is this really the time for this?” James fired back, though the blush creeping up his ears betrayed him.
“Merlin, help me,” Dorcas’s jaw tightened as she flipped the book open. “Fine. But if we end up in a volcano, I’m haunting the lot of you.” She grabbed her bag from James and started shoving random objects into it—a comb, a snapped quill, a Chocolate Frog wrapper. “I’ll need somewhere quiet to work. Out of the way.”
“Well, good luck with that,” Sirius snickered.
The train rattled again, the lights flickering dangerously overhead. For a moment, no one spoke.
“The back of the train.”
All eyes turned to Cordelia.
It was the first time she’d spoken since the commotion had begun. Her voice was calm, even as her knuckles whitened against the edge of the wall.
“What?” Sirius asked, frowning.
Cordelia’s expression didn’t waver. “The very last car. It’s protected. Get the students there, use the Portkeys to take off out when y-we’re ready.”
“What do you mean, protected?” James asked, clearly confused.
“I—I must’ve read it somewhere,” Cordelia stammered. Her voice faltered for only a moment, but Sirius’s narrowed gaze lingered on her.
Before he could press her further, James clapped his hands together, his jaw set. “Alright, Moony and Marlene stop the train. Students to the back. Dorcas gets the Portkeys working. Piece of cake,” he said, though it was clear he was trying to convince himself.
“B-but—what do we do in the meantime?” Peter asked, his voice trembling as another crash echoed through the train.
Sirius’s grip on his wand tightened, his knuckles white. His voice was low, grim. “I think that’s obvious, Wormtail.”
Lily raised her wand, her chin lifting defiantly as her gaze swept over the group. Her voice cut through the chaos like a blade.
“We fight.”
As though on cue, a Ravenclaw third-year stumbled into view, his robes torn and streaked with soot, eyes wide with fear. His voice broke as he gasped, “They’re coming—they’re coming down the train!”
For a moment, no one moved.
Sirius was the first to react, shoving past the boy into the corridor, his wand already raised.
“Get to the back,” he snapped over his shoulder, not looking back. His voice was sharp, cutting through the din like a crack of thunder. “And tell everyone else to go there too. Now!”
The boy nodded frantically, his breath hitching as he stumbled down the corridor, half-running, half-falling.
Dorcas moved next, stepping forward with purpose. « I’ll help him and get cracking on the portkeys, » she said briskly, already turning to follow.
« Good, » Sirius muttered, his focus snapping back to the corridor ahead.
Behind him, Cordelia was close—closer than he realized until he felt the faint brush of her sleeve against his arm. Her wand was clutched tightly in her hand, her face ashen but set with determination.
Sirius turned to her, his jaw tightening. “You go with Dorcas,” he said, his voice firm but strained.
She shook her head, « Sirius—”
“Cord,” he interrupted, his tone sharper than he intended. His gaze softened, but his resolve didn’t waver. “You’re clearly not well. You can’t—”
« I said no. »
Her voice was steady, almost startling in its strength. She straightened, her grip on her wand steadying as she met his gaze. “I have to be there,” she murmured, though the words seemed more for herself than for him.
His chest tightened painfully, his breath catching in his throat. Why? The question burned on the tip of his tongue, but he swallowed it. He didn’t want the answer. Not now.
Instead, he searched her face, as if looking for something—an excuse, a reason, a crack in her resolve. But he knew better than to argue with her when she looked at him like that. She’d already made up her mind.
Sirius cursed under his breath, his resolve crumbling like ash. “Alright then,” he said finally, He stepped closer, his hand brushing up her arm. « Stay close to me, » he murmured, « At all times. Do you hear me? »
Her eyes softened—just for a moment, just enough to break him—and she nodded.
Sirius didn’t stop there. He leaned down, pressing a kiss to her forehead. It wasn’t rushed or distracted—it lingered, a brief pause in the chaos, a silent promise that neither of them dared put into words.
When he pulled back, his gaze lingered on hers for a moment longer than it should have, as if trying to memorize her face.
« I mean it, » he whispered as he pulled back. « Don’t leave my sight. »
Sirius turned to see James and Lily holding hands, Peter standing awkwardly to the side. “Let’s go,” he declared finally, his tone hardening again as he turned back toward the corridor.
They decisively stepped towards chaos ahead.
Smoke billowed through the shattered windows, mixing with the flicker of malfunctioning lights overhead. The air tasted like soot and magic, and the metallic groan of the train’s frame shuddering under the strain was punctuated by the sharp crack of spells ricocheting off the walls.
Students flooded the corridor, tripping over one another as they scrambled toward the back, some clutching younger classmates, others crying or screaming for friends.
“Keep moving!” Lily’s voice rang out, sharp and authoritative. Her wand was raised, and with a quick flick, she conjured a glowing barrier between a group of terrified first-years and an oncoming spell that scorched the wall behind them. “Get to the back—now!”
