BG3 spoilers ending thoughts idk I'm just ruminating bc I fried my brain studying
Ibr I thought Raphael's deal would like. Entail something actually useful or enticing like him being able to prevent anyone from turning into a mindflayer if the emperor leaves (Like he implies he can/will when you first meet him) but instead like nothing happens. I just get the hammer u can get even if u don't do the deal.
#larian you should have hired me#i would have raphael be able to uno reverse the ilithid transformation#at the cost of oopsi ur now in a contract w him#and make destroying that contract harder#bg3 spoilers#like idk man.#the difference in how i feel abt the bg3 endings vs say...the enderal endings.....#which are arguably 'not happy' endings but enderal somehow#manages to have more satisfying conclusions/sacrifices#despite being like. a fucking mod ppl worked on as a hobby#i know bg3 has more complications in terms how many little things affect endings#but overall?#i do feel like a lot of the endings were trying to be edgy? and then got toned down#and tbh karlach dying vs going to avernus is the only one i felt emotional about.

I hate those Daenerys is going to sacrifice herself/die theories so much it genuinely makes me tweak and I have never been the type of person to get upset at all over fiction or any type of media, but this irks me so bad because not only is Daenerys my absolute favorite character of all time, it’s upsetting how the female character is always the one who has to die for others sakes and never achieve anything for herself. Yes, it’s her destiny as AA to fight the Others, but that doesn’t mean that she has to die doing it. Like, seriously, after we got F&B and saw how many Targaryen women struggled with misogyny and being passed over for the throne, it feels upsetting to me if the one who is supposed to break the wheel will never have a chance to do so. I do love Bran but I do not see him fit to sit on the throne, not to mention how young he is and will be at the series end unless George does a massive timeskip, and after the whole world is in shambles after the Long Night, who is more fitting to sit on the throne and help mend things and lead the people forward? A well experienced ruler and fighter who will bring along a new age of change, or a child with no such experience? Perhaps it’s just me being salty but I just really want the best for my favorite character who I believe deserves to have her shot at having a home and being able to rule and change the world together with the other characters. Especially after the end of GoT, which no I don’t ever believe that George will go that route, but with how everything happened in the show, it looked like Westeros was a completely and utter mess and there was nobody capable left to pick up the pieces, Bran’s ascension to the throne was so random too and didn’t even feel satisfying or like a good conclusion (not that those two incapable idiots could ever produce a satisfying ending, but yeah). What are your thoughts on this? I just feel sad that fellow Dany fans are literally enthusiastically waiting for her death in the upcoming books as if there isn’t a better destiny for her :( The female character who managed to rise to power and become a ruler in her own right dying or giving that up to the men in order to “settle down” leaves such a bad taste in my mouth and doesn’t look like the subversion George has done with her character at all.
I definitely agree with you anon, Dany dying/sacrificing herself really doesn't seem to fit with her story. Yes, Dany certainly would be willing to die to save the world, but that doesn't seem to be where GRRM is writing her.
Dany's story is saturated with life; which is pretty ironic since she's been called "Daughter of Death". She's closely tied to themes of fertility (mother of dragons, helloo), rebirth (Azor Ahai, entering the pyre), and survival/endurance.
Dany's story shares very little similarities to characters who have been set up for death. For example, Robb. Dany may share some superficial similarities to Robb, but the signs of Robb's impending death are not shared at all. GRRM always sets up the deaths of his major characters from their introductions. That hasn't happened with Dany; if anything we see a set up to her surviving.
You're so right about how people are foaming at the mouth for Dany's death. Her dying after everything she's been through and everything she stands for is just...no. It feels so gross and has some really concerning undertones.
The woman who actually fought for change and made a massive upheaval in the status quo, who genuinely cares for all her people, who understands the responsibility of ruling, who demonstrates incredible wisdom, who only wants to make the world better dying for the sake of the story is just wow.

-> the one moment she should have showed a little of bit of vulnerability was the one the writers chose to tell us, "oh look at our heroin who resists so well Sauron's temptation ! She's so badass !"
Thank you for pointing that out. She deserved better lines, and her arc should've been more consistent. So this is a wild take, but I think I would've liked to see her attempt to run away with the Nine rings instead of head-on attack Sauron. He should have hunted her a bit, I mean, make him chase her a bit to get the rings, turn up the horror, the emotions, less taunts/action shots.
Celebrimbor sacrificed his life to give Galadriel a chance to flee with the rings, and she knew that she couldn't really win against Sauron, not like this. Celebrimbor died, but he cut Sauron with his words. They didn't let Galadriel to do the same, and there was no real conclusion to the anguish that she expressed to Elrond in 2x02 when she cried and said she couldn't let Sauron in again. She deserved better.
I know where you come from, because the Nine ending up in Sauron's hands made Celebrimbor's sacrifice look pointless. He was tortured for hours maybe, resisted and died telling Sauron the Nine were out of his reach, and for what? I felt so bad for him.
What infuriated me the most is that the only idea that Galadriel had was to join Adar, of all people. Adar !! The very man who was destroying Celebrimbor's city ! And even if Adar didn't betray Galadriel, it's this decision that caused Sauron to find Galadriel and the Nine. Talking of Adar, I somehow doubt that he would have respected his part of the bargain ; his instant redemption/epiphany didn't seem very believable to me, especially since as soon as he took Nenya off, the corruption went back. This plotline really only worked because he died 5 minutes later :/
The most logical thing for Galadriel to do was to try to run away from Eregion as fast as she could imho. Sauron would have found her anyway, probably tipped by an Orc, but her idea of suddenly trusting Adar was... Certainly a choice. The last time she had done that he had backstabbed her, so why the confidence?
That said, I also don't see how a scenario where she managed to keep the Nine would have worked. All she had to do was to join Gil-Galad and Elrond, they'd have hidden the Nine in Lindon and that was it? I mean, Sauron is probably going to attack Lindon anyway, this was heavily hinted at the end, but if Galadriel had taken the rings he would have attacked them to get them back?
