Now one thing you'll notice, is the tv-show category between Stede Bonnet & Charles, and Steve and Murray got a bit out of hand. “The disappearance of gorgonias can cause a chain reaction that will affect the entire Mediterranean ecosystem” - Janire Salazar, Marine biologist from ICM - CSIC.

Gorgonias are organisms that make up entire underwater forests: areas in which many other species go to shelter, breed and grow. Mediterranean gorgonias currently suffer the daily impact of traditional fishing methods like gillnets. And like in any other forest, if the elements that make it up are not protected, the wildlife that it harbours will disappear. The ResCap project, which is carried out by ICM – CSIC, Fundación Biodiversidad and the fishermen’s associations of Port de la Selva and Cadaqués, aims to protect and recover all deep-sea gorgonias found in the Cap de Creus Natural Park.

Gorgonias are marine organisms which, despite the way they look, are not plants or algae, but animals. They are stationary, live in depths of more than a hundred meters, show very slow growth and take many years to recover. They are vulnerable, but great biodiversity depends on their growth. “Gorgonias are a structural species to the Mediterranean ecosystem, as they favour the growth and survival of multiple species,” says Marina Biel, one of the biologists from CSIC involved in the project.

Biologists, fishermen and agents from the Cap de Creus Natural Park work together to rescue all those gorgonias that have been accidentally trapped in fishing nets. Once recovered, the gorgonias are taken to the lab’s experimental aquariums to be studied and treated before they are freed again. When they are ready to go back to the marine environment, they are affixed to a base made of stone so that its weight will create the so-called “badminton effect” when they are released back into the sea. “The badminton effect ensures that the gorgonia will land on its feet on the seafloor and will therefore be able to feed itself and survive with no problems,” Marina Biel says.

The Pleamar projects bring to the forefront how important it is for biologists and fishermen to work together on the restoration of sea floors and the preservation of an essential species for the Mediterranean ecosystem: gorgonias. “Both parties work towards the same goal: to protect the sea floor and its biodiversity,“ ICM - CSIC biologists Janire Salazar and Marina Biel point out. Salvador Manera, a fisherman from the fishermen’s association of Port de la Selva and driving force of other sustainable projects linked to the Mediterranean, highlights how valuable these synergies will be into the future: “They help to raise awareness and to make us understand that we need to fish in a sustainable way if we want to carry on doing our job.”

Over the first year of the project (2018), more than 400 gorgonias were released back into the sea, with a survival rate above 90%. All parties involved hope to match or improve these results in 2019, as they also help to raise awareness about these kinds of initiatives. “There is an increasing number of people who are interested in marine conservation projects,” Janire and Marina say, as they insist on the meaning behind these actions: “The actions you take today will be rewarded tomorrow. It’s about giving something in return for the great things that the sea gives us each day.”

The printer Momoro, who was one of the most capable and convinced leaders of the Hébertist party, did not play a mediocre role in the Parisian revolution—quite the opposite!

As the editor of the journal of the Cordeliers Club, he was included in the prosecutions against the republicans after the unfortunate Champ de Mars affair. The week he then spent in prison brought him the sympathy and support of the sans-culottes. He joined the directory of the Paris department after August 10 and was assigned several missions by the Executive Council.

Raised to honors, he remained simple and profoundly democratic. He died as poor as he had lived.

The day after his execution, Fouquier-Tinville wrote to the administrators of the Doubs department on Germinal 5, Year II, inviting them to confiscate, for the benefit of the Republic, the properties that the condemned Momoro might own in Besançon, where he was born in the Parish of Saint-Pierre, on November 13, 1755.

At that time, Momoro’s father, who had worked as a shoemaker, was already dead. But his mother, who had taken a job as a servant after her husband's death, was still alive.

When the commissioners of the Besançon district went to her home, she had just died, probably from the shock of the news of her son's execution.

“Today, Germinal 11, Year II of the Republic, at eleven o'clock in the morning, we, Jean François Denisot, member of the general council of the Besançon district, appointed by order of the same district on this day to affix seals at the home of the mother of the named Momoro, who has just suffered the death penalty in Paris, and having with us François-Joseph Bernard as our secretary clerk, we went to the home of citizen Forno, a war commissioner, where the said Momoro was a cook. There, we invited citizen Forno to show us the room of the said Momoro, to which she replied that she had died the previous night but was ready to introduce us to the room she occupied.”

