And to think the animated movie version of Nimona was almost this close to being shelved if Netflix had not picked it up.
Yes, it’s good. It’s very good. I’ll let other people talk about the plot points, the characters and the pretty nifty soundtrack. (Santogold? Yes, please.)
I am here to talk about the animation.
Watching this movie made me realize what I don’t like about Pixar movies lately. Yes, Pixar’s the king of realism. And, yes, Nimona is way more design simple compared to Pixar. But the one thing Nimona has over Pixar is how the characters move.
Pixar characters don’t really move. Yes, they walk. Yes, they gesture. Yes, they will do things.
But they don’t “act.”
For example, there are many parts of Nimona where you could turn off the sound and still follow the story like it was a silent movie of old. The characters’ body language and facial language tell a story on their own. They fill up a whole screen with their mannerisms. This is Buster Keaton. This is Charlie Chaplin. This is Harold Llyod.
You don’t really get that with Pixar. And while that was fine years ago because everyone was striving for realism and Pixar was showing everyone how to animate hair, now, it’s.....boring.
Realism isn’t the end goal anymore. It’s a one trick pony that really should be out to pasture. Now people want to see what else you can do with animation. Spider-man: Across the Spider-verse showed that there are a wide range of styles you can pull from. Even taking ideas from Impressionism, Modern pop art (Check out Jean-Michel Bisquiat) and commercial art (See Bollywood film posters for example). Nimona is now showing how much acting range you can get from their animation. I’ve already watched it twice. Once for the story. The other just to watch the characters “act.” I’ll probably watch it a few more times because that animation, THAT ANIMATION!
I want more of that. Take notes, Pixar.
#nimona#animated movies#Did I mention this movie almost made me cry#Almost#I caught myself going NO NOT TODAY TEARS!#GET BACK IN THERE!

I was unaware that Diego Rivera had done a set of massive fantastical-industrial murals for the Detroit Institute of Arts -- he was commissioned to do only a few panels but apparently wanted to do the entire courtyard, so one of the Fords (as in Henry) ponied up the cash for it. It’s absolutely fucking epic and spectacular; if you like the above you really should check them all out.
These are just two of my favorite panels; one shows the manufacture of chemical weapons (note bomb in background -- this was done in 1933 prior to the atomic bomb, so very prescient). The other is what I started thinking of as the Nativity of the Vaccine -- it’s a scene of scientists vaccinating a young child, but it’s deliberately designed to invoke images of the adoration of the Madonna and child. As the docent explained, the Madonna is also based on Jean Harlow, which caused a scandal when it was unveiled, “A Mexican Communist putting a sexpot film star into the role of the Virgin.” Absolutely compelling, richly-layered, beautifully wrought work.
[ID: Two panels from the courtyard murals; one shows a number of men in WWI-style gas masks, doing various industrial tasks including checking the pressure on a vat, while a large bomb hangs ominously in the background. The other shows a young child, draped in a towel, being held by a woman in a white dress while a man on the other side vaccinates the child in his arm. Three “wise men” scientists are at work in the background, and several farm animals used to develop vaccines are shown in the foreground.]

New series in my journal I'm starting called "Lil' Critic Reviews" where I review some of my favourite things! These are some of my favourite shows!
Text version under cut;
Toopy & Binoo
I know the visual style and animation really isn't that appealing, but it's a very important childhood comfort show for me. I see myself in Binoo a lot, and Toopy is the exact kind of person I'd want caregiving for me, so it's very cathartic to explore this dynamic through the show.
Thomas The Tank Engine
There's nothing I can say that would truly capture how much I adore this show (and the original Railway Series books too!) I think the model engines are the most adorable things I've ever seen and I love the set designs, and I love that, even though this is a series about talking trains, it still feels like Sodor is a real place that any kid can visit while still being whimsical. It bridges the gap between realism and one's imagination.
Gabby's Dollhouse
A newer show that I feel is highly underrated, and by the same creators of Blue's Clues! Gabby's Dollhouse feels almost like a spiritual successor, where instead of a man and his cartoon dog, it's a teenaged girl and her dollhouse of toy kitties who come to life! It's such a fun and colourful show with a lot of songs that are sure to get stuck in your head, please try it out sometime!!
Elmo's World
I'm putting this one instead of the main Sesame Street show because the networks I grew up on here in Canada didn't have Sesame Street at the time, but they sure did have Elmo's World! I love that everything in his world (except for him and Dorthey) is drawn out of crayons (and, according to Elmo, there might not be a way out of Elmo's World!) It's such a funny and cute show, I love it!
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
This show is so nostalgic for me!!! I think Lauren Faust is an incredible artist and I adore how her style really shines through in this show with the visuals. The characters are also so memorable and have made themselves pop culture icons. I also really like the world-building in the show, even if it's sometimes very messy and contradicts itself…
Bluey
This one's a mandatory one, but Bluey really is a beautiful show. So beautiful in fact, that I can't watch it for very long, otherwise I get so emotional from how healthily the Heeler family is depicted. They're far from being perfect, but they love each other, and it makes me so happy that the kids growing up today have a show like Bluey that shows them what a supportive and healthy family looks like.
Bob The Builder
This is one I'm starting to get back into, but I really love it hehe… I think the thing I love about it the most is the fact that each of the construction vehicles look like you could pick them up and play with them, and everything in their world is built like it was crafted by a kid! I also think Pilchard and Dizzy are adorable!!!
Pikwik Pack
Another show that I feel is highly underrated is Pikwik Pack! Through land, sea, and air, this crew of critters will make sure that any package gets delivered! I adore the visuals and artwork in this show- simple, yet so memorable and inspiring. It's pretty formulaic, so if it's perfect for when I want something reliable to watch.

Kill. Murder. Rape. Suicide. Pedophile. Nazi. Hitler. Covid. Dead. Death.
When's the last time you watched a YouTube video or a TikTok video where some or even all of these words were censored, either by being bleeped out like what used to be reserved solely for swear words, or having sound-alike stand-ins (sewer slide, PDF File) or euphemisms (unalive)?
I'm not sure exactly where "unalive" came from, but I want to say it was in a similar batch of Roblox screencaps of children trying to creatively get past wordfilters by telling people to "go commit die." And I guess Fortnite played a role as well. Apparently "game-end" is attributed to a short film covered by Pyrocynical which was made to be family friendly, but I swear I have this memory of official Epic Games promo material using the term and I don't know if this real or not. I don't play Fortnite and I never will, so this was not considered important enough to really properly commit it to memory.
EDIT: It came from a Spider-man cartoon where Deadpool used it in an incredibly in-character way. Thanks, Guy I'm Going to Reference Later in this Post.
It's an incredibly childish word. It seems like it was one that used to be used ironically until TikTok, being owned by a Chinese company where censorship laws are much stricter than here in the U.S., decided that words like "dead" and "death" and even "hole" were too dangerous of something, causing users to start getting creative and adapting these absurd euphemisms and they became so popular that people started using it who weren't even using it as a cheeky way to get around these word filters, on other sites that didn't have these same restrictions.
YouTubers can say the word "death" and "die" and (usually) don't have to worry about demonitization. The self-censoring that I remember starting on this very website, done as a way to either prevent posts being found through search or possibly offending the most sensitive of followers, is now being used by users to get around the restrictions set by giant faceless corporations to protect The Children, whose parents are giving them unrestricted access to the internet at younger and younger ages. I watched a video from an adult YouTuber crying about Newgrounds-style animations that were on YouTube about My Little Pony and about how traumatized he was by these, while also insisting he had good parents.
Good parents would not have let you have unrestricted access to 2012 YouTube unsupervised at age seven. I'm sorry. I'm sorry I gotta be the one to tell you this. I'm sure your parents are very nice people, but they could have easily used the internet to find out what kind of stuff was available on the internet. That was an oversight.
I was an adult on the internet in 2012. If I saw a parent just sit their toddler in front of YouTube, I would have asked them what the hell was wrong with them. Now, I see my cousin's children with their iPads watching videos of a faceless person playing with Paw Patrol figures, and I feel uneasy, but a little more hesitant to say something since my cousin seems well aware of the kind of place the internet is, and is always nearby when his kids are watching things. The internet was a constant presence for me in middle and high school, in the late 90's to early 2000's, and I saw some shit I should not have seen. But the trade-off was that I had a space where I could express myself openly, a place my mom didn't care about and wouldn't see. I clicked things I know I shouldn't have because I was a dumb, curious kid, and my mom was happy to not have to deal with me and have me be quiet, I guess. And my cousin is only a year older than I am, so I imagine our experiences on the early internet weren't that much different, considering he's also a bit of a nerd.
