pentax 17, kodak ultramax 400
#my new camera! it’s a half frame so instead of 36 pics I get 72#which means I’ve taken a lot more ‘mundane’ and candid shots#(not that I’ll be sharing candida of family and friends on here)#overall happy with the quality but a few were either under or over exposed so I need to figure out how to actually use it lol im used to#manually setting everything on my leica and rollei#photography#my photography#kodak#pentax 17

Agfa Compact
turned on and with the flash removed
#favorite camera#for 35 mm film#an irresolvable mishmash of retro and military style#from the early 80's#it uses AAA batteries#most importantly you can set the ISO of the film manually (25-400!)#so you can use it with “exotic” films and cheap films that are not DX coded (e.g. Fomapan)#or you can easily overexpose your expired film as needed

god bless 20 year old forums
#the only way i was able to make sure the biggest xd card my camera can take!#new camera!!!!!!!!!!!!!#cause my other digicam is probably going on hospice soon......... i don't want him to die 😭😭😭#the new camera is from 2005ish as far as i can tell#so similar age#but it has much more features#and uses an xd card rather than sd (hence why i was checking size capatibility cause i can't use the sd cards i have)#which i just bought myself an sd card phone reader....... and now i'm switching to xd....... it's fine 😭#anyway i can't store pics yet but i've been going through the manual (again thank u 20 year old sites!!!!!) and testing a lot of the thibgs#i'm making a step up!!!!!!#i don't think i'll be able to replicate the old digicam looks#but i think it takes photos like that because it's broken lol#but i think this one will look cool too!!!!!#and it has a lot more settings like iso and apurature and stuff#so i'm excited!!!!!!!!#going out to the state park later this month and i'm excited to take lots of tree pictures hehehehheehe

okay, so it turns out that my insurmountable problem with sewing machines translates directly to fancy DSLR cameras. I have returned it to the camera shop.
#I made an attempt!#I took test shots and I fiddled with the settings and read thru the manual and I SUFFERED ENDLESSLY#i'm too autistic for this I'm sorry <3#i really should have sat on it instead of going from 0 to fancy camera in 26 hours. i know better.#but hey! it's a learning experience. and one that (in the end) only cost me time and not money. so it's fine.#I'm still a bit frustrated with myself :/#¶

I saw a video where someone said that (if you're doing photography as a hobby, not as a career) the camera that makes you want to take more pictures and want to use that camera all the time is the best camera to buy, and for most people that might not be the most expensive, decked out camera out there.
and that advice really applies to most things, doesn't it? anyway, much like how I basically always turn to marie kondo's "does this spark joy?" question when it comes to Things, the above lesson is something that I think I'll take as a guiding principle whenever I'm spending hours on youtube watching product reviews because I want to buy a Thing but I don't know what model of the Thing I want to buy.
yes the Thing looks cool, but will it actually make me want to do [reason I'm buying the Thing for] more frequently? will it make me fall in love with the process of Using The Thing?
#mine musings#anyway past me made a good decision apparently because a couple of years ago i decided#i probably will use an instax more than a digital camera#because i like the process of point-and-shoot than figuring out manual settings and composition#something about the analog experience is more fun to me even though the pictures aren't always perfect but like. that's also the charm#plus i'm not even active on social media enough that i never even think to post pictures online#anyway i posted all this because i saw that there was an SX-70 on sale and that camera just always seemed so cool to me#but like. realistically i will never use it much because polaroid films are way more expensive AND not accessible where i live#i can find instax film easily but not polaroid#anyway yeah engage with the Things you own#use your only-for-special-occassion clothes more often#annotate your books (if you're an annotator which i guess not everyone is. but it's fun)

Same camera that takes crappy fried scrunched up pictures of cats when zoomed in without messing with settings
You know that thing where you see a gorgeous view (left) and try to take a picture of it, but your phone camera is a joyless fucking nihilist who refuses to see the beauty in anything and only sees this (right)
#for the first 4 i remember only messing with the iso value because that was the only thing i knew back then#my default phone camera sucks ASS. so i was Driven to become a master at messing with the settings#perks of having an awful phone camera. it's peak incentive for you to start finding ways for the pictures to be less. awful#the camera of the poco x3 “”“”“”pro“”“”“”“ is nothing to brag about.#for one moment of captured beauty there could be 5 minutes of fiddling around.#“”“”“anyone could be a photographer”“”“”“ do you have what it takes to get to the right settings#which also happens to be in a reasonable amount of time#phone cameras will never. ever. beat actual cameras#having ai or whatever algorithm doing all the work for you might get you some nice pictures#but it will never get you the Authentic Photography Experience#twiddling with phone settings is the ultimate phone activity (other than messing with the picture editor)#(and looking through the settings app!!!!!!!!)#now imagine playing with the settings on an actual camera. hm.#THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT MAKES CAMERAS AND PHOTOGRAPHY SO APPEALING TO THE PHOTOGRAPHERS#PLAYING WITH SETTINGS IS FUN. FINALLY FIGURING OUT THE BEST SET OF SETTINGS BRINGS JOY#then said set of settings proceeds to work awfully for another picture 5 seconds later so hou start all over again with something new#all part of the Authentic Photograhy Experience.#so yeah. i got into photography all because my phone camera was hella shit#even though it calls itself the 48mp ai “”“”“”“”“super camera”“”“”“”“”“#the ai behind this camera must be pretty awful at shooting pictures#and that is why i prefer to take over control manually#i think this is a good example of creativity by necessity because i was driven to be creative due to the shittiness of my phone camera.#this is what a shitty phone camera can do to you#photography#reblog

now hiring: someone to keep tabs on me and hit me with a car if i break and splurge on a dslr before learning at least 5 songs on my bass
#ive been tinkering with the manual camera stuff on my phone camera#but it's not enough. i need a Camera camera#but i also am only months into owning my bass and have barely touched it#trying to do that thing where i dont keep pinballing from expensive hobby to expensive hobby#lets see how it goes......#also itd probably be more prudent to get more familiar with the manual settings on my phone camera#before dropping quite a bit of money on a Camera#so i have a bit more of an idea what im doing. yknow.#also i dont exactly have the money to spare right now on a Camera#as if thats stopped me before#to the void with love

NEW TO PHOTOGRAPHY? - USE THE MANUAL SETTINGS
The only way to be comfortable with your camera is to use it. And the best way to learn how it works is to explore the manual settings. I know it is easy to just use the Auto settings, but you will never become creative that way. You must practice .. practice … and practice … with the manual settings. Take them one at a time. See what the aperture settings do to your images. Experiment with…
