Introducing My Characters!

Thanks so much to everyone that voted in the naming polls! I am excited to show you all the final results and a little more about them.

These characters are for my personal WIP novel "Big Queer Liminal Train Trip"

It's about four queer arts students in New York who live on the West coast, and are taking a train back to their families for the summer. They're taking the train for some adventure! (and definitely not cause they want to prolong the time til they're back home).

They all have their own motivations and needs and wants related to family, career, themselves, and each other. But the train itself also has it's own needs and wants. And they're about to find out what those are.

I would classify it as Adult Paranormal/Science fiction.

Now, On to the main characters!:

This is Elias!

He/him, trans man, gay, aromantic , allosexual. His major is Actor/Singer. Elias is like a brother to everyone, platonic best friend love with Avi especially. He calls Margo "Mango", and Raine and Elias joke like siblings, play jokes on one another. Elias has a family that accepts him for who he is, but not "all the way" (for example, his mom saying stuff like, "Why do you need to go on hormones to be yourself").

This is Raine!

They/them, Agender, queer, allosexual and alloromantic.

Raine's Major is Music Composition, and they play the Violin. Their major stresses them out and all their friends insist they change it but they refuse (people pleaser for their parents).

Raine and Avi have had a crush on one another before, and almost kissed but then it was awkward and they didn’t so they just went their separate ways to dorms. Meanwhile now, Raine and Margo are in a romantic relationship eventually/getting there.

This is Avi!

Ze/zir, Bigender, queer, aromantic, allosexual.

Avi is the Meme lord of the group. It suits zir as zir Major is Activism Art. Ze does large scale projects as well as election memes, skits, and much more. Ze is looked up to as a meme saint by the rest of the group. Ze has a family that doesn't understand them and their humor one bit, however. Margo and Avi spend a lot of time together engaging in their shared interests like that they’re both in an art related major.

This is Margo!

She/They, genderfluid, Demi-girl, Asexual, Panromantic (changed from alloromantic to specify their romantic attraction).

Margo's Major is Digital Artist! She has been drawing since they were a little kid, and they have a talent for drawing backgrounds and details that her peers are jealous of. They couldn't be more happy with their major, but her family disagrees. Saying she's "Wasting their money" on art school. You mean the government's money from the scholarships she won? While simultaneously letting them go to art school? Kinda hypocritical there.

Anyway, her favorite things to do are take commissions from their friends, and they give them MANY. Though try as Elias might to get her to draw porn (it's where the money maker is, he says), that's just not her jam.

I hope you all enjoyed the descriptions! I'll be sharing more about them as time goes on and I flesh out the story and their relationships!

Least favorite canon thing about this character? i wish they would drop the allison/luther relationship, obviously. i almost immediately stopped reading the comics when i realized it started with a rumor to begin with. i generally like everything about his character, flaws and alls, but that plot point really kills me for obvious reasons. i used to at least be able to enjoy their friendship but season 3 really killed that.

5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them? my luther playlist is so long, and i made an edit once upon a time with a few of my favorites, but false confidence by noah kahan is one i usually think of first!

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise? i could go on and on, but i'll try to only list a few. the biggest one for me is the use of any ableist nicknames. calling him a monkey man, especially, really bugs me considering his body dysmorphia + the fact that the body alteration was done without his consent. the "he won't shut up about the moon" memes, etc don't make any sense to me...? he was literally sent to, basically, solitary confinement on the moon for 4+ years (in which he was already depressed + self harming before the first year was even up, as we see in season 3) because his abuser was scared he was finally going to leave and he needed to keep his weapon handy. i also hate the way people associate his lack of social awareness with "being stupid."

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character? i have a lot but i'll name a few off the top of my head: we know that luther wrote poems about comets, but i've always liked the idea of him writing poems for his siblings while he was on the moon, too, as a way to process being away from them, especially as his feelings of resentment for them leaving eventually turn into longing to be with them. i also like the idea that his music collection is so big because he got really into music once his family left, because he was so used to the constant background music of viktor playing his violin that he needed something to fill the silence (+ for many other reasons too, obviously).