So this YouTuber aims his ire at the animators, who were making animations for other adult fans of the show (which he acknowledges), for daring to make edgy content of something made for children, holding up this children's media as a sort of sacred cow. For comparison, in middle and high school I was watching crude animations of frogs in blenders, stick figures bashing each other's heads into walls, and torture simulators featuring anyone from Pikachu and Elmo to Osama bin Laden. But because kids like him, kids brought up in the age of web 2.0, found these videos and watched them before their age had hit double-digits, those videos got lots of views from other children. And from that, we got Elsagate and Finger Family, videos that are still around but have mutated from featuring Elsa and Spider-man to now featuring Huggy Wuggy from Poppy's Playtime, or Pomni from The Amazing Digital Circus or Bluey from, uh, Bluey. These aren't edgy animations made for and by teenagers and young adults for a laugh, they're videos presumably made by teams of adults to mass produce and fill with as much shocking, click-baity content that doesn't even require being able to understand English to understand the plot, all to get watch-time to make money. There's no artistic merit to it. It's neither satire, nor is it an earnest expression of love for the source material, the latter of which, whether you like it or not, is where most rule 34 falls. No, these videos have only ever been content slop since this started around 2016. And this shit is still happening.
That same YouTuber has made a video about how we need to stop saying "unalive," which is part of what inspired me to post this at all, and I can't help but feel like this dude takes himself way too goddamn seriously, frowning upon "commit toaster bath" and "late term fetus deletus," which my edgelord, former 4channer millennial brain finds funny (it is too late for me, lads). This dude is in his early 20's and it's really interesting seeing someone discover pretty much things I've known since I was his age, but acting like they're these huge revelations. Like yeah, I've known about media influence on culture since I was in middle school, because of the internet, which was new and unrestricted by the Standards and Practices that shackled old media like radio and television. That used to be something that pretty much everybody on the internet was aware of; it's the reason why we came here in the first place. And you are right that giant corporations are censoring people, but also, the internet being corralled into a small handful of websites makes internet culture more homogenized and disposable. People can still meet life-long friends through the internet, but the sites where I first met some of my best friends are digital ghost towns, if they still exist at all, or they've become overrun with users infected by political brainworms that make them have incredibly strong opinions on a one-off promotional video done by Budweiser with a transgender TikTok influencer. You've got better luck making life-long friends through playing in the same Minecraft server together than you do being mutuals on Instagram or Twitter. And while Discord is the closest thing I've been able to find that replicates the feeling of both forum culture and chatrooms of the past, it's got its own set of problems unique to it. I can just say "Discord kitten" and most people who use Discord will know exactly what I mean.
Whoever decided to stop teaching kids about how to be safe online should probably be shot. Facebook made putting your whole-ass name and face and location on the internet not just normal, but people will find you suspicious if you choose not to do that. God, I fucking hate Facebook so much.
He's right, though, about the social contagion effect of language. This was a concern for me on this website a decade ago, but that was all social pressure. There was no corporate mandate cracking down on people, making them type "st*pid" to get around restrictions. That was all moral peacocking, baby. People did that shit to themselves.
Tumblr nowadays feels more sane, just because those of us left after the porn ban got a couple of years to grow up and chill out. But because of the porn ban, we can only really talk about the effects of it and complain, rather than be able to post our smut openly. Human sexuality expresses itself in some genuinely weird ways; I should know, and you should probably donate to Archive of Our Own to make sure there's a space where these things can be expressed without fear of censorship to protect The Children. But "unalive" is a symptom of a much larger problem, which is to sand off all the edges of the internet to make it marketable; the free market is more than happy to cater to the whims of the CCCP if they think it can make them more money. There's a lot of people in China, after all. The internet has more people on it but they're confined to much smaller spaces. Children don't have their own spaces online, and when they do, they're not as carefully moderated, instead opting for either overworked humans overseas, or dumb robots that just filter certain words and just become an obstacle to maneuver around to tell something to kill themselves with the creativity of someone who's at a sixth-grade reading level. People in their 20's are uncomfortable with nudity and sex scenes in films, perhaps under the assumption that it's always exploitation, that these scenes can't have artistic merit and are solely there to titillate, and given the sort of dumbing down of art thanks to Marvel and Disney, this seems like the only natural result when combined with the trauma of finding things online that you shouldn't have at way too young of an age. I do not like where this is going, and it's really saying something that those brought up in a sex-negative, American puritanical mindset only start paying attention when the censorship is affecting how we talk about death, something we have absolutely no problem with glorifying in our culture.
And if you're wondering why I wrote yet another long-ass essay bemoaning the slow death of internet culture and the Weenie Hut Jr's-fication of younger generations, well, it's because of this screenshot from 4chan.
Now if only they could bully out the tradcaths.

I want to preface any and all of this by first saying I love your art style so much. I think it's really quite ballsy and unique of you to take a game franchise so ingrained in Japanese humor and sensibilities as WarioWare and draw it with such a wacky western animation vibe. So I guess that brings me to my question!!! What are your biggest artistic influences? There's gotta be some cartoons in there man, I know there is. This is really weird to say but the way you draw Mona almost reminds me of Robot Jones? There's a character in it named Shannon who I think (coincidentally or not) has a lot of overlap with your Mona. Have you seen the show before? lol Love what you do, keep doing it, you're great, etc. etc.
LOL thank you!! I never really thought about the irony of that juxtaposition, but you're right; consider it a love letter from a Yank like myself. That being said, as quintessentially Japanese as Warioware's humor is, it's also not so different from the grossout humor of the cartoons airing across the pond at the time. While Warioware is more fixated on poop than Ren and Stimpy's boils and pus, we can all agree on one thing: MUCUS🇯🇵🤝🇺🇸
Which brings me, predictably, to my artistic inspirations. What's funny about being so public with my art is that not only do people armchair diagnose my influences a lot, but they're also right almost all of the time. (What can I say; I'm a one-trick pony.) Here are some of my favorite and most accurate diagnoses:
Looney Tunes (a big one; drawing like Chuck Jones was like my version of an anime phase as a kid)
Don Bluth (sadly, a big one; I hate that motherfucker but he sure did imprint on my art style in a way that I will never be able to reverse)
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (this one is obvious when you look at how I draw dr. crygor, but generally speaking Milton Knight is one of my biggest artistic inspirations. AOSTH was kind of rough around the edges due to the limiting circumstances, but IMO his magnum opus as far as kid's cartoons was the Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat, which has all the gorgeous derangement of the sonic cartoon with none of the shortcuts)
Cow and Chicken: This comparison is dear to me because I never would have listed David Feiss as one of my primary inspirations but he literally is. In fact out of everything on this list he's probably the closest DNA match to my cartoons, right down to my fixation on drawing giant teeth. I can't run away from my demons
Dr. Seuss: This one i thought was weird because he is actually one of my biggest artistic inspirations but I didn't think it was obvious. But the funny part is that whenever I try to draw architecture he immediately takes over my brain
90s cartoons in general: predictable, but i'll list off some that people have identified in my brain/are extremely prominent in there. CatDog, Johnny Bravo, Ren and Stimpy (obligatory "go to hell John K"), and unfortunately Animaniacs, but I like to pretend that's not the case. I bristle when people act like the 90s is the golden age of cartoons because I want to come to the defense of the other generations but they're also kind of right. Never again will we enjoy the beautiful grotesquery of Klasky-Csupo
Not something people have noticed unprompted, but a special shoutout to my actual biggest artistic inspiration and the one that should be first on this list: Jim Henson, and all of his crew. Not only are their puppets and designs ingenious and electrifying visually, but the sincerity and humor that shines through in all his creations elevates them above all else on this list. Due in no small part to the many other geniuses working alongside him; Henson was notoriously gracious to his colleagues, and the creative freedom and equal collaboration on his shows is what makes them so unique and so genuine. I've often said that my enjoyment of a piece of media directly correlates with how much fun the people making it are having, and that couldn't be truer here. I can only dream of creating something as big-hearted and grandiose as the Muppets and their ilk.
Finally, HOLY FUCKING BALLS. Robot jones was huge on my brain growing up as a strange individual, but I somehow never made the connection with her and Shannon. But you're right, from the first time i drew her, she kind of slowly animorphed even more into that shape. You could honestly go even further and say that my characterization of Orbulon and Mona's friendship is like if Jones and Shannon were normal about each other. Wow! What a world!