Peter was already crouched beside a Hufflepuff fourth-year, helping the boy to his feet. “Come on, come on,” he urged, his voice shaky but persistent. He half-carried the boy down the corridor, glancing nervously over his shoulder as another explosion rocked the train.
Sirius’s heart pounded in his chest as he cast a Stunning Spell at a masked figure darting through the smoke. The Death Eater crumpled, and Sirius didn’t hesitate, spinning to aim another curse down the corridor. James was at his side, moving like they’d rehearsed it a hundred times.
“On your left!” James shouted, and Sirius turned just in time to deflect a curse aimed at his shoulder.
“Nice one, James,” Sirius called, grinning despite the chaos.
“Don’t get used to it,” James shot back, firing off a hex that sent another Death Eater staggering back into the smoke.
Sirius almost felt a pang of guilt as he realised he was almost enjoying the moment. The thrill of it all. He’d be lying if he said he hadn’t been eager to join. Take part in the fight. It felt right.
Sirius’s grin faltered when his gaze flicked to Cordelia. She was standing several feet away, her wand raised but her movements hesitant. She stood there, pale and frozen, her dark eyes wide as they darted around the corridor.
Sirius’s stomach twisted. She knew how to fight. Hell, she was better than most of them. He’d seen her prowess in duels, and had been on the receiving end more than he cared to admit.
But now—amid the chaos, she looked—lost.
“Cord!” he shouted, his voice cutting through the din. “Get behind me—quick!”
Her head snapped toward him but she stayed still.
Before Sirius could reach her, another blast shook the train, throwing him against the wall.
“Damnit!” Marlene’s voice rang out above the chaos as she and Remus stumbled into the corridor, both of them looking like they’d just walked through hell. Marlene’s hair was wild, her robes torn at the sleeve and splattered with something dark. Remus was limping, his wand raised defensively as sparks flew from his free hand.
“The driver’s cabin’s a no-go!” Remus shouted, his voice hoarse. “The front cars are crawling with Death Eaters—we couldn’t even get close.”
Marlene staggered to Sirius’s side, breathing heavily. “Your cousin says hi, by the way,” she muttered darkly, her lip curling as she wiped blood from a cut on her forehead.
Sirius’s heart sank. “Bella?”
“Who else?” Marlene hissed. That cunt is having the time of her life up there.”
Remus turned to Lily, panic flashing briefly in his eyes. “If we can’t stop the train, we need another plan. Fast.”
Lily nodded sharply, her mind clearly racing. “Dorcas is working on Portkeys, but we have to buy her time. We hold them off here.”
“Fantastic,” Sirius muttered, deflecting another curse aimed too close to Cordelia. “We’re bloody outnumbered, and they’ve got—”
Marlene darted toward them, dodging spells as she rummaged through her robes. “Guess it’s a good time to try these, huh?” she said, pulling something out.
It was one of the trick bombs Cordelia had brought into the compartment earlier. A green one.
« Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me, » James said, his voice half-exasperated, half-incredulous.
« McKinnon, » Sirius’s eyes widened. « You sneaky little thief! »
“You’re welcome!” Marlene shot back, yanking the pin and lobbing a yellow ball toward the advancing Death Eaters.
It hit the ground with a loud crack, releasing a blinding flash of light and an explosion of vivid, sparkling smoke. The Death Eaters reeled back, disoriented, coughing as the smoke filled the corridor.
“Brilliant,” Sirius muttered under his breath, sparing a glance at Cordelia, who was still standing stiffly, her wand clutched to her chest.
But the relief was short-lived. A Death Eater emerged from the smoke, their mask gleaming in the flickering light. Their wand was raised, and their spell shot straight toward Sirius—
“Protego!”
The shield appeared between him and the curse just in time. Sirius blinked, his gaze snapping to Cordelia. Her wand was still raised, her face pale but set.
“Thanks,” he managed after a beat, his voice strained.
She didn’t reply. She didn’t meet his eyes.
“Wait, no!” Remus’s panicked shout cut through the chaos, his voice sharp enough to snap their heads in his direction. “Not that colour—don’t use the Magenta one!”
Marlene froze for a fraction of a second, the small magenta bomb already in her hand.
“What the bloody hell’s wrong with Magenta?” she snapped, glaring at him.
But it was too late. The fuse hissed ominously as the little ball ignited in her hand.
“Just throw it out!” Sirius bellowed, his voice cracking with urgency.
“Merlin’s pants,” James groaned, shuddering as he threw himself and Lily against the wall. “Everybody take cover!”
Marlene hurled the bomb forward, her arm snapping in one smooth arc. The small, innocent-looking sphere sailed through the smoke-filled corridor and hit the jagged frame of a shattered window.
For a breathless moment, nothing happened.
And then—
The purple bomb detonated with a deafening crack, a blinding flash of light tearing through the train car. The entire side of the train was ripped open, the metallic walls curling outward like paper. Shards of glass and metal rained down, slicing through the air as the floor beneath them quaked violently.