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter? bringing my luther + lila agenda here because there are so many direct parallels between them that after 2x10, when he told her "love shouldn't have to hurt this much," i was certain they were going to capitalize on those parallels afterwards, but we didn't really get any. i don't think their personalities necessarily mesh, but luther knows all about acting as your abuser's weapon and trying to come to terms with what that relationship really was. i was also such a fan of his relationship with elliot 😌

1. Are you named after anyone?

Not that I am aware of. It’s actually uncommon (or even disrespectful, if named after an elderly family member) in our culture to name children after other people so I would be surprised if I was named after anyone.

2. When was the last time you cried?

This is a very good question, I don’t actually know. When you get to your mid-20s I guess you can get fairly easily-triggered emotionally, whether it be a distant but sweet memory that reminds you of good times that will never come back, or a dire realisation of things you will almost never achieve, or even a simple scene from a TV show with that right cue of music (Season 2 last episode of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel when the camera cut to Susie carefully admiring her new blazer whilst Lenny’s “All Alone” moody violin interlude playing in the background being an example) that can send me into a tearful mood.

3. Do you have kids?

No, but I am definitely not against the idea of having kids, unlike what most of my acquaintances would assume of me. Deep down I am a family-person, but in my home country it is still currently illegal for a gay man such as I to adopt kids that is not biologically related to me (I’ll take the dumbest piece of legislation for $500, Alex).

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

I am not good with sarcasm at all, let it be online or in person. To be fair, I don’t think I have used sarcasm if at all in real life, but I don’t find it difficult to detect a sarcastic remark at all. Guess when you’re surrounded by enough witty (but kind nevertheless) people you don’t feel the need to contribute any more sarcasm. (This is not sarcasm, if you’re wondering)

5. What sports do you play/have you played?

Not a very sporty person myself. I used to play table tennis with my dad when I was a kid, and then almost 2 decades later at my uni’s student centre. It was so much harder when I was kiddo and I don’t know why. Probably because I hadn’t learned physics yet.

Nowadays I barely do any sports (unless you count jogging), but I’d like to play tennis if my legs aren’t so sore after a day’s shift. Oh, and if I have someone to play with me. I’ll then buy a racquet.

6. What’s the first thing you notice about other people?

The way their facial feature move to produce a warm, heartfelt smile. Also, their fascinating shades of eye colours.

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

Movies with unexpected endings, preferably unhappy ones. I guess I’m just fed up with conventional, commercialised happy endings to the point where I just wish things could be a bit more down-to-earth and realistic. I prefer fictions that I could relate to on a personal level, and that’s probably why I’ve not seen any good movies/TV shows for a while. That being said, I adore Netflix’s mini-series Maid.

8. Any special talents?

Imitating accents, (and according to my acquaintances and relatives) melodious, multitasking, memorising useless things like what happened years ago on a special occasion, listening to the same song/music on loop and not getting sick of them for 1 year.

9. Where were you born?

Taiwan, a beautiful subtropical island polluted by fugly buildings.

10. What are your hobbies?

Playing the guitar, modding Skyrim/Fallout 4 to my own liking, learning languages, baking. Oh, and browsing memes.

11. Do you have any pets?

I would love to adopt a dog from the local shelter if I’m not moving so frequently between countries. I’ve never really had a pet before, and I’m so jealous of people who get to grow up with one.

12. How tall are you?

186cm (~ 6 feet 1)

13. Fave subject in school?

Chemistry (my fave), Biology, Geography, English (the only subject at school I could pass with flying colours without studying at all, so I like it)

14. Dream job?

Not any specific occupation, but rather a concept: An ideal job for me would be the one where I get to utilise the knowledge I gained from formal education, enriched by real-life experiences/lessons, guided by self-reflection and personal growth, that allows me to give back to the community from which I benefited, and to motivate people to improve themselves physically and mentally.

Dark, dark brown

Wanna know about Hinanami, Hinazumi & HiNatsumi Fankids... How many are there?

I'll preface these by saying that I'm not going to number how many kids each girl has with Hajime. :P It's not out of laziness - honestly, I just like how Vergil does it in leaving the "numbers" up to the imagination. Plus, people have their own ideas about how many kids Makoto or Hajime would or should have, so in a way, this method can make quite a few people happy.