#a lot of people get upset when people compare their art to shit but i honestly love it. Psychoanalyze me amadeus!#not art

i love you so fucking much like a 3-4/10 : just doesnt read as a glass animals album its like yeah if you gave this from a generic soft pop band yeah bam like a fucking 7 or some shit but this is HTBAHB Glass Animals. ZABA DUDE DO NOT FORGET ZABA!!!
painfully generic? Too poppy this time in an uninteresting way. personally i see no complete cohesive idea/theme/vibe tying everything together (yeah i know love and heartache but it does not show through with the track cohesion)the songs are so disjointed its genuinely a detriment. (filler tracks exist for a reason dumbshits)
-show pony: do dont like the chorus, too sharp? the audio is sharp and does not sound too nice, the sharp guitar though is acceptable, rhyming is ... interesting, leaves the song droning over and over, trying to drill the chorus in your head. i dont understand what its trying to set up. guitar compression is probably the best thing
-whathehellishappening : mild whiplash transition between songs but i get it,its kinda funny, again pretty unassuming each bridge/verse sounds too similar to differentiate them, again plain and unobtrusive, catchy chorus hmmm i wonder why, ends funny but i wont get why you wouldnt lead into a break track
-creatures in heaven : a little more interesting pacing wise, more personable, snappy?, again chorus is pretty prominent to a more notable amount, interest break with the space elements, wait why are there space elements, is this supposed to bright the dichotomy of heaven and earth
-wonderful nothing : start with the title oh fun, wait why are all of these songs starting with their title,i like the vocals more becuase they dont force themselves into higher notes where you can hear the strain, the beginning into the main song is funky and probably the best beat tbh,idk bdsm kink shit i like, nice layering i enjoy as the song goes but couldve been shortened, repeats a bit too much.
-a tear in space : To be honest i was so excited by this beginning riff that i wanted Wonderful Nothing to somehow lead into, these songs are so disjointed it feels like im being shoved around with no direction with how to process what im being told, rhyme dog with floor, look man i like it because of the constant variety of vocal style, BUT dude the auto tune fucking sucks and is really jarring, again catchy chorus lyrics cmon guys an album ISNT supposed to be 10 signles lumped together you NEED glue the velcro or at least something, i really like the violin/synth i just really like how light it is
i cant make you fall in love again : guitars fine WAIT THE TITLE AGAIN? jeeeeeez dudes, jumps in pretty fast with trying to hook in the chorus, does he always sing with the chorus staying at the same note. really unobtrusive lyrics wise, i enjoy his sultrier voice but at least he doesnt try to strain himself too bad but its noticable again, bland
how i learned to love the bomb : THIS IS SEX BOMBOMB AND W- sorry, this one and the previous track blend together with the droning beats and singing. the chorus is nice with this one, i like the guitar but i swear i will not remember what makes these two different. at least its not saying its title every three seconds. reminds me of that 2016 era of popi just see nothing interesting in here
-white roses : TITLE STARTS WOOOOO, it just STARTS but not excitingly! Repeating repeating repeat the drill is here and its staying!!!! Space again, wait what why? who knows. just doesnt keep my attention with the lyrics or vocal inflections(except the auto tune which makes me physically recoil like where did this come from), chorus is fine, reapeating repeating repeating and CATCHY!!! COME ON GUYS LISTEN TO THE RA DIO,
-on the run : beginning is actually interesting, i like the weird vocal beat pretty funky at least for this album, i like how he sings this beginning BUT the chorus makes me want to scream, how does this TRANSITION SO BAD? again DRONING BORING, rest of the song is okay? the chorus is the worst part and is jarring and detrimental, kinda like how the autotune in any other part of the album is. unobtrusive and radio material....hm....
lost in the ocean : i like the low key ukelele and singing, chorus is again pretty stripped but he just has more interesting inflections that lead the song forward. LOVE the background singing! the gradual growth of the song lends itself to something that BARELY resembles a glass animals songs, yes a slow and mournful one but its there. the hearts still there. Its just....still a little too obvious on the hey im a single yeah! swaying in the kitchen song, very simple and doowoppy. Cute! Bad ending to an album
Ranking : lost in the ocean 6/10 a tear in space 5/10 creature in heaven 5/10 wonderful nothings 5/10 -frankly i dont care how the rest fall. i wont listen to them willingly ever again-
OVERALL : dissapointing! Go listen to Dreamland (i think its a way better album than this. Get over ur hate boner on Heat Waves) or better yet! ZABA or HTBAHB!!!
#i needed to get this off my fucking chest#yes i did rant to TWO friends about this album before i wrote this but its still a heat of the moment 2 am post okay#i just dont like this album!#im sad really sad about this#glass animals#i love you so f***ing much#yes this is not proof read its a fucking tumblr post

You know what I loved the most about My Adventures With Superman? The fact that it's evidence that every serialized story has to be as dark and gritty as burnt toast.
Yeah, sure, it has it's dark moments.
Like when Lois [CENSORED FOR SPOILERS] Clark because he's Superman.
Or when Jimmy got himself [CENSORED FOR SPOILERS] all alone.
Or when the General and Amanda Waller [CENSORED FOR SPOILERS] together near the end of the season.
But it's still a really lighthearted show most of the time. Meanwhile, most serialized shows get darker and darker to the point where you need f*cking night-vision goggles to actually watch the damn thing.
And despite how many shows go down the tubes because of this style of depressing storytelling--Friendship Is Magic, Star Vs, Steven Universe, Miraculous Ladybug, Voltron: that one Loonatics show that's become nothing but a joke to everyone including Warner Bros themselves--despite ALL THAT, people still insist that making shows dark and gritty through serialization is a good idea. And by "people", I mean:
A. Insecure man-children who want to convince you that watching a kid's show about magical ponies makes them smarter or more mature than average.
Or B. Creative hacks in showbiz who want to pander the aforementioned man-children because that's always easier than actually writing a story.
But if all of those shows are evidence as to why making shows too dark is a bad idea, My Adventures With Superman is evidence that having a balance, or even arguably a majority of lightheartedness, is a winning strategy.
anon I prommy it's okay. I, the OP, can tag this post as spoilers. You don't need to censor yourself here bud
2. not to go all animation major on this post but I think that in terms of 'grittiness' in cartoons within the last decade, it's kind of important to think about how media affects our views of the world and how, in turn, world events affect media.
To put it lightly, the last decade has fucking SUCKED. The 2016 presidential election, the sudden shift on social media to give platforms to racists, misogynists, and homophobes, the rise of neo-nazis. Not to mention a global pandemic and multiple major crises around the world. Children these days are VASTLY different to how children were when I (and maybe even you, anon) were that age. They have social media now where they're exposed to the worst of the world at a near-constant basis. It's traumatizing.
Cartoons have always been about giving kids a reflection of themselves. The world is darker and kids are developing mental illnesses and trauma, so the media they watch reflects that.
I also think that it isn't particularly fair to the shows you have listed here to say that they have 'depressing' storytelling and implying the only people who like those sorts of shows are man-children or hacks. I like those shows and I'm neither of the above. It's also unfair to completely reduce those shows to being gritty when.... they really aren't? Not any more than My Adventures with Superman is, really. My Little Pony is especially mostly lighthearted adventures about love and friendship. Miraculous' more serious moments are, at best, a B-plot as far as I'm aware and are only really discussed majorly in fanon spaces. Star Vs was SO much fucking around randomly that I got bored of the show after a while. The only real outlier here that I can comment on (I haven't and will not watch Voltron) is Steven Universe, but when talking about it's core messaging, it's important to remember Rebecca Sugar's identity as a queer Jewish person, and how that affects it's themes of love and oppression.
MAWSM's 'lightheartedness' also comes from an extremely long-lasting era of gritty superhero stories in general (thanks alan moore and also that one guy who called the dc hotline like 40 times because he fucking hated jason todd). It's intentionally supposed to be majorly lighthearted because darker stories is the only (and in my opinion, incorrect) way that Superman has been allowed to be presented within the last few decades.
I think that, perhaps dear anon, what you really are looking for is more diversity in content. And that's fair! But there are plenty of shows that don't (as far as I'm aware) focus too heavily on heavy themes, but the truth is, mawsm does. There are lots of heavy themes of imperialism, identity, diaspora, and trauma all within the first season of the show.
Not particularly sure where I was going with this. Sorry for replying with a full essay.
#also sometimes dark and gritty is what people need. just bc it isnt for you doesnt mean that its an invalid form of storytelling.#you made the mistake of saying this to an animation major lmao#long post

Record collecting is an expensive hobby but it also honestly brings me so much joy. There’s still so much I want to buy and will buy (tbh) but I keep going to record sales and not remembering what I own and almost buying doubles of the same album, so that’s why this list exists. But I also saw folks publishing their lists earlier and I love seeing what people have in their collections (truly I’d love to see yours if you wanted to post it!) Old Art Archive Part 4.
Original captions under the cut.
First Three:
Title: Yeah this doesn't look the greatest. Tried to animate this a bit, didn't turn out great but didn't want to throw the hours of working on it away so here it is anyway. Need to draw this guy more...
Title: Nya Sticker. Lil Sticker/Pagedoll of Nya.
Title: Nameless the Persona. I have had a bunch of sonas before but always end up losing connection to them and making them ocs. He isn't so appealing as a character design like my previous sonas but feels alot more like me.Also its a more simple design so I can just doodle it easily. Might make the sketchy style I used here be a part of Nameless's design as he is meant to be a stickfigure ish thing.