End of the excerpt. But it must be emphasized that Momoro's inheritance was just a bit of linen, 26 livres and 400 livres in assignats. With this, it cannot be said that Momoro was wrong in his trial when he claimed he could not be accused of counter-revolution because he had given everything for the revolution (yes, the last sentence is my fangirl heart speaking XD).

(AP) — Donald Trump was the target Sunday of “what appears to be an attempted assassination” at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, the FBI said, just nine weeks after the Republican presidential nominee survived another attempt on his life. The former president said he was safe and well, and authorities held a man in custody. U.S. Secret Service agents posted a few holes up from where Trump was playing noticed the muzzle of an AK-style rifle sticking through the shrubbery that lines the course, roughly 400 yards away. An agent fired and the gunman dropped the rifle and fled in an SUV, leaving the firearm behind along with two backpacks, a scope used for aiming and a GoPro camera, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said. The man was later taken into custody in a neighboring county.

It was the latest jarring moment in a campaign year marked by unprecedented upheaval. On July 13, Trump was shot during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and a bullet grazed his ear. Eight days later, Democratic President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, giving way for Vice President Kamala Harris to become the party’s nominee. And it was sure to add to the questions about Secret Service protective operations after the agency’s admitted failures in preventing the attempted assassination of Trump this summer. In an email to supporters, Trump said: “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!” He wrote: “Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER!”

He returned to Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Palm Beach where he lives, according to a person familiar with Trump’s movements who was not authorized to discuss them publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. It was not immediately clear whether the incident would affect his campaign schedule. He was set to speak from Florida about cryptocurrency live on Monday night on the social media site X for the launch of his sons’ crypto platform. He planned a town hall Tuesday in Flint, Michigan, with his former press secretary, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, followed by a rally Wednesday on New York’s Long Island.

[...] The Florida golf course was partially shut down for Trump as he played, but there are several areas around the perimeter of the property where golfers are visible from the fence line. Secret Service agents and officers in golf carts and on ATVs generally secure the area several holes ahead and behind Trump when he plays. Agents also usually bring an armored vehicle onto the course to shelter Trump quickly should a threat arise. The Palm Beach County sheriff said the entire golf course would have been lined with law enforcement if Trump were the president, but because he is not, “security is limited to the areas that the Secret Service deems possible.”

Yesterday, Donald Trump was the target of an apparent assassination attempt at his Trump International Golf Club. This is the 2nd assassination attempt against him this campaign cycle, just over two months after the assassination attempt in Butler, PA.

Mozambique: Post-Election Protests Violently Repressed

At Least 11 People Killed; Dozens Seriously Injured

(Johannesburg) – Mozambique security forces killed at least 11 people and injured dozens of others using live bullets and tear gas during post-election protests across the country on October 24 and 25, 2024, Human Rights Watch said today. The authorities should promptly and impartially investigate the apparently excessive use of force.

On October 24, the Mozambican election commission announced that Daniel Chapo and the ruling party Frente de Libertação de Moçambique (Front for the Liberation of Mozambique, FRELIMO) had won the October 9 general elections. The elections and pre-elections period were marred by political killings, widespread irregularities, and restrictions on the rights to freedom of expression and assembly.

“The Mozambique security forces’ violent crackdown on protesters has severely increased political tensions following the country’s elections,” said Allan Ngari, Africa advocacy director at Human Rights Watch. “Mozambican authorities should promptly and impartially investigate alleged misuse of force and hold those responsible accountable.”

Human Rights Watch interviewed 22 people in person and by telephone between October 24 and 27, including victims and witnesses to the violence, physicians, journalists, government officials, and officials of local civil society groups.

Over 50 people suffered serious gunshot wounds, and many, including children as young as one year old, inhaled tear gas that the police fired indiscriminately into residential areas. Police have detained over 400 people who allegedly engaged in public disorder, looting of shops, destruction of public and private property, and an attack on a police station.