... Well, unless you think (ex., Hinanami) should have just one kid, and I give them multiple kids... Then you're outta luck. But, I'll try to think these through.

I'mma weak man. These kids will be heavily based off characters from other series - gives me the chance to "show them off" since I don't have sprites. I'll rattle off two of Hinanami's kids. Again, there could be more, but I'll leave that up to the imagination for now.

I went with Mari for this first one. Mari Hinata~... Mari means "truth; reason". I'm sure you all know about the "That's Wrong!" memes from Goodbye Despair, and truth/reason is pretty important for Hajime and Chiaki both. :3 Her hair color probably takes after her mom's, but Mari grows her hair out more like this. She's got her dad's face and/or his eyes. Her smiles are some combination of her parents' smiles. Mari's a bright, mature young girl that studies and practices hard, but also likes having fun with her friends and especially her little brother. ... Oh, she loves little brother. Very, very much. (❋•‿•❋) Mari enjoys hosting picnics with her brother and friends, and while she's open to taking part in video game multiplayer tournaments whenever their friends get into it, she's not an avid gamer like her mother. Aside from the occasional pranks, she normally has more mature tastes and hobbies. I guess you could say she inherited Hajime's determination and tenacity, but Chiaki's... concept of "natural talent". As such, she's a bit of a perfectionist. Hajime and Chiaki don't hold her to standards like that, they'd rather Mari just be happy - but Mari really wants to make her family proud, bring home only the very best grades, be the best in sports, play perfectly in music, bake the very best cookies, etc... Usually she can keep a lid on her emotions and not go too crazy with her perfectionism, but Mari is pretty passionate about it. After all, she's not making the effort for herself, she's doing it for her loved ones, to give them the best experience in everything~ She's a hard little worker, yes she is~ (❋•‿•❋)

This next one (Sunny, in Omori canon) is Mari's little brother. Nikko, which means "sunshine." His hair color is more like his dad's, and he's got softer facial features like his mother, and perhaps her eyes, too. Nikko definitely inherited the more reserved parts of Hajime and Chiaki's personalities - he doesn't have much energy, gets tuckered out easily, but he's got a vivid imagination. He loves to draw, read manga, play video games, and hang out with his friends and especially his big sister. Unfortunately, he inherited a lot of Hajime's self-esteem issues. Basically, he struggles with a lot of things and has a tendency to give up if he becomes too dissatisfied; also, he compares himself with others too much, and has a habit of putting Mari up on this pedestal that he'll never reach. As they get older and Mari starts prepping for college in high school, Nikko really starts missing her company, and that's why he takes up the violin... so that he can hopefully spend time with her in duet practice, but Mari being who she is and holding him to the same grueling standards as her... the practice does put a strain on their relationship.

Hinazumi probably has at least a couple kids like Hinanami, but for right now I'll name just the one. :P

This boy's name is Takato (Omori canon name: Hero). Mahiru and Hajime went for that name because the Kanji used means "treasure" or "precious thing." Takato definitely takes after his dad in his hair, his face, and his height. Though he does have his mom's eyes. Kinda like Mari, Takato is a mature kid that excels because he works and practices hard. Because some of his friends and half-siblings are reckless, he's developed a knack for First-Aid and taking care of others... though his main passion resides in cooking. Together, he and Mari are kinda like the stand-in parents for the siblings and half-siblings whenever the adults aren't around. There's been lots of good times, but there's also been a fair amount of fights and coverups (like when something gets broken in the house). Takato is often the mediator (or tries to be) while Mari is the "inspiration", or the leader that brings everyone together.

Similar to Hinazumi above, I'm gonna just list the one kid for now. There are probably a couple kids for Hinazuryu, though.