“Shit!” Sirius shouted, his arm shooting up to shield himself and Cordelia as the wind screamed through the jagged opening. It tore at their robes, the sound hollow and relentless, like a beast unleashed.
The train was crossing an aqueduct now, the gaping hole exposing nothing but an expanse of dizzying sky and the endless void below.
“Godric, no!” Lily’s voice suddenly rang out, sharp and terrified, cutting through the roar of the wind.
Sirius turned, his stomach plummeting at the sight before him: a boy—maybe a fourth-year—was flailing, his arms pinwheeling as a Death Eater shoved him toward the edge of the jagged opening. His scream was swallowed by the wind as his body tipped into the void.
“Arresto Momentum!” Lily’s voice slashed through the chaos, her wand carving a sharp arc in the air. The boy’s descent slowed immediately, his body floating just inches from the abyss. She yanked him back to safety with a flick of her wrist, her face pale but resolute.
Sirius barely had time to catch his breath before Marlene moved.
Even wandless, the girl surged forward without hesitation, her boots pounding against the trembling floor. With a feral shriek, she slammed into the Death Eater responsible, her foot driving into their chest with brutal force.
Sirius’s jaw dropped. He’d heard Marlene brag countless times about her black belt—whatever that meant—in Krav Maga. Some Muggle fighting nonsense he’d never paid attention to—but now he understood.
The Death Eater staggered backward, their balance teetering precariously near the edge of the hole. Marlene’s grip was unrelenting, even as her hair whipped back and forth in the wind. With one furious kick to their chest, she sent the masked figure tumbling through the opening, their scream disappearing into the howling void below.
“Bloody hell,” Sirius muttered under his breath, his voice caught somewhere between awe and disbelief.
Marlene stumbled back, panting heavily, hands braced on her knees.
“Remind me never to piss you off,” Sirius said faintly, still staring at the hole where the Death Eater had vanished into the night.
She didn’t answer. Her breathing was shallow but her eyes burned with defiance.
For a fleeting moment, the corridor was eerily still. The sharp wind howled through the jagged hole in the train’s side, carrying the distant hum of retreating footsteps as the remaining Death Eaters disappeared into the smoke.
Sirius lowered his wand, his pulse hammering in his ears. The silence felt fragile, too thin to last. He turned to check on Cordelia—
Only to find the space behind him empty.
His heart stopped.
She wasn’t there.
Sirius spun on his heel, his chest tightening as he scanned the corridor. Students were crouched beneath benches, some trembling, others clutching one another in fear. Lily was helping a dazed second-year to her feet, James’s hand steadying her elbow. Remus was at the far end of the car, half-carrying a bleeding Ravenclaw toward the safety of the back.
But Cordelia was nowhere to be seen.
Sirius called out her name as he pushed past Marlene.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, her brows furrowing as she followed his frantic movements.
“She’s—,” Sirius bit out, his eyes darting frantically through the haze of smoke and flickering light. “She’s gone. She was just here—right here.”
Lily looked up sharply, her hand freezing mid-spell. “What do you mean, gone?”
“I mean she’s not bloody here!” Sirius snapped, his voice louder, harsher than he intended. He didn’t wait for a reply, shoving his way down the corridor toward the shattered opening in the train.
“She must’ve gone to help someone,” James offered, though the doubt in his voice was clear. He jogged after Sirius, his wand gripped tightly in his hand. “maybe she carried some kid to the back?”
But Sirius already felt himself spiraling.
“Don’t panic,” Lily said, catching up to them, her voice steady despite the crackling tension in the air. “We’ll find her.”
“I’m not panicking!” Sirius snapped, his knuckles turned white around his wand as he slammed open the door of each compartment he walked past.
“Mate,” James said gently, his hand catching Sirius’s shoulder to stop him. “She’s probably—”
“Don’t tell me she’s probably fine!” Sirius shoved James’s hand off, his breath coming quicker now. He turned back toward the empty corridor, his mind racing. «Shit—fuck—«  he cursed, kicking a pile of abandoned bags, « I told her not to fucking—fuck! »
What if—
The train jolted violently, throwing them all off balance. Sirius caught himself on the wall, his stomach flipping as he heard a muffled scream from somewhere farther up the train.
Sirius was moving before the sound had fully registered.
“Pads!” James shouted after him, but he didn’t stop. He couldn’t. He pushed past crumpled bags, shattered glass, and a group of students huddling together in tears. The sharp edge of the wind stung his face as he stormed down the corridor.
“Cord!” he called again, his voice echoing down the empty space. The train groaned beneath him, the uneven rhythm of the wheels on the track punctuating his rising panic.
He didn’t notice James catching up until his friend grabbed his arm, yanking him back.
