Via 7News Australia's first monolith appears with engravings of 3 coordinates. The top coordinate marks Trump Tower in New York, while the one below takes you to a tiny, uninhabited island named Managaha in the Northern Mariana Islands, near Guam. Bizarrely, the bottom coordinates lead to The Sphinx, in Egypt’s Al Giza Desert.

Saipan
outline
An island in the US Northern Mariana Islands in the western Pacific Ocean. It is an island with many mountains, including Mount Tagpochau, which is 466m high, and has a length of 19km and a width of 9km at its widest point. The Chamorros have been inhabited since about 2000 BC, and the Carolinas moved to live there in the 19th century. After being ruled by Spain in the 16th century, it was ruled by the United States in the middle of the 20th century, through Germany and Japan, and then incorporated into an autonomous territory of the United States.
geography
Saipan is located about 200km north of Guam and is an island with many mountains including Mt. Tagpochau at 466m. The length is 19km, and the width at its widest point is 9km. The Gulf of Merzisien (Laurau) and the Port of Tanerpag are on either side of the island, and the small island of Tinian lies just southwest of the Saipan Strait. It has an area of 115.4 square kilometers.
history
The Northern Mariana Islands, including Saipan, have been inhabited since about 2000 BC. The early inhabitants of this area were the Chamorro people, and there are still rare remains of the Chamorro people at that time. The island was occupied by Spain in the 15th century. In 1815, while the Chamorro natives were forcibly moved to Guam by the Spanish in 1815, the Carolinas from the nearby Satawal Island moved to Saipan. Later, the Chamorro and Carolina tribes came to live on the island.
Saipan, which was under Spanish rule from 1565 to 1899, was under German rule from 1899 to 1914, and from 1920, after World War I, under Japanese trusteeship. Japan initially developed it as an agricultural area, such as growing sugar cane for sugar production, but before the Pacific War, Saipan was turned into a logistical base for rear support, and about 30,000 soldiers were stationed there.
After the Japanese forces were repelled by the US forces in June 1944 during World War II, Saipan came to be controlled by the US military, and the US military built an airfield here and used it as a military base. From 1953 to 1962, it was used as a base for the US Navy. After receiving the trusteeship of the United Nations, the Northern Mariana Islands, including Saipan, were incorporated into the United States in 1986.
industry and tourism
Saipan's administrative center is Susupei, and the Northern Mariana United States Federal headquarters is located in Chalankanoa, which is also Saipan's major city. Saipan International Airport is located in Kagman. Copra is the main crop produced by the islanders, and subsistence crops include taro taro, cassava, hemp, breadfruit, and banana.
Tourism has developed as a major industry in Saipan since the 1970s. As Japan, which had occupied Saipan for a while, discovered the potential of Saipan as a tourist destination, it developed resort facilities such as hotels and resorts in the northern Garapan area, resulting in a surge in tourists. Coastal roads such as Beach Road and Micro Beach on the north coast are known as promenades. Managaha Island, accessible by boat from Micro Beach, offers snorkeling and scuba diving within a natural breakwater made of coral reefs.
Remains include Memorial Park and a small museum to commemorate the war dead in the United States, Sugar King Park to commemorate the Japanese who established the sugar industry by planting sugar cane, and the Saipan History Museum. Japanese military relics from World War II, such as the Japanese Army Headquarters, Suicide Cliff, and Manse Cliff, still remain.