I completely agree with you about the difference between Celebrimbor's and Galadriel's last words to Sauron. She cut Sauron too when she rejected him once more, but her "victory" on him didn't feel earned at all. Her saying "heal yourself" may sound like a very cool call back to his scene with Celebrimbor, but the problem is that Galadriel wasn't in the room when Celebrimbor and Sauron's last exchange happened. She never had a similar conversation with Sauron herself, so her injunction to "heal himself" came out of nowhere, and can't have touched him because at no moment she taunted him like Celebrimbor did. There are already enough criticism regarding Galadriel acting "childish" (something I don't agree with, let me make that clear).... If they keep on giving her the shittiest lines, while her male counterparts all sound wiser than she is, it's not going to make this impression change.
The main problem is that during the fight, we're supposed to be in awe because despite the doubts she expressed through all season 2, she "resisted the temptation to join him for good", but he didn't even remotely try to tempt her so again, and she didn't hesitate, not even a minute ! It's all "tell and don't show" while it should have been the exact opposite.
My honest opinion is that they wanted to cram all the finals of each arc in one episode, and there was just not enough time to do that ! It required at least 90 minutes of screen time to be a satisfying finals.
It wasn't even only Galadriel's and Sauron's arc that left me frustrated, but everything, pretty much. The Balrog apparently returned to bed after killing Durin III and their biggest problem is succession? The revelation of the stranger's identity as Gandalf was underwhelming, and so was his encounter with the Dark Wizard, which should have come sooner and be more developed. The Numenor's arc felt very rushed as well.

Oshi no Ko ending
No magical macguffin ending so its nice Aka didn't pick easy option. I think this ending did well because it goes back to being what an idol means. To shine and gives hope to its fans, even with love called lies. That said the resolution feels a bit rushed since it just several wordless pages showing other characters conclusion.
Anyway if OnK ED1 tells the foreshadow Aqua's conclusion with him drowning, then OnK ED2 foreshadow Ruby's ending with her running and moving forward despite her sadness.
At the end of day Sarina/Ruby finally achieved her dream of being star idol like Ai. On the grim reality side its Aqua's death causing more sensation to Ruby to boost her career, and on the light dreamful side its Ruby's perseverance to keep going on despite the tragedy that inspires people to love and admire her. And she did by copying her mom ability to tell lies to herself.
All in all its Ruby basically succeeding where Ai fails at.
Lets think about.
What Gorou's regret? His regret unable save Sarina and let her becomes an idol.
What Sarina and Ruby's dream? To become an idol like Ai.
What Aqua's desire in the first volume? To avenge Ai and kill her murderer, Kamiki.
All that achieved one way or another. So in a sense Aka didn't lie when he said the ending is exactly what he envisioned from the beginning.
The reason why Ai falls is because Kamiki killed her. His obsession is the biggest and final obstacle to this series. Ai, the manager, Miyako, Ruby and Aqua's dream falls is because of Kamiki. The moment Aqua removed him, their dreams becomes true through Ruby, even if takes Aqua to sacrifice himself.
Now you ask does Aqua have to die? Well think about it:
How can Aqua achieve what he set to do if he survives? Ask Akane's help to create a perfect crime? Ignoring that also dirties Akane's hand in murder and ignoring the impact on her psychology onward, its also assuming that Akane can truly create a perfect crime, something that Kamiki who is just as intelligent proven to be false as his perfect crime on Ai got busted years later.
Hell I'd argue we should've seen the ending coming the very first moment Aqua said he wants to kill Ai's murderer, cause how he is gonna do so without dragging Ruby's future as an idol? I imagine this was his plan from the get go or at least after he convinced that Ruby is really serious becoming an idol.
So Aqua chooses to commit double suicide with Kamiki, but the different with Akane's attempt at suicide is that Akane did it out of despair and her doing so saves no one, while Aqua did it to save Ruby, in other words Aqua martyred himself.
Honestly my biggest gripe is that Ruby and others went from despair to having hope again in span of two chapters, and it was depicted wordless with just pictures. Its not particularly satisfying and usually Oshi no Ko will have introspective dialogue of how modern society works. The last chapters missing all that so it just feels rushed.
Also in the end the crow girl are just plot device for the reincarnation stuff and there's no explanation about them. Though someone mentioned about special chapter so if its true maybe it'll be there it gets revealed.
All in all not too bad, its a sad ending but its ties the theme well so I accept it.

So I just finished Kamen Rider OOO, and I have so many thoughts and feelings and I honestly cannot believe they actually ended it the way they did.
I know some of my friends are still watching it so I'm putting the rest under the cut
I was waiting for there to be another 10min of show where they'd follow up on the, like, "desire is a powerful thing that can bring evolutionary change never before seen" and the whole thing about Hina figuring out how to save Eiji, Shingo, AND Ankh to come up with SOME way to fix Ankh's broken medal.
Like it seemed like there were a lot of moments pointing to that- some miraculous change or big!!!! Thing!!!! that Kougami seemed to hint at through the whole show. But then the credits started rolling, and then when the credits had like a "look what everyone is up to now" thing going in the background I thought maybe they were gonna get to it there- and I guess they kind of did sorrrrta with Eiji looking at the medal pieces and being like "someday I'll find a way..." with Ankh's??? Ghost????? Following him around, and just kind of left it open ended, but I guess I kind of expected something a little more on the nose considering all the lead up?
I guess maybe that just could have simply been referring to the final OOOs "power up" or whatever? But honestly that wasn't mind-blowingly powerful since Maki managed to deflect that one massive blow with relative ease, and it was using Ankh's medals that actually gave him the power to finish the job.
