Oh good it’s still Mermay, so I finally got to introduce my favorite dnd villain I have to the game I run! His name is Oceili and he’s a mantis shrimp centaur (a Shrimptaur you could say)

I know like this would fall under a merfolk more but I like the idea of a Shrimptaur more. He is full of himself and is 100% in the closet. Anyway enjoy my egotistical shrimp man

Mantis Shrimp merform Bobo

I was planning to have this done earlier this month, but then Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom came out and I got sucked into the game. Also the two monitors I've been using weren't displaying colors similarly so I learned about color calibration and hopefully my monitors are now color accurate. A bit disappointing to learn most of my art is most likely duller than what I thought they were. One way to see if my monitor is color accurate would be to print something out, but that requires being certain my printer isn't low on any colors and is printing like it should...

I did not shade this piece mostly out of laziness and wanting to get this done before May is over. I might shade it some other time, but I don't even know if I will or not. If I do, hopefully I remember to share it here.

Mermay Day 13: Mantis Shrimp

If things will not hide in the coral reef, there is a good reason for it, and it should serve as a warning. Tyla caused quite the stir to beach goers and explorers alike, punching holes into whatever ships crossed her territory. Turns out she lost a clutch to a boat several months prior. We roped off her territory, and let her get reacclimated to human's presence. The boaters weren't happy we kept the ropes up long term, and can't say I care too much. But she won't hurt swimmers anymore, and that's what matters.

Mer/Undersea AU

I read a book about fish and now I have a bunch of ideas for merMay characters.

Eel

•electric shocking ability

•very long, dark green tail, maybe some speckled patterns if you want. The fins would be short, maybe the width of four fingers, and stretch all the way from where knee length might be in an eel tail all the way down to the end of the tail, on both front and back

Axolotl

•perpetually cute

•six gills are outside body in the same fashion as regular axolotls, where the ears would be

•pink or blue medium-sized tail with huge fin that goes all the way down the length of it, just Google axolotl tail

•yes I know axolots have legs, but still just traditional mer stuff

Mantis shrimp

•very powerful punches

•can see many more colors than other beings, also has blank pink eyes with small pupils

•for the tail, think centaur but mantis shrimp