“Stop—just stop for a second!” James’s voice was urgent, his grip firm. “Think. If she’s not with us, she must’ve gone to help Dorcas and the others. »
“She wouldn’t leave,” Sirius hissed through clenched teeth, his chest heaving as his thoughts spiraled faster than he could control. His vision swam, dark spots creeping in at the edges. His legs felt like they could give out at any moment, and the faint sting in his side sharpened into something deeper. Blood. He was bleeding, though he didn’t know where. But he couldn’t stop. He wouldn’t stop.
“Not like this,” he muttered, his voice barely audible over the remaining chaos. “Not without telling me—”
“Wait, pads!” James’s voice cut through the haze, sharp and urgent.
Sirius turned, his breath catching as James pointed to the floor ahead.
Something in the darkness of the corridor.
A flicker of light.
It was so small he might’ve missed it—a faint glow in the middle of the corridor, pulsing faintly like a heartbeat.
Magenta.
« Fuck, » Sirius whispered, his eyes widening as the realization hit him.
“Don’t!” James shouted, his voice rising in panic. “Sirius, stop!”
But Sirius didn’t think. He ran.
The world blurred around him as he surged forward, his boots pounding against the trembling floor. He didn’t breathe, didn’t blink. His heart thundered in his chest as he leapt over the small glowing sphere, his mind screaming at him to keep moving.
He hit the ground hard, his knees buckling as he stumbled forward—
And then he heard it.
A faint click.
Before he could even register the sound, the explosion detonated behind him with a deafening roar.
The force of the blast hit him like a tidal wave, hurling him forward. The corridor became a blur of smoke and shrapnel, the wind howling like a banshee as he was thrown violently down the train.
He didn’t feel the landing—just the jarring crunch of his body colliding with the floor, the edges of his vision fading to black as he skidded to a halt.
For a moment—thirty seconds, maybe more—there was nothing. No sound, no pain, no thought. Just a heavy, suffocating void.
And then, like a cruel jolt back to reality, his ears began to ring.
The sound was piercing, sharp enough to make him wince as he blinked, disoriented. His vision was blurred, his head pounding with the rhythm of his heartbeat. Slowly, he became aware of his surroundings—the acrid stench of smoke, the jagged edges of the shattered corridor walls, the faint flicker of sparking wires overhead.
He groaned, the sound barely audible over the ringing in his ears, and pushed himself onto his elbows. His limbs felt like lead, and every muscle ached as he forced himself to move.
“Fuck,” he muttered, his voice hoarse. He glanced down, his hand brushing against a sharp piece of glass embedded in his sleeve. Blood smeared the floor beneath him, though he couldn’t tell how much was his.
Crawling forward, his palms scraped against the uneven floor as he struggled to his knees.
He turned, his heart sinking as he peered through the haze.
The other side of the train was beyond reach. The blast had torn the train corridor in half, leaving an uncrossable void between him and where James had been standing. The floor was barely holding together, broken mechanisms and sparking wires dangling precariously beneath the shattered edges.
“Prongs!” Sirius shouted, his voice raw. He winced as the ringing in his ears drowned out his own voice. “James!”
No response.
He tried again, louder this time, but the sound seemed to disappear into the void, swallowed by the darkness and the chaos around him.
Panic clawed at his chest, his breathing shallow and uneven as he turned back toward the corridor ahead. He was alone now, and the emptiness stretched out before him like a mocking taunt.
Cordelia.
She was still out there, somewhere ahead. He had to get to her. He pushed himself to his feet, his legs trembling as he limped forward.
Sirius limped forward, his boots dragging against the broken floor. His wand was gone, lost in the explosion, and the weight of its absence felt foreign and wrong. Every step sent a sharp bolt of pain through his side, the ache radiating from what he was certain were bruised or broken ribs.
He didn’t stop. He couldn’t.
The corridor stretched out endlessly before him, a maze of shattered glass, dangling wires, and flickering lights. He tried to focus, to piece together whether he had made it all the way to the front car, but nothing made sense.
The Death Eaters were supposed to be at the front.
That’s what Remus said. That’s what everyone said.
So why was it so quiet?
The only sound was the persistent ringing in his ears, high and sharp and maddening. His head swam, his vision blurring as he stumbled forward, his hands brushing the jagged edges of the corridor walls to keep his balance.
There was nobody here. No Death Eaters. No students. Just the mess left behind—splintered wood, torn fabric, shattered glass glittering like ice across the floor.
Sirius stopped, leaning heavily against the wall as he tried to catch his breath. The pain in his side was sharp now, cutting through his every inhale. He squeezed his eyes shut, willing it away, willing everything away.
Just for a moment. Just to stop the ringing.
But when it stopped, it wasn’t the relief he’d hoped for.
A voice, quiet, soft and measured, cut through the air like a curse.
“I know.”
Sirius’s eyes snapped open, his breath catching in his throat as his head shot up.
The corridor ahead was dark, the light overhead flickering erratically, casting jagged shadows across the wreckage.