This girl's name is Izumi (Omori canon name: Aubrey), which means "spring" or "fountain." Natsumi felt like going for that name out of sentimentality for the place she, Hajime, and Chiaki used to meet up to play video games at Hope's Peak. Izumi's hair color is more like her dad's, grows it out longer than Natsumi's, but she takes after her mom a lot more in face, eyes, and attitude. Izumi's not a yakuza or anything, but she is a tough girl that doesn't take crap from others~ But she also has a vulnerable side, and confides in Nikko a lot while sitting on swings. Izumi's favorite possession is her baseball bat, which she uses for more than just softball; though she also has a fondness for stuffed animals and... bunnies. ... Yes, she has a pet bunny named "Bun-Bun." Don't you judge her! (❋•‿•❋) Izumi's protective of her family and friends, though she does take it personally if you hurt her, emotionally or otherwise. She's not the sharpest tool in the shed on the academic side of things, but that's okay. To her, there's more important stuff than school stuff - although she does idolize Mari a lot because of how smart and kind she is. (❋•‿•❋)

9. favorite scent and why - baking challah. nostalgia, mostly, but also who doesn't love the smell of fresh bread?

14. any cleaning or organizing life hacks? - color code stuff! in addition to being fun it also makes it easier to visually distinguish two similar or identical looking things from each other at a glance. this is how i keep the different containers of flour straight in the pantry at home (red dot for AP, blue dot for bread), and i used to use little removable colored tabs to mark cues and instrument/patch changes in my music when i played pit for musicals.

15. tell a joke - a man walks into a pet store and sees three parrots on for sale, with prices marked $10,000, $20,000, and $50,000. he asks the pet store owner what's so special about these parrots that make them worth so much.

"these aren't just any parrots," the store owner explains excitedly. he points out the $10,000 parrot and says, "this one can sing all the arias of verdi, note for note, with perfect pitch, and he sounds even better than pavarotti."

"wow!" the man says, astonished. "what does the $20,000 parrot do?"

"you won't believe this," the owner answers. "this parrot can actually play the violin, and he's mastered all the caprices of paganini!"

"that's incredible!" the man exclaims. "what does the $50,000 parrot do?"

"well," the owner says. "so far as i can tell, he doesn't do anything, but the other two call him 'maestro.'"

I. what do they smell like at their freshest? (and/or after a tenday. your choice)

Probably pine, you can actually make soap out of pine tar and remember the inspiration for him is "Devil Went Down to Georgia" and pine trees are super common in Georgia...don't ask about after a day of fighting or working on the farm you don't wanna know.

II. what would their blood taste like to vampires?

Either incredibly sweet, or like whiskey. Depends on if he's had access to sweet tea lol.

III. how would they kiss their LI?

Depends. Could be just a cute little peck on the cheek all the way up to the we might die in this next fight so let's make out like our lives depend on it. Without any constraints I think he'd just like a long slow kiss.

IV. how do they sleep with their LI (what position, does one steal the blankets, is one too hot/cold, etc)?

I think this is going to vary depending on the love interest. But I imagine Johnny runs a bit hot so he probably doesn't like too much cover, but he likes to cuddle so...good luck.

V. what does their tent area look like? where do they prefer to pitch their tent (next to water, covered on three sides, etc)?

He'd have a very simple tent, he's not a fancy guy. Probably a stool or a rug to sit on. His violin and a bottle of whatever he's drinking. He would probably prefer under a tree or by the water. Later it will be whichever spot is closest to the companion he's the most interested in.

VI. if they had a set of dnd dice, what would they look like?

Ah...blue? He likes blue.

VII. do they collect anything (gems, bottles, keys, etc)?

Instruments, hats, boots, animals and booze.

VIII. if either, are they part of the astarion/gale book club (magic & literature) or the wyll/shadowheart book club (trashy romance novels)?

This man can't read. He's either in the animal loving or whittling corner with Halsin or having three am thoughts with Karlach.

IX. if they had to be put in a “get along shirt” with a companion, who would it be?

Either Minthara or Astarion. He legitimately tries to get Astarion to like him, but is always putting his foot in his mouth. Minthy just scares him.

X. do they prefer speak with dead or speak with animals?

Speak with animals 100%.

XI. what are their thoughts on clowns?

Johnny likes clowns...up until Dribbles.