So I guess I was sort of expecting some extra "miracle" to happen or something? Maybe I was just hoping for some deus ex machina thing to save the day and have everyone live happily ever after or something. But at the same time I'm not actually that upset about the ending, because it was kind of the logical conclusion - Ankh couldn't stay in Shingo's body, that was never going to happen, so what excuse could they give for him to have a body of his own? It's not like the medals grant wishes. Maybe there could have been some mad science or something building off the work of those ancient alchemists or whatever, but that would have really been pulled from nowhere. I was almost hoping they would, like, idk have shared custody of Eiji's body?? Since there was so much weird stuff happening with Eiji's body?? Kind of like a Revice situation??
But I also like everyone to have a good, happy ending. I wanted Ankh to have better. I wanted him to actually consciously appreciate the life he had after he finally realized he had it. Not just retrospectively, not just "I am able to die because you helped me live" in the last 2~3 episodes. I wanted him to have a future of experiences he could actually enjoy in the moment. But just because that's how I wanted it to go doesn't mean that was how it should have ended either.
Honestly, Ankh's character development felt so delayed to me that I was concerned they weren't going to get to it, yet somehow the scene with him and Eiji fighting in the water didn't feel like an afterthought, it was really satisfying and dramatic. I can't be mad cause they really hooked me in and tugged on all my heartstrings, and it was pretty emotional when Ankh decided to basically sacrifice himself fighting rather than focus on his own self preservation.
It was a good ending I think, even if I'm admittedly a sucker for "and then everyone lived" endings over "the consequences are real and the deaths are permanent and that's what makes his actions meaningful" endings.

'...Sherlock suffered the classic issue of peaking too early, as the show never quite topped the exciting second season in which Sherlock and John squared off with the legendary supervillain Moriarty, played in an award-winning performance by Andrew Scott. Moriarty was the ultimate Sherlock villain because he was the only character that was Sherlock’s intellectual equal; the difference between them is that Moriarty is willing to make any sacrifices necessary in order to “win” what he considered to be “the great game.” It was through his competition with Moriarty that Sherlock realized that there were more important things for him to care about, such as his friends. Sherlock’s dramatic self-sacrifice at the end of the episode “The Reichenbach Fall” offered a definitive conclusion to the Moriarty storyline, and promised an exciting mystery regarding the nature of his survival for the subsequent season to address.
Unfortunately, Sherlock never offered a satisfying answer about how its main character survived. It may have been easy to dismiss this error if the show had conceived of a compelling new antagonist, but unfortunately, there was never another villain who could match Scott in terms of pure charisma. Lars Mikkelsen was completely adequate as the ruthless businessman Charles Augustus Magnussen, but he never managed to get under Sherlock’s skin in the same way that Moriarty had...'

A Plague Tale: Innocence - An Ode to Affect Theory
BLOG 8: EMOTIONS FROM GAME CONTENT
Stories become my haven in the middle of my everyday life, providing a diversion from the monotony that is all around me. I have always been fascinated by stories and have found comfort and fascination in a variety of storytelling mediums. The world of video games is one medium in particular that has had a profound effect on me; the combination of gameplay and narrative elevates storytelling to new levels. Out of all of these, "A Plague Tale: Innocence" has distinguished itself as a shining example by crafting a story that has profoundly connected with me.
The narrative of A Plague Tale: Innocence has evolved from being merely a virtual journey to a place where I can engage in introspection and emotional connection while navigating the challenges of everyday life. The plot of this Asobo Studio game, with its highs and lows and a satisfying and heartfelt ending, has left a lasting impression on me.
About The Plague Tales Innocence
Let's pause to enjoy the game itself before getting into the scholarly analysis. A Plague Tale: Innocence, created by Asobo Studio, transports players to mediaeval France during the Black Death's devastating outbreak and harrowing journey through a deadly rat infestation. The relationship between Amicia and Hugo de Rune, two siblings, is at the center of the game as they make their way through a world tainted by death, trickery, and the paranormal.

Academic Standpoint
Affect theory is fundamentally a contemplative mode of inquiry that draws our attention to the complex subtleties of the human condition. Affect theory explores how our interactions with the world are shaped by the subtle and implicit factors that affect our feelings and emotional reactions. Understanding cultural artefacts, like video games, requires a thorough consideration of affect; otherwise, a thorough analysis falls short. (Simecek, 2020)
Game's Relation to Affect Theory
Game Synopsis
Set in 1348, following a vicious attack on their family, Amicia and her sick brother Hugo manage to flee the clutches of the Inquisition. There is a deadly and enigmatic rat infestation known as the Bite all around them. The siblings forge alliances and overcome obstacles as they make their way through dangerous situations and discover Hugo's special powers. They set out to find a treatment for Hugo's illness, and in the process, they come across unexpected alliances, betrayals, and sacrifices. A number of challenges, such as breaking into a university and searching for a book known as the Sanguinis Itinera, are encountered throughout the story. They make allies along the way, including Mélie, Arthur, and Rodric, all of whom add nuance to their tale. The conclusion is marked by a confrontation with Grand Inquisitor Vitalis Bénévent. Hugo's skill at controlling the rats becomes crucial to their victory over their formidable foe. They suffer losses, including Rodric's sacrifice, but they manage to overthrow the Inquisition. After it is discovered that the rat plague has passed, things begin to return to normal. Even so, some of Hugo's friends continue to doubt his abilities. The story allows for contemplation on the significance of their experiences as they set out on a new adventure with an ailing Béatrice. "A Plague Tale: Innocence" is an intense and emotionally charged game that combines elements of suspense, betrayal, sacrifice, and the strength of familial bonds into a compelling narrative.