The light flickered on long enough for him to take in the scene before him.
His heart stopped.
Far down the corridor, two figures stood in the murky glow. One of them—a young man, tall, poised, his wand held loosely at his side—was unmistakable. Even at a distance, Sirius would recognize Evan Rosier’s aristocratic posture, the way he tilted his head like the world belonged to him.
But it wasn’t Evan who made Sirius’s chest tighten, his pulse thunder in his ears.
It was her.
The moment Sirius saw her, the urgency clawed its way back to the surface, drowning out the pain and the ringing in his ears.
She stood so close to Evan it made Sirius’s stomach churn. Too close. Her head was bowed, her dark hair falling across her face, but her wand was still in her hand, hanging limply at her side. Evan’s hand—that bastard’s hand—was grazing her cheek, his fingers tracing her skin with an intimacy that made the bile rise in Sirius’s throat.
He wanted to scream, to yell at the top of his lungs, but his voice refused to come. All that emerged was a strained rasp as he stumbled forward, his shoulder slamming into the wall to keep himself upright.
The movement caught their attention. Both of them turned to the side, their faces briefly illuminated by the flickering light.
“Get away from her,” Sirius rasped, his throat raw and burning.
Cordelia didn’t move. She didn’t flinch. Her eyes stayed fixed on the floor.
But Evan looked directly at him. His pale blue eyes held Sirius’s gaze, steady and unbothered. He said nothing, his silence more cutting than any insult.
Sirius forced himself forward, his steps uneven and heavy. He didn’t feel the pain anymore, didn’t feel the blood dripping down his side or the ache in his ribs.
“Get away from her!” he growled, louder this time, his voice cracking as he gained speed.
Still, Cordelia didn’t look at him.
She just stood there, her fingers tightening slightly around her wand, her shoulders stiff.
Sirius was close now. He was about to shout again, to close the distance between them, when Cordelia moved.
Her hand rose delicately, trembling slightly, and rested on Evan’s arm. She didn’t pull him back, didn’t shove him away. She simply gripped his bicep and murmured something so soft that Sirius almost didn’t hear it.
But he did.
“Let’s go.”
The words hit him like a physical blow, knocking the air from his lungs.
No.
« No, » Sirius groaned, his pace quickening to a full sprint. « No—»
Evan turned toward her, his expression calm, almost tender, as he reached down and took her hand in his.
Sirius’s voice cracked, his heart pounding in his ears. “Cordelia—”
He was so close now, his arm outstretched, his fingers aching to grab her and pull her away. To hold her and never let go.
She finally looked at him.
Her gaze flickered upward, catching his, just for a second, maybe less. There was something there—something fragile and fleeting, something he couldn’t name before it vanished.
He was so close he could almost feel the fabric of her blouse brushing against his fingertips.
Almost.
And then it happened.
The sharp crack of Disapparition echoed through the corridor, resonating louder than the explosion had.
Sirius’s outstretched hand grasped at empty air, his momentum carrying him forward as he stumbled and fell to his knees right where she had stood a second before. After a beat, the weight of realization slammed into him, crushing every ounce of fight left in his body.
She was gone.

Begin Again
Chapter 7
In the days that followed, the Triwizard Tournament had been announced as well as the arrival of the student from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. In a few days the champions from each school will be chosen but that wasn’t important at the moment.
What was important was that her date with James was tomorrow.
It was currently Friday night and her dorm was a complete and utter mess. Hermione sat on her bed, alongside Lily, as they watched her pull out every piece of clothing that she owned.
She would pull out an outfit, try it on, complain that it wasn’t good enough before practically tearing it off, and throwing herself on her bed while groaning as she tried to control her tears of frustration.
“I have nothing to wear!” Stephanie whined.
Hermione and Lily looked at the huge piles of clothes, her clothes, that laid scattered around the room before glancing at one another.
“What if I can’t find anything to wear? I can’t just show up naked!” She exclaimed while sitting up on her bed.
“I doubt James would complain.” Lily snickered.
“Lily!” She scolds before throwing a pillow at her. “I’m serious!”
“I thought you were Stephanie.”
Lily continues to laugh as Hermione joins her while Stephanie just throws herself backwards, staring up at the ceiling.
“How am I meant to impress him if I can’t find anything to wear?”
——————
“How am I meant to impress her if I can’t find anything to wear?”
James laid on his bed while staring at the ceiling, his dorm in a similar state as Stephanie’s. The four marauders stared at him as he wallowed in self pity, completely unaware of the fact that Stephanie laid in a similar state as him.
As Chris moved closer to try and cheer him up, stating that ‘it wasn’t anyone important, it was just his sister’, Harry, Luke and Ron walk pass their dorm - whose door was open for some reason.
The three boys stop their conversation as they see the state in which the marauders dorm was in, and the state their father was in.
“Is he ok?” Luke asks while looking at his dad who was sprawled over his bed.