On the fourth day of Ramadan, Palestinians in Gaza are growing ever more desperate as food shortages continue and the Israeli military targets aid seekers and distribution sites. Israeli forces killed 7 Palestinians and wounded about 86 others after opening fire on a group of Palestinians waiting for aid to arrive at the Kuwait Roundabout in Gaza City, reported Wafa.

In recent weeks, Israeli forces have repeatedly attacked the roundabout where large groups of people gather to wait for aid trucks. On Tuesday, Israeli forces killed 11 people waiting for food aid at the roundabout. Al Jazeera correspondent Hani Mahmoud says the Kuwait Roundabout [is] “known as a death trap” and that it’s becoming increasingly dangerous right now for aid seekers. “We heard from a hungry and largely traumatized population stranded in the Gaza Strip asking what is the purpose of getting those trucks into Gaza and its northern area if they’re getting shot at,” Mahmoud reported from Gaza. Just hours before, Israeli forces launched an attack on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) distribution center in Rafah; one staff member was killed, and twenty-two others were wounded.

“Today’s attack on one of the very few remaining UNRWA distribution centers in the Gaza Strip comes as food supplies are running out, hunger is widespread and, in some areas, turning into famine,” said UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini in a statement on X. “Every day, we share the coordinates of all our facilities across the Gaza Strip with parties to the conflict. The Israeli army received the coordinates, including this facility yesterday.” The killing of an UNRWA aid worker at a distribution center is “devastating” for crucial humanitarian relief deliveries in Gaza, Martin Griffiths, the U.N.’s top emergency aid official, says.

“How are we to maintain aid operations when our teams and supplies are constantly under threat? They must be protected,” Martin Griffiths posted on X. “This war has to stop.” Shortly after the UNRWA announcement, Israel claimed its air strike on a U.N. food distribution center in southern Gaza killed a Hamas commander.

In a statement, Hamas said Abu Hasna was a member of its civil police force, not its military wing, and condemned his killing as a “cowardly assassination” meant to disrupt aid distribution, reported Al Jazeera. Since October 7, Israeli forces have killed more than 400 people seeking shelter in U.N. facilities in Gaza. The military also hit over 150 of the agency’s structures despite having protected status under international law. “The United Nations, its personnel, premises and assets must be protected at all times … I am calling once again for an independent inquiry into these violations and the need for accountability,” Lazzarini added.

Lili

Tu t’appelle Lili, tu es entré dans ma vie un jour d’octobre, comme tombent les feuilles à cette période, par hasard.

Un hasard peu commun car ta maman était très malade. Tu devais partir à Bali, et puis tu as changé d’avis.

Moi je revenais au bled après 5 ans. J’étais en plein burn-out je n’en avais parlé à personne mais c’était une mauvaise période. Mais pas pire que de voir sa mère malade, m’étais-je dit en l’apprenant de ta sœur.

Ta maman c’est ma voisine au bled. Celle que j’ai connu depuis ma naissance. Celle qui a une maison depuis laquelle on voit mieux la mer que de chez nous, ça me rendait jalouse quand j’étais plus petite. Je trouvais ça injuste que les arbres me chachent la mer à la maison.

Un matin, ma maman te présente à moi comme celle avec qui elle a fait les 400 coups plus jeune. Dans la discussion, je me rends compte que tu es une personne très douce, bienveillante et je ressens tant l’amour inconditionnel que le non jugement. J’analyse tout, ta voix un peu cassée mais qui me reste dans la tête. Ton sourire, les bracelets à tes poignets, les bagues à tes doigts.

Je me sens aimée. Instantanément. J’ai ma place dans le cœur de quelqu’un. Je trouve une grande cousine et bien plus que ça, une grande sœur. Dans ton regard je me sens comme une personne saine, douce. Pour ça j’ai envie de changer. À ce moment, je sais que je ne suis pas à ma place dans ma vie actuelle, que je mérite mieux. On sait pas toujours ce qu’on vaut.