Next Two:
Title: Bunny guy and Dog guy. Got of a bunch of old characters that I stopped using [or just never uploaded in the first place] because I just keep making alot of species that were just like cats but or so forth but I'm now merging alot of those into one species of [sometimes] vaguely animal guys. Magical girl Mascot type [sometimes] vaguely animal guys. Though they able to change forms so are not always little animal guys [Human, Anthro, Standard like above etc, which is just because I like making shapeshifting/form changing characters] and their species name is just Magiese [literally just Magical in Afrikaans]. This particular Magiese is Peribit [Peridot + Rabbit because I like explaining things and puns] and is a close friend of Nya. Another Magiese, this one is Woofberry [Pun on Wolfberries which are a real thing, though they are themed after Blueberries Design wise] and is a close friend of Nya.
Geode/Pink Gem Cat:
Old oc I made when I was 13/14, missed her alot so trying to redesign her a bit, took elements from her most recent design before this and a much older one. Like how its coming along so far but might change it a bit. Her old name is Gemey, probably would go for Geode? as a new name.... with Gemey as a nickname. Might do more of this where I show redesigns with their old designs. Old art in the back are vectors, which is what I did solely for the first few years of me doing digital art, I don't do them much anymore. Been drawing drawing digitally since like only 2020, which I if I remember correctly was because my old laptop broke and then the new pc I got couldn't handle my vectoring program after a while. [and well now I'm out of practice and like how I draw stuff from scratch now rather than reusing assets] but I do miss using them for stuff like character references/concepts or simple gifs cause they made that alot easier. or just even one off non-reused vectors. Also miss how I actually drew hands [shit looking hands but still] regularly, or how I drew more varied facial expressions. Maybe I should get more back into vectors just for the sake of making art more interesting? varied? idk for me.
Art Dump 1:
1. Title: Just a pony
I think this is my fourth ponysona? [fifth if I count a pride ponysona I made], modeled them after Nameless so that it hopefully prevent me from turning him into an oc lol. Alicorn cause my original ponysona was one, he can be the Princess of just being a some guy.
Oh and also my mental and physical heath is still not the greatest right now but better than last time I posted..
2. Title: Edgy cat 2 electric boogaloo idk man
Yeah, redesigned the Nya recolour design from earlier today. Though did keep them looking a bit like Nya cause I want them to be one of Nya's cousins. Though not sure what their theme should be, most of Nya's family have food themed designs so maybe licorice? red velvet? idk
3. Title: Edgy cat
Mental and Physical heath hasn't been doing so great [as well as just starting uni which is exciting but also very stressful] and I have no clue when I may start feeling better so will probs post a bit of rough doodly stuff. Originally was meant to be Nya but with edgy colours but now I want to make them their own character [though change their design at least a bit to not just be a nya recolour]
Put some hearts in bg cause its valentines day
4. Title: Anything looks cool in front of an explosion right?
Like drawing Nya just chilling but want to draw more lore-y related stuff of them so here is them using their main spell that causes a very hot sparkly explosion. Probably would call the spell like Glittering Sunblaze or something.
Rest of Post:
Title: Alien cat? Alien cat. Old character I haven't drawn in years that I have been wanting to redesign, they still have that cool eye on their chest its just under the bow now. [Original/Last drawing of them is what's in the top left corner.
Title: Three for the price of one. Thought I should be doing these old ocs redesigns in batches of three or five or more instead of individually. Though that would just mean I wouldn't upload this as often because redesigning multiple characters at the same time takes longer obvs. Old art/designs shown on the sides because I like comparing how they look now vs. how they used to look. Kara and Bery are sibs, going to do their other siblings and some friends of theirs next. Zephyr is Kara's and Geode's [might change that name] Wife.
Title: It's a me! Yo! Sorry for the bit of a upload drought. Been very busy with uni plus a big [big for me at least] project that I hopefully will have done at the most in the next two weeks. This may or may not appear in said project :] Also new username! Casanova-mew -> NamelessMewMew.
Not feeling bad, just feeling weird. I don’t know why but when I feel weird I like drawing eyes.
Title: Chibi Robo Cat. Busy with uni, very tired, yada yada not drawing much lately so have a redesign of a very old character of mine. Used a different type of shading than usual [like how shiny it looks], plus a Chibi style [this character doesn’t have this proportions]. Also really like the bg makes me think of seeing lights at night without my glasses.
Title: [BRIGHT COLOURS] Glowing from within. Redesign of an unsold adopt, also more playing around with shiny/very bright shading. Might make some more ’experimental’ stuff like this.
Title: The Grim Baker. What do you do if you're a Grim Reaper but also have had a life long dream of opening a bakery? You open a bakery with spooky treats to get the spirits [and possibly other forms of the undead] that you are obligated to guide to afterlife to come to you of course! Finished up a week old wip, I'm on a roll I guess [probably won't last long] Originally the ribbons were not going to be transparent but didn't want what I drew under it to go to waste, it actually makes it look more ghostly. Also its jam not blood on their scythe :], as they have separate scythes for baking and you know Grim Reaping.
Title: Lil vector thing in csp. Testing out csp's trial [used a vector tool for this] it seems pretty cool [the comic making tools, its animation tools and a endless amount of user made brushes are very tempting and more robust than what can be done with sai] but has a much more of a steep learning curve than paint tool sai, especially with its interface, which is alot more complicated than paint tool sai's. Hopefully will be able to pick it up when it goes on sale late this year like it usually does.
Title: The sunset's looking for its cat. Fooling around more with csp, originally this had full vector lineart but despite how rough this looks it looks alot better without it. Don't feel like making multi day stuff stuff right now/ Maybe I need to make experimental not so great stuff for a while idk. Maybe also use csp's 3d models and such to practice anatomy stuff as I keep trying to but just end getting to overwhelmed with how much their is to learn I always end up stopping so maybe just looking and models and mapping out shapes and such myself might work [and maybe post them as batches of doodles/rough stuff if said 3d model resource creator is cool with it]

Rambles abt g5 bc I have brainrot
-I rlly like that Pipp is shorter than the rest of the cast, I think it’s rlly neat
-Opaline is such a fun camp villain and I love her, sure she doesn’t have as much depth as other villains but she’s so entertaining and fun and what more can I ask for? Don’t understand why ppl hate her so much (I don’t even think her design is that bad, it’s neat imo)
-I will say her treatment of Misty is a little too real for me, that manipulation hurts man
-It rlly sucks that g5 brushables are so bad because compared to all the other brushables even not as well liked ones like g3.5 and g4.5 they don’t rlly have any charm, which sucks bc I’d love to get some merch of g5 but the brushables just aren’t very good
-The reason Twilight doesn’t look good in g5 is because it IS accurate to g4, and twilight’s design wasn’t made for 3d, the eyebrows being black are good for the style of g4 but in g5 they clash, and she just doesn’t work that well in the g5 style
-Izzy and Sunny are so gay like it’s overt it’s not even funny, I genuinely will not be surprised if they end up together eventually (even if it’s covert like appledash at the end of g4)
-Also Zipp is so overtly trans-coded like again, it’s not even funny, wouldn’t be surprised if they had an episode discussing gender identity especially it’s getting more acceptable to show nonbinary and trans characters in animation (Take Frankie from monster high g3 being nonbinary now)
-I genuinely like the addition of Zipp being all detective like, it’s a fun addition to her character especially since she didn’t have too much screen time in the movie, it also separates her from rainbow dash a lot more
-Hitch being a single Dragon Dad is fun, I love it I just wish they kept more of his traits from the movie, it still seems they’re struggling to write him a bit, it’s getting better tho
-Characters in order faves are:
Sunny
Misty
Zipp
Izzy
Pipp
Hitch
Opaline
Love all the characters but I just like some slightly more
-Love that posey is still a bitch, like yeah she might not be racist anymore but she’s still the worst, it’s great
-Queen haven is neat as always! Don’t like her still referring to Zipp by her full name, since Zipp told her not too, but it’s only a few times so It’s not too bad
-Jazz and the other pony who works at the salon are very neat additions, I like that they’re recurring characters
-I really wish they used more of Sprout, he’s just a background character now and I feel like for such an important part of the movie he should’ve had more stuff
-Same with characters like alphabittle and Phyllis, esp alphabittle like show him again, the two only make small appearances in tyt and I want more
-I really like how a lot of the mane 5 have like, jobs, and shit, it’s neat idk
-I also love that they all live together it’s very cute
-I really like how they’re establishing every character’s insecurities it’s neat and can lead to a lot of good episodes
-I genuinely don’t like how they released all 8 episodes at once, bingeing a series isn’t as fun as watching them weekly plus it gives more time for discussion and stuff
-I really want more episodes
Yeah that’s all I think

of horsefairs and maidens. part 2
nikolai lantsov x reader
link to part 1
summary: The moonless, warm summer night has stretched itself across Caryeva and the duke’s estate where a grand dinner is held in the gardens, in honour of both the horse fair and the princes’ visitation. Nikolai has found himself sat across the table from his brother and both the girl with the broken horse and her father, restrained to only occasional glances and the agitation that simmers beneath his skin, amplifying every time he catches her eyes. It’s all he can do to remain in his seat, even as they leave for the evening at Razumov’s, even as the night drags on - at least until the late hours of the night, too late for sensible decisions.