“No.” All four boys replied at the same time.
“Prongs, here, is worried about his date and claims that he doesn’t have anything to wear.” Sirius adds in a mocking tone causing Chris, Remus, Peter and Ron to snicker - Harry and Luke tried to hold back their laughter for their dad’s sake.
“Wait!” James suddenly sits up on his bed as if he just had the greatest idea of all time. “You’re all friends with her!”
“What a keen observation, mate.” Remus says as all the boys continue laughing.
“No-“ James starts while standing up after shooing Chris away. “I mean, you’re friends with her.”
“I think you’ve made it perfectly clear that they’re friends with her, James.” Peter says causing another round of laughter.
“Shut up!” James yells back at them before turning to look at the three boys, who he now stood in front of. “What I meant was that since they’re friends with her, they obviously know what she likes.”
“So?” Sirius asks.
“So,” James says with a wide grin. “You’re going to help me find an outfit that will impress her.”
“We can’t.” Harry replies.
“Why not?”
“Well- because we- uh-“ Harry stutters, not wanting to throw his mum under the bus and tell their dad that they were on their way to his mum’s dorm to help her find an outfit to impress him. “We have homework.”
“Homework?” James repeats before scoffing. “Homework isn’t as important as my date with the love of my life.”
“But-“ Harry glances at Luke.
“No buts, come on. I need your help, these tossers don’t know what they’re doing.”
“Hey!” Four voices exclaim at the same time.
“I can’t!” Luke says.
“Why not?”
“I- uh- have detention. With Mcgonagall.” Luke replies, glancing around the room nervously. “And I’m already late. So, I should really get going.”
“But-“
“Good luck!” Luke yells before running away - Harry staring after his little brother with an offended look, knowing that he was actually going to their mum’s dorm.
“Well, I still have you two.” James says before dragging them into their dorm and slamming the door shut.
——————
The door to their dorm was slammed open causing the three girls to jump in fear. They look towards the door only to find a disheveled Luke standing in front of the closed door with his back resting on it.
“Merlin’s beard, Luke.” Hermione breathes out while placing her hand on her heart.
“Are you okay?” Stephanie asks in concern.
“Why are you so out of breath?” Lily adds.
“I had to run away from James and the other boys, though Harry and Ron weren’t so lucky.”
“James?” Stephanie sits up. “You were running away from James? Why? What do you mean Harry and Ron weren’t so lucky?”
Lily and Hermione eye one another with teasing smiles, trying to hold in their laughter at their friends’ desperation.
Lucerys on the other hand wasn’t sure on whether or not telling her the truth. He didn’t want to throw his dad under the bus but he also didn’t want to lie to his mum.
So he did the only logical thing.
“We were on our way to your dorm when we passed by theirs. He was laying in his bed freaking out about not being able to find a good enough outfit that will impress you, so when he saw us he begged us to help him. Harry said that we couldn’t because we ‘had homework’ but he didn’t care so I said that I couldn’t because I had detention, which was obviously not true, and then I ran away.” Luke finishes before taking a deep breath.
Stephanie smiles while her face heats up. “He was freaking out because he couldn’t find an outfit to impress me?”
“He begged Harry and Ron to help him?” Lily asks.
“He didn’t care about your homework?” Hermione asks.
They turn to look at Hermione who had an annoyed look on her face at the thought of him dismissing the topic of homework like that.
“Right, that’s not important right now.” She clears her throat. “Continue.”
“Well, what did he say? What did he do?”
“Well, he was mostly laying in his bed looking, somewhat, depressed. And Chris, Sirius, Remus and Peter kept on making fun of him. But he looked really happy when he got Harry and Ron to help him.” Luke recounts after sitting down beside the girls.
Stephanie squeals in excitement while getting up from her bed and running over to her pile of clothes. “No one is leaving this dorm until we have chosen the perfect outfit. We need to make sure that he’s left impressed - like so impressed that his jaw is on the floor.”
All three teenagers take a deep breath before getting up from the bed and start rummaging through the countless piles of clothes that were scattered around the room.
Lucerys and Hermione in particular had a different level of desperation than Lily, and even Stephanie, as they knew that this was the moment that could kickstart Stephanie and James’ relationship, that would later bring the birth of Harry and Luke.

Zoya Malfoy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Name: Zoya Malfoy
Age: 13-20 (Marauders era); 43 (Golden Trio era)
Height: 6'0
Sexuality: Pansexual
Zoya Malfoy is the older sister of Lucius Malfoy, and is therefore the aunt of Draco Malfoy. Zoya has the distinctive Malfoy features of platinum blonde hair and piercing blue eyes, but her own facial features are more soft and delicate. Her looks are often compared to a porcelain doll, with a small nose, full lips, and high cheekbones.