Les jours passent, on se voit tous les jours. Je ne te dis pas grand chose de ma vie j’ai le sentiment que je n’ai pas besoin de te raconter quoi que ce soit. Tu sais. Toi tu me racontes toute la tienne. Tes voyages, tes amis, ton boulot. L’état de ta maman ne s’améliore pas. On se promet des mots « ça va aller promis ». Ça devient notre phrase. Cette phrase de @aelnaute

Vient le moment où je dois rentrer du bled. Ce jour là alors que je charge mes valises dans la voiture je supplie le ciel de t’envoyer. Ça se produit, tour de chance. Les derniers mots de courage, que je retiendrai longtemps. Je garde dans ma tête la douceur de ta voix cassée, ton parfum, tes gestes. Ce jour là je te promets de ne pas t’oublier et de faire en sorte d’aller mieux. Toi tu me promets de ne pas m’oublier.

Le retour est dur. Dans l’avion je ne dors pas je pleure silencieusement. Je pleure le manque, je pleure le travail que je vais devoir faire pour devenir la personne que je dois devenir. Je ne veux pas seulement être une fille saine un temps, ça doit durer.

Pendant des semaines, je pleure en appelant ton nom chaque fois qu’il m’arrive une galère (et elles sont nombreuses). J’ai besoin de quelqu’un pour me conseiller, d’un adulte plus adulte que moi.

Lorsque ta maman est partie rejoindre un autre monde. J’ai eu peur de ne pas savoir être suffisamment là. J’ai fait avec ce que j’étais et ça semblait bien. Pour la première fois de ma vie je suis assez.

Lorsque tu pars finalement à Bali, on se parle beaucoup même avec 8h de décalage.

Moi j’avance. Enfin. J’obtiens mon permis et un nouveau travail. Quand j’étais venue au bled j’avais fait 50 candidatures je n’avais pas une réponse. Comme par enchantement j’en fais 10 j’ai 10 réponses.

Je deviens cette personne dont tu es fière.

Le temps passe, Noël, nos anniversaires, le jour de l’an. La vie.

En mars, j’ai le privilège d’apprendre avant tout le monde que tu pars vivre dans les îles. Pour 2 ans au moins. Ça me brise un peu le coeur et à la fois je suis heureuse pour toi. Moi aussi j’ai changé de vie, chacun son tour. Je ne sais pas quand on se reverra mais je commence à économiser durement. Actuellement j’espère pouvoir venir en janvier. On se verra en 2024 tu as ma parole.

C’est toi qui m’a proposé qu’on se voie à l’aéroport avant que tu partes. Je n’ai pas hésité une seconde. J’ai posé une aprèm. Et j’ai couru.

C’était doux. Ça m’a fait du bien de te voir en allant mieux. Ça m’a fait du bien de me jeter dans tes bras en criant « Lili ».

Une dernière promesse. Avec 2 bracelets de @aelnaute Où que tu soies je veillerai sur toi.

C’était moins dur que je pensais de te laisser dans cet aéroport. Parce que je sais. Je sais que la distance ne peut rien faire contre l’amour d’une famille. J’ai confiance en nous maintenant.

On m’a toujours dit loin des yeux loin du cœur mais c’était pas vrai. Je te parle tellement plus souvent à toi qu’à ceux qui vivent à côté de chez moi. J’ai compris qu’un entourage ça se choisit. Ça se construit. C’est la première fois que je n’ai pas peur de la distance. Alors que quand je suis partie du bled, tu sais, si je t’envoyais un message un jour sur 2 c’était pas à cause du décalage horaire. C’était parce que je testais, parce que j’avais trop peur de m’attacher. Et puis j’ai arrêté de vouloir faire semblant d’être froide, parce que ce n’est pas ce que je suis. Je suis quelqu’un de bien. Je veux être cette version de moi qui existe dans ton esprit.

Je m’estime heureuse d’être si bien entourée. D’enfin savoir sur qui compter.

C’est doux d’être aimée. C’est doux de ne plus avoir peur. J’ai vu le vrai moi avec toi.

Je t’aime de tout mon coeur.

These people are miserable and yeah they're well over the top and we need to end so I'm sending for people to come here and control them and now we had a great time we're doing things and we're getting places and we definitely need to control here because of that and yeah there's some fallout we also understand that our son has some problems and we can't keep on feeding with these people want every time

-we do have more stuff to report there is a space battle off of Mars and it is between the pseudo empire and the clones on the clones are at 100 billion and the pseudo empire is at 200 million and yes they were at 400 billion and the phones were at 200 billion.