Nikolai smirked at her, as if to alleviate the seriousness of her warning, "Do you take me for anything less than a gentleman? And here I was thinking I had you charmed Irina, you break my heart. We were just talking."
But Irina didn't look concerned, only amusement lined her features as she sipped her drink, and a bit of motherly sympathy, "Oh my dear prince, you have us all smitten, but it's not her I'm worried about.", she twisted in her seat, to call for a waiter, and said over her shoulder, "And hasn't your mother taught you - nothing's quite as dangerous as talking to a girl like her."
word count: 2.9k
warnings: mentions of alcohol
A/N: well, apparently, this will not be a two parter... i’d claim i was shocked if i wasn’t used to myself going overboard the moment i get hooked on writing the characters ._. i’ve got part 3 down on the paper already (or a word document, but paper sounds more romantic) and it’s 100% focused on their interaction. in this one i really wanted to focus on building up the tension so there’s a lot of Nikolai’s thoughts and frustrations in here, glances cast and warnings given, the whole shebang i really hope you like it, even if it’s kinda lacking in direct interaction for the sake of angst, and once again i want to thank everyone who commented and was so sweet and kind i had no other choice than to rush back excitedly and write my heart out <3 you’re the best!
The dinner was an intricate display of wealth, as grand and carefully arranged as the jewels of a vain woman. One without an ounce of style anyway. The long tables were laden with complicated food, even the ones away from the main table that was orbited by the wealthy, to show off the generosity of the host. He'd even heard his brother say, as a compliment no less, that it seemed even the dogs here ate well. Clearly, he'd wanted to say, since you're here with your plate filled to the brim, brother.
Now the porcelain plate sat before him, the food half-eaten and the glass of finest red wine all finished, as he listened to the war stories offered up to him by an old man with a hefty silver-streaked beard and heftier rosy cheeks, coloured by what must have been a fourth glass of wine. Nikolai would pop into the conversation here and there, if only to show he was paying attention, though he knew well enough that people never really wanted to listen, only to be heard.
"Tell me about your daughter - Alyona, is it?"
The man reeled for a moment, his moustache shifting as he tried to remain dignified while choking on a sip of wine, as dignified as a startled walrus anyway. "You know of my daughter, your highness? Irina--", he turned to his wife at this, near breathless, "Did you hear that? He asked about Alyona!"
The old lady had the common sense not to egg him on too much, only smile and nod as if she knew matching his excitement would mean a definitive death by boredom for Nikolai. And he was thankful for that.
But to be fair, Nikolai hadn't really known of Alyona, only heard her name from the girl with the broken horse when she passed by him in between meal courses, stopping only to cast a glance towards the old general and say, "Ask him about his daughter, Alyona - Saints forbid you ever require it, but he'll raise an entire army for you just for that little bit of kindness. He's very fond of her."
"Is she pretty?", he didn't want to seem like a liar if that was what he complimented the daughter on instead of her smarts, or talent for music.
The girl had raised an eyebrow, then looked back at him, "Does it matter? Fathers like him always think their girls are the prettiest. They're not wrong."
He'd wanted to stop her then, to ask her about the general's wife, or his dog, or anything really - and it would've been as easy as reaching out to take her wrist in his hand, had she not slipped back into the crowd and disappeared as quickly as she'd appeared by his side.
Now he took his glass of wine, filled once again by one of the waiters, and held that instead, his eyes wandering across the table to where his brother sat, red-cheeked and rowdy. She was sat next to him, straight-backed and so still Nikolai thought she might have been a vision or a sculpture wrought in alabaster had the light evening wind not stirred the sheer silk of her gown and made it all come alive. It fell in rich waves off her shoulders, plentiful, but not plentiful enough to hide the gentle slope of her neck where it dipped to her chest, interrupted only by a fine necklace of tiny emeralds, or the wrists that glided through the motions as she picked at the food.
The wine had made him too unwilling to look away, and he'd nearly caught his brother's eyes over the rim of his glass, so now he had to drag his gaze back to the general, who was near breathless talking about Alyona's adventures with the pony he bought for her.
"...and I told Irina, no man of sound mind would let his little girl on that beast."
The beast being a pony, Nikolai supposed.
"Did you think she would just pet it? It's not a cat.", this was the wife, sounding tired in a way only a woman who'd heard this story a million times and still thought it stupid, could.
"You should've at least let me call Orlov's girl, I swear that creature was born on the damn horse! That form! We could've used her in the cavalry!"
"That poor thing's got enough on her mind with a father like that, and for Saint's sake stop recruiting people at dinner parties."
This time Nikolai interrupted, however riveting this exchange was, "The Orlov's girl?"
Irina cast him a surprised glance, "Yes, that pretty thing with your highness' brother? I thought you met her."
Now Nikolai had an actual excuse to look her away, and he wasn't about to throw it away. This time, she had her hands folded in her lap and Vasily at her ear speaking something delightfully stupid, no doubt. Nikolai watched her drag her teeth across her lower lip, still so mesmerized by the way it popped back into place that he was near startled when her eyes slipped straight to him.
She did not smile. But maybe that was for the better because even from across the table he could see the muscles in her cheek twitch, as if she was dragging the corners of her lips down with the sheer force of will, not quite as restrained as she'd hoped to be. He realised she was trying not to smile, and somehow that made his mind reel more than any unbridled grin a girl at this table could've offered him. She downcast her eyes, lashes brushing against her cheek as she busied herself with the bracelet on her wrist, and Nikolai sipped his wine to drive away the urge to keep staring, to keep trying to provoke her until she could not hold that smirk back.
But then Vasily brushed the stray lock of her hair back and her features stilled as if all that pertness had been drained from them instantly, a muscle played in her jaw before she lifted her eyes and smiled prettily. Not at Nikolai, though. He saw an older man sitting to her left tap her hand like one would when a dog's performed a trick well, and Nikolai felt his muscles tense. Vasily beamed, Nikolai gripped his glass, her father looked at her like she was his golden ticket.
"A vile man.", Irina said over her glass.
Nikolai hadn't noticed, but the general was now busy entertaining the waiter with questions about the wine, and only his wife was fully present, the lines of her face arranged into a look of dignified distaste. She was speaking to Nikolai.
"Count Orlov?"
"He treats that poor girl like property.", her upper lip curled, "And unfortunately the Saints haven't given her a bad temper, so she listens."
Nikolai leaned back in his chair, swirling the wine as he followed Irina's gaze to his brother, drunk on wine and forced smiles from a pretty girl, "I don't think she's as helpless as you paint it."
"Oh, she's not. She's playing them both like a fiddle. I'm just saying, at her age, I would've wreaked havoc by that point.", she shrugged, "I'm not a subtle woman, you see."
"Ha!", the general was joining the conversation once again, now that he'd gotten his wine, "Listen to what she tells you! She's a wild animal, that one!"
"Darling. Not in front of a prince."
"What?", to his credit, he did look genuinely confused, "His highness doesn't mind, do you? I'm just saying my wife's always been a force of nature, no shame in that! She's a scary woman, it's a good thing to have by your side."
Nikolai did not, indeed, mind at all. He was just trying not to choke on the wine as laughter bubbled up from his chest, especially when Irina raised an eyebrow at her husband, and he could see her attempting not to grin at that strange assemble of compliments. Their bickering was felt like a light summer breeze, a welcome reprieve from the tension he could feel simmering in the air, across the table.
"It's the wine.", she turned her gaze to Nikolai, still smirking, "Don't mind him."
"Ha! And what explanation do you have for that sharp tongue?"
"I married an idiot and was forced to evolve because of it."
"Please, when I first mustered up the courage to ask her for a dance--", this was directed at Nikolai as the large man shifted in his seat, "And mind you, I've been less afraid for my life on the battlefield than in front of that woman! You know what she told me? She told me to break a leg and see if that helps with my coordination.", he leaned to the side to cast his wife a look over Nikolai, "You've always had that sharp tongue on you, my love."
Nikolai raised an eyebrow at her, "Was he that bad?"
Beaming because he didn't immediately sympathise with her husband, Irina shrugged in feigned disdain, "No, he was quite handsome and good on the floor, still is. You just can't let them forget how lucky they are to even have you looking in their direction."
"What can I say, my girl knows her business! I fell for it, hook, line and sinker."
Nikolai was the one charmed, for once, but his eyes still strayed to the other side of the table, even as the old couple continued lovingly bickering beside him. Vasily was up and about, and the girl and her father were following close behind, the valet running around guiding them towards a carriage that was waiting on the other side of the fence.
"Where are they going?", he schooled his voice into one of mild disinterest, fit of a prince not particularly invested in his brother's dalliances. Beneath it all though, he felt dangerous, like he was being suspended on the edge of getting up and following - his brother was a nasty, distasteful creature on good days, and this wasn't even one of those.