XII. their companions are gossiping about them behind their back! who is it and what are they saying?

Could be anyone. Complaining about his accent, phrases they don't understand, his music and when he's opted to practice, bringing in another stray, bad decisions, his intelligence, and maybe an instance or two where he failed persuasion or performance rolls.

XIII. what makes them laugh? what does their laugh sound like?

It's pretty easy to make Johnny laugh. It's a pretty warm laugh, but also a little goofy, the kind that makes you want to laugh too. He will also do the classic slap his knee and you'll probably hear "Oh/now that's funny!"

XIV. do they have any inside jokes among their companions?

Probably the fact that only Wyll and Halsin know when Johnny says "Bless your heart" that's not a good thing. Maybe he might have a silly one with Karlach.

Ok this is a correct me if I'm wrong, but I think one companion has a line that's like "They could argue in an empty room." that's a southern phrase and Johnny would agree with them

XV. what’s the description of their camp clothes in the inventory menu?

Johnny's simple sleepwear, These well-worn clothes have been repaired several times, but some fixes are coming undone. As if whoever was repairing hasn't been able to do so in some time.

WHY SOMEONE MIGHT LOVE THEM: Her sense of humor and loyalty make her kinda cute. She’s very patient and is the type of person to drag you back home to be tucked in bed, or sit by the toilet with you if you got drunk out of your wits. She isn't the most confident flirt, so if she starts to flirt and it is reciprocated she will get very flustered. 

WHY SOMEONE MIGHT HATE THEM: She is a very good liar and she lives a life held up by many webs of lies. Halia does not take joy out of it, but unless you already know about her age, powers, or past don’t expect the truth until you’ve earned it.

HOW THEY CHANGE: After living through war after war and losing loved ones repeatedly Halia becomes better at letting go and living out of other people's shadow. After Leon Reid's death in 1929, after the stock market crash, she learns not to believe in the sunken cost fallacy (i.e. just because someone has been in your life forever, doesn't mean you should continue with toxic relationships of any sort). She eventually learns how to make friends genuinely without trauma bonding, or becoming co-dependent.

Phoenix Wright:

Okay, we all know he cant play piano, though I truly believe he would learn how to play piano later in life just for the irony     

Miles Edgeworth:

Miles was a bit harder to decide but honestly, I think he would play the cello    

I feel like von-karma would have made Franziska play the violin and edgeworth play the cello

Those Europeans and their orchestras

Also von-karma probably has a bonfire of violas (they are not of worth to him and therefore will burn) (no offence viola players, yall get too much hate)

Maya Fey:

Im not fully sure with maya, with the culture and village she was raised in she’d probably play some form of traditional Japanese instrument however I don’t know enough about any to pick one

I do however know that she would probably bug phoenix for either a kazoo or an otomatone (or both)

I’m assigning a classical music piece to the characters, with the reason as to why I think it fits them! Because I love both, Mystic Messenger AND classical music!! haha!

Saeyoung Choi / 707

Okay. This one is a bit complicated and I actually have two pieces in mind for him. One reflecting his playfulness and one reflecting his sadness. Saeyoung has gone through so, so much in his life. He tries to hide it all away behind a mask. On the outside he is playful, fun, a jester. Yet on the inside he is hurting, longing for just someone to reach out and take his hand. Someone who can accept him, with all of his baggage. And he has found that someone through you. Everyday he is greatful for you. He loves you so...

Mozart - Lacrimosa (specifically the version conducted by Bernstein)

For those of you who know anything about Mozart at all, you’ll know he was a jokster. Honestly in this day and age, he’d most definitely be making memes left and right. Sadly, towards the end of his life, he took a down spiral. Everyone left him, he lived in poverty, feeling alone. This is also the time when he fell ill and started writing his own requiem (mass for the dead/funeral music basically). In this piece, you can truly hear the hurt, fear, sadness... depression. Much like you can see Saeyoungs depression once you start to peel away the layers.

Mozart - Violin Concerto no 5 in A Major

This piece is so incredibly Mozart-esque, filled with arpeggios, fun runs, instruments calling out for each other and responding to each other. It’s light, it’s playful, it makes your heart melt like a warm spring morning.