Cultural References and Inferences
The narrative backdrop of "A Plague Tale: Innocence" is drawn from the historical accounts of the Black Death, a catastrophic pandemic that wreaked havoc across Europe from 1347 to 1351. This deadly outbreak left a lasting legacy across the continent, killing more people than any known epidemic or war at the time. The Black Death's aftermath had a significant impact. At first, trade fell off sharply and wars were temporarily put on hold. The loss of laborers resulted in a significant decrease in cultivated land, which had a longer-lasting effect. Due to the lack of labor, many landowners were forced to adopt new strategies in order to retain their tenants, such as paying money rent or wages in lieu of labor services. This ultimately led to their downfall. Not to mention, the labor scarcity brought about important social shifts. Landlords started to deviate from conventional structures as a result of their struggle to find substitute labor arrangements, which resulted in the replacement of wages and the growth of money rents. Consequently, there was a general pay increase for artisans and peasants. As a result of these changes in economic dynamics, the previously inflexible social stratification became more flexible, changing the face of society. The depiction of a world devastated by the Bite, similar to the actual Black Death, in "A Plague Tale: Innocence," serves as a moving reminder of the significant societal changes that can occur following catastrophic events. The game explores the effects of a devastating pandemic on both an individual and societal level, encapsulating the essence of this historical era and fusing it into the narrative.
Other Contributors
Central to the gripping narrative of "A Plague Tale: Innocence" is the enigmatic Prima Macula, a curse rooted in ancient lore that poisons the blood of specific families. The Latin translation of "first spot," the Macula, reveals itself as a malevolent force with a self-awareness that adds an eerie dimension to its existence. The curse appears randomly and is first detected in a person's blood from birth; however, the cause of this discovery is still unknown. Hordes of rats appear in the surrounding areas as the Macula develops in the blood of its carrier, a sign of impending doom. These rats end up serving as the Bite's messengers, heralding in a catastrophic plague outbreak.
Overall Evaluation
The narrative of "A Plague Tale: Innocence" is a poignant exploration of death, portraying the demise of major characters that evokes a range of negative emotions such as sorrow, grief, and despair. The overarching theme of death permeates both the visual elements and the intricate plot, creating a compelling and emotionally charged experience for players. There are other emotions like shock, pain and agony too.
The game skillfully utilizes passive actors, such as those succumbing to the Bite (Bubonic Plague), to reinforce the central theme of death. This historical backdrop, rooted in the bleak reality of the Bubonic Plague, adds a layer of realism to the narrative, making it a powerful reflection on one of the most somber periods in our past.
The introduction of the Prima Macula as a supernatural element amplifies the emotional intensity of the story. It instills a palpable sense of fear and darkness, particularly for those with phobias related to rodents or rats. The Prima Macula serves as a catalyst for terror, contributing to the overall atmospheric tension that defines the game.
The game's narrative succeeds in encapsulating the essence of a historical event known for its depressive impact. It effectively elicits overwhelming emotions from the audience, creating an immersive experience that extends beyond mere gameplay.
Conclusion
In addition to being an engrossing video game, "A Plague Tale: Innocence" is a visceral exploration of the turbulent terrain of human emotion. Players can relate to the story's poignant and evocative experience because of its relentless exploration of death and historical basis in the Bubonic Plague. The emotional stakes are raised when the otherworldly Prima Macula is introduced. She adds a layer of darkness and fear. The game creates a tapestry of sorrow, grief, and despair through the interplay of masterfully rendered graphics, an engaging story, and deft storytelling, leaving a lasting impression on the player's emotional compass. "A Plague Tale: Innocence" is a testament to the power of video games as a medium for emotional storytelling, where the immersive narrative not only entertains but profoundly impacts the hearts and minds of those who embark on its haunting journey.

Egotober Day 7: Leaf/Leaves
A/N: This is a continuation of last year's drawing with the same prompt! It's based off of a concept my friend came up with five years ago?! and the rest of us bounced ideas off of that spawned from some emoji mishaps. I hope you enjoy!
Word count: like 1.1k
~~~
The crunching of leaves underfoot is much louder than Cherie expects as she walks along the sidewalk. It seems that more trees got the message that autumn is approaching than usual. It's a nice change of pace, though. She grins to herself and deliberately steps on a large maple leaf with a satisfying CRUNCH. A surprisingly cool breeze brushes past her, encouraging the bounce in her step. Alone as she is out here, it's refreshing: just her and nature.
Well, it is just her and nature until she hears small noises. At first, she thinks it's just a squirrel, same as usual; but it sounds more purposeful, more like…talking?
Her brow wrinkles in confusion. That's not the conclusion she expected to draw, but it does sort of sound like talking, in a very distant sense. Cherie glances around, but the park is as empty as ever. She would think she’s going crazy if it wasn’t for the rustling of leaves at the base of a nearby tree that looks almost like an animal is hiding underneath it. She stops, watching it warily…only to see small figures emerge, between one to two inches tall, dressed in what looks to be blue shirts and tan pants. It’s a group of about fifteen to twenty, all wearing the same clothes and otherwise all looking alike. They look awfully familiar…then one of them looks at her, and it clicks who she’s seeing.
"Ant Jims?!"
Cherie's voice gets so loud and high-pitched at the end that the small Jims can’t help but take notice. “Generous Cherie!” the one in front says as they scuttle over. Cherie meets them part of the way, closing the distance quicker than them. “How honored are we to be in your presence after so long!”
Cherie smiles sheepishly as she squats down. She forgot how the Ant Jims were. “Hello!” she says, normal volume at first; then, remembering that they can't hear her, she repeats herself, pretty much yelling, "HELLO! It is good to see you again! How are you!?"
“We are well! We have had our festival, and it was another grand success, the same as years past! All have become accustomed to the lack of sacrifices. Our children are appreciative.”
Oh, right, the festival. To honor her and her friend for being so kind to the small beings. Which reminds her of something: "Are the sweaters still holding up?"
"Oh, yes! Still as warm as the day you so graciously gifted them to us, as warm as when you repaired the sweaters of our forefathers! We packed them in our jim-cases!” One of the Ant Jims behind the main one points to the tiny suitcase in his hand before she can question what a “jim-case” was. "It is much warmer here, so we took them off!"