"Mister Razumov's.", Irina answered, because the general was now waving wildly demanding another piece of those little lemon cakes, "New money. Wild parties. Wilder vices. Gambling and alcohol are galore. They'll come to invite you too."
He did not doubt that - even his brother's title had nothing on Nikolai's charm or the exclusivity of having him there on the rare occasion that he was home instead of on the front. It still did little to placate him as he watched them climb into the carriage, his brother's slimy hand holding hers as he helped up the steps, her hair tossed wildly across her bare back as she turned one last time to cast a glance Nikolai's way. He held her eyes for a moment, both their faces still as stone, then watched her disappear behind carriage's curtains as he sipped his wine, wondering wildly if he should even go.
What good would it do? Her father would be there, watching, and there was no money to be made with a prince that had an interest only in books and weapons, no matter how charming he was. He cleared his throat and finished the glass. He'd just get her in trouble - it wasn't like Nikolai himself was particularly known as a voice of reason, he preferred to stick to an assemble of charming qualities, like ill-advised impulses and regret.
"You could stay, you know?", this was Irina again, sounding less like a wild animal her husband had described, and more like a mother. At least what Nikolai imagined mothers sounded like. Sympathetic.
"Sorry?"
"Do you think I'll get this big boulder to move and go home anytime soon?", she nodded towards her husband, then smiled, "Some of us stay here instead of going to Razumov's, there's music and food and wine, good company too. If your highness hasn't been scared away by our marital displays."
"Please, call me Nikolai.", his usual glib smirk had slipped back onto his lips, as easy as a mask, "And no, I must admit, I'm quite charmed by the displays. Tell me, Irina, where does one get one of those?"
She didn't look quite convinced, but she smiled still, "You stumble upon it, by Saint's will, and then you can't look away. The lucky ones, anyway.", she cleared her throat, "Stay, it would be quite the honour."
"All mine. Your husband's a great general. And the royalty never gets enough servings from sharp tongues anyway."
"My husband's a fool.”, she shrugged lightly, “But I make up for it in the charms department."
"I heard that woman!", there was no ire in general’s voice, and it was merely a passing comment as he waved at the poor waiter again, "Would one of you penguins like to explain why the prince's glass is empty?"
Nikolai hadn't wondered about that, but now that it was brought up he felt like another glass and a distinct lack of his brother might be of help, "Why do you assume I won't go?"
"Because you've been staring at that girl all night."
Nikolai's head snapped from the waiter back to Irina, and he caught the traces of a grin in the corners of her lips as she sipped her wine. Had he been that obvious? He didn't think so, but the wine and conversation might have made him sloppy - it was one thing to avoid provoking Vasily into being even creepier due to jealousy, another to avoid someone like Irina.
"Don't be so shocked young prince, that big buffoon used to look at me like that, once. I'd spot it anywhere, like a good game in the forest. She could barely stop smirking. It's quite painful, you know, not to smile when you catch someone looking at you like that. I must admit, she’s quite adept."
Nikolai considered telling her that big buffoon certainly still did look at her like that, but he was assuming she already knew that. She didn't look like a woman who'd settle for anything less. "Well, to be fair, I've been told I am quite dashing. She can't really be blamed."
This made her laugh, in the way experienced older people do when they're charmed by some youngling's naivete, "Tell her that and see what comes back at you."
"I've already tried, it wasn't pretty."
Irina leaned in, conspirational, "That's why it's fun. My husband told you already. Hook, line and sinker. The girl knows how it's done.", then she leaned back, more serious, "It's why I'd stay away if I were you. We have plenty of food, wine and girls for you here. You're all the rage."
***
The night dragged on, or perhaps dragged wasn't exactly the right word. The general had a way of livening up the place even as the people cleared, some to go to Razumov's, others to go to sleep in their beds. The brave ones that stayed - and there were quite a few after he did some rounds about the tables - were unable to leave because he'd managed to somehow get more food, more alcohol and more musicians, and no one of sound mind would leave this wild story he'd spun around them. They laughed and spoke of war and danced under the clear night sky, the air tinted with the scent of burning wood and meat and laughter.
Nikolai had nearly forgotten, how much heart there was in nights like these, how much he loved the people and the songs and this country. He himself had danced and laughed and drank, and was now sitting on a chair rocking himself precariously on two of its legs, wrapped in that safety blanket of stupor that came with late hours of the night, or early hours of the morning, watching the general and his wife swirl in front of the musicians.
He wondered how they were still up and going, much less dancing, though he could guess that alcohol, and a lot of it, had something to do with it. And alcohol, and a lot of it, had something to do with no one noticing a figure sitting upright on a horse somewhere out behind the fence, in the deep darkness of a moonless night. The silks shifted around the figure, carried by the breeze, like something out of Tolya's stories of spectres and hallucinations haunting the fallen battlefields. Nikolai thought wildly that there must be one about a ghost-girl on a horse, haunting the minds of men in moonless nights, with silks made out of moonlight and cruel elegance draped across her shoulders. Or something like that.
Nikolai let his chair hit the ground and was up before the girl who'd been talking to him had even managed to look confused by his sudden change in mien. He drained his glass before putting it down on the table with a bit too much force and slid through the crowd that had gathered by the band.
Tolya’s story would have probably been meant as a warning to young men not to head towards those strange apparitions, or something equally ominous, but Nikolai never put much stock in the stories anyway, especially not ones made up by his drunken mind as he followed after her into the darkness. She looked improbable, sitting tall on that horse waiting for him, but not impossible. And that was good enough for him.

Tag Game
I was tagged by @sassyandclassy94 - thank you so much! :) Sorry I only just now got to this; I was procrastinating because I was sucked into replaying Divinity 2 for the 4th or 5th time :’)
Favorite color: PINK - I used to pretend I didn’t like it but nah, man, its my fav color. That, and light orange. But just to stress that it’s pink:
Yeah :’)
Last song: I couldn’t remember so I checked my Youtube history and
I was proving a point to my sister...
Currently reading: "Six Crimson Cranes” by Elizabeth Lim. I loved her Spin the Dawn books, and this one is not disappointing! I love how it is told in a manner where you can see the story being told as a myth in the future for her characters’ universe.
Last movie/tv show: My Little Pony: FIM. I was anxious last night and listen. The animation style. The line art. Superb.
Sweet/Savory/Spicy: I like all three and it depends on my mood, but I usually crave something sweet if I am craving any of those three.
Currently working on: Changelings is my current WIP, but I’ve not worked on it for a couple of months because honestly... I realized I didn’t like the path my characters were going on/it was going to be spaced out into two books, but I realized this once I got to over 200 pages. I am procrastinating going back to edit chapters and adding scenes to space out the plot and flesh out my characters more.
Red's questions:
Does your car have a name? If so, what is it? Shaniqua. Think of American Dragon: Jack Long. Yeah, that Shaniqua :’)
What's the weirdest food in your fridge right now? I currently have 12 bags of shredded cheese in my fridge :V My mom saw a sale and she was worried about prices going up. But then she saw a sale later on and forgot about the bags we already had. Yeah :’)
If you could have any fictional character on your side in a zombie apocalypse, who would it be an why? Levi Ackerman from AoT. If he can defeat monstrous titans, he can defeat a ton of zombies. Also I am a messy packrat. He’d keep things clean.
Abby's questions:
If you could be any wild animal for a day, what one would it be and why? I’ll just be a water bear so I can vibe near volcanic vents.
If you could be granted ONE super power, what would it be? teleportation. Always. >:)
Which one would you prefer: have no nose but have really good smelling fingers or be blind but have a really nice smile? I need to be able to taste food and my teeth are degraded from a 12 yr struggle with an eating disorder so DEFINITELY the second >:D
Celo’s questions:
What is your dream job? Do you plan to accomplish it, and if so, how? :)
What is your favorite type of pet?
What is your favorite video game? :)
Tag: @sparklyawkwardpenguin @manda-kat annnnd @thathilomgirl if y’all want to try it out :) Feel free to try it even if I haven’t tagged you, btw! :)

fun day with uncles//Luke&Lily special feat Ashton and Calum
a/n: I want to expand on the relationships the girls have with their uncles (and soon Oliver and Michael) so I hope you enjoy!
word count: 2.1 k
warnings: none, just fun and fluff with our girls and Cashton :)
Luke&Lily Masterlist
Enjoy!
***
You and Luke were going to the doctor’s office for Oliver’s routine check-ups and Calum and Ashton offered to take the girls out for a day. Lily and Posy were talking nonstop about it during breakfast asking where they were going and what they were going to do.
“Will Duke be with us?” Lily asks while you’re styling her hair in her room. Luke has Posy in her room getting her dressed and Oliver is in his swing sucking on his fingers.
“I don’t know, honey. I guess we’ll see when they come pick you up,” you kiss her head watching her pull on her socks.