Saeran Choi / Ray

Much like his twin, Saeran holds a deep sadness inside his heart. Even in the GE of his route. He has seen so much, gone through so much torture. From emotional manipulation to physical abuse, he has seen it all. He is starting to work through it, thanks to you and your support. You are his light that brings him life, he loves you more than anything in the whole world. but I do still think that an emotionally heavy piece fits him best, thus I assign him

Chopin - Nocturne Op. 48 No. 1

Once you start listening to this piece, it is clear what Chopin tried to tell us. This piano piece is absolutely beautiful, one that touches your heart deeply. It’s heavy, it’s sad, it’s cloudy. It’s... Saeran.

He is a complicated man. One who’s not easy to understand. He barely knows how to control his emotions, so he doesn’t let them happen at all. Because once he does, it’s so overwhelming he can barely contain himself. That is until you come along. You, the person who was able to help him start untangling the threads in his head. You, the person who really understands him and sees below the surface of the rich, cold business man. You, the person he loves so, so much, more than words will ever be able to describe. Which is why I assign him

Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto In D Major

God, I could gush about this concerto for hours on end. Tchaikovsky fell in love with a violinist named Kotek. Kotek had the idea that they write a violin concerto together, and so they did. And god... this concert is SO ROMANTIC, its boarding on cheesy. Every note perfectly placed, it’s exciting, longing, full of love! A love so comforting, it can not be described with words alone

Zen / Hyun Ryu

God this man is passionate! Passionate about everything he does. Once he sets his mind on something, he will put his whole being into it. His heart is full of emotions that are just waiting to get out! His chest nearly bursts open every time he even hears your voice, god he is in love with you. And thanks to you, he has found courage in opening himself up more. Thanks to you he became an even better version of himself.

Monti - Czardas

GOD this piece. It’s passionate, it’s sexy, it’s fast! Full of fire, waiting to embrace you. It makes you want to dance and spin around, preferably with a person you love. This is Zens beast breaking free. Haha

Yoosung Kim

I always see Yoosung as very delicate. He is still very young and still learning new things about himself, yet he already had to go through so much. He is so happy that he has finally found someone who understands him and he can confide in. Someone who doesn’t just see him as that cute, somewhat naive college boy, but someone who sees him as... him. The whole package, the cuteness, the manliness, the intelligence, his complicated feelings. You’re his first and also his last love and every day he will show you just how much he loves you.

Saint-Seans - Carnival Of The Animals, The Swan

This piece sounds like... the way Yoosung looks at you in the morning, when you wake up in his arms. Warm and soft like a sunday morning, yet somehwat somber. It’s comforting and truly fills my heart. Absolutely wonderful.

Jaehee Kang

At first, she seems like a somewhat robot-like business woman. But god, she is so much more. Once you get to know her and once she feels comfortable opening up to you, you can see who she truly is. She is so strong, passionate about the things she loves. Someone you can look up to, but also someone who will come to you for advice. You bring her comfort during the times she feels her deep routed anxiety come to the surface. You tell her to take a break, once you notice she’s starting to overwork herself again. She is truly thankful to have found someone like you in her life.

Debussy - Rêverie

This piece makes me feel like, waking up in the morning to the smell of freshly brewed coffee. As you make your way to the kitchen to find your girlfriend, still in her Pyjamas, waiting for you with the biggest smile. Is this a dream? It does kind of feel like one, so comforting.

It has been a while, since I have played his route and after ending, so forgive me if this may not be 100% accurate.

V holds a deep sadness within him, one he has trouble working through as he thinks other people are more important than his health. He has gone through so, so much and he is so glad he found someone like you. Someone who was able to forgive him even after he entrusted you with his secrets and his past actions. He is so glad that he has found someone who accepts him, who loves him for him, without trying to change him. He is so glad that he has found you.

Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata, 1st Movement

God, this piece always makes me emotional. I recommend listening to the whole thing, not just the first movement, as I feel like the progression really completes it. The first movement is slow, sad, depressing. Every single note is filled with emotion to the max. It’s just so freaking good, always helps me get out a good cry. It feels a lot like... missing an old friend or a past life.