"Yes, it certainly is! And Momma Jim will be glad to hear that they are still keeping you all warm." It was the gift of sweaters that enamored the Ant Jims to Cherie to the extreme, worshiping her as a goddess, of all things. "What are you doing all the way here, though? Your home is nowhere near here."
"We're setting out on our own!" The other Jims nod out of sync. "Establishing a new colony! For the good of Jim!"
"Ah yes, for the good of Jim!" She tries not to giggle. They're too cute. “How did you manage to get to travel such a distance? Was there not great danger?”
“Oh, yes, indeed there was. We lost a few great Jims. They will be dearly missed.” A couple of the Jims close their eyes and bow their heads. “But all was worth it for a glimpse of one of the Great Ones!”
“But how did you get here?”
“Oh! Apologies, I hope I did not displease you! We traveled here on the falling leaves, wherever the wind would take us! And walking. Lots of walking.”
“No, you did not displease me! All is well.” The walking makes sense, although she wonders how long it took them to get to her, then. Probably a good long while, with the method they chose.
“Oh, good! The stories were true, you are indeed merciful!”
If it wasn’t for the fact this was normal with them, she’d think they’re laying it on a bit thick. Cherie shuffles to get a bit more comfortable on her haunches. “Where shall you travel now?”
“We do not know, but surely we will know when we arrive! Do you have any suggestions, o wise one?”
Cherie, truthfully, does not. But she does have an idea. “Would you like some help with your journey? I can bring you along with me. I must return to my home soon.”
“Oh, what an honor! Oh, happy day! The goddess is granting us safe passage through this strange land!” One of the Jims whoops with joy, and they all jump around in celebration.
Now Cherie can’t help but giggle, and she almost doesn’t continue her yelling at first. You may ride in and on my bag. I do not have very many places for you all to cling on to, so this will have to do. Take care not to get squished, and I shall take care not to jostle you all too much.”
“Oh thank you, thank you!”
Cherie moves her bag to in front of her, and the Ant Jims run towards it and jump on; one doesn’t quite make it like the others and has to simply climb from the bottom, looking a little bit embarrassed (probably for not sticking the landing in front of her). “We shall hold another celebration in your name! This day shall forever be remembered!”
You can’t stop an Ant Jim’s mind once it’s made up, in most circumstances, and this is no exception. And who is she to deny such festivities for such small Jims? “Sounds like a delightful time.” Cherie waits until it seems like everyone is settled, most of them with their arms over the sides holding themselves up at the edge, then says “Is everyone ready to go?”
“Yes, Generous Cherie!” is the chorus that makes its way up to her, almost normal volume with all of them speaking at once. Carefully, Cherie lifts up her bag, and while a couple Jims almost fall into the depths of the bag, no one falls out. Her bag is soon over her shoulder, and she sets off.
Ugh looking at this pic with the dolls location again, i have a super wild theory.
in the previous post I talked about foreshadowing.
Well I'm thinking what if Asunaro has a chronological order for the deaths in this Death game?
I have no idea if the order of placement for these dolls is right to left like in Japan.
Chronological order from right to left.
Alice-> Gin-> Reko?-> Keiji-> Kanna-> Shin-> Q-taro-> Mishima
The dolls are all standing in the back and it's pretty obvious that their first trial is rigged so that only these nine candidates can survive. Not seeing Joe's doll reminds me of the simulations with Sara, maybe this is the chronological order of the deaths of the simulations?
I have a doubt if Sara killed Keiji seeing that she is close to him.
BUT if you try to read from left to right.
Mishima-> Q-taro-> Shin-> Kanna-> Keiji-> Joe?-> Reko-> Gin-> Alice
If Asunaro has a order of deaths in this Death Game, I think it could be this one.
There must be more behind Mishima's death and it could be for this reason. If Kai hadn't entered the game someone else would have gotten the sage card and could be Q-taro or someone else.
After Mishima's death, the orders were canceled due to the presence of non-candidates. Joe's death is suspicious enough, why did he get the sacrifice card? I've read speculation that Kai tried to give Joe the card so he could run off with Sara. It may be true. The first main game hides some mysteries.
Q-taro was supposed to die in the final attraction and now I understand why Safalin tried to protect Gin twice. He wanted to target Q-taro, but Ranger ruined her plans and killed a yabusame and the order went off the rails. She managed to get it back in the next chapter.
Shin and Kanna had to die in the second main game. If Gashu hadn't intervened in the second main game, Kanna would have managed to take the sacrifice card and Shin would have died with the majority vote.
Safalin seemed disappointed with the vote.
This death game will continue until there are 3 survivors left and then the majority vote, in the Kanna route there are 5 survivors, two have to die. What if Safalin plans to kill Kanna/Shin?
I have a gut feeling that Keiji will protect Kanna and die this time. He tried to protect her by taking the tag from her. Like Ranmaru in the Sou route and then he died no matter what. It could be interesting as redemption arc for Keiji to die instead of Kanna, since he regretted voting for her.
Sou route is missing one death, I wonder how Nankidai will conclude Keiji's redemption arc for this route? How will Keiji and Shin get good closure?
The only thing I can think is that Keiji will protect Shin because he is the only one who can help Sara and Gin run away of the game and he regrets voting for Kanna. Shin is satisfied in this way with Keiji's death.
Nankidai please if you plan to kill Keiji please unravel all the mysteries about him.
In conclusion seems that Safalin had in mind to keep Alice, Gin and Sara alive in the finale, but is no longer possible because in the Sou route they both died and they could die in the Kanna route, only these three survivors remain: Gin, Kanna/Shin and Sara.
Elegy for a Dead Hog
giving some air to an often maligned piece of sonic history (this was originally written & published in early 2021, before u ask about frontiers)
>> Read on Neocities <<
---
Shadow the Hedgehog is a game which exists in one of the smallest niches imaginable. Designed as a "darker, edgier" take on Sonic the Hedgehog (of all things), it wants to connect with an audience that has outgrown the franchise, but by virtue of its part in that very franchise can't push the boundaries too much. As a consequence the T-rated version of the game originally shown at E3 2004 simply does not exist. The final product sits at a much more comfortable E10+ rating, a game that gestures at the kind of maturity imagined in the minds of children at the onset of puberty, a game that yells DAMN but not fuck, a game that has guns but no blood. Of all the "darker, edgier" takes on beloved children's classics, Shadow the Hedgehog is perhaps the most toothless of all. And yet despite this, or perhaps because of it, the game almost manages to mean something.
