Hi! I just had a quick question about the BSDBB: what should we sign up for if we want to do a fic about a pairing other than SKK? I have an idea for a ChuuAtsu fic I would love to do but I want to do it under the right group.

If you are planning for it to be a romantic pairing then I’m afraid this year we’d have to refer you to the Rare Pair Big Bang as they requested we don’t include romantic pairings this year. However if you have plans for it to be platonic or the romantic portion of it won’t be a major part of the story we’d love to have you write for us under the General application!

maplepancake's last point is a great one. Once you've got a bit of a recipe repertoire down (like a decent handful of recipes you feel confident with), this will become easier because you'll just know which recipes you can do with all that chicken, or hey that zucchini looks super fresh and on special, I can do at least three different recipes with that, or whatever it is. You'll also get in more of a routine with what your favorite staples to buy are, because you use them a lot. Just remember though, if you buy something out of your usual habit because it looks really good, have a definite plan for how you'll use it, and do it SOON. Or you might just forget that you've got it sitting in that fridge drawer, or forget what you were going to do with it, and then it'll go off before you use it. Or that's what happens when I buy salad leaves, anyway.

How to go grocery shopping if you’ve never really done it before.

, Ok, so I know a lot of yall out there are fresh to adulting, and actually going to the grocery store is like….a lot. I remember just kinda….wandering around grabing random stuff and ending up with a lot of junk at the end and no real meals. 

So here’s a basic guide of how to do it. 

1. Start your list with stuff that doesn’t need recipes. 

These will be your fast breakfast/pre-made meal stuff. 

I divide my shopping lists into: Produce, Meats, Fridge/Frozen, Spices and Shelved. So this might look like:

2. Pick out some easy recipes. 

We’ll do 3, just to see how this looks. Depending on how many dinners youre making at home/storage space/etc, you may have more or less. There’s tons of recipe websites out there. They are free.

Once you’ve been cooking a while, you’ll find that you have lots of recipes you want to repeat. I recommend printing these out. 

3. Ok, so now, double check the serving sizes on your recipes and add the ingredients to your shopping list, one recipe at a time. 

4. The next step is to take this list into your kitchen. Is there anything you already have and don’t need? 

So I already have salsa, soy sauce, canola oil, and cheddar cheese. Don’t need to rebuy those! 

5. Now you can print this out and go shopping.

 Because we’ve arranged the list this way, you should encounter the items you need roughly in order. Just check them off when you find them.

Three favourite foods: so many. too many. Sun buns are v good but I think only one bakery makes them and I need to learn how (butter+lots of cinnamon sugar+laminated dough???). Meatloaf is ideal dinner concept. I also cook a mean steak and potatoes and bro let me tell you there are few things nicer than some almost-mooing dead cow and some potatoes roasted in bacon fat and rosemary.

Top 3 shows: this is difficult lbr. on the not-anime front I love me cooking competition shows let’s go to england and bake cakes or KITCHEN NIGHTMARES or if you want to get into like, absolutely top tier cooking competitions watch cutthroat kitchen. also Star Trek but mostly ST:VOY. animes are obviously soul eater and fma:b (because what kind of heathen doesnt like fma it’s A Good) and blue exorcist (same reasons as fma honestly, it’s fma-tier but like, mostly the manga and also the kyoto arc of the anime because they kind of did a fma:b with the anime), also the kuroshit anime that’s adaptations of manga arcs (book of [arc])

Books I’m currently reading: Currently reading: The Lost Art of Reading Nature’s Signs: Use Outdoor Clues to Find Your Way, Predict the Weather, Locate Water, Track Animals - and Other Forgotten Skills by Tristan Gooley,  I’m ~75% through Chernow’s Hamilton as an audiobook, just finished Atlantic Fever: Lindbergh, His Competitors, and the Race to Cross the Atlantic by Joe Jackson, and I’ve got a stack of books to choose from for my next one, but it’s either going to be Theodore Rex by Edmund Morris or A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America by Stacy Shiff. Chernow’s Grant is on my Christmas list so if I get that I’m charging straight into it. In case you couldn’t tell I basically just... read nonfiction unless it’s manga. On the manga front I’m currently staying current on My Hero Academia, Blue Exorcist, éDlive (space cops from the creator of Reborn), Kuroshitsuji, and The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún (which is the only manga I’ve bought physical copies of in my entire life, it’s VERY GOOD AND PRETTY PLEASE READ IT)