That was the one request Ashton and Calum had for you and Luke; the girls had to wear shoes and socks. You had packed sunscreen, goldfish crackers, and some extra pull-ups for Posy in case she had an accident. She’s been doing really well going potty on the toilet but accidents happen. You packed an extra outfit and sweaters just in case and placed them in one of Luke’s backpacks.
You figured Ashton and Calum wouldn’t want to carry around the baby bag that you have.
“I ready! Let’s go!” Posy announces skidding to a stop in Lily’s doorway.
“Uncle Ash and Uncle Cal aren’t here yet, bug,” Luke laughs poking at her cheeks from behind.
The girls busied themselves with their toys as you and Luke made sure you had everything you needed for Oliver. Then there was a knock on the door followed by Petunia barking and the girls screaming in excitement running down the hall.
When it opens, Posy rushes to Ashton’s legs and Lily grabs hold of Calum’s hands pulling him inside the house.
“Hey, hey, let them get in the door,” Luke laughs entering the living room behind you.
Oliver woke up from the loud noises and you scooped him up into your arms, rocking him slightly until he calmed down.
“I want to be greeted like this everywhere I go,” Calum laughs, lifting Lily in his arms. “Are you ready for a day of fun, Lils?”
“Yes! Where are we going?” Lily asks.
“Up, up, up Unca Ash!” Posy is trying to climb her way up Ashton’s legs. He picks her up easily as well and pokes her nose.
“Hi little one,” he grins then turns to Lily. “It’s a surprise, but there’s rides, animals, and yummy food.”
You and Luke exchange a look. Rides?
“What kind of rides?” Luke asks, his eyes moving to Lily who’s always been the most cautious with certain things.
“A carousel and pony rides,” Calum eases.
“Ponies?” Lily’s eyes widened.
“Do not let them out of your sight,” Luke warns, lifting the backpack you packed and handing it to Ashton.
“We won’t. How long do you think you’ll be at the doctor’s?” Ashton asks. Calum moves forward towards you and gazes lovingly at Oliver.
“No idea. They’ll probably check his oxygen levels, weigh him, take some blood...a few hours at least,” you respond. “I packed extra clothes and some snacks for them.”
“We’ll be back before dinnertime,” Ashton informs. “You girls ready to go?”
“Bye mama! Bye Daddy!” Posy waves.
“Have fun and listen to your uncles, okay?” you tell them. “And hold their hands.”
“We will mama. Bye Olly!” Calum sets her back on the ground and she touches Oliver’s arm softly.
***
Ashton carries Posy along the grounds of where the circus is in town. There’s a train painted in bright colors with animals drawn all over it and clowns are walking around. Lily is holding onto Calum’s hand taking in all of the sights around her.
“Where should we go first?” Ashton asks, looking at the booths of face painting, jewelry, t-shirts, concessions, and games with colorful stuffed animals.
“Let’s just start on one end and work our way around,” Calum shrugs.
And so they did. First, they ordered a large lemonade that was shared amongst the four of them and looked at the animals. Lily and Posy wanted to feed them so Calum bought the food from a machine that usually holds pieces of gum. He took photos and videos of the girls laughing at the tickling sensation from the goats’ whiskers.
“Goats are pretty cute,” Ashton muses, scratching one on the head.
“No way are you going to get a goat,” Calum shakes his head.
“I want a goat!” Posy claps her hands.
“Ask your daddy that, little one,” Ashton giggles.
They wash their hands and look at the rest of the animals for a bit longer until Posy whispers something in Ashton’s ear.
“She needs to use the potty,” Ashton tells Calum with wide eyes.
“Oh, okay. Uhh…” Calum looks around but all he sees are portable ones. “Looks like those are our best option.”
“Those are disgusting,” Ashton crinkles his nose. “There has to be an actual bathroom somewhere. Let’s ask someone.”
Calum and Lily follow him to a worker and shockingly enough, there is an actual bathroom building but it’s way in the back.
“Can you hold it until we’re at the bathrooms, little one?” Ashton asks, already walking towards the back at a brisk pace. Calum and Lily follow.
They push through the crowds of people muttering their apologies. At long last, they’re in front of the building and thankfully see a door that’s labeled as ‘family’ restroom.
“Here we go,” Ashton says and Calum stops him.
“Do you even know what to do?”
“I’m not dumb, it can’t be that hard. Have some faith, man,” Ashton shakes his head and moves into the restroom.
Calum looks down at Lily who gives him a nervous smile.
“Do you think Uncle Ash will drop her in the toilet?” Calum asks and she giggles.
“I hope not. Dada always sings when she’s on the potty to help.”
Calum looks to the restroom door and approaches it. He knocks lightly.
“Occupied!”
“It’s me!” Calum shouts. “Lily says Luke sings to her to help her go.”
“Sings what?”
Calum looks down at Lily.
“Wheels on the bus.”
“Wheels on the bus!” Calum shouts.
“Got it! Thanks!”
Calum notices a bench against the wall and he pulls Lily onto his lap.
“You’re such a great big sister, you know that? You remind me of my big sister,” he says then realizes Mali hasn’t officially met the girls or Oliver.
“Who?”
“My big sister, Mali.”
“Mama showed me Mali! She sings pretty.”
“Yeah, she does,” Calum grins, “she’d love to meet you someday. I’ll see if she can come visit me soon.”
“Can we ride the ponies next?” Lily asks and Ashton comes out with Posy with a triumphant smile.
“Did it all go well, then?” Calum asks.
“She did such a good job,” Ashton praises and Posy is grinning like he is. “Your mama and daddy are going to be so proud of you, Posy.”
“Way to go Posy!” Calum and Lily clap their hands. “Lils wants to go on the pony rides next.”
“Then let’s go see some ponies!”
Calum and Ashton were able to walk alongside the ponies to make sure the girls didn’t fall off. There was a strap that could be secured around their waists. Calum held onto Lily who kept petting at the pony’s mane and neck as he strutted around the circle.
Ashton was speaking in a southern accent trying to sound like a cowboy and Posy was laughing the whole ride.
After the ponies, they had lunch which consisted of a slice of pizza and some fruit that was sold as a side. Games were next and Posy loved watching Ashton do the hammer one to test his strength. Her peels of laughter encouraged him to keep trying until he finally hit the bell at the top.
He asked Posy which toy she wanted as a prize and chose a purple looking monster with orange teeth and green hair. Lily looked at it apprehensively so Calum towed her along to the water games. She had a good shot with the water guns being aimed at the spinning target as it ascended up the pole, but she didn’t beat the buzzer.
“It’s okay Lils, let’s try this one over here.”
They walk over to the ping pong toss over small fish bowls while Ashton and Posy are throwing balls at glass bottles. Calum buys a bucketful of ping pongs and tries to help Lily with her throws. He loves how dainty she holds the white ball in her hand and she sticks her tongue out in concentration. One of her eyebrows quirks up and she looks so much like Y/N when she does it it throws Calum for a loop.
“Try not to aim for one certain one,” Calum says. “Just throw it and I’m sure you’ll make one in.”
“Okay…” Lily tosses a ball.
She and Calum watch it in slow motion as it hits one bowl then falls into the one next to it. Lily lets out a scream and Calum whoops in excitement as the attendant shouts out “WINNER TO THE LITTLE GIRL IN PINK!”
“I won! Unca Cal I won!” she jumps up and down clutching Calum's fingers.
“Way to go, Lils!” He congratulates and Ashton and Posy come by.
“What’s going on?” Ashton asks just as the attendant comes forward with a bag of water and a small pink fish.
“Lily won a fish,” Calum explains proudly and takes the bag.
“No way! Lily, that’s awesome!”
“I thought she’d like this pink one,” the attendant smiles.
“She loves pink, thank you,” Calum grins and bends down to Lily’s height. “What do you think, Lils?”
“He’s pretty,” she smiles, poking the bag lightly where the small fish is poking in the corner. “Will mama let me keep him?”
“I don’t see why not, you don’t have to walk them.”
“I love him. His name is Bruno.”
“That’s the perfect name,” Calum grins.
“Po, look at my fish.”
Posy scrambles down from Ashton’s arms and presses her nose to the bag.
“He’s tiny!” Posy crinkles her nose.
The rest of the day Calum carried Bruno and Lily would check on him periodically. Posy started to get fussy and they ended the day at the pet store to get some supplies for Bruno. The clerk informed them that Bruno was a male betta fish and about 6 months old.
Calum bought a small tank with gray stones and a lily pad for the fish to sleep on; Lily loved knowing that bit of information that betta fish like to nestle. He bought food and some colorful fake plants.
Ashton stayed with Posy in the car because she fell asleep on the ride to the pet store.
“He won’t...die right away will he?” Calum asks nervously as Lily inspects some more water accessories.
“No, as long as you feed him and change the water periodically he should live for about four years.”
“Four?”
“That’s the average lifespan of betta’s. He’ll be a good starter fish for her if she wants to get another one. When the time comes.”