Lets dial back for a moment. Shadow the Hedgehog (the character) was introduced in the series second 3D outing, Sonic Adventure 2. That game tells its story from two different perspectives in two different playable campaigns. In SA2's hero campaign, Shadow mostly exists as an elusive cool villain, a rival to our titular hero and at first glance seemingly just another minion of Dr. Robotnik. In the dark campaign, we learn that Shadow is actually the primary instigator of the game's central conflict, manipulating his companions into a literal doomsday plot motivated by an all consuming drive for revenge. Created by Dr Robotnik's grandfather to aid mankind, Shadow became grief stricken when his only friend, the professor's granddaughter Maria, was gunned down in front of him by the very military that once commissioned the professor's work—having later elected to shut it down.
Or at least, that's what we're first led to believe. in the final act of the game, we're shown the professor's final moments: a grim execution speech where he reveals that Shadow is his instrument of eventual revenge, coupled with the strong insinuation that some (if not all) of Shadow's memories are altered or fabricated. In an earlier confrontation with Rouge the Bat, Shadow openly acknowledges as much, but appears strikingly unphased. Shadow believes his identity continues to be defined by his memories and experiences, regardless of their authenticity. Even his ultimate decision to help the heroes stop the destruction of earth comes about when another character's plea reawakens a repressed memory of Maria begging Shadow to forgive humanity for their crimes. Shadow is defined entirely by his relationship to characters we only see through diaries and memory, and the conclusion of the game has him sacrifice himself for a world he has no remaining connection to. Its not a necessarily a well written character arc, but it gestures at a few complex ideas and is at least superficially a satisfying, self-contained story that plays out with a real sense of finality.
However, Shadow the Hedgehog was too popular a character for the series to part with. Contrary to the intentions of SA2's writers, he was brought back to the franchise immediately in Sonic Heroes, a decision that should in its own right entirely undermine the whole conceit of Shadow's character as it exists in Sonic Adventure 2. Surprisingly SonicTeam manage to make it work. Despite having next to no plot or character development in three of the four campaigns players are expected complete on the way to Heroes's true ending. The story of Team Dark follows an amnesiac Shadow slowly contending with the realization he is likely an android copy of the original, working the struggle with identity back into Shadow's character. Its a strangely believable way of reintroducing the character, and although not particularly well written it nonetheless stands out as the one bit of solid characterization in what is otherwise just a game with a b-tier Saturday morning cartoon plot.
Which brings us back to Shadow the Hedgehog. Set after Heroes the game follows our titular protagonist as he grapples with flashbacks to a history he doesn't remember, on the precipice of an alien invasion led by a creature who claims to know Shadow, and wants him to make good on a promise Shadow does not remember. What ensues is a weaving thread of confusing plot points as players choose between Good, Neutral & Evil objectives on every stage, mapping their way through a grid of levels and progressing toward one of ten defined ending sequences—each a different take on the amnesiac Shadow, and the sort of hedgehog he ultimately chooses to be. The spectrum here is wide: from benevolent hero, to maniacal villain, to a strangely nuanced tortured soul who regrets his own existence.
Importantly though, none of these endings truly feel earnt. As a consequence of the game's structure most individual stages fail to truly connect. In one cutscene Shadow might board a ship from the level he was just in, but when other stages need to progress the same way a slightly extended version of the scene plays where Shadow is teleported into a level he wasn't previously in, to then have the same scene play out — an inevitable concession to homogeneity necessitated by the sheer number of individual chain links the developers had to consider. The resulting state of affairs is fascinating. The story becomes a kind of negotiation between the player and the game, letting you plot out your journey through Shadow's choices as the game haphazardly tries to stitch them into a passable narrative.
The whole game feels like a dream: a confused mess of individually interesting ideas loosely jumbled into a singular vision, like a piece of fan fiction written by several different authors. This is ultimately what holds the experience together. Truthfully, Shadow the Hedgehog at best barely justifies its own existence. Edgier than its predecessors but hardly adult, it tacks on shooting and driving mechanics to a fast paced platformer they hardly have a place in, forcing the developers to awkwardly design confusing levels and tedious objectives to justify their inclusion. It is jam packed with stages that could easily support a single, meatier adventure, but stretches them out across an arbitrary ten playthroughs to create an appearance of 'content'. All 326 possible routes a player can take through the game are recorded and given individual names in the game's library, as if they are meaningfully distinct. By all rights it should just be a mess—and it is—but that jumbled threadbare disaster is precisely what allows the game to so perfectly articulate to the player exactly what its like to be Shadow the Hedgehog.
Shadow remembers nothing of who he was or what he was supposed to be, and yet every character he meets through the course of the game demands something of him. Everybody knows him, and everyone assumes he will simply come along and help them fulfil their objectives without regard for his own needs or wants. The only character to truly even acknowledge Shadow's amnesia is the villainous Black Doom, and only as a means of manipulating him into helping with the alien invader's agenda. Each paper thin 'story' the game cobbles together depicts a confused and empty Shadow slowly filling in the blanks of his soul, haphazardly assembling himself an identity as the player haphazardly assembles a campaign. In every ending he triumphantly declares "I am Shadow the Hedgehog" before defining what that actually means to him. Sometimes its hardly a coherent result of the player's decisions—but really, how could anyone form a real identity out of such fractured, incoherent events?