Zoya is known for her intelligence and ambition, just like her brother, and has also followed his footsteps in joining the Death Eaters. Unlike Lucius, however, Zoya is more reserved and prefers to work quietly behind the scenes. She's a skilled Occlumens, skilled in hiding her true intentions and thoughts from any kind of Legilimency, which makes her an incredibly useful asset to the Death Eaters. Zoya is also known for her fondness for exotic pets, particularly rare white snakes, which she likes to keep as companions.
Despite her loyalty to Voldemort and the Death Eaters, Zoya has a complicated relationship with her brother and nephew. She is known to have a soft spot for Draco, having taken care of him during his childhood, and often worries about his safety. However, she is also highly critical of Lucius, believing him to be too impulsive and reckless in his actions. Zoya is ambitious and driven, always looking for ways to climb the ranks within the Death Eaters and gain more power. She's cunning and not afraid to get her hands dirty, but she's also quietly calculating and prefers to use strategy and manipulation to achieve her goals.
Despite her association with the Death Eaters, Zoya is not without her flaws and has a deep guilt for all the harm caused by the dark wizards. She often struggles with her conscience and the consequences of her actions, which can lead her to make some surprising decisions that might not always align with the Death Eaters' goals. However, Zoya is a survivor at heart and always manages to find her way out of tight spots. She's not one to be underestimated, as her small and delicate appearance hides a fierce determination and sharp mind. In the world of wizarding politics, Zoya is a force to be reckoned with, and she's always playing her cards close to her chest, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike.
The Marauders Era
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zoya attended Hogwarts in the Marauders era (obviously). She was sorted into the Slytherin house, where she quickly proved to be a very talented witch. Despite her exceptional abilities, Zoya was able to blend in seamlessly with the other Slytherins, using her charm and quick wit to make friends. She was particularly close to a group of Slytherin girls, who shared her love for dark magic and ambitious goals.
During her time at Hogwarts, Zoya's exceptional actions caught the attention of the Death Eaters. They saw in her a valuable asset and began grooming her as a potential recruit. Zoya was initially hesitant to join them, but they promised her power and influence beyond her wildest dreams, which ultimately swayed her decision. As a result, Zoya became heavily involved in the Death Eaters during her time at Hogwarts. Although she managed to maintain a low profile externally, she was always working behind the scenes to advance their cause.
She was an excellent student and always maintained high grades, which earned her the respect of her professors and peers alike. Moreover, her cunning and strategic mind helped her stay one step ahead of her enemies, including James Potter and his friends, the Marauders. The Death Eaters were particularly interested in her expertise in dark magic, and they began to trust her with some of their most secret knowledge and operations.
She secretly conducted several missions on their behalf, all the while keeping up her façade of being a relatively normal Hogwarts student. Nevertheless, the weight of her choices began to bear down on her, and she began to fear for her life as well as for the lives of those she loved. Despite this, Zoya managed to sustain her position in the Death Eaters until she graduated from Hogwarts. She went on to become one of their most trusted operatives in the wizarding world.
Zoya had a complicated relationship with the Marauders. They were constantly at odds with each other, as they were on opposing sides of the war. James Potter, in particular, had made it his mission to keep an eye on Zoya and her actions, suspecting that she was up to no good. Zoya, in turn, found the Marauders to be a significant obstacle to her goals, and she often clashed with them over various issues. Despite their conflicts, however, there were moments when Zoya found herself admiring aspects of the Marauders' bravado and camaraderie, which reminded her of the close-knit relationships she had witnessed within the Death Eaters.
Moreover, as Zoya began to feel the weight of her involvement in the war, she found herself growing more distant from her former friends in the Death Eaters. In a way, this created a common ground between her and the Marauders, who began to see her in a different light as they realized that she was not entirely loyal to the Death Eaters' cause. There were even rumors that she had begun to provide information to the Order of the Phoenix, though no one knew for certain. In the end, Zoya's relationship with the Marauders was complex and ever-changing, as the war continued to rage on and make things more difficult for everyone involved. While she never fully trusted them, Zoya had to admit that the Marauders' determination and resilience in the face of adversity was admirable. She was also more than willing to make use of any opportunity that presented itself, which sometimes meant setting aside her differences with them and working together towards a common goal. In this way, her relationship with the Marauders was a reflection of the larger conflicts that were being played out across the wizarding world, with alliances shifting and loyalties constantly being tested and redefined.
Young love
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a young, charismatic Sirius Black strutted down the corridors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Zoya recognized something of herself in him - a sense of ambition and drive that was rare among their peers. Yet, Sirius and Zoya were also natural enemies, as each wanted to be recognized as the brightest star in their respective spheres of influence. This often led to heated debates and clashes of wills between them, with neither willing to back down or give an inch.