Calum feels saddened by that because he doesn’t want Lily to be sad when the fish will die. But she’s so enamored by him there’s no way he’ll tell her any of this.
He’ll just tell Luke.
***
“Mama! Look what I got!” Lily runs through the door with Bruno in his bag. She stops in the kitchen where you’re making dinner, Oliver is held against you in the wrap around your body. “I won him! His name is Bruno and Uncle Cal got him a nice home and some food!”
“He did? Wow, he’s so pretty sweetie,” you smile looking at the pink fish.
“What’s with all the noise, is there a circus in town?” Luke asks, coming up from the stairs. “Hey bug, are you still sleepy?” He takes Posy from Ashton’s arms, Posy rests her head in Luke’s neck.
“Look dada! I got a fish!” Lily spins around and shows Luke Bruno.
“Oh wow, and he’s pink! Did you have fun at the circus?”
“Yeah, Po used the potty and won a monster. We had lemonade and pizza and cotton candy. Can Uncle Cal help me with Bruno’s tank?” Lily looks up at you and Luke.
“Absolutely. Thanks for buying everything Uncle Cal,” you smile at him and Lily runs to her room. Luke follows to put Posy down to finish her nap and Ashton crashes on the couch sighing heavily. “Busy day, huh?”
“I don’t know how you and Luke do it,” Calum shakes his head. “And now with three? You’re super human.”
“I’m just a mom.”
“You’re the best mom, lovie,” Luke reappears with a smile. “I take it you two are staying for dinner? Need us to bathe you and tuck you into bed as well?”
“The only one I’ll let bathe me is Y/N,” Ashton sighs, closing his eyes and you laugh loudly.
“Sorry mate, she’s all mine,” Luke gives you a kiss on the cheek and Calum goes to Lily’s room. “Can’t wait to spend the weekend with you, soon.”

Why Modern Cartoons is Not Great as it Used to be in this Decade
As 2010′s draw near to the end and begin a next-generation, cartoons have changed from being a fun episodic adventure with a meaningful message and can get dark sometimes to a story-driven show with deep messages. While cartoons have a great start in early 2010s such as Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gravity Falls, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, however as time passes cartoons are becoming less interesting and not many aren’t talking about it. So what the hell happened with modern cartoons? Let’s get to the bottom of what happened to this decade of cartoons and why isn’t anyone talking about it anymore
The Animation Quality
The quality of the animation of cartoons back in 2000′s were amazing, so many variations of animation styles that look very appealing such as
Samurai Jack
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends
Recess
Proud Family and so many more
But now in modern cartoons, most cartoon shows are using a similar style of animation which many people called it “Calarts style”. Most cartoon shows are using because it’s cheap however it takes away creativity, more detail nor being organic. Look at Infinity Train, compare from the pilot to the release
It looks very boring having most cartoons look the same. Then there’s artistic freedom where creators let them draw whatever they want such as Steven Universe and OK KO. That sounds good but really though it just looks lazy and unprofessional. This is very distracting that most characters go off-model every scene like why Rebecca and Ian-Jones Quarry think it was a good idea!
Great to Below Average
So now let’s talk about the three shows that were once popular Steven Universe, Voltron, and Star vs The Forces of Evil. The trope I’ve been seeing as of late about these shows that it was pretty hype and they deliver on that. All they need to do is conclude it and call it a good cartoon but then crash and burned in later seasons.
Steven Universe didn’t get popular until “Jailbreak” and that was when everyone was watching it. It had character development, an interesting world of gems, a gorgeous background and has one of the best soundtracks. This isn’t surprising because the creator is the same person who wrote Marceline episodes in Adventure Time which was Rebecca Sugar that created the series. Then season 4 and season 5 happened which the show drop in quality like mostly the show prefer showing filler which makes the plot go too fast and made arcs underwhelming, crystals gems and Lapis Lazuli and Peridot aren’t being used that much in the show and having each villain being beaten by simply talking to them. While there is Steven Universe Future but that hasn’t gotten interesting in my opinion.
Star vs The Forces of Evil is a show used to be interesting for the two seasons and “Battle for Mewni” arc but then shipping drama got out of hand and that resulted to fell from grace
Then there’s Voltron and we all how that turned out for the last two seasons
What these three have in common that they set up this interesting premise and world in the first few seasons but they all went downhill. Awful character writing, insane plot twist, and terrible pacing. I did wish that those shows would get better like how Adventure Time and Regular Show had one bad season but after that, they both got better but they didn’t and it went from being great to disappointingly average.
Comedy Over Messages
Now that’s got the most hype shows, let’s talk about shows that not many people talk about because the premise and world aren’t engaging enough to watch and which they are We Bare Bears, Craig in the Creek, Clarence, OK KO, and The Loud House. While I’m not saying they aren’t bad but it is just not interesting to watch, it's just that it’s too tame and too comedic. The main issue I have it doesn’t really teach viewers like they used to anymore
OK KO was about to talk about gun violence but they turn it into a comedy. In “Let’s Not Be Skeletons” people overuse the gun and resulting everyone to turn skeletons and KO tries to stop it but fails. By the end of the episode, it was a dream and calls Congress to stop it from happening. I really hate how writers of this episode of making a serious issue turn into comedy and that’s a pretty awful way of doing it.
Look at Static Shock and Fat Albert, instead of making Gun Violence a joke, they talk about how serious it is by having someone shot and that devastated the characters a lot
Then there's Hey Arnold, it really dives into serious issues such as
“Pigeon Man” showcases that some people are meant to be with other people while others like Pigeon Man are just different and can’t be with other people.
“Helga on the Couch” showcases Helga's anger issues and those issues manifest because her family ignores her because of her sister. Never truly cares for like no makes her lunch for school and no one brought her to school when she was a young girl. The only person that cares for was Arnold.
Then there’s my personal favorite, “Arnold Christmas”. Mr. Hyunh is always sad at Christmas and this episode revealed that he had a daughter and all he wanted was to see her grow up but there was a war coming near his village. In order to do so, he had to give her up so she can have a better life. It took 20 years to get out of the country and he almost gave up hope to find her until Helga helped Arnold to search for her and be reunited with her father.
Modern cartoons don’t show those kinds of messages anymore and there’s something worse than that and I hate how cartoon shows keep doing this.
Today’s Villains
I” ve been seeing a lot lately that the main antagonist isn't handled well in cartoons as of lately. Most villains have been getting redeemed lately and not paying their crimes. While show creatures try to make them sympathetic and the victim however it doesn’t excuse them for their crimes.
White Diamond who caused multiple mass genocide on worlds, brainwash any gem that stands in her way and shatter gems gets easily defeated by simply getting talk to and just not gonna do it anymore because Steven said so.
Mina Loveberry and her Mewni soldiers wanted to destroy monsters. When her and her army magic depleted, she just goes in the wilderness and no one stopped her.
Moon Butterfly helped Mina create her soldiers so she can retake the throne from Ecipsa. Instead of having the monsters and her surrendering the throne that she was attending to do, however, her plan backfired when Mewni Soldiers and Mina wanted to kill all the monsters. Why didn’t Moon saw that coming, they were clearly racist against them. Then by the end of the show, she never once apologized for what she has done.
Starlight Glimmer created a cult that no one has cutie marks until the mane six defeated her in “Cutie Map” She returns and her revenge on Twilight by going back in time and making sure Rainbow Dash doesn’t perform the Sonic Rainboom. After multiple going to multiple timelines, she finally catches up to her and then her tragic backstory been revealed and it was very disappointing. The reason she caused all of this because her friend moved away and that’s it. That’s not all, instead of her facing her crimes like most villains such as Tirek or Queen Chrysalis, she gets off the hook and she became friends with Twilight in a matter of minutes
A good example of a good antagonist is Aku from Samurai Jack. When he first appeared in the show, he’s pure evil, destroying anything that stood in his way and ruling over the weak but as the show progresses, the serious villain became more comedic villain but that doesn’t mean he’s a silly character, he’s far from that. He’s still all-powerful and should be taken seriously. This is what I want from a villain. He’s powerful, he’s truly evil and has a personality.
Villains can be sympathetic and relatable however shouldn’t be forgiven so easily. When a character crosses the line by taking multiple innocent lives should never be redeemed, even if they have a sad backstory
Cartoons lately have become less popular in this past decade, the glaring problems about cartoons are its animation, comedy over messages, messy plots, and terrible villain. People will only talk about cartoons from the late ’80s to 2012. I’m afraid that this day of age that it isn’t appealing anymore than in previous years. The only animation that people will talk about is anime shows which I can’t lie, is far superior to cartoons as of now. I feel that the only way it can make it back on top is it needs something like Adventure Time or Gravity Falls moment that reinvent it more relevant and view to modern audiences. I really do like to watch cartoon shows for animation, message, and characters but I keep seeing issues in modern cartoons and I hope that it will change in the future.