In the final, true ending to Shadow the Hedgehog, the collective cast face down Black Doom as it is at last made clear that Shadow was created by the professor in tandem with Doom himself. This retcon of Sonic Adventure 2's plot positions Shadow not just as a tool to help mankind, but also humanity's singular means of stopping the alien invasion. When faced with this revelation, and the choice of joining Black Doom or fulfilling the destiny the professor laid out for him, Shadow rejects the premise entirely: he declares for the first time that he is "Shadow the Hedgehog, and [he has put his] past behind [him]" before challenging Doom based solely on his personal decision to save the earth. For the first time, across all three games, Shadow does something because he wants too. When the game concludes and the credits play we watch as the cast members grapple with the conclusion, the government reckons with their own horrific acts against the professor and his granddaughter, and the colourful gang of furry animals rejoice over stopping a threat to the world. Then Shadow, standing by his lonesome, tosses a photograph of the professor and Maria over his shoulder as he makes a final declaration: "Goodbye forever... Shadow the Hedgehog". A sombre piano piece kicks in briefly before giving way to the most Crush 40 rock song ever conceived, a credits piece about moving on and never looking back.
Its hardly a profound conclusion, but it is in some respects the perfect one. Shadow the Hedgehog is a confused, turbulent game, a product of being a product designed for an audience on the cusp of outgrowing the franchise charm but not yet 'adult' — what better description of puberty is there than confused and turbulent? Shadow the Hedgehog is a game about trying to find identity when you don't know who you are, while everyone around you makes demands based on who they think you are and intend you to be. Its a game with guns and swearing, but no blood or language. Its an infantile take on adulthood: the game is profoundly teenaged, and in a roundabout way its confused, messy design manages to articulate that experience. You don't need to look far into the youtube comments sections of any video about Shadow the Hedgehog to find a wealth of people with a surprisingly strong nostalgia for a game that was clearly formative for them, and while it might be a bit much to suggest this makes it in anyway truly poignant, it does illustrate that sometimes all a game really needs to be is messy in the right ways, melodramatic in the right places, to resonate strongly with an audience who need it. I dare say—if you'll forgive me ending on a hot take—that it represents a much more interesting direction for Sega's mascot franchise than what it has since become.
Its no secret that Shadow was followed on by Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), a back to back pair of troubled development cycles and barely playable finished products that did nothing to help Sonic's slowly dwindling reputation. Sonic the Hedgehog especially exists more as a subcultural touchstone, a canvas on which people have produced more enjoyment through thinkpieces and let's plays than the game itself could ever provide in a vacuum. But that's the thing, isn't it? People still talk about Sonic the Hedgehog, and apparently they still talk about Shadow the Hedgehog. These confusing, messy games are, if nothing else, interesting. They have a distinct identity forged from all those rough edges and questionable choices.
Ever since SonicTeam 'got their act together' we've seen this vague creative spark die out, instead replaced by a litany of games that continue to barely iterate the formula introduced in Sonic Unleashed some 14 years ago, all the while the series writing has carefully consolidated across multimedia into a consistent curated vision that I could best describe as having the soul and human touch of a brand twitter account. If there's a moment Sonic truly became soulless, it was when the company decided to make 'classic Sonic' into his own distinct recurring character in the games, while doubling down on nostalgia for the pre-dreamcast games as hard as they possibly could.
The result is that all those rough edges that made the earlier 3D games interesting have been sanded away. The series has an image it maintains across several movies, tv shows, games and comics. Its always functional, always consumable, but its never truly interesting. The series is at this point well and truly sustained on pure nostalgia, not just from the films but the collections of classic Sonic games coming to mainstream systems at a higher price-point than the older collections released on sixth gen consoles over a decade ago—a questionable choice from a company who's mascot character once said "No copyright law in the universe is going to stop me."
Thus the inevitable question: where does Shadow the Hedgehog fit into this new, squeaky clean Sonic brand? The answer is that he doesn't. The themes that defined Shadow's character have all been cut away with the rough edges. Shadow today has been rewritten as a generic rival villain: the edgy antihero he's depicted as from one perspective of SA2's story, before you get to see the comparative depth he has next to the cast around him. Shadow the Hedgehog, unique in his several-game spanning character arc, can't possibly fit into Sonic the brand as it exists today.
It remains to be seen how they will incorporate him into the third Sonic film, but I suspect anyone hoping for earnest homage to Sonic Adventure 2 will be disappointed. Shadow is a relic from an era of Sonic that SEGA seems keen to forget, but nonetheless continues to pull ideas from. In some respects perhaps the company's worst failing on this front isn't dissociating from those games, but rather their inability to truly commit to doing so, forever tugging on the nostalgia of Dreamcast and Gamecube kids as they beg adults who grew up on the Genesis to repurchase the games of their childhood for the sixteenth time.
Having watched a friend play through the entirety of Shadow the Hedgehog on stream (I too question this decision, for the record), I'm struck by how ironic the games themes seem now in the wake of the franchise that succeeded it. Its a hopeless, terrible, messy game—one cynically conceived when some marketing stooge asked if they could give a Sonic character a gun. And yet, despite this, the game has more soul than anything SonicTeam makes today.
Leading Aluminium and Glass Company in Dubai
There are a few things to think about while looking for a trustworthy and reputed aluminium and glass company in Dubai. For your residential or commercial property, whether you're searching for glass windows, doors, or aluminum frames, it's critical to pick a provider who can satisfy your unique requirements and provide high-quality items. We will go over the important factors to consider in this guide when choosing a glass company in Dubai.
Credibility and Background
An important consideration when choosing a glass company in Dubai is their track record and level of experience. A business that has a solid track record and glowing testimonials from clients is more likely to offer dependable and fulfilling services. Seek out businesses who have been in business for a while and have finished projects comparable to yours.
Product Quality
The durability and endurance of your installations greatly depend on the quality of the aluminum and glass goods you use. Make sure the business you select employs premium materials that are made to endure Dubai's extreme weather. Inquire about the standards they uphold and the manufacturing process. It's also a good idea to find out if their products come with any assurances or warranties.