Sirius and Zoya's relationship started off as pure enemies. They clashed constantly in their time at Hogwarts, with Zoya viewing Sirius as nothing more than a reckless troublemaker and Sirius seeing Zoya as a cold and calculating villain. They frequently found themselves in situations where they were pitted against one another, with Zoya using her intelligence and cunning to outmaneuver Sirius and his friends, and Sirius using his bravery and fierce loyalty to defend his friends and fight back against Zoya's schemes. However, as they grew older and the war intensified, their relationship began to shift. They found themselves working together more often, as they both recognized the need for more allies and the value of putting aside their personal differences in order to fight a greater enemy. As they worked side by side, they began to see each other in a new light. Sirius began to admire Zoya's intelligence and strategic mind, while Zoya couldn't help but be impressed by Sirius's bravery and fierce loyalty to those he cared about. They had always been attracted to each other, but it wasn't until they found themselves alone together, working on a risky mission for the Order, that they finally acted on their feelings. They shared a kiss that was electric, and from that moment on, were no longer just enemies, but secretly lovers as well.
Sirius was devastated when he found out that Zoya had become a Death Eater. He couldn't believe that the woman he loved could be a part of the group that was responsible for so much pain and suffering. He tried to understand her motives and figure out why she had made that choice, but he was unable to comprehend it. It was especially hard for Sirius, as he had grown up in a family that was deeply entrenched in the pure-blood ideology, and he had spent much of his life fighting against those beliefs. He felt like he had lost a kindred spirit in Zoya, someone who had understood his struggles and shared his beliefs. However, despite his disappointment and heartbreak, Sirius couldn't bring himself to completely give up on Zoya. He knew that she was a good person at heart, and he believed that she could be saved from the path she had chosen. So, he continued to keep an eye on her from a distance, hoping for a chance to sway her back towards the light. However, he also knew that he couldn't compromise his principles or take any action that would harm the fight against Voldemort, so he had to walk a careful line in his dealings with Zoya. Ultimately, Sirius never stopped caring for Zoya, even as he fought against her and her comrades in the Order of the Phoenix. He held onto a sliver of hope that she would eventually see the error of her ways and join their cause, and he continued to pray that she would remain safe, even as he fought against her. Though Zoya's actions had deeply hurt him, Sirius never forgot the love they had shared before her turn to the dark side, and he continued to hold out hope that one day they might find their way back to each other.
The parted ways
Tumblr media
However eventually, after Sirius was sent to Azkaban, Zoya had to deal with her heartbreak on the inside, without showing her true emotions to nor her family or the Death Eaters.
As they grew up, Zoya now had a husband who she met when he first joined the Death Eaters, he, of course, could never compare to Sirius but with her family's insistment, the two married eachother, Zoya didn't love her husband, she did it for the family, but as years passed by, she came to forget about Sirius completely, now, being more focused on her job as a Death Eater.
However, despite her attempts to bury her feelings for Sirius deep within, Zoya could never quite shake the love she had once felt for him. No matter how much she tried to forget him, his face and his voice continued to haunt her dreams at night, and she found herself constantly thinking about what might have been if they had stayed together. In a way, her love for Sirius was an unspoken rebellion against the cold, cruel world she had been forced to accept as a Death Eater.
Over time, as Zoya became more entrenched in her role as a Death Eater and her hatred for all things associated with the light grew stronger, she found herself struggling with her inner conflicts. On one hand, she had grown to accept the dark and gruesome acts that her comrades committed in the name of Voldemort. On the other, she could not help but feel pangs of regret and guilt about the things she had done in the past, especially those that had caused pain and suffering to innocent people.
Despite it all, Zoya remained a faithful Death Eater, never once showing any signs of her inner turmoil to her comrades or family. It was only when she was alone that she allowed herself to briefly confront the painful emotions that she had long buried deep within her heart stronger, she found herself struggling with her inner conflicts.
Too late
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only thing that had kept that little spark of light was her nephew, Draco, despite the kid acting like a brat, she still taught him some manners, she knew she could not fix what was built by Lucius, but she could try to continue building something better.
That's why she was completely devastated and angry at Lucius for forcing Draco into becoming a Death Eater.
She saw him as a naive and impressionable boy who deserved better than to be caught up in the dangerous and violent world of Voldemort's followers. It was a constant source of tension between her and Lucius, with him always pushing to include Draco in more important missions and Zoya trying to shield him and keep him as safe as possible.
Despite their differences, Zoya's love for Draco remained unwavering, and she was determined to do everything she could to protect him. She continued to teach him what she knew, but also tried to instill in him a sense of compassion and empathy that had been absent in the Death Eaters. It was a delicate balance, as she knew that Draco's loyalty to Voldemort would be tested at some point and she wasn't sure if he would be strong enough to resist.
But no matter what happened, she vowed to always be there for him and to guide him towards the light, even if it meant going against everything she had believed in for so long. Zoya's loyalty to the dark side was slowly being eroded away by her love for Draco, and she was starting to consider the possibility that there might be another way to live, one that didn't involve violence, fear, and death.
Hope you like this story-like OC introduction! <3