Variety of Services
Think about the variety of services the aluminum and glass company provides. Do they have expertise with both business and residential projects? Do they offer pre-made options or can they create designs to order? Seek out a business that can meet your unique needs and has the know-how to manage your project successfully.
Knowledge and Abilities
Selecting a business with a group of knowledgeable and experienced employees is crucial. Verify whether the organization hires skilled professionals who are informed about the most recent methods and trends in the sector. A business that specializes in installing both glass and aluminum may offer complete solutions and guarantee that your project is finished to the highest standards.
Client Support
An important component of any respectable business is its customer service. Seek out a leading glass company in Dubai that offers top-notch after-sales service, is communicative, and is prompt. A business that prioritizes client happiness is more likely to respond quickly to any complaints or problems and make sure that customers have a simple and hassle-free experience.
Cost and Accessibility
While price shouldn't be the only deciding element, the cost and affordability of the glass and aluminum company's services should be taken into account. Get quotations from several businesses, then evaluate them according to the caliber of the goods and services provided. Remember that the least expensive choice might not always be the best because it might sacrifice quality.
Citations and Resume
Request references or a portfolio of the glass and aluminum company's prior work. This can help you assess the caliber of their work and their suitability for projects that are comparable to yours. If you want to see the installations up close, you can also ask to visit any of their completed work.
In conclusion, Glass Company in Dubai
Selecting the best glass company in Dubai is essential to the project's success. You can make an informed decision and guarantee that your glass and aluminum installations are of the greatest quality and satisfy your particular requirements by taking into account criteria like reputation, experience, product quality, range of services, expertise, customer service, price, and references.
CAS Project Final Post
For my CAS project, a group of my friends created a Raszmageddon team, whose objective was to complete a Runmageddon OCR Race. The race took place on the 27th of May 2023 and encompassed a distance of 6km with many obstacles, which included ice baths, carrying immense weights, flipping tires, climbing walls, and many more. Through training sessions and individual preparation, we were able to all successfully complete the race.
Stages:
Planning - in the planning stage for our project we formed a team of motivated students and divided ourselves into different roles. My role in the team was pacemaking. Therefore, I focused on the quality of the group running sessions by measuring and controlling the pace with which we were running. In the planning stage, we also created our social media page (https://www.instagram.com/raszmageddon/), where we promoted ourselves, training sessions, and our cas project in general.
Preparation - the OCR race is not only about being able to run a distance of 6km but also overcoming distinct physical challenges. For that reason, our group sessions encompassed not only collaborative running but also exercising. Even though we had a lot of scheduled meetings, each of the group members also prepared individually, as each of us possessed different physical abilities. For some, the race might have been much more challenging than for others but overall the training sessions ensured that everyone was prepared for the race. In addition, we increased the engagement of our social media platform. Thanks to the group members whose roles were assigned to focus on social media, we conducted a photo shooting session making a mug shot for each of the members. As a result, through promotion videos and collaboration with followers, we were able to gather over 900 followers.
Race completion - on the 27th of May I completed the Runmageddon OCR race. I managed to finish in the top 600 out of more than 3000 competitors. Even though I was not the fastest in our group I was more than satisfied with my result as it really required a lot of sacrifice for me. It was probably the most demanding physical activity I had done and it genuinely required a lot of stamina from me. Additionally, I was positively surprised by the fact that I managed to overcome each of the obstacles during the race. Overall, it was an interesting experience and I am glad that with our preparation we all were able to successfully complete it I am looking forward to trying another more challenging one in the future.
Reflection - as I have completed the race I feel that I definitely developed a lot of skills without which I would not be able to complete the race. The obstacle that I would highlight that was the most challenging was carrying the 25kg chain for more than 700m. Furthermore, this obstacle happened to be in the middle of the race, after I had gone through a lot of challenges which made this even harder. In conclusion, I can say that the preparation and training were definitely worth it as the joy and the feeling of relief in the end are not comparable. Through collaborative efforts in the CAS project, I successfully undertook and conquered a truly demanding and challenging task. This experience not only enhanced my physical skills but also fortified my bonds with friends, making our relationships more robust.
All of Our Demise (All of Us Villains, #2) by Amanda Foody and C.L. Herman
Back again, with one of my long overdue reviews (I read this book at release, so yes, late to the party…). The last book in this enthralling dark fantasy series, “All Of Our Demise,” brings the thrilling and bloody magical tournament to a dramatic conclusion. Illvernat’s ancient curse is unraveling, prompting the champions who have managed to survive to face a crucial decision. They must choose their loyalty and endure the inevitable consequences, ultimately leading to one of two endings, neither of which can be achieved without dreadful sacrifices.
The pacing in this one is noticeably slower compared to the first, but it didn’t bother me since I felt it added to the storytelling. Some story and character developments felt a bit unexpected, but I was still pleasantly surprised by the twists and turns that ultimately led to a satisfying conclusion. Each character experienced a redemption arc, and I was generally satisfied with it. I definitely enjoyed how Gavin’s story took quite the turn, and yet despite his redemption arc, he still remained one of my least favorite characters (I disliked him in the first book, and even if he was more likable in the second, I still couldn’t connect with him).
I’ll keep my promise and refrain from sharing more details about the story and the ending, particularly the parts involving Briony Thorburn (whom I adore! Hands down my favorite morally gray character in the entire book!). So what else? The writing! Just like the first book, the writing was excellent. Amanda Foody and C.L. Herman are incredibly talented writers who make an amazing team. I definitely want to read more books co-written by them.
To sum up, I gladly give this book a perfect rating of 5 stars.
If you are unfamiliar with this series, I urge you to try it. The presence of magic and some other elements gives it a touch of Harry Potter, while the overall vibe is reminiscent of Hunger Games (what is not there to love? Unless, of course, you don’t like Hunger Games and/or HP). And if you have read the first book but have not delved into the second and last installment, it’s high time to catch up!
